United States And The United Kingdom Essay
Two of the most powerful democracies in the modern era, the United States and the United Kingdom
lead as examples as very successful forms of democratic government. Yet despite both states utilizing
democratic governments, both differ greatly on how they operate as a state and through its
governmental structure.
The Constitution:
The U.S created its current constitution after the failures of the Articles of Federation. It created a
strong central government that derived its powers from the constitution but also shared powers with
state and local governments. The UK on the other hand, does not have a single document that stands
as its constitution but instead enacts constitutional provisions over several Acts of Parliament. U.S
constitution is extremely difficult to ratify through political means. This contrasts greatly to UK Acts
of Parliament which can be changed by a simple majority in the legislature. The most important aspect
of the American constitution is the strict separation of powers of the executive, legislature, and the
judiciary branches of government. This separation of powers allows each branch to work
independently but also allow them to check each other s powers if one branch oversteps their
boundaries. Checks and balances within the three branches serve to limit but also connect each to
work together while being independent of each other. In the UK however, no such formal separation
of powers is present. The Government Minster must be a member of one of the

Selenium Essential to the human body, selenium is a trace element which defends against oxidation

P. 2012). According to The National Centre for Complementary and Integrative Health (2013) clinical
studies of antioxidant supplements have not found them to provide substantial health benefits. Some
possible reasons for this include: The positive health effects of a diet high in fruit and vegetables or
other antioxidant rich foods may actually be caused by other substances present in the same foods.
Differences in the chemical composition of antioxidants in foods versus those in supplements may
influence the overall effect. The relationship between free radicals and health may be more complex
than previously thought. Free radicals may actually be beneficial rather than harmful and removing
them may not be desirable. Rayman, M. P. (2012) explains that of all the body tissues, the thyroid

effective against the autoimmune condition Hashimoto s thyroiditis (commonly known as an
underactive thyroid) as well as Graves disease (known as an overactive

Conquest Of Constantinople Research Paper
The conquest of Constantinople was wrongly justified and resulted with the fall of the Byzantine
Empire. The Fourth Crusade began when the Crusaders went to Venice to ask for ships to sail to Egypt
but was unable to afford it. In exchange for ships, the Crusaders agreed to regain the city of Zara
under Hungarian rule. The Crusaders were able to claim back Zara for the Venetians but were
excommunicated since they attacked a Christian city. Right before they were going to Egypt, Alexius
Comnenus asked for help from the Crusaders to help him restore his power in the Byzantine Empire.
In exchange for help, Alexius would provide the Crusaders, supplies, ships and necessary help for the
siege of Jerusalem. In 1203, the Crusaders would band with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the sermon, the bishops insisted that soldiers ...confess their sins and receive the communion
devoutly; and said that they ought not to hesitate to attack the Greeks, for the latter were enemies of
God. 2 Although the Crusaders were excommunicated by Pope Innocent III, the bishops still had the
power to claim the war was just under the name of God. When the Crusaders began sacking the city
they engaged in stealing gold and silver, others precious stones... 3 This was justified since it was
considered a right of conquest... 4 This wrongful justification was obviously fueled by the agreement
made with Alexius to restore power for goods. Time and time again in the conquest of Constantinople,
the Crusaders would wrongly justify their attacks in the name of God or righteousness. The Fourth
Crusade was initiated based on greed and the idea the Crusaders could gain more for their siege of the
Holy Land. The Crusaders chose to attack Zara, a Christian city to get ships against the pleasing of the
Pope. The Crusaders would get the ships but then attempt to gain more by helping Alexius regain his
power in the Byzantine empire. They justified their attacks on Constantinople as holy and

Sweatshops Essay
Sweatshops over the world can be improved through simple and big changes on both the foreign as
well as American fronts. Sweatshops have always been viewed as a negative thing but no one has
really tried to change or improve upon them, it is more of an out of sight out of mind mentality. In the
book Where am I Wearing, the author Kelsey Timmerman said ... is that we should try to be engaged
consumers... ( Timmerman 9 ). Society knows it is happening so why not find ways to improve these
sweatshops instead of just ignoring the issues at hand. We live in a turbulent, imbalanced world. It can
be depressing to think about ( Timmerman 41) By having Labor Unions that are there for the people

Labor Unions could help to enforce labor laws to improve the factories and the conditions within (
Arnold ). These unions could make up for lack of government enforcement within the areas of that the
labor unions ( Arnold ). Also it does not cost a thing to make sure that people are following the rules to
the best of their ability ( Arnold ). Labor unions are beginning to be created to help with these issues
of the factory workers such as their rights and how to educate people of these rights.
As stated before labor unions are a way to improve working conditions but there are others as well.
Sweatshops can make simple improvements by using scraps around the factory to make simple
improvements ( Arnold ). Making improvements can be done in a very simple and low cost ways
especially depending on the size of the company ( Arnold ). In a NIKE sweatshop a worker wanted to
use the rubber waste as a cushion for iron molds so they would not slam against the furnace to
hopefully eliminate noise in the work area, they would not allow the worker to do this (Arnold).
Making conditions better will cause a reduction in the amount of deaths, injuries, and illnesses that
occur from the poor regulation of working conditions in these factories.
Still explaining different ways to improve upon sweatshops as well as the workers lives, improving
wages is a way to achieve this. This is simple as it is a moral obligation for the employer to provide
decent wages for

Marco Polo Comparison
Since the beginning of civilization, many travelers left their homelands in order to explore new
territories and cultures. Travelers such as Xuanzang, Marco Polo, and Ibn Battuta were all introduced
to new ideas that were recorded. During the Post Classical period, travelers in the new world
encountered shocking ideas that led them to engage in a wider world.
Although travelers visited various parts of the world, similar outlooks on different cultures were made
during the travels of Xuanzang, Marco Polo, and Ibn Battuta. One similarity between travelers in the
new world is the observation of religions. In A Biography of the Tripitaka Master , Xuanzang
experienced how Buddhism was practiced in India. Similarly, In The Travels of Marco Polo , ... Show

