Describe any exposure you have to a global environment (business or personal) and what do you
expect from this class based on your level of exposure? What are some key differences between
leadership and geo–global leadership? Why is it important to study global leadership?
I have travelled to many countries in before residing in the United States, the greater portion of my
exposure in regard to global environment, I would say; was in the United States. In Nigeria, female
smoking and drinking are considered as deviant behaviors, but not illegal. While in the Western
world, they are considered as societal norms.
I will expect that at the end of this class, my acceptability to others' culture would have increased,

What are some things you will need to consider as you plan for this trip? What are some things you
will need to consider as you prepare for the meeting?
First and foremost, I ensure that all my personal belongings required for the trip are in place. Then,
will visit the US Department of State website for resourceful information about the country that I
will be travelling to. The State department provides US citizens with information and issues travel
warning for countries that are deemed dangerous and unstable.
My next arrangement will be to get in touch with someone who can assist me 24/7. There are
companies who provides people with interpreters, who are culturally knowledgeable about my
proposed destination. They can also provide help because, in a crisis situation, I will want to get as
much information as possible to enable my decision making.
The reason that my company will want to send me to a foreign land is to profit from the global
environment. To achieve that purpose, it will be very important for me to learn the history, and
customs of the said destination. I will make flexibility and cultural adaptation to be my guiding
principles. Business manners and methods, religious customs, dietary practices, humor, and
acceptable dress code will be among the factors that I will be putting into

The Cabin Of An Airplane
It 's very easy to fall sick these days especially when you 're traveling and you should try and find
out as much as possible about how you can prevent this from happening to you. Naturally, it 's quite
scary to contemplate some of the stories that we 've come across in the New England journal in the
recent past, about airline passengers who have passed on some really worrisome diseases to others
who are travelling with them. The cabin of an airplane is a closed space and in this environment
there 's a lot of chance for germs to multiply and spread. Some are even potentially hazardous like
E_coli, salmo–nella, coli–form, rota–virus. Even the common cold is not exempt as well as MRSA,
which is very well known form of staph. You might think that these germs can be contracted from
any place that has lots of people passing through, but the fact is that busier a place is, the more likely
it is to have plenty of germs. But then, we can 't possibly keep ourselves away from these places
where germs breed so easily because for practical purposes we need to travel and even go to places
that have heavy crowds like shops and movie halls. So what can you do to prevent picking up these
germs if you simply have to travel or visit these places? Experts give a few pointers below on how
to stay away from the germs and stay healthy. Sitting at the front of the plane. "Try and get a seat
near the front, because there 's better air flow from the ventilation systems here," advises

This program is a study abroad program through the Center for Global and Intercultural Studies

I first heard about this program through my Bridge Peer Advisor when she was talking about the trip

I should look into it. The next next I took was to look on the CGIS website where I found this

Persuasive Essay On Commuting
Commuting to school can sometimes be a good thing or a bad thing. Some days, you will love it and
other days you will hate it.
Personally, I have mix feelings about commuting. Some days, I do want to live on campus because I
believe it will make my life easier. I'm not entirely fond of traveling back and forth from home to
school all the time. It is tiring and annoying.
I live in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, which is 45 minutes away from Temple University. I wake up
every morning to catch the Septa bus, so it can take me to the train station. I have to get up early, so
I can arrive to class on time.
To get to Temple University, I have to take two trains to get there which is the Market–Frankford
Line and the Broad Street Line. I travel to the suburbs to the city every week and sometimes the
weekend as well. Then, I have to travel back home, when I'm done with school or hanging out with
friends on campus. I travel back and forth every day, which is a struggle.
The transportation system doesn't help all the time and sometimes makes commuting even more
difficult. Septa is every commuter nightmare sometimes because sometimes the buses and trains are
running late and students will come late to their class, all out of breath because they ran to get to
class on time. Currently, I'm running to my 10 a.m. class all the time now because the trains are
running late or it stops in the middle of nowhere for no reason.
Sometimes Septa workers will go on strike, but that

multibillionaires. And the population of Chinese millionaires is expected to grow steadily by a rate
between 7.3 and 9.7%. However, it should also be noticeable that only 1 of every 1400 Chinese is

