Pandora Research Paper
The horses hooves galloped and came to a slow stop as the Everus family arrived in their grand
carriage to the front gates of the manor of Lord Pandora. A butler from beside the gates allowed Lord
Alexander Everus, Lady Elizabeth Everus, and young Aya Everus to file out. The Pandora Manor was
just as great as the Everus manor. The small noble family of three walked through the gates hand in
hand. This would be young Aya s first time visiting the Pandora Manor. Someone special was waiting
here for her. Young Lord Samael Pandora was around Aya s age and the only son of late Lady
Pandora. Lord Pandora was raised by the maids and few butlers of the household as his mother had
died during his birth. One of these butlers who helped raise Samael ... Show more content on

Lady Pandora was an aspiring teacher overridden by health issues and albinism. The albinism was
passed from her to her son, and as soon as Samael was born, Lord Pandora was filled with so much
grief, that he was unable to care for his son and became a drunk. Compared to the Pandora family, the
Everus family was quite lucky. They entered the great doors and were greeted with a flock of people
socializing and enjoying refreshments. The chandeliers let a light glow into the ballroom floor and a
small live orchestra was playing a pleasant melody as people greeting the luck Alexander Everus.
Brother! A deeper voice exclaimed from a small crowd, emerging a heavier man wearing a white suit,
light brown hair atop his head and a pair of worn out glasses upon his nose. His face bear a striking
resemblance to Alexander s. The man approached Alexander with a hug.
Charles! It has been a while brother. Aya s father made the remark to the man, returning the hug. This
man was Charles Everus. Unlucker of the two Everus , Charles owned businesses throughout
London...but was very secretive of what those businesses actually were. He seemed to be wealthy and
had a fair relationship with his brother. The two however were rivals and Charles was constantly
jealous of his elder, more handsome

Abc- Activity Based Costing
1a) Activity based costing is a relatively new type of procedure that can be used as an inventory
valuation method. The technique was developed to provide more accurate product costs. This
improved accuracy is accomplished by tracing costs to products through activities. In other words,
costs are traced to activities (activity costing) and then these costs are traced, in a second stage, to the
products that use the activities. Another way to express the idea is to say that activities consume
resources and products consume activities. Essentially, an attempt is made to treat all costs as variable,
recognizing that all costs vary with something, whether it is production volume or some non
production volume related phenomenon. Both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

DEET Research Paper
To begin with, I believe DEET is one of the most affective ways to repel mosquitos. Some do not
agree, as they believe DEET is a harmful chemical. I will explain why I think that DEET is one of the
best mosquito repellents. DEET is shorthand for the chemical name N,N diethyl meta toluamide and is
the active ingredient in most insect repellents. It has been used for over 60 years, by over 50 million
people. Dr. Mustapha Debboun, who is director of the mosquito control division of Harris County
Public Health and Environmental Services in Houston, says ¨DEET is the standard¨. Meaning that
DEET is the highest quality there is for bug spray. Dr. Dan Strickman, who is with the Global Health
Program at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When applied to certain materials, DEET can be damaging, which is concerning as it is approved for
use on human skin. DEET can damage rubber, plastic, vinyl, lenses and synthetic fibers. The people
who are against it claim that if DEET is that damaging to other things, think about what it might be
doing to us. According to the writer Francie Diep from Popular Science, ¨In all of scientific literature
since 1957, when DEET first appeared on store shelves researchers have reported 14 cases of kids
who suffered encephalopathy, including seizures, after using DEET on their skin. All but one were
kids under age 8. Three children died. The others recovered fully. In each of the cases, it was difficult
to determine whether DEET caused the brain symptoms. The kids could have been exposed to other
things, but it could have been the DEET, too.¨ However, I still stand by my opinion that DEET is the
best. There have been studies that show proof that DEET has no adverse affects. Many doctors agree
that it´s one of the best ways to repel the nasty blood suckers. Consequently if people somehow start
dying or getting cancer or mutating into weird stuff from using DEET, I will stop using it and use an
alternative. However, since it has not been proven to have those side effects, I will forever use bug
spray that contains DEET because the benefits outweigh the disadvantages, which are not even proven

Rabbit Proof Fence Film Techniques
The picture Rabbit Proof Fence directed by Phillip Noyce is the true tale about three aboriginal girls
called Molly, Daisy and Gracie who get taken from their mother to soon return back over a long
journey. This film represents the past of how the aboriginals in the stolen generations were treated and
taken from their parent so that they could be purified into a more white generation. During this picture
various audio and visual effects are given to display the feelings and emotions of the characters
contained in the film. Phillip Noyce positions the audience into a position to feel empathy and
sympathy for the girls using various background sounds/music and camera techniques which helps
incorporate the message and tragedy about what happened ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Sound effects are essential to this film as its sets the scene of the outback desert of Australia. When the
main characters Molly, Daisy and Gracie are traveling across Western Australia to get o Moore River
there isn t any music but there are many sound effects such as trains going along the tracks and a car
traveling across dirt roads. Music has also made you in this movie feel the emotions of Molly, Daisy
and Gracie when they are being taken into their dormitory at the Moore River Training Camp. During
the girls stay at the Moore River Training Camp there wasn t much background music but it is
replaced with a lot of various needed sound effects. Speaking by the host of the Moore River
workers/nuns is the most common sound effects throughout this scene. To show the expectations the
girls are spoken to many times especially when they are at breakfast as the nuns lead the prairies and
the children follow this shows how much the children are being pushed into the British colonist way
of life. Thus, Phillip Noyce has effectively used sound and musical elements to transfer his characters

Concentric Circle Castles
In 1066, there was a new way of construction due to the arrival of the Normans. The Normans brought
the Motte and Bailey Castles and the Concentric Circle Castles to Europe. Castles were used by
royalty to have secure protection from attacks. Castles would be expensive and take a long time to
build, making it only available to the rich and powerful. The first castles that were built during the
arrival of the Normans were the Motte and Bailey Castles, which then progressed into the Concentric
Circle Castles. Motte and Bailey Castles were the first castles brought by the Normans in 1066. They
were wooden and kept on an an artificial mound called a motte (Johnson). The castle would be
surrounded by an enclosed courtyard called a bailey. The whole area would be surrounded by a ditch
and palisade for extra protection (Johnson). The mote would be used as a final fighting destination
when the castle itself had been breached. Many of the Motte and Bailey Castles were built on river
crossings and crossroads because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The people needed stronger, more durable castles so they would be protected. The Concentric Circle
Castles were much superior to the Motte and Bailey Castles. The Motte and Bailey Castles were made
out of wood, which made it effortless to burn down. Concentric Circle Castles were made out of stone,
so it was not as easy to burn it. Concentric Circle Castles could last in rainy weather, which Motte and
Bailey Castles could not. Concentric Circle Castles were a lot taller and bigger, and had more security.
One of the features of the castle was the ability to attack from the inside. This made it easier to handle
attacks. Since methods of attacking castles improved as time went on, this was a major necessity when
building a castle. The Motte and Bailey Castles turned into Concentric Circle Castles, which was
helpful to the Lords and

Chocoholics Anonymous
While assessing the needs of the Chocoholics Anonymous organization our team agreed unanimously
that we wanted to gain the most value out of this project. We first sat down and decided our approach
for how to handle this project in the most professional and business simulating way possible. During
this sit down we agreed to treat this project like a real business venture. For that we would use a
hybrid approach that consisted of some project management techniques as well as agile software ...

