Rising Action In George Connell And Finney s Most...
Most Interesting Plot Imagine a story with lots of action, well developed plot structure, and interesting
resolutions while teaching life lessons. This is the dream of an enthusiastic reader. When reading a
story, a reader looks for something that will quickly engage his or her attention. Rising action in a
story satisfies this need. In Most Dangerous Game the main character faces many challenges, namely
the danger of being stalked by General Zaroff, an avid hunter who idolizes hunting and has taken it to
an extreme. Similarly, Tom in Contents of A Dead Man s Pocket faces danger and possible death when
he walks onto a high ledge. To help engage the reader, Most Dangerous Game and Contents of A Dead
Man s Pocket both use thrilling, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both climaxes deliver anxiety to the reader through intense, exciting action. First, the climax of Most
Dangerous Game surprises the reader. A man, who had been hiding in the curtains of the bed, was
standing there. Rainsford! screamed the general. How in God s name did you get here? Swam, said
Rainsford. I found it quicker than walking through the jungle (Connell 52). This climax is very
exciting and unexpected because the reader assumes Rainsford s fate when he jumps off the cliff into
the ocean. Now Rainsford confronts his hunter providing a climax that leaves the reader with anxiety,
prodding him or her to read on. Contents Of A Dead Man s Pocket also leaves the reader with unease
at the climax. As Tom reaches for the paper on the dangerous ledge, the reader reaches with him. He
couldn t quite touch it, and his knees now were pressed against the wall; he could bend them no
farther (Finney 30). Uncertainty fills the reader s mind in a similar way to Most Dangerous Game . In
contrast Finney s climax comes earlier in the story, which gives more time for the resolution of the
story. These stories both have breath taking climaxes, written to produce anxiety in the reader,
nudging them to read on. Finally, the resolution of the stories shows the main difference between the
two. Connell provides a dry resolution, giving few clues to the reader about the fate of Zaroff. After
Zaroff loses the game, Rainsford confronts Zaroff, and

Communicable Disease Paper
Communicable Disease Paper
Communicable disease, is an infectious disease transmissible, (as from person to person) by direct
contact with an infected individual or the individual s discharges or by indirect means (as by a vector)
(Merriam Webster, 2011, p. 1). Understanding how communicable diseases are spread is important in
reducing the significant affliction of disease in low income communities across the United States and
increase prevention, awareness, and safety. The objective of this paper is to discuss the communicable
disease s human immunodeficiency virus and acquired immune deficiency syndrome known as HIV
and AIDS. In addition to describing HIV/AIDS, a brief overview of prevention, environmental factors,

Influence of Lifestyles, Socioeconomic Status and Disease Management
In present society and in some lifestyles and media outlets, sleeping around is overly glorified to
children and young adults; the influence is the more the person sleeps around, the more popular the
person becomes. Particularly in the African American culture, video s depict rappers, surrounded by
women dressed scantly, influencing more provocative behavior among children and teens; promoting
sexual innuendos. A lower socioeconomic status may produce individuals with lower education, poor
health, and poverty. A person living at a lower socioeconomic status may not be able to obtain decent
employment to acquire health benefits; living in a poverty stricken neighborhood will not contain
accurate or up to date medical resources and services and sexual education will become shelved as a
non important issue within these communities. For HIV/AIDS management the individual must
receive up to date information and education on available HIV/AIDS resources, build a plan
specifically created by his or her physician, obtain equipment, and supplies necessary for treatment,
and assess nutritional information, which is extremely vital in preventing additional illnesses.
Furthermore, the individual may want to build a support team including his or her partner, and family
members,

There s A Certain Slant Of Light
Emily Dickinson s poem There s a certain Slant of Light is a powerful reflection on the pain of
depression and other internal struggles. As a recluse, Dickinson most likely was familiar with these
feelings and conveys them in a way we can all relate to. Although cryptic at first, this poem
communicates many universal emotions as well as an insight into Dickinson s state of mind.
Stanza one opens with Dickinson referring to a certain Slant of light, Winter Afternoon . This light is
described in the rest of the work, although it is not the main idea. Dickinson capitalizes Slant and
Winter Afternoon to the characterize the setting. The Slant of the light refers to the time of day,
morning or evening, and Winter Afternoons describes the season

Penicillin s Discovery
(noun)
1. An antibiotic or group of antibiotics produced naturally by certain blue moulds, now usually
prepared synthetically.
2. A blue mould of a type that produces penicillin (Oxford University Press 2015)
Penicillin was first discovered in 1928 and quickly became known as a miracle drug. Penicillin s areas
of largest significance fall into three categories and this essay will briefly outline how Penicillin s
discovery contributed historically, scientifically and in the military, particularly in the Second World
War.
The history of Penicillin s discovery can be accredited to fate, luck or just poor hygiene. It was
Alexander Fleming who happened across Penicillin in September 1928 at St Mary s Hospital Medical
School (Wood 2010, Ā¶14). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Meanwhile, the Oxford team was also using creative methods with the equipment at hand to culture
Penicillin; making use of bed pans, milk churns and baths all rigged together. They were finally able
to purify what they thought was enough for the first human trial on 12 February 1941. Albert
Alexander, a policeman suffering from a severe infection was Penicillin s first patient. After seeing the
results of this miracle drug it was obvious that if they had enough for a full course of the antibiotic, he
would have been practically pulled from his deathbed to a full recovery. Unfortunately after receiving
injections for 4 days, the realisation occurred that there was simply not enough to cure him and he
later relapsed in the beginning of March (Wood 2010, Ā¶16 21). The Columbia team wasn t far behind
them, when on 5 May 1941 they presented findings at a meeting of American Society for Clinical
Investigation, after trailing on several patients. These findings made the front page of several
newspapers, including the New York Times on 7 May 1941 (Oatman 2005, Ā¶14, 15). Penicillin was on

