Pudu Wet Market is a busy wet market located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It has operated since the 1970s and remains an important part of the local community, providing fresh produce and prepared foods. The indoor market has narrow walkways between stalls selling a variety of meat, seafood, produce and prepared snacks and meals. It attracts many local shoppers each day but also foreign visitors interested in the bustling atmosphere and cultural experience of a traditional Asian wet market.

The findings from this Assignment 1 on will be taken forward to analyze the third city, Kuala Lumpur, in the Assignment 2. The students are required to document the spatial form of the city to note the key spatial experience that is driven by the urban form and content. The objectives are: a) to characterize the urban forms through Serial Vision; b) to establish the relationships and roles of the three urban design elements and c) to identify DISTINCTIVE aspects or patterns in their layout offering to the characteristics of a ‘colonial city’. The students will be given with basic urban study techniques such as figure/ground, serial vision, collage city, space syntax, etc. Therefore the students are required to analyze and apply those techniques in order to evaluate the spatial (tangible) and/or social (intangible) patterns in the city. You are required to a) illustrate the urban distinctive character by formulating your own theory of understanding, b) present the tales of your wishes and c) evaluate through the comparison of three cities. The submission format will be online and digital reports.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
120 years ago, a village situated on where the former Pudu jail has been. In the year of 1884, when Frank A Swettenham started to develop the city of Kuala Lumpur, he persuaded the 2 merchants from Pudu to involve in brick-manufacturing, which was the cause of the hustle and bustle in Pudu Village during that time.
However, in 1891, the government of Selangor state set up a brick-manufacturing factory. This caused the shift of Kuala Lumpur’s brick-making industry to Selangor. The British government then built a prison, named as Pudu Prison. It has since become the landmark of Pudu.
During the early 19’s, the population at Petaling Street had grown too large for the street. To prevent communicative disease from spreading, the British government encourage the landlord to build houses and to widen the roads. Thus, the Pudu road had been upgraded to the main road of KL, and more development followed. With the development of the basic facilities, the main street of Pudu which started from 1890 had slowly become an important place in KL.
Among all the streets, the earliest was the main street located along Pudu Road and near to Pudu Market. In 1985, there were 30 shophouses with history of more than 150 years.
To further develop Pudu, the government also built a road to connect the southern part of Petaling Street to the Pudu Fire Department, linking it up to Loke Yew Road, and finally arriving at the junction in front of Pudu Market.
This place bears witness to the course of time and changes that took place along the years, including the British-governed era, 2nd World War, independence of Malaysia, and the May 13th incident. It had recorded the history of Nanyang Chinese that came to here and the hardship that the people went through when they were developing Kuala Lumpur.
As the years pass by along with all the advances in the society, it seems that it does not received better maintenance and development compared to before.
Even worse, some of the historical buildings around pudu such as the wall of Pudu Jail, Kim Wah, Xin Guang, Dai Hua cinema had been torn down or are facing the same fate soon.
When you first walk into the pudu wet market, u will see a lot of activities happening under the colorful canopies. Interactions between people, passive contact, necessary activities
So what are these activities? Blaring cries from vendors , bargaining from customers, footsteps on slimy floors from passerbys. All these activities added up to make pudu wet market an interesting place