Who Is Christopher Columbus The True American Hero
Ibn Battuta, the Moroccan scholar who traveled to the medieval world once said, "Traveling. It
leaves you speechless, then it turns you into a storyteller," (Battuta). Travelers have crossed across
many different boundaries, have found many different places and all have come back with their
version of events that go down as historical record. Expeditions to far away lands have occurred
throughout history and each traveler has his own unique perspective about what truly happened
during their travels. The truth often lies somewhere in between all of the glamour and praise that the
travelers recount about themselves; they are truly the heroes of their own stories. On the surface
level, these stories are presented as tales of heroism but often times, we overlook details that are too
harsh or de–rail the narrative set forth by the travel. Nevertheless these stories are brought back and
presented as fact to the rest of the world but it is important that we take each story with a grain of
salt and examine closely the differences between fact and fiction. Speaking on Christopher
Columbus, the "true American hero", the image presented to us as children is far different than what
the actual man was. As children, we were taught that Christopher Columbus was a heroic man with
great values and ethics; he "sailed the ocean blue, in the year 1492." It is a true fish story, where you
tell someone that you got a five–pound Bass in the river while in reality you caught a half–pound
Sunny.

"Into the Wild" made in 2007 was a great movie involving my essential question in this anthology.
How the human mind reacts to being outside and traveling to new locations and studying new
culture. The movie is a true story about a recent college graduate student named, Christopher
McCandless, who travels around the United States in search of himself. He graduated from Emory
University in the top of his class. Christopher had everything coming from a wealthy family and was
gifted to be really smart. He sets off on a journey abandoning everything and lives his life on the

and parents' sordid and abusive relationship. He lives in Alaska for a couple of month reflecting his
travel across the nation. He soon realizes that it is time to cross back home, but fails from a raging
river. He eats berries because of lack of food but realizes that the berries are poisonous. Shortly he
dies of starvation, but towards his death. He concludes that happiness is only shared with others. As
his journey went on he reflected on the many times he was happy. All of those times were when he
was with his friends on the road. He changed being outside on the road, but felt pure and happy

The Roles Of Travel Writing: Marco Polo And John Mandeville
Between the fourth and the fifteenth centuries, three distinct kinds of travelers traversed the vast and
unfamiliar landscapes of Europe: the Scholar, the Crusader, and the Pilgrim. In the centuries of
Travel writing that followed, these categories have been seen as giving way to each other. The
pilgrim gave way to the merchant, the explorer and the philosopher.Compared to our current "small
world," the lands and cultures across oceans and over the next mountain range were a source of
mystery to people of the earlier centuries. The narratives of Marco Polo and John Mandeville marked
the beginning of a new impulse in the late middle ages and transformed the traditional paradigms of
pilgrimage and crusade into new forms attentive to experience ... Show more content on

The study of stereotypes , thus, became very important as it relied upon the relationship between the
insider and the other. Space and spatiality as a concept has always been considered as central to the
concept of power , identity and modernity. In a collection of essays by Shirley Ardener in 1981, she
argued that patriarchy flourishes by creating a ' social map' on the basis of certain ground rules of
behaviour that construct certain spaces as 'feminine' and others as 'masculine' and by allocating a
particular role to each on the basis of the activities that these spaces entail. 'Private ' or the domestic,
as it is called, as the arena of women and Public as that of men was a distinction that was not clearly
demarcated before the advent of nineteenth century but the ostracization of females and the
restrictions put on their mobility seems to be a phenomenon existing since before nineteenth
century. 'The discourse of 'individualism' (even though the concept was not as popular for females as
it was for men , that too, for 'white men of property') in the nineteenth century , however,
encouraged increasing number of women to understand mobility as a means to reimagine
themselves as 'citizens of the world' 'free' to pursue their own itineraries and to re imagine their
identities away from the spectacles of femininity restricting them.' The father or the 'father figure'
was the pivot on which the patriarchal institution of family hinged. Sigmund Freud speculated in his
psychoanalysis that ' a great part of pleasure of travel lies in the fulfillment of these early wishes to
escape the family and especially the father'. ( Travel, therefore, for these women was viewed as
transgressive and an act of rebellion against control and vigilance. The search for a new transparent
space where reconstruction of identity could be

Safety Issues for Women Traveling Solo

Women are frequently warned about independent international travel. Unfortunately, it is true that
women are much more likely than men to be the victims of sexual harassment and sexual assault. In
virtually every country I have visited I heard from female travelers and volunteers who had been
subjected to "frequent come–ons, unwanted touching, or inappropriate comments," in the words of
one Peace Corps volunteer. Harassment and assault range from verbal harassment, to crude
propositions, to groping (especially by men in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(In India, a toe ring on your second toe means you're not available.) Many volunteers learn strategies
from local women. In Mexico, for example, women often sit together, even if they don't know each

