This study analyzes the seismic performance of a 180m tall reinforced concrete chimney using the SAP 2000 software. A parametric study is conducted to determine the effects of various parameters on the base shear and fundamental time period of the chimney. These parameters include the grade of concrete, wall thickness, top diameter, seismic zone, presence of openings, and soil type. The base shear and time period calculated from SAP 2000 are also compared to those obtained from the Indian code provisions. The results show that increasing the grade of concrete, thickness, top diameter, or soil stiffness decreases the base shear and time period, while more severe seismic zones or the addition of openings increases the seismic response of the chimney.

Abstract In India reinforced concrete structures are mostly used since this is the most convenient & economic system for low-rise buildings. However, for medium to high-rise buildings this type of structure is no longer economic because of increased dead load, less stiffness, span restriction and hazardous formwork. So the Structural engineers are facing the challenge of striving for the most efficient and economical design solution. Also Earthquake engineering should be extended to the design of earthquake sensitive tall buildings. Use of composite material is of particular interest, due to its significant potential in improving the overall performance through rather modest changes in manufacturing and constructional technologies. In India, many consulting engineers are reluctant to accept the use of composite steel-concrete structure because of its unfamiliarity and complexity in its analysis and design. But literature says that if properly configured, then composite steel-concrete system can provide extremely economical structural systems with high durability, rapid erection and superior seismic performance characteristics. This paper discusses Optimization of Earth quack response of tall building by using different types of framing system over the height of the building . So to optimize the earth quack response, a Ten story Combined model ( R.C.C, Composite and Steel frames) is developed and analyzed by using ETABS ; it proves that the combined model is better option. Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) is high quality and high precision welding process which are
suitable for welding thin metals. Inert gas as helium and argon are used as a shielding gas to prevent the weld
bead from air, dust and other contaminations in welding. There are so many welding process parameter affect
the weld quality in GTAW. Important process parameter which mainly affect the weld quality are welding
current, arc voltage, welding speed, gas flow rate, heat input, gun angle, stand of distance and specimen
thickness. Important quality parameters in GTAW process are depth of penetration and weld bead geometry.
Depth of penetration and weld bead width both are affected by welding speed. As welding speed increases,
depth of penetration increases but weld bead width decreases. The weld joint quality can be assessed in terms of
weld bead geometry, mechanical properties and distortion. Post weld heat treatment is done to improve the
weld quality by solutioning and aging which results in refinement of grain size and thus, mechanical properties
of weld joint improved. Heat input effects the filler rod deposition rate in the form of droplets in weld bead. This
paper covers review of process parameters of GTAW and their effect on weld quality.

IS: 4998 criteria for design of reinforced concrete chimneys
is using working stress method for chimney designing.
There are some limitations of working stress method. Also
the designing is difficult involving lengthy, cumbersome
and iterative computational effort.
So we should recognize this problem and we should use
some time saving techniques like interaction envelopes to
optimize the structural design.
Chimneys with various heights from 65m to 280m are
analyzed and designed by working stress method and limit
state method for collapse and comparison of results are
discussed in this paper. Generation of interaction curves for
hollow circular section is also discussed in this paper.
