What Is Frank Deford s Attitude Towards Pete Rose
Frank Deford willingly accepts Pete Rose as a hall of fame worthy player, however, by using
phrases like the only person the ban benefits is Pete himself and the best thing that ever
happened to Pete... he argues that even though he lacks the golden title, Rose is more popular
than ever. Deford s report on Rose clearly demonstrates his admiration of the player and helps to
shape the way the readers will view the person in question. Frank Deford establishes ethos as he
gives many examples to show that he is not completely biased. Deford s lack of bias is shown in
phrases like commissioners won t change their minds on Pete Rose... , where he mentions the
commissioners as commissioners and doesn t side with them as if they were fact. He also

The Importance Of Terrorism And Homeland Security
There are always trade offs whenone think about security. The motion of the suspension of

Pi3p
Immunoelectron microscopy has shown that PI3P also localizes on the parasite apicoplast and the
food vacuole6. During the asexual blood stage, the Plasmodium endocytoses hemoglobin (the major
cytosolic constituent of red blood cells) and digests it within the food vacuole. This key catabolic
process is largely attenuated in the presence of kinase inhibitors that block PI3P biosynthesis14.
Further investigation into a PI3P binding proteincalled FCP in P. falciparum reveals a similar
phenotype (a stunted parasite size and defect in hemoglobin digestion) if its PI3P binding domain is
deleted15. Again, this finding demonstrates the importance of deciphering PI3P effector proteins in

An urgent health public concern is raised due to the recent emergence of artemisinin resistance in P.
falciparum17. Artemisinin based combination therapy is the front line antimalarial treatment due to
its fast acting mechanism and high potency against falciparum malaria. Surprisingly, the molecular
target of this potent antimalarial drug has recently been identified to be the PI3 kinase of P.
falciparum18 20. This finding, along with the essentiality and significance of PI3P described
above, accentuates the need to decipher the PI3P regulated cellular functions in P. falciparum. More
importantly, many Plasmodium proteins are unique to the parasite (e.g., apicoplast enzymes and
FCP), providing excellent targets for drug development. All in all, a more thorough comprehension
of the important PI3P functions on the molecular basis allows for an explicit way to develop
preventive and therapeutic interventions against malaria. Identification of PI3P effector proteins
from a systemic point of view may provide a combinatorial drug therapy and strategy to bypass or
delay the development of drug

The Censorship Of The Hip Hop Culture
The Oppressive Language Leading to the Degradation of Woman via The Hip Hop Culture
Today There s a powerful source brainwashing young minority women today, specifically the
language expressed in Rap lyrics which is often embraced by the Hip Hop Culture recently.
These young gems are being conditioned to value their worth centered around hollow, vain, and
degrading measures. The lead directors of these measures are strong, empowered, talented men
who come across as if they detest woman. They disclose and describe detail stories of lifestyles
involving model chicks who degrade themselves for acceptance, money, and opportunity.
Consequently, this behavior leaves impressions for young ladies to follow after; because most
young ladies of minority tap into the hip hop culture as a guide for social behavior. Although, the
Hip Hop culture allows a window into the challenges faced by the black community it has also
been the lead contributor to the desensitization of exploitation towards women due to the negative
messages and images portrayed in music lyrics and music videos today. Symbols of Sexuality
Gone Wrong Adams and Fuller(2006) define misogyny as the hatred or disdain of women. It is an
ideology that reduces women to objects for men s ownership, use, or abuse. This ideology is
widespread and common throughout society (p. 939). The devaluation of young minority women
through the hip hop culture is an epidemic. The word choices conveyed in

Protecting Pesticides In Frogs
Without herbicides, the most widely used class of pesticides in the United States, crop
production and yields would drop, pristine habitat would have to be plowed under to
accommodate more crop acres, and the additional cultivation would result in more soil erosion
(Brandon). Pesticides also protect the crop from rodents and insects who want to feed off of them.
By eliminating the pests, there is a lesser chance of diseases (which the rodents and insects carry
with them). It also ensures the healthiness of the crop and allows us to have popular produce year
round or keep it fresh while traveling around the world to be bought and traded. Despite how
dramatically pesticides minimize health issues, their toxic chemical components are a leading...

Besides adding a melody of croaking in rainforests, frogs help us as well. Frogs around the world
are used for medicinal purposes. Treatments from frogs alone include toxins from the
Panamanian Poison Frog that could be useful for heart disease, painkillers from the Ecuadorian
Poison Frog, anti bacterial compounds from the skin of the African Clawed Frog, and
compounds from the Chinese Large Webbed Bell Toad that dilate blood vessels and so could
treat high blood pressure, and frog glue could repair cartilage (Chivian 18). Through the effects of
pesticides they are stripped of their lives, morphed into devastating forms, and altered until they
can never reproduce again. If people continue to stand by and watch our biodiversity deplete then
our numbers of human population will too. There won t be any more medical, chemical, and
mechanical inspiration given to us by the intelligent creature which is the frog. Instead, we will be
left with another page in the textbook referring to a killed off species;children learning about them
as if they were dinosaurs. The endless malicious bottles of pesticides only make their situation
worse. And the relocation and conservation of frogs won t save them completely so the real

How Did The Levels And Spheres Of Standard Oil Change Society
With reference to the levels and spheres of corporate power discussed in [chapter 3], how did the
power of Standard Oil change society? Was this power exercised in keeping with the social contract
of Rockefeller s era?
With reference to the levels and spheres of corporate power discussed in the chapter, Rockefeller
and the powers of Standard Oil had impacts to the society economically, technologically, politically,
and culturally. When Rockefeller was young, he found an investment that would change him for the
rest of his life. The Cleveland petroleum refinery in which he invested $4,000 in 1863, was still in
its beginning stages. However, Rockefeller was devoted to the oil business, soon becoming one
the most successful men in history. Economic power is the ability of the corporation to influence
events, activities, and people by the virtue of control over resources, particularly property. The
power of Standard Oil changed society by leading the economy to economic growth. The Standard
Oil business had built facilities and employed workers. In turn, this had also increased the
economy to a fuel related industry. As Rockefeller had expanded the business of his company,
Standard Oil also improved and perfected their oil refined technology. In terms of a deeper level of
the power, the Standard Oil business sparked the development in other industries, such as the
automobile industry. The textbook states, However, just as electric lightbulbs were replacing oil
lamps, the

It may seem like everyone and their uncle s mother has an iPhone or iPad, but for the most part,
they are objects of luxury. It s easy to forget the powerful technology that fits inside these little
boxes and we often treat it like something of lesser value. Because of that, it s common to lose

The Advantage By Patrick Lencioni Summary
The six questions required in The Advantage by Patrick Lencioni that create clarity within a
corporation could easily be applied to multiple aspects of theatre [general management companies
(i.e. Daryl Roth), production companies (i.e. Roundabout, MTC), unions and organizations
(BCEFA, AEA), or specific productions (i.e. Bright Star)]. However, I think the questions will be
most fruitful when applied to my professional self: Miranda the Stage Manager. Considering the
position I am in nearing graduation with a terminal theatre degree I need to take my last few
months at school to discover who I am professionally and what I want for my career. Upon

