Part One (15 Marks) . 1.What Does The Prosecution Need
Part One (15 marks)
1.What does the prosecution need to prove in the courtroom for a person to be convicted of a
criminal offence? (2 marks)
To convict an individual of a criminal offence, the prosecution must be able to prove to the Jury or
Magistrate that the individual is criminally responsible. This is achieved by proving the Mens Rea
(guilty mind) and Actus Reus (guilty act) of the accused beyond all reasonable doubt.
2.What are the differences between summary and indictable offences? (3 marks)
Summary and Indictable are titles given to separate the severity of criminal/ immoral actions.

The next step in the ladder is the District Court; like the Local Court, it has both Criminal and Civil
Jurisdiction, however it hears most indictable offences in jury trials. The Supreme Courts Trial
Division has original civil and criminal jurisdiction, but it only hears the most serious of criminal

District Court and Supreme Court trial division it usually only hears appeals regarding questions of
law and not fact.

greater purpose and I want to make sure I am being honest and speaking my truth, always .
Having the lead role in a prime time sitcom is a huge deal for African American actresses and I
wanted to know how Meagan felt this role will influence the younger generations of actresses of
color and also commend her on this feat. She is proud that this role can show women that you
don t have to portray yourself in a certain way that you have other options in roles, and can be
seen as the heroin or powerhouse. The impact that she has on young women is a cause that she is
avid about. I am passionate about young women, I want to show them that you can be strong and
independent on your own, you don t always need a man. A man is a gift and how to treat them as
a gift is important , ultimately showing young women you can stand on your own two feet first
and have a man be off added value, not the thing that defines you. Good has married to movie

Beachboard Case Study
The purpose of the experimenter is to find out if the beachboard should extend the time to let the
students could be able to see all of their scores including the scores of their last tests or finals. If
yes, then how and if no, then why? The reason is that because the experimenter has experienced
many times going to Beachboard after the finalday of school to look for the last scores from
classes, but didn t see the scores of the final tests. The experimenter could only go to MyCSULB
to look for the letter grades of the courses about some weeks after the finals have been done.
About some weeks after the final, everything on Beachboard from the old courses disappeared.

would be able to see all of their final scores on Beachboard. The Beachboard could also add one
more item into its Grades tab like Final Letter Grade. If so, the students could also see their letter
grades at the end of each semester from professors without needing to log into MyCSULB or to
calculate it by themselves.

Critique of Stanley Milgram’s “Behavioral Study of
Obedience”
A Critique of Stanley Milgram s Behavioral Study of Obedience Stanley MIlgram is a Yale
University social psychologist who wrote Behavioral Study of Obedience , an article which
granted him many awards and is now considered a landmark. In this piece, he evaluates the extent
to which a participant is willing to conform to an authority figure who commands him to execute
acts that conflict with his moral beliefs. Milgram discovers that the majority of participants do obey
to authority. In this research, the subjects are misled because they are part of a learning experience
that is not about what they are told. This experiment was appropriate despite this. Throughout the
process, subjects are exposed to various signs that show them... Show more content on

Before Milgram s findings, the fact that people were inclined to obey to authority figures was
already realized. He just confirmed this belief. Milgram followed effective steps by using precise
procedures. He made sure that the experiment reflected features of an actual situation in which a
person would obey to an authority figure: offering compensation (monetary reward in this
experiment), being under pressure (Prods 1 to 4 in this case), and mentioning that the person who
obeys can withdraw. These features can also be seen in a situation where a soldier is commanded to
fire, for instance. A soldier will get a monetary compensation, is under pressure to obey because he
chose to be part of the military, and he knows that he can resign at any time. Milgram created an
experiment so precise and detailed that more than enough evidence was demonstrated. In this
experiment, subjects are explained that this is a learning experiment to ... study the effects of
punishment on memory (4). Yet, the real intention here is to measure the participants compliance
towards the experimenter. This controversy is unethical as subjects are volunteering for a cause that
does not exist. They are misled since they are not exposed to the real purpose of this study.
Nevertheless, this experiment was appropriate. Throughout the process, participants are exposed to
various indications about the intensity of the experiment. If the question about

The Influence of Advertising
What is the Influence of Advertising on our children today? The influence of advertising on our
lives, for both our children and us, for many years the influence of advertising has changed. Some
people may remember when the advertisements of toy companies were directed at the adults
instead of the kids, hoping that the adults might buy the products. Today s advertisements have
changed. Advertisements are more pervasive, sophisticated, and are now aimed directly at
getting kids addicted to products at a very young age (Marconi, JM.). This goes to show that
advertisers have realized that it is better to go right for the person who the product is for and not
for the person that will be buying it for someone else. So how has advertising... Show more content