"Be careful about letting your guard down while on vacation." "Travel with a group at night."
"Before you leave home, talk to other women who have traveled in the countries you plan to visit."
"The in–country program director cautioned us against looking or staring at the men for too long at a
time; this could be misinterpreted since the women in the local villages were taught not to make eye
contact with the men." "Be ready to give up some freedoms that you are used to at home." "Females
must take care with their dealings with any male older than 14 and younger than 75. I was often
misunderstood at first and didn't realize that plain speaking and looking at a man directly when
speaking to him could be misinterpreted as flirting. I learned quickly to be very formal and to
always involve several people in any conversation." "Don't be afraid to ask about the security
situation where you are posted and find out about any prior incidents that may have occurred in the
area." "When it comes to your life, you can't be too cautious." No matter what you do or don't do,

Marco Polo Comparison Essay
The prolific writings of both Marco Polo and Ibn Battuta give accounts of early world travel and
exploration during the middle ages, these two explorers' managed to travel the length of the
Eurasian empire, while creating written accounts of their adventure. When comparing these two
individual writings on their travels and perception of cultures, religion and trade also their reasons
for travel it is imperative that we acknowledge that these two individuals came from very different
back rounds Polo a Christian and Battuta a Muslim. Thus their accounts and view points maybe very
different in retrospect to one another due to a religious, and cultural bias when exploring these areas.
In order to understand these two travelers it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Polo's view on this was made clear when he states that the kings was so "Lecherous that I assure you
that he has fully 300 wives"5. It is important to note the language used in the second quote which
shows how he felt about this king's indulgement as lewdness and lust in a way regarded as
distasteful. This was with out a shock to polo who came from a Christian back round where such an
act was considered unacceptable and blasphemous. Ibn Battuta also mentions slaves in the text
many times through his travels; his view of slave trade contradicts that of Polo's. This is evident
when Battuta was given his first "hospitality Gift"6 of a young male in Turkey, where he also bought
and sold slaves. This comparison is in sharp contrast to Polo's view on slavery for trade where
Battuta seemed to accept this as normal practice within his culture and even seemed it fit to deem it
as a gift. This comparison shows how cultures within the middle ages held very different beliefs and
guild lines for individuals of various ideologies, what interested and was seen as acceptable practice
of slave trade for Battuta, was on the other hand very shocking to Polo. A comparison of the travels
of both Battuta and Polo show that both men came in contact with great leaders of Eurasia which
shaped their travels and lead them to seek control and obtain control over the Mongolian empire
now known as China in

Advantages Of Travelling Alone
On the whole, as a Westerner (and usually comparably rich, even as an YBP) you can make all the
smart choices about transport. You will never have to take a flight with the airline that has the worst
safety record on that continent. You will never have to get into a taxi where the limping car has
clearly never been serviced and where the driver smells strongly of whisky. You are traveling for
pleasure and can always say no.
But happily, such experiences are few and far between. We may all come from different countries,
but on the whole, we all still want to live well and safely. Undoubtedly, life can feel more cheap in
some countries than others, but if you plan ahead and choose to take the smart options, you can

However, there are some considerations to bear in mind before jetting off abroad.
Here's a mixture of pros and cons to bear in mind when considering study abroad (here's a hint
though – I believe that the PROS totally outweigh the CONS, naturally!):
PRO – You Can Experience a Foreign Culture
There is nothing like having your own experience of travel to feel like you are really living. It is all
very well to admire the plains of South Africa in a film, or to climb Amazonian waterfalls in your
imagination when you read a book, but there really is nothing like being there in person. Travel can
surprise all your senses, often all at once, and it can be a real thrill to immerse yourself in the
customs and culture of other people.
PRO – Learn A New Language
If you have some basic Spanish, why not enhance it with a few months in Barcelona? Or hone your
French in Paris, Mauritius or Martinique? There are endless opportunities for improving a language
or learning a new one from scratch. Just remember – there is no better way to learn a language well
than by chatting to locals every day. You will pick up authentic words, gain fluency and improve
your confidence – so dive

Analyzing Webster's Definition Of A Vacation
Taking time to escape reality is indeed necessary for finding serenity within yourself. Homosapiens
often do this by removing themselves from their normal setting and going to an unfamiliar area. This
is referred to as a getaway, recreation, or a sojourn. These three terms essentially all mean the
familiar term "vacation." Webster's definition of vacation is simple:
1: an extended period of recreation, especially one spent away from home or in traveling.
A definition such as this one is quite broad and can imply that there are many scenarios which can
be classified as a vacation. Read further for enlightenment.
How to Identify Vacations
To even be considered a vacation, the period of time spent away from home setting must be, at least,
one weekend. Weekend getaways allow just enough time for the mind and ... Show more content on

This is usually done by families with infuriating small children that whine about being hungry or
having to use the restroom for the fifth time in approximately one hour. The most common road trips
would be driving through all fifty states, visiting each national park, driving from coast to coast or
along one coast. To cope with the amount of driving required for this type of vacation, families will
often stay at a hotel for the night after a day's worth of driving. If done by a group of friends with no
responsibility of youngsters, driving non stop throughout the night is typically done by switching
drivers every three hours or so.
These are only a few ways to undergo vacations. As said earlier, the definition of vacation is vaguely
stated and can implies that there are many scenarios in which it can be classified. Whether you call it

expect. The fact that I was travelling with other children in my own unique cultural situation, many
of whom were fluent in the native language, however, gave me great comfort in venturing outside
my personal realm of familiarity. Easing my transition into the foreign land, many of them willingly
offered their assistance whenever I was struggling to communicate or comprehend information.