One difference between travelers in the new world is the experience of world religions in different
continents. In The Travels of Marco Polo , Marco Polo had only experienced Buddhism in China. In
Ibn Battuta s Travels in Asia and Africa , Ibn Battuta s experience of Arab Islam showed him the
differences between Islam in different parts of Africa, as well as in the Middle East and Africa.
Another difference between travelers in the new world is the evaluation of economic features in
different societies. In The Travels of Marco Polo , Marco Polo observes the trading aspects of Indian
Ocean trade in Ganfu. This is important because it shows the effects that trade has in China. Unlike
Marco Polo, Xuanzang in A Biography of the Tripitaka Master focuses on the religious aspects in
Indian society. An additional difference between travelers in the new world is discovering prominent
social aspects of societies. In Record of the Western Region , Xuanzang describes the social classes in
the caste system, as well as the limitations of marriage for women in India . In The Travels of Marco
Polo , Marco Polo describes the respect of citizens for married women, as well as their king. This is
important because it shows the difference between the social aspects of China and

Memorandum of Oral Pleading
Memorandum of Oral Pleading
Parties: Mr de Jong (Claimant) and Mini Coza (Defendant)
Date and time: Thursday 4th October 2012, 10:00hrs
Judge: Mr. de Vries
The Group: Pasi Lindqvist, Daan Bredenbeek, Nick Bruurmijn and Redmer van Berkum
Overview of the Facts and the Compensation Sought
On the 1st of January 2011 the claimant Mr. de Jong purchased a buggie through a German provider
Mini Coza, who operated in the Netherlands for €275. The buggie was to be used by the claimant s
over one year old son Daan.
According to the product description the buggie was suitable for kids aged one year onwards. The
claimant used the buggie in a proper and normal manner on a paved path without any serious
obstacles. Regardless of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Misrepresentation has occurred in the sense of providing misleading product description inducing the
claimant to buy the product i.e. to conclude the contract with the trader.
Because of the defective performance the council of the claimant suggests that the buggy shall be
replaced, as special performance on the part of the trader, with a similar product. This can be
established by Article 6:103, which states that the compensation can be paid in another form than only
money, in this case, a new buggy.
Tort Law Wrongful Act: Dutch Private Law (BW)
Tort Law and Wrongful Act shall be used in the claimant s case because of the fact that the purchase
price of the buggy has been below €500. Therefore the rules and regulations of product liability do not
hold, and the case needs to be considered in terms of a wrongful act.
First of all the fact that Mini Coza has manufactured a defect product, and furthermore the fact that
Mini Coza has let this faulty product to enter the market, which finally led to a one year old child to
fall down to the ground and hurt himself, can be considered as a wrongful act. This is established by
Article 6:162 in the Dutch Private Law, which measures the wrongful act.
Furthermore, this wrongful act has caused damages to the claimant s son, which can be represented by
the monetary damage (the medical costs) worth of €2500.

The Justice Theatre At A Young Age
The Justice Theatre presentation #2 that we watched in the gym was very interesting and it gave a
huge example of the gang lifestyle. We focus on the fun things of joining a gang and we don t
understand the negative side. When you do notice the negative side, you might feel like you have no
hope for the future to what you have chosen. Gang members lead very dangerous lives. Discrimination
attitudes are behind some gang violence. Joining a gang at a young age is a big problem itself. Gang
members are often involved to violence, drugs and crime. Also, once a gang member joins it can be
very difficult for them to get out of the gang. Gangs affect communities as well because violence can
often lead to innocent people being injured or killed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

actually happen before in vancouver but the characters was not the actual as the ones in the real
situation. We all were settled and as the judge and the others were ready, we all rose up just for
showing respect because that is what always happens in a real court .The accused came up to the judge
and swore to say everything as the truth but only as the truth. After this it started. The accused name
was, Harjit and he blamed justin (I think this was the name) as guilty for kidnapping Harjit. This
changed Harjit and Harjit started to live a fearful life.
Harjit started to tell his story of how he got involved with all this. He started it by saying that when he
used to go to school, he used to see this group of other people who used to have expensive cars and
other things and when Harjit asked where they got that cool car, the person said that you just have to
do tiny tasks in return of cool cars, money, and other expensive things. When the other person (gang
member) said that would you like to join us and Harjit said yeh. Harjit never knew that this was going
to lead him to a total opposite world. The gang member told him that he had to transport drugs over
the border. Harjit knew that this was illegal, but he still said yes. Harjit transported drugs about 2 or 3
times. And once when Harjit got

AICPA s Principles on Ethics
Abstract
Life is all about making decisions. Every day we are faced with situations that lead us to making
decisions. At times those decisions might be wrong, sometimes right. When facing a dilemma it s easy
to make a decision, but it s even more difficult to make a right and ethical decision. Any person can
make a decision, but they won t always make the right decision. Decision making gets tougher when it
comes to making the right and ethical decision, especially when it comes to the business world
because your decision will no longer affect you, but it would also affect others. Therefore, you must

It highlights the importance of auditors applying sensitive and ethical judgments in all their
engagements. Members have the responsibility to collaborate with each other to improve the art of
accounting, as well as to maintain the public s confidence. The auditor s responsibilities are essential
to an effective audit process because through planning, auditors should to communicate with each

most important parts in auditing is planning, for that reason responsibility is a must.

Age Discrimination In Employment Act (ADEA)
I m responding to question 1 about the displacement of the 52 year old male manager. In this case, the
employer might have violated the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), which protects
against age based discrimination on employees aged 40 and above. ADEA applies if the company has
more than 20 employees and the business activities affect interstate commerce. However, to prove that
the employer has indeed violated ADEA, the employee must show that age was the sole reason for his
layoff. This could prove difficult in court though, because under ADEA, the plaintiff bears the burden
of proof. If his supervisor made no open comments about him being too old, it could be very difficult
to prove that the decision to terminate him was based

The Pizza Ovens And Fryers Make It Extremely Hot At Sam s...
The pizza ovens and fryers make it extremely hot at Sam s Pizza. All three pizza ovens are set to 550
degrees and, and all three fryers are set to 400 degrees. In the summer the temperature can reach over
100 degrees in the pizza shop. Working an 8 hour shift in these temperatures can be a grueling
experience. The heat in the shop matched with the buffet and non stop pizza order phone calls make it
even worse. I remember the first time working a long shift when I started working at Sam s. It was
harder than I would have ever imagined. The heat really affected my ability to work efficiently. After a
few hours I could tell I wasn t working as hard as I was at the beginning of my shift. Working tired

