Social Deviance and Social Norms Essay
Social deviance is a violation of social norms. So what qualifies as a social deviant? According to
sociologist, Howard S. Becker the best definition of social deviance is, It is not the act itself, but
the reactions to the act, that do something deviant. In cultures around the world, there are many
practices Americans find deviant, but in other cultures, it s the norm. In many countries around the
world, girls are married as young as 11 years old. To Americans, that is considered child abuse and
rape, but that is only because of our social norms. To the men and parents in different countries, it
is perfectly normal because their social norms. In America, social deviance comes in many different
forms. We have our sexual deviants,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Avner considered himself bi sexual. He associated with the furry culture, and attended several
furry conventions. Imagine how he would have been looked at thirty years ago. Appearance
modification is the lighter side of social deviance. Other forms of deviance include serial
murder, incest, rape and pedophilia. One of the most famous of violent social deviance would
have to be Theodore Bundy. Theodore Bundy was a serial murderer and rapist. He killed dozens
of women across four states. He was executed, by way of electrocution, in Florida in 1989. He
was an extreme case of social deviance. Rape is an awful, but real type of social deviance.
Whether it is from a stranger, friend, relative or even a husband; According to RAINN (Rape,

another shocking form of sexual, social deviance. In the Netherlands and Belgium, you can have

Main Goals of The Progressive Movement Essay
In the late nineteenth century to early twentieth century the Progressive Era was moving to reshape
America. Progressivism was a political movement that encouraged the exposure of corruption in
America in order to reshape it for the better. This time period became known for the social and
political changes that took place as a result of the progressives. Progressivism ruled the country,
changing the way Americans lived and the way politics affected them. One of the main goals of the
progressive movement was to use democracy to regulate the government by exposing the corruption
of government officials. Another area in which the progressives moved for change was business. In

He was most known for his book The Jungle, which became a worldwide bestseller and
dramatically changed food regulation during the Progressive Era. Many people saw the results of
this book as good, but they did not see the corruption it caused. Upton Sinclair s The Jungle changed
food regulation in America forever, but the effects that came about because of The Jungle were
more detrimental than beneficial.
Upton Beall Sinclair grew up in a poor family, always moving around from city to city with his
father s job as a salesman. His mother, Priscilla Sinclair, had rich relatives on her side of the
family whom Upton would visit with some regularity. As he grew up this allowed him to see
how the rich and the poor lived, giving him an insight that shaped his career as a writer and
journalist. He did not have a good relationship with either his mother or father, causing him to
become independent at a young age. When he was just fourteen his family moved to New York
city and he started writing to pay for his tuition at the City College of New York. He went on to
graduate from Columbia University, paying his way with stories he wrote. His early career
consisted of small novels and journal articles that never became well known. Upton Sinclair often
wrote for the socialist journal Appeal to Reason, showing his socialist ideals. Growing up in
poverty and visiting wealth caused him to have these socialist views. The crowning point of his
career came

An Analysis Of Pope Innocent IV
This source is an excerpt from a letter from Pope Innocent IV to King henry III of England on the
23rd January 1245, shortly after the sacking of Jerusalem by Khwarezmian forces in the same year.
When a Pope traditionally launches a crusade it is accompanied with excitatoria, formal letters
appealing to nobility and kings for contribution to the forthcoming campaign. Although this letter
was intended for the English king, Peter Jackson implies that the missing letter to King Louis IX
would have almost have been identical concerning its content, language and the overarching appeal
for the crusade to respond to the sacking of Jerusalem at the hands of the Khwarezmians.
Discussion on finances and indulgences for the crusade is mentioned in the... Show more content on

He immediately found himself in a difficult position as pope, with numerous issues arising, such
as the hostility escalating between the Holy Roman Emperor and the papacy, the increase of
Islamic incursions into the Holy Land and of course the Mongol invasion of Europe. There was
indeed prior warning of the defensive vulnerability of the Kingdom of Jerusalem, as Pope
Innocent IV received a letter complaining that there were only one hundred pilgrim knights
defending the city, and more reinforcements from Western Europe was needed for protection.
Although this may have been note by the newly appointed Pope, the struggle with the Holy
Roman Emperor through the continuation of Pope Gregory IX s policy against Frederick II
may have overshadowed this plea from the Holy Land. In fact, Pope Innocent IV s position was
so untenable in Rome due to the Emperor s actions to increase dissent, that he fled to Lyon and
immediately set about organising the Council of Lyon for 1245. His letter to Henry III was part
of an effort from his base in Lyon to call for a crusade in reaction to the sacking of Jerusalem by
the Khwarezmians, but he struggled to garner much support for the crusade due to the internal
struggles within Europe, with only King Louis IX fully committed to the campaign. The
relationship between Pope Innocent IV and King Henry III is one of note, as since the ties
between Rome and the English King were established early through the papal support given to
Henry at the end of the Baron s war. The papacy desperately needed political allies due to the
increasing threat posed by the military might of the Holy Roman Emperor and Henry II could be
said to be one of them. Although the papacy could find respite through their relationship between
the King of France and King of England respectively, the relationship between the two kingdoms
was strenuous. A crusade

Gerald Ford Biography
Following his defeat in the 1976 presidential election, Gerald Ford retired to Rancho Mirage,
California. Thereafter, Ford appeared frequently in public as a speaker, lecturing for private
audiences and on university campuses. In his post presidential years, Ford wrote a number of
books, including an account of his presidency, A Time to Heal (1979), and Humor and the
Presidency (1987). Always very athletic, Ford continued to enjoy the game of golf.
However, Ford s exit from Washington did not immediately end his political ambitions. He
surprised most observers when he entered into discussions with Ronald Reagan in 1980 about
running on the Republican ticket with the former governor of California. However, Ford took
the offer to the media (specifically to CBS anchor Walter Cronkite in a convention interview);
feeling betrayed, an angry Reagan withdrew the offer, which ultimately went to George H.W.
Bush. During the 1980s and 1990s, Ford emerged as an elder statesman in the Republican Party.
Likewise, Ford wrote extensively on domestic and foreign policy issues of the day. He also
served on a number of corporate boards and commissions, including a stint as co chair of The
National Commission on Federal Election Reform in 2001. ... Show more content on