Whether it s the Porsche ad that shows the grade school boy recognizing the car as the King of
cool and success, or the Chevy that wins the NASCAR championship; these brands are sealed
into a child s mind at a young age. The dolls that little girls play with may promote brand name
make up, board games may make use of a specific credit card, and a hot wheels racetrack often
includes a specific brand of car (Hall and Kohrs 2006). All of these promotions are paid for by
manufacturers and serve a very specific purpose. This message often has the effect of making kids
consumers of such products at an increasingly early age and assures that they develop their brand
loyalty earlier.
Is Advertising Really That Influential? There are a number of studies that support the idea that
advertising is particularly effective with children due to the fact they don t have the same critical
thinking/judgment as an adult. The brief from the APA highlights this thought and discusses how
such advertising can lead children to unhealthy food and lifestyle choices (American psychological
association 2009). Advertising has also been shown to greatly influence a child s body image and
sexual development. This young media site covers many of the related issues. Children today often
feel the influence of advertising s subtle messages more strongly that those provided by schools and
even parents. Certainly many

A dog s ability to predict an episode is also something profound. In fact, some have been able to
predict incidents 6 to 24 hours in advance. In Gregory L. Krauss journal, Pseudo seizure dogs A
study involved six patients with seizure response dogs. Four of the six experienced PNES while
the other two patients had epilepsy. After the article went to press, they saw three additional patients
with seizureresponse dogs of whom two had PNES and one had epilepsy. They further cited one
study in which a patient was alerted by his dog 7 minutes prior to having psychogenic seizures.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Oral Communication
Section A
A1)
Communication is sharing our feelings, experiences, thoughts, suggestions, feedback and etc. So
usually before communicating with another person, we tend to think of how to speak, what to
speak, when to speak and which channel I should adopt to before communicating.
The sender is the person who sends the message. Let s take an example for this case; two people
are communicating between each other. The sender is Amy and the receiver is Pond. Amy will
send the message, which is the information she would like for Pond to know. She will then encode
her message, which is transforming her message which can be transformed into written words or
verbal communication. Then, Amy must choose a channel of communication which is also known
as the manner in which the message ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everything has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantages for oral communication includes;
saves valuable time, saves cost, more powerful and effective, able to get immediate feedback and
correction of errors. The disadvantages of oral communication include; no record of what has been
spoken, probability of omitting the key point (main subject) and confused speech.
Oral communication saves time in cases of situation where an immediate action is required to be
taken. Also, if the management s work load is high, they d rather want to complete their tasks by
using oral instructions. When you are communicating verbally, you do not require any paper, pen,
stamp or a computer. Oral communications tend to persuade and control the people we are talking
to. Therefore, management often prefers to communicate to their staff by the means of oral
communication. Moving on to the fourth point, the speaker can get almost an immediate feedback
on whether the feedback is negative or positive for the speaker. This implies that the receiver
clearly understood what the speaker meant and gives a high possibility for

Julius Caesar Persuasive Analysis
In Julius Caesar, Shakespeare s Brutus persuades the plebeians that killing Caesar was justified,
through constant interrogation appealing nationalism.. Brutus s constant interrogation creates
the connection that killing Caesar was justified and good to Rome. Brutus quickly yells the
question Had you rather Caesar were living, and die all slaves, than that Caesar were dead, to
live all freemen? (III.ii.24 6). Brutus phrases the question this way he does in order to create an
association in the plebeians minds that if Caesar were alive, they would all be slaves. This
creates a lose lose situation for the plebeians, and deviates attention from the real problem. The
constant rhetorical questions allow Brutus to manipulate the crowd without outright stating it.
It guides the plebeians to the same conclusion, but allows them to believe they came up with the
conclusion themselves. Many plebeians would not have heeded his word if Brutus did not
present the question the way he did, and remained focused on the fact that Brutus killed Caesar.
Brutus continues to interrogate the crowd, Who is here so base that would be a bondman? If
any, speak for him have I offended. Who is here so rude that would not be a Roman? If any,
speak for him have I offended. Who is here so vile that will not love his country? If any, speak
for him have I offended. (III.ii.30 6). Brutus poses the carefully calculated question as a way to
make the plebeians believe that that not only was the killing justified, but that if you disagreed
with the brutal killing, you were an enemy of Rome or not Roman. Brutus to beat his ideas into
the plebeians brains, not allowing them to think or speak out against him because of how he
phrased the question, forcing the crowd to hear, and eventually believe his words. Had Brutus not
phrased the question as he had done, the crowd could have realized that Caesar s death was just
senseless murder. Brutus uses appealing nationalism to charm the crowd into believing that it was
Rome, or Caesar, and that Brutus chose Rome. Brutus quickly yells to the crowd, If then that
friend demand why Brutus rose against Caesar, this is my answer: not that I loved Caesar less, but
that I loved Rome more. (III.ii.21 4).

