The Malaysian Houses of Parliament complex consists of a 3-story main building where the House of Representatives meets and a 17-story tower that houses the Senate. The complex was designed by British architect William Ivor Shipley and built in 1963. Shipley designed the complex using a 20-foot-by-20-foot grid system for the columns that allowed for modular construction. The complex incorporates elements of Malaysian modernism in its architectural style with influences from traditional Malay architecture.