Effects Of Isolation In Bartleby
Effects of Isolation on an Individual In Melville s Bartleby Many of traumatizing and devastating
events that have taken place this year is extremely alarming. The events that were taken place in
the recent school shootings in Florida and Maryland has sharpened awareness for many people. In
Herman Melville s Bartleby, readers can easily draw similarities between Bartleby and the Gunman
in these devastating recent events. Bartleby is an alienated and homeless individual whom is
secluded similar to the gunman in these recent school shootings. The psychological and socio
political ramifications of isolation on an individual affects one s mind, alters his or her ability to
exercise cognitive control, and sometimes even lead to violence. Prolonged isolation is physically
bad on individuals, particularly mentally. Isolation interferes with everyday functioning, such as
sleep patterns, attention and logical and verbal reasoning (Bond). In this novella, Bartleby seems to
experience an interference with logical reasoning because he never seems to understand that he
needs to leave the office. The most profound effects of isolation are on the mind. One of the
strangest effects is the time shifting which is spending long periods doing something in a closed
environment. Bond reported... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Character Analysis Of Clarissa Dalloway
A.
Character s action The protagonist, Mrs. Clarissa Dalloway, grows in her actions throughout the
story. The flashbacks to the present day show her growth more than things happening during the
day of the party. Clarissa grows as an ambitious woman by denying Peter Walsh s marriage
proposal. He is the man of her dreams, at first. As she realizes that that s not what s best for her she
denies him and moves on. Peter... had no heart, no brain, nothing but the manners and breeding of
an English gentleman. (pg. 7) She has too many aspirations to settle for a man not up to her
standards.
Character s appearance
Clarissa Dalloway is not beautiful. Not that she was striking; not beautiful at all; there was
nothing picturesque about her... (pg. 76) This is why her insecurities are so prominent. She
questions everything she does. However, she dresses like a respectable lady. Therefore despite
her bland face, her clothes and gloves are well done. She uses these to disguise how she really
feels, which is inadequate. Clarissa always feels as though she needs her gloves, while her
daughter Elizabeth who is beautiful, never wears them. Elizabeth doesn t need them. Clarissa
does. Clarissa is obsessed with how people feel about her, which goes to show how insecure she is.
Character s thoughts
Her thoughts are very sexually confused. This is one trait that could go deeper than talked about on
the surface. She has an experience where another woman kisses her and she has a very big crush

Food Safety Modernization Act Of 2010 ( Fsma )
Food Safety Modernization Act
The new FDA Food Safety Modernization Act of 2010 (FSMA) was signed into law by President
Obama on January 4, 2011. It aims to ensure the U.S. food supply is safe by shifting the focus of
federal regulators from responding to contamination to preventing it rather than relying primarily
on reacting to problems after they occur. Everyone play a role in ensuring safe food from field to
fork. The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) is the major inspection and reorganize of
United State food safety practice since 1938. This is a big change to US food system, since the
new regulations are not just for farms, but facilities that process food for people to eat. These new
regulations are important for the food and Drug Administration to get these regulations right, thus
that they improve food safety.
The major elements of FDA Food Safety Modernization Act can be divided into five keys area: 1)
Preventive Control, 2) Inspection and compliance, 3) Imported food safety, 4) Response, 5)
Enhanced partnerships.
1) Preventive Control , this is the first time the FDA have a legislative mandate to require
comprehensive, science based preventive controls across the food supply. This mandate includes:
mandatory preventive controls for food facilities, mandatory produce safety standards, and authority
to prevent intentional contamination. Mandatory preventive controls for food facilities means food
facilities are required to implement a written preventive

Theme of Isolation in The Awakening Essays
Theme of Isolation in The Awakening
One theme apparent in Kate Chopin s novel, The Awakening, is the consequence of solitude when
independence is chosen over conformity. The novel s protagonist, Edna Pontellier, is faced with
this consequence after she embarks on a journey of self discovery. As Ednas ability to express
herself grows, the number of people who can understand her newfound language shrinks (Ward 3).
Edna s awakening from a conforming, Victorian wife and mother, into an emotional and sexual
woman takes place through the use of self expression in three forms: emotional language, art, and
physical passion.
The first form of self expression Edna learns is the emotional language spoken by the Creole ...

Chopin notes, Perhaps it was the first time she was ready, perhaps the first time her being was
tempered to take an impress of the abiding truth (699). Mlle. Reisz feels the music is a mode of
communication between Edna and herself. This prompts her to tell Edna during a party, You are
the only one worth playing for (Chopin 700). The music calls to something within Edna, which
further wakes her from the slumber of domesticity. As Edna realizes the expressive nature of
music, she wants to apply this expression to her painting. She seeks the encouragement of her first
teacher of expression, Madame Ratignolle, hoping her kind words will help her put her heart into
her venture (Chopin 723). When Edna surrendered to the service of art her husband noted, she was
not herself. That is, he could not see the she was becoming herself (Chopin 724). Self expression
through art progresses Edna in her new sense of self, but one more form must be learned to
complete her transformation.
Lastly, Edna explores self expression in her own physical passion. Her romantic relationships with
Alcee and, most importantly, Robert, give her the means to express love and passion she had
preciously repressed. When Edna first explores these sexual feelings she, as Davis states, succumbs
to the seductions of a rouГ©, Alcee Arobin, without

Hippocampus Water Maze
The hippocampus has been known to be the storage center for learning and memory in the brain
(Wirsching et al., 1984). The mapping theory developed by O Keefe and Nadel (1978) and O
Keefe and Conway (1980) proposed that there is a relationship between the hippocampus and
storing spatial information, which allows animals to map out the surrounding area and locate itself
in proportion to its surroundings.
The importance of stimulus load from the environment has been tested with rats in visually altered
mazes to examine the role of muscarinic receptors, or acetylcholine receptors, on using surrounding
visual cues. The results showed that the muscarinic receptors are important for processing visual
discrimination cues to provide the rat with consistent information about the environment; however,
scopolamine injected rats had no improvement with one or more visual cues (Tsui and Drigenberg,
2012). More specifically, the M1 muscarinic receptor, which is located in the forebrain structures
including the hippocampus and cortex, has also been proven to affect place learning and place
discrimination learning in a water maze (Hagan, Jansen, and Broekkamp, ... Show more content on

impaired by cholinergic blockades (Sutherland, Whishaw, and Regher, 1982). On the other hand,
rats will develop a non mapping strategy to locate the platform, which is similar to moving the
hidden platform in a water maze (Buresova, Bolhuis, and Bures,

