Drug Addiction, Death, And Burroughs Lifestyle
Drug addiction, death, and Burroughs lifestyle are perfect examples of voices from the fringe. William
S. Burroughs was born on February 5, 1914, in St. Louis, Missouri. Burroughs died in Lawrence,
Kansas, on August 2,1997. He supposedly died from complications of a heart attack, which he
incurred the day before. He was buried in the family plot in Bellefontaine Cemetery, which is located
in St. Louis Missouri. His gravestone read his full name and the engravement American Writer on it.
The grave was placed to the right side of William Seward Burroughs I (1857 1898), which was
Burroughs grandfather. (Burroughs, Bio) Burroughs was the younger of two sons born to the parents
Laura Hammon Lee and Mortimer Perry Burroughs. The Burroughs family was recognized as wealthy
and of English descent in St. Louis, Missouri. Burroughs grandfather was known for founding the
Burroughs Adding Machine Company. It later became known as the Burroughs Corporation.
Burroughs mother was known as the daughter of a minister. The ministers family was apparently
related to the famous and remarkable Robert E. Lee. Ivy Lee, Burroughs maternal uncle was an
advertising innovator. He later got employment being a publicist for the famous Rockefellers.
Burroughs father ran an antique and gift shop, known as Cobblestone Gardens with their first location
being in St. Louis, Missouri and then later on in Palm Beach, Florida. Burroughs lived on Pershing
Ave. in St, as a child in St. Louis s Central West End.

Do You Agree with Conflict Theory
Have you ever noticed a divide in society between the privileged and who s who are not? Such as
someone who is rich versus someone who is poor. This is what we call Conflict theory. How conflict
theory is applied to our everyday lives can be seen through many different ideas brought about by
these conflict theorists. Whether or not I agree or disagree with this theory, will be determined by the
factors and situations that conflict theory has to show. Karl Marx, a philosopher, journalist, and
revolutionary socialist, is considered the father of conflict theory. He pointed out the continuous
competition for power between different classes in society and how the powerful groups exploit those
with less. He suggested social order is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
their influence in the making of social decisions, and their ability to impose values, will also be greater
than those of the lower classes (McShane, Williams 129 130). If you are on the bottom and you don t
like something that is going on with people in power, you could have a revolution or stage a riot.
Anytime you are dealing with the situation where people are fighting over the use of land or who s
going to have what status or privilege, we are then seeing things through the eyes of a conflict theorist.
Money is a big part of this. Being a member of an aristocracy or a powerful group is part of this. So in
addition, we also see minority groups in conflict with the dominant groups. We see exploitation and
domestic violence between men and women and sometimes children. There are numerous perspectives
of conflict theory on the law. Most of the conflict theorists talk about the law as a way of maintain
inequality. That the law is there to advance the interests of people in power, usually people with
money. There are also conflict theories that argue about morality or moral entrepreneurs, people that
use the criminal law to impose their morality on other people despite the fact that it is not widely held
belief and an example would be things like prostitution or other vices that are widely utilized by large
segments of the population, but there are smaller segments

Autotomy Essay
Abstract Autotomy occurs in many animals, but most research focuses on lizards as the trait occurs in
the majority of all lizard families (Downes Shine, 2001). The most common form of autotomy in this
order is caudal autotomy, relating to the tail. What has possibly made this adaptation so advantageous
is the ability of many lizard species to regenerate their tail after autotomy. Being able to grow a
secondary tail that can perform the same antipredator function is highly beneficial, and other tail
functions such as post autotomous thrashing and bright coloration enhance autotomous behavior
greatly. The loss of a limb may appear catastrophic for some organisms, but there are many species
that will do it voluntarily when faced with a threat. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In some species, post autotomous tails retain the ability to flex, diverting the attention of the predator
away from the escaping lizard to the rapidly undulating tail. Acrobatic flips are occasionally
performed by the severed tails of some species, and many others enjoy great dexterity even when not
attached to their parent body (Hingham Russell, 2009). The movement of the autotomized tail is
independent of brain activity and is instead governed by a network of neurons inside the spine. While
predictable central pattern generators are not uncommon in nature, lizard species like the Tokay gecko
(gekko gecko) have incorporated erratic and complicated movements into their autotomized tail
displays (Hingham Russell, 2009). This unpredictable behavior is meant to appear novel and thus
noticeable to the predator, preventing it from pursuing the rest of the gecko body. The mechanism of
tail loss involves the coordination of many tissues in the tail to prevent serious damage or danger to
the lizard. Vertebrae are specialized in intravertebral autotomous lizards, containing a fracture through
the side of vertebra near the disconnection site (Gilbert et al 2013). Most autotomous lizards contain
fractured vertebrae, but a few others autotomize intervertebrally, separating between