These use cases would drive the goals of the project and our general though and planning process to
the user interface.
User Experience
We found that as we defined the use cases we began immediately thinking about how the use cases
would look as a user interface and user experience. The user experience is an important piece to the
overall puzzle of creating software. According to blog writer Dmitry Fadeyev a good user interface
needs to be clear, concise, familiar, responsive, consistent, attractive, efficient, and forgiving
(Fadeyev, 2009). When we set out to come up with a mocked user interface we talked about what
items would make these graphics easy to understand. As well what would make them pop on the page
or whatever would display them. For this we came up with a decent mocked set of graphics in html to
emulate what the user would see in the interface for the application. This set of mocked up graphics
would prove to be attractive, consistent, and even familiar. The other items on the list such as
responsiveness, efficiency, and forgiveness would have to be realized after the actual development
itself was accomplished.
The screen shots in Appendix E clearly show the basic principals we attempted to mock/create. We
knew that a basic drop

Importance Of Experiential Teaching
Experiential Teaching Why
I vividly remember and most appreciate professors that connected theoretical content of a lecture to
their daily practices and experiences. Professors that shared experiential knowledge, allowed me to
gain deeper understanding of the content and practical applications. This combination allowed me to
quickly implement new practices in my classroom early in my teaching career and tools early in my
management career. I hope to be a higher education educator who makes experiential connections and
adds a practical dimension to my classes through the incorporation of real world experiences. I believe
this will allow future teachers to walk away with practical tools and knowledge to better provide
students with a 21st century education. Providing experiential and theoretical knowledge will support
teachers professional and academic growth by increasing their overall knowledge.
Great teachers are the primary resources for improving instruction and preparing students for the
future (Sa, 1997). Students that have access to quality teachers and innovators, stand a greater chance
at competing in the workforces and positively impacting their communities (Peske Haycock, 2006).
To position our current and future educators for success, professors that can create deep and
meaningful connections with their students stand a greater chance of successfully positioning our
educators (Bers, 2007). This need for practical professors fuels my desire to share my

The Normative View Of Christianity
Christianity is a widespread religion that reaches many different cultures and places all around the
world. Since it is such a widespread religion there are many types of interpretations that can be
developed based off the words and teachings of the Bible. Most commonly we have the normative
view of Christianity. The normative view can most basically be understood as the highly shared
teachings of churches. Another type of interpretation that encompasses all beliefs that are not
compliant with the normative view is called esoteric. Here we will compare the interpretations of
Daskalos, the Great Teacher of Cypress, and his Researchers of Truth against the normative view of
Christianity as understood by both Catholics and Protestants. In order to further investigate the
differences between Daskalos esoteric beliefs and normative beliefs we must understand fully what
esoteric and normative truly mean. A few beliefs of normative Christianity, as explained by Moreman,
are as follows: the belief in judgement after death. There are only 2 places to go, hell or heaven and
that may or may not be after a slight stop in purgatory, the intermediate state of being right after death
where souls await resurrection (Moreman, 62). When the resurrection happens, people will be
resurrected in their physical bodies, thanks to interpretations by St. Augustine of Hippo (Moreman,
62). Those souls or people that are evil will spend eternity in hell in fiery damnation (Moreman, 63).

The Statue of Hatshepsut Essay
The statue of Hatshepsut seated down is made with the material limestone. This limestone is lightly
colored, which created a larger contrast with the other statues nearby. Her face was carved bringing
out her eyes, eyebrows and other facial features. Her eyebrows also come slightly together towards the
middle. Her lips forming a slight archaic smile. The dimensions are larger than an average female size.
The statue is of great size, yet still in proportion. The body and head fit well with each other overall.
However, it is greatly exaggerated in size.
It can be seen that the anatomy was handled quite ruggedly. There is much damage done on the knees,
hands and forearms. Only these areas of the sculpture seem to be damaged most severely. ... Show

She is viewed less as a woman but more of a male dominant figure. This piece does not have several
viewpoints but mostly one. It is to be approached from its front view. It is extremely direct with
Hatshepsut looking straightforward. The sculptor s primary focus seems to be her resemblance as
pharaoh. She is of power and should be approached directly as king. Hatshepsut is also displayed so
that the statue could only be seen by the front. Her back is to the wall; hence, having no access to
approach the statue toward its back. On the side of her thighs, there are horizontal lines playing a
contrast to everywhere else, as her body is smooth. Even when entering this section of the Egyptian
gallery, she can be viewed from the outside. She is directly aligned to the entrance. The museum
seems to structure the approach of Hatshepsut to be presented directly. This statue seems to have been
treated poorly and not with much care. It can be seen that it went through a lot causing such damage.
However, because of its massive size, it was able to survive and still be in somewhat good condition.
The body around the torso is relatively smooth and in tact with minor scratches. Her body itself was
not as damaged but mostly around the edges of the statue were broken off. The texture seems to be of
hard, rough limestone but it was smoothed out when being carved. The intended setting of this statue
is to be placed in

Morality In The Middle Ages Essay
Moral tales in the middle ages were set up to teach a lesson about how to live life according to the
church. During Medieval times most tales were religious based. The end of the Middle Ages were
more corrupt coming from the Catholic Church and that was a serious problem and those moral
messages came from the bible. There still may be some explanation to bring into play image of class,
especially middle class, well to Chaucer. The middle ages were a time of an era during which social
structures and theory were always changing. Chaucer knew, it s no trouble to write for a group of
people who slightly shared the same set of values, whether it was the parson, a cook, or an upper class
prioress. Each character Chaucer addressed had their own set of values and those values and definition
of the moral tales were defined in the medieval world by two structures known as the class system and
the church. The Catholic Church was extremely corrupt in middle ages and the Pardoner is one of the
prime examples of that corruption in the church. Later on in the years of the Middle Ages, some clergy
took it upon themselves of this tradition and charged people to see holy relics. The Pardoner actually

In the middle ages most tales were expressed that way. For Gode s love, take all patience for it may
not be otherwise (Chaucer 15). This is an important line because it helps bring about the concept of
love into the poem but also because it reminds us that middle ages true love was associated with love
of God and love from God. And that s what is revealed in the first reference of love. But I was hurt
right now throughout mine eye Into mine heart, that will my bane be. (Chaucer 16). This explains how
important it is during this period to claim that lust entered through your heart and eyes. The whole
purpose of this tale is to show the Romance in the Middle

Valjean In The Secret Life Of Victor Hugo
People have always viewed others who have made mistakes in the past as lesser beings. Victor Hugo
uses Valjean as an ideal figure to represent mistreatment given by the community for his past
mistakes. When Valjean first arrives at Digne, he enters the Croix de Colbas inn and is forced out
without service because it was known that he was an ex convict. As he is forced out, Valjean, would
have seen the innkeeper of the Croix de Colbas, standing at his doorway with all his guests, and
passers by gathered about him, speaking excitedly, and pointing him out, and from the looks of fear
and distrust was exchanged (10). Valjean being an ex convict is rejected by society without a true

because he was given no option, he was arrested and news articles create lies claiming he was an
extremely dangerous man, a wretch, who is endowed with herculean strength, managed to escape, but,
three or four days afterward, the police retook him,in Paris, just as he was getting into of the small

around. Before Valjean s arrest, he became a great person for the town of Montreuil sur mer creating a
kind community yet all that is overwritten with the lies fed up by the news. The people completely