And by offering the right products at the right prices we will help our customers live a more
sustainable life at home. IKEA has an important role to play in terms of taking responsibility for
people and the environment. This is why sustainability is one of four cornerstones in the new
Group strategy Growing IKEA together . We have a strong foundation to build on it is in our
culture to twist and turn established truths to find a new angle, a new idea, and to have the
courage to try to do things differently. IKEA is obsessed with making more from less, and we
hate to waste resources of any kind. This will continue to be our compass in years to come, and
we will stimulate new thinking and innovation in our sustainability work. Innovation is needed to
build sustainable solutions into the IKEA range and to tackle some of the global challenges
society faces. We need to identify and use more resource efficient materials and develop better
solutions for reusing and recycling IKEA products once our customers no longer want them. I
believe IKEA together with our customers, co workers, suppliers and the rest of society can make
a big difference. The 50 million low energy bulbs purchased at IKEA in the past three years
represent energy savings equivalent to the output of four and a half nuclear plants, and substantial
reductions of carbon dioxide emissions. This gives just a hint of the potential that lies in the word

Realism In Eliza Haywood
Abstract: Eliza Haywood, writing in the early eighteenth century English literary and cultural space
provided a new concept of womanhood and femininity through her amatory works. The amatory
novella, a novelistic subgenre, popularized by the women writers of the late seventeenth and early
eighteenth century England, foregrounded excessive emotion and passion in contrast to the
contemporary male writings which dealt with realism in both the theme and technique of
representation. Eliza Haywood not only provided a counter tradition to the mainstream male
tradition of writing realistic, matter of fact fictions through her sensational, erotic prose fictions but
raised a strong antipatriarchal voice through the female protagonists of her novellas. As a writer she
exploited the trauma and suffering that the female... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Greatly influenced by the French nouvellas and romances of the seventeenth century, Haywood s
amatory novellas foregrounded sentimentalism, eroticism, fantasy in contrast to the moral, realistic
and rational mode of the male tradition. Backscheider and Richetti observed that if social
observation and psychological depth are considered the markers of modern novel it was introduced
in the prose fictions, long before Richardson and Fielding legitimized it, through the writings of
the women amatory novelists such as Aphra Behn, Manley, Haywood, Aubin (Backscheider x).
Dr. Johnson s definition of novel as a small tale generally of love is best suited to the amatory
fictions which catered the public demand for fictions which would be shorter, less stylized,
immediately appealing to a wider range of taste, more practical and affordable (Backscheider xi).
Thus, the amatory novellas introduced the formula of modern mass market fiction in eighteenth
century

Matthew And Luke Compare And Contrast
The Synoptic Gospels paint a picture of the life, ministry and death of the Savior Jesus Christ.
Each book has several of the same accounts recorded, they differ in small ways but the summary is
the same. Then we come across details, important vivid details, in one book such as Matthew that
aren t found in Luke. Matthew and Luke both spend a significant amount of time with Jesusand
their accounts of this are invaluable. It s important to our faith and the History of Jesus to compare
these books and use them together to see the entire picture of the Jesus Christ. This paper will
explain a few of the differences and the significance of these differences in Matthew and Luke.
As we read the genealogies given by Matthew and Luke we immediately see some differences. The
genealogies are not a contradiction to one another; they are laid out differently because Luke and
Matthew are addressing different audiences. Matthew, writing to a primarily Jewish audience,
emphasizes that Jesus Christ is the seed of Abraham and the legal heir of David, the long awaited

Antitrust Law And The Antitrust Laws
ANTITRUST
Antitrust law in the United States is a collection of federal and state government laws regulating the
conduct and organization of business corporations with the intent to promote fair competition in an
open market economy for the benefit of the public. Congress passed the first antitrust statute, the
Sherman Antitrust Act, in 1890 in response to the public outrage toward big business. In 1914,
Congress passed two additional antitrust laws: the Federal Trade Commission Act and the Clayton
Act. (The Antitrust Laws. Web.)

controlling prices and supply in a market (46 Case W. Res. 1033). In terms of a professional sports