For example, I get internally riled up when I see actors asked to do things outside of their contract.
Most of the actors in Othello are new, uneducated AEA members. Unlike the stage management
program, the CU acting program does not delve into union rules and the actors did not read their
ANTC contract prior to signing it. So, when they are using their personal clothing items in the
shows, I feel the need to tell them that they are contractually owed compensation. Or, when the
director schedules pick up rehearsals on two show days, I get the intense desire to tell the Equity
Deputy that this is expressly forbidden in our contract (especially when I hear the cast complain
of exhaustion before the first show even begins.) While my information may be accurate, I am
genuinely unsure if and when my meddling is appropriate. I, personally, do not like having an
extra, uncompensated rehearsal on a two show day either, but I feel incapable of complaining on
behalf of myself. I spread information about the contract with the actors so that they may decide if

The Differences Between The Arab People Of Arabia And...
Culture in Syria With the United States being involved in Iraq and Afghanistan, we as soldiers
learn a completely new type of culture. We also know that in each of the two countries that their
way of living is different from each other even though their religion is same. This is true throughout
the world and that is what makes it hard for one to understand why there cannot be more cohesion
between countries. The same true of Syria. The way they live day to day and worship is different
from either of the other two countries, despite that they are an Islamic country. The Syrian people
are different in the approach to people, economy, government, and cultural life.
Ethnic and Linguistic The people of Syria draw their influence from several origins over a long
period. The Greeks and Romans ethnic influence was negligible. The people of Arabia and
Mesopotamia left their influence on what we see today. Even though the Turks, Greeks, and
Romans influenced the political and economic structures of Syria, they could not change in the
dominant Arab character of the Syrian people. Ninety percent of the population speaks the official
language, which is Arabic. There three other languages that are spoken in the country and they
include Kurdish, Armenian, and Circassian. Some ancient languages are still present today in the
country. They include Maalua, Aramaic, and Syriac, also English and French are used, but that is

Implementation Of Incremental Development Process
incremental development process makes it the opposite to the rigid requirement needs of the
Waterfall method. Agile methodologies are open to change as the project starts and progresses.
The contrasting requirements need of the two methodologies, is one of the main contrast points
in today s project life cycle processes. There is a constant struggle between the two processes
even in today s business landscape. I have worked at Google as a program manager mobile and
after Google, I worked at a satellite manufacturing company called Space Systems Loral. The
former is a software company and latter is a hardware company. At Google, they have embraced
agile methodologies for software development, as the company is very progressive in nature.
They are also very open to feedback from their users, and therefore agile allows them to take in
product suggestions and address users needs with no predetermined rigid requirements from clients
or users for initial requirements. Work is done in mini project or sprints format and when there is a
need to shift directions, everything already worked on is scrapped if not necessary, and then a
complete reset occurs. Since the project s initial framework is not known at the time the project
starts, the final product can deviate drastically from what was initially envisioned. At Space
Systems Loral, being that it is a hardware satellite manufacturing company, they inherently have to
adopt the waterfall methodology for their needs.

The Dutch Golden Age Of The Dutch Revolt

of The Dutch. During the seventeenth century, the nation experienced an influx that made
the country s name known all over the world. Titled The Dutch Golden Age during which The
Dutch Republic become at the time, one of the most powerful nations in the world in respect to
their economy, liberal arts, and naval military. As this essay progresses, I will continue to discuss
this particular time in history and reveal it s impact on not only itself, but the entire European
continent.
Before discussing how The Dutch s economy increased and how The Dutch Golden Age came to
be, going over the Dutch Revolt would be an ideal place to start considering it s how the Dutch
gained their independence. The first forty three years of the Dutch Revolt also knowns as the
Eighty Years War, was the fight between The Dutch Republic and Spanish Empire. The fight
between the two lasted from 1566 till 1609 until a twelve year truce was signed and The Dutch
Republic finally gained it s hard earned independence. The Dutch revolted against the Spanish King
mainly because the King wanted to tax ten percent. At the time, Holland was one the wealthiest
countries in Europe, thanks to their large population of windmills and the new trading routes with
India and Africa. The country didn t feel that the King needed a profit from them and they rebelled,
beginning the historical Eighty Years War.

Unconventional Approach
Technically RACE 2015 had no headline speaker, but most seems to attach such title to Tal Itshak

the industry to a great extent. Key to his speech was the niche and more unconventional online
casinos that have emerged. He discussed the validity of the concepts that many of these casinos
represent, along with how key they are to industry landscape diversity. Bitcoin was another issue
placed under the spotlight, as he discussed how it could change how the industry functions in the
years to come.
RACE 2015 Awards
Obviously, as with any congress or expo these days there is an award ceremony incorporated into
proceedings. The awards at RACE have become highly coveted, largely as they stand as a symbol
of industry excellence. This year 9 different awards were handed out, with each award seemingly
as coveted as the last. The most prominent award from a marketing perspective went to BETCART,

Hr Role In The Military Profession
No one is more professional than I, I am a Noncommissioned Officer, a leader of Soldiers . The

of? The Army is an American Profession of Arms, a vocation comprised of experts certified in the
ethical application of land combat power, serving under civilian authority, entrusted to defend the
Constitution and the right and interests of the American people. In this essay, I will identify the
importance of the role of Human Resources (HR) Sergeant in the Profession of Arms.
As you look at the Army and think of it as a profession of Arms, you have to look at the balancing
roles of professional leaders. First, is the role of the strategic leaders, they balance the relationship
between the Army s four fields of expertise and its current and potential future operating

John Steinbeck s East Of Eden
East of Eden is considered a work of literature because of it s many complex characters, insights into
human nature, and use of literary elements to convey universal themes to the reader.
East of Eden is a novel that spans three generations, with a complex cast of characters who each
have their own unique motivations and values. The author, John Steinbeck, builds these characters
through their actions and relations with other characters, and through their actions, develop various
universal themes. Some prevalent themes in East of Eden include the idea of coping with evil, as
well as the idea of personal choice. Cathy Ames, the main antagonist in the novel, is described to

John Steinbeck uses a wide variety of literary devices throughout his novel, most notably, his wide
use of allusions. The two younger generations of the Trask family mirror the biblical tale of Cain
and Abel, both in name and in actions. Cain and Abel is a tale of two brothers, one a farmer, the
other a shepherd, who each offer gifts to god. God chooses Abel s gift over Cain s gift, and in a
jealous rage, Cain murders Abel. God then exiles Cain to the lands east of Eden, where he is
sent to wander. Both generations of Trask brothers mirror the story of Cain and Abel. One
brother is favored above the other, which leads to anger from the sibling cast aside. Adam s
father cast aside Charles in favor of Adam, and Adam, unaware of the similar circumstance, casts
aside Caleb over his more amiable brother, sending him into a jealous rage the same way Adom s
brother had years before. The repeating circumstances convey the insight that history may not
repeat per se, but rather it rhymes. Another major allusion within East of Eden is the title itself.
Cain is sent to the lands east of Eden as his punishment, and so is Charles, who confines himself to
his farm to think over his actions. Caleb finally breaks the cycle, being relieved from his spiritual
wandering by his father. The title contrasts the theme of the novel, which emphasizes human choice
in their fate.

ill people generally respond well to treatment but are unable to maintain recovery independently
(Evans, 2015 b; Brennan, 2009). Under Kendra s Law, there is an established procedure is used
for clients to receive and accept outpatient treatment (Evans, 2015 b; Brennan, 2009). Kendra s
Law established certain criteria that would allow the court to require a person to participate in an
assisted outpatient treatment (AOT) if they meet certain criteria (Evans, 2015 b; Perlin, 2003).
According to Perlin (2003), the criteria for a person to be court ordered to submit to AOT is that
the person is at least 18 years of age and suffering from a mental illness