The 28,000 hectares of original farmland that made up the retreat and backed onto the South Island
s Mount Cook National Park were converted into a big game reserve. All merino sheep on the
land were sold, and deer, elk, chamois, and wapiti were brought in and released. This was a
carefully considered plan. Olde Olthof, the former conservationist, believed that financially and
environmentally this was the correct decision. Not only do tourists, each staying for one week and
taking part in safari shooting, inject as much cash into the business as the station s annual wool clip
used to fetch, but the game does less harm to the environment than sheep. Cattle, however, once
part of the original station, were left to graze on lower reverflat areas.
For those high flying customers seeking less bloodthirsty leisure activities, Lilybank developed
other product line extensions. Horse trekking, golfing on a nearby rural course (with no need for
hordes of security forces), world class photographic opportunities, helicopter trips around nearby
Lake Tekapo, nature walks, and other such activities formed part of the exclusive package.

Others have defined internet addiction in other words. Oktan (2011) has used certain criteria to
describe internet addiction. He says that it is failure to control, decrease or stop internet use, and
staying logged on longer than expected (Oktan, 2011). Both Yen, Yen, Wu, Huang Ko (2011) and
Chak Leung (2004) give characteristics for internet addiction. Yen, et al, (2011) list the
characteristics as: impaired decision making, impairment of control, tolerance, preoccupation,
withdrawal, uses more than one intends, excessive time and effort devoted to the internet. Chak
Leung (2004) list their characteristics of internet addiction as the following: concealment, risk to
education, risk of loss of job, risk of loss of relationship, and lying to friends, family, the therapist,
and others. Weinstein Lejoyeux (2010) believes there are 4 components to internet addiction and in
each component there are different parts to the component. The four components are excessive use,
tolerance, adverse consequences, and withdrawal. The parts to excessive use entail loss of time
and neglect of duties. Tolerance is when more and more of time and effort are needed for

Economic Significance Of Renewable Energy Policy
ECONOMIC SIGNIFICANCE OF RENEWABLE ENERGY POLICY IN INDIA: A CASE
STUDY OF GUJARAT S SOLAR POLICY
I.Introduction
The transition to a greener energy regime in India is driven by both external factors, like energy
prices, market developments, political culture and the emphasis on climate change, as well as by
internal factors like the goal to achieve long term energy security and the need for enhancing access
to energy. The early emphasis on renewable energyin India was primarily on the wake of energy
security concerns mooted during the global oil crisis around 1970s. Commission of Additional
Sources of Energy (CASE) in 1981 was set up by Government of India (GoI) as one of the early
response to such a crisis. CASE was transformed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is argued that policy reforms initiated during the past two decades have transformed India s
energy sector from a predominantly government owned system to a system largely driven by
market elements. This is also evident in the case of renewable energy where the Ministry of New
and Renewable Energy (MNRE) identifies the development of renewable energy in India across
various phases: 1970s as research phase, 1980s as demonstration phase and 1990s onwards as
commercialization phase with greater participation of private sector entities.
The renewable sources of power in India still constitute a small portion of the entire power
production of the country, with the total installed capacity of 32,000 MW (which is about 12%
of the total installed capacity). Out of the total installed capacity, solar energy constitutes about
10 % (3200 MW). The solar potential of the country is huge. It is estimated that about 12.5 % of
India s landmass, which is about 413,000 square kilometers, can be exploited to harness solar
energy. The country on an average enjoys 300 sunny days with an average hourly solar radiation
of about 200 MW/square kilometer. The major recent initiative in the solar space is the Jawaharlal

A major issue when treating alcoholism is the likelihood of relapse. A lack of social support may

today. MLK is described as a man who was generally quiet and listened attentively as others
talked. Ling (2002) states, King had a remarkable ability to get people who would otherwise be
constantly feuding to work together . The key to a successful leader is bringing people together.
King was able to bring people together and work together for an achievable goal. He could quiet
crowds and calm them down to be more peaceful. He spoke on nonviolence as the better
resolution. According to Ling (2002), For King, leadership meant standing up for what he
believed in and being a drum major for justice . A leader is also one who can relate to people.
King was able to relate to the people who spoke to therefore African Americans were more likely
to listen and follow what King had to say. King was a leader because he challenged the status quo.
He had the courage to stand up for what he believed, the rights of all people to fair and equal
treatment.
Compare leadership styles Perhaps King s leadership style is a bit ambitious for one to achieve.
The next comparable person who ranks with King would be Barack Obama.

Rube Goldberg Research Paper
Our challenge was to create a Rube Goldberg Machine that could ring a service bell. Additionally,
we needed to document and turn in a team and individual folder. Once we completed the evaluation
of Rube Goldberg s life, cartoons, and machines, my team worked through the challenges of trying
to pull together as a team and create a successful project.
Rube Goldberg was an inventor, engineer, sculptor, author, and cartoonist. Born on July fourth,
1883 in San Francisco, California, Rube grew up in an upper middle class family of Jewish
heritage, and he had shown a love for the arts ever since a young age. At the age of four, Goldberg
spent a lot of time creating things and tracing drawings. Sadly, his mother died when he was a

He even won the Pulitzer Prize for his work as an editorial cartoonist. Rube Goldberg s cartoons
depicted different types of complicated inventions. His success as a cartoonist started when he
became the San Francisco Bulletin s sports cartoonist. This point in time was when publishers
began to recognize his work. Rube also became the co founder of the National Cartoonists
Society. It was an organization that showed the importance of cartoons and cartoonists, which
made Goldberg want to be apart of it. (rube goldberg.com, n.d.). Ever since 1988, students have
participated in the Rube Goldberg MachineRube Goldberg machine contest that brings out the
spirit of Goldberg and his unique cartoons (Raga, 2016). Rube Goldberg noted that the machines
were symbols of, man s capacity for exiting maximum effort to accomplish minimal results (O
Connor, 2015, A Simple Task, para. 11). Over time, his cartoon inventions turned into real
working machines, and millions of people became inspired. An excellent example of what
Goldberg s designs are and how they can operate is his famous self operating napkin cartoon. It
was a machine that used a chain reaction to accomplish a simple task, and this was Rube Goldberg
s vision for all the simple machines (National Center for Families Learning,