In 1961, Congress passed the Sports Broadcasting Act which allowed major professional sports to
pool the broadcast rights of its member clubs to negotiate television broadcast agreements that
normally would have violated federal antitrust laws. (21 Jeffery S. Moorad Sports Law Journal

attendance by negotiating with the networks as to when and where games would be televised.
Five years later, in 1966, Congress passed the Public Law 89 900 which had a major impact on
how the NFL would be examined under federal law. The statue contained an antitrust provision that
allowed for the merger of the National Football League (NFL) and American Football League
(AFL) without the threat of an antitrust challenge under the Clayton Antitrust Act or Federal Trade
Commissions Act. The act stated that: such laws shall not apply to a joint agreement by which

What nutritional problem is common in children in India? Neural tube defects are defects found in
the brain and spine that are present at birth. They usually appear during a woman s first month of
pregnancy. Neural tube defects are preventable with the use of a folic acid supplement before and
during pregnancy. Folic acidis a B vitamin that can prevent an infant from developing a neural tube
defect (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015). All of the vitamins in the vitamin B
classification have been of specific concentration lately. The vitamins in the vitamin B classification
are the following: vitamin B12, vitamin B6, zinc and folate. Deficiencies in vitamin B12 and folate
are thought to contribute to neural tube defects... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many times a woman does not know she is pregnant so she does not take a folic acid
supplementation. Women should be consuming .4mg of folic acid before and during pregnancy.
Women that have had a neural tube defect pregnancy should take 4.0 mg of folic acid a day to
prevent another neural tube defect pregnancy. Women should continue taking folic acid
supplements through the first trimester (Kumar, 2009).
A deficiency in folate can play a role in the development of neural tube defects in infants. The
authors found that low zinc levels and high copper levels may also play a role in neural tube
defects (Kumar, 2009). Folic acid has been fortified in enriched grains, such as, rice, cereal,
bread and pasta. Rice is one of India s staple foods. Rice fortification may help reduce the risk of
neural tube defects. Older children have been studied and fortified rice eliminated the
micronutrient deficiency in folate. (Thankachan, et al., 2012) The hope is that women will eat
enough of these foods to prevent a folate deficiency (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
2015). An earlier report found that 4.1 infants with neural tube defects out of 1,000 total births
reported having neural tube defects in India. The authors found that different states of India report
different numbers of neural tube defects. This is due to availability for food, poverty in certain
areas and availability of folic acid supplements. Each state had a different

Pros And Cons Of Artificial Turf Fields
Artificial turf fields are becoming very popular throughout the world with over 5,500 fields in
North America . Turf fields are mostly being used for soccer and many of the major clubs around
the world are using turf fields. Are these fields that are becoming so popular throughout the world
good for the environment, our health, and the community?
As with any major issue there is always a debate with two sides. In San Francisco the divide is
between the soccer players and the environmentalists. The soccer players want more artificial turf
because it gives them a reliable safe and easy way to participate in the sport they love. The
environmentalists say that artificial turf fields are harmful to the community because they leach
toxic chemicals into the air and the water. Also, the use of turf in children s playgrounds exposes
kids to chemicals that are very harmful at a young age. The voters decided to install artificial turf
fields. The response was overwhelmingly positive from the soccer players but from the people
who wanted the best for the environment were disappointment. There was a great divide caused by
the debate around artificial fields. It is never good for a community to ... Show more content on

The plastic may not be so good for the environment but the infill is what the manufacturers call
crumb rubber, rubber made out of recycled car tires. This is a great use for something that would
otherwise sit in a landfill if it were not repurposed for artificial turf fields. Also, artificial turf
fields are good for the environment because the do not have to be watered and they require less
maintenance. Turf doesn t use pesticides so those harmful chemicals don t have an affect on health
and the water table. Turf is more durable and therefore needs less maintenance. These are some
great aspects of artificial turf but there are also many bad

Melanoma Research Papers
Melanoma
Skin Cancer is the abnormal division of skin cells which cause tumors in the body. There are 3
types of Skin Cancer: Melanoma, Basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma (Web Md,
year). Skin cancer is caused by the exposure of ultraviolet radiation and UV like factors (Skin
Cancer Foundation, 2015). This paper focuses on a specific type of skin cancer called Melanoma.
Melanoma is a fatal kind of skin cancer caused by ultraviolet radiation and sunshine (Skin Cancer
Foundation, 2015). It creates melanin, and increases the production of skin cells which results in
tumors (American Cancer Society, 2015). Melanoma emerges from the skin cells and the basal