How Successful Was Sweden A Feudal Country

The Success of the Swedish Empire
Sweden has not always been the small, quiet country it is today. In fact, back in the seventeenth and
eighteenth century, Sweden was a major player in power. Not only was Sweden small back then as
well, but Sweden was also poor and did not have any allies. Sweden never has been a feudal country,
which is key. Sweden also relied heavily on its generals, militaristic strategies, and natural resources
in order to succeed.
Sweden never being a feudal country is vital to its success. Not being feudal means that Sweden s

The Gray Zone by Primo Levi In the chapter, the gray zone, the author Primo Levi describes the
human relationships inside the Lager. In describing the gray zone, Levi discusses the different roles of
prisoners assigned by the Nazi. The prisoners that did the work were seen as being more privileged
which at the end of the day helped them get more food and live better. Therefore, the concept of the
gray zone is analyzing the difference between the privileged and the non privileged in the Lager. The
difference can be seen by the tasks that the prisoners carried out, for example, one of the groups were

Terrence Des Pres, The Survivor Summary The Survivor by Terrence Des Pres discusses how
prisoners survived in poor living conditions in the Warsaw Ghetto. He defines a survivor as, ...any
man or women striving to keep life and spirit intact not only those who returned, but the hundreds of
thousands who stayed alive sometimes for years, only to die at the last minute. He describes the
experience in the Ghetto where it was possible to survive with the collective efforts of others, which is
the opposite of how Primo Levi described it. Survivors experienced help from each other such as gifts
of food from friends and family. People were willing to give up their valuables for the better of others.
With these little gestures people felt better and more rich about their experience which helped lighten
the mood in the Ghetto. However, thousands still died every day at Treblinka, a concentration camp in
Poland. At the peak of operations, 15,000 men, women and children died there each day. Death on that
scale took enormous labor, and towards the end, when the SS began to fear discovery, the mass graves
were opened and the rotting bodies burned. The Sonderkommando, a group of prisoners, were
responsible of disposing bodies of other prisoners. The purpose of surviving till the end was to tell the
horrific stories of the Warsaw Ghetto. Such as the filthy living conditions. In Nazi camps especially,

Illicit Drug Trafficking
Role of social network structure in illicit drug trafficking in Columbia
By Preeti Kanther Over the past three decades, the US has spent more than a trillion dollars to curtail
drug industry operations in Latin America. During 1980s, Peru, Bolivia and Columbia used to
contribute 65%, 25% and 10% toward the overall coca production globally. Since then, due to many
US funded war efforts on drugs in these neighboring Andean countries, drug industry in Columbia got
a tremendous boost, increasing its market share to 90% and making it the world s largest cocaine
producer ever by 2000. Between 2000 and 2010, US invested close to $7.3bn on military and
economic aid to eradicate coca production and cocaine trafficking. The project ... Show more content

It s hard to understand the direction of information flow or where the authority resides in a network
which is flexible and constantly changing, which makes it harder for law enforcements to devise any
strategic moves and predict the outcome. The network structure seemed to be really dense in the core
with a lot of small organizations representing as closures3 which are tied to each other through brokers
or middlemen making hefty profits in between by providing services through constant access of new
information. The strength of intra network operations lies in the hands of these brokers. They could be
very well characterized as connectors4. Think of the network structure as really dense in the core and
spreading outwards on the periphery through weak ties. The weak ties enable the network to expand
and contract itself depending on the market situation. 5 The core members treat each other with high
degree of trust and belongingness, making it extremely hard for any outsider or law enforcement

Never Cry Wolf Ethos Pathos Logos
Farley Mowat in his book Never Cry Wolf was published in 1963, and in Never Cry Wolf Mowat uses
Pathos and Logos to prove wolves are not the ruthless killers people think they are. The basic
summary of the book is that Mowat is sent to go study the wolves and look at the predator and prey
relationship, because hunters are saying that all the wolves are killing all of the caribou he discovers
that they aren t and only killing what they need. Mowat uses Logos to persuade us that the wolves are

What Does It Mean To Say That God Is All Evil
I strongly believe that these three statements are true. God is all powerful. God is all good. Evil exists
in the world. To many these three statements appear contradictory. How can God be all powerful, all
good, and still allow evil to be present in the lives of people?
Many would argue that God can be all powerful and allow evil to occur because he is not entirely
good. Others would say God is all good, but he is not powerful or involved enough to stop all evil
from happening. It almost seems as if logically God cannot be all powerful and all good and allow the
existence of evil.
Revelation 4:10 discusses people sitting before the throne of God worshipping God and laying their
crowns and treasures at his feet. In verse eleven they say for you created all things, and by your will
they were created and have their being. I draw my beliefs on the presence of evil from this passage. ...

Many would read that statement and cry heresy, and maybe it is. I believe in a God that created
everything. As the creator of all God is not bound by the same concepts and laws that people are. He
exists outside of time and possesses omniscience to know everything that has or will happen.
God is completely good. For a multitude of people, this idea is a major hang up. Why would a God
that is completely good command one of his followers to sacrifice his only son? That sounds like a
really bad God who doesn t love people. Why would a God that is supposedly all good command his
people to wipe out men, women, and children of other nations and then punish them for showing
mercy? Again, this is a lousy God. There are several biblical examples of God that don t fit into our
nice little box of what we want him to be. Yet, I still firmly believe that he is entirely

United States Army Special Forces Essay
The United States Army Special Forces The first military establishment was formed before the United
States was officially declared a country for the purpose of meeting the needs of the colonists during
the American Revolution. The Army s mission is to fight and win the Nation s wars by providing
prompt, sustained land dominance across a full range of military operations. Although the history of
the United States Army is deeply rooted in the country s history, the implementation of the United
States Special Forces Operations Unit is fairly young having been established in May 1952 yet
unannounced to the public until 1954. In an effort to uphold the Army s mission, the Special Forces

Strong Characterism In Ship Breaker By Paolo Bacigalupi
Killing isn t free. It takes something out of you every time you do it. You get their life; the get a piece

But the place where this takes place is very unique. Such a simple story arch, but with a twist of death,
savagery, and an apocalypse.
Bacigalupi creates strong character development with Nailer. He starts out the book with Nailer being
afraid of his father and is sceptical of killing and the subject of death. But once he sees Blue Eyes get
killed he realizes that killing is essential to survive in his world. In the beginning of the story one of
his light crew members, Sloth, doesn t help him out of a oil tanker. Nailer is forced to do it himself,
and is ready to die. But then he realizes that he must man up and get out of the tanker. This is where
Nailers determination, later in the story, comes from.
Whilst reading the story you will feel like it has gone by fast. This has to do with Bacigalupi s writing.
He writes in a very fast paced way, but when he needs to slow down and focus on something he will.
He also writes with a lot of figurative language which creates a picture of what is happening in the

I Stand Here Ironing By Tillie Olsen
Women have for many years struggled with balancing the demands of home, children and work. This
is especially true for young single mothers who do not have the support of family.
I Stand Here Ironing written by Tillie Olsen is a short story that reflects on the struggles of a single
mother who looks back on the past and tries to assess the effect her decisions and circumstances had
on her young daughter, Emily. This story is part of the awarding winning collection, Tell Me A Riddle,
which was first published in 1961 (Wolfe). This story is considered the most autobiographical of
Olsen s literary works (Piedmont Marton). The title of the story is taken from the stories opening line,
I stand here ironing, and what you asked me moves tormented back and forth with the iron (Bauer,
Olsen). The story is one of the best examples in literature, and certainly one of the first, to offer
readers a glimpse into the lives of the working class women and families from a woman s perspective.
(Piedmont Marton) This story illustrates Olsen s particular concern with the difficulties faced by
women . (Wolfe) As the story unfolds, Olsen uses distinct character traits, imagery, tone, and style to
create a dramatic sense of the mother s internal debate of her own feelings. The tone of this story is
one of fear, regret, and guilt. The story first leaves the reader with impression that it may be a recount
of the life of a daughter who was lost due to neglect. Soon it is evident