The Impact Of Poplar Plantation On The World s Largest...
Poplar is a versatile tree species that is highly amenable to vegetative propagation (Jiaxing et al.
2014), it has a rapid growth rate, which is a good model system for the transformation of woody
plant species (Ali Movahedi et al.2014). These trees are highly beneficial to our environment;
their oxygen plays a vital role in the protection of soil erosion in eastern China. They are used as
habitat for wildlife, soil carbon sequestration, and phytoremediation. They are able to grow in
lowland and highland forestation (Bernd et al., 2004), which makes them very important to the
pulp, paper, and cosmetic industries (Ferreira et al., 2009). The P. deltoides are one of the fastest
growing trees in North America (Haverbeke et al., 2000). They are the largest North American
hardwood tree (Steve Nix, et al., 2001). Poplar plantation plays an important role in eastern China
agriculture industries. In 2002, the Republic of China launched the world s largest tree planting
project, within the same year their State Forestry Administration approved genetically modified
poplars for commercial planting.China has over one million genetically modified crops that have
been planted (Chris Lang, 2004). Furthermore, they have over 7.0 million hm2 poplars planted,
which makes them one of the countries with the largest poplar plantation. As many countries, The

Fashion In Fashion
Fashion Through The Ages
History, art, and music has all played a part in why the fashion industry is always evolving. From
a deerskin tunic to a wire cage skirt to a mesh t shirt, fashion is changing as we speak. Wars have
affected fashion as to what armor to wear and what kind of material should be used. Art styles
from expressionism to surrealism has all affected what colors and what shape of clothing we are
wearing. Music and rhythm to beat is the reason why we have loose fitting clothes or a tight leotard.
Fashion began to evolve during the first world war. Before that women wore dresses and men
wore suits. A huge change that happened during this era was pants. It was more practical for
women who were working in factories and making weaponry to be wearing pants instead of
dresses. New hairstyles were introduced like the bob. Women were cutting their hair shorter and
shorter.
Coco Chanel also changed fashion after the war in France. She opened her second boutique in
the South of France. She changed the way soft jersey fabric was being used and began to make
more loose fitting clothing. Makeup was also evolving after the war. In 1915, Helen Rubinstein
and Elizabeth Arden opened up a beauty salon in New York. They began selling creams and
solutions to reduce wrinkles and gloom marks caused by the war.
In World War II there was food rations and also clothing rations. There was a shortage in
pantyhoes during the second war, so women had to paint their legs or draw a

Adults discourage as much as possible to stay away from downloading music. Downloading
music slows down your computer and after a while your computer will have a bunch of

prevent this is spending time with you children online while they are doing their homework.
Teach them how to use different sources and this way you can also watch what sites are being

Child Abusers And Children And Adults All Over The World
Child abusers coexist with children and adults all over the world, but this does not necessarily
have to be public knowledge. People in support of child abusers having public records often feel
their children are safer with this knowledge, allowing them to determine where to live and raise
their children. Others argue these public records are a violation of rights dictated within the
Constitution and abusers should be allowed to maintain their privacy regardless of their crime.
Both sides advocate for the rights of either the abuser or the child to ensure protection. According to
the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, sexual abuseinvolving children is defined as,
any completed or attempted (noncompleted) sexual act, sexual contact with, or exploitation (i.e.
noncontact sexual interaction) of a child with a caregiver (Murray, Nguyen, and Cohen, 322).
Although varying opinions exist about the functioning definition of child sexual abuse, the debate
over the controversy of child abuser s identities is typically discussed based on this definition. This
ongoing debate revolves around the question as to whether or not the public should know the
identities of those convicted of child sexual abuse and how much information should be made
public based on the individual offender s case. Currently, a child sexual abuser s personal
information such as, the offender s name, address, offense, place of employment or schooling, and

Importance Of Cognitively Based Attitudes
Attitudes are evaluations of people, objects, and ideas. (Akert, 2013) Cognitively based attitudes
are based on thoughts and beliefs one has about an object, and this attitude provides pros and
cons of an object, so we can decide if we want to be associated with it or not. Affectively based
attitudes are based more on people s feelings and values than on their beliefs about the nature of an
attitude object. (Akert, 2013) The elaboration likelihood modelis the umbrella for this topic, because
it explains the two ways in which persuasioncan change someone attitude. The two ways are
persuasion through the central route and the persuasion through the peripheral route. The
elaboration likelihood model refers to processing the message which is related to the cognitively
based attitudes. Persuasive communication is most successful in changing attitudes when going
through the central route because the audience is motivated, whereas with the peripheral route the
audience is not motivated. Now I am going to discuss the routes of persuasion through
advertisements in detail.
The case in which people elaborate on a persuasive communication, listening carefully to and
thinking about the arguments, which occurs when people have both ability, and the motivation to
listen carefully to communication is defined as the central route to persuasion. (Akert, 2013) For
my example, I found an advertisement about Rihanna s new long wearing, shine proof, makeup

Ancient World Civilizations Ancient and Modern Architecture Assignment: The Pantheon Porch in
Rome and the Wentworth Hall Entrance
Wentworth Institute of Technology was founded by Arioch Wentworth in 1904 by selling his estate
after he died on March 12, 1903. The main purpose of Arioch creating this building was to furnish
education in the mechanical arts for many young men and train them in various skills to prepare for
success in the future. On the other hand, the Pantheon in Rome was introduced originally as a
temple dedicated to all the deities of pagan Rome. It was eventually sanctified and made into a
Christian church in the later century. When taking a closer look at the Wentworth Hall and