Just as Malcolm X who had shed his personal attire for traditional white towels in an environment
where "you could be a king or a peasant and no one would know", I had temporarily stripped myself
of my external Western context by entering a setting that would see superficially not as an adopted
girl with white parents, but as an indistinguishable Korean. (Malcolm X 371) At first, when I was
guarded by the cover provided by peers, I embraced this sense of unity from a distance, indulging in
the fact that nobody notably labeled me as different based on my physical appearance. However, as
Malcolm X's travels show, no matter how hard you try, it is impossible to completely discard of your
primary context when venturing into previously unexplored territories. For me, this revelation
became clearly evident when I was forcibly removed from my veil of collective solidarity when
physically separated from my friend group. While Malcolm X wrestled with standing out as a
foreigner despite his role as Muslim minister back home, I struggled heavily with establishing an
identity due to my inability to speak the Korean language. In this way, I faced the same sort of
grappling with a double consciousness that can often be seen manifested in the complex struggle of
African–American in their quest for

Personal Narrative Essay: A Trip To Dublin
Sitting in my room here in Denmark and looking out at the grey clouds and few sunbeams from the
sky. It reminds me of the student trip with my class a few weeks ago. To travel from a place to
another is somehow always special for me. I think it is interesting that I can go into a plane and
some hours later I am a new place. Sometimes the destination is very different from the one I came
from. This time it was Dublin who had called me. Actually, not only me but my whole class and
belonging teachers. To travel alone or with someone has a lot to say about the trip, I think. If you
travelled the exact same place, time and destination but once by yourself and another time with
someone, it would almost be to different trips if you ask me. In my eyes that is very beautiful and of
significance to remember. In other words, it can give you a wide perspective on travelling, yourself
but also life in general.
That we were going to Dublin, was not our biggest wish, but the fact that we could travel and have
some quality time together was very great. The week before going to Dublin something sad
happened. Our English teacher who we should have travelled with, was involved in an accident.
That meant that we first of all were very sorry about our teacher's situation. But we did also wonder

Into The Wild Feature Article Analysis
Many travel articles are presented in today's media varying relative to their target audiences thus,
there objectives to entertain, inform or sell holiday destinations. While Men's Health and Gourmet
Traveler share the similarity of having travel articles, their objectives vary relative to their target
audiences. Men's Health's India article (June 2008) by Dugald Jellie is male orientated, for ages
from mid–twenties to early forties, relatable to men with active and adventurous lifestyles. Readers
can afford eight dollars ninety–nine per month on this item, however, does not categories them as

Attracting over 238,000 readers (BAUER MEDIA PTY LIMITED , 2016), Gourmet Traveler's Into
the Wild feature article aims to the 'sell' the holiday destination rather than entertain readers as done
in Men's Health's India article. Rowe captures specific details to intrigue and allow readers to be
encapsulated by this luxurious holiday destination. This is clear when Rowe describes the "...pan
roasted snapper" and "delicate crayfish sandwiches" along with the lodge which "...uses local
limestone, recycled timbers and glass in its construction." Contrarily, India is weighted towards
humor and entertainment, giving the reader enjoyment while experiencing Jellie's journey. Unlike
Into the Wild, India is not a feature article which is why Jellie uses succinct methods of hooking the
readers. One method is the use of unordinary starting sentences. This is shown at the start of the
article when Jellie opens with "Thank God for diphenoxylate." This has the effect of stimulating the
curiosity of the readers as they want to know the meaning of this sentence. Further, humour
expressed is another prominent technique to maintain and reader's attention. This is evident when
Jellie describes the camel's "...knees are way too knobby to model swimwear." While both articles
use different techniques, they maintain the objective to attract there target