Early detection of melanoma can save many lives and lead to minor cancers (Skin Cancer
Foundation, 2009). Patient skin self examination (SSE), physician directed total body skin
exams (TBSE), and patient education are the best methods to early detection (Skin Cancer
Foundation, 2009). These ways and methods can also help detect cutaneous melanoma, basal
cell cancer, and squamous cell skin cancer (Skin Cancer Foundation, 2009). In order to early
detect yourself or conduct any screenings, you must know the signs and symptoms of
Melanoma. The most common signs are the different kinds of moles: a growing, an unsually
looking mole on the skin, and a non uniform mole which has an odd shape and colors (American
Academy of Dermatology, 2015). Another important rule to always follow when looking for
signs for this skin cancer is the ABCDE rule (American Cancer Society, 2015). A is for Symmetry,
this means that one half of a mole or birthmark does not match the other. B is for Border, the edges
are irregular, ragged, or blurred. C is for Color: the color is not always same; it may be different
shades of colors. D is for Diameter: the spot is larger than 6 millimeters across. Finally E is for

Covert Operations Disadvantages
What are the advantages and risks of covert action? Do you think that present legal oversight and
safeguards are sufficient to prevent operational failure?
Hello Dr. Colucci Classmates ,
Unlike overt operations , covert operations thrive under heavy lid of secrecy which becomes a
requirement for success . As such , the concept of having plausible deniability defines the lines of
success or failure. Indeed, the objectives of covert operations are spelled out in the definition
presented by Dr. Jennifer Kibbe who describes it as an activity designed to influence political,
economic, or military conditions abroad, where it is intended that the role of the United States

African American Men
African American men have been known for being more violent and less successful than other
race. For instance, African American men who are involved in a gang bang, or that drop out of
school are most likely classified as people who are not serious, and do not have a bright future
ahead of them. I chose these two portraits because one of them, portrait how society sees African
American men as forceful and destructive, and the other portrait shows a successful African
American man that society doesn t pay much attention to. LL Cool J looks very intelligent in his
portrait compared to Ice T who displays himself as a dangerous person. LL Cool J and Ice T are
both successful African American actors and Rappers well known in the entertainment industry. LL
Cool J and Ice T s Body language, clothing, and setting portray them as men who demand respect
from people to preserve their manhood.
Kehinde Wiley is known for painting high profile tough African American men to look very
powerful and influence. The two portraits of LL Cool J and Ice T portrayed by Kehinde Wiley in
2005, compare and contrast as both men expose their strength of manhood through their body
language. Both men look very serious and unpleasant in their portraits. LL Cool J is sitting very

Developing a Counseling Plan This paper focuses on a case study of famous actor/musician, Mark
Wahlberg. Mark Wahlberg began a life of juvenile crime at age ten that culminated in his attempted
murder arrest, and subsequent prison sentence, at the age of 16. The paper will explore his early
life and family issues leading to his delinquent behavior as well as counseling theories and
interventions that would be successful in treating a youth with similar difficulties.

This person functions as a scapegoat for the family and in turn is often blamed for the unhappiness
in the family. As tension and anxiety within the family increases, the behaviors displayed by the
scapegoat will also increase (Cook, 2001).
The second issue to address for Mark would be his birth order. He was the youngest in a family
of nine children. This made him very impressionable to the behaviors of older siblings who
would have taken on the care taker role. Mark stated in an interview, there was always a voice in
my head telling me I was going to end up in jail. Three of my brothers had done time. My sister
went to prison so many times I lost count (Wilde, 2009). It was these influences that lead him to try
drugs for the first time at the age of 10.
Interventions that may be successful in Mark s case would include those found in the Functional
Family Therapy model or FFT. FFT may include diversion, probation, alternatives to incarceration,
and/or reentry programs for youth returning to the community following release from a high
security, severely restrictive institutional setting (Sexton amp; Alexander, 2000). The reentry
programs, in particular, could be very beneficial to Mark after returning from an adult prison.

Aging Is Defined As The Process Of Aging
Aging John Pickett Mind, Brain, and Intelligence Aging Aging is defined as the process of
growing old but there are many different things that take place during the process of ageing that
help define what aging truly is. We will explore the steps and stages of aging from birth to the
end of life. Erikson s stages of adult development gives a timeline of physical and mental aging
in which the ability to resolve crisis plays a huge role in successful development over the life
span. The trust vs. mistrust stage takes place from birth to 12 months when an infant learns to
trust the person who is caring for them. If rejection takes place during this stage the infant may
believe that all people are not unreliable and have problems with trusting throughout the stages
that follow the trust and mistrust stage. However if the infant feels secure the parent or caregiver
has laid a great foundation that carries over throughout the stages that follow the trust and mistrust
stage. As we age this very foundation may become key in how we handle relationships
throughout the duration of our lives. (Hill, 2005, p. 25) The autonomy vs. shame and doubt stage
is from about 2 to 3 years old when we feel the need to become independent through simple tasks
such as dressing and feeding ourselves. Many first time parents delay the need for independence
for their children at this age for fear of them hurting themselves and the child may develop self
doubt. Self doubt