Designing A Stronger Behavior Management System
Self Assessment
Creating and implementing this unit on division for this diverse fifth grade class was able to help
me grow as an educator. While there were many strengths from this unit, there was also some areas
of growth that could have been made in order to make the unit even more successful. One major
strength from this unit was the differentiation of instruction and assessments. An area of growth for
this unit would be to create a stronger behavior management system in order to make the time
dedicated to math each day more valuable.
This inclusion classroom has a wide range of learners with varying ability levels. In math, there
are four tiered groups with some students who are above grade level, some on grade level, and
some who are two or three grade levels behind. This unit has rather abstract concepts that the
students needed to build an understanding of, and in order to do that I needed to make sure to
differentiate the delivery of instruction as well as the assessment types. This was a strength for this
unit, because each lesson was differentiated for the tiered groups in the form of pacing, guides,
graphic organizers, assessments, manipulatives, rubrics, and difficulty of problems. One specific
way that I differentiated during this unit was by providing students with guided notes, graphic
organizers, and manipulative to increase their understanding of abstract division strategies for
solving multi digit division problems. Long division was a particularly

Biography of Eric Clapton Essay
Biography of Eric Clapton Eric Clapton was born on March 30, 1945 in Ripley, Surrey, England.
He was born the illegitimate child of Patricia Molly Clapton, who could not afford to raise him
at the time. He spent his life being raised by his grandparents, Rose and Jack Clapp, who, until
he was nine, shielded him from the fact that he was illegitimate. They pretended they were his
parents, while his real mother claimed to be his sister. Even after Clapton knew that he was, in
fact, a bastard, he would still visit his mother, and she would still pretend to be his sister. From an
early age, Clapton had an aptitude for art and especially for music. At age 14, his grandparent

Clapton then left the Bluesbreakers in 1966 in order to start his own band, Cream, with bassist
Jack Bruce and drummer Ginger Baker. Clapton wished to start a musical revolution and change
what people thought about music, with which he succeeded. His band very quickly became on
of the most prominent bands of the 60s, even beginning to be compared with the all time greats
of the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. However, because of arguing egos among the band
members and drug use in all of them, they broke up in 1969. Clapton, however, got back together
with Baker and with bassist Rich Green and Traffic s Steve Winwood to record one album as
Blind Faith, rock s first supergroup . They released one cd and went on a 24 city tour in
America, the stress from which caused the band to break up not even one year after it was
formed. Clapton kept busy for a while with lesser bands and small time performances, during
which time he was influenced the most. He was involved in a complicated love triangle with his
friend, George Harrison s, wife (who he eventually married in 1979 and divorced in 1988), which
inspired him to write Layla . He performed that on his ground breaking double album Layla and

Essay on An Annotation of Wallace Stevens Of Modern Poetry
An Annotation of Wallace Stevens Of Modern Poetry
In Of Modern Poetry, Stevens describes the purpose of modern poetry given what the audience
knows and values. Modern poetry must be different from traditional poetry, because people of his
time perceive themselves and their world differently than the people of earlier times. Stevens
suggests that war, like other changes, have affected what people believe. Poetry must reflect to its
audience what they want to hear. It must show them that the order, meaning and value they need is
real, in so much as their minds both need it and can create it.

Stevens first points out how modern poetry differs from traditional poetry. The implication is that
people are now questioning some fundamental aspects of intellectual constructs that used to be
considered necessary and true. In particular Stevens questions tradition of reading the book of
nature, of starting with religious presumptions and assuming nature communicates these ideas to
humans. Other traditions had changed as well thoughts about the social roles of men and women
and social propriety; thoughts about religious values and scientific discovery; nature and purpose of
communication resulting from new inventions. These changes sometimes reflected, sometimes
caused the development of new values. The rest of the poem records the change that occurs after
traditional assumptions are uprooted.
The past was a souvenir because once people realized that certain traditions could be changed,
they had no reason to believe those traditions had to be the standard. Like a souvenir, the scene
and the script became only a reminder of where people had been, it has no practical use for the
present. Once people conceived of a new stage, a new script, a new way of thinking, it had to be
experimented with. They valued experimentation, because they did not have a required standard.

Examples Of Probable Cause
The standard for a legal arrest is probable cause. For an officer to make an arrest, he or she must
have more than a mere hunch yet less than actual knowledge that the arrestee committed the crime
(Peak, 2009). Law enforcement officers need to make certain they understand probable cause is
different than reasonable suspicion. A good example of a reasonable suspicion encounter is Terry
V. Ohio, where an officer who had 39 years of experience in law enforcement observed two men
standing on a street corner. It appeared based on the officer s experience the two men were casing
a store because they both were walking up and down the street peering into the store windows, and
then they would return to the corner to conference. While the officer... Show more content on

The officer did have reasonable suspicion to make contact and after locating the weapons he had
his probable cause. There are four situations that Probable Cause is used; involving arrests with a
warrant, arrests without a warrant, searched of items with a warrant, and searches of items
without a warrant (V., D. C., Walker, J. T., 2015). Most of my encounters with individuals occurs
on traffic stops; which require probable cause to stop them. My probable cause could be
speeding, reckless driving or any traffic violation in the traffic law manual. Once probable cause
is established then contact is made with the driver. If there is reason to believe that there is
more than a traffic violation, such as an officer smelling marijuana inside the vehicle, then he or
she can now have access into the vehicle. My probable cause to get into the vehicle is based on
my training and experience that there was or is illegal narcotics inside the vehicle. If there is no
probable cause to get into the vehicle and an officer feels there is more to the traffic stop than
speeding, then the officer needs to build his reasonable suspicion to figure out what the driver is
up to. For example, one night on patrol, it was believed that there was a possible drug transaction

long standing issues of racial inequality in America. To perform this experiment, the authors
decided to create several small focus groups. They chose to employ this method because it more
closely replicates the setting where stand up comedy is traditionally received, and it creates a
much more natural environment for the participants. They selected eleven 19 26 year old college

Bradwell V. Illinois Case Study
The 1873 court case Bradwell v. Illinois is an example of structure contributing to gender
formation. Myra Bradwell was a woman who had extensive law training and was qualified to
practice law. However, when she applied for a license to practice law, the court refused. The
court argued that, while she was extremely qualified to practice law, granting her a license would
disrupt the idea that men and women were supposed to occupy different spheres of action, and that
it belonged to men to make, apply, and execute the laws (23) because women were unfit for civil
life. Not only did this ruling affect gender formations in Illinois, it also set a precedent for similar
court cases in other states. The Court s ruling in Bradwell v. Illinois is unjust because it strengthens
the structure that oppresses... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This court ruling shows contradiction in many ways. First, the fourteenth amendment states that no
State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges and immunities of citizens
of the United States (23). The Court acknowledges this, but justifies their ruling by saying that God
had created women and men to have different jobs, and that the law of God was that the paramount
destiny and mission of woman are to fulfil the noble and benign offices of wife and mother (24). In
this argument, the Court bases their refusal of her license on the gender hierarchy that exists
biologically rather than gender inequality. However, justifying their decision with religion
contradicts the idea that the Supreme Court should be secular in its rulings. This argument is also a
contradiction to the fourteenth amendment because regardless of its justifications, it restricts a
woman s right to practice law legally. While this ruling appears to be unjust to many, the court
believed that they were just. They believed that this ruling benefits the public good because not

The effects of British colonialism are reflected in literature from both early modernism and post

in the British explorers viewed African natives of the Congo as incapable of human equality due
to perceived uncivilized savagery. Personal interaction between races was little to none, as the