My Experience
Not many people get the opportunity to travel, let alone travel outside of the country. I was given the
chance to travel to Italy for school and I made sure to take advantage of it. I can confidently say that
my experience abroad changed me as a person. My academic, personal, and professional outlooks
are more clearer than they've ever been. I'm first going to give a brief summary of my trip and my
experiences, and then I'll go over what I was able to take out of my trip personally and academically.
My study abroad consisted of a group of ten other students that all shared the same major as me,
Applied Engineering and Technology. This was a faculty led program so we also had one of our
professors and his wife travel with us. Coming into the trip, I only happened to only know one other
student so I was a bit nervous that I'd be staying with people I hadn't met. My experience began in
Chicago, which happened to be my first time ever being there. I'm originally from southern Illinois,
near St. Louis, and somehow I've never managed to make it up to Chicago, even though the majority
of my friends from school are from there. It was a lovely experience driving through downtown and
being able to fly out of one of the biggest airports in the country. My trip had already brought
unfamiliar territory and I hadn't even left the state yet. After a total of fourteen hours of flying and a
layover in Frankfurt, Germany, we finally landed to our destination of Florence, Italy. The flight
seemed like forever, especially since I got assigned a middle seat on the plane, which was rather
inconvenient. As soon as we landed in the city I was instantly attracted to everything about it. The
buildings, the streets, the people, the smell of the food, it was all amazing to me. My apartment was
sizable and pleasant. I shared with four other students who I became rather close with by the end of
the trip. The apartment was modernized, but still gave off that Italian impression. There wasn't too
much different about it compared to apartments in the United States, except for the bidet toilet and
no air conditioner. Every night we had to keep our windows open so cool air could get in, but it was
still uncomfortably hot. We were required

Essay about American Airlines Competitive Strategy
Evaluate American's 1992 announcement of a new rate structure:
a. What changes did American make?
American Airlines (American) made four fundamental changes to its rates. First, it moved to a four–
tier rate structure; American offered first–class rates and three tiers of coach: full–fare, 21–day
advance purchase and 7–day advance purchase. Overall, it expected to reduce coach fares by 38%
and first–class fares by 20% to 50%. Though full fare coach prices dropped by about 38%, advance–
purchase fares dropped by 6% when compared to the advance purchase tickets already being
offered. Through this fare structure, American also eliminated deep discount tickets. Second,
American eliminated the negotiated discount contracts of many large ... Show more content on

Travel agents therefore are both positively and negatively impacted. Small business customers are
positively impacted by the fare changes. Previously, the higher full fare prices discouraged small
business travel; small businesses would either decide against travel or incur the cost of a Saturday
night stay and purchase a reduced fare ticket. By reducing the full coach fares, small businesses will
be able to purchase more convenient flights at more economical prices. Large businesses, on the
other hand, may be negatively impacted. Since many large businesses had negotiated discount rate
contracts with airlines, the new full coach fare may be higher than these negotiated fares. For large
businesses that did not have negotiated contracts, the fares will be lower than the previous full fare
rate.
Leisure travelers overall will be made better off by the new fare structure. These travelers have more
flexibility and can take advantage of the advance purchase discounts and Saturday–night stay
discounts. An exception to this is leisure travelers who had found "loop holes" in the old fare system
by using "creative ticketing" and waiting for deep discounts. These leisure travelers may pay higher
rates because the deep discounts will no longer be offered.
c. Why did each of American's competitors react to the fare changes the way they did?
Continental, Northwest and United Airlines intended to adopt part of the new fare system.
Continental, because it is in Chapter

I Want To Be Free Essay
I've always felt that that I'm at a constant battle against myself. If I must say, from my personal
experience, I'm struggling to keep myself together. I keep calm outside but on the inside, I just feel a
rush and craziness. I want to be free from the people who are judgemental, to be at peace, to be at a
place where you can listen the chirping of birds, listen to the gurgling of river. I quite like it when
I'm alone drown in my own thoughts. When I say, "I want to be free" I mean "I have no limits, I can
do whatever I want". After working for 3 years, I was burnt out at work and wanted to rediscover
myself and I could only think of travelling. But I always had this feeling that something is wrong.
Neither I'd the money nor intention of wanderlust. I was just lost or maybe I want freedom of
expression without being ending up in jail. I don't know it yet. But one thing was sure and that was:
I want to experience the world through the eyes of others. Living the lives of others or living with

Porter's 3 Competitive Strategies In The Case Of Etihad...
Porter's 3 generic strategies is a tool of measuring whether a company is following cost leadership,
differentiation or focus strategy approaches. In cost leadership approach, the company is having a
competitive advantage by offering competitive low prices. In the case of Etihad, the company is not
offering a low cost strategy because they want to be characterized as a prestigious airline that has
competitive advantage among others.
Differentiation is the factor where Porter analyzes the industry as having different offers from the
others. In the case of Etihad Airlines, it is differentiated from their competitors because of

outlook of the world. Wariuki starts off as being a very poor but very happy man until he gets
humiliated by his father in law, Douglas Jones, for not being wealthy enough to pay for a wedding at