Cu Honor Code Analysis
Hold Safety Paramount: Engineers must prioritize the safety, health and welfare of the public and
should try to practice sustainability as often as possible. In order to do this, engineers must realize that
major engineering decisions do impact the general public s well being and they must review their
decisions to ensure that they are safe. Engineers with reasons to believe that a fellow engineer is not
following the rules stated in Canon 1 must report this person to the authorities in charge.
Service With Competence: Engineers should only work in areas where they are qualified, but they are
allowed to accept assignments outside of their areas of expertise as long as they are only working on
the portions of the jobs in which they are qualified. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Canon 3 states that engineers must always issue true statements, and code 3B states that engineers
must be truthful in all reports, statements and testimonies. This is similar to the CU Honor Code,
because the CU Honor Code was established in order to create a community of trust. In order to
follow the CU Honor Code, one cannot cheat or plagiarise. This means that students must be honest
and truthful when taking tests and doing homework. All of the work done by a student must be their
own. The CU Honor Code also relates with ASCE code 5D and 5E. Canon 5 states that an engineer s
merit speaks for their professional reputation. Code 5D states that engineers shall not misrepresent
their academic or professional qualifications. If a student cheats or plagiarizes, they are
misrepresenting their academic qualifications by turning in work that doesn t accurately display their
academic capability. Code 5E states that engineers must give credit to fellow engineers where credit is
due. Plagiarizing or copying someone else s work, robs that person from the credit they deserve, and
gives the credit to a student who doesn t deserve it. Finally, the CU Honor Code relates to ASCE code
6A. Canon 6 states that engineers shall uphold the honor, integrity, and dignity of the engineering
profession. The point of the CU Honor Code is for the students of CU Boulder to uphold the honor of
the school. Code 6A states that engineers shall not knowingly engage in anything dishonest or
unethical. Cheating or plagiarism in any form is unethical and dishonest because if a student turns in
work with their name on it, even though the work done isn t their own, then this student is not telling

Plan For Creating A Treatment Plan

and a job to keep me going. I need my own place where I can just be alone with no one to bother me.
Worker: I hear you. But, what s the most important thing right now? What s your plan? Skill:
Maintaining a focus on the goals. Reading the client: Is this guy going to help me get a room for me to

myself: I m feeling more confident that we can get on with the task of creating this treatment plan. I
need to keep asking John specific questions about his plan of action or simply guide him in the
process of coming up with ideas for setting goals and reaching for them. Evaluation: Staying on track
with creating a treatment plan cannot be a rigid task. I need to stay open to being flexible and realize
that if John is not ready to come up with specific plans for his post detox work on recovery then
perhaps this is not the time to do that. Another try: I reflect on my questions and say something like:
John, what do you suppose would be the consequences of your continued substance abuse? How
willing are you to make changes to move in another direction? New skill: Reframing Transaction #5

The Effect Of Temperature And Dissolved Oxygen...
I. Introduction
Anthropogenic climate change is causing hotter and drier conditions across the southwest United
States. Decades of fire suppression campaigns have led to an accumulation of ladder fuels within
forests across this region. Both of these factors are now contributing to more frequent and more
extreme fires in recent years. These catastrophic fires cause significant changes to ground cover along
stream corridors. The loss of ground cover significantly increases the amount of sediment entering
watersheds, which can alter both temperature and dissolved oxygen levels throughout the system. The
purpose of this paper is to examine the changes in water temperature and dissolved oxygen
concentration associated with wildfire, how these changes can be controlled, how effective these
controls are, and what more can be done.
II. Temperature
Fire can alter stream temperature in several different ways. First, and probably most short lived, is the
immediate temperature spikes caused by the active burning. Second, fire has the potential to reduce
overhead canopy cover, thus increasing light penetration and absorbance by the water. Finally,
additions of large amounts of sediment (which increases the turbidity of water bodies) can increase the
amount of light absorbed thereby increasing the water temperature.
Temperatures in streams can spike during active burning and kill many aquatic invertebrates and
vertebrates. In addition to this immediate consequence, the loss

Hispanic Stereotypes
Defeating the Hispanic Stereotype in Stand And Deliver Stereotypes help humans make sense of the
world. They are used by the brain as a psychological mechanism, helping us create categories. We use
these categories to organize the massive amounts data obtained from our everyday environment (Berg,
1990). If stereotypes help us lead more efficient lives, how can we possibly be spreading negativity
while using them? The answer to that question is in the way they are used, and for what purpose.
When using stereotypes to dominate a culture, or segregate a social class, tension and negativity is
something that should be anticipated. Donald Trump is a billionaire presidential candidate. He has

A Maori World
In the context of a Maori world view the role of women is different from that of women in European
culture; women played a key role in the collective of the whanau, hapu and iwi. There was no
hierarchy of the sexes. This is exemplified in the Maori language, where both the possessive and
personal pronouns are gender neutral.
Mana wahine is a theoretical and methodological approach that explicitly examines the intersection of
being Maori and female (Simmonds 11). Mana wahine isn t to be confused with Maori feminism, as
this may confuse ideas with the Western concept of feminism. Key elements included in mana wahine
are the concepts of whakapapa, wairua, and whanau (Hutchings 36). Many indigenous artists in
Aotearoa New Zealand engage with mana wahine as inspiration, some with ties to decolonisation.
These artists/designers use their work in reply to the dominant Pakeha culture and the history that is
shared. Art/design that engages with mana wahine is often linked to decolonisation narratives the
process by which the changes brought about under colonialism are undone. For mana wahine, it is a
reclamation of indigenous narratives, like Maori women s narratives in cosmology.
Audre Lorde wrote an essay for feminist postcolonial theory in which she muses that the women who
stand outside of this society s definition of acceptable women have to use the differences and become
strong from them (Lorde 26). The title of the essay is The Master s tools will never

Controversy Over Vegetarianism
Vegetarianism is not merely a present day fashion. Human beings from
diverse cultures have practiced it since olden times. Having a vegetarian diet has been
a topic that creates conflicting opinions, and it seems that the controversy gets bigger
as time moves on. In the times that we are living in today, where we are persistently
bombarded with information through the television and Internet, it makes it hard to know
who is right and who is wrong on this issue. Embracing vegetarianism provides the
optimum benefit as it keeps a person fit as a fiddle, with the added benefits of being
human and not disturbing the law of nature. So many Americans in many instances are
caught up with discovering the perfect diet. While such a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