This food revolution dramatically changed the way food was produced. This change had a major
political, social, and economic impact on societies and regions. Due to this, many new advances

The Female Body And Human And Agricultural Fertility

12The guilt of Ephraim is bound up,
His sin is kept in store.
13The labor pains of childbirth come for him,

In verse 12, there is the motif of guilt and sin, arranged in such a way as to form an assonance
for emphasis. Verse 13 contains the motifs of the folly of Ephraim which leads to his destruction,
and the imagery of the female body, both common threads in the book of Hosea. The imagery of
the female body, particularly regarding death in childbirth, is deeply connected to ideas of taboo,
human fertility and agricultural fertility. These verses encourage us to question the world around us
and to be prepared to leave our comfort zone.
The First Motif: Guilt and Sin In verse 12, the author uses several linguistic devices to make his
point. Both verbs, Ч¦ЦёЧЁЧ•ЦјЧЁЦ™ and Ч¦Ц°Ч¤Ч•ЦјЧ ЦёЦ–Ч”, begin with the same Hebrew
letter and form an assonance. In addition, both nouns, ЧўЦІЧ•ЦєЦЈЧџ and
Ч—Ц·Ч ЦёЦјЧђЧЄЦЅЧ•Ц№, present similar concepts. How the author is making his point
here adds to the point itself; in the Hebrew, this verse is repetitive in both sound and meaning.
This emphasizes the author s point and makes it less easily dismissed or forgotten. It digs deeper
into the minds of the audience than if the author had merely stated it once. Interestingly, the word
pair of guilt and sin appear three other times in Hosea (4:8; 8:13; 9:9), and each time the verse is
similarly structured with an assonance of the verbs and the same two parallel nouns above. The
linguistic quality of these verses makes them memorable, what we might call today an ear worm. In
each of these verses, the guilt and sin are

The actors are dressed according to the time period in reference. However, the costumes tell a lot
about the character and its prerogatives. In the movie, we see Yu Shu Lien in a quite simple but
multi layered attire swiftly suggesting her master title. The first shot of her shows her in a
white garment and in all the other shots she dresses in similar but more neutral colors. She
evolves from being just a beautiful woman to having more responsibility and thus toning her
woman qualities to the down low. She quenches her woman attributes and thus renders quite
difficult her submission to her emotions and feelings. Master Li is quite simply dressed with an
ample kimono undermining his brilliant knowledge of Wudan. This contrast is due to the fact
that he abandons his title and takes on the very common role of a regular man. The most
interesting example here is the young Long. Her first appearance, which was during the day,
reveals a quite sophisticated lady dressed in rich clothes suggesting royalty. Later on in the
night, she hides in a ninja attire (a man attire) to commit a theft and exercise Wudan. Under the
sun she obeys the rules and let her wild rebellious desires free in the night. She aspires to a life, a
role that breaks the principles and rules of tradition. And even if she is entitled, she dares not show
it in public until much later where eventually there is breaking point. Here we see how solid the
boundaries created around a person by tradition hold strong no matter the person itself. Tradition

The Limitations Of Contemporary Currency Hegemony And The...
Chapter 4 The Limitations of Contemporary Currency Hegemony and the Transition to
Multipolarity The prevailing presumption amongst currency scholars of the past century is that
issuing a currency that dominates global markets and trading is of overwhelming benefit,
largely interpreted via the gains made by the US as the issuer of the dollar. These benefits have
been both political and economic in nature, as discussed in the previous chapter. However, both
domestic and external factors have begun to detract from the dollar s pinnacle currency gains,
and leads to questions of whether what was once described as an exorbitant privilege is
deteriorating to the extent that it is a burden. While assessing the dollar s evolved role as a
burden appears premature, nonetheless it appears the capacity of the US to use the dollar as a
mechanism for power is under threat. In fact, the US dollar may well be more than just under
threat . It is no longer able to exert influence like it once was, but relies on the benefits it
solidified for itself at the formation of the globes monetary structures. The leverage available to
the United States through the use of dollars is still greater than any rival currency, but it is not
absolute as it was decades before. While much has been written about the euro, and the dollars

In a sexism stricken society there are drawbacks that affect women every day of their lives.
According to men, about 56% of them think sexism is no longer an issue (Source). Today, sexism
is still a threat to women of all over the world. Kathryn Stockett, the author of The Help, addresses
sexism to make the time period genuine to the reader. The sexismin Stockett s book is brought
forth indirectly. Stockett uses two of her main protagonists as an example on how sexism affects
women and the roles they are supposed to play. Sexism is a practice that is detrimental to women,
entices violence, and creates a social barrier between the sexes.
To begin with, women often find themselves in adverse situations that they have no control over.

Comparing today s society to the society in The Help, jobs were only offered to women who fit
the look of a petite, feminine woman and nowadays people are hired for the amount of experience
they had. Stockett emphasizes the gender barrier many women experience during the time period
she depicts in her book. In the beginning chapters when Miss. Skeeter is looking for a job she
encounters a, squat, single column under HELP WANTED: FEMALE (Stockett 68), in the
daily paper implying there is a limit of jobs that women can work. Most of them happened to be
secretary positions. This is not only hurtful to women who do not fit the conventional stereotype
of a woman, but to women who want to change their world even if it means baby steps. Men are

collate operators. On this page, Percy Gray, LP, is offering Jr. Stenographers fifty more cents an

make more money. The way that sexism plays its role in society make it seem like there is no
way of overcoming this obstacle faced by women. Breaking the large social boundary that women

John Barry The Great Influenza Rhetorical Analysis
John M. Barry s ///The Great Influenza///, about the 1918 flu epidemic, explains how as well as

the nature of scientific research on uncertainty, which requires diligence, risk, and exploration out

Throughout the first few paragraphs, Barry introduces the idea of diligence, which is the scientists

Throughout lines 23 35, Barry uses an extended metaphor, to relate wilderness exploration to the
uncertainty and mystery of science, which better shows the amount of risk that scientists make to
carry out their experiments and ideas. Within these lines, Barry uses an added rhetorical strategy,
juxtaposition, assisted by repetition, in lines 24 26, repeating the phrase among them , grouped
with the words least ambitious and The best to compare the actions of the most and least ambitious
scientists, as well as the effects of their actions. In lines 40 46, Barry uses repetition with the words
would and if , mimicking the behavior of scientists, emphasizing the uncertainty within the concept
of science. These rhetorical strategies support the effect of risk, an important factor in conquering

Predicting Life Expectancy
The quest to prolong our youth continues today, though not through lengthy field explorations, but
through improvements in health, nutrition, and medicine. A healthy diet, regular exercise, and
vaccinations can greatly improve an individual s life expectancy, while an outbreak of disease,
malnutrition, and social unrest can drastically lower an individual s life expectancy.
But how are life expectancies affected on a national level?
While these factors are central to living longer, they alone cannot be the only facets. The social and
economic conditions of each country will undoubtedly affect its citizens, their lifestyles and
decisions. Citizens of wealthier countries have access to modern medicine and medical facilities, the

Methodology
To determine the best model, I used the standard regression equation:
Y=О±+ ОІ1X1 +ОІ2X2+ОІ3X3+ ....+ ОІ6X6
I check that the data is independent and identically distributed with a mean that follows the
regression equation above, and a constant variance.
Using the F test and partial F test, I drop input variables from the model that do not provide much
additional information over the other variables. Finally, I determine a model that has only
significant variables and a reasonable R squared. R squared is a measure of how well the model
explains the response variable. For example, if R squared is 99%, then 99% of the variation in the
response variable can be explained by variation in the input variables.
Results
First, I regress Y on all of the input variables, which produces the following output:
Overall, this model does provide some information that can be used to