Traveling Is The World 's Piggy Bank
Traveling Effects
Going to a new place can be scary and exciting, while visiting relatives can be familiar and .
Traveling has many effects overall The point is the sky is the limit; traveling gives personal insight
into the world beyond the bedroom window; it gives us a license to become a citizen of the world.
First, traveling is the world's piggy bank. In the year 2015 a total of 650.8 billion dollars was spent
by domestic and international travelers on leisure ("U.S. Travel Answer Sheet"). For example, the
money spent on those amazing adventures available. Like scuba diving, parasailing, and even trying
new foods. A burger for example will cost more in a different location then it might at home. The
cost of living plays into how much should be saved, depending on the destination. Likewise, the
economy worldwide profits from all the traveling that goes on. The tax revenue for 2015 was 147.9
billion dollars ("U.S. Travel Answer Sheet"). Thus proving traveling is encouraged and a great way
to spend without feeling guilty. Furthermore, it helps build jobs! 15.1 million to be exact in the year
2015 ("U.S. Travel Answer Sheet"). How wonderful it is to be helping the world especially those
third world countries. Tourism is encouraged and it is providing profit for the world instead of just
one country. What a great way to add points to a world citizen license.
Equally, important traveling is life changing. By going outside, the usual area, city, state, country

Qantas Market Segmentation
The airline industry has long attempted to segment the air travel market in order to effectively target
its constituents. The classic airline model consists of First Class, Business Class and Economy, and
the demographics that make up the classes have both similarities and differences to the other classes.
For instance there may be similarities between business class travellers on a particular flight, but
they will not all be travelling for the same reason. An almost–universal characteristic of air travel is
that customers do not fly for the sake of flying; the destination is the important element and the
travel is a by–product, a means–to–an–end that involves the necessity of an aircraft that gets the
customer from point A to point B. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recently Qantas has partnered up with Emirates in an effort to channel Europe–bound travellers
through Dubai International Airport in a mutually beneficially arrangement, an example of
business–to–business geographic segmentation marketing. Qantas encourages tourism by
broadcasting the same television and print advertisement to both international and domestic
customers with iconic images of Australia. This is a marketing strategy that serves multiple
purposes, it stimulates Australian tourism abroad while firmly associating Australia with Qantas and
also encourages 'brand loyalty' from Australians who wish to support their country. Because of the
large variety of airlines both internationally and domestically, Qantas has marketed themselves
towards service; they are the only "full–service" airline in Australia.
Demographic
The demographic characteristics of customers can be broken down by the class they choose to fly.
First Class is chiefly attracting high–income earners, who are concerned with a high level of service
and enjoy an air of exclusivity. These are knows as "comfort seekers" and they can include business
magnates, federal politicians, sporting stars and a–list celebrities. The First Class market is highly
concentrated; less than 3% of passengers will choose to fly First Class but those customers make up
close to 30% in revenue for the airline (Keen and Strand 2007). Because the focus is on service and

What Is The Purpose Of Ibn Battuta Essay
After Ibn Battuta returned to Fez in 1354, Abu Inan Faris, the sultan of Morrocco, listened to his
report on Mali as well as his other adventures and ordered him to stay in Fez. The sultan wanted to
have these stories written down for the amusement of his family and others. So Ibn Battuta was
commanded to dictate an account of the cities which he had seen in his travel, and of the interesting
events which had clung to his memory, and of the rulers of countries whom he had met.
The Sultan hired a young writer – Ibn Juzayy al–Kalabi – a young man Ibn Battuta had met three
years earlier in Granada. Ibn Battuta dictated an account of his journeys to Ibn Juzzay, who was to
put the stories into the proper form of a travel book. The full title of ... Show more content on

While copies circulated earlier, it was French and English scholars who eventually brought The
Travels of Ibn Battuta the international attention it deserved. Ibn Battuta took joy in discovering new
experiences, and exercised amazing perseverance and fortitude to complete extensive travels and

traveled within a familiar Muslim culture, meeting like–minded people wherever he went. Ibn
Battuta told more about himself, the people he met, and the importance of the positions he held.
Altogether, Ibn Battuta covered about 75,000 miles in 29 years, meeting with 60 rulers in Asia and