USDA includes meat as part of a balanced diet, but it also states that a
vegetarian diet can meet the recommended dietary allowances for
nutrients. Many proponents of vegetarianism say that eating meat harms
health, wastes resources, causes deforestation, and creates pollution.
They often argue that killing animals for food is cruel and unethical since
non animal food sources are plentiful. Many opponents of a vegetarian
diet say that meat consumption is healthful and humane, and that
producing vegetables causes many of the same environmental problems
as producing meat. They also argue that humans have been eating and
enjoying meat for 2.3 million years. In Western culture, vegetarianism
dates back to Ancient Greece. The mathematician Pythagoras (570 BC
495 BC) advocated vegetarianism; a meatless diet was commonly called
the Pythagorean diet until the term vegetarian became popular during
the 1800s. The philosopher Plato (428 BC 348 BC) described a
vegetarian diet as divinely ordained ( Should People ).
The major reason I think more people are opting to become vegetarians is to reduce

Electronic Health Records Research
Research the transition from paper records to electronic health records.
One of the limitations of paper records is the unsecured storage in the event of a natural disaster or
human error. In fact, a natural disaster, Hurricane Katrina displayed the importance of the transition
from the paper record to electronic record. This disaster washed away thousands of paper records and
victims of this event lost all their medical information. This disaster showed the necessity of electronic

EHR uses standardized templates that capture data by typing, scanning, and utilizing drop down
menus among other features. A physician can enter complex prescriptions and record patient visit
notes directly into EHR without handwritten notes. In an EHR system, all the records of a patient are
saved in one system and diminish the chance of misplacing the records. In an EHR system, health
records are accessible. With a mouse click, the database can search and track the entire medical
history of the patient. Moreover, through the system, the records can be accessed remotely. It does not
make a difference of where the patient is receiving care, his or her medical records can be accessed
from anywhere and aid in the care. Therefore, electronic records have reduced these errors.
Has electronic records created new medical errors?
Electronic records have decreased certain medical errors. However, a human enters all the information
in the electronic health record system. It is very easy for staff that is working on an electronic record
to make a mistake while using the records. The staff may click on a wrong number or may enter
information in the wrong person s file. Or it could be just a simple typing mistake. If the staff working
on records is untrained and unaware of how EHR system works, he or she may make a blunder and it
may cause a medical error.
As a MA, how can you prevent electronic medical errors in your

Renee Descartes Method Of Doubt
Renee Descartes Method of Doubt is an incredibly interesting and mind bending philosophy to study,
in this paper I will be exploring what his method was and the main tool he used for it. Descartes
method begins with a notion that is simple to state but hard to imagine; that everything around us is
not real, it s a scary concept, and a huge one to take hold of so Descartes introduces a tool that helps to
illuminate how much doubt there can be in the world around us. This tool is that of the evil genius,
Descartes proposes that it is entirely possible that our minds are being controlled by an evil genius that
wishes to deceive us into believing that the world around us is real. Descartes does not say that there is
an evil genius; he offers the concept of the evil genius to allow us to open our minds and see how
uncertain our world is. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Descartes is emerging from the era of alchemy and religious explanation; his goal is to find firm
ground for science and math to rise from. By saying that there is an evil genius that is controlling our
minds we are forced to reexamine all that we hold to be true; our friends, family, memories,
experiences, even things we are so sure of such as math and the sciences. Once we have discredited all
that we believe to be true we start over from scratch, and by starting with this blank state we will be

Ford Pinto Case For A Defective Fuel System
FORD PINTO ASSIGNMENT
The Ford Pinto case involved the explosion of Ford Pinto s due to a defective fuel system. The fuel
system was designed in a way that even with a small hit the car would explode. After the cost benefit
analysis, Ford decided to go with its original gas tank designed despite the crash test result. At that
time Ford thought that would be the most ethical decision for the business. But later in 1978 media
paid more attention to the Pinto gas tank stories, which resulted in accidents and many people lost
their lives. Ford faced pressure from the media, the government, loss of future sales, loss of image,
court cases, and had to recall 1.5 million Pintos. One wrong decision of the Pinto Ford representatives
cost them more than what they assumed. In this case the argument and results would be different
according to ones ethical views. The three main ethical theories I have chosen that could ve changed
the decision and result are; Mills Consequentialism, Kant Deontology, and Rawls theory of
distributive justice. According to Mills Consequentialism ethics, the individuals made the ethical
decision at that point. They were focusing on the end result, which was making money and benefiting
business instead of fixing all the cars that would cost them $137.5 million. The company wanted to
achieve their sales goal, and create the greatest amount of good for the company. The made the

Horror Versus Terror
Before beginning my argument and analysis, it is first necessary to discuss some of the basic
contrasting features of the concepts of horror versus terror, beginning with the concept as outlined by
Paul Wells. On this distinction, and first referring to terror, he writes terror stimulates the desire to
actively come to terms with shock; to enjoy its provocation and understand its effect. [...] Horror,
however, has only a negative and paralysing effect; a wholly nihilistic and enduring condition of death
and oppression (Wells 11). Our class lecture from March 8th clarified, largely encompassing the
definition provided by Wells, that terror is a reactionary, automatic response to an external threat in
which the fear is immediate and involves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We also went over how horror involves the realization that evil exists in the world, but is largely not
something that can be seen in the world, only in one s own mind, and that while terror and horror
coexist, horror can never come before an interrelated experience of terror, but terror can inspire later
horror, though not simultaneously as there must be some separation in time (Wynter 8 March; Wells
11 13). We learned that horror requires thought, memory, and imagination and that it must be
separated by time from whatever experience or event inspired it, even if that event was terror, in our
lecture on March 8th, and in a lecture on April 5th we connected the immediate fear of terror and the
more prolonged and building experience of horror to common themes and tropes used in many, if not
almost all horror films today, which involves the overall change in, and usually tightening, of space in
order to elicit horror, and the growing distance in time that builds the experience of horror (Wynter 8