Analysis of the Poem War Photographer
War Photographer by Carol Ann Duffy In his darkroom he is finally alone with spools of suffering set

It is seen that the photographer s feelings are brought out in two contrasting situations, at home and
while at warfront. The poet continues to describe the sufferings of the photographer when his mental
state is compared as he is travelling between the two contrasting worlds one the warfront which is full
of destruction and chaos and the other is Rural England, probably countryside that is peaceful and
serene. He compares the pain of war to simple pain of changing weather back at home in England.
There being nothing worse then the harsh weather that the children have to face as against the mines
that explode on the running feet of the children affected by war. This only tells us that the
photographer longs peace and he is deeply moved by the affected children. His prolonged thoughts are
presented with great effect by the use of enjambment in this line and this adds to the effect of
continuity of thoughts. From a realistic tone the poet moves on to a mysterious tone when she opens
this third stanza with something is happening. Probably something unforgettable, frustrating and
unbearable is happening. This is unfolded in the subsequent line, half formed ghost, it s the body of a
dead soldier which seems to be haunting the photographer who is dead. His conscience is pricking him
for he had to seek the dead soldier wife s s permission

Negative Ramifications Of The Industrial Revolution
Positive and Negative Ramifications of the Industrial Revolution Long hours, low pay, new
inventions, and business booms all became a commonplace in the Industrial Revolution. The
Industrial Revolution took place between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. It began in Great
Britain and over time eventually spread throughout the rest of Europe. During this time period a lot of
changes in the economy occurred. These changes affected everything from manufacturing to how an
average person lived their everyday lives. Although the Industrial Revolution had many negative

New and different inventions were a positive ramification that came out of the Revolution. New
inventions were a way of building on society and without almost all of these inventions technology
and production would not be advanced later on in time. Some of the inventions to come out of this
were the Steam Engine, Steam Boat, the telephone, Spinning Jenny, Cotton Gin, and Power Loom. All
of these inventions helped to create industrialization and advancement in technology ( Important
Inventions ). Another significant result of this time era was new laws and regulations. Early in the
Revolution in factories and workplaces there were no laws or regulations that prohibited things like
the bad treatment of employees, under age working children, dangerous machinery, and many more.
The Factory Act for example limited nine sixteen year olds an eight hour a day work shift, thirteen to
eighteen year olds a twelve hour work shift a day, and children who are under the age of thirteen have
to have at least two hours of education paid for by their employers. Other acts that were put in place
are the Health and Moral of Apprentices Act, Peel s Factory Act, and the Mines Act ( The Industrial ) .

Summary Of Golding In Lord Of The Flies
During this portion of the chapter, Jack, tired from running, stops walking through the forest to catch
his breath. The character continued on. His hair had grown longer and was lighter from the sun s rays.
His back was sunburn and was starting to peel. Only wearing his distressed shorts and carrying a sharp
stick in his right hand, Jack crouches to within inches of the ground as the narrator notes, He closed
his eyes, raised his head, and breathed in gently with flared nostrils, assessing the current of warm air
for information. The forest and he were very still (Golding 48). Jack continues walking forward. The
forest is quiet, more overwhelming than the heat. As the sound from a bird echoes through the trees,
Jack crouches for cover and the narrator notes, And for a minute became less a hunter than a furtive
thing, ape like among the tangle of trees (Golding 49). On his knees, Jack angrily scrutinizes the
ground, looking for a clue. Moving like a shadow under the trees, he stoops down again and examined
the ground. With his spear raised Jack walks deeper into the forest. Finally, he comes across a pig run.
After hearing movement Jack steadily rises to his feet. Moving his right arm back, he threw the spear
with all his might. The sound of hoofs stammering comes from the pig run, which meant for Jack,
meat. Running from under the bushes, Jack picks up his spear ready to kill, but the narrator notes that
the pattering of pigs trotters died away in the distance (Golding

Cardiovascular Health Risk Factors Among Americans
Cardiovascular disease has gained a global attention due to the overwhelming number of cases
reported annually. Stakeholders from various health monitoring agencies, health care providers, and
government agencies have come together to tackle the disease, and reduce morbidity and mortality.
Organizations such as the Million Hearts Initiative, the American Heart Association (AHA) 2020
Goals, and the Healthy People 2020 goals have established public health objectives aimed at targeting
cardiovascular risk factors, and improving the outcome of the disease (Sidney, Rosamond, Howard
Luepker, 2013). The aspirations of the AHA 2020 objectives are to enhance the cardiovascular well
being of all Americans by 20%, as well as decrease related deaths from cardiovascular diseases and
stroke by 20% (Sidney et al., 2013). Statistical analysis of the predominance of cardiovascular health
risk factors among Americans is overwhelming and therefore needs immediate action. According to
Go et al. (2013), about 31.9 million adults 20 years or older have total serum cholesterol levels greater
than or equals to 240 mg/dL. According to a statistical data recorded between 2007 to 2010, 33% of
United States adults aged 20 years of age or older are hypertensive, that is about 78 million US adults,
and 44% globally (Go et al., 2013). In 2010, an overwhelming 19.7 million people in the United States
were diagnosed with diabetes mellitus, in addition to 8.2 million unconfirmed cases, and 38.2%

Icebreakers
Icebreakers and Introductions
The first day of a course is essential to the success of the course. It is important to start the course on a
positive note by making sure all of the participants feel comfortable and get to know each other as
soon as possible. The activities the trainer or facilitator uses at the beginning of a course to help the
participants get to know each other are known as icebreakers or introductions. Here are a number of
icebreakers and introductions you can use.
Unique Characteristics Even if the participants already know each other, the clinical trainer must get

Step 3: Participants vote on which statement is a lie. The facilitator reveals which are truths and which
are lies.
Place participants in small groups (3 or 4 works well). Small groups repeat steps 1 3. Have
participants introduce each other to the large group.
What s the Question?
Step 1: The facilitator writes some facts on the board. Example:

Step 2: Participants try to think of the question that matches each fact.
Purple What s your favorite color? What color is your car? What color is your favorite clothing?
16 months How long have you lived in this city? How old is your child? How long have you been
married?
Kenya Where were you born? Where have you worked? Where are you going on vacation?