Edwidge Danticat s novel, The Farming of Bones is an epic portrayal of the relationship between
Haitians and Dominicans under the rule of Generalissimo Rafael Trujillo leading up to the Slaughter
of 1937. The novel revolves around a few main concepts, these being birth, death, identity, and place
and displacement. Each of the aspects is represented by an inanimate object. Water, dreams, twins, and
masks make up these representations. Symbolism is consistent throughout the novel and gives the
clearly stated and unsophisticated language a deeper more complex meaning. While on the surface the

Within the first four chapters the Senora is in labor and much to her surprise, and the surprise of the
readers, the Senora gives birth to a set of twins. Upon the arrival of the twins it is said that most babies
begin as twins but one usually kills the other as a result of having to share the same womb. Many of us
start out as twins in the belly and do away with the other, says Doctor Javier (p. 19). This is an exact
parallel to Haitians and Dominicans. The womb is the island that the two nations share, and they are
the twins, one of which will most likely kill the other. It becomes abundantly clear throughout the
novel the amount of hatred and disgust the two nations have for one another and when one of the
twins dies unexpectedly, readers are left wondering which nation will be the first to fall. There was
quite a difference between the twins as one was lighter skinned, and the other, much to the family s
dismay, had much darker skin. The Dominican Republic was represented by the stronger, lighter
skinned, male baby, and Haiti was portrayed by the weak, dark skinned, female child. When, much to
the readers surprise, the male child is the one that dies, it implies a sort of uncertain future for the
Dominicans. The use of twins is an important aspect of the novel as it allows the author to inform her
readers through symbolism as opposed to literally disturbing the story line.

Cinematography Analysis in Chinatown
Chinatown is based on Roman Polanski s lifeworks. Polanski s goal is to emphasizes the meaning of
how cinematography is made, and how it inspires by understanding the concept of setting, lighting,
and how the image is captured. This film was released in 1974 by director of Roman Polanski to focus

truth. Polanski s goal is to emphasize the audience to give an ominous feeling of the main character,
J.J. Gittes and his point of view by showing in color instead of black and white pictures. Due to these
reasons, Polanski wanted to use Panavision to give a flawed vision about the past, which the story is
set in the years of 1937. Polanski states, a traditional detective story with a new, modern shape for
Paramount picture. (1) This paper focuses on the film Chinatown which is neo noir, not only because
of the setting, but the concept of cinematography that connects duplicates occurrences together that
describe three categories: background of the cinematographer, point of view of the main character, and
the interpretation of the ending scenes.
First of all, Roman Polanski hired John A. Alonzo as the Director of Photography for Chinatown.

technology and its effect on society. Artificial Intelligence has come a long way since it started, and
will keep prospering as the digital age keeps innovating. Which relates to Moore s Law regarding how
the speed of rate for computer processing will double every two years, and how I can apply it to my
personal life. Programs, and the digital age will continue to develop, and modernize which is why I
have to adapt to my surroundings as best as I can. As well as use the tools and resources the digital age
have given me in order to be successful in my future career. I have to keep up to date with the new
software, and opportunities that technology brings, because even if you do not make use of them, they
will not stop evolving. As Friedman concludes in the book, times change faster than we realize, and
that is why we as individuals and nations have to adapt by being innovative, open to change, and
taking a moment to shut out the rest of the world, and acknowledging our surroundings and giving
value to it. I would recommend this book to any of my friends, and to anyone in my generation since it
is a book that addresses the present and all of the digital changes that we as a society have been going
through, Specifically, the next generation, as Friedman states is the generation that is: going to be

towards technology and the effect it is bringing to us, with a silver lining in the end of how we can

money for testing the system and training the employees well in advance however there was a high
risk of damaging the brand name since other surrounding issues such as website crashes made
customers angry and brought a bad reputation. After seeing what happened to WestJet, JetBlue faced a
similar risk of losing customers during the upgrade system however they had to incur costs to build up
a back up site. There s always a risk when customers don t like the upgraded system. It raises many
questions; What if the customers prefer the older system? Big losses can occur. However, on the other
side the upgrade can be efficient and if it works better than the previous version, it can lead to attract

WestJet faced problems in transferring files containing data on transactions for customers who had

Analysis Of John Womack s Zapata And The Mexican Revolution
The Mexican Revolution brought multiple parties and movements out of the woodwork. In John
Womack s Zapata and the Mexican Revolution, a story of one state s drive for agrarian reform and its
people s evolving mission was told, with Emiliano Zapata as a pivotal leader. The dynamics of the
revolution, however, reach deeper than Womack s account portrays. While Womack documents the
revolutionary path of the Zapatistas from the southern state of Morelos, the story of Pancho Villa, an
arguably parallel character fighting for states in the North against the repressive powers of General
Victoriano Huerta, reads more as a subplot. The writings of Samuel Brunk, Ana Maria Alonso, and
Mariano Azuela shed light on the less simplistic dynamics of ... Show more content on

His careful language exemplifies a quasi diplomatic approach in controlling his followers. Brunk also
emphasizes that many other jefes [...] resented what Zapatista headquarters had become: the
centralizing product of Zapata s interaction with urban intellectual parties (350). This internal struggle
stemming different actor s perspective on what was happening to Zapatismo provides a more nuanced
look at a pivotal group in the Mexican Revolution.
The image of a somewhat cohesive revolutionary party working towards peace put forth by Womack
draws a stark line between the bandit enemy described by General Huerta and the Zapatistas. Brunk,
in his writings on Zapata, challenges this narrative by exploring the gray space that does not allow for
easy delineation between revolutionaries and bandits. Rather than existing as an arbitrary offshoot of
Zapatismo, banditry represented the pursuit of local political (and economic) goals (Brunk, 349).
Womack does acknowledge the insoluble village rivalries that only compromise could ease , but does
not relate them directly to feuds involving bandits (Womack, 233). The nature of local politics was
arguably defined by the multiplicity of intrinsic power struggles over local democratization.
As each jefe sought to delegitimize the other in the eyes of Zapatista headquarters and this to gain an
advantage in the local power struggle , a similar struggle emerged among

Napoleon Bonaparte: The Ruthless Conqueror
Napoleon Bonaparte was one of the most successful and controversial military leaders of all time.
Leading France from the years 1799 to 1815, he would establish the French empire, a superpower that
was very similar to that of the Romans. In only sixteen years, Bonaparte came close to conquering all

his reign, Bonaparte s main goal was to conquer all of Europe. In order to do so, he recognized that he

Continental system. The Continental system was a set of blockades that was designed to cut the

In 1940, the United States was extremely against this animosity and reacted with trade embargoes and
monetary approvals. FDR had talked with the Dutch and the British to see if they would agree upon

States was not prepared for war. For instance, the oil embargo that was organized between the British,
the Dutch, and the United States was about 90% of Japan s imported oil. [3] This upset Japan because
without oil or fuel their military and war efforts would come to a complete stop.
Beginning of the year in 1941, FDR decided that the Pacific Fleet would move to Hawaii from San