The Field Of Engaging Diverse Students
Overview of the issue Despite valuable research in the field of engaging diverse students in science
education, there is still a gap where these groups continue to be underrepresented and marginalized in
the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields (Brotman Moore, 2008).
Research indicates that the problem arises early in the classroom where curriculum and classroom
environment does not account for the increase of diverse students groups in the classroom.
Furthermore, teacher might not be receiving professional development training that prepares them for
teaching to multicultural schools, particularly schools that serve underrepresented communities
(Sleeter, 2001). In the last decade, research studies have suggested that inquiry based learning can
prepare students to become critical thinkers and subsequently increase their achievement in the
classroom. In addition, these studies have supported the argument that including science inquiry in the
classroom promotes achievement and equity in science and language acquisition for culturally and
linguistically diverse students (Cuevas et al., 2005; Sleeter, 2001; Stoddart et al., 2002). The purpose
of this literature review is to a) introduce science inquiry and the process, b) evaluate how science
inquiry as a teaching intervention is used to engage linguistically and culturally diverse students, and
c) present issues pertaining to the implementation of science inquiry in the classroom. Background

A Stop Loss Forward (SWAP with limiter) is a hedge transaction whereby a company can negotiate

Barriers to Entry: The athletic footwear industry is a very competitive and mature market. The leaders
of this industry are very well established. Leaders like Nike, Reebok, and Adidas have made the
industry what it is today. In order to have an edge over the leaders, companies must be able to compete
at all levels such as reasonable pricing, efficient production, and high product quality. These things are
difficult to achieve without the resources of an established manufacturer. Another key barrier to entry
is the access of traditional distribution channels. Lesser known brands are viewed by retailers as being
too risky to replace an established brand name like Nike or Reebok on the shelf. Thus, high startup
costs, lack of distribution channels, brand equity and cutthroat environment hinder the entry of new
competitors.
Non Price Competition: In a monopolistically competitive market like that of footwear industry, there
is just a slight difference between the products manufactured by various companies such as Nike,
Reebok, Adidas, Puma etc., and hence the companies rely heavily on non price competition. They
mainly use advertising to flaunt their products and try to get consumers to buy their product over
another. The goal of product differentiation and advertising (non price competition) is to make price
less of a factor in consumer purchases and make product differences a greater factor. There is a lot of

Effectiveness of Traditional Chinese Medicine Versus...
Abstract Eczema in paediatrics affects 25% of school going children in Singapore. It is a common skin
disorder and the prevalence has increased over the years. Treatment options usually involve the use of
corticosteroids in Western Medicine. Researches have shown that the use of Traditional Chinese
Medicine (TCM) has increased widely in Singapore as an alternate treatment for eczema. The purpose
of this pilot study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the two different treatment options, evaluating the
duration, outcome and recurrence rate of eczema in paediatrics. A selective sampling will be used to
obtain a total sample size of 50 participants from 2 different clinics. A questionnaire will be used to

Upon completion of the survey, a token of appreciation will be given to the parents to acknowledge
their participation in this study. This will be in a form of a small notebook titled Eczema Diary which
can be used to record the progress of their child during the course of treatment. After two months, the
surveyors will contact the parents to follow up on the child s progress with the respective treatments
based on the 3 follow up questions. Ethical implications We will first seek consent from the Head of
Department in the respective clinics in order to conduct this study in the clinics. Upon approval, the
surveyors will set up posters for advertisement purpose at the counter of the respective clinics. The
surveyors will approach the parents awaiting consultation at the respective clinics. Upon conducting
the survey, the surveyors will have to seek permission from the caregivers to conduct the survey. They
will also need the parents consent to follow up with the progress of their child for a period of 2
months. The surveyors will need to get approval to have the parent s contact details so as to collect the
data necessary for the study. Dissemination of results The findings will be reported to the Singapore
Health Promotion Board. This will increase the public awareness for children with eczema and
provide better outcomes about treatment options for eczema. Work plan This pilot study will take a

Compare and contrast of Ancient Female Rulers (china and egypl)

In the seventh century. In contrast, Pharaoh Cleopatra was born in 69 BC and was born into royalty as
part of the Ptolemaic dynasty, who ruled after the death of Alexander the Great (Ancient Egypt
Online, 2016). She obtained her position by first becoming co ruler to her father Ptolemy XII.Wu
Zetian personal name was Wu Zhao, often referred to as Tian Hou during the Tang Dynasty was the
only woman in the history of China to assume the title of Empress Regent. When she was young, she
read many books and received a great education from her father. At the age of 14, she was selected to
be Emperor Taizhong s Cai Ren because she was beauty and intelligence. Her most glorious title was
that she was the only female emperor in Chinese history who rule the country for almost half a
century. She used murder and treachery to become Empress of China.
Considering the events of her life, literary allusions to Wu Zetian can carry several connotations: a
woman who has inappropriately overstepped her bounds, the hypocrisy of preaching compassion
while simultaneously engaging in a pattern of corrupt and vicious behavior, and ruling by pulling
strings in the background. For many centuries, Wu was used by the Chinese establishment as an
example of what can go wrong when a woman is placed in charge. Such sexist opposition to her was
only lifted during the late 1960s, when Mao Zedong s wife Jiang Qing rehabilitated Wu as part of a
propaganda campaign

Anthem by Ayn Rand
Anthem, the futuristic novel pinned by Ayn Rand in 1937 gives light to a very scary place and time.
This writing expressed her views and beliefs that the United States would be repeating a dark place of
its history. Setting the preface where slavery and dictatorship was once more the social norm. As with
most forward thinkers their thoughts and ideas are concerned extreme and not given the validity they
deserve until future generation look back into the past. History and human behavior always repeats
itself.
Equality 7*2521 is a young boy that serves as the narrator of the story. Anthem is told by him to
express his view point of social order and its fall. Where doing anything alone is a sin. As the secrete
tunnel was discovered a fortress, retreat and refuge was to life of this young boy. A place where he can
feel safe and express his thoughts and ideas without the outside world controlling him anyway. His
goal was to obtain a small dose of what he craved. Seclusion! He refused to give in, like most people,
to the idea that the society was supposed to be seen as we instead of individuals.
After two years of experimenting and helping himself to the manuscript and studies of scholars, he
was finally to create the electric light bulb. He knew society would profit from this invention but was
unsure of how to share this with society since being in the tunnel was breaking the rules. His best bet,
according to him, was to show his idea to the scholars. While working on his