Sub optimization is an expression that describes a process, procedure or system results in less than
optimal results. (businessdictionary.com, n.d.) It also applies to the manner of focusing on one
component, making alterations to better that component and disregarding how this may affect the
other components. Sub optimization can be thwarted in any organization however, it takes

Why is designing an effective organizational structure vital to the success of an organization?
Businesses require structure to be a successful money making venture. Designing an organization
structure helps the leadership identify what caliper and type of employees that needs to be hired
into the organization. With this in mind it is also important that employee responsibilities are
clearly defined. Each member needs to have a job description and each job is a needed and has its
own slot on the company s organizational chart.
Open communication and ease of flow is essential to a business s success. The organizational
structure should be designed to ensure that interdepartmental and employees have easy and open
lines of communication that are built into the structure. For instance the financial department may
report to both the CFO and President of Sales, because both of these leaders depend on information
and reports provided by the finance team.

A butterfly emerges from its chrysalis in an entirely new form, now a lightweight and beautifully

Teaching Equivalence in Fractions with Unlike Denominators...
Once students get to the fourth grade, learning equivalence in fractions with unlike denominators is
something that they can look forward to...or not look forward to. It can be a very tough lesson and
something that is hard for the children to understand. They need to have a simple understanding of
fractions already. They need to know what they are and how they add up together. Meaning that
they need to understand that fractions are a part of a whole...a fractionof something, and that if the
fractions are equal they can add up to create a whole. The easiest way to describe this and review
it is with a circle representing a pie. Each slice comes from the pie and all put together its a whole.

Next the teacher would show them an unequivalent fraction by having them compare 1/2 and 1/3
in their circle. They look close...but they arent! From here a worksheet would be given out with
some fractions for the children to identify their equal. They would work in partner groups and use
their pie pieces to research and experiment and find the answer. This will give the students a good
chance to work together and investigate with hands on pieces and think through the questions.
All of the previous work the students have done with the manipulatives and the visual aids should
have given them a good foundation for writing fractions and seeing how they are represented with
numbers and not just physical parts or fractions of a whole. There is a pattern between equivalent
fractions that is based on counting by multiples. It can also be explained on knowing and using
basic multiplication tables. To find an equivalent fraction is basic multiplication of both the
numerator and the denominator by a number that is more than one or zero. Two is a very good base,
low number to start with. Next is to explain to the students that with equivalent fraction problems
you are looking for that missing number, that missing part that makes it complete.

The Nature Of Modern Corporations
In 1868, the 14th amendment to the constitution officially declared those born on U.S soil citizens
of the state, and forbade the states to deny any person the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of
happiness (Berger). This amendment, originally created for newly freed African American slaves
as a means to declare them as equal individuals under the law, has somehow been manipulated as a
tool for large corporations (The Corporation). The Corporation, a 2003 documentary written by
law professor Joel Bakan, examines the pathological character of modern corporations. The
documentary analyzes the behaviors and economic influence of many common North American
corporations such as Nike Inc., Coca Cola Co. and Sears Co and the increasing awareness of the
harm many of these corporations are causing both locally and nationally. The Corporation pleads it
s viewers to recognize lack of social responsibility, and hold modern corporation s accountable for
their actions (Bansal).
Noam Chomsky describes the corporation as designed by law to be only concerned for their
stock holder as opposed to the community it serves (The Corporation). As corporations are legally
considered individuals , it raises the question; What kind of person are they? The Corporation
suggests that corporations can be analyzed as individuals similarly to how a psychiatrist would
analyze and form a diagnosis for his/her patient. Studying specific case histories certain corporations

The arrangement for the Champaign presents powerful and good elements for the inherent

by George Orwell pigs, that represents leaders, they have many different ways of exerting power
and keeping the other farm animals faithful and working. Language can be used to exert power
through many different ways of showing how bad something is or by simply raising pitch. The
most effective way that language is used for power is by scaring people that something horrible
will happen if they don t listen to their leader making them fear the cause or person. Squealer, a

The most repeated and said word is comrade (28) it means friend or mate but first animal to say
this was Old Major and at this point all the animals were ready to revolt. All the animals were so
inspired and moved and they most likely can t remember Old Major s whole speech but anyone
who says comrade will bring up the other animals memory of how moved they were. Later on
Napoleon became a bossy leader and then he made Minimus write a poem about Napoleon
named Comrade Napoleon (100) to show his wisdom, and goodness of his heart. In Old Major s
speech he keeps saying how bad humans are which in comparison makes the animals look better
he said There, comrades, is the answer to all our problems. It is summed up in a single word
Man. (28) Throughout his speech he keeps going back to how bad humans are and that it would