O Brother Where Art Thou Character Analysis
O Brother, Where Art Thou? is a 2001 film produced by Joel and Ethan Coen set in 1930 s
Mississippi. The film is loosely based on The Odyssey by Homer. George Clooney stars as Ulysses
Everett McGill, John Turturro as Pete Hogwallop, and Tim Blake Nelson as Delmar O Donnell.
Everett convinces Pete and Delmar to run away from prison to search for treasure. Pete and Delmar
have big plans as to what they plan to do with the treasure; Pete wants to open a restaurant, and
Delmar wants to buy back his family s farm. The men have several adventures along the way and meet
interesting characters. The first person they come to is a nameless man on a railroad hand cart warning
the men to not seek treasure. They continue on and meet Tommy who is a black ... Show more content

The movie opens with prisoners singing Po Lazarus which sets the scene that the movie will have a
focus on the music instead of it just being in the background. Next, as the trio is trying to get on the
train to stowaway and get away from the police, Big Rock Candy Mountain is in the background but is
meant to be heard loud and clear. It is an upbeat folk song by Harry McClintock from 1928 about his
hobo days. This is fitting for Everett, Pete, and Delmar s current situation. All of the music in the
movie is either traditional or from the Great Depression era. The music selections help to authenticate
the movie for the era more than the realness of the story based on an epic poem. Man of Constant
Sorrow is what the men sing to Mr. Lund to get money; he loves the song and has it played on
numerous radio stations. The song is a foundation to the film as it is sung twice and in the background
two more times as an instrumental version. This is important with movies in general to have a song to
connect the movie to and a movie to connect a song. The movie almost feels like musical at some
points only except that no one breaks out in song. When Everett and the others go to his house to get
Penny s ring, they are met by Sheriff Cooley and his gang that are ready to hang them for escaping
prison. There are graves that have been dug by gravediggers; they are standing over the graves singing
O Death and give an eerie feeling to the scene. The plot of the film also contributes greatly to the
success of the

The Cause Of Poverty In The United States
Poverty is one of the most prevalent issues in our world today. In many third world countries, most of
citizens live in poverty. Somalia is one of these third world countries that have extreme rates of
poverty. There are many factors that have led to these major rates of poverty. Somalia s economy is
very bad because of the high unemployment rates and piracy. Because of the civil war that happened
in Somalia, the government is not able to help decrease poverty levels. Lack of education in the
country makes it difficult for people to get jobs. The economy, the government and the education
levels are some of the most prevalent issues leading to this high rate of poverty within Somalia. The

Education is very important for everyone to have but many of the schools that were located within
Somalia are gone, In Central South Somalia more than three quarters of public schools that existed
before the civil war have been destroyed and/or closed and state intervention in the education sector
has been limited. (Education in Somalia, n.d. para. 2). Meaning that many of the children who live in
Somalia, are not getting a proper education. Even if they go to receive an education, they are not there
for very long, Children are in school for an average of only three years, with 50 percent of the child
population contributing to the work force. (Poverty in Somalia, n.d. para. 9). Because these people live
in such poverty, these children choose to work to earn some money instead of receiving an education.
Many people in the country are illiterate, Only 37.8 percent of the population over the age of 15 can
read and write. (Poverty in Somalia, n.d. para. 8). Because of these facts, many of the Somalian people
cannot get better jobs. This also makes it extremely difficult for the Somalian people to go to different
countries in search for a better life. These are the reasons why the education of the Somalian people
have a major effect on the high poverty levels in the

Psychotherapy Strategies Drawn from Psychodynamic and...
The purpose of this paper is to analyze a video entitled Psychodynamic Interpersonal Counseling
Psychotherapy (Brooks Harris Oliveira Berry, 2004). The video features Dr. Jeff Brooks Harris and
Dr. Jill Oliveira Berry demonstrating sixteen skills drawn from psychodynamic and interpersonal
approaches to psychotherapy.
Essential Elements of Psychodynamic and Interpersonal Approaches to Psychotherapy
Psychoanalysis is a unique form of psychological treatment founded by Sigmund Freud and later
modified by his followers including Alfred Adler, Carl Jung, and Harry Stack Sullivan (Wedding
Corsini, 2013). Although there is no one psychoanalytic theory Wedding and Corsini (2013) tell us

This transference may represent Mia s feelings about her past relationship with her parents or her
current relationship with her friends, and/or her boyfriend. Dr. Brooks Harris encourages Mia to blame
him for her disappointment instead of blaming herself. By resolving her conflicts in the therapeutic
relationship, Mia may discover ways of resolving conflicts in a more healthy way outside of therapy.
Mia then describes a dream she had about leaving home for college. She also describes her sister who
is in her dream attempting to keep her from leaving. Dr. Brooks Harris uses dream interpretation to
suggest that the characters in the dream may represent different parts of Mia and her feelings about
leaving her boyfriend. For instance, Mia s sister may represent the part of Mia that doesn t want to
leave her boyfriend. Once Mia has decided to break up wither boyfriend, Dr. Brooks Harris
encourages her to build new relationships or strengthen those she already has. He does this because if
Mia has alternative relationships she is less likely to respond to changes in her other relationships with
anxiety and depression. The second session features Dr. Jill Oliveira Berry who is working with a
female client named Suzy who has recently broken up with her boyfriend. Suzy is at first unable to
identify what she wants to talk about. Dr. Oliveira Berry s encourages her to use free association to

Good Life Analysis
What is your version of the good life using three aspects of life and is it the same as the person next to
you? Everyone has their own idea of the ideal life and no two people have the same exact idea. Some
may have the idea of money, clothes, and cars while another may have the idea of family, no death,
and a big house. The two individuals have two completely different points of view, interests, likes,
dislikes, and aspirations. My version of the good life is nothing like the other examples but it is okay
because it is supposed to be different. Personally my ideal life include having enough money to
sustain and be comfortable, having a successful career, and having a lifetime supply of puppies and
dogs. There are reasons behind why I have chosen these specific aspects of a possible life and they
will be explained in the paragraphs to follow.
I chose the first aspect to be money because I want to have enough money to get my family and me in
a good place. A place where we would not have to worry about making ends meet but a place where
we could have all our basic needs met. This would be sustained by my husband and I have decent
paying jobs. For instance, him being a construction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

completely different points of view, interests, likes, dislikes, and aspirations. I went on to talk about
my version of the good life and how it was different. My ideal life began with having enough money
to sustain and be comfortable because I did not want my family to have to struggle for anything. Next
was my dream career as an equine veterinarian because it would help my family and I not struggle
money wise and I would love work. Last was a lifetime supply of puppies and dogs just because they

Research Paper On Metabolic Syndrome
Metabolic syndrome
This is a multiple condition; high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist,
and abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels that occur together, increasing the risk of heart disease,
stroke and diabetes. Large waist circumference is a visible sign. Metabolic syndrome is linked to
overweight or obesity and inactivity and also to insulin resistence, when cells don t respond normally
to insulin, and glucose can t enter the cells as easily. As a result, glucose levels in your blood rise
despite the body s attempt to control the glucose by producing more insulin.
The risk of metabolic syndrome increases with age and is greater in specific races.