COMPETITORS
The recruitment policies of the competitors also effect the recruitment function of the organizations.
To face the competition, many times the organizations have to change their recruitment policies
according to the policies being followed by the competitors.
4. In the brief dissertation below, I will describe the benefits of three different recruitment methods ,
testing, practical assessment and telephone interviews and the benefits of three different selection
methods, advertising, using references and company website.
Selecting tests can measure knowledge, skills and ability, as well as other characteristics, such as
personality traits and they are useful to evaluate the right employee for a specific role, by identifying
the candidate personality. For example, if a company or department needs to hire a new manager, a
psychological/aptitude test may help to understand better if the candidate has the features required for
that specific job position (strong leadership skills, such as high self confidence, calmness, flexibility,
etc).
The practical assessment has the benefit to allow the candidates to show in practice to have the skills
required for that job position. It also have the advantage to get precious information about that
candidates (how they work under pressure; how they dial with performance anxiety ; non verbal

Woman In Black Film Techniques

traditional to gothic horror genre. Every gothic horror film features an evil ghost, an old haunted
house and an innocent character(s). A traditional gothic horror film includes a variety of film

Her costume consists of a long black dress with a black veil, providing the audience with only short
glimpses of her pale face. The use of black clothing allows the ghostly character to go unseen whilst in
the presence of other characters, and to hide behind dark shadows.
The ghostly figure can be recognised through the sound of her high pitched screams, which she
releases in the presence of another character. The thumping noises of a rocking chair on a timber floor
can be heard whenever the Woman in Black is present, and is associated with her death. The volume
of the rocking chair increases as a character approaches it, helping to create tension in a particular
scene.
The Woman in Black only appears in shadows or in the reflection of a mirror using an over the
shoulder camera shot. Throughout the film, the ghost is not seen directly in frame position to ensure
that she isn t seen directly by the audience. By positioning the Woman in Black in corners and hiding
her in the shadows, it creates tension and adds a sense of mystery to a scene. This can be seen during
the film whilst Arthur is in the house, and he drifts off to sleep. The evil spirit is seen in the shadows
moving towards Arthur, the image of the Woman in Black becoming clearer as she moves closer to the

Comparing Two Different Types Of English Riding
In the competitive world of horseback riding, there are two distinct styles: english and western. Even
though both sports require a horse, there are differences in the equipment you ride in, the type of
horse, and the basics of the sport.
The first difference is the type of equipment used in the sport. When riding, you use a saddle of
course, but saddles are made a hundred different ways for certain types of activity. For example, the
saddle you use. For a barrel racer, which is western, the saddle you use has a longer horn for the
ability to grab it when turning the barrels. The saddle is also heavier and thicker so it allows the barrel
racer to sit deep in the seat when going fast. For a jumper, which is english riding, the saddle has no
horn and is extremely light. The saddle is so light because the horse can jump higher and the only
weight that needs to be on the horse is the rider itself. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Different breeds of horses have different body structures, different speeds, and different temperaments
that fit with the sport they are used in. In all western sports quarter horses are mainly used even
though other types are used. Quarter horses are usually short and have very muscular hindquarters and
they also have the ability to reach top speed at a quarter of a mile, hence the name quarter horse .
Western sports are timed events but the fastest time wins, which is why this short and fast little horse
is used primarily in the western world of horseback riding. If you attend any english riding sport, the
horses you see are usually tall. For example you wouldn t see a short quarter horse in the jumping
arena trying to jump the high jumps. Thoroughbreds are a common breed spotted in the english arena
because of their build. They are quite tall and that also allows them to be used in racing because of
their high

Edgar Allan Poe Rabies
Poe Was a Victim of Rabies Edgar Allen Poe was a great writer that lived a hard life and died an
unfortunate death. On October 7, 1849 Edgar Allen Poe died. There are many theories of how Poe
died such as alcoholism and rabies. Poe died of rabies not alcoholism. Dr. R. Michael Benitez explains
that one fourth of rabies victims cannot remember being bitten (Pg. 187). There is no evidence that
Poe was bitten, but it can take up to a year for symptoms to appear. When symptoms do appear the
disease is a swift and brutal killer. Most patients die in a few days. (New York Times pg. 187). Poe
was only alive for four days at the hospital and was confused and belligerent most of the time. Rabies
victims frequently exhibit hydrophobia, or fear of water, because it is painful to swallow. (New York
Times pg. 187). For that reason, he could drink water only with great difficulty. This is why it cannot
be alcoholism. The writer is so sensitive to alcohol that a glass of wine would make him violently ill
for days. (New York Times pg.188). Therefore, he could not have died of alcoholism if drinking
alcohol makes him that sick. Mr. Jerome, curator of the Edger Allen Poe House and Museum in
Baltimore, said Poe may have had problems with alcohol when he was younger but by the time he
died at forty he almost always avoided ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Chulalongkorn University Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand. A doctor that studies rabies and treats them
all of the time, even thinks that Poe had rabies. Rabies victims frequently exhibit hydrophobia, or fear

Eric Maria Remarque s All Quiet On The Western Front
The effects of war on young people lead to the regression of humanity. This statement will be proved
by referring to the novel by Eric Maria Remarque, All Quiet on the Western Front, poems from
Wilfred Owen, Anthem of the Doomed Youth,, To any dead officer , They as well as Christ and the
soldier by Siegfried Sassoon, music lyrics from Roger Whittaker s I Don t Believe In If Anymore, art

Lieutenant Heinrich Wagner and portrait of an Officer. When referring to the above mentioned genres
we will be focusing on the dehumanisation, demoralisation and disillusionment of war that leads to the
regression of humanity.
One of the paramount effects of war on young people is the dehumanization of humanity.
Dehumanization is the psychological occurrence of demonizing the enemy or one self, manufacture
them to appear less than human and therefore not worthy of humane behaviour (Maiese, 2003).
Maiese (2003) adds that it can lead to amplified viciousness, human rights violations, war corruptions,