Baba Joon Essay
Baba Joon is the newly released movie by writer/director Yuval Delshad. With a film career that grew
from the documentary world, this is his first feature. Never one to shy from reality, Delshad turned to
a subject that spoke to his heart; the father/son relationship. To create authenticity, the movie is filmed
in the dusty village where Delshad grew up and the actors speak a blend of Hebrew and Farsi, just like
it was in the 1980 s of his childhood. Delshad loves the fact that life imitates art, My baby, Yitamar,
was conceived during the start of photography and he is already trying to crawl! Baba Joon centers on
the conflict of a traditional father, Yitzhak, whose life has been hard and demanding, and his gently
defiant son who, as a pre teen, is refusing to learn how to farm turkeys. The mother understands that
their son, Moti, has no passion for the family livelihood but Yitzhak takes the decision badly. And thus
ends the hopes of all good dreams; the father s desire to pass on his father s business is doomed by his
son s utter disinterest. Here is a kid who has no love of turkeys, no desire to learn the trade and no
appreciation of the art of poultry manufacture. More painful is the perceived lack of respect that the
father senses in Moti s lack of interest. This is the farm that his father built with sweat labor and was

How does Baba Joon play against this reality? Delshad sees the similarity of his movie with the
current crisis. The Palestinian Israel conflict is also a culture of difference and the culture is so

a difficult time seeing the way they response to events. We must understand the culture before it can

The Debate Of Banning The Death Penalty
Public Executions The United States has been going through the debate of banning the death penalty
for decades; however, it continues to remain at a standstill as crime rates continue to stay the same
throughout the country. The people for continuing the death penalty happens to see their group split in
to two groups. One for the private executions and the other for public. Public executions can do many
things like deter crimes from happening, giving the victims closure, and finding the right kind of
execution method that is inexpensive and once used throughout history. The ability to deter crimes
with the method of public execution is one we should not waste. It leaves everyone with the
knowledge that there is nothing to keep them from being the next one on the chopping block so to
speak, especially if they have committed such a crime to deserve the sentence. It takes removes this
mindset that the public has come to grasp that everything does not have a consequence for the actions
they take. The scare factor works brilliantly in this regard, holding the public to a line they know not
to cross. With the line drawn, the number of convicts in the prison system would decrease. This will
also free up taxpayers money for other things like education, medical, security, and paying off the
national debt. Secondly, this would bring closer to the families, as well as, friends and acquaintances
of the victim. This type of execution would give everyone the benefit of seeing

African Slave Trade 1492 Essay
Between the years 1492 through 1750 a new world was discovered that was before unknown to the
eastern hemisphere. New contacts were formed in the Atlantic world due to the discovery and
colonization of the Americas and later African slave trade, which were both very major events of this
time. These interactions mainly affected Western Europe, Africa, and the Americas, whose economies
were broadened and social structures further developed and altered as a result. In 1492, spice trade led
to Europe s exploration and discovery of the Americas, their advanced weaponry allowed for the
colonization of the Americas and also slave trade in Africa. Europe was on the verge of an economic
explosion before this time and the Columbian Exchange and Triangular Exchange between Europe,
Africa, and the Americas was the push they needed for their economy to boom. The Europeans began
to grow wealthy at the expense of Africa and the Americas. The growing economy started to create a
middle class and the Europeans began to see themselves as superior, socially and economically,

Europeans began to export slaves out of Africa and eventually into the Americas through Triangular
trade. This put Africa on the map economically, but this economy began to disrupt their society.
Different tribes began to start wars over obtaining slaves to trade for European goods. Eventually
slave trade also led to a decrease in population in Africa, which caused a loss in potential for growth
and as a result weakened African civilizations. Many regions were left dominated by females because
of the demand for male slaves. This disrupted the previous traditional African family structure. The
Europeans also took it upon themselves to impose Christianity on the Africans, who formerly