Touch Football Game Analysis
This assessment piece will examine and assess my suitability to play either the middle, link or wing
position in Touch football based on the fitness test results, energy requirements for selected positions
and skills demonstrated in games analysis. In the fitness tests carried out evidence shows that I am
best suited to play the position middle because out of all my fitness results. The fitness tests carried
out showed that my ratings and results were best suited for the requirements of a middle player in
touch. (Appendix One)
Touch football is a game that has three positions as a middle, link, and wing. Each of these positions
has specific fitness components to be successful. The main fitness components for middle are speed,

Speed is a necessity in touch because getting past the opposing defensive line is key. Also, quick
reactions with passing rucking etc will help the team s performance. Cardiorespiratory endurance is a
measurement of how well your heart, lungs, and muscles work together to keep your body active over
an extended period of time.
For a touch football player to be successful in the middle position several components of fitness are
needed for the player to be effective. One of the important fitness components for touch football is
coordination. Coordination is needed for all positions in touch football to help your nervous system
and your muscles to work together, so that you can perform specific movements smoothly and
accurately (Amezdroz, 2004). Examples of coordination in touch football are hand eye coordination
whilst catching and passing the ball and touching an opposing player. Also, foot and leg coordination
whilst running up the field and back on side. In recent fitness tests coordination is measured by the
alternate hand rebound test. Results showed that I got a score of 27 with my hand eye coordination
which is a rating of excellent (Appendix One). In a 30 minute game I made 44 passes and 45 catches

Game Theory Project Phase 1
GAME THEORY Project Phase I
1. Introduction
Decision concerning electrical transmission network expansion has become harder in the last two
decades. As a matter of fact, the power sector has been decentralized and the electricity market is now
a competitive market. Thus a transmission expansion plan cannot follow the traditional planning
criteria anymore. As a result, new techniques are developed in order to solve the transmission
expansion problem TEP.
Usually different optimization methods are used to solve the TEP: genetic algorithm (GA), Tabu
search (TS) and several heuristic and metaheuristic techniques. Those are called static scenarios.
Dynamic scenarios are the one based on game theory which represents the behavior ... Show more

The model is applied to the Garver six bus system for testing.
A form of non cooperative games is defined in [5]. The concept of reference transmission network
(RTN) is introduced. The RTN is considered to be the sub game perfect Nash equilibrium of the
dynamic game. The game agents in this paper are the planner and all the power producers.
Transmission expansion plans are proposed by the investors and the planner chooses one possible
feasible plan. For each plan a multi stage game is performed and every stage is formed by a number of
spot market sessions. At every spot market an auction is organized and both power producers and
consumers participate and bid. The Nash equilibrium at each stage is computed using diagonalization
algorithm. As an illustrative example, A 3 bus system is used.
In [6] a transmission expansion search methodology is proposed using multiple optimization
techniques. Once the optimal TEP is obtained, the costs of the included projects are evaluated
considering the bargaining solution of the right of ways between investor and land owner, the asset
cost and the level of effort of the corresponding agent (investor). A principle agent game where the
principle is the central planner and the agent is the investor is used to model the expected utility of the
game participants. Finally the bidding competition occur in order to win the project contract. The
optimal bid is concluded depending on the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Stochastic Model
3.1 Deterministic models There are two types of model that we are going to look at, firstly the
deterministic model and then the stochastic model. [23]A deterministic model is used in a situation
where the result can be established straightforwardly from a series of conditions. It has no stochastic
elements and both the input and the outputs are determined conclusively. On the other hand a
stochastic model is one where the cause and effect relationship is stochastically or randomly
determined. Therefore the system having stochastic element is generally not solved analytically and
hence there are several cases for which it is difficult to build an intuitive perspective. When simulating
a stochastic model a random number is usually generated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is illustrated in figure 3 below. The chain ladder method explicitly relies on the assumption that
the expected cumulative losses settled up to and including the development year divided by the
expected cumulative claims losses settled up to and including the previous development year hold for
all claim occurrence years. 3.1.4. A Loss development data Let us consider a range of risks and
assume that each claim of the portfolio is settled either in the accident year or in the following n
development years. The data can be modelled by cumulative losses and incremental losses. 3.1.4. B
Incremental losses Let CI,J where i, j Ɛ{1.2...n} (a) represent incremental losses of accident year i
which is settled with a delay of j years and therefore in development year j. Let us also assume that
incremental losses C I, j are observable for calendar years i + J ≤ n and are non observable for
calendar years i + J ≥ n + 1. The runoff triangle below shows the incremental losses for accident years
2000 developing over 10 years. In this case the incremental loss for 2000 development year 5

The Triangle Factory Fire Of 1911
The Triangle Factory Fire of 1911 The Industrial Revolution is remembered as a major turning point
in U.S. history. During this time, there were advancements in technology, an abundance of natural
resources, cheap labor and investment capital. Industrialization led to the development of factories,
which led to the increase in jobs for many immigrants. These advancements clearly overshadowed the
harsh working conditions for many of these factory workers. In 1911, The Triangle Factory Fire was a
clear representation of the dangers when the focus is on cheap labor production instead of the
wellbeing of the factory workers. The Triangle Waist Company, manufactured women s clothing and
was located in the heart of Manhattan. This company, owned by Max Blanck and Isaac Harris,
occupied the floors of the Asch Building. The factory attracted many people in desperate need of
work. This consequently led to the workers being taken advantage of by paying them very low wages.
They often worked excessively long hours without adequate compensation, and the safety or work
conditions were also of no importance. Around the same time other factories were actually standing up
and protesting the harsh working conditions in what is known as sweatshops. Even after the
cloakmakers strike of 1910, which established a grievance system, most working conditions did not
improve. Also a lot of the workers were immigrant woman and did not have the confidence to stand up
to the factory owners. The

