I Am Applying to the Master s in Computer Science Program
Aiming to carve a niche for myself in this broad area of Computer Science I apply to the Masters in
Computer Science Program in Jacobs School of Engineering at the University of California, San
Diego. This is the Program and the University for me which matches in all aspects of what I seek. The
buzz about the enabling environment within the Computer Science and Engineering Department,
which requires students to push their limits and helps them do so through providing avant garde
course selection and cutting edge infrastructure is a main attraction. The work of Dr. Pavel Pevzner
and Prof Henrick Jensen on Fragment Assembly in DNA sequencing and Global illumination using
photon mapping is exactly what I would want to be part of. I understand that admission is difficult and
then performing once admitted in a group of students that are competitive and brilliant will be even
tougher, I apply because I know that I will be able to perform.
Having lost my parents by the tender age of 12, I understood the true importance of focus,
determination and effort from a very early stage in my life. Life has been what it has and I knew I had
to build my own life. There was no ready platform and thus I did just that. Eligibility for Computer
Engineering in the best engineering college in the state Nirma Institute of Technology came backed by
effort and determination to make it. Focus that I must find my place within Computers was something
that I was aware of from day one. Nevertheless

The Rationale For Undertaking The Research
The rationale for undertaking the research:
The topic of expansion has always resulted in competitiveness between various airports, but different
approaches are taken towards those airports requesting for more runway expansion. Heathrow Airport
is facing constant debates with nearby residents for a third runway appeal. The main concern with
Heathrow s third runway relates to the environmental and social concerns residents will face if the
expansion proposal is approved. Undertaking this particular research would provide a better
understanding about the local residents opinions, whose daily activities may change and residential
houses which may be affected; contributing to sustainability concerns. These opinions are important as
residents deserve to express their interpretations about the runway expansion. Subsequently, the
research will add significant value to the airport industry and add further theory to the current updates
they have on Heathrow s third runway expansion.
The context of your study:
In the vast and developing aviation industry, expansion has become a key priority for many UK airport
businesses. Airports in general are looking for chances to grow and provide excellent services, in order
to fulfil passenger needs. Secretary of State for Transport (2013) mentions how the Airport
Consultative Committees allow new opportunities such as airport infrastructure and growth strategies
to be discussed. Although the consideration of airport expansion may be

Baseball As A National Pastime
Mary McGrory, an American journalist, writes, Baseball is what we were, and football is what we
have become ( Brainy Quotes ). Baseball is out and football is in. Only 27% of kids from ages 9 13
play baseball in the world today. There is no longer Take me out to the ball game, but let me watch the
game on my TV. Baseball as a national pastime has experienced a decline in popularity because of the
increase of popularity of football, length of the season and cost of a game, and length of plays and the
game itself. Some fans believe that the increase of popularity of sports other than baseball, such as
football, can be attributed to the average size of football stadiums and the average game attendance.
Americans in general like for things to be bigger and better and the statistics for football stadium size
and attendance show football facts far exceed baseball facts. For example, the Dallas Cowboys
stadium is the largest NFL stadium seating a whopping 80,000 plus 20,000 standing. By comparison,
the Los Angeles Dodgers, of the MLB, has the biggest stadium in baseball seating 56,000 ( ESPN ).
These stats show the increase in popularity of football compared to the decrease of popularity of
baseball. Research shows the Cowboys have demand for more seating because of the number of
tickets sold per game. The average game attendance for an NFL game is greater compared to that of an
MLB game. In fact, the Cowboys sell an average of 92,867 tickets per game. On the other hand,

Essay about America and the Normandy Invasion
The year was 1944, and the United States had now been an active participant in the war against Nazi
Germany for almost three and a half years. During this time, numerous battles had occurred which
were fought with determination and intensity on both sides. Amongst the many invasions of World
War II, there is one day which stands out more in the minds of many American soldiers than the
others. That day was June 6, 1944, more commonly known as D Day, part of the invasion of
Normandy, known as Operation Overlord. This operation was the largest amphibious assault in
history. It was a day in which thousands of young Americans, who poured onto the beaches of France,
matured faster than they would have ever imagined. They were not prepared for ... Show more content

Troops, armour, and equipment arrivals were timed to the minute. Naval barrage landed first on the
beach at 6:30 a.m., immediately followed by thirty two light assault tanks known as DD tanks to
further subdue fortified positions and provide cover for the oncoming troops (These were held on
large freight boats known as LCTs). In the wake of this attack came the American 2nd Battalion, 8th
Infantry in twenty Higgens boats, another type of transport designed to hold a thirty man team. They
were followed by the 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry, bringing engineers and naval demolition teams in
thirty two more Higgens boats.6 Wave after wave of troops and equipment, containing bulldozers, and
the light and mobile Sherman Tank (see appendix B) continued to arrive. Before the assaults began,
the planners, including Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower, hoped everything would stick to
the precise schedule. This hope was not a reality, as some craft landed too late, others too early, and
some off course as far as a kilometre south of the target. There were many factors which resulted in
the wronging of the time table. Tides, wind, waves, and a thick cover of smoke were all partially
responsible for the trouble, while the largest factor were the mines placed just off

Anne Dudley Research Paper
Anne Dudley was born on March 20, 1612. She grew up in cultured circumstances and was a well
educated woman for her time. She was tutored in history, some languages, and literature as well. At
the age of 16, she married Simon Bradstreet. On June 14, 1630, Anne finally felt American soil for the
first time in her life. The Bradstreet family had moved to what is now called, Cambridge,
Massachusetts. Anne had her first child in 1632, his name was Samuel, and he was born in Newe
Towne, which that s what it was called back then.
Despite her poor health, she had 8 children and achieved a comfortable social standing, and she had

Her grave location has been uncertain for years and years, but some historians believe her body is in
the old burying ground at the academy of road and Osgood Street in North Andover. A couple of years
had passed after Anne had passed away, Thomas had already gone and married again to another Anne
but her last name is Gardiner. In 1697, Simon Bradstreet had died and was buried in Salem. That area
of Merrimack Valley is now called, The Valley of the Poets.
Anne Bradstreet s education gave her advantages, which allowed her to write about politics, history,
medicine, and theology legally. She use to have her own library of over 9000 books but over half of
them were destroyed in the fire when her house burned down. Her house burning down actually
inspired her to write the poem Upon the Burning of Our House July 10th, 1666. She was constantly
reflecting her anger and grief from the tragedy of her house burning and instead of being mad, she
looks towards god and heaven as a consolation. Whenever she was a younger writer, she wrote 5 epic