A Short Note On My Life
y I m here. The ancestors are not happy with your decision not to accept your calling. Even
though I don t want to be a sangoma? They made it clear that I m not to offer you any alternative
solution. Accept their call, or else... Or else what? Don t anger the ancestors, understood? They
could make your life even more difficult. How? My life is already a mess. You could go crazy,
have unexplainable illnesses... or... you could die. Okay. What should I do to... accept my
calling? I ll tell you what you need to do. We made the changes you suggested. We tweaked the
log line and reworked the logo. Much better. And the team is working on... possible locations for

Thank you, Dad. Is that acceptable to you? Or do you still think I m forcing my will on your

European Responses To Native Americans
Many elements influenced the ways Europeans reacted to the indigenous people of the Americas
and the ways the indigenous people responded to Europeans. Incentives, opportunities of wealth
and power, and religious beliefs all played a critical role in the conquering of the Indies. It was
believed that the indigenous people of the Americashad no advanced language, rules and laws of
private property and ownership of lands, and other established social rules that so called
advanced societies have. It was strongly believed that it was a responsibly of the Spanish to
educate these advances to the indigenous people of the Indies. The conquests over the natives
were justified as long as the wars were carried on legally and agreeing to Spanish rules.... Show

Since the people of the Indies were thought to be so uncivilized, Columbus strongly believed he
had every right to take their land and make them into servants. The Spanish were convinced that the
peoples of the Americas were uncivilized heathens, they set about destroying much of what they
found in the name of their God. Because the Indigenous peoples religious beliefs were seen as
barbaric the Spanish felt justified in conquering the natives so they could be punished for their sins
and convert. In 1519 HernГЎn CortГ©s a Spanish conquistador arrived in Mexico from Cuba with
a mission to explore and establish in the name of God and for the King and Queen of Spain. The
Aztec empire, unlike the small tribes in the Caribbean, was similar to Spain in which it had
complex city states and had an advanced system of governing. Its emperor Moctezuma ruled the
whole empire from capital at TenochtitlГЎn. Once the capital was taken over by the Spanish and
the emperor was captured, the entire empire fell under their control. When the Spanish arrived to
Spain they were welcomed and treated as Gods. When being shown the city what CortГ©s and his
men saw in TenochtitlГЎn shocked and them disturbed them deeply. The natives believed that the
Aztec gods required human sacrifice to guarantee that the sun would rise in the morning, to provide
richness, and to guarantee a good harvest.

Composite Essay
1.1 Definition
The terminology composites extensively advert to a material system composed of the following:
A discrete constituent ( reinforcement)
A continuous phase(Matrix).
Thus, generally a composite can be termed as a material composed of a discrete constituent
distributed in a continuous phase and derives its distinguishing characteristics form the properties
of the constituents , from the spatial shape and the design of the constituents, and from the
properties of the interfaces between different constituents.
1.2 Classification Composites on the basis of the physical or chemical nature of the matrix phase
are usually classified as:
Metal Matrix Composites (MMC s)
Polymer Matrix Composites (PMC s)
Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMC s)
1.2.1Metal Matrix Composites (MMC s): Metal matrix composite structure is specifically the term
for metal alloy and the material in the form of strengthening. The matrix is percolating soft part
commonly having exquisitely the following :
2.Tensile strength
3.Hardness
4.Ductility
5.Thermal conductivity
6.Toughness For metal matrix light metal composite materials are stirred with light metal alloys.
For the purpose of solidification powder alloys conferred mainly for the production of metal matrix.

Stainless Steel Alloys Essay
The design of new stainless steel alloys with novel physical properties is vital to the petroleum
industry in order to develop technologies which will perform more efficiently at high temperatures
and pressures. While stainless steels with the addition of nickel have mechanical and thermal
properties which are desirable at high temperatures and pressures, the high cost of nickel is
prohibitive towards development of new devices which can be used in harsh conditions, so
discovering stainless steel alloys with similar properties with little to no nickel content with be
ideal. Ferritic alloys (Fe Cr) already have some applications in high temperatures in the presence of
sulfur, but they generally have poor tensile properties. The addition of... Show more content on

What we know The development of materials used in harsh conditions is a very active field of
research. This is mainly due to the broad range of industrial applications and of large interest in
the development of equipment for oil and gas industry. [1] In that respect, different stainless
steels have been proposed in the last decades and they are nowadays used in industry. Though
they are not as recognized as carbon steels, there is a steady growth that indicates the necessity to
understand the atomistic details of its performance, its potential crystallographic phases and the
changes of the elastic and corrosive properties for different alloying agents. The atomistic and
microstructure knowledge is a decisive factor in the design of a specific alloy. This will provide us
with the local understanding of the alloy and how the properties can be modified by the inclusion
of other atoms. We can generally classify stainless steels based on the different crystalline structures
which can be formed at different temperatures and under different pressures. [1 3] Austenitic
stainless steels (Оі phase) are face centered cubic structures (FCC), mostly nickel based, which are
quite weldable. They are used in a broad number of industries from chemical plants, food
processing and diary equipment. Though in very large use, they are prone to weld metal hot
cracking. These materials occupy almost 50% of the global production of stainless steel. Martensitic

Analysis Of Ziggurat By Stephen O Connor
1st Paragraph: Symbolism in Ziggurat
In Stephen O Connor s Ziggurat, the author utilizes symbolism to portray a raw tale of life and
death s conflicting relationship. O Connor s usage of a mythological character, the Minotaur, and a
human, the new girl, creates a juxtaposing link that reveals the inevitability of death. Ziggurat
follows the Minotaur s life throughout the labyrinth where he meets the new girl. Through his harsh
characterization and foreseeable destruction of those around him, the Minotaur can be seen as a
personification of death. The Minotaur believes in the idea that we were created to be destroyed (O
Connor), a hint at the inescapability of the death that the Minotaur symbolizes. Subsequently, the

This story, with its lack of rhyme structure and rhythm, is similar to a prose poem. The sharp and
repetitive sentence structure makes the list of instructions seem as if they are being given in one
endless dialogue. The seemingly infinite commands create a suffocating sense of obligation for the
daughter. By including questions in the mother s list of commands, the author makes it seem like
the mother is speaking in a stream of consciousness and is rattling off orders and advice to her
daughter. Soak salt fish overnight before you cook it; is it true that you sing benna in Sunday
school?; always eat your food in such a way that it won t turn someone else s stomach (Kincaid).
Simultaneously, it smothers the exchange between the daughter and mother, restricting the idea of
a real, two way conversation. Throughout the story, the daughter rarely speaks, only to protest
against her mother s claims, including the belief that the daughter will become a slut when she is
older. Her mother states, prevent yourself from looking like the slut I know you are so bent on
becoming (Kincaid) twice within the story, emphasizing the mother s accusatory words that
simultaneously assume the daughter is already on track to becoming a slut. Subsequently, the
daughter argues how she doesn t sing benna on Sundays at all (Kincaid) when harshly criticized by
her mother. The daughter s haste and sharp responses to her mother s brusque accusations suggest
that the daughter has already