Throughout this comparison, I wish to discover the characteristics shared by both the Wentworth
Hall and Pantheon and the special meanings behind these two old buildings.
The history of the Pantheon project was originally from the emperor Augustus and built by the
architect Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa. During the reign of the Roman emperor Titus, in
approximately 80 A.D, the Pantheon temple was burned down in a fire. Eventually, the third
Roman emperor Domitian of the Flavian dynasty rebuilt a new temple there, but this one was also
destroyed in a fire in 110 A.D. Around 120 A.D Roman period, King Hadrian rebuilt the third
Pantheon in a more modern style and this is the temple we have today. Apollodorus of Damascus,
who was an architect designer during that period of time, assisted King Hadrian in rebuilding the
best preserved Roman monument, the new Pantheon. The reconstruction of this project started
soon after Hadrian became emperor and it was probably completed by 125 A.D. To honor Agrippa,
Hadrian left a message over the door written in early Greek. Hadrian mentioned that he was the
originally creator who had built the temple.
The Pantheon building has had just a tremendously complex architectural history. When they built
the Pantheon around 120 A.D, the skilled architects applied advanced engineering technology in

Cancer Cell Essay
Breaking away: cancer cell dissemination and survival in the periphery
Once the primary tumor gains the capacity to evade host immune system and cancer cells enter the
circulation, metastatic dissemination takes place. Before metastatic dissemination, the
prematastatic niches are primed. Cell types which earlier were recruited to destroy cancer now
facilitate in tumor progression(Fig. 2). TME supports cancer cells in leaving the primary tumor site
seeding in secondary organs.
In the primary tumor one of the initial steps was EMT, during which tumor cells lose epithelial
markers and gain mesenchymal traits that confer stem like properties and a migratory phenotype.

Hypoxia takes place in the tumor core due to deficiency of oxygen. Hypoxia mediates immune cell
recruitment (eg.; Lymphocytes in colorectal cancer) and concentrates them at the tumor periphery
to support cancer invasion at the leading edge. Hypoxia in the tumor core leads to aggressive
selection pressure for resilient stem like tumor cells due to which these cells migrate to the
periphery of the tumor.
2.3INTRAVASATION
According to Paget s hypothesis of seed and soil , cancer cells (seed) gradually acquire mutations in
oncogenes or tumour suppressor genes that confer the ability to intravasate, survive in the
haematogenous or lymphatic circulation, and prosper in a distant site (soil). This soil would have
characteristics that allow the metastatic cell to adhere and proliferate. In humans, certain tumours
metastasize to specific organ sites. For example, breast cancers metastasize to lung, liver, bone and
brain; melanoma to liver, brain and skin. By contrast, some tumors like glioma do not metastasize,
instead migrate along white matter tracks, others such as ovarian tumours are restricted to the
peritoneal cavity. Some others such as head and neck cancers only spread to regional lymph nodes.
The molecular bases of these differences are poorly if at all understood, but probably have a
microenvironmental component. Recent studies mention about the power of transcriptome
profiling to identify cohorts of genes of which

The Theme Of Reputation In Beowulf
Witten by an anonymous author, the poem Beowulf consists of several major themes. One of those
themes is reputation. Reputation is the acknowledgment by other people of some characteristic.
Although having a good reputation is very important to many people nowadays. It is also important
to people who lived many centuries ago. In the poem Beowulf, having a righteous reputation is
very important and greatly valued by many characters, especially to Danish people, Beowulf,
Grendel, and Grendel s mother. To begin with, the reader first notices the importance of reputation
in the poem when Beowulf and his twelve warriors land on the Danish shores. As they are getting
down from the ship, a Danish watcher sees them and goes up to them to see who they are. The
lieutenant asks Beowulf who he is, and why he is coming to his coast. Beowulf replies by saying,
We... follow Higlac, my father was a famous soldier...men all over the earth...remember him. (156
163) Then, the lieutenant figures out that Beowulf has a good reputation. Therefore, he allows
Beowulf and his men to enter the Danish shores, and he leads them to Hrothgar. This incident
shows the reader that reputation is very important, and if a character has a bad reputation, he would
not be welcomed into other kingdoms. Moreover, Beowulf meets Hrothgar, they start talking.
Beowulf starts listing his achievements and the things he had done. I drove five great giants into
chains / I swam... hunting monsters out of the ocean. (232 236)

bright, beautiful friend. An idea suddenly started to form in Olympias s head as she looked from
the bright nymph to the dark god. She would place Eurydice in the sky beside her to warm the
people and give them light, and she would place Aristarchus in his prison in the sky to provide
sleep and darkness to the people. They would be called the sun and the moon, and man would

The Victorian Era
Art Historian, Daniel Siedell said, In such a society as the Victorians , when public society is so
stifling, steam is naturally going to be driven underground. The reform of the Victorian era, a time
in England of refinement and high decorum surrounding the years of Queen Victoria s reign, did
not produce revolution but the opposite: stagnation. And so at this time in England there were
ingredients present to create a real revolution and bring a dismantling of the Victorian spirit, but
they were underground and silent. Oscar Wilde aimed to bring that underground movement above
ground through flagrancy. Wilde s innovative faith as well as shocking literature were two gears
of the same vehicle. They were gears dependent upon each other to bring anti Victorian
aestheticism to the surface of English society and culture. Oscar Wilde s literary revolt against
propriety paralleled his unconventional view of religion both were a rejection of law and an
embrace of beauty.
In as much as Wilde influenced The Victorian eraand what came thereafter, the Victorians society
in England was Wilde s environment and the cause of who he was. The era, during and around
when Queen Victoria was on the throne in England, was characterized by what they thought was,
revolution. It was grounded on delicacy, refinement, good words, and all other forms of high
decorum that reflected the prosperous bourgeoisie according to Walter Murdoch, a prominent
Australian academic and essayist (18). In a

Addison Greyer s Fatal Attraction
In this dark and compulsive series somewhere along the lines of Fatal Attraction meets Unfaithful
comes a thrilling, addictively suspenseful, and haunting story that grabs the reader, and holds them
captive until the very end. For fans of psychological thrillers, suspense, and the forbidden, The
Bedrock Series hands us a deceptively beautiful tale. Addison Greyer has always been known for
doing the right thing. Hoping to keep it that way, she fought like hell to avoid falling for the
mysterious, highly successful, albeit broken man the world knows as William Hartman. But there s
just something about that which is forbidden... Odds against them or not, there s something
undeniable in the way he makes her feel. As the pressure mounts,