What are some key differences between leadership and geo–global leadership? Why is it important to study global leadership? I have travelled to many countries in before residing in the United States, the greater portion of my exposure in regard to global environment, I would say; was in the United States. In Nigeria, female smoking and drinking are considered as deviant behaviors, but not illegal. While in the Western world, they are considered as societal norms. • 5. The Cabin Of An Airplane It 's very easy to fall sick these days especially when you 're traveling and you should try and find out as much as possible about how you can prevent this from happening to you. Naturally, it 's quite scary to contemplate some of the stories that we 've come across in the New England journal in the recent past, about airline passengers who have passed on some really worrisome diseases to others who are travelling with them. The cabin of an airplane is a closed space and in this environment there 's a lot of chance for germs to multiply and spread. Some are even potentially hazardous like E_coli, salmo–nella, coli–form, rota–virus. Even the common cold is not exempt as well as MRSA, which is very well known form of staph. You might think that these germs can be contracted from any place that has lots of people passing through, but the fact is that busier a place is, the more likely it is to have plenty of germs. But then, we can 't possibly keep ourselves away from these places where germs breed so easily because for practical purposes we need to travel and even go to places that have heavy crowds like shops and movie halls. So what can you do to prevent picking up these germs if you simply have to travel or visit these places? Experts give a few pointers below on how to stay away from the germs and stay healthy. Sitting at the front of the plane. "Try and get a seat near the front, because there 's better air flow from the ventilation systems here," advises ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Personally, I have mix feelings about commuting. Some days, I do want to live on campus because I believe it will make my life easier. I'm not entirely fond of traveling back and forth from home to school all the time. It is tiring and annoying. I live in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, which is 45 minutes away from Temple University. I wake up every morning to catch the Septa bus, so it can take me to the train station. I have to get up early, so I can arrive to class on time. To get to Temple University, I have to take two trains to get there which is the Market–Frankford Line and the Broad Street Line. I travel to the suburbs to the city every week and sometimes the weekend as well. Then, I have to travel back home, when I'm done with school or hanging out with friends on campus. I travel back and forth every day, which is a struggle. The transportation system doesn't help all the time and sometimes makes commuting even more difficult. Septa is every commuter nightmare sometimes because sometimes the buses and trains are running late and students will come late to their class, all out of breath because they ran to get to class on time. Currently, I'm running to my 10 a.m. class all the time now because the trains are running late or it stops in the middle of nowhere for no reason. • 26. Who Is Christopher Columbus The True American Hero Ibn Battuta, the Moroccan scholar who traveled to the medieval world once said, "Traveling. It leaves you speechless, then it turns you into a storyteller," (Battuta). Travelers have crossed across many different boundaries, have found many different places and all have come back with their version of events that go down as historical record. Expeditions to far away lands have occurred throughout history and each traveler has his own unique perspective about what truly happened during their travels. The truth often lies somewhere in between all of the glamour and praise that the travelers recount about themselves; they are truly the heroes of their own stories. On the surface level, these stories are presented as tales of heroism but often times, we overlook details that are too harsh or de–rail the narrative set forth by the travel. Nevertheless these stories are brought back and presented as fact to the rest of the world but it is important that we take each story with a grain of salt and examine closely the differences between fact and fiction. Speaking on Christopher Columbus, the "true American hero", the image presented to us as children is far different than what the actual man was. As children, we were taught that Christopher Columbus was a heroic man with great values and ethics; he "sailed the ocean blue, in the year 1492." It is a true fish story, where you tell someone that you got a five–pound Bass in the river while in reality you caught a half–pound Sunny. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Roles Of Travel Writing: Marco Polo And John Mandeville Between the fourth and the fifteenth centuries, three distinct kinds of travelers traversed the vast and unfamiliar landscapes of Europe: the Scholar, the Crusader, and the Pilgrim. In the centuries of Travel writing that followed, these categories have been seen as giving way to each other. The pilgrim gave way to the merchant, the explorer and the philosopher.Compared to our current "small world," the lands and cultures across oceans and over the next mountain range were a source of mystery to people of the earlier centuries. The narratives of Marco Polo and John Mandeville marked the beginning of a new impulse in the late middle ages and transformed the traditional paradigms of pilgrimage and crusade into new forms attentive to experience ... Space and spatiality as a concept has always been considered as central to the concept of power , identity and modernity. In a collection of essays by Shirley Ardener in 1981, she argued that patriarchy flourishes by creating a ' social map' on the basis of certain ground rules of behaviour that construct certain spaces as 'feminine' and others as 'masculine' and by allocating a particular role to each on the basis of the activities that these spaces entail. 'Private ' or the domestic, as it is called, as the arena of women and Public as that of men was a distinction that was not clearly demarcated before the advent of nineteenth century but the ostracization of females and the restrictions put on their mobility seems to be a phenomenon existing since before nineteenth century. 