Poverty Effect On Poverty
A few Fridays ago in the west end of downtown, Davenport I was walking into my friend s house with
her son Bentley. The first thing we always do is talk about his school day. He got very excited and
threw a big, brown sack at me. I slowly opened it up and realized it was a heavily packed lunch bag.
Bentley went on to explain that his school sends food home with all the children on the weekends,
because most of them cannot afford much to eat, especially on the weekends. I had never seen a
school that went out of its way to help children that are in such desperate need. I wish all school
districts went above and beyond like Bentley s does; however that is not always the case. Across the
United States, elementary school employees/officials need to be more actively aware of the impact
poverty has on young children s academics. Children living in poverty are offered a wide range of
resources in regards to malnutrition. Quindlen specifies, 15 million students get free or cut rate
lunches at school, and many of them get breakfast, too (School s out for Summer). Young children that
receive good, balanced, nutritional meals are more likely to attend school as well as have better study
habits than those that don t receive the necessary nourishment. For the most part, in communities that
can afford to give poverty stricken families free or reduced lunch there is almost always an option for
children to get fed during the week at school. Another reliable resource that many elementary schools
offer is free lunches for students as well as their families during the summer to ensure that children eat
at least once a day while school is out. Walczak stresses, in an area where many students receive free
or reduced price school lunches, providing a solution for lunch during the summer is essential to the
children s well being (No School Shouldn t). All teachers/school officials should try to encourage
children living in poor situations to always eat when they can, because it encourages good
performance in school. Although nutrition is very important for a young child to maintain having good
hygiene is imperative to success in students as well. Lack of hygiene due to living in poverty can be
helped if the teachers know

The Levels Of Law Enforcement
Since the beginning years of American history and basically every other country has been kept safe by
the police or police type department. In the United States, there are three levels of law enforcement,
there is the Federal level, the State level, and the Local level. The levels of law enforcement have
various duties but most duties are very similar. Every day in the field is very different. The job can
also be extremely stressful, and law enforcement professionals need specific training to succeed. A
career in law enforcement is a secure job to have because crime never stops. What is law
enforcement? It is a system where members of society perform in such manner to enforce laws by
discovering, deterring, rehabilitating, or punishing the members of society who violate the laws that

investigation of crime and the apprehension of criminals (BJS).
Quick History In April of 1635, the City of Boston established the first system of law enforcement in
the 13 colonies. They were called the Night Watch , the officers worked part time with no pay. It was

Speech On Harmony In Diversity
Based on Oxford Advanced Learner s Dictionary, diversity is the state of being varied or simply we
can say diversity means variety . Diversity is a part of our life. Without diversity, everything will keep
to be same. Everyone will have same hair colour, same type of intrest, same clothes and the
worst, everyone will do the same thing, everytime, everywhere! Can you seriously imagine that?! If this
really happend,I m very sure, without any doubt , the world will be so boring . To me , diversity is like
the variety colours of rainbow. We know well that without the colours, the beautiful rainbow will
never exist. To me, that is one of the reasons why harmony in diversity must be nurtured and cherish.
When I was trying to understand this topic, the first question coming to my mind is,which country had
practiced a harmony diversity in their country. After doing some researches, I found that the country is

to recall the 13 May incident that happened on 13 May 1969 in Malaysia. This scary and frightening
tragedy is because of an argument among Chinese and Malays due to 1969 Malaysia General Election

A Dream Deferred
The poetry of Langston Hughes, the poet laureate of Harlem, is an effective commentary on the
condition of blacks in America during the 20th Century. Hughes places particular emphasis on
Harlem, a black area in New York that became a destination of many hopeful blacks in the first half of
the 1900ís. In much of Hughes poetry, a theme that runs throughout is that of a dream deferred. The
recurrence of a dream deferred in several Hughes poems paints a clear picture of the disappointment
and dismay that blacks in America faced in Harlem. Furthermore, as each poem develops, so does the
feeling behind a dream deferred, growing more serious and even angry with each new stanza. br br To

The poem changes moods with the lines I ve seen them come dark/ out of Penn Station / but the trains
are late. / The gates are open / Yet there re bars / at each gate. The people have not found what they
expected and hoped for in Harlem. These last lines help the reader to understand the feelings that
accompanied the harsh reality of Harlem. The addition of the blunt question, What happens / to a
dream deferred? maintains this understanding: this is the dream deferred, and this is what the people
were experiencing. The question is harsh and unyielding, and its position in the poem creates a feeling
of seriousness. Another Hughes poem, Same in Blues, attempts to establish further the idea of a dream
deferred, incorporating a type of dialogue between characters to explain the components of a dream
deferred, adding an element of anger to the end. The first stanza has a woman telling her man that she
has to keep moving, followed by the lines, There s a certain / amount of traveling / in a dream
deferred. This method continues through four stanzas, where peopl converse, and a new component is
introduced: a certain amount of nothing, a certain amount of impotence. The last component the poem
introduces is the most effective: There s liable / to be confusion / in a dream deferred. The poem
continues to say that there s liable to be confusion / when a dream

The Culture And Customs Of Ghana
Textile industry for centuries has played an important role in most West African societies. It has been
also a form of art that can give us information about the history of African s countries. The materials
used, the patterns, and the colors of the clothes can be associated with specific communities. For
example, Kente clothes are made from cotton, silk, and raffia. Salm and Falola claim that, The
cultures and customs of Ghana today are a product of diversity in indigenous form, influenced by a
long history of Islamic and European contacts. They represent a dynamic process of adoption and
adaptation, incorporating elements of outside cultures.
The Ghana Boy tunics are a good example of how African artists combined elements of traditional
African work with European elements. They are made in bright colors, and incorporate abstract
symbols of Western commodities and styles. This type of cloth clearly announces that people had been
abroad and know other cultures and languages.
This paper intends to show a comparison between two important symbols of the Ghanaian people s
history, the smocks and the Kente clothes, and it will be focused on the textile industry and their
makers.
The research questions developed for this study are:
In which part of Ghana are these two Ghanaian textiles usually worn?
Do these two different Ghanaian textile styles serve the same function?
What are the Challenges Ghana s textile industry has been facing during the last years?