  • 2. Pandora Research Paper The horses hooves galloped and came to a slow stop as the Everus family arrived in their grand carriage to the front gates of the manor of Lord Pandora. A butler from beside the gates allowed Lord Alexander Everus, Lady Elizabeth Everus, and young Aya Everus to file out. The Pandora Manor was just as great as the Everus manor. The small noble family of three walked through the gates hand in hand. This would be young Aya s first time visiting the Pandora Manor. Someone special was waiting here for her. Young Lord Samael Pandora was around Aya s age and the only son of late Lady Pandora. Lord Pandora was raised by the maids and few butlers of the household as his mother had died during his birth. One of these butlers who helped raise Samael ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lady Pandora was an aspiring teacher overridden by health issues and albinism. The albinism was passed from her to her son, and as soon as Samael was born, Lord Pandora was filled with so much grief, that he was unable to care for his son and became a drunk. Compared to the Pandora family, the Everus family was quite lucky. They entered the great doors and were greeted with a flock of people socializing and enjoying refreshments. The chandeliers let a light glow into the ballroom floor and a small live orchestra was playing a pleasant melody as people greeting the luck Alexander Everus. Brother! • 3. Abc- Activity Based Costing 1a) Activity based costing is a relatively new type of procedure that can be used as an inventory valuation method. The technique was developed to provide more accurate product costs. This improved accuracy is accomplished by tracing costs to products through activities. In other words, costs are traced to activities (activity costing) and then these costs are traced, in a second stage, to the products that use the activities. Another way to express the idea is to say that activities consume resources and products consume activities. Essentially, an attempt is made to treat all costs as variable, recognizing that all costs vary with something, whether it is production volume or some non production volume related phenomenon. • 5. DEET Research Paper To begin with, I believe DEET is one of the most affective ways to repel mosquitos. Some do not agree, as they believe DEET is a harmful chemical. I will explain why I think that DEET is one of the best mosquito repellents. DEET is shorthand for the chemical name N,N diethyl meta toluamide and is the active ingredient in most insect repellents. It has been used for over 60 years, by over 50 million people. Dr. Mustapha Debboun, who is director of the mosquito control division of Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services in Houston, says ¨DEET is the standard¨. Meaning that DEET is the highest quality there is for bug spray. Dr. Dan Strickman, who is with the Global Health Program at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When applied to certain materials, DEET can be damaging, which is concerning as it is approved for use on human skin. DEET can damage rubber, plastic, vinyl, lenses and synthetic fibers. The people who are against it claim that if DEET is that damaging to other things, think about what it might be doing to us. According to the writer Francie Diep from Popular Science, ¨In all of scientific literature since 1957, when DEET first appeared on store shelves researchers have reported 14 cases of kids who suffered encephalopathy, including seizures, after using DEET on their skin. All but one were kids under age 8. Three children died. The others recovered fully. In each of the cases, it was difficult to determine whether DEET caused the brain symptoms. The kids could have been exposed to other things, but it could have been the DEET, too.¨ However, I still stand by my opinion that DEET is the best. There have been studies that show proof that DEET has no adverse affects. Many doctors agree that it´s one of the best ways to repel the nasty blood suckers. Consequently if people somehow start dying or getting cancer or mutating into weird stuff from using DEET, I will stop using it and use an alternative. However, since it has not been proven to have those side effects, I will forever use bug spray that contains DEET because the benefits outweigh the disadvantages, which are not even proven ... • 6. Rabbit Proof Fence Film Techniques The picture Rabbit Proof Fence directed by Phillip Noyce is the true tale about three aboriginal girls called Molly, Daisy and Gracie who get taken from their mother to soon return back over a long journey. The Normans brought the Motte and Bailey Castles and the Concentric Circle Castles to Europe. Castles were used by royalty to have secure protection from attacks. Castles would be expensive and take a long time to build, making it only available to the rich and powerful. The first castles that were built during the arrival of the Normans were the Motte and Bailey Castles, which then progressed into the Concentric Circle Castles. Motte and Bailey Castles were the first castles brought by the Normans in 1066. They were wooden and kept on an an artificial mound called a motte (Johnson). The castle would be surrounded by an enclosed courtyard called a bailey. The whole area would be surrounded by a ditch and palisade for extra protection (Johnson). User Experience We found that as we defined the use cases we began immediately thinking about how the use cases would look as a user interface and user experience. The user experience is an important piece to the overall puzzle of creating software. According to blog writer Dmitry Fadeyev a good user interface needs to be clear, concise, familiar, responsive, consistent, attractive, efficient, and forgiving (Fadeyev, 2009). When we set out to come up with a mocked user interface we talked about what items would make these graphics easy to understand. As well what would make them pop on the page or whatever would display them. For this we came up with a decent mocked set of graphics in html to emulate what the user would see in the interface for the application. This set of mocked up graphics would prove to be attractive, consistent, and even familiar. The other items on the list such as responsiveness, efficiency, and forgiveness would have to be realized after the actual development itself was accomplished. • 10. Importance Of Experiential Teaching Experiential Teaching Why I vividly remember and most appreciate professors that connected theoretical content of a lecture to their daily practices and experiences. Professors that shared experiential knowledge, allowed me to gain deeper understanding of the content and practical applications. This combination allowed me to quickly implement new practices in my classroom early in my teaching career and tools early in my management career. I hope to be a higher education educator who makes experiential connections and adds a practical dimension to my classes through the incorporation of real world experiences. I believe this will allow future teachers to walk away with practical tools and knowledge to better provide students with a 21st century education. Providing experiential and theoretical knowledge will support teachers professional and academic growth by increasing their overall knowledge. Great teachers are the primary resources for improving instruction and preparing students for the future (Sa, 1997). Students that have access to quality teachers and innovators, stand a greater chance at competing in the workforces and positively impacting their communities (Peske Haycock, 2006). To position our current and future educators for success, professors that can create deep and meaningful connections with their students stand a greater chance of successfully positioning our educators (Bers, 2007). • 11. The Normative View Of Christianity Christianity is a widespread religion that reaches many different cultures and places all around the world. Since it is such a widespread religion there are many types of interpretations that can be developed based off the words and teachings of the Bible. Most commonly we have the normative view of Christianity. The normative view can most basically be understood as the highly shared teachings of churches. Another type of interpretation that encompasses all beliefs that are not compliant with the normative view is called esoteric. Here we will compare the interpretations of Daskalos, the Great Teacher of Cypress, and his Researchers of Truth against the normative view of Christianity as understood by both Catholics and Protestants. In order to further investigate the differences between Daskalos esoteric beliefs and normative beliefs we must understand fully what esoteric and normative truly mean. A few beliefs of normative Christianity, as explained by Moreman, are as follows: the belief in judgement after death. There are only 2 places to go, hell or heaven and that may or may not be after a slight stop in purgatory, the intermediate state of being right after death where souls await resurrection (Moreman, 62). When the resurrection happens, people will be resurrected in their physical bodies, thanks to interpretations by St. Augustine of Hippo (Moreman, 62). Those souls or people that are evil will spend eternity in hell in fiery damnation (Moreman, 63). The beliefs of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This limestone is lightly colored, which created a larger contrast with the other statues nearby. Her face was carved bringing out her eyes, eyebrows and other facial features. Her eyebrows also come slightly together towards the middle. Her lips forming a slight archaic smile. The dimensions are larger than an average female size. The statue is of great size, yet still in proportion. The body and head fit well with each other overall. However, it is greatly exaggerated in size. She is of power and should be approached directly as king. Hatshepsut is also displayed so that the statue could only be seen by the front. The body around the torso is relatively smooth and in tact with minor scratches. Her body itself was not as damaged but mostly around the edges of the statue were broken off. • 14. Morality In The Middle Ages Essay Moral tales in the middle ages were set up to teach a lesson about how to live life according to the church. During Medieval times most tales were religious based. The end of the Middle Ages were more corrupt coming from the Catholic Church and that was a serious problem and those moral messages came from the bible. There still may be some explanation to bring into play image of class, especially middle class, well to Chaucer. The middle ages were a time of an era during which social structures and theory were always changing. Chaucer knew, it s no trouble to write for a group of people who slightly shared the same set of values, whether it was the parson, a cook, or an upper class prioress. Each character Chaucer addressed had their own set of values and those values and definition of the moral tales were defined in the medieval world by two structures known as the class system and the church. The Catholic Church was extremely corrupt in middle ages and the Pardoner is one of the prime examples of that corruption in the church. Later on in the years of the Middle Ages, some clergy took it upon themselves of this tradition and charged people to see holy relics. The Pardoner actually sells pardons, wiping a clean ... And that s what is revealed in the first reference of love. But