The African American Population And The Field Of Counseling
The African American population is underrepresented in the field of counseling (Williams Justice,
2010). Because African American men have a macho complex that they have to maintain, some
see going to counseling as a sign of weakness. Blacks have a mistrust that s associated with being
oppressed by Whites. Black men have been opposed to opening up and letting a stranger into their
lives. They would rather to speak with someone in their community such as family, friends, pastor,
or teachers. It s extremely important for a counselor to build rapport with clients of another race
because it s beneficial to the therapeutic process (Williams Justice).
Black males in college have the opportunity to take advantage of counseling services on ... Show

Studies have focused on how minorities usually like to have a counselor with a similar background
as them, which presents an obstacle for students at PWU s (Speight Vera, 2005). As time evolves
counselors are becoming more culturally competent and the numbers for minorities seeking therapy
are increasing. Campus outreach programs have helped to bring students into the counseling
centers. Because there s a stigma attached to receiving counseling for Black males, if there are other
services offered at a counseling center other than counseling (for instance, massage chairs), it can
help bring in that demographic.
Students need to feel like they have something they can gain from seeking counseling. If they don t
feel like they will get that with the selection of counselors on their campus, they would rather hold
their problems in. The idea that client preferences regarding the particular characteristics of
counselors may critically influence such factors as whether the client seeks help, the duration of
counseling, subsequent client evaluation of counseling, and certain aspects of the counseling
interaction has long held currency in counseling theory and research (Strohmer, 2003). Strohmer
stated that half of the minority clientele dropout of counseling after the initial meeting in
comparison to a third of the White clients. According to the Office of Minority Health more than
half of the African Americanpopulation have

What Is Frank Deford s Attitude Towards Pete Rose Frank Deford willingly accepts Pete Rose as a hall of fame worthy player, however, by using phrases like the only person the ban benefits is Pete himself and the best thing that ever happened to Pete... he argues that even though he lacks the golden title, Rose is more popular than ever. Deford s report on Rose clearly demonstrates his admiration of the player and helps to shape the way the readers will view the person in question. Frank Deford establishes ethos as he gives many examples to show that he is not completely biased. Deford s lack of bias is shown in phrases like commissioners won t change their minds on Pete Rose... , where he mentions the commissioners as commissioners and doesn t side with them as if they were fact. • 4. Pi3p Immunoelectron microscopy has shown that PI3P also localizes on the parasite apicoplast and the food vacuole6. During the asexual blood stage, the Plasmodium endocytoses hemoglobin (the major cytosolic constituent of red blood cells) and digests it within the food vacuole. This key catabolic process is largely attenuated in the presence of kinase inhibitors that block PI3P biosynthesis14. Further investigation into a PI3P binding proteincalled FCP in P. falciparum reveals a similar phenotype (a stunted parasite size and defect in hemoglobin digestion) if its PI3P binding domain is deleted15. Again, this finding demonstrates the importance of deciphering PI3P effector proteins in P. falciparum. These PI3P regulated functions identified in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An urgent health public concern is raised due to the recent emergence of artemisinin resistance in P. falciparum17. Artemisinin based combination therapy is the front line antimalarial treatment due to its fast acting mechanism and high potency against falciparum malaria. Surprisingly, the molecular target of this potent antimalarial drug has recently been identified to be the PI3 kinase of P. falciparum18 20. This finding, along with the essentiality and significance of PI3P described above, accentuates the need to decipher the PI3P regulated cellular functions in P. falciparum. More importantly, many Plasmodium proteins are unique to the parasite (e.g., apicoplast enzymes and FCP), providing excellent targets for drug development. All in all, a more thorough comprehension of the important PI3P functions on the molecular basis allows for an explicit way to develop preventive and therapeutic interventions against malaria. Identification of PI3P effector proteins from a systemic point of view may provide a combinatorial drug therapy and strategy to bypass or delay the development of drug ... • 5. The Censorship Of The Hip Hop Culture The Oppressive Language Leading to the Degradation of Woman via The Hip Hop Culture Today There s a powerful source brainwashing young minority women today, specifically the language expressed in Rap lyrics which is often embraced by the Hip Hop Culture recently. These young gems are being conditioned to value their worth centered around hollow, vain, and degrading measures. The lead directors of these measures are strong, empowered, talented men who come across as if they detest woman. They disclose and describe detail stories of lifestyles involving model chicks who degrade themselves for acceptance, money, and opportunity. Consequently, this behavior leaves impressions for young ladies to follow after; because most young ladies of minority tap into the hip hop culture as a guide for social behavior. Although, the Hip Hop culture allows a window into the challenges faced by the black community it has also been the lead contributor to the desensitization of exploitation towards women due to the negative messages and images portrayed in music lyrics and music videos today. Symbols of Sexuality Gone Wrong Adams and Fuller(2006) define misogyny as the hatred or disdain of women. It is an ideology that reduces women to objects for men s ownership, use, or abuse. This ideology is widespread and common throughout society (p. 939). The devaluation of young minority women through the hip hop culture is an epidemic. The word choices conveyed in ... • 8. Protecting Pesticides In Frogs Without herbicides, the most widely used class of pesticides in the United States, crop production and yields would drop, pristine habitat would have to be plowed under to accommodate more crop acres, and the additional cultivation would result in more soil erosion (Brandon). Pesticides also protect the crop from rodents and insects who want to feed off of them. By eliminating the pests, there is a lesser chance of diseases (which the rodents and insects carry with them). It also ensures the healthiness of the crop and allows us to have popular produce year round or keep it fresh while traveling around the world to be bought and traded. • 9. How Did The Levels And Spheres Of Standard Oil Change Society With reference to the levels and spheres of corporate power discussed in [chapter 3], how did the power of Standard Oil change society? Was this power exercised in keeping with the social contract of Rockefeller s era? With reference to the levels and spheres of corporate power discussed in the chapter, Rockefeller and the powers of Standard Oil had impacts to the society economically, technologically, politically, and culturally. When Rockefeller was young, he found an investment that would change him for the rest of his life. The Cleveland petroleum refinery in which he invested $4,000 in 1863, was still in its beginning stages. However, Rockefeller was devoted to the oil business, soon becoming one the most successful men in history. Economic power is the ability of the corporation to influence events, activities, and people by the virtue of control over resources, particularly property. The power of Standard Oil changed society by leading the economy to economic growth. The Standard Oil business had built facilities and employed workers. In turn, this had also increased the economy to a fuel related industry. As Rockefeller had expanded the business of his company, Standard Oil also improved and perfected their oil refined technology. In terms of a deeper level of the power, the Standard Oil business sparked the development in other industries, such as the automobile industry. However, I think the questions will be most fruitful when applied to my professional self: Miranda the Stage Manager. We also know that in each of the two countries that their way of living is different from each other even though their religion is same. This is true throughout the world and that is what makes it hard for one to understand why there cannot be more cohesion between countries. The same true of Syria. The way they live day to day and worship is different from either of the other two countries, despite that they are an Islamic country. The Syrian people are different in the approach to people, economy, government, and cultural life. Ethnic and Linguistic The people of Syria draw their influence from several origins over a long period. The Greeks and Romans ethnic influence was negligible. The people of Arabia and Mesopotamia left their influence on what we see today. Even though the Turks, Greeks, and Romans influenced the political and economic structures of Syria, they could not change in the dominant Arab character of the Syrian people. • 14. Implementation Of Incremental Development Process incremental development process makes it the opposite to the rigid requirement needs of the Waterfall method. Agile methodologies are open to change as the project starts and progresses. The contrasting requirements need of the two methodologies, is one of the main contrast points in today s project life cycle processes. There is a constant struggle between the two processes even in today s business landscape. I have worked at Google as a program manager mobile and after Google, I worked at a satellite manufacturing company called Space Systems Loral. The former is a software company and latter is a hardware company. At Google, they have embraced agile methodologies for software development, as the company is very progressive in nature. They are also very open to feedback from their users, and therefore agile allows them to take in product suggestions and address users needs with no predetermined rigid requirements from clients or users for initial requirements. Work is done in mini project or sprints format and when there is a need to shift directions, everything already worked on is scrapped if not necessary, and then a complete reset occurs. Since the project s initial framework is not known at the time the project starts, the final product can deviate drastically from what was initially envisioned. At Space Systems Loral, being that it is a hardware satellite manufacturing company, they inherently have to adopt the waterfall methodology for their needs. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