Critique of Stanley Milgram’s “Behavioral Study of Obedience” A Critique of Stanley Milgram s Behavioral Study of Obedience Stanley MIlgram is a Yale University social psychologist who wrote Behavioral Study of Obedience , an article which granted him many awards and is now considered a landmark. In this piece, he evaluates the extent to which a participant is willing to conform to an authority figure who commands him to execute acts that conflict with his moral beliefs. Milgram discovers that the majority of participants do obey to authority. In this research, the subjects are misled because they are part of a learning experience that is not about what they are told. This experiment was appropriate despite this. Before Milgram s findings, the fact that people were inclined to obey to authority figures was already realized. He just confirmed this belief. Milgram followed effective steps by using precise procedures. He made sure that the experiment reflected features of an actual situation in which a person would obey to an authority figure: offering compensation (monetary reward in this experiment), being under pressure (Prods 1 to 4 in this case), and mentioning that the person who obeys can withdraw. These features can also be seen in a situation where a soldier is commanded to fire, for instance. A soldier will get a monetary compensation, is under pressure to obey because he chose to be part of the military, and he knows that he can resign at any time. Milgram created an experiment so precise and detailed that more than enough evidence was demonstrated. In this experiment, subjects are explained that this is a learning experiment to ... study the effects of punishment on memory (4). Yet, the real intention here is to measure the participants compliance towards the experimenter. This controversy is unethical as subjects are volunteering for a cause that does not exist. They are misled since they are not exposed to the real purpose of this study. Nevertheless, this experiment was appropriate. Throughout the process, participants are exposed to various indications about the intensity of the experiment. If the question about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Influence of Advertising What is the Influence of Advertising on our children today? The influence of advertising on our lives, for both our children and us, for many years the influence of advertising has changed. Some people may remember when the advertisements of toy companies were directed at the adults instead of the kids, hoping that the adults might buy the products. Today s advertisements have changed. Advertisements are more pervasive, sophisticated, and are now aimed directly at getting kids addicted to products at a very young age (Marconi, JM.). This goes to show that advertisers have realized that it is better to go right for the person who the product is for and not for the person that will be buying it for someone else. So how has advertising... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whether it s the Porsche ad that shows the grade school boy recognizing the car as the King of cool and success, or the Chevy that wins the NASCAR championship; these brands are sealed into a child s mind at a young age. The dolls that little girls play with may promote brand name make up, board games may make use of a specific credit card, and a hot wheels racetrack often includes a specific brand of car (Hall and Kohrs 2006). All of these promotions are paid for by manufacturers and serve a very specific purpose. This message often has the effect of making kids consumers of such products at an increasingly early age and assures that they develop their brand loyalty earlier. Is Advertising Really That Influential? There are a number of studies that support the idea that advertising is particularly effective with children due to the fact they don t have the same critical thinking/judgment as an adult. The brief from the APA highlights this thought and discusses how such advertising can lead children to unhealthy food and lifestyle choices (American psychological association 2009). Advertising has also been shown to greatly influence a child s body image and sexual development. This young media site covers many of the related issues. Children today often feel the influence of advertising s subtle messages more strongly that those provided by schools and even parents. Certainly many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Oral Communication Section A A1) Communication is sharing our feelings, experiences, thoughts, suggestions, feedback and etc. So usually before communicating with another person, we tend to think of how to speak, what to speak, when to speak and which channel I should adopt to before communicating. The sender is the person who sends the message. Let s take an example for this case; two people are communicating between each other. The sender is Amy and the receiver is Pond. Amy will send the message, which is the information she would like for Pond to know. She will then encode her message, which is transforming her message which can be transformed into written words or verbal communication. Then, Amy must choose a channel of communication which is also known as the manner in which the message ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everything has its advantages and disadvantages. • 9. Julius Caesar Persuasive Analysis In Julius Caesar, Shakespeare s Brutus persuades the plebeians that killing Caesar was justified, through constant interrogation appealing nationalism.. Brutus s constant interrogation creates the connection that killing Caesar was justified and good to Rome. Brutus quickly yells the question Had you rather Caesar were living, and die all slaves, than that Caesar were dead, to live all freemen? (III.ii.24 6). Brutus phrases the question this way he does in order to create an association in the plebeians minds that if Caesar were alive, they would all be slaves. This creates a lose lose situation for the plebeians, and deviates attention from the real problem. The constant rhetorical questions allow Brutus to manipulate the crowd without outright stating it. It guides the plebeians to the same conclusion, but