Bohemian Beat Case Study
Westside Inner City
Newtown/Enmore
Marching to its Own Bohemian Beat
On the west side of the city, Sydney takes on a distinct vibe, one that embraces individuality,
creativity and a laid back lifestyle. The neighbourhoods of Newton and Enmore exemplify this spirit
with their eclectic collection of antique shops, thrift stores, throwback record shops and tattoo
parlors. Candle makers, ice creameries, vegan restaurants, art galleries and petite theatres are
equally at home in this bohemian area. The pulsing underground pub scene cultivates a thriving
Indie music industry while avant garde boutiques and public buildings are colourfully decorated
with evocative political murals. Sydneysiders descend on weekends to hunt for unique furniture and
fashion, often unearthing valuable antiques for bargain prices. Traditional pubs, such as the
beloved Bank Hotel on King St., are just as cherished as the intimate 1,600 seat Enmore Theatre and
the hundreds of cosy cafes, bistros and restaurants spread throughout these two inner city suburbs.

Persuasive Essay On Charter Schools
President Trump s choice for Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, was confirmed on February
7th, 2017, and her support for charter schools has become a priority in the administration. CNN
reports that DeVos has been a strong advocate in the past for school choice, lobbying for charter
schools in her home state of Michigan years prior to her confirmation. President Trump stated his
education plan would put forth billions of dollars into school choice programs across the United
States. Charter schools are publicly funded and independently run, in some cases operated by for
profit and often do not hire unionized teachers a distinction that has put them at odds with teacher
unions (Grinberg 2017). DeVos labels charter schools as an extension of public education, while
critics of school choice point to both the unchecked power of charter school administrators, and the
poor test scores of the students in Michigan charter schools the schools DeVos lobbied for in the
past. School choice supporters anticipate the new administration to allocate both state and federal
money for vouchers that can be used for a variety of schools including completely private,
religious, and home schooling. However controversial, charter schools are experiencing a growth in
popularity in locations such as Washington D.C., Arizona, Colorado, and Florida. The shift from
public schools to charter schools could dramatically increase given the influx of potentially $20
billion into school choice

Good Vs. Evil In To Kill A Mockingbird
Sabrina Estrada Mr. Shiflette Freshmen English 4 8 December 2016 To Kill A Mockingbird
Theme (Good VS. Evil) To Kill a Mockingbird is a book that shows the gith and war that goes on
with goodness or evilness of people. Atticus, the father of Scout and Jem in the story, and Atticus
is very much like a teacher in this story, for his children and his town. Atticus very much believes
that people usually contain both good and evil, but that good will usually fall in other words
fail. Atticus teaches this to his children, but also to the town, just like when he defends Tom
Robinson, an innocent black man accused of raping and beating Mayella Ewell. In a town that
accused back then being the racist town in america. Despite the challenge of overcoming the
town s having racism and forcing people to change themselves just to fit in with the rest of
society, Atticus struggles with this because he believes that one day, goodness will defeat the
evils of racism and peace will come, Atticus mentions that on what he wants society to see saying
I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a
gun in his hand. It s when you know you re licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see
it through no matter... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jem leads this change, because he is older than Scout, but both of them end up experience it. At
the beginning of the story, they approach life as a good thing believing that goodness is in all
people, thinking everyone understands and also have same concept of mind they and their father
do. Atticus showed this by giving Scout advice saying First of all, he said, if you can learn a
simple trick, Scout, you ll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really
understand a person until you consider things from his point of view. until you climb into his skin
and walk around in it. (3.85 87). Showing Scout that people can

Examples Of Stereotyping In The Workplace
A stereotype is a way to determine where a person or thing falls in the realm of life. Stereotyping
is a natural part of life and it actually does have a meaning in reality. It allows a person s mind to
work properly and for the human brain to be able to recognize, process, store and then recall the
information when needed. It can also be used in racial, political, and religious ways and many
more ways. Stereotyping in a racial way is judging people by the color of their skin, where they
come from, or the language they speak. It can be both good and bad to stereotype, it just depends on
how it is being said. Stereotyping in a religious way is judging people by what they believe in.
Stereotyping in a political way is judging people in the political party they support.... Show more

It causes low morale for a single person who is doing it or a group of people. A general problem a
workplace can encounter is stereotyping other people and it can give bad publicity and a bad
reputation for the workplace. It is illegal to discriminate against people and the consequences are
very crucial. If the workplace requires teamwork it is a very bad thing to stereotype and the
company will not be as successful. A company wants good working relationships with its
employees, not bad working relationships. When one person is judging another, they no longer
have the need to get to know each other and think of themselves as if they are better than the other.
Communication is key for two individuals and groups and an essential part for the workplace. It is
important to be open minded of other people and judge people on first impressions instead of not

The Perception of African Americans in the Media and How...
The Perception of African Americans in the Media and How it Affects Their Self Identity
There has been much debate over the perception of African Americans in the media and how it
affects their self identity. It is easy to find examples of bias in portraying African Americans, but
not a lot of causal research to prove that it causes problems with self identity. A case can even be
made that the amount of media presence by African Americans, whether biased or un biased, has
greatly helped to unify and give voice to a small minority group.
The role of the media in the social identity of African Americans
According to the United States Census Bureau (2001), 12.3% of all people reporting as one race
reported they were Black or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before 1787, of course, African Americans were slaves and only thought of as chattel. In 1787
the U.S. Constitution was ratified. It provided for the continuation of the slave trade for another
20 years and stipulated that a slave counted as three fifths of a man for purposes of representation
by government. In 1865 some headway was gained when the Thirteenth Amendment was passed,
outlawing slavery and establishing a Freedmen s Bureau to assist former slaves. Also in 1865
Union General, William T. Sherman issued a field order setting aside 40 acre plots of land in
Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida for African Americans to settle. Yet, in 1866, all white
legislatures in the former Confederate states passed the, so called, Black Codes sharply cutting the
freedom of African Americans and virtually re enslaving the race. Since that time there have been
many gains and set backs for African Americans. Given the history of the United States treatment of
African Americans, it is easy to understand how they could struggle for their true identity. Perhaps
James Jones (1991) says it best when he states, Black personality is in part an adaptation to the
political contours of racism. The conflict between the freedoms and rights of United States citizens
is juxtaposed to the denial of freedom and rights that is the history of the African American
presence in this