different countries can use code switching or diglossia. They can alternate from English to Spanish, or
Spanish to French. You can change to any language during your sentence, but hopefully it is
understandable. Alternating languages in a conversation can be used by many, or foreigners. Code

Even a person knows two or more languages they can dislike others using code switching. For
example let s use Americans pronouncing Spanish words towards the Hispanic. The Hispanic will feel

Depending on the situation I can be bad, but code switching and diglossia are wonderful to use.
Determine who you like or don t like, determine if you want people to understand what you are talking
about. Aaron Block announced that diglossia can be bad, While code switching can be a good thing, it
is important to be aware of the dangers of code switching. For some, code switching is a tool to hide
their identity, religion, or social class in order to assimilate. One should not use code switching to
deny his or her identity as an important part of being an individual in a system is to maintain identity
and cultural background (Block). Going against your culture while code switching or use diglossia is
not true, people who do show they have more knowledge of a different language. It is up to that
person if they want to keep their culture or not. Aaron Block says he considers himself still religious
and still maintain his culture even though he uses code switching and diglossia, There would often be
times when I would have to explain myself to people. I have a strong cultural identity and am still
religious (Block).

Snow By Louis Macneeice Essay
A poem is an experience, not a thought. It is an experience both the author and the reader share with
one another. Authors of poems use tones, keywords, hidden messages, irony, and diction to create their
work. They use these tactics so the reader thinks about what they are reading and try evaluating what
the message is that the reader wants to get across. In the poem Snow by Louis MacNeice, he uses
these same characteristics to get the readers mind active in the words. Let s examine the poem Snow
and see what the meaning behind this poem is. To begin thinking about this poem, we should stop and
try to imagine the background of the poem. A tone could include mysterious, since the meaning is not
seen right away, but it could also be thoughtful because he allows us to think in a different way. We
know there is a main character which could be the author, but are not given his name. The setting is at
a house where the first snowfall is mixing with the flowers left from the summertime. The time period
is not given to us in the poem, so we are unsure of that. Finally, when thinking about why MacNeice
wrote this poem we can see there is a connection between the weather he is seeing outside and the
world around us. The title is very simple and can cause any reader to think the same thing. Snow
according the Merriam Webster Dictionary, the word snow has one main definition. Snow is the
precipitation in the form of small white crystals formed directly from the water vapor of the air at a
temperature less than 32 degrees. In other words, it is the frozen crystals that fall from the sky during
the winter season. Just by the title we should be able to tell what the poem will be about, but
MacNeice puts a turn on the wording of the poem to catch the reader off guard. This raises the
question if MacNeice wanted the poem to be about a snowfall, or does he have a deeper meaning
underneath the title? As the poem continues there will be more references at what the poem is about.
The first sentence gives the reader an oxymoron to think about. MacNeice talks about spawning snow,
which we could figure out from the title, but he also includes the thought of spawning pink roses
against a window. This can be confusing to

Talk Shows
TALK SHOWS The television talk show is, on the face of it, a rather strange institution. We pay
people to talk for us. Like the soap opera, the talk show is an invention of twentieth century
broadcasting. It takes a very old form of communication, conversation, and transforms it into a low
cost but highly popular form of information and entertainment through the institutions, practices and
technologies of television.
The talk show did not originate over night, at one time, or in one place. It developed out of forty years
of television practice and antecedent talk traditions from radio, Chatauqua, vaudeville and popular
theater. In defining the talk show it is useful to distinguish between television talk (unscripted

Successful talk show hosts like Mike Wallace, Johnny Carson, and Barbara Walters bridge generations
of viewers. The longevity of these super stars increases their impact on the forms and formats of
television talk with which they are associated.
Television talk shows originally emerged out of two central traditions: news and entertainment. Over
time hybrid forms developed that mixed news, public affairs, and entertainment. These hybrid forms
occupy a middle ground position between news and entertainment, though their hosts (Phil Donahue,
Oprah Winfrey, and Geraldo Rivera, for example) often got their training in journalism.
Approximately a third of the major talk show hosts listed at the end of the essay came out of news.
The other two thirds came from entertainment (comedy in particular).
Within the journalistic tradition, the names Edward R. Murrow, Mike Wallace, Ted Koppel and Bill
Moyers stand out. News talk hosts like Murrow, Koppel, and Moyers do not have bands, sidekicks, or
a studio audience. Their roles as talk show hosts are extensions of their roles as reporters and news
commentators. Their shows appear in evening when more adult and older aged viewers are watching.
The morning host teams that mix happy talk and information also generally come from the news
background. This format was pioneered by NBC s Sylvester Pat Weaver and host Dave

Investigating the Rate of Reaction Between Marble Chips...
Investigating the rate of reaction between Marble Chips (Calcium Carbonate) and hydrochloric acid
Aim.
In the investigation I am going to find out how the surface area affects the rate of reaction by
measuring the amount of gas produced and weight loss in a reaction between small/large pieces of
Marble
Chips (Calcium Carbonate) and Hydrochloric acid per minute.
Hypothesis.
The rate of reaction increases when the surface area of a solid reactant is increased. This happens
because by increasing the surface area we are also increasing the rate of collisions between the
particles. When there is more of the reactant to react with the reaction speeds up. Therefore, my
hypothesis is: the reaction will be faster when using small ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This increased the accuracy of the obtained results.
GRAPH
From the table of results and the graphs I can deduce that by increasing the surface area the rate at
which the gas was produced also increased. The line which represented the amount of gas given off on
the graph was steeper in the test using powder therefore the gas was produced at a faster rate. Roughly
the same amount of gas was produced in all tests. Therefore my hypothesis was correct.
Evaluation.
As I repeated the experiment 3 times and worked out the average rate of reaction in each test, I think
my results are quite reliable.
However, I could make further improvement by increasing the number of tests and taking the results
with a smaller gap such as 10 seconds instead of 20. I could also increase the amount of Calcium
Carbonate to more than 2g and keep the

Iran, India, and Mexico are in extremely different parts of the world, making them very different from