Technological Singularity
In a guest column, Computers vs. Brains on the Opinionator of The New York Times, Sandra Aamodt
and Sam Wang analyzed some of the arguments by inventor Raymond Kurzweil, one of the leading
inventors of our time, in his most recent futurist manifesto: The Singularity Is Near: When Humans
Transcend Biology (2005). Kurzweil estimates that machines will inevitably be able to surpass our
thinking capabilities within a few decades. Kurzweil s speculative reasoning has been heavily debated
and challenged. In Aamodt and Wang s article they point out that there are fundamental differences
between our brains and computers that makes Kurzweil s predictions improbable. The purpose of this

New revolutionary technologies are emerging fast to address this issue of increased electrical power
generation and storage needs. An example is teams of MIT scientists that have created a synthetic, self
assembling chloroplast that can be break and reassemble repeatedly, a self restoring solar cell. (Dillow,
2010). Another example is a company called Bloom Energy, which is producing tiny fuel cell boxes
called Bloom Boxes. Two of these can power an average U.S. home. Each device is about the size of a
standard brick. Although they need to be surrounded by a larger unit that takes in an energy source,
they are still about the size of a refrigerator. This alternative is already being tested by companies such
as Google and eBay (Siegler, 2010). One striking feature of brain tissue is its compactness. The
memory capacity in this small volume is potentially immense. For computer capacity, to begin to
approach that of a human brain, as we get closer to the physical limits of silicon and other materials
used in current computing components like computer chips and memory; manufacturers would
possibly need to experiment with other production techniques and materials. As humans have evolved,
we have developed the ability to make fast inferences in very complex situations. We can make logical
approximations and find good enough solutions. This type of decision making will undoubtedly be
hard to match but there are already robots

How Soda Companies Reduce The Consumption Of Soda Drinks...
After reviewing the problem it is clear that our organization cannot sit back idly and hope for the best.
Soda companies have continued to struggle with the political interference in the market. In the past
few years, nations all over the world have passed taxes on soda beverages. France passed a tax on
soda and sales dropped by 3%. In Mexico, sales dropped by 2% after a similar tax was passed. And
though the drops in sales are alarming, it is not event the biggest threat. Ultimately, the goal of the
politicians is to drastically decrease the consumption of soda drinks. Their attempt to pass these taxes
is a power play to make soda beverages viewed as similar to cigarette companies. It is imperative that
we do everything in our power to stop these taxes from occurring. So far we have been successful in
combating taxes in San Francisco and New York City. We have done this through a combination of
business and political actions. Through our research we have been able to come up with a
comprehensive list of strategies to counteract the soda tax. This list can be broken down into two main
areas, business actions and political actions. Political: The political strategies would be utilized to
strike down all efforts to pass a soda tax or any other legislation aimed at reducing the consumption of
Coca Cola products. These strategies would include political marketing, and financial donations.
Option 1: Political Marketing In this approach we would attempt to external with our

Termite-Hunting Ants Megaponera Analysis
NPR published an article about the termite hunting ants Megaponera analis on April 12th, and I
decided to compare how well their piece summarized the original scientific journal s findings.
Through reading both articles I have come to the conclusion that NPR summary of the scientific
journal is quite vague. The entirety of the NPR article had very little information about the scientific
journals findings. In my opinion there were more deficits in this article rather than benefits that
showed the true scope of the study. I understand that it is aimed at an audience much different that the
scientific journal but I still believe it is far too simplistic. However, there were a few benefits that
helped to capture the original research journals findings.
One of these benefits include their inclusion of the information about what type of ant Megaponera
analis is and how these ants march out in the search of food. Another benefit could be how the article
describes how these ants were carrying their own kind as well as termites. Lastly, this article includes

Unlike the article the scientific journal talks about the value of the rescuing behavior, the real
component of hormones, and the focus of the behavior. The article does mention the word hormone as
being a possible factor in why they are rescuing their fellow species but doesn t say anything else.
Within this article, I also see a hint of anthropomorphism when they compare these ants to something
a solider in a war would do. They also talk about the empathy that these ants may be having for those
ants who have been hurt during the hunt. I would also really like to see the interview that they had
with the main researcher because it appears they must have cut a lot of stuff out. These are just a few
of the many problems that I had when comparing these two

ABCDE Model Analysis
Learned optimism is the idea that a positive emotional state of mind can be cultivated, by constantly
challenging negative thoughts. A theorem based on cognitive behavioral thinking CBT , the ABCDE
model provides the basis for this discussion. The ABCDE model is essential as it provides immediate
benefits in regards to building optimism by recognising and disputing negative thoughts. This process
allows people to recognize how you can think about situations, allowing them to create new patterns
of thinking, reinforce positive thought patterns and challenge negative ones. These processes are
essential in the goal of the ABCDE model, granting the opportunity to analyse all the opportunities

analysed the effect of the ABC technique on preadolescence, using it as a optimism intervention tool.
The students selected to undertake the program demonstrated greater optimism and less depressive
symptoms contrasted to the students who were not exposed to the ABC method. This clearly supports
the effectiveness for the ABC and the ABCDE model. Furthermore, Cunningham (2002) completed a
similar program examining the effectiveness of a universal school based prevention program to teach
optimistic thinking skills based on REBT theories. Children who participated in the program displayed
improvements in coping efficiency and lesser depressive symptoms. These finding support the
feasibility of the ABCDE model as it is based on the same

Star Wars Argumentative Analysis
When Ronald Reagan unveiled the Strategic Defense Initiative, the whole world laughed. The movie
Star Wars had just come out, and the description of this new laser defense system seemed more at
home on the screen of a science fiction movie than in the arsenal of the American military. People
today still call the plan absurd, but is it really? Well, the technology is still not quite to the level that
Ronald Reagan had hoped in his speech, but it is not as far fetched as one would think. In fact, this

Online Learning Vs. Traditional Classroom Education
Imagine waking up, eating breakfast, going to school, and completing your course work without
leaving the comfort of your home or even your pajamas. The idea of attending school online and at
personal convenience is an option that many high school and college students have difficulty passing
up. In today s education system, students have the option to attend school in a traditional classroom
setting or attend online in the comfort of their own homes. Both options have their benefits. However,
in most cases, a traditional classroom education better prepares students K 12 for their futures by
encouraging self discipline and communication between teachers and peers. Online learning, also
known as distance learning, is growing rapidly throughout the United States. The 2012 survey of
online learning determined that the number of students taking at least one online course has now
surpassed 6.7 million (Online Learning Consortium, 2012). With the 2014 online learning statistics
being released on February 5, it is expected that the number of students has grown significantly in the
past two years and is only set to increase into 2015. A traditional classroom setting exposes students to
what it will be like in their future workplace. In a classroom, students are expected to communicate
face to face with their peers and teachers. Every time students attend school in a traditional classroom,
they interact with their peers and learn what it is like to work amongst people that they