John Steinbeck s East Of Eden East of Eden is considered a work of literature because of it s many complex characters, insights into human nature, and use of literary elements to convey universal themes to the reader. East of Eden is a novel that spans three generations, with a complex cast of characters who each have their own unique motivations and values. The author, John Steinbeck, builds these characters through their actions and relations with other characters, and through their actions, develop various universal themes. John Steinbeck uses a wide variety of literary devices throughout his novel, most notably, his wide use of allusions. The two younger generations of the Trask family mirror the biblical tale of Cain and Abel, both in name and in actions. Cain and Abel is a tale of two brothers, one a farmer, the other a shepherd, who each offer gifts to god. God chooses Abel s gift over Cain s gift, and in a jealous rage, Cain murders Abel. God then exiles Cain to the lands east of Eden, where he is sent to wander. Both generations of Trask brothers mirror the story of Cain and Abel. One brother is favored above the other, which leads to anger from the sibling cast aside. Adam s father cast aside Charles in favor of Adam, and Adam, unaware of the similar circumstance, casts aside Caleb over his more amiable brother, sending him into a jealous rage the same way Adom s brother had years before. The repeating circumstances convey the insight that history may not repeat per se, but rather it rhymes. Another major allusion within East of Eden is the title itself. Cain is sent to the lands east of Eden as his punishment, and so is Charles, who confines himself to his farm to think over his actions. Caleb finally breaks the cycle, being relieved from his spiritual wandering by his father. The title contrasts the theme of the novel, which emphasizes human choice in their fate. ... While there were many strengths from this unit, there was also some areas of growth that could have been made in order to make the unit even more successful. One major strength from this unit was the differentiation of instruction and assessments. An area of growth for this unit would be to create a stronger behavior management system in order to make the time dedicated to math each day more valuable. This inclusion classroom has a wide range of learners with varying ability levels. In math, there are four tiered groups with some students who are above grade level, some on grade level, and some who are two or three grade levels behind. This unit has rather abstract concepts that the students needed to build an understanding of, and in order to do that I needed to make sure to differentiate the delivery of instruction as well as the assessment types. This was a strength for this unit, because each lesson was differentiated for the tiered groups in the form of pacing, guides, graphic organizers, assessments, manipulatives, rubrics, and difficulty of problems. Essay on An Annotation of Wallace Stevens Of Modern Poetry An Annotation of Wallace Stevens Of Modern Poetry In Of Modern Poetry, Stevens describes the purpose of modern poetry given what the audience knows and values. Modern poetry must be different from traditional poetry, because people of his time perceive themselves and their world differently than the people of earlier times. Stevens suggests that war, like other changes, have affected what people believe. Poetry must reflect to its audience what they want to hear. It must show them that the order, meaning and value they need is real, in so much as their minds both need it and can create it. Stevens first points out how modern poetry differs from traditional poetry. The implication is that people are now questioning some fundamental aspects of intellectual constructs that used to be considered necessary and true. In particular Stevens questions tradition of reading the book of nature, of starting with religious presumptions and assuming nature communicates these ideas to humans. Other traditions had changed as well thoughts about the social roles of men and women and social propriety; thoughts about religious values and scientific discovery; nature and purpose of communication resulting from new inventions. These changes sometimes reflected, sometimes caused the development of new values. The rest of the poem records the change that occurs after traditional assumptions are uprooted. The past was a souvenir because once people realized that certain traditions could be changed, they had no reason to believe those traditions had to be the standard. Like a souvenir, the scene and the script became only a reminder of where people had been, it has no practical use for the present. Once people conceived of a new stage, a new script, a new way of thinking, it had to be experimented with. They valued experimentation, because they did not have a required standard. For an officer to make an arrest, he or she must have more than a mere hunch yet less than actual knowledge that the arrestee committed the crime (Peak, 2009). Law enforcement officers need to make certain they understand probable cause is different than reasonable suspicion. A good example of a reasonable suspicion encounter is Terry V. Ohio, where an officer who had 39 years of experience in law enforcement observed two men standing on a street corner. There are four situations that Probable Cause is used; involving arrests with a warrant, arrests without a warrant, searched of items with a warrant, and searches of items without a warrant (V., D. My probable cause could be speeding, reckless driving or any traffic violation in the traffic law manual. Once probable cause is established then contact is made with the driver. If there is reason to believe that there is more than a traffic violation, such as an officer smelling marijuana inside the vehicle, then he or she can now have access into the vehicle. My probable cause to get into the vehicle is based on my training and experience that there was or is illegal narcotics inside the vehicle. If there is no probable cause to get into the vehicle and an officer feels there is more to the traffic stop than speeding, then the officer needs to build his reasonable suspicion to figure out what the driver is up to. Myra Bradwell was a woman who had extensive law training and was qualified to practice law. However, when she applied for a license to practice law, the court refused. The court argued that, while she was extremely qualified to practice law, granting her a license would disrupt the idea that men and women were supposed to occupy different spheres of action, and that it belonged to men to make, apply, and execute the laws (23) because women were unfit for civil life. In this argument, the Court bases their refusal of her license on the gender hierarchy that exists biologically rather than gender inequality. Verse 13 contains the motifs of the folly of Ephraim which leads to his destruction, and the imagery of the female body, both common threads in the book of Hosea. The imagery of the female body, particularly regarding death in childbirth, is deeply connected to ideas of taboo, human fertility and agricultural fertility. These verses encourage us to question the world around us and to be prepared to leave our comfort zone. The First Motif: Guilt and Sin In verse 12, the author uses several linguistic devices to make his point. Both verbs, Ч¦ЦёЧЁЧ•ЦјЧЁЦ™ and Ч¦Ц°Ч¤Ч•ЦјЧ ЦёЦ–Ч”, begin with the same Hebrew letter and form an assonance. In addition, both nouns, ЧўЦІЧ•ЦєЦЈЧџ and Ч—Ц·Ч ЦёЦјЧђЧЄЦЅЧ•Ц№, present similar concepts. How the author is making his point here adds to the point itself; in the Hebrew, this verse is repetitive in both sound and meaning. This emphasizes the author s point and makes it less easily dismissed or forgotten. It digs deeper into the minds of the audience than if the author had merely stated it once. Interestingly, the word pair of guilt and sin appear three other times in Hosea (4:8; 8:13; 9:9), and each time the verse is similarly structured with an assonance of the verbs and the same two parallel nouns above. The linguistic quality of these verses makes them memorable, what we might call today an ear worm. In each of these verses, the guilt and sin are