India:
In the past, India had a closed economy where it did not participate in international trade. Iran is not
similar to India in this way, especially because it relies on the exchange of oil with other countries as a
way to make profits. India s type of economy is one that is considered self sufficient and does not
need external aid. Recently India has transitioned to an open market economy, although it is not yet
completely an open market. In the early 1990s, there was economic growth due to industrial

India is similar to Iran in this way because Iran also worked to make economic changes in the 1990s.

was subsidies and for India it was reducing controls on foreign trade. India s economy has also

Essay On Radiotherapy And Chemotherapy
Cancer can be defined as an uncontrollable division of cells in the body, and untreated cancer can lead
to serious illness, tumors and death. Cancer related to head and neck is the most difficult to treat
because it has a direct impact on the central nervous system. Radiotherapy is used to treat head and
neck cancer, and the treatment can be combined with chemotherapy. Radiotherapy or radiation therapy
uses radiation while chemotherapy is the treatment that uses chemical agents to destroy the cancer
cells. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy have been associated with effects like seizures, suppression of
cell growth and cognitive impairment (Dietrich et al., 2006). The brain scans of the patients after

The Impact Of Western Imperialism In East Asia
Jun Woo Kang
Mr. Tirkey
IB MYP World History
April 29th, 2016
The western imperialism in East Asia begins with European interactions into what was at the moment
called East Indies. This began during the 15th century in search of trade routes leading to the Age of
Exploration of the European empires which were in the flourishing cultural and intellectual
developments with Renaissance. By the early 16th century, European merchants greatly expanded
Western European influence and established numerous trade posts with the countries in Asia,
benefiting the European countries economically. This trend originated from the Portuguese breaking
the monopoly of the Arabs and Italians of trade between Asia and Europe by the discovery of sea route
between the two continents. As a direct result, Western empires introduced their different ideologies to
the East such as their Christian beliefs, and their new weaponries. Before the Industrial Revolution in
the end of 19th century, demand for oriental goods such as spices, silk and tea remained the driving
force behind European imperialism, and the European dominance in East Asia endured with already
established trading posts between the two continents. However, industrialization dramatically ... Show

According to Ramstad, Alegra was put into detention because of a threat made to another student,
which was a complete misunderstanding. Alegra was simply sticking up for herself after being bullied
by the same student for the past year (9 News). As a result of the incident, the parents decided to hire
an attorney named Igor Raykin and may file a lawsuit against the school for the traumatization of their
daughter. Soon after the Douglas County School District General Counsel provided a statement to the
community mentioning that the safety and well being of the students are a top priority. They also
discussed how the detention room allows freedom for students to work on their homework and leave
the room when needed. However, this freedom was not demonstrated when Ramstad arrived at the
school to see her daughter in one of the rooms. The incident sparks controversy of the school s
treatment of children and brings up the question of how many other children were put into this cell
and if these children s parents were aware of this occurrence. If so, a lawsuit should be filed against
the school against those parents as well. It is sad to see the actions this elementary school decided to
take in order to fix these children s behavioral issues or in this case a misunderstood situation.
Hopefully, this news story will help the school realize their idea of detention is inhumane and
degrading.

  • 2. United States And The United Kingdom Essay Two of the most powerful democracies in the modern era, the United States and the United Kingdom lead as examples as very successful forms of democratic government. Yet despite both states utilizing democratic governments, both differ greatly on how they operate as a state and through its governmental structure. The Constitution: The U.S created its current constitution after the failures of the Articles of Federation. It created a strong central government that derived its powers from the constitution but also shared powers with state and local governments. The UK on the other hand, does not have a single document that stands as its constitution but instead enacts constitutional provisions over several Acts of Parliament. U.S constitution is extremely difficult to ratify through political means. This contrasts greatly to UK Acts of Parliament which can be changed by a simple majority in the legislature. The most important aspect of the American constitution is the strict separation of powers of the executive, legislature, and the judiciary branches of government. This separation of powers allows each branch to work independently but also allow them to check each other s powers if one branch oversteps their boundaries. Checks and balances within the three branches serve to limit but also connect each to work together while being independent of each other. In the UK however, no such formal separation of powers is present. The Government Minster must be a member of one of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