Confusion and Personal Identity in Rip Van Winkle Essay
Rip Van Winkle tells the story of a man who, on a trek into the Kaatskill mountains, mysteriously
sleeps away twenty years of his life during the Revolutionary War. When he returns home, he finds
that things have dramatically changed; King George no longer has control over the colonies, and many
of his friends have either died or left town. At this point, the story reaches its climax, where Van
Winkle realizes that his life may be forever changed.
To this point, Rip Van Winkle has had only to deal with the change in his surroundings. Having no

qualities.
In this selection, however, no effort is made to disguise these traits. The man is ...apparently as lazy,
and certainly as ragged. No disclaimers. Rip Van Winkle notices these traits, and he is ...now
completely confounded. His confusion has increased, but confounded also refers to shame the shame
he might feel about his past.
As the confusion increases, Rip begins to question his identity. When the man with the cocked hat
asks who Rip was and what was his name, we are more concerned with Rip s identity as a human
being than the answers to these simplistic questions, and so is Rip, for these questions become of
greater importance when we consider how they concern Rip s inner self. He responds that ...I am not
myself, and he enters a near panic as he describes his sad plight. His thoughts become shorter. The
words used are shorter.
Rip Van Winkle is losing control of the situation. He desperately wants to believe that he is still
himself, but he can find nothing to support his claims; When coupled with the self examination of his
past life, we see that Rip Van Winkle is having trouble discerning the truth within himself.

Hybridity In Garcia Marquez s Of Love And Other Demons
In the novel Of Love and Other Demons, the author uses a few kinds of magic to bring out a few
themes, mainly the themes of love and hybridity.
The author uses Sierva Maria s hair as a magic symbol for love. The novel is framed by a description
of Sierva Maria s hair. Firstly in the introduction, Garcia Marquez sees a stream of living hair the
intense color of copper (pg 6) pouring out of the Santa Clara crypt. In the final line of the novel,
strands of hair gushed like bubbles as they grew back on her shaved head (pg 109). Both usage of hair
as a magic symbol shows Garcia Marquez s use of magical realism. It is unrealistic for hair to
continue living and growing in death, and also for it to grow so quickly and immediately after Sierva

After being bitten by the dog, Sierva Maira is believed to have contracted rabies. While the Africans
consider it quite mundane, the Spaniards read it as purely demonic because of their belief in the
superstition of fearing animals and what relates to animalism inherent in human beings. Therefore, the
issue of being possessed by the demons dramatizes a trepidation. Marquez paints a vivid picture of the
hybridity in the novel that is highlighted by the demonic magic by portraying the difference in how the
blacks and the whites faces this issue. In the novel, the Bishop sees rabies as a form that the demon
may take to enter an innocent body. The superstitious Abbess to whom Sierva Maria is entrusted finds
something supernatural and portentous in every ordinary event; the fact that she did not notice the girl
s presence in her courtyard for several hours meant to her that the girl must have been rendered
invisible by witchcraft. While the servants sat enchanted (pg 49) by Sierva Maria s singing, the
Abbess raised the crucifix she wore around her neck (pg 49). The use of demonic magic brought on by
the bite of the dog thus highlights the different treatment that is received by Sierva Maria, therefore
bringing the reader s focus to the theme of hybridity in the

The Pandemic Of Influenza And Vaccination
Every year, millions of people start talking about the influenza virus and getting their vaccines as the
flu season approaches, which starts around the October November period and reaches its peak
between December and March. Therefore, public health officials around the world and in the U.S in
particular are constantly challenged by properly preparing for the annual influenza dilemma, given
that this viruses, and other respiratory viruses, are a serious health threat to the U.S population and the
world as a whole. Furthermore, what makes the influenza virus even more challenging to control is
that it can mutate rapidly and reassort to form new strains, having the ability to reside in multiple
animal hosts. In fact, many scientists and researchers have been doing in depth intensive research so
as to understand the mechanism behind this unique characteristic of the virus, try to find new ways to
control it, and explore different areas of protection and vaccination.
Before jumping into talking about the different features of Influenza, ranging from its pathogenesis
and virulence, to the transmission and treatment of the disease, it is necessary to mention the slight but
important difference between seasonal influenza, pandemic influenza and zoonotic influenza.
What is seasonal Influenza?
First of all, the name Influenza is derived from the Latin word for influence , and it is an infectious
disease that is caused by the RNA viruses from the Orthomyxoviridae family:

Legalization Of Polygamy In The United States
In today s developing world it is common for people to desire and be affectionate with more than one
spouse. It seems difficult for one person, man or woman to commit to being with one spouse,
therefore the divorce rates are increasing every day. The question remains whether this act should be
legalized or not.
Polygamy is having more than one spouse. There are different types of polygamy; these include
polygamy where a man has multiple wives, polyandry in which a woman has multiple husbands, and
group marriage where a family consists of multiple husbands and wives. Polygamy is definitely the
most popular of the three listed. In the United States the practice of any form of polygamy is illegal
and due to this law, many adherents of the lifestyle stays hidden. My perspective of polygamy is that
having more than one spouse should remain illegal because marriage means committing to one person
alone.
Having more than one spouse can cause many issues for the family. Financial issues, lack of attention
and affection to the other wives, one of the wives may feel like the husband is giving more attention ...

Polygamy brings many problems in a family life, but some people support it because it doesn t

in the United States is a great way to save families from suffering. Polygamy doesn t only give a bad
effect for the wives but for the children s psychology. Polygamy can also encourage the idea that
women are considered objects that men can own. Eventually, this can lead to abuse and other issues

Black Hole Of Technology Summary
The black hole of endless, unimportant streams of technology enabled information is devouring
everyone living in the 21st century. Words once said by Leena Khan highlighting the downfalls of
technology. Leena Khan in the writing, Black Hole of Technology argues much better points than
Stefan Etienne in the writing, Teens and Technology Share a Future. Consisting of strong points,
having highly effective structure and claims, and it has good structure are all reasons The Black Hole
of Technology is superior to Teens and Technology.
The passage, Black Hole of Technology has many points that stand out. The author had reasonable
opinions which were shown from a real experience the author explained. The text has strong reasons
like the fact that technology isolates us from the rest of the world, keeping us indoors. When Leena s
friends were all glued to their phones, she said, I, on the other hand, glanced out the window
separating us from the beautiful weather outside. This proves that technology is not always the best