The Diversity Of Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder
Introduction Throughout my life, I have always been taught to be respectful and grateful. My
mother instilled in me these two values at a young age and emphasized on its significance. This
helped me realize that, in this world, there are many people who undergo unbearable adversities,
far worse, traumatic, and painful than I do. This awakening encouraged me to be more grateful
for my experiences. As a child, I was cognizant of people with mental disorders but there had
always been that barrier that prevented me from approaching and getting to know them better
until I met my best friend s brother in high school. It was as if a new door opened up to my sense
of identity and self awareness in this world. Fortunately, as years passed by, my best friend s
brother and I grew close. I realized that autistic people were people just like us who needed to be
cared for and loved compassionately just like every human being. This past year, I started working
for a company that shelters people diagnosed of AutismSpectrum Disorder, which allowed me to
firsthand witness what was so new to me, and most important to learn about the disorder. According
to CDC, autism spectrumdisorder is a group of developmental disabilities that can cause significant
social communication and behavioral challenges (2015). Needless to say, while people diagnosed
of ASD may carry these developmental incapacities, it typically does not distinguish them from
other people. For this purpose, this disorder

him: You don t lock up your brother. Not only does he make Wesley feel bad, but he threatens to

Many people saw the results of this book as good, but they did not see the corruption it caused. Upton Sinclair s The Jungle changed food regulation in America forever, but the effects that came about because of The Jungle were more detrimental than beneficial. Upton Beall Sinclair grew up in a poor family, always moving around from city to city with his father s job as a salesman. His mother, Priscilla Sinclair, had rich relatives on her side of the family whom Upton would visit with some regularity. As he grew up this allowed him to see how the rich and the poor lived, giving him an insight that shaped his career as a writer and journalist. He did not have a good relationship with either his mother or father, causing him to become independent at a young age. When he was just fourteen his family moved to New York city and he started writing to pay for his tuition at the City College of New York. He went on to graduate from Columbia University, paying his way with stories he wrote. His early career consisted of small novels and journal articles that never became well known. An Analysis Of Pope Innocent IV This source is an excerpt from a letter from Pope Innocent IV to King henry III of England on the 23rd January 1245, shortly after the sacking of Jerusalem by Khwarezmian forces in the same year. When a Pope traditionally launches a crusade it is accompanied with excitatoria, formal letters appealing to nobility and kings for contribution to the forthcoming campaign. Although this letter was intended for the English king, Peter Jackson implies that the missing letter to King Louis IX would have almost have been identical concerning its content, language and the overarching appeal for the crusade to respond to the sacking of Jerusalem at the hands of the Khwarezmians. He immediately found himself in a difficult position as pope, with numerous issues arising, such as the hostility escalating between the Holy Roman Emperor and the papacy, the increase of Islamic incursions into the Holy Land and of course the Mongol invasion of Europe. There was indeed prior warning of the defensive vulnerability of the Kingdom of Jerusalem, as Pope Innocent IV received a letter complaining that there were only one hundred pilgrim knights defending the city, and more reinforcements from Western Europe was needed for protection. Although this may have been note by the newly appointed Pope, the struggle with the Holy Roman Emperor through the continuation of Pope Gregory IX s policy against Frederick II may have overshadowed this plea from the Holy Land. In fact, Pope Innocent IV s position was so untenable in Rome due to the Emperor s actions to increase dissent, that he fled to Lyon and immediately set about organising the Council of Lyon for 1245. His letter to Henry III was part of an effort from his base in Lyon to call for a crusade in reaction to the sacking of Jerusalem by the Khwarezmians, but he struggled to garner much support for the crusade due to the internal struggles within Europe, with only King Louis IX fully committed to the campaign. The relationship between Pope Innocent IV and King Henry III is one of note, as since the ties between Rome and the English King were established early through the papal support given to Henry at the end of the Baron s war. The papacy desperately needed political allies due to the increasing threat posed by the military might of the Holy Roman Emperor and Henry II could be said to be one of them. Although the papacy could find respite through their relationship between the King of France and King of England respectively, the relationship between the two kingdoms was strenuous. A crusade ... He surprised most observers when he entered into discussions with Ronald Reagan in 1980 about running on the Republican ticket with the former governor of California. However, Ford took the offer to the media (specifically to CBS anchor Walter Cronkite in a convention interview); feeling betrayed, an angry Reagan withdrew the offer, which ultimately went to George H.W. Theme of Isolation in The Awakening Essays Theme of Isolation in The Awakening One theme apparent in Kate Chopin s novel, The Awakening, is the consequence of solitude when independence is chosen over conformity. The novel s protagonist, Edna Pontellier, is faced with this consequence after she embarks on a journey of self discovery. As Ednas ability to express herself grows, the number of people who can understand her newfound language shrinks (Ward 3). Reisz feels the music is a mode of communication between Edna and herself. This prompts her to tell Edna during a party, You are the only one worth playing for (Chopin 700). The music calls to something within Edna, which further wakes her from the slumber of domesticity. As Edna realizes the expressive nature of music, she wants to apply this expression to her painting. She seeks the encouragement of her first teacher of expression, Madame Ratignolle, hoping her kind words will help her put her heart into her venture (Chopin 723). When Edna surrendered to the service of art her husband noted, she was not herself. That is, he could not see the she was becoming herself (Chopin 724). Self expression through art progresses Edna in her new sense of self, but one more form must be learned to complete her transformation. Lastly, Edna explores self expression in her own physical passion. • 12. Hippocampus Water Maze The hippocampus has been known to be the storage center for learning and memory in the brain (Wirsching et al., 1984). The mapping theory developed by O Keefe and Nadel (1978) and O Keefe and Conway (1980) proposed that there is a relationship between the hippocampus and storing spatial information, which allows animals to map out the surrounding area and locate itself in proportion to its surroundings. The importance of stimulus load from the environment has been tested with rats in visually altered mazes to examine the role of muscarinic receptors, or acetylcholine receptors, on using surrounding visual cues. The results showed that the muscarinic receptors are important for processing visual discrimination cues to provide the rat with consistent information about the environment; however, scopolamine injected rats had no improvement with one or more visual cues (Tsui and Drigenberg, 2012). Affectively based attitudes are based more on people s feelings and values than on their beliefs about the nature of an attitude object. The two ways are persuasion through the central route and