Parenting Is A Legacy For Children
Parenting: A Legacy For Children
Parenting is a process of supporting children through the ups and downs of life. From infancy to
adulthood, parents play an important role in the development of their children. They are expected to
ensure the child s health and safety, prepare them to function as citizens of society, and teach them
about what is important in life. Many parents learn how to parent by looking at the way they were
raised. However, with the stresses and strains that families face today, it is also a good idea to be open
to adding parenting tools to their toolbox. These tools are taught at places such as a parent education
group for ex offenders. Most of them have children of various ages. A social worker leads the group to
enhance their knowledge and skill sets and share topics such as being present in the child s life,
praising a child, effective discipline, and unconditional love. Parents need to be present in their child s
life, more connected, despite all the struggles and chaos of living. Both child and parent need to get
sufficient sleep, which enables them to function better. When people are sleep deprived, they do not
perform as well and are likely to be irritable. Waiting until the weekend or a day off from regular
activities to catch up on sleep does not work. Also, cell phones need a break. Constantly being
attached to cell phones hinders people s abilities to interact. Parents who model this behavior may
make their child feel that phone conversations are more important than interactions with them. There
was a woman who said hello to a teenager while in the community. In response, the young man was
not sure of what to say. He was so used to talking and texting to people on his cell phone that he found
it difficult to talk to someone in person. In addition, join in on your child s fun. If a child is doing arts
and crafts, playing a sport, or watching a TV show, participate in the activities. Even when a parent is
not physically able to do a sport, they can ask their child about it. They can also go to sporting events
and talk about the activity. The main point is to stay connected to your child and their interests. In
response to the social worker s presentation, various

Italian Renaissance Art
One of the most influential periods in the history of Western Art is the Italian Renaissance, between
1400 1600 CE. During this time art flourished, and many of the techniques and advancements of art
would continue to be taught in art schools that spread across Europe and lay as the foundation of art in
modern society. However, some of the main values taught from the Renaissance also caused the
resurgence of art at the time, and were originally adapted from the Ancient Greek (Visual arts...).

Even within the Hellenistic period, between 323 to 30 BCE and the ending period of Greeks in power,
advancements were made to not only movement of the human figure in sculptor but what expression

patronage of Roman leaders came the marble statue of Lacoƶn and his sons, depicting story of the
Gods revenge on the Trojan priest after his failed attempt to warn the Trojan army of the Greek s plans
with the wooden horse. Attributed to three sculptors, Athanadoros, Hagesandros, and Polydoros of
Rhodes, this marble statue stands 7 10 Ā½ tall, the tallest being Lacoƶn himself in the center and his
two sons on opposite sides. The three men are twisting and contorting their bodies, attempting to free
themselves from the massive snake sent by the gods, all three of their expressions show they are in
pain from the strung. Lacoƶn s face is contorted with the most agony from the snake biting him in his
left hip (162). The expression of pain within all three figures shows the evolution of how Greek
sculptors depicted humans in art, along with the advancement to how movement is portrayed. This
statue would also play a role in inspiring how sculptors of the Renaissance would work with marble,
and was even unearthed in Rome during this time, in 1506, in front of

Willis O Brien s Use Of Stop Motion In King Kong
King Kong (1933)
The 1933 film King Kong was one of the first feature films to use stop motion as a practical effect. In
that time, it was the only way to create the creatures such as those and have them interact with the live

For the film, 74 different Kong were created, they were all alike, their only difference being in their

