Leadership?
 Literature Review

 Conclusion
OPENING THOUGHT Think of a strong educational
leader you have known. Discuss what they do that
makes them a strong leader with the person next to
you.
 To identify best practices when it comes to leadership and
support of teachers.
 The role of the principal has become dramatically more
complex, overloaded, and unclear over the past decade
(Fullan, 1991, p. 144).
“If student learning is the most important function of schools, then instruction is
where we focus our time and attention.”
Fielding, Kerr & Rosier, 2007
PURPOSE
In general this presentation transformation leadership will be
defined as that quality which has a positive affect on a teachers
growth and motivation.
Specifically this presentation will focus on how principals and
school leaders can use the concepts of Transformational
Leadership platform to move their school forward.
• Model the Way
• Inspire a Shared Vision
• Challenge the Process
• Enable Others to Act
Kouzes and Posner (2007) define
Transformational Leadership
The majority of researchers agree that
management and leadership are distinct
concepts…(Bass & Riggio, 2006).
Leaders versus Managers
The single biggest way to impact (schools) is to
focus on transformational leadership. There is
almost no limit to the potential of an
organization that recruits good people, raises
them up as leaders and continually develop
them. — John C Maxwell (2001) The 17th
Irrefutable Laws of Teamwork, page 185
Biggest way to impact school
Transformational Leadership is characterized
by leaders paying special attention to each
individual follower’s needs for achievement and
growth by acting as a coach or mentor (Bass &
Riggio, 2006, p. 7).
Characterized by
Transformational Leadership is about
The RIGHT vision ……
The RIGHT leadership……
The RIGHT teamwork……