How Did The French Revolution Affect Morocco
In the 17th and 18th centuries Morocco wanted to be colonized by both the French and the Spanish.
This caused great tension between the two and lead to much fighting. In 1904, France and Spain
agreed on a conclusion that Morocco would be split into zones of French and Spanish influence. Spain
got to control a small portion of the southwest that became to be known as the Spanish Sahara; while
the French controlled the rest of Morocco. The colonization of Morocco contributed many
economical, political and social advances throughout history that are still seen in modern day.
Economical effects have impacted Morocco widely. Trade is one of Morocco s strong points. Morocco
traded items with the EU and, all together, was worth approximately 32 billion American dollars in
2013 (Trade). The EU took in many supplies from Morocco, but there were three main areas that stood
out. Those areas included machinery and transport equipment, agricultural products, and clothing
(Trade). Machinery and transport equipment was shown to be the most dominate area for trading. The

Causes And Consequences Of Malaria
Today, the leading cause of death and most serious health concern in Nigeria is Malaria. All but 10%
of malaria cases in the tropical African region occur in Nigeria. Malaria accounts for 30% of deaths in
children below the age of five, a quarter of deaths in infants, and just above ten percent of deaths in
mothers (1, 7). Common symptoms of malaria in adults are headaches, weakness, fever, aches, high
temperatures and loss of appetite. In children excess sleeping, nausea, and vomiting are additional
symptoms (7). The burden of malaria in Nigerian is tremendous due to its detrimental impact on the
physical and emotional health of the people and on the economic growth of the country.
Malaria is caused by the bite of an anopheles gambiae mosquito with a plasmodium parasite inside.
There are four different protozoa, all part of the plasmodium genus, that can cause malaria:
Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium ovale, Plasmodium malaria, and Plasmodium falciparum. In Nigeria
98% of cases of malaria are due to the P. falciparum species, which causes the most severe form of
malaria resulting in death (3). Nigeria is affected by malaria severely due to its climate, 70 90 degrees

Analysis of the Annual Report of General Dynamics
According to the latest results issued by General Dynamics on January 28, 2012 the company s
previous year s objectives were met (overall) and will continue to be met in the future. The company
announced that full year revenue for 2011 was $32.7 billion and that earnings per share rose from
$6.82 per share (2010) to $6.93 per share (2011). According to its Annual Report, General Dynamics
operates four separate divisions; Aerospace, Combat Systems, Marine Systems, and Information
Systems and Technology. Each division is responsible for its own profitability and according to the
recent press release the company employs approximately 95,000 individuals worldwide. The company
touts itself as a market leader in business aviation; land and expeditionary combat systems, armaments
and munitions, shipbuilding and marine systems, and information and technology (p 3). The company
s objective in previous years was to continue to address the growth of each division, both separately
and as a whole. Based on the current backlog of approximately $57.4 billion at the end of 2011, one
could surmise that the growth (or at least sustainability) of the company is in fine mettle. Additionally,
the new G650 Gulfstream aircraft recorded the highest number of orders for new aircraft since the
introduction ¦in 2008 . It would seem therefore that at least the aviation division is on strong footing
for the next several years. Combat Systems (munitions and armaments) is also doing well.

Discovering Netherlands
During this past Spring I found myself traveling to The Netherlands to comfort my niece after a
terrible loss. This has been my second trip to this beautiful country even though it was not a vacation

I arrived to Amsterdam but my destination was a new city for me The Hague, what a surprise! My
niece and her husband were renting a condo with a stunning view of Scheveningen beach. It is a
beautiful place with a large pier and all kind of restaurants, hotels and children attractions to entertain
locals and tourist. The weather was a little chill but the sun shone over the beach making the scene just
unforgettable. Full of people relaxing and having fun. The sun is really appreciated there, people does
not want to miss a bit of it since the winter days are very short. We walked the original pier and sat at
a restaurant to see the kids play and the adults enjoying a beer or a glass of wine.
This city has many International buildings and it is the main residence for the royal family. The
architecture and the gardens are amazing. I photographed almost every sculpted garden full with the
most beautiful tulips in all possible colors. It was impossible to ... Show more content on

was incredible to see the parade of floats, cars decorated and music bands in a very festive and happy

flowers, from lilies, carnations, tulips and much more put together to form big scenes and themes of
animals, flowers, cars, different cultures were also represented all in flowers. Also trucks giving away
small plants and seeds as a token of their celebration. At the end we enjoyed a delicious ice cream and

Descriptive Essay On Basketball Team
Basketball Team One day my mom told me that I was on the Upward Basketball Team, a church
league for basketball. I was furious because I did not like basketball at all, but my mom loved
basketball, which is why she wanted me to play on the team.
I am not playing on the basketball team! I exclaimed.
Give it a chance. my mom pleaded.
No, I don t want to! Please don t make me do this, I begged as I banged my hand on the counter of our
island.
Please, give it a chance and then if you still don t like it, you don t have to do it. Ok?
Fine, I shouted and I started stomping up to my room.
Wait, your first game is on Saturday, she added.
Is there practice before the game?
Yes, but you are going to miss it because of gymnastics practice.
UGH, I groaned. So the rest of the night, I was stressing out over the first game because I had never
played basketball before. I didn t get to practice with my team. I don t even know my coach or
teammates. Why did my mom have to sign me up for basketball without even asking me?
My stomach was in knots. My heart was pounding. It was 30 minutes before my first basketball game
ever. My mom and I had arrived at the arena. It looked like it was just built with shiny red paint
everywhere except on the doors. The double doors were a dull brown color. As I walked in, I was so
overwhelmed. The building was not only enormous but also packed with tons of people. Over all of
the people, I thought that I recognized one of them. There

The Effects Of Recycling On The American People Today
When one hears the word recycle, they imagine an image of a trashcan with green arrows. One may
think that throwing plastic and paper products into a bin will save the planet. Not many know the
process of what happens behind the scenes. Others are unaware of its effects on America. There exists
proof that its lasting effects are beneficial. This may sound too good to be true and there are many
questions asked. How does recycling work, and what are its effects on the American people today?
These questions address the process of recycling, the pros versus cons of its cost, and its
environmental impact in America. Recycling has been going on for millennia. During ancient Rome,
people would recycle bronze coins and melt them down into a statue. In times of war, countries would
gather all of their metal together and recycle them into weapons. History has continually utilized
recycling for gain. Most products of recycling before the 90 s consisted of waste material, glass, and
plastics. After that time, electronics were brought into the mix. Recently, recycling itself has become
more popularized in the last 30 years. There are various ads on billboards, television, and the Internet
about it. Recycling has shown through history that it is beneficial. As people become more aware of
their environment and its dangers, they can start to understand and do something to help. Recycling
happens with many different kinds of materials. According to the EPA, Paper and paperboard account

