This is a presentation I gave to the Research Coordinators in the Federal Ministry of Health, Sudan (04.03.2015).
It included the following topics:
• Overview on the Knowledge Management Cycle and how research fits in it
• Brief historical background on research ethics
• What makes research ethical?
• Definition and examples of scientific misconduct
• How to make your research ethical and avoid scientific misconduct?
Elsevier's Scopus.com upgraded the Journal Analyzer with Source Normalized Impact per Paper (SNIP), which measures a source's contextual impact, and SCImago Journal Rank (SJR), which measures the scientific prestige of scholarly sources.
These indicators will be applied to all journals indexed by Scopus and will be freely available to both subscribers and non-subscribers @ scopus.com and www.journalmetrics.com
Research metrics give a balanced, multi-dimensional view for assessing the value of published research. Based on the depth and breadth of its content, Scopus works with researchers, publishers, bibliometricians, librarians, institutional leaders and others in academia, to offer an evolving basket of metrics that complement more qualitative insights. Throughout Scopus, you can access multiple metrics at the journal, article and author levels.
Intellectual Honesty and Research Integrity.pptxsheelu57
Intellectual honesty is an applied method of problem solving, characterized by an unbiased, honest attitude, which can be demonstrated in a number of different ways including:
Ensuring support for chosen ideologies does not interfere with the pursuit of truth;
Relevant facts and information are not purposefully omitted even when such things may contradict one's hypothesis;
Facts are presented in an unbiased manner, and not twisted to give misleading impressions or to support one view over another;
References, or earlier work, are acknowledged where possible, and plagiarism is avoided. practices.
For individuals, research integrity is an aspect of moral character and experience. It involves above all a commitment to intellectual honesty and personal responsibility for one's actions and to a range of practices that characterize responsible research conduct.

Quality assurance practices in Croatian academic libraries: two case-studiesKornelija Petr
Higher education in the Republic of Croatia has been going through transformative changes ever since the introduction of the Bologna process. The Bologna process in Europe was introduced with the intention to ensure the more comparable, compatible and coherent systems of higher education and one of the extremely important elements of this process is the focus on quality. In Croatia, it was recognized that the higher education institutions need to continuously work on the quality improvement of their educational programs. This need motivated the introduction of the external assessment instrument – both of the educational programs (in the form of the initial and consequent reaccreditation procedures) and the quality assurance systems developed at the institutions of higher education. The Bologna process has also recognized academic libraries as important factors of the higher education institutions’ educational and research excellence. Croatian academic libraries have become more proactive in finding ways to align quality practices with the overall mission and goals of the university. This paper investigates the quality initiatives of two Croatian academic libraries – Library of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Osijek and Zadar University Library, focusing on their methodology and strategic planning.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