P. 2012). According to The National Centre for Complementary and Integrative Health (2013) clinical studies of antioxidant supplements have not found them to provide substantial health benefits. Some possible reasons for this include: The positive health effects of a diet high in fruit and vegetables or other antioxidant rich foods may actually be caused by other substances present in the same foods. Differences in the chemical composition of antioxidants in foods versus those in supplements may influence the overall effect. The relationship between free radicals and health may be more complex than previously thought. Free radicals may actually be beneficial rather than harmful and removing them may not be desirable. Rayman, M. P. (2012) explains that of all the body tissues, the thyroid gland has the highest selenium concentrate. Studies have shown that selenium supplementation is effective against the autoimmune condition Hashimoto s thyroiditis (commonly known as an underactive thyroid) as well as Graves disease (known as an overactive ... • 4. Conquest Of Constantinople Research Paper The conquest of Constantinople was wrongly justified and resulted with the fall of the Byzantine Empire. The Fourth Crusade began when the Crusaders went to Venice to ask for ships to sail to Egypt but was unable to afford it. In exchange for ships, the Crusaders agreed to regain the city of Zara under Hungarian rule. The Crusaders were able to claim back Zara for the Venetians but were excommunicated since they attacked a Christian city. Right before they were going to Egypt, Alexius Comnenus asked for help from the Crusaders to help him restore his power in the Byzantine Empire. In exchange for help, Alexius would provide the Crusaders, supplies, ships and necessary help for the siege of Jerusalem. In 1203, the Crusaders would band with ... In the sermon, the bishops insisted that soldiers ...confess their sins and receive the communion devoutly; and said that they ought not to hesitate to attack the Greeks, for the latter were enemies of God. 2 Although the Crusaders were excommunicated by Pope Innocent III, the bishops still had the power to claim the war was just under the name of God. When the Crusaders began sacking the city they engaged in stealing gold and silver, others precious stones... 3 This was justified since it was considered a right of conquest... 4 This wrongful justification was obviously fueled by the agreement made with Alexius to restore power for goods. Time and time again in the conquest of Constantinople, the Crusaders would wrongly justify their attacks in the name of God or righteousness. The Fourth Crusade was initiated based on greed and the idea the Crusaders could gain more for their siege of the Holy Land. The Crusaders chose to attack Zara, a Christian city to get ships against the pleasing of the Pope. The Crusaders would get the ships but then attempt to gain more by helping Alexius regain his power in the Byzantine empire. They justified their attacks on Constantinople as holy and ... • 5. Sweatshops Essay Sweatshops over the world can be improved through simple and big changes on both the foreign as well as American fronts. Sweatshops have always been viewed as a negative thing but no one has really tried to change or improve upon them, it is more of an out of sight out of mind mentality. In the book Where am I Wearing, the author Kelsey Timmerman said ... is that we should try to be engaged consumers... ( Timmerman 9 ). Society knows it is happening so why not find ways to improve these sweatshops instead of just ignoring the issues at hand. We live in a turbulent, imbalanced world. It can be depressing to think about ( Timmerman 41) By having Labor Unions that are there for the people are beginning to be a simple way to start a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Labor Unions could help to enforce labor laws to improve the factories and the conditions within ( Arnold ). These unions could make up for lack of government enforcement within the areas of that the labor unions ( Arnold ). Also it does not cost a thing to make sure that people are following the rules to the best of their ability ( Arnold ). Labor unions are beginning to be created to help with these issues of the factory workers such as their rights and how to educate people of these rights. As stated before labor unions are a way to improve working conditions but there are others as well. Sweatshops can make simple improvements by using scraps around the factory to make simple improvements ( Arnold ). Making improvements can be done in a very simple and low cost ways especially depending on the size of the company ( Arnold ). In a NIKE sweatshop a worker wanted to use the rubber waste as a cushion for iron molds so they would not slam against the furnace to hopefully eliminate noise in the work area, they would not allow the worker to do this (Arnold). Making conditions better will cause a reduction in the amount of deaths, injuries, and illnesses that occur from the poor regulation of working conditions in these factories. Still explaining different ways to improve upon sweatshops as well as the workers lives, improving wages is a way to achieve this. Travelers such as Xuanzang, Marco Polo, and Ibn Battuta were all introduced to new ideas that were recorded. During the Post Classical period, travelers in the new world encountered shocking ideas that led them to engage in a wider world. Although travelers visited various parts of the world, similar outlooks on different cultures were made during the travels of Xuanzang, Marco Polo, and Ibn Battuta. This can be established by Article 6:103, which states that the compensation can be paid in another form than only money, in this case, a new buggy. The poet continues to describe the sufferings of the photographer when his mental state is compared as he is travelling between the two contrasting worlds one the warfront which is full of destruction and chaos and the other is Rural England, probably countryside that is peaceful and serene. He compares the pain of war to simple pain of changing weather back at home in England. • 25. Poverty Effect On Poverty A few Fridays ago in the west end of downtown, Davenport I was walking into my friend s house with her son Bentley. The first thing we always do is talk about his school day. He got very excited and threw a big, brown sack at me. I slowly opened it up and realized it was a heavily packed lunch bag. Bentley went on to explain that his school sends food home with all the children on the weekends, because most of them cannot afford much to eat, especially on the weekends. I had never seen a school that went out of its way to help children that are in such desperate need. I wish all school districts went above and beyond like Bentley s does; however that is not always the case. Across the United States, elementary school employees/officials need to be more actively aware of the impact poverty has on young children s academics. Children living in poverty are offered a wide range of resources in regards to malnutrition. Quindlen specifies, 15 million students get free or cut rate lunches at school, and many of them get breakfast, too (School s out for Summer). Young children that receive good, balanced, nutritional meals are more likely to attend school as well as have better study habits than those that don t receive the necessary nourishment. For the most part, in communities that can afford to give poverty stricken families free or reduced lunch there is almost always an option for children to get fed during the week at school. Another reliable resource that many elementary schools offer is free lunches for students as well as their families during the summer to ensure that children eat at least once a day while school is out. Walczak stresses, in an area where many students receive free or reduced price school lunches, providing a solution for lunch during the summer is essential to the children s well being (No School Shouldn t). All teachers/school officials should try to encourage children living in poor situations to always eat when they can, because it encourages good performance in school. Although nutrition is very important for a young child to maintain having good hygiene is imperative to success in students as well. Hughes places particular emphasis on Harlem, a black area in New York that became a destination of many hopeful blacks in the first half of the 1900ís. In much of Hughes poetry, a theme that runs throughout is that of a dream deferred. The recurrence of a dream deferred in several Hughes poems paints a clear picture of the disappointment and dismay that blacks in America faced in Harlem. The addition of the blunt question, What happens / to a dream deferred? maintains this understanding: this is the dream deferred, and this is what the people were experiencing. The question is harsh and unyielding, and its position in the poem creates a feeling of seriousness. Another Hughes poem, Same in Blues, attempts to establish further the idea of a dream deferred, incorporating a type of dialogue between characters to explain the components of a dream deferred, adding an element of anger to the end. The first stanza has a woman telling her man that she has to keep moving, followed by the lines, There s a certain / amount of traveling / in a dream deferred. This method continues through four stanzas, where peopl converse, and a new component is introduced: a certain amount of nothing, a certain amount of impotence. The last component the poem introduces is the most effective: There s liable / to be confusion / in a dream deferred. The poem continues to say that there s liable to be confusion / when a dream ... • 