The Representation Of The Society Through Art
Chinese Literature Student Name Institution Affiliation Chinese Literature Throughout the human
revolution, the representation of the society through art has been a common phenomenon. On the
advent of literary skills of writing, people could represent their world better than before. However, the
artists were only allowed to present the social ideas in the acceptable or the classical ways.
Unfortunately, this traditional method of conveying knowledge or ideas was limited and somehow
unrealistic of what was truly happening in the community. The language had to be polished and
altered to fit the social standards. Nevertheless, as the traditional forms of leadership shifted slowly
from the feudal to more democratic ones, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The diary is meant to brief the visiting friend on the man s behavior and thoughts while suffering from
the psychiatric disorder. Interestingly, Xun starts this story by using classical writing when introducing
the sane friend but totally switches to vernacular when writing the content of the madman. The
vernacular use enables the author to speak of the society as it is, using the very words that are
employed in the society. Therefore, this makes his work more realistic. Furthermore, the themes that
the author employs are authentic as well. Through realism writing movement, Xun criticizes the four
thousand years old feudal Chinese system which has perpetuated human cannibalism. Through an
insane man, the author exposes the real tribulations that everyday people go through and have come to
perceive it as part and parcel of their lives. Also, Xun uses characterization to bring out the issues that
would be considered uncomfortable in such governance. Therefore, the madman character, who has
the social freedom to say anything and is more likely to be ignored, enables Xun to agonize the feudal
system injustices. Apart from characterization, Xun employs symbolism and hyperbole in his work. In
A Madman s Diary, the author uses cannibalism to symbolize the feudal Chinese system, which for
thousands of years has enabled the wealthy to further benefit off the poor. As a result, the gap between
the poor and the rich would never be bridged. Through the diarist, it is

The Magnetic Field Of Magnets
Abstract Summary
Magnets have a magnetic field surrounding them and these fields is the magnetism force that the
magnet poses of an object. On a large scale, the Earth is a magnet which also has a magnetic field.
Magnets also has North and South poles which can flip. The amount of magnetic material attracted to
the magnet, allows the magnet s poles to flip. Flipping on the earth s magnet could cause destruction
on the earth. The magnetic field protects earth from solar radiation.
Purpose of the Experiment:
The purpose of this experiment is to discover if a magnet physically turns or if the magnetic field
weakens to allow the North and South poles to flip.
Methods:
Lay the bar magnet on a flat surface so that it is facing a particular direction other than North. This
allows to see if the magnet physically towards the North.
Place some nuts and bolts on the magnet (same amount throughout the experiment)
Tip magnet upside down and observe how many nuts and bolts fall off of the magnet.
Record observations.
Repeat the above steps several times, adding the same amount of nuts and bolts at the same distance as
used in the beginning of the experiment. Every time that the experiment is repeated, observe and
record the amount of falling nuts and bolts
Conclusion:
The hypothesis was correct but is was also wrong because the magnetic field did weaken but the
magnet also physically turned. This shows that for magnetic poles to flip, the magnetic field needs to
weaken

Comfort Women Research Paper
Comfort Women and the Japanese Denial of Forced Prostitution During the time of the Japanese
Empire, when Japan had taken control of Korea and was attempting to expand its territory further, the
Japanese military utilized sex slaves and prostitutes called comfort women in order to boost morale
and prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. However, after World War II, these comfort
women all but vanished from Japanese history, only to reemerge in a large movement in the 1990s
demanding the Japanese recognize the war crimes committed against these women. Since then, Japan
changed its official stance several times on whether or not the comfort women existed and whether or
not they were forced into prostitution against their will by the ... Show more content on

While Tokyo drew up a compensation plan for the comfort women in December 1994, this
compensation plan called for raising non government funds, which was rejected by a coalition of
South Korean civic groups because they felt that the government itself should pay for its crimes (Soh
Korean Comfort Women 1237). Japan also heavily downplayed the atrocities of the comfort woman
system. Japanese schoolbooks from the time generally omitted the existence of the comfort women,
and seemed to have the view that all Asians suffered as a collective in the war, which completely
ignores the fact that the Japanese subjugated other Asian ethnicities (Nishioka Behind the Comfort
Women Controversy 5). Many Japanese did not even believe the testimony of the comfort women, and
believed the Asahi Shimbun article was falsified to sell papers (Nishioka The Comfort Women Issue
19). This led to Japan working hard and succeeding in preventing any sort of resolution on the comfort
women issue at the general assembly meeting of the U.N. Human Rights Commission in Geneva in
April 1996 (Soh Korean Comfort Women

The Importance Of Italy In The Aeneid
Virgil makes it clear throughout the Aeneid that Italy is a crucial location for Aeneas to visit on his
Odyssean like adventure through omens, prophesy and discussions with the Gods. As the Aeneid was
written to honour Augustus, any reader of it would know that Italy is in fact the future site of Rome
and therefore Virgil must show its importance to Aeneas and his future descendants. Previous to Book
7, the land of Italy, or Latium, is referred to many times by many different characters of the Aeneid yet
it is in this Book that Aeneas finally sights and lands at it. Virgil s description of this land with a great
forest and the river Tiber in all its beauty with all manner of birds flying about it shows Latium to be a
beautiful place, full of life. By describing it in such a way Virgil begins to show its importance; it is
clear that this place can easily sustain life and appears peaceful, something ... Show more content on

This shows how important the land of Italy is to the Trojans as the founder of their previous home was
originally from there and also gives them a strong right to return. Later in the Aeneid when the Trojans
and their allies must fight the natives of Latium, the reader is even more supportive of Aeneas as it is
not seen as him invading but almost a return home. Virgil attaches importance to the future site of
Rome with his lengthy description of the great warriors who once lived and fought there. In Book 7,
after Juno has sent the fury Allecto to create madness in Amata and Turnus, the men of Hesperia begin
preparing for war. They are described as the son of heroes and gods, whom neither fire nor steel might
lay low . By describing a great number of men in such a way, Virgil shows that the land of Italy is full
of brave, fierce fighters and it therefore must be an important land to breed and house such