  • 2. Rising Action In George Connell And Finney s Most... Most Interesting Plot Imagine a story with lots of action, well developed plot structure, and interesting resolutions while teaching life lessons. This is the dream of an enthusiastic reader. When reading a story, a reader looks for something that will quickly engage his or her attention. Rising action in a story satisfies this need. In Most Dangerous Game the main character faces many challenges, namely the danger of being stalked by General Zaroff, an avid hunter who idolizes hunting and has taken it to an extreme. Similarly, Tom in Contents of A Dead Man s Pocket faces danger and possible death when he walks onto a high ledge. To help engage the reader, Most Dangerous Game and Contents of A Dead Man s Pocket both use thrilling, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both climaxes deliver anxiety to the reader through intense, exciting action. First, the climax of Most Dangerous Game surprises the reader. A man, who had been hiding in the curtains of the bed, was standing there. Rainsford! screamed the general. How in God s name did you get here? Swam, said Rainsford. I found it quicker than walking through the jungle (Connell 52). This climax is very exciting and unexpected because the reader assumes Rainsford s fate when he jumps off the cliff into the ocean. Now Rainsford confronts his hunter providing a climax that leaves the reader with anxiety, prodding him or her to read on. Contents Of A Dead Man s Pocket also leaves the reader with unease at the climax. As Tom reaches for the paper on the dangerous ledge, the reader reaches with him. He couldn t quite touch it, and his knees now were pressed against the wall; he could bend them no farther (Finney 30). Uncertainty fills the reader s mind in a similar way to Most Dangerous Game . In contrast Finney s climax comes earlier in the story, which gives more time for the resolution of the story. These stories both have breath taking climaxes, written to produce anxiety in the reader, nudging them to read on. Finally, the resolution of the stories shows the main difference between the two. Connell provides a dry resolution, giving few clues to the reader about the fate of Zaroff. After Zaroff loses the game, Rainsford confronts Zaroff, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Communicable Disease Paper Communicable Disease Paper Communicable disease, is an infectious disease transmissible, (as from person to person) by direct contact with an infected individual or the individual s discharges or by indirect means (as by a vector) (Merriam Webster, 2011, p. 1). Understanding how communicable diseases are spread is important in reducing the significant affliction of disease in low income communities across the United States and increase prevention, awareness, and safety. The objective of this paper is to discuss the communicable disease s human immunodeficiency virus and acquired immune deficiency syndrome known as HIV and AIDS. In addition to describing HIV/AIDS, a brief overview of prevention, environmental factors, and social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Influence of Lifestyles, Socioeconomic Status and Disease Management In present society and in some lifestyles and media outlets, sleeping around is overly glorified to children and young adults; the influence is the more the person sleeps around, the more popular the person becomes. Particularly in the African American culture, video s depict rappers, surrounded by women dressed scantly, influencing more provocative behavior among children and teens; promoting sexual innuendos. A lower socioeconomic status may produce individuals with lower education, poor health, and poverty. A person living at a lower socioeconomic status may not be able to obtain decent employment to acquire health benefits; living in a poverty stricken neighborhood will not contain accurate or up to date medical resources and services and sexual education will become shelved as a non important issue within these communities. For HIV/AIDS management the individual must receive up to date information and education on available HIV/AIDS resources, build a plan specifically created by his or her physician, obtain equipment, and supplies necessary for treatment, and assess nutritional information, which is extremely vital in preventing additional illnesses. Furthermore, the individual may want to build a support team including his or her partner, and family members, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. There s A Certain Slant Of Light Emily Dickinson s poem There s a certain Slant of Light is a powerful reflection on the pain of depression and other internal struggles. As a recluse, Dickinson most likely was familiar with these feelings and conveys them in a way we can all relate to. Although cryptic at first, this poem communicates many universal emotions as well as an insight into Dickinson s state of mind. Stanza one opens with Dickinson referring to a certain Slant of light, Winter Afternoon . This light is described in the rest of the work, although it is not the main idea. Dickinson capitalizes Slant and Winter Afternoon to the characterize the setting. The Slant of the light refers to the time of day, morning or evening, and Winter Afternoons describes the season ... • 5. Penicillin s Discovery (noun) 1. An antibiotic or group of antibiotics produced naturally by certain blue moulds, now usually prepared synthetically. 2. A blue mould of a type that produces penicillin (Oxford University Press 2015) Penicillin was first discovered in 1928 and quickly became known as a miracle drug. Penicillin s areas of largest significance fall into three categories and this essay will briefly outline how Penicillin s discovery contributed historically, scientifically and in the military, particularly in the Second World War. The history of Penicillin s discovery can be accredited to fate, luck or just poor hygiene. It was Alexander Fleming who happened across Penicillin in September 1928 at St Mary s Hospital Medical School (Wood 2010, Ā¶14). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Meanwhile, the Oxford team was also using creative methods with the equipment at hand to culture Penicillin; making use of bed pans, milk churns and baths all rigged together. They were finally able to purify what they thought was enough for the first human trial on 12 February 1941. Albert Alexander, a policeman suffering from a severe infection was Penicillin s first patient. After seeing the results of this miracle drug it was obvious that if they had enough for a full course of the antibiotic, he would have been practically pulled from his deathbed to a full recovery. Unfortunately after receiving injections for 4 days, the realisation occurred that there was simply not enough to cure him and he later relapsed in the beginning of March (Wood 2010, Ā¶16 21). The Columbia team wasn t far behind them, when on 5 May 1941 they presented findings at a meeting of American Society for Clinical Investigation, after trailing on several patients. These findings made the front page of several newspapers, including the New York Times on 7 May 1941 (Oatman 2005, Ā¶14, 15). Penicillin was on its way to making global ... • 6. Cu Honor Code Analysis Hold Safety Paramount: Engineers must prioritize the safety, health and welfare of the public and should try to practice sustainability as often as possible. In order to do this, engineers must realize that major engineering decisions do impact the general public s well being and they must review their decisions to ensure that they are safe. Engineers with reasons to believe that a fellow engineer is not following the rules stated in Canon 1 must report this person to the authorities in charge. Service With Competence: Engineers should only work in areas where they are qualified, but they are allowed to accept assignments outside of their areas of expertise as long as they are only working on the portions of the jobs in which they are qualified. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Canon 3 states that engineers must always issue true statements, and code 3B states that engineers must be truthful in all reports, statements and testimonies. This is similar to the CU Honor Code, because the CU Honor Code was established in order to create a community of trust. In order to follow the CU Honor Code, one cannot cheat or plagiarise. This means that students must be honest and truthful when taking tests and doing homework. All of the work done by a student must be their own. The CU Honor Code also relates with ASCE code 5D and 5E. Canon 5 states that an engineer s merit speaks for their professional reputation. Code 5D states that engineers shall not misrepresent their academic or professional qualifications. If a student cheats or plagiarizes, they are misrepresenting their academic qualifications by turning in work that doesn t accurately display their academic capability. Code 5E states that engineers must give credit to fellow engineers where credit is due. Plagiarizing or copying someone else s work, robs that person from the credit they deserve, and gives the credit to a student who doesn t deserve it. Finally, the CU Honor Code relates to ASCE code 6A. Canon 6 states that engineers shall uphold the honor, integrity, and dignity of the engineering profession. The point of the CU Honor Code is for the students of CU Boulder to uphold the honor of the school. Code 6A states that engineers shall not knowingly engage in anything dishonest or unethical. Cheating or plagiarism in any form is unethical and dishonest because if a student turns in work with their name on it, even though the work done isn t their