This research aims to document the challenges of conserving the heritage building The Blue Mansion through graphics, text, interviews and literature review. The research seeks to address the lack of documentation about the architectural aspects of The Blue Mansion and the challenges of conserving its identity over time. Key issues to be examined include the pressing issues faced during conservation work, approaches taken to address these issues, and ensuring the building's identity is recognized and appreciated in the future.

Problem Statement:
The current documentation of The Blue Mansion is mainly about the owner but not the
building. Hence, the research emphasizes on the architectural aspects.
The lack of historical architectural findings that reflects the essence of The Blue Mansion in
relation to the challenges for conserving the Chinese culture and tradition that leads to the lack
of understanding and underappreciation towards the architectural details.
Lack of documentation of The Blue Mansion affects the conservation of the identity in a long
run. This research is carried out to record the details to prevent possible loss of originality.
Research Questions:
1. How graphics and text documentation of The Blue Mansion can assists in giving information
for documentation?
2. What were the most pressing issues faced by The Blue Mansion during conservation work?
3. What had been the responses or approaches to solve the above issues?
4. What are the critical theories and principles applied to the heritage conservation of The Blue
Mansion?
5. How responsible parties can assure that the identity of this building can be recognized and
appreciated by the societies of today and tomorrow?
Summary
This research is to document the challenges and development of conservation work of a
heritage building in a developing city. Documentation of the findings about The Blue Mansion’s
heritage conservation are through graphics, text, interviews and literature review to enhance
the knowledge and interest towards Asian Architecture.