Seven Wonders of the Ancient World
Abstract
Various Wonders of the World lists have been compiled over the ages in order to catalogue the most
spectacular natural and man made constructions. The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World is the first
known list of remarkable man made creations of classical antiquity, and was based on guide books
popular among Hellenic sight seers and only includes works located around the Mediterranean rim.
Later lists include those for the Medieval World, the Modern World, the Natural World and others. The
list that will be discussed today is the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The historian Herodotus
(484 BC ca. 425 BC), and the scholar Callimachus of Cyrene (ca 305 240 BC) at the Museum of
Alexandria, made early lists of seven wonders but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The gardens were destroyed in an earthquake after the 1st century BCE.
The lush Hanging Gardens are extensively documented by Greek historians such as Strabo and
Diodorus Siculus. Through the ages, the location may have been confused with gardens that existed at
Nineveh, whose king at the time was Nimrod, since tablets from there clearly show gardens. Writings
on these tablets describe the possible use of something similar to an Archimedes screw as a process of
raising the water to the required height. The Greek Historian Diodorus (Antipar) said: The Garden was
100 feet long by 100 feet wide and built up in tiers so that it resembled a theater. Vaults had been
constructed under the ascending terraces which carried the entire weight of the planted garden; the
uppermost vault, which was seventy five feet high, was the highest part of the garden, which, at this
point, was on the same level as the city walls. The roofs of the vaults which supported the garden were
constructed of stone beams some sixteen feet long, and over these were laid first a layer of reeds set in
thick tar, then two courses of baked brick bonded by cement, and finally a covering of lead to prevent
the moisture in the soil penetrating the roof. On top of this roof enough topsoil was heaped to allow
the biggest trees to take root. The earth was leveled off and thickly