the persuasion through the peripheral route. The elaboration likelihood model refers to processing the message which is related to the cognitively based attitudes. Persuasive communication is most successful in changing attitudes when going through the central route because the audience is motivated, whereas with the peripheral route the audience is not motivated. Now I am going to discuss the routes of persuasion through advertisements in detail. • 41. The Victorian Era Art Historian, Daniel Siedell said, In such a society as the Victorians , when public society is so stifling, steam is naturally going to be driven underground. The reform of the Victorian era, a time in England of refinement and high decorum surrounding the years of Queen Victoria s reign, did not produce revolution but the opposite: stagnation. And so at this time in England there were ingredients present to create a real revolution and bring a dismantling of the Victorian spirit, but they were underground and silent. Oscar Wilde aimed to bring that underground movement above ground through flagrancy. Wilde s innovative faith as well as shocking literature were two gears of the same vehicle. They were gears dependent upon each other to bring anti Victorian aestheticism to the surface of English society and culture. Oscar Wilde s literary revolt against propriety paralleled his unconventional view of religion both were a rejection of law and an embrace of beauty. In as much as Wilde influenced The Victorian eraand what came thereafter, the Victorians society in England was Wilde s environment and the cause of who he was. The era, during and around when Queen Victoria was on the throne in England, was characterized by what they thought was, revolution. It was grounded on delicacy, refinement, good words, and all other forms of high decorum that reflected the prosperous bourgeoisie according to Walter Murdoch, a prominent Australian academic and essayist (18). • 44. Persuasive Essay On Charter Schools President Trump s choice for Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, was confirmed on February 7th, 2017, and her support for charter schools has become a priority in the administration. CNN reports that DeVos has been a strong advocate in the past for school choice, lobbying for charter schools in her home state of Michigan years prior to her confirmation. President Trump stated his education plan would put forth billions of dollars into school choice programs across the United States. Charter schools are publicly funded and independently run, in some cases operated by for profit and often do not hire unionized teachers a distinction that has put them at odds with teacher unions (Grinberg 2017). DeVos labels charter schools as an extension of public education, while critics of school choice point to both the unchecked power of charter school administrators, and the poor test scores of the students in Michigan charter schools the schools DeVos lobbied for in the past. School choice supporters anticipate the new administration to allocate both state and federal money for vouchers that can be used for a variety of schools including completely private, religious, and home schooling. However controversial, charter schools are experiencing a growth in popularity in locations such as Washington D.C., Arizona, Colorado, and Florida. The shift from public schools to charter schools could dramatically increase given the influx of potentially $20 billion into school choice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Examples Of Stereotyping In The Workplace A stereotype is a way to determine where a person or thing falls in the realm of life. Stereotyping is a natural part of life and it actually does have a meaning in reality. It allows a person s mind to work properly and for the human brain to be able to recognize, process, store and then recall the information when needed. It can also be used in racial, political, and religious ways and many more ways. Stereotyping in a racial way is judging people by the color of their skin, where they come from, or the language they speak. It can be both good and bad to stereotype, it just depends on how it is being said. Stereotyping in a religious way is judging people by what they believe in. A company wants good working relationships with its employees, not bad working relationships. • 47. The Perception of African Americans in the Media and How... The Perception of African Americans in the Media and How it Affects Their Self Identity There has been much debate over the perception of African Americans in the media and how it affects their self identity. It is easy to find examples of bias in portraying African Americans, but not a lot of causal research to prove that it causes problems with self identity. A case can even be made that the amount of media presence by African Americans, whether biased or un biased, has greatly helped to unify and give voice to a small minority group. The role of the media in the social identity of African Americans According to the United States Census Bureau (2001), 12.3% of all people reporting as one race reported they were Black or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before 1787, of course, African Americans were slaves and only thought of as chattel. In 1787 the U.S. Constitution was ratified. It provided for the continuation of the slave trade for another 20 years and stipulated that a slave counted as three fifths of a man for purposes of representation by government. In 1865 some headway was gained when the Thirteenth Amendment was passed, outlawing slavery and establishing a Freedmen s Bureau to assist former slaves. Also in 1865 Union General, William T. Sherman issued a field order setting aside 40 acre plots of land in Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida for African Americans to settle. Yet, in 1866, all white legislatures in the former Confederate states passed the, so called, Black Codes sharply cutting the freedom of African Americans and virtually re enslaving the race. Since that time there have been many gains and set backs for African Americans. Given the history of the United States treatment of African Americans, it is easy to understand how they could struggle for their true identity. Perhaps James Jones (1991) says it best when he states, Black personality is in part an adaptation to the political contours of racism. The conflict between the freedoms and rights of United States citizens is juxtaposed to the denial of freedom and rights that is the history of the African American presence in this ... • 48. The Diversity Of Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder Introduction Throughout my life, I have always been taught to be respectful and grateful. My mother instilled in me these two values at a young age and emphasized on its significance. This helped me realize that, in this world, there are many people who undergo unbearable adversities, far worse, traumatic, and painful than I do. This awakening encouraged me to be more grateful for my experiences. As a child, I was cognizant of people with mental disorders but there had always been that barrier that prevented me from approaching and getting to know them better until I met my best friend s brother in high school. It was as if a new door opened up to my sense of identity and self awareness in this world. Fortunately, as years passed by, my best friend s brother and I grew close. I realized that autistic people were people just like us who needed to be cared for and loved compassionately just like every human being. This past year, I started working for a company that shelters people diagnosed of AutismSpectrum Disorder, which allowed me to firsthand witness what was so new to me, and most important to learn about the disorder. According to CDC, autism spectrumdisorder is a group of developmental disabilities that can cause significant social communication and behavioral challenges (2015). Needless to say, while people diagnosed of ASD may carry these developmental incapacities, it typically does not distinguish them from other people. For this purpose, this disorder ...