I was hurt right now throughout mine eye Into mine heart, that will my bane be. (Chaucer 16). He describes the experience in the Ghetto where it was possible to survive with the collective efforts of others, which is the opposite of how Primo Levi described it. Survivors experienced help from each other such as gifts of food from friends and family. People were willing to give up their valuables for the better of others. With these little gestures people felt better and more rich about their experience which helped lighten the mood in the Ghetto. However, thousands still died every day at Treblinka, a concentration camp in Poland. At the peak of operations, 15,000 men, women and children died there each day. Death on that scale took enormous labor, and towards the end, when the SS began to fear discovery, the mass graves were opened and the rotting bodies burned. To many these three statements appear contradictory. How can God be all powerful, all good, and still allow evil to be present in the lives of people? Many would argue that God can be all powerful and allow evil to occur because he is not entirely good. Others would say God is all good, but he is not powerful or involved enough to stop all evil from happening. It almost seems as if logically God cannot be all powerful and all good and allow the existence of evil. Revelation 4:10 discusses people sitting before the throne of God worshipping God and laying their crowns and treasures at his feet. Many of us start out as twins in the belly and do away with the other, says Doctor Javier (p. 19). This is an exact parallel to Haitians and Dominicans. The womb is the island that the two nations share, and they are the twins, one of which will most likely kill the other. It becomes abundantly clear throughout the novel the amount of hatred and disgust the two nations have for one another and when one of the twins dies unexpectedly, readers are left wondering which nation will be the first to fall. There was quite a difference between the twins as one was lighter skinned, and the other, much to the family s dismay, had much darker skin. The Dominican Republic was represented by the stronger, lighter skinned, male baby, and Haiti was portrayed by the weak, dark skinned, female child. Napoleon Bonaparte would blame Russia for his failure, and invade the vast country. This would be the biggest failure of his career. In an attempt to defeat his new enemy, Bonaparte would march 600,000 thousand troops into Russia. Even as the weather conditions worsened, Bonaparte decided to always push further into Russia, trying to conquer Moscow before winter, (Source E) which he knew would cost him more lives. Eventually losing about 500,000 of these men, he return to France with the remains of an army. This means that Bonaparte did not consider what the cost of these wars could be. This is significant, as this is a decision that no enlightened monarch would make. Instead of actually thinking about the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Understanding Parasocial Attachment Men and women of every age have a particular liking or even obsession with a celebrity or individual they have seen on mass media productions. Whether it s from the news, movies, tv entertainment, music or even sports, these attachments to people are formed because of a fondness of a taken persona of that person. Author, Gayle S. Stever, dives into these parasocial relationships in the field of broadcasting and media and figures out if these affiliations are evolutionary or socially mediated behaviors in his article Evolutionary Theory and Reactions to Mass Media: Understanding Parasocial Attachment. At the end there was a sizeable reference list in MLA format. When it comes to the methods of this particular field, aesthetic interpretation, criticism and rhetorical analysis are the most common techniques. This article follows the more aesthetic interpretation path, meaning Stever interprets the reason behind our parasocial attachments to people of higher status while using science. His values in this method however are a little similar to the values of a normal humanities paper. Traditional values include beauty, morality, importance, uniqueness, and impactfulness. Stever s values follow along the lines of importance and morality. He feels that knowing the truth behind these behaviors is important for future knowledge which is shown in the quote Although most case examples of parasocial attachment appeared to support positive functioning, in some cases parasocial attachments can be problematic (Stever ... Before the attack, the United States kept a low profile on International affairs, and concentrated on the domestic affairs at hand. This tragic moment in American history forever remembered. In 1940, the United States was extremely against this animosity and reacted with trade embargoes and monetary approvals. FDR had talked with the Dutch and the British to see if they would agree upon embargoes on Japan. Franklin Delano Roosevelt did not want a conflict in the pacific as the United States was not prepared for war. For instance, the oil embargo that was organized between the British, the Dutch, and the United States was about 90% of Japan s imported oil. [3] This upset Japan because without oil or fuel their military and war efforts would come to a complete stop. Beginning of the year in 1941, FDR decided that the Pacific Fleet would move to Hawaii from San Diego in the hopes of discouraging the invasion of the Japanese. Negotiations between Washington and Tokyo had been going on for several months without a resolution. On July 2, 1941, the Imperial High Command was tired of negotiations with the United States and needed to proceed with their development within Asia even with the embargo in place and meaning it would be at a high risk of war with the US. [4] Therefore, the Japanese had deceived the United States, ignored the arbitration, and moved forward with their plans. The United States had hoped that this restrictive embargo would halt Japan s assault as negotiations had continued well into November. It is an upbeat folk song by Harry McClintock from 1928 about his hobo days. This is fitting for Everett, Pete, and Delmar s current situation. All of the music in the movie is either traditional or from the Great Depression era. The music selections help to authenticate the movie for the era more than the realness of the story based on an epic poem. Man of Constant Sorrow is what the men sing to Mr. Lund to get money; he loves the song and has it played on numerous radio stations. The song is a foundation to the film as it is sung twice and in the background two more times as an instrumental version. This is important with movies in general to have a song to connect the movie to and a movie to connect a song. The movie almost feels like musical at some points only except that no one breaks out in song. When Everett and the others go to his house to get Penny s ring, they are met by Sheriff Cooley and his gang that are ready to hang them for escaping prison. Cardiorespiratory endurance is a measurement of how well your heart, lungs, and muscles work together to keep your body active over an extended period of time. For a touch football player to be successful in the middle position several components of fitness are needed for the player to be effective. One of the important fitness components for touch football is coordination. Coordination is needed for all positions in touch football to help your nervous system and your muscles to work together, so that you can perform specific movements smoothly and accurately (Amezdroz, 2004). Examples of coordination in touch football are hand eye coordination whilst catching and passing the ball and touching an opposing player. Also, foot and leg coordination whilst running up the field and back on side. In recent fitness tests coordination is measured by the alternate hand rebound test. As a matter of fact, the power sector has been decentralized and the electricity market is now a competitive market. Thus a transmission expansion plan cannot follow the traditional planning criteria anymore. As a result, new techniques are developed in order to solve the transmission expansion problem TEP. Usually different optimization methods are used to solve the TEP: genetic algorithm (GA), Tabu search (TS) and several heuristic and metaheuristic techniques. Those are called static scenarios. Dynamic scenarios are the one based on game theory which represents the behavior ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The model is applied to the Garver six bus system for testing. A form of non cooperative games is defined in [5]. The concept of reference transmission network (RTN) is introduced. The RTN is considered to be the sub game perfect Nash equilibrium of the dynamic game. The game agents in this paper are the planner and all the power producers. Transmission expansion plans are proposed by the investors and the planner chooses one possible feasible plan. For each plan a multi stage game is performed and every stage is formed by a number of spot market sessions. At every spot market an auction is organized and both power producers and consumers participate and bid. The Nash equilibrium at each stage is computed using diagonalization algorithm. As an illustrative example, A 3 bus system is used. In [6] a transmission expansion search methodology is proposed using multiple optimization techniques. Once the optimal TEP is obtained, the costs of the included projects are evaluated considering the bargaining solution of the right of ways between investor and land owner, the asset cost and the level of effort of the corresponding agent (investor). A principle agent game where the principle is the central planner and the agent is the investor is used to model the expected utility of the game participants. [23]A deterministic model is used in a situation where the result can be established straightforwardly from a series of conditions. It has no stochastic elements and both the input and the outputs are determined conclusively. On the other hand a stochastic model is one where the cause and effect relationship is stochastically or randomly determined. Therefore the system having stochastic element is generally not solved analytically and hence there are several cases for which it is difficult to build an intuitive perspective. During this time, there were advancements in technology, an abundance of natural resources, cheap labor and investment capital. Industrialization led to the development of factories, which led to the increase in jobs for many immigrants. These advancements clearly overshadowed the harsh working conditions for many of these factory workers. In 1911, The Triangle Factory Fire was a clear representation of the dangers when the focus is on cheap labor production instead of the wellbeing of the factory workers. The Triangle Waist Company, manufactured women s clothing and was located in the heart of Manhattan. This company, owned by Max Blanck and Isaac Harris, occupied the floors of the Asch Building. The factory attracted many people in desperate need of work. This consequently led to the workers being taken advantage of by paying them very low wages. They often worked excessively long hours without adequate compensation, and the safety or work conditions were also of no importance. Around the same time other factories were actually standing up and protesting the harsh working conditions in what is known as sweatshops.
