MOOC stands for Massive Open Online Course, which allows for interactive online learning worldwide. In 2008, Stephen Downes and George Siemens developed the first MOOC platform, enabling global learners, educators, and the public to connect and learn from one another, founding the concept of connectivism. Their platform allowed for interactive learning compared to passive learning from older distance education methods like television and radio. Some key advantages of MOOCs include sharing knowledge globally, accessing information from around the world, and learning flexibly from home. However, low completion rates and lack of accreditation are disadvantages.
This document provides an overview of meiosis. Meiosis is the process by which germ cells are produced with half the normal number of chromosomes. It occurs in two divisions called Meiosis I and Meiosis II. In Meiosis I, homologous chromosomes pair and may exchange genetic material through crossing over. The homologous chromosomes then separate, reducing the chromosome number by half. Meiosis II then separates the sister chromatids, resulting in four haploid daughter cells each with a single set of chromosomes. These germ cells can then mature into egg or sperm cells.
The document outlines an agenda to present on hunger including a PowerPoint and Prezi presentation. It defines hunger in developed and less developed countries and lists the causes of hunger as poverty, war, nature, lack of agricultural infrastructure, and over-exploitation of the environment. The consequences of hunger are discussed as lost knowledge, low birthweight babies, emotional impacts, and stunted child growth. Facts about hunger note it is the number one health risk, someone dies of hunger every 3.5 seconds, and more food is wasted in the US than donated globally in food aid.
The group presented on the topic of hunger and the social entrepreneurship organization Food from the Heart. They discussed the causes of hunger including poverty, war, natural disasters, lack of agricultural infrastructure, and environmental degradation. The consequences of hunger included increased infant mortality, exacerbated diseases, stunted growth in children, and emotional impacts. The group then showed a video and presented further details on Food from the Heart using Prezi.
This document provides information on genetics and DNA. It discusses that DNA is found coiled in chromatin in the nucleus of cells. During cell division, chromatin coils tightly to form chromosomes which are duplicated so each new cell contains a full set. DNA is made of nucleotides containing a sugar, phosphate, and one of four nitrogenous bases. The bases bond with each other to form the sides of the DNA double helix structure. Experiments by Griffith, Hershey and Chase provided evidence that DNA is the genetic material. Watson and Crick used evidence from Franklin and others to develop the first model of the DNA double helix structure. DNA holds the instructions for development and reproduction and can replicate itself through semiconservative replication.
The group presented on the topic of hunger and the social entrepreneurship organization Food from the Heart. They discussed two types of hunger experiences, the causes of hunger including poverty, war, natural disasters and lack of agricultural infrastructure. The consequences of hunger were also outlined, such as increased infant mortality, exacerbated diseases, growth stunts in children and emotional impacts. The group concluded their presentation with a video and presentation on social entrepreneurship and Food from the Heart.

Cellular respiration is the process that releases energy from glucose in the presence of oxygen. It occurs in three main stages: glycolysis, the Krebs cycle in the mitochondria, and the electron transport chain in the mitochondria. Glycolysis breaks down glucose into pyruvate, producing a small amount of ATP. The Krebs cycle further breaks down pyruvate and produces carbon dioxide, more ATP, and electron carriers. In the electron transport chain, oxygen accepts electrons to produce a large amount of ATP through an energy-releasing process. The overall equation of cellular respiration mirrors photosynthesis, with glucose and oxygen as reactants producing carbon dioxide, water, and energy.
The document discusses key characteristics of aircraft that are important for airport planning and design, including:
1) Type of propulsion, size, minimum turning/circling radii, speed, capacity, weight, wheel configuration, jet blast, fuel spillage, and noise, which all impact runway length, taxiway design, and more.
2) Common aircraft components like engines (piston, turbojet, turboprop, rocket), propellers, fuselage, wings, and controls (elevator, rudder, aileron, flaps).
3) Factors that determine an airport's layout and capacity such as aircraft sizes, speeds, weights, noise levels, and volumes of air traffic.
Unit 5 animal reproduction and developmentjane namane
This document provides an overview of animal reproduction and development. It discusses both asexual and sexual reproduction in animals. Asexual reproduction occurs through fission, budding, fragmentation, and parthenogenesis. Sexual reproduction involves the fusion of male and female gametes during internal or external fertilization. After fertilization, embryonic development proceeds through cleavage, gastrulation, and organogenesis stages. The embryo develops three germ layers that give rise to different tissues and organs. Parental care helps many animals ensure the survival of offspring to reproductive age.

THE SACRIFICE HOW PRO-PALESTINE PROTESTS STUDENTS ARE SACRIFICING TO CHANGE T...indexPub
The recent surge in pro-Palestine student activism has prompted significant responses from universities, ranging from negotiations and divestment commitments to increased transparency about investments in companies supporting the war on Gaza. This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.