In New Zealand, as in Australia, it was the Labour Party that initially adopted New Right economic
policies, while also pursuing social liberal stances such as decriminalisation of male homosexuality,
pay equity for women and adopting a nuclear free policy. This meant temporary realignment within
New Zealand politics, as New Right middle class voters voted Labour at the New Zealand general
election, 1987 in approval of its economic policies. At first, Labour corporatised many former
government departments and state assets, then emulated the Conservative Thatcher administration and
privatised them altogether during Labour s second term of office. However, recession and privatisation
together led to increasing strains within the Labour Party, which led to schism, and the exit of Jim
Anderton and his NewLabour Party, which later formed part of the Alliance Party with the Greens and
other opponents of New Right economics.

The Unique Work of Roy DeCarava
Roy DeCarava was born in 1919 in New York and became a famous photographer whose subjects
focused mostly on urban African Americans and their daily lives. Harlem was where he took most of
his photographs. He originally started out painting and first began using a camera to document images
he would later use in his painting, but over time began to rely on the camera more until that became
his medium for art. Throughout his life, DeCavara was forced to deal with racial discrimination,
which in part led him to begin photographing African Americans and their experiences in 20th century
America. In the 1940 s DeCarava began shooting a series photographs in Harlem, which later were
included in his first solo show in 1950. In 1952, Decarava was awarded Guggenheim Fellowship, and
was the first African American photographer to receive this grant. In 1955 he founded A Photographer
s Gallery, which was implemented to gain public interest in photography, and eventually closed due to
poor sales. He also started a workshop in 1963 specifically for African American photographers.
Though he was an acclaimed artist his career as a freelance photographer was never completely stable
so he looked for other jobs throughout his life. He became a contract photographer for Sports
Illustrated, became an associate professor at Hunter College and eventually became a full time and
distinguished professor there. In 1996, the Museum of Modern Art a retrospective of DeCavara s

Variable Pay
Abstract
The main two reasons for the companies to implement variable pay plan are: motivating employees
and reducing cost. In this paper we try to point out the challenges the organizations might face when
they apply variable pay system by reviewing related literature. We find that it is difficult for the
company to have a reliable measure for the variable pay system. In addition, the focus of the variable
pay plan should be on motivating employees or cutting cost and how to strike a balance between these
two is also an essential issue. Finally we conclude that we always have to assess the circumstances of
the organization before applying the plan.

Besides, Jessica and Kathy (2004) also stated that 63% of those companies which have variable
compensation plan believe that the benefits of the plan outweigh the costs. What is more, 57% of
those companies had unexpected favorable results such as increased productivity.
Challenges of using variable pay However, it is not easy for an organization to apply a variable pay
program. Like John Traci (2004) stated in their article that if the companies do not manage variable
pay plan effectively, the outcome could be less than stellar. There are several concerns for the
organization to think about. Thomas (2003) suggested that first concern is about the performance
measures. It is difficult
Variable Pay Plan 6 for many jobs to measure performance in an objective and reliable manner.
Second issue is the general rejection to variable plans because of having previous bad experiences.
This is also mentioned by Paul (2007) that variable pay received bad reputation because of many
companies bad experiences when they failed to have supporting information or they had other
organizational problems which need to be emphasized. The third issue is that the employees may feel
the performance measures are not in control or their suggestions are not taken by the organization. The
last one concern is that employees will fix on earning their variable pay and they will not make
changes or take actions that are not related to the goals of

