This document discusses seismic pounding between adjacent buildings. It defines seismic pounding as the collision of adjacent structures during earthquakes when there is insufficient separation between them. Minimum required separation distances are specified by building codes to prevent pounding, but these distances are sometimes not possible in dense urban areas. Pounding can cause structural and non-structural damage. The document then examines different cases of pounding that can occur between buildings of equal height, different heights, aligned/misaligned floor levels, and with similar/different dynamic properties. It also discusses factors that affect pounding and common failures like floor-to-column impacts. The goal is to understand pounding consequences and promote adequate separation or retrofitting to mitigate impacts.
In the present report, at present scenario many buildings are asymmetric in elevation based on the
distribution of mass and stiffness along each storey throughout the height of the building. Most recent
earthquakes have shown that the irregular distribution of mass, stiffness and strengths may cause serious damage
in structural systems. This project performance of the torsionally balanced and torsionally unbalanced buildings
also called as symmetric and asymmetric buildings by subjecting to response-spectrum analysis. The buildings
have un-symmetrical distribution of vertical irregularinstorey’s. In this project the effort is made to study the
effect of eccentricity between centre of mass (CM) and centre of stiffness (CR) on the performance of the
buildings. Three buildings (G+3), (G+6) & (G+9) models are considered for study, which are constructed on
medium soil in seismic zone II of India (as per IS:1893-2002), one symmetric and asymmetric in vertical
irregular distribution. The performance of a multi-storey framed building during sturdy earthquake motions
depends on the distribution of mass, stiffness, and strength in both the horizontal and vertical planes of the
building. In some cases, these weaknesses may be produced by discontinuities in stiffness, strength or mass
between adjoining storeys. Such discontinuities between storeys are often allied with sudden variations in the
frame geometry along the height.

The design of civilian or commercial buildings to withstand the effects of a terrorist blast is unlike the design of military installations or the design of embassy buildings. The objectives of the “Structural Engineering Guidelines” for the Design of New Embassy Buildings are to prevent heavy damage to components and structural collapse. Adherence to the provisions of the guidelines will minimize injuries and loss of life and facilitate the evacuation and rescue of survivors. The blast-protection objective of any commercial or public building must be similar to those of embassy structures, that is to prevent structural collapse, to save lives, and to evacuate victims.
Architectural And Structural Design Of Blast Resistant Buildings - REPORTPaul Jomy
The objective of this study is to shed light on blast resistant building theories, the enhancement of building security against the effect of explosives in both architectural and structural design process and the design techniques that should be carried out. Firstly, explosives and explosion type have been explained briefly. In addition, the general aspects of explosion process have been presented to clarify the effect of explosives on buildings. To have a better understanding of explosives and characteristics of explosions will enable us to make blast resistant building design much more efficiently. Essential techniques for increasing the capacity of a building to provide protection against explosive effects is discussed both with an architectural and structural approach.

Abstract
From past earthquakes it is proved that many of structure are totally or partially damaged due to earthquake. So, it is necessary to determine seismic responses of such buildings. There are different techniques of seismic analysis of structure. Time history analysis is one of the important techniques for structural seismic analysis generally the evaluated structural response is non-linear in nature. For such type of analysis, a representative earthquake time history is required. In this project work seismic analysis of RCC buildings with mass irregularity at different floor level are carried out. Here for analysis different time histories have been used. This paper highlights the effect of mass irregularity on different floor in RCC buildings with time history and analysis is done by using ETABS software.

Parametric study on an industrial structure for various dynamic loadseSAT Journals
Abstract
Industrial machinery produce vibrations during its operation. Vibrations are transmitted to structure. However, an industrial structure is designed for these dynamic effects. But there are some dynamic effects which still to be considered. Those are, wind, earth quake and accidental blast loads. Though these loads are not frequent, but its occasional appearance will destroy the structure. An industry with thousands of labours, if gets these occasional dynamic effect, then it might result in much fatal. Therefore an industrial structure must be designed in such a way, that it resists the force created by these dynamic effects and dissipates in a better manner. This study is a numerical analysis of an industrial structure, subjected to wind, earthquake and blast load. The results are compared for severity, and the remedial measures shall be discussed. By adopting the remedial measures, the analysis shall be performed again and the effects will be compared with the earlier results of a normal structure. Drafting software Auto CAD is used for modelling the structure and SAP 2000 analysis software will be used for dynamic analysis. The purpose of this research project work is to study and understand the behavior of structure for dynamic loadings.

Effect of seismic pounding between adjacent buildings and mitigation measureseSAT Journals
Abstract During earthquakes the buildings closely spaced have a chance of pounding on the adjacent building block. In present day scenario buildings are constructed very close each other in urban areas for the complete usage of limited land space. So in this study attempt was made to analyse the seismic response due to pounding between the buildings that are constructed without sufficient separation gap. A model of two buildings closes to each other one being G+ 10 storey and other being G+7 storey were considered. The parameters like displacement and impact force were considered for the analysis using SAP 2000 software. Mitigation measures are provided using lateral load resisting system such as bracings and shear wall. The objective of the study was to find the best practical solution for buildings subjected to seismic pounding under high seismic zone. Keywords: Bracings, impact force, pounding, SAP2000, shear wall, time history analysis.
EFFECT OF POUNDING ON GLOBAL RESPONSES OF BUILDINGS CONSTRUCTED IN A ROWIAEME Publication
Pounding is very complex phenomenon and it has been observed very often in metropolitan cities, during an earthquake, where series of buildings in a row without any seismic gaps are in abundance. Due to pounding during strong ground motion, the acceleration at pounding level considerably increases and generates extra pounding force which causes major structural damages or sometime results into building collapse.
This paper deals with the study of effects on global response of structures due to pounding during an earthquake. Time history analysis has been done to evaluate the pounding effects for different models of building when subjected to various ground motions into two different cases. The study have shown the effect of pounding on global response of adjacent structures in terms of acceleration, and impact forces which get amplified in many times.