  • 2. I Am Applying to the Master s in Computer Science Program Aiming to carve a niche for myself in this broad area of Computer Science I apply to the Masters in Computer Science Program in Jacobs School of Engineering at the University of California, San Diego. This is the Program and the University for me which matches in all aspects of what I seek. The buzz about the enabling environment within the Computer Science and Engineering Department, which requires students to push their limits and helps them do so through providing avant garde course selection and cutting edge infrastructure is a main attraction. The work of Dr. Pavel Pevzner and Prof Henrick Jensen on Fragment Assembly in DNA sequencing and Global illumination using photon mapping is exactly what I would want to be part of. I understand that admission is difficult and then performing once admitted in a group of students that are competitive and brilliant will be even tougher, I apply because I know that I will be able to perform. Having lost my parents by the tender age of 12, I understood the true importance of focus, determination and effort from a very early stage in my life. Life has been what it has and I knew I had to build my own life. There was no ready platform and thus I did just that. Eligibility for Computer Engineering in the best engineering college in the state Nirma Institute of Technology came backed by effort and determination to make it. Focus that I must find my place within Computers was something that I was aware of from day one. Nevertheless ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Rationale For Undertaking The Research The rationale for undertaking the research: The topic of expansion has always resulted in competitiveness between various airports, but different approaches are taken towards those airports requesting for more runway expansion. Heathrow Airport is facing constant debates with nearby residents for a third runway appeal. The main concern with Heathrow s third runway relates to the environmental and social concerns residents will face if the expansion proposal is approved. Undertaking this particular research would provide a better understanding about the local residents opinions, whose daily activities may change and residential houses which may be affected; contributing to sustainability concerns. These opinions are important as residents deserve to express their interpretations about the runway expansion. Subsequently, the research will add significant value to the airport industry and add further theory to the current updates they have on Heathrow s third runway expansion. The context of your study: In the vast and developing aviation industry, expansion has become a key priority for many UK airport businesses. Airports in general are looking for chances to grow and provide excellent services, in order to fulfil passenger needs. Secretary of State for Transport (2013) mentions how the Airport Consultative Committees allow new opportunities such as airport infrastructure and growth strategies to be discussed. Although the consideration of airport expansion may be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Baseball As A National Pastime Mary McGrory, an American journalist, writes, Baseball is what we were, and football is what we have become ( Brainy Quotes ). Baseball is out and football is in. Only 27% of kids from ages 9 13 play baseball in the world today. There is no longer Take me out to the ball game, but let me watch the game on my TV. Baseball as a national pastime has experienced a decline in popularity because of the increase of popularity of football, length of the season and cost of a game, and length of plays and the game itself. Some fans believe that the increase of popularity of sports other than baseball, such as football, can be attributed to the average size of football stadiums and the average game attendance. Americans in general like for things to be bigger and better and the statistics for football stadium size and attendance show football facts far exceed baseball facts. For example, the Dallas Cowboys stadium is the largest NFL stadium seating a whopping 80,000 plus 20,000 standing. By comparison, the Los Angeles Dodgers, of the MLB, has the biggest stadium in baseball seating 56,000 ( ESPN ). These stats show the increase in popularity of football compared to the decrease of popularity of baseball. Research shows the Cowboys have demand for more seating because of the number of tickets sold per game. The average game attendance for an NFL game is greater compared to that of an MLB game. In fact, the Cowboys sell an average of 92,867 tickets per game. On the other hand, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay about America and the Normandy Invasion The year was 1944, and the United States had now been an active participant in the war against Nazi Germany for almost three and a half years. During this time, numerous battles had occurred which were fought with determination and intensity on both sides. Amongst the many invasions of World War II, there is one day which stands out more in the minds of many American soldiers than the others. That day was June 6, 1944, more commonly known as D Day, part of the invasion of Normandy, known as Operation Overlord. This operation was the largest amphibious assault in history. It was a day in which thousands of young Americans, who poured onto the beaches of France, matured faster than they would have ever imagined. They were not prepared for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Troops, armour, and equipment arrivals were timed to the minute. Naval barrage landed first on the beach at 6:30 a.m., immediately followed by thirty two light assault tanks known as DD tanks to further subdue fortified positions and provide cover for the oncoming troops (These were held on large freight boats known as LCTs). In the wake of this attack came the American 2nd Battalion, 8th Infantry in twenty Higgens boats, another type of transport designed to hold a thirty man team. They were followed by the 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry, bringing engineers and naval demolition teams in thirty two more Higgens boats.6 Wave after wave of troops and equipment, containing bulldozers, and the light and mobile Sherman Tank (see appendix B) continued to arrive. Before the assaults began, the planners, including Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower, hoped everything would stick to the precise schedule. This hope was not a reality, as some craft landed too late, others too early, and some off course as far as a kilometre south of the target. There were many factors which resulted in the wronging of the time table. Tides, wind, waves, and a thick cover of smoke were all partially responsible for the trouble, while the largest factor were the mines placed just off ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She was tutored in history, some languages, and literature as well. At the age of 16, she married Simon Bradstreet. On June 14, 1630, Anne finally felt American soil for the first time in her life. The Bradstreet family had moved to what is now called, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Anne had her first child in 1632, his name was Samuel, and he was born in Newe Towne, which that s what it was called back then. In 1697, Simon Bradstreet had died and was buried in Salem. That area of Merrimack Valley is now called, The Valley of the Poets. She use to have her own library of over 9000 books but over half of them were destroyed in the fire when her house burned down. Her house burning down actually inspired her to write the poem Upon the Burning of Our House July 10th, 1666. • 7. Technological Singularity In a guest column, Computers vs. Brains on the Opinionator of The New York Times, Sandra Aamodt and Sam Wang analyzed some of the arguments by inventor Raymond Kurzweil, one of the leading inventors of our time, in his most recent futurist manifesto: The Singularity Is Near: When Humans Transcend Biology (2005). Kurzweil estimates that machines will inevitably be able to surpass our thinking capabilities within a few decades. Kurzweil s speculative reasoning has been heavily debated and challenged. In Aamodt and Wang s article they point out that there are fundamental differences between our brains and computers that makes Kurzweil s predictions improbable. New revolutionary technologies are emerging fast to address this issue of increased electrical power generation and storage needs. An example is teams of MIT scientists that have created a synthetic, self assembling chloroplast that can be break and reassemble repeatedly, a self restoring solar cell. (Dillow, 2010). Another example is a company called Bloom Energy, which is producing tiny fuel cell boxes called Bloom Boxes. Two of these can power an average U.S. home. Each device is about the size of a standard brick. Although they need to be surrounded by a larger unit that takes in an energy source, they are still about the size of a refrigerator. This alternative is already being tested by companies such as Google and eBay (Siegler, 2010). One striking feature of brain tissue is its compactness. The memory capacity in this small volume is potentially immense. For computer capacity, to begin to approach that of a human brain, as we get closer to the physical limits of silicon and other materials used in current computing components like computer chips and memory; manufacturers would possibly need to experiment with other production techniques and materials. This type of decision making will undoubtedly be hard to match but there are already robots ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. How Soda Companies Reduce The Consumption Of Soda Drinks... After reviewing the problem it is clear that our organization cannot sit back idly and hope for the best. Soda companies have continued to struggle with the political interference in the market. In the past few years, nations all over the world have passed taxes on soda beverages. France passed a tax on soda and sales dropped by 3%. In Mexico, sales dropped by 2% after a similar tax was passed. And though the drops in sales are alarming, it is not event the biggest threat. Ultimately, the goal of the politicians is to drastically decrease the consumption of soda drinks. Their attempt to pass these taxes is a power play to make soda beverages viewed as similar to cigarette companies. It is imperative that we do everything in our power to stop these taxes from occurring. So far we have been successful in combating taxes in San Francisco and New York City. We have done this through a combination of business and political actions. Through our research we have been able to come up with a comprehensive list of strategies to counteract the soda tax. This list can be broken down into two main areas, business actions and political actions. Political: The political strategies would be utilized to strike down all efforts to pass a soda tax or any other legislation aimed at reducing the consumption of Coca Cola products. These strategies would include political marketing, and financial donations. Option 1: Political Marketing In this approach we would attempt to external with our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Termite-Hunting Ants Megaponera Analysis NPR published an article about the termite hunting ants Megaponera analis on April 12th, and I decided to compare how well their piece summarized the original scientific journal s findings. Through reading both articles I have come to the conclusion that NPR summary of the scientific journal is quite vague. The entirety of the NPR article had very little information about the scientific journals findings. In my opinion there were more deficits in this article rather than benefits that showed the true scope of the study. I understand that it is aimed at an audience much different that the scientific journal but I still believe it is far too simplistic. However, there were a few benefits that helped to capture the original research journals findings. One of these benefits include their inclusion of the information about what type of ant Megaponera analis is and how these ants march out in the search of food. Another benefit could be how the article describes how these ants were carrying their own kind as well as termites. Lastly, this article includes the backstory as who why the ... They also talk about the empathy that these ants may be having for those ants who have been hurt during the hunt. A theorem based on cognitive behavioral thinking CBT , the ABCDE model provides the basis for this