Aeromedical Evacuations In The Korean War
In every war or conflict, both sides of the engagement experience causalities. One of the basic skills of
any Soldier is to render aid to their injured battle buddies and to never leave a fallen comrade. Even
with the medical equipment Soldiers or medics carry with them sometimes the aid they can render is
not suitable for the types of injures the casualty has sustained. The Army needed a way to quickly get
their wounded from the battlefield or field treatment facility to an established medical treatment
facility so that they can receive treatment more appropriate for their injuries. Thus enters the medical
evacuation, more specifically aeromedical evacuation. The feasibility and full advantages of
aeromedical evacuation by high performance, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Minister s Black Veil
In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Minister s Black Veil mystery plays a huge role when it comes to plot,
and character development. At the end of this story the minister who is wearing the veil rhetorically
asks, What but the mystery which it obscurely typifies has made this piece of crape so awful?
(Hawthorne 1044). Hawthorne has built up this character so carefully and intensely to this point, to
quite directly state that this veil on his face represents mystery. The minister also begs the question of,
what else does it represent? Asking his congregation, who also persecuted him, to look deep in
themselves and figure out the real reason for his apparel. The minister blatantly reveals that his veil
typifies mystery in a sense where his congregation cannot keep themselves together, unless they know
the absolute truth. Hawthorne uses this veil as a direct representation of mystery and self control, but
he also uses it as a symbol of a divine controller, tying in spirituality and religion. Towards the
beginning of the story the minister reveals himself looking different, as he wore an obvious black veil
over his face. His audience hated the idea of his new look as they muttered amongst themselves, I don
t like it, and Our parson has gone mad! (Hawthorne 1038). These two particular quotes obviously
reveal the initial distaste for the veil, but it also shows that the congregation could not even control
themselves, as they wondered why he wore this disgusting cover. The

Drugs And Drugs
A. Introduction About $800 Billion worth of drugs are sold every year. The drug industry has affected
agriculture in various ways. While some may think that drug industry has done good for the
agriculture industry. It has also had repercussions. Drugs not only affect our ecosystem, it also affects
us human beings, animals, and plants. It s similar to a cycle, we start off with the ecosystem, which
then leads to plants, then the animals, to human beings. If the drug industry is affecting the whole
agriculture industry it s affecting the whole world. Drugs affect our ecosystem by the pollution, drugs
affect plant growth, drugs affect animals development, and all of these affect what we has humans eat
on a daily basis. If something goes wrong because of the drugs that the farmers are using, at the end it
will affect humans beings that have either consumed or inhaled; and it will be corrupting the whole
agriculture industry which could ve been prevented.

The Importance Of A Hero
¨Hard times don t create heroes. It is during the hard times when the hero within us is revealed¨ Bob
Riley. In other words, you are not born a hero, doing what you think is right in bad situations is what
makes you a hero and makes a hero shed their true skin. Although most people think that a hero has a
cape and tights, that is not always true because a hero can be anywhere or anyone. What really makes
someone a hero is doing what s right to insure the safety and well being of others.
What is a hero? As stated in Kendra Cherry´s article, A hero is someone who persists even in moments

Nowadays, when anyone visits Dubai it is like visiting an international country with many
nationalities but without natives. Because Dubai where built by others which have been taking all over
the country now. Indeed, the percentage of natives in Dubai now is less than one percent which is
horribly so bad. Although, the late moving of the government to restore the heritage of Dubai the
culture and traditions of Dubai has been vanished already and reached Point of no return. And this has
too many negative things on the next generation. Also regarding the disappearing of the traditions and
the original culture Dubai heritage has been abandoned and natives now are forced to adapt with the
residents culture because the residents are the majority now. Also, all the natives are moving out from
their own town because Dubai has become a center for prostitution even though, the prostitution are
against the low in Dubai but, the whole government have to subject to the current situation because
Dubai now is no longer owned by United Arab of Emiratis, it is owned by rich people and they taking
control over it. According to Heydarian, R. J. (2014), the capitalism in some Arab countries caused the
Arab Spring which was a huge disaster to the governments and that because the Arabs start awake and

Don John s Tragic Flaws Essay
Anyone with access to William Shakespeare s books knows that his plays are littered with characters
withholding tragic flaws; especially in Much Ado Ado About Nothing, where these personality
dysfunctions are most relevant. Despite the downfall a character may experience withholding a tragic
flaw in this book, these traits are most significant when it comes to developing the story; which is
especially the case with Don John, a major character who s tragic flaw paves way for the entire arc of
Much Ado About Nothing. As a result, Don John s tragic thirst for revenge and mischief eventually
leads to his own slow downfall in ways that are more impactful than thought of.