'The discourse of 'individualism' (even though the concept was not as popular for females as it was for men , that too, for 'white men of property') in the nineteenth century , however, encouraged increasing number of women to understand mobility as a means to reimagine themselves as 'citizens of the world' 'free' to pursue their own itineraries and to re imagine their identities away from the spectacles of femininity restricting them.' The father or the 'father figure' was the pivot on which the patriarchal institution of family hinged. Sigmund Freud speculated in his psychoanalysis that ' a great part of pleasure of travel lies in the fulfillment of these early wishes to escape the family and especially the father'. Marco Polo Comparison Essay The prolific writings of both Marco Polo and Ibn Battuta give accounts of early world travel and exploration during the middle ages, these two explorers' managed to travel the length of the Eurasian empire, while creating written accounts of their adventure. When comparing these two individual writings on their travels and perception of cultures, religion and trade also their reasons for travel it is imperative that we acknowledge that these two individuals came from very different back rounds Polo a Christian and Battuta a Muslim. Polo's view on this was made clear when he states that the kings was so "Lecherous that I assure you that he has fully 300 wives"5. It is important to note the language used in the second quote which shows how he felt about this king's indulgement as lewdness and lust in a way regarded as distasteful. This was with out a shock to polo who came from a Christian back round where such an act was considered unacceptable and blasphemous. Ibn Battuta also mentions slaves in the text many times through his travels; his view of slave trade contradicts that of Polo's. This is evident when Battuta was given his first "hospitality Gift"6 of a young male in Turkey, where he also bought and sold slaves. This comparison is in sharp contrast to Polo's view on slavery for trade where Battuta seemed to accept this as normal practice within his culture and even seemed it fit to deem it as a gift. This comparison shows how cultures within the middle ages held very different beliefs and guild lines for individuals of various ideologies, what interested and was seen as acceptable practice of slave trade for Battuta, was on the other hand very shocking to Polo. My Korean Adoption The last personal narrative that, in a way, continues where the last left off, is a trip that I took with a group of other adoptees to Korea over the summer of my freshman year. Being the first time I had visited my birth–country since infancy I was undeniably nervous, not knowing what exactly what to expect. The fact that I was travelling with other children in my own unique cultural situation, many of whom were fluent in the native language, however, gave me great comfort in venturing outside my personal realm of familiarity. However, as Malcolm X's travels show, no matter how hard you try, it is impossible to completely discard of your primary context when venturing into previously unexplored territories. For me, this revelation became clearly evident when I was forcibly removed from my veil of collective solidarity when physically separated from my friend group. I was given the chance to travel to Italy for school and I made sure to take advantage of it. I can confidently say that my experience abroad changed me as a person. My academic, personal, and professional outlooks are more clearer than they've ever been. I'm first going to give a brief summary of my trip and my experiences, and then I'll go over what I was able to take out of my trip personally and academically. My study abroad consisted of a group of ten other students that all shared the same major as me, Applied Engineering and Technology. This was a faculty led program so we also had one of our professors and his wife travel with us. Coming into the trip, I only happened to only know one other student so I was a bit nervous that I'd be staying with people I hadn't met. My experience began in Chicago, which happened to be my first time ever being there. I'm originally from southern Illinois, near St. Louis, and somehow I've never managed to make it up to Chicago, even though the majority of my friends from school are from there. It was a lovely experience driving through downtown and being able to fly out of one of the biggest airports in the country. My trip had already brought unfamiliar territory and I hadn't even left the state yet. After a total of fourteen hours of flying and a layover in Frankfurt, Germany, we finally landed to our destination of Florence, Italy. The flight seemed like forever, especially since I got assigned a middle seat on the plane, which was rather inconvenient. As soon as we landed in the city I was instantly attracted to everything about it. The buildings, the streets, the people, the smell of the food, it was all amazing to me. My apartment was sizable and pleasant. I shared with four other students who I became rather close with by the end of the trip. The apartment was modernized, but still gave off that Italian impression. Overall, it expected to reduce coach fares by 38% and first–class fares by 20% to 50%. Travel agents therefore are both positively and negatively impacted. Small business customers are positively impacted by the fare changes. Previously, the higher full fare prices discouraged small business travel; small businesses would either decide against travel or incur the cost of a Saturday night stay and purchase a reduced fare ticket. For large businesses that did not have negotiated contracts, the fares will be lower than the previous full fare rate. Leisure travelers overall will be made better off by the new fare structure. These travelers have more flexibility and can take advantage of the advance purchase discounts and Saturday–night stay discounts. An exception to this is leisure travelers who had found "loop holes" in the old fare system by using "creative ticketing" and waiting for deep discounts. These leisure travelers may pay higher rates because the deep discounts will no longer be offered. c. Why did each of American's competitors react to the fare changes the way they did?