allows them to believe they came up with the conclusion themselves. Many plebeians would not have heeded his word if Brutus did not present the question the way he did, and remained focused on the fact that Brutus killed Caesar. Brutus continues to interrogate the crowd, Who is here so base that would be a bondman? If any, speak for him have I offended. Who is here so rude that would not be a Roman? If any, speak for him have I offended. Who is here so vile that will not love his country? If any, speak for him have I offended. (III.ii.30 6). Brutus poses the carefully calculated question as a way to make the plebeians believe that that not only was the killing justified, but that if you disagreed with the brutal killing, you were an enemy of Rome or not Roman. Brutus to beat his ideas into the plebeians brains, not allowing them to think or speak out against him because of how he phrased the question, forcing the crowd to hear, and eventually believe his words. Had Brutus not phrased the question as he had done, the crowd could have realized that Caesar s death was just senseless murder. Brutus uses appealing nationalism to charm the crowd into believing that it was Rome, or Caesar, and that Brutus chose Rome. Brutus quickly yells to the crowd, If then that friend demand why Brutus rose against Caesar, this is my answer: not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more. (III.ii.21 4). ... • 17. Realism In Eliza Haywood Abstract: Eliza Haywood, writing in the early eighteenth century English literary and cultural space provided a new concept of womanhood and femininity through her amatory works. The amatory novella, a novelistic subgenre, popularized by the women writers of the late seventeenth and early eighteenth century England, foregrounded excessive emotion and passion in contrast to the contemporary male writings which dealt with realism in both the theme and technique of representation. Eliza Haywood not only provided a counter tradition to the mainstream male tradition of writing realistic, matter of fact fictions through her sensational, erotic prose fictions but raised a strong antipatriarchal voice through the female protagonists of her novellas. As a writer she exploited the trauma and suffering that the female... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Greatly influenced by the French nouvellas and romances of the seventeenth century, Haywood s amatory novellas foregrounded sentimentalism, eroticism, fantasy in contrast to the moral, realistic and rational mode of the male tradition. Dr. Johnson s definition of novel as a small tale generally of love is best suited to the amatory fictions which catered the public demand for fictions which would be shorter, less stylized, immediately appealing to a wider range of taste, more practical and affordable (Backscheider xi). As we read the genealogies given by Matthew and Luke we immediately see some differences. Women should continue taking folic acid supplements through the first trimester (Kumar, 2009). A deficiency in folate can play a role in the development of neural tube defects in infants. The authors found that low zinc levels and high copper levels may also play a role in neural tube defects (Kumar, 2009). Folic acid has been fortified in enriched grains, such as, rice, cereal, bread and pasta. Rice is one of India s staple foods. Rice fortification may help reduce the risk of neural tube defects. Aging Is Defined As The Process Of Aging Aging John Pickett Mind, Brain, and Intelligence Aging Aging is defined as the process of growing old but there are many different things that take place during the process of ageing that help define what aging truly is. We will explore the steps and stages of aging from birth to the end of life. Erikson s stages of adult development gives a timeline of physical and mental aging in which the ability to resolve crisis plays a huge role in successful development over the life span. The trust vs. mistrust stage takes place from birth to 12 months when an infant learns to trust the person who is caring for them. If rejection takes place during this stage the infant may believe that all people are not unreliable and have problems with trusting throughout the stages that follow the trust and mistrust stage. However if the infant feels secure the parent or caregiver has laid a great foundation that carries over throughout the stages that follow the trust and mistrust stage. As we age this very foundation may become key in how we handle relationships throughout the duration of our lives. (Hill, 2005, p. 25) The autonomy vs. shame and doubt stage is from about 2 to 3 years old when we feel the need to become independent through simple tasks such as dressing and feeding ourselves. Many first time parents delay the need for independence for their children at this age for fear of them hurting themselves and the child may develop self doubt. Self doubt ... The Nature Of Modern Corporations In 1868, the 14th amendment to the constitution officially declared those born on U.S soil citizens of the state, and forbade the states to deny any person the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness (Berger). This amendment, originally created for newly freed African American slaves as a means to declare them as equal individuals under the law, has somehow been manipulated as a tool for large corporations (The Corporation). The Corporation, a 2003 documentary written by law professor Joel Bakan, examines the pathological character of modern corporations. The documentary analyzes the behaviors and economic influence of many common North American corporations such as Nike Inc., Coca Cola Co. and Sears Co and the increasing awareness of the harm many of these corporations are causing both locally and nationally. The Corporation pleads it s viewers to recognize lack of social responsibility, and hold modern corporation s accountable for their actions (Bansal). Noam Chomsky describes the corporation as designed by law to be only concerned for their stock holder as opposed to the community it serves (The Corporation). As corporations are legally considered individuals , it raises the question; What kind of person are they?