29. The Culture And Customs Of Ghana Textile industry for centuries has played an important role in most West African societies. It has been also a form of art that can give us information about the history of African s countries. The materials used, the patterns, and the colors of the clothes can be associated with specific communities. For example, Kente clothes are made from cotton, silk, and raffia. Salm and Falola claim that, The cultures and customs of Ghana today are a product of diversity in indigenous form, influenced by a long history of Islamic and European contacts. They represent a dynamic process of adoption and adaptation, incorporating elements of outside cultures. The Ghana Boy tunics are a good example of how African artists combined elements of traditional African work with European elements. They are made in bright colors, and incorporate abstract symbols of Western commodities and styles. This type of cloth clearly announces that people had been abroad and know other cultures and languages. This paper intends to show a comparison between two important symbols of the Ghanaian people s history, the smocks and the Kente clothes, and it will be focused on the textile industry and their makers. The research questions developed for this study are: In which part of Ghana are these two Ghanaian textiles usually worn? Do these two different Ghanaian textile styles serve the same function? What are the Challenges Ghana s textile industry has been facing during the last years? Smock ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Depending on the situation I can be bad, but code switching and diglossia are wonderful to use. Determine who you like or don t like, determine if you want people to understand what you are talking about. Aaron Block announced that diglossia can be bad, While code switching can be a good thing, it is important to be aware of the dangers of code switching. For some, code switching is a tool to hide their identity, religion, or social class in order to assimilate. One should not use code switching to deny his or her identity as an important part of being an individual in a system is to maintain identity and cultural background (Block). Going against your culture while code switching or use diglossia is not true, people who do show they have more knowledge of a different language. It is up to that person if they want to keep their culture or not. • 31. Snow By Louis Macneeice Essay A poem is an experience, not a thought. It is an experience both the author and the reader share with one another. Authors of poems use tones, keywords, hidden messages, irony, and diction to create their work. They use these tactics so the reader thinks about what they are reading and try evaluating what the message is that the reader wants to get across. In the poem Snow by Louis MacNeice, he uses these same characteristics to get the readers mind active in the words. Let s examine the poem Snow and see what the meaning behind this poem is. To begin thinking about this poem, we should stop and try to imagine the background of the poem. A tone could include mysterious, since the meaning is not seen right away, but it could also be thoughtful because he allows us to think in a different way. We know there is a main character which could be the author, but are not given his name. The setting is at a house where the first snowfall is mixing with the flowers left from the summertime. The time period is not given to us in the poem, so we are unsure of that. Finally, when thinking about why MacNeice wrote this poem we can see there is a connection between the weather he is seeing outside and the world around us. The title is very simple and can cause any reader to think the same thing. Snow according the Merriam Webster Dictionary, the word snow has one main definition. Snow is the precipitation in the form of small white crystals formed directly from the water vapor of the air at a temperature less than 32 degrees. In other words, it is the frozen crystals that fall from the sky during the winter season. Just by the title we should be able to tell what the poem will be about, but MacNeice puts a turn on the wording of the poem to catch the reader off guard. This raises the question if MacNeice wanted the poem to be about a snowfall, or does he have a deeper meaning underneath the title? As the poem continues there will be more references at what the poem is about. The first sentence gives the reader an oxymoron to think about. MacNeice talks about spawning snow, which we could figure out from the title, but he also includes the thought of spawning pink roses against a window. This can be confusing to ... • 32. Talk Shows TALK SHOWS The television talk show is, on the face of it, a rather strange institution. We pay people to talk for us. Like the soap opera, the talk show is an invention of twentieth century broadcasting. It takes a very old form of communication, conversation, and transforms it into a low cost but highly popular form of information and entertainment through the institutions, practices and technologies of television. The talk show did not originate over night, at one time, or in one place. It developed out of forty years of television practice and antecedent talk traditions from radio, Chatauqua, vaudeville and popular theater. In defining the talk show it is useful to distinguish between television talk (unscripted presentational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Successful talk show hosts like Mike Wallace, Johnny Carson, and Barbara Walters bridge generations of viewers. The longevity of these super stars increases their impact on the forms and formats of television talk with which they are associated. Television talk shows originally emerged out of two central traditions: news and entertainment. Over time hybrid forms developed that mixed news, public affairs, and entertainment. These hybrid forms occupy a middle ground position between news and entertainment, though their hosts (Phil Donahue, Oprah Winfrey, and Geraldo Rivera, for example) often got their training in journalism. Approximately a third of the major talk show hosts listed at the end of the essay came out of news. The other two thirds came from entertainment (comedy in particular). Within the journalistic tradition, the names Edward R. Murrow, Mike Wallace, Ted Koppel and Bill Moyers stand out. News talk hosts like Murrow, Koppel, and Moyers do not have bands, sidekicks, or a studio audience. Their roles as talk show hosts are extensions of their roles as reporters and news commentators. Their shows appear in evening when more adult and older aged viewers are watching. The morning host teams that mix happy talk and information also generally come from the news background. In the investigation I am going to find out how the surface area affects the rate of reaction by measuring the amount of gas produced and weight loss in a reaction between small/large pieces of Marble Chips (Calcium Carbonate) and Hydrochloric acid per minute. Hypothesis. The rate of reaction increases when the surface area of a solid reactant is increased. This happens because by increasing the surface area we are also increasing the rate of collisions between the particles. When there is more of the reactant to react with the reaction speeds up. Therefore, my hypothesis is: the reaction will be faster when using small ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This increased the accuracy of the obtained results. GRAPH From the table of results and the graphs I can deduce that by increasing the surface area the rate at which the gas was produced also increased. The line which represented the amount of gas given off on the graph was steeper in the test using powder therefore the gas was produced at a faster rate. Roughly the same amount of gas was produced in all tests. Therefore my hypothesis was correct. Evaluation. As I repeated the experiment 3 times and worked out the average rate of reaction in each test, I think my results are quite reliable. However, I could make further improvement by increasing the number of tests and taking the results with a smaller gap such as 10 seconds instead of 20. I could also increase the amount of Calcium Carbonate to more than 2g and keep the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. The Impact Of Western Imperialism In East Asia Jun Woo Kang Mr. Tirkey IB MYP World History April 29th, 2016 The western imperialism in East Asia begins with European interactions into what was at the moment called East Indies. This began during the 15th century in search of trade routes leading to the Age of Exploration of the European empires which were in the flourishing cultural and intellectual developments with Renaissance. By the early 16th century, European merchants greatly expanded Western European influence and established numerous trade posts with the countries in Asia, benefiting the European countries economically. This trend originated from the Portuguese breaking the monopoly of the Arabs and Italians of trade between Asia and Europe by the discovery of sea route between the two continents. As a direct result, Western empires introduced their different ideologies to the East such as their Christian beliefs, and their new weaponries. Before the Industrial Revolution in the end of 19th century, demand for oriental goods such as spices, silk and tea remained the driving force behind European imperialism, and the European dominance in East Asia endured with already established trading posts between the two continents. Soon after the Douglas County School District General Counsel provided a statement to the community mentioning that the safety and well being of the students are a top priority.