Chapter 4 The Limitations of Contemporary Currency Hegemony and the Transition to Multipolarity The prevailing presumption amongst currency scholars of the past century is that issuing a currency that dominates global markets and trading is of overwhelming benefit, largely interpreted via the gains made by the US as the issuer of the dollar. These benefits have been both political and economic in nature, as discussed in the previous chapter. However, both domestic and external factors have begun to detract from the dollar s pinnacle currency gains, and leads to questions of whether what was once described as an exorbitant privilege is deteriorating to the extent that it is a burden. While assessing the dollar s evolved role as a burden appears premature, nonetheless it appears the capacity of the US to use the dollar as a mechanism for power is under threat. In fact, the US dollar may well be more than just under threat . Kathryn Stockett, the author of The Help, addresses sexism to make the time period genuine to the reader. The sexismin Stockett s book is brought forth indirectly. Stockett uses two of her main protagonists as an example on how sexism affects women and the roles they are supposed to play. Stockett emphasizes the gender barrier many women experience during the time period she depicts in her book. In the beginning chapters when Miss. Skeeter is looking for a job she encounters a, squat, single column under HELP WANTED: FEMALE (Stockett 68), in the daily paper implying there is a limit of jobs that women can work. Most of them happened to be secretary positions. This is not only hurtful to women who do not fit the conventional stereotype of a woman, but to women who want to change their world even if it means baby steps. Men are always offered, at least four columns filled with bank managers, accountants, loan officers, cotton collate operators. On this page, Percy Gray, LP, is offering Jr. Stenographers fifty more cents an hour (Stockett 69), additionally adding to the notion that men have more job opportunities and make more money. The way that sexism plays its role in society make it seem like there is no way of overcoming this obstacle faced by women. • 43. John Barry The Great Influenza Rhetorical Analysis John M. Barry s ///The Great Influenza///, about the 1918 flu epidemic, explains how as well as why scientists commit to their calling. By the end of the excerpt, Barry, through his words, bases the nature of scientific research on uncertainty, which requires diligence, risk, and exploration out of exceptional scientists. Using rhetorical strategies, Barry characterizes scientific researchas mysterious and dangerous, a research done by scientists who are pioneers, in a figurative sense. Throughout the first few paragraphs, Barry introduces the idea of diligence, which is the scientists abilities to be careful and persistent in work. In the first few lines of the passage, the author features repetition, as well as a slight parallel structure; in lines 1 3, when the author is repeating and comparing certainty and uncertainty , emphasizing the point that certainty and uncertainty are both equally required within the mind of a scientist; considering the concept that certainty creates strength and uncertainty creates weakness. Along with this, in line ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout lines 23 35, Barry uses an extended metaphor, to relate wilderness exploration to the uncertainty and mystery of science, which better shows the amount of risk that scientists make to carry out their experiments and ideas. A healthy diet, regular exercise, and vaccinations can greatly improve an individual s life expectancy, while an outbreak of disease, malnutrition, and social unrest can drastically lower an individual s life expectancy. But how are life expectancies affected on a national level? While these factors are central to living longer, they alone cannot be the only facets. Using the F test and partial F test, I drop input variables from the model that do not provide much additional information over the other variables. Finally, I determine a model that has only significant variables and a reasonable R squared. R squared is a measure of how well the model explains the response variable. For example, if R squared is 99%, then 99% of the variation in the response variable can be explained by variation in the input variables. Incentives, opportunities of wealth and power, and religious beliefs all played a critical role in the conquering of the Indies. It was believed that the indigenous people of the Americashad no advanced language, rules and laws of private property and ownership of lands, and other established social rules that so called advanced societies have. Since the people of the Indies were thought to be so uncivilized, Columbus strongly believed he had every right to take their land and make them into servants. The Spanish were convinced that the peoples of the Americas were uncivilized heathens, they set about destroying much of what they found in the name of their God. Because the Indigenous peoples religious beliefs were seen as barbaric the Spanish felt justified in conquering the natives so they could be punished for their sins and convert. In 1519 HernГЎn CortГ©s a Spanish conquistador arrived in Mexico from Cuba with a mission to explore and establish in the name of God and for the King and Queen of Spain. Stainless Steel Alloys Essay The design of new stainless steel alloys with novel physical properties is vital to the petroleum industry in order to develop technologies which will perform more efficiently at high temperatures and pressures. While stainless steels with the addition of nickel have mechanical and thermal properties which are desirable at high temperatures and pressures, the high cost of nickel is prohibitive towards development of new devices which can be used in harsh conditions, so discovering stainless steel alloys with similar properties with little to no nickel content with be ideal. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What we know The development of materials used in harsh conditions is a very active field of research. This is mainly due to the broad range of industrial applications and of large interest in the development of equipment for oil and gas industry. [1] In that respect, different stainless steels have been proposed in the last decades and they are nowadays used in industry. Though they are not as recognized as carbon steels, there is a steady growth that indicates the necessity to understand the atomistic details of its performance, its potential crystallographic phases and the changes of the elastic and corrosive properties for different alloying agents. The atomistic and microstructure knowledge is a decisive factor in the design of a specific alloy. This will provide us with the local understanding of the alloy and how the properties can be modified by the inclusion of other atoms. We can generally classify stainless steels based on the different crystalline structures which can be formed at different temperatures and under different pressures. [1 3] Austenitic stainless steels (Оі phase) are face centered cubic structures (FCC), mostly nickel based, which are quite weldable. They are used in a broad number of industries from chemical plants, food processing and diary equipment. Though in very large use, they are prone to weld metal hot cracking. These materials occupy almost 50% of the global production of stainless steel. Martensitic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Analysis Of Ziggurat By Stephen O Connor 1st Paragraph: Symbolism in Ziggurat In Stephen O Connor s Ziggurat, the author utilizes symbolism to portray a raw tale of life and death s conflicting relationship. O Connor s usage of a mythological character, the Minotaur, and a human, the new girl, creates a juxtaposing link that reveals the inevitability of death. Ziggurat follows the Minotaur s life throughout the labyrinth where he meets the new girl. Through his harsh characterization and foreseeable destruction of those around him, the Minotaur can be seen as a personification of death. The Minotaur believes in the idea that we were created to be destroyed (O Connor), a hint at the inescapability of the death that the Minotaur symbolizes. Subsequently, the new girl ... The sharp and repetitive sentence structure makes the list of instructions seem as if they are being given in one endless dialogue. • 50. The African American Population And The Field Of Counseling The African American population is underrepresented in the field of counseling (Williams Justice, 2010). Because African American men have a macho complex that they have to maintain, some see going to counseling as a sign of weakness. Blacks have a mistrust that s associated with being oppressed by Whites. Black men have been opposed to opening up and letting a stranger into their lives. They would rather to speak with someone in their community such as family, friends, pastor, or teachers. Studies have focused on how minorities usually like to have a counselor with a similar background as them, which presents an obstacle for students at PWU s (Speight Vera, 2005). As time evolves counselors are becoming more culturally competent and the numbers for minorities seeking therapy are increasing. Campus outreach programs have helped to bring students into the counseling centers. Because there s a stigma attached to receiving counseling for Black males, if there are other services offered at a counseling center other than counseling (for instance, massage chairs), it can help bring in that demographic. Students need to feel like they have something they can gain from seeking counseling. If they don t feel like they will get that with the selection of counselors on their campus, they would rather hold their problems in. The idea that client preferences regarding the particular characteristics of counselors may critically influence such factors as whether the client seeks help, the duration of counseling, subsequent client evaluation of counseling, and certain aspects of the counseling interaction has long held currency in counseling theory and research (Strohmer, 2003). Strohmer stated that half of the minority clientele dropout of counseling after the initial meeting in comparison to a third of the White clients.