discussion. The ABCDE model is essential as it provides immediate benefits in regards to building optimism by recognising and disputing negative thoughts. The students selected to undertake the program demonstrated greater optimism and less depressive symptoms contrasted to the students who were not exposed to the ABC method. This clearly supports the effectiveness for the ABC and the ABCDE model. Furthermore, Cunningham (2002) completed a similar program examining the effectiveness of a universal school based prevention program to teach optimistic thinking skills based on REBT theories. The movie Star Wars had just come out, and the description of this new laser defense system seemed more at home on the screen of a science fiction movie than in the arsenal of the American military. People today still call the plan absurd, but is it really? Well, the technology is still not quite to the level that Ronald Reagan had hoped in his speech, but it is not as far fetched as one would think. It is carried around on the back of a military vehicle, and can detect missiles from 50 miles out (that seems like a very long distance, but most missiles travel at around 1 mile per second), and shoot them down before they get near wherever the vehicle is stationed and trying to protect. Traditional Classroom Education Imagine waking up, eating breakfast, going to school, and completing your course work without leaving the comfort of your home or even your pajamas. The idea of attending school online and at personal convenience is an option that many high school and college students have difficulty passing up. In today s education system, students have the option to attend school in a traditional classroom setting or attend online in the comfort of their own homes. Both options have their benefits. However, in most cases, a traditional classroom education better prepares students K 12 for their futures by encouraging self discipline and communication between teachers and peers. Online learning, also known as distance learning, is growing rapidly throughout the United States. The 2012 survey of online learning determined that the number of students taking at least one online course has now surpassed 6.7 million (Online Learning Consortium, 2012). With the 2014 online learning statistics being released on February 5, it is expected that the number of students has grown significantly in the past two years and is only set to increase into 2015. A traditional classroom setting exposes students to what it will be like in their future workplace. In a classroom, students are expected to communicate face to face with their peers and teachers. Every time students attend school in a traditional classroom, they interact with their peers and learn what it is like to work amongst people that they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Confusion and Personal Identity in Rip Van Winkle Essay Rip Van Winkle tells the story of a man who, on a trek into the Kaatskill mountains, mysteriously sleeps away twenty years of his life during the Revolutionary War. When he returns home, he finds that things have dramatically changed; King George no longer has control over the colonies, and many of his friends have either died or left town. At this point, the story reaches its climax, where Van Winkle realizes that his life may be forever changed. To this point, Rip Van Winkle has had only to deal with the change in his surroundings. Having no doubts about his personal character, his fears remain singular only briefly, for when the crowd points to a man whom they call Rip Van Winkle, he begins to question his being as well. Rip Van Winkle notices these traits, and he is ...now completely confounded. His confusion has increased, but confounded also refers to shame the shame he might feel about his past. As the confusion increases, Rip begins to question his identity. When the man with the cocked hat asks who Rip was and what was his name, we are more concerned with Rip s identity as a human being than the answers to these simplistic questions, and so is Rip, for these questions become of greater importance when we consider how they concern Rip s inner self. He responds that ...I am not myself, and he enters a near panic as he describes his sad plight. His thoughts become shorter. The words used are shorter. • 15. Hybridity In Garcia Marquez s Of Love And Other Demons In the novel Of Love and Other Demons, the author uses a few kinds of magic to bring out a few themes, mainly the themes of love and hybridity. The author uses Sierva Maria s hair as a magic symbol for love. The novel is framed by a description of Sierva Maria s hair. Firstly in the introduction, Garcia Marquez sees a stream of living hair the intense color of copper (pg 6) pouring out of the Santa Clara crypt. In the final line of the novel, strands of hair gushed like bubbles as they grew back on her shaved head (pg 109). Both usage of hair as a magic symbol shows Garcia Marquez s use of magical realism. It is unrealistic for hair to continue living and growing in death, and also for it to grow so quickly and immediately after Sierva ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After being bitten by the dog, Sierva Maira is believed to have contracted rabies. While the Africans consider it quite mundane, the Spaniards read it as purely demonic because of their belief in the superstition of fearing animals and what relates to animalism inherent in human beings. Therefore, the issue of being possessed by the demons dramatizes a trepidation. Marquez paints a vivid picture of the hybridity in the novel that is highlighted by the demonic magic by portraying the difference in how the blacks and the whites faces this issue. In the novel, the Bishop sees rabies as a form that the demon may take to enter an innocent body. The superstitious Abbess to whom Sierva Maria is entrusted finds something supernatural and portentous in every ordinary event; the fact that she did not notice the girl s presence in her courtyard for several hours meant to her that the girl must have been rendered invisible by witchcraft. While the servants sat enchanted (pg 49) by Sierva Maria s singing, the Abbess raised the crucifix she wore around her neck (pg 49). The use of demonic magic brought on by the bite of the dog thus highlights the different treatment that is received by Sierva Maria, therefore bringing the reader s focus to the theme of hybridity in the ... The Pandemic Of Influenza And Vaccination Every year, millions of people start talking about the influenza virus and getting their vaccines as the flu season approaches, which starts around the October November period and reaches its peak between December and March. Therefore, public health officials around the world and in the U.S in particular are constantly challenged by properly preparing for the annual influenza dilemma, given that this viruses, and other respiratory viruses, are a serious health threat to the U.S population and the world as a whole. Furthermore, what makes the influenza virus even more challenging to control is that it can mutate rapidly and reassort to form new strains, having the ability to reside in multiple animal hosts. In fact, many scientists and researchers have been doing in depth intensive research so as to understand the mechanism behind this unique characteristic of the virus, try to find new ways to control it, and explore different areas of protection and vaccination. Before jumping into talking about the different features of Influenza, ranging from its pathogenesis and virulence, to the transmission and treatment of the disease, it is necessary to mention the slight but important difference between seasonal influenza, pandemic influenza and zoonotic influenza. What is seasonal Influenza? First of all, the name Influenza is derived from the Latin word for influence , and it is an infectious disease that is caused by the RNA viruses from the Orthomyxoviridae family: ... It seems difficult for one person, man or woman to commit to being with one spouse, therefore the divorce rates are increasing every day. The question remains whether this act should be legalized or not. Polygamy is having more than one spouse. There are different types of polygamy; these include polygamy where a man has multiple wives, polyandry in which a woman has multiple husbands, and group marriage where a family consists of multiple husbands and wives. Polygamy is definitely the most popular of the three listed. In the United States the practice of any form of polygamy is illegal and due to this law, many adherents of the lifestyle stays hidden. My perspective of polygamy is that having more than one spouse should remain illegal because marriage means committing to one person alone. Polygamy can also encourage the idea that women are considered objects that men can own. Eventually, this can lead to abuse and other issues that no one should ever have to deal with. This caused great tension between the two and lead to much fighting. In 1904, France and Spain agreed on a conclusion that Morocco would be split into zones of French and Spanish influence. Spain got to control a small portion of the southwest that became to be known as the Spanish Sahara; while the French controlled the rest of Morocco. The colonization of Morocco contributed many economical, political and social advances throughout history that are still seen in modern day. Economical effects have impacted Morocco widely. Trade is one of Morocco s strong points. Morocco traded items with the EU and, all together, was worth approximately 32 billion American dollars in 2013 (Trade). • 20. Causes And Consequences Of Malaria Today, the leading cause of death and most serious health concern in Nigeria is Malaria. All but 10% of malaria cases in the tropical African region occur in Nigeria. Malaria accounts for 30% of deaths in children below the age of five, a quarter of deaths in infants, and just above ten percent of deaths in mothers (1, 7). Common symptoms of malaria in adults are headaches, weakness, fever, aches, high temperatures and loss of appetite. In children excess sleeping, nausea, and vomiting are additional symptoms (7). The burden of malaria in Nigerian is tremendous due to its detrimental impact on the physical and emotional health of the people and on the economic growth of the country. Malaria is caused by the bite of an anopheles gambiae mosquito with a plasmodium parasite inside. There are four different protozoa, all part of the plasmodium genus, that can cause malaria: Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium ovale, Plasmodium malaria, and Plasmodium falciparum. In Nigeria 98% of cases of malaria are due to the P. falciparum species, which causes the most severe form of malaria resulting in death (3). Nigeria is affected by malaria severely due to its climate, 70 90 degrees Fahrenheit and at least 60 percent humidity. As the temperature increases the parasite within the mosquito grows increasingly faster. Another factor that is responsible for the severity of malaria in Nigeria is the rainfall which leads to pools of standing water which in turn become breeding areas for mosquitoes ... The company touts itself as a market leader in business aviation; land and expeditionary combat systems, armaments and munitions, shipbuilding and marine systems, and information and technology (p 3). The company s objective in previous years was to continue to address the growth of each division, both separately and as a whole. Based on the current backlog of approximately $57.4 billion at the end of 2011, one could surmise that the growth (or at least sustainability) of the company is in fine mettle. Additionally, the new G650 Gulfstream aircraft recorded the highest number of orders for new aircraft since the introduction ¦in 2008 . History has continually utilized recycling for gain. Most products of recycling before the 90 s consisted of waste material, glass, and plastics. After that time, electronics were brought into the mix. Recently, recycling itself has become more popularized in the last 30 years. Through realism writing movement, Xun criticizes the four thousand years old feudal Chinese system which has perpetuated human cannibalism. Through an insane man, the author exposes the real tribulations that everyday people go through and have come to perceive it as part and parcel of their lives. Also, Xun uses characterization to bring out the issues that would be considered uncomfortable in such governance. Therefore, the madman character, who has the social freedom to say anything and is more likely to be ignored, enables Xun to agonize the feudal system injustices.