own, then this student is not telling the ... I need my own place where I can just be alone with no one to bother me. Worker: I hear you. But, what s the most important thing right now? What s your plan? Skill: Maintaining a focus on the goals. Reading the client: Is this guy going to help me get a room for me to rent? I keep insisting that that s what a need hoping that he ll offer me some help with that. Reading myself: I m feeling more confident that we can get on with the task of creating this treatment plan. I need to keep asking John specific questions about his plan of action or simply guide him in the process of coming up with ideas for setting goals and reaching for them. Evaluation: Staying on track with creating a treatment plan cannot be a rigid task. I need to stay open to being flexible and realize that if John is not ready to come up with specific plans for his post detox work on recovery then perhaps this is not the time to do that. Another try: I reflect on my questions and say something like: John, what do you suppose would be the consequences of your continued substance abuse? How willing are you to make changes to move in another direction? • 8. The Effect Of Temperature And Dissolved Oxygen... I. Introduction Anthropogenic climate change is causing hotter and drier conditions across the southwest United States. Decades of fire suppression campaigns have led to an accumulation of ladder fuels within forests across this region. Both of these factors are now contributing to more frequent and more extreme fires in recent years. These catastrophic fires cause significant changes to ground cover along stream corridors. The loss of ground cover significantly increases the amount of sediment entering watersheds, which can alter both temperature and dissolved oxygen levels throughout the system. The purpose of this paper is to examine the changes in water temperature and dissolved oxygen concentration associated with wildfire, how these changes can be controlled, how effective these controls are, and what more can be done. II. Temperature Fire can alter stream temperature in several different ways. First, and probably most short lived, is the immediate temperature spikes caused by the active burning. Second, fire has the potential to reduce overhead canopy cover, thus increasing light penetration and absorbance by the water. Finally, additions of large amounts of sediment (which increases the turbidity of water bodies) can increase the amount of light absorbed thereby increasing the water temperature. A Maori World In the context of a Maori world view the role of women is different from that of women in European culture; women played a key role in the collective of the whanau, hapu and iwi. There was no hierarchy of the sexes. This is exemplified in the Maori language, where both the possessive and personal pronouns are gender neutral. Mana wahine is a theoretical and methodological approach that explicitly examines the intersection of being Maori and female (Simmonds 11). Mana wahine isn t to be confused with Maori feminism, as this may confuse ideas with the Western concept of feminism. Key elements included in mana wahine are the concepts of whakapapa, wairua, and whanau (Hutchings 36). Many indigenous artists in Aotearoa New Zealand engage with mana wahine as inspiration, some with ties to decolonisation. These artists/designers use their work in reply to the dominant Pakeha culture and the history that is shared. Art/design that engages with mana wahine is often linked to decolonisation narratives the process by which the changes brought about under colonialism are undone. For mana wahine, it is a reclamation of indigenous narratives, like Maori women s narratives in cosmology. [...] Horror, however, has only a negative and paralysing effect; a wholly nihilistic and enduring condition of death and oppression (Wells 11). We learned that horror requires thought, memory, and imagination and that it must be separated by time from whatever experience or event inspired it, even if that event was terror, in our lecture on March 8th, and in a lecture on April 5th we connected the immediate fear of terror and the more prolonged and building experience of horror to common themes and tropes used in many, if not almost all horror films today, which involves the overall change in, and usually tightening, of space in order to elicit horror, and the growing distance in time that builds the experience of horror (Wynter 8 March, 5 April; Wells ... The Field Of Engaging Diverse Students Overview of the issue Despite valuable research in the field of engaging diverse students in science education, there is still a gap where these groups continue to be underrepresented and marginalized in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields (Brotman Moore, 2008). Research indicates that the problem arises early in the classroom where curriculum and classroom environment does not account for the increase of diverse students groups in the classroom. Furthermore, teacher might not be receiving professional development training that prepares them for teaching to multicultural schools, particularly schools that serve underrepresented communities (Sleeter, 2001). There are many theories of how Poe died such as alcoholism and rabies. Poe died of rabies not alcoholism. Dr. R. Michael Benitez explains that one fourth of rabies victims cannot remember being bitten (Pg. 187). There is no evidence that Poe was bitten, but it can take up to a year for symptoms to appear. When symptoms do appear the disease is a swift and brutal killer. Most patients die in a few days. (New York Times pg. 187). Poe was only alive for four days at the hospital and was confused and belligerent most of the time. Rabies victims frequently exhibit hydrophobia, or fear of water, because it is painful to swallow. The writer is so sensitive to alcohol that a glass of wine would make him violently ill for days. (New York Times pg.188). When referring to the above mentioned genres we will be focusing on the dehumanisation, demoralisation and disillusionment of war that leads to the regression of humanity. One of the paramount effects of war on young people is the dehumanization of humanity. Dehumanization is the psychological occurrence of demonizing the enemy or one self, manufacture them to appear less than human and therefore not worthy of humane behaviour (Maiese, 2003). Maiese (2003) adds that it can lead to amplified viciousness, human rights violations, war corruptions, and genocide. In All Quiet on the Western Front (1994), soldiers rarely saw the ... The soldier s appearance is almost beast like as if man has degraded to their former primitive state; this state is also noticeable in his drawing Feeling wounded. • 33. Parenting Is A Legacy For Children Parenting: A Legacy For Children Parenting is a process of supporting children through the ups and downs of life. From infancy to adulthood, parents play an important role in the development of their children. They are expected to ensure the child s health and safety, prepare them to function as citizens of society, and teach them about what is important in life. Many parents learn how to parent by looking at the way they were raised. However, with the stresses and strains that families face today, it is also a good idea to be open to adding parenting tools to their toolbox. These tools are taught at places such as a parent education group for ex offenders. Most of them have children of various ages. A social worker leads the group to enhance their knowledge and skill sets and share topics such as being present in the child s life, praising a child, effective discipline, and unconditional love. Parents need to be present in their child s life, more connected, despite all the struggles and chaos of living. Both child and parent need to get sufficient sleep, which enables them to function better. When people are sleep deprived, they do not perform as well and are likely to be irritable. Waiting until the weekend or a day off from regular activities to catch up on sleep does not work. Also, cell phones need a break. Constantly being attached to cell phones hinders people s abilities to interact. Parents who model this behavior may make their child feel that phone conversations are more important than interactions with them. There was a woman who said hello to a teenager while in the community. In response, the young man was not sure of what to say. He was so used to talking and texting to people on his cell phone that he found it difficult to talk to someone in person. In addition, join in on your child s fun. If a child is doing arts and crafts, playing a sport, or watching a TV show, participate in the activities. Even when a parent is not physically able to do a sport, they can ask their child about it. They can also go to sporting events and talk about the activity. The main point is to stay connected to your child and their interests. In response to the social worker s presentation, various ... Even within the Hellenistic period, between 323 to 30 BCE and the ending period of Greeks in power, advancements were made to not only movement of the human figure in sculptor but what expression they held (Gardner 153). During this period Greece had become providence to Rome, and under patronage of Roman leaders came the marble statue of Lacoƶn and his sons, depicting story of the Gods revenge on the Trojan priest after his failed attempt to warn the Trojan army of the Greek s plans with the wooden horse. Attributed to three sculptors, Athanadoros, Hagesandros, and Polydoros of Rhodes, this marble statue stands 7 10 Ā½ tall, the tallest being Lacoƶn himself in the center and his two sons on opposite sides.