English essay (literary conflicts) Essay question: What is the main literary conflict found in The
Catcher in the Rye ? Introduction: J.D Salinger s bestselling novel The Catcher in the Rye depicts a
troubled teenage boy who conflicts with the society of the 1950s. Holden Caufield s cynical way of
narrating the story with his constant criticism about other people and the ugliness of the world,
introduces the readers to a judgemental and critical protagonist. The Catcher in the Rye was based on

Holden defies society by not applying himself at school and getting kicked out of different schools
numerous times. Apart from getting expelled from Pencey, while he is there Holden does not establish
any close relationships with his classmates, or any of the other boys at Pencey. He always finds
something bad to say about the people he has connections with, even his roommate Stradlater: He was
at least a pretty friendly guy, Stradlater. It was partly a phony kind of friendly. (ch.3 pg.25) Holden
does not have any close friendships with any of his peers, even though he occasionally has fun with
Stradlater and is nice to Ackley because he feels obliged to, in the end he always has bad things to say
about the phony people there. Holden struggles to find a place in society, and struggles to make
friends with the critical attitude he has against society in general, and the current world. Holden
struggles to fit into society through his relationships with people, similar to his relationships at Pencey,
Holden does not get along easily with people because of his opinions conflicting with society s.
Holden s unreasonable suggestion to Sally, of going to live in the woods together, shows his struggle
with society s plan for people: ...get a job somewhere and we could live somewhere with a brook and
all and, later on, we could get married or something... (ch.17 pg. 142) Holden has an illogical vision of

The Adaptive Nature Of Canada
The Adaptive Nature of Canada?s First People
The Canadian people have always prided themselves as champions of democracy and are universally
respected for their record on human rights. Although holistically this could be argued, especially when
compared to the United States and other Western states, the record concerning Aboriginals, both past
and present, has yet to live up to their self set standard. Defined simply as anyone who traces his/her
ancestry back to pre European colonization, there exist mass diversity within its community. Although
various political actors dispute the actual number of Aboriginals, Statistics Canada reported in 2006
that 1,678,200 people indicated they were ethnically Aboriginal or roughly 5.4 percent of the
population (Statistics Canada: Population Counts). It has been the goal of the Natives to regain
sovereignty since it was stripped from them in the sixteenth century. Pushed to the margins in all
aspects of life from negligible political relevance in Ottawa to the isolation they continue to
experience on the remote reserves, the Aboriginal people have had their humanity sapped
continuously out of them, yet have never given up hope. The minute advances in the last several
decades? stand in stark contrast to repression experienced for centuries. Weathering an intensely
exploitive government, Aboriginals have endured unimaginable repression. It was not until the

Lessons From The Life Of Joseph
Lessons from the Life of Joseph: Overcoming Betrayal
Bart L. Denny OBST 650
November 5, 2014
Devotional for: Single Vision Sunday Morning Adult Bible Fellowship Class
Class size: 12
Demographics: Unmarried men and women, ages 26 and up
Biblical literacy: Mixed (from several Bible College graduates to new Christians)
Text: Genesis 37:18 28
Introduction: The life of Joseph saw both great conflict and incredible drama. Yet, Joseph lived
beyond his circumstances. Joseph was a godly man who overcame terrible situations to be used by
God in a mighty way. Over the years, Joseph would suffer many dramatic reversals of fortune. He
overcame prison, abandonment, loneliness, and fear, until God ultimately placed him in a position to
save his entire family and, indeed, all the progeny of Abraham. Though Joseph might not have been
able to see it, God was always at work in His life. Indeed, through Joseph, God acted to preserve His
covenant people. There are many lessons from the overcoming life of Joseph that Christians may take
comfort in today. The first lesson is in overcoming betrayal.
What did sibling rivalry look like in your family? Did you squabble over a favorite TV channel? Did
you suspect mom and dad played favorites? It is hard to imagine that the most dysfunctional families
we see today could have topped the mess that Joseph was raised in. You see, not only was Joseph s
father, Jacob, a polygamist with children by four women, but also, Jacob played

of living five years,....you figure out that s one in five...and think, as any healthy person would: (I

The Era Of Good Feeling Essay
Following the death of the Federalist political party, and after entering a time of political unity, the
United States entered what historians refer to as the Era of Good Feeling . This era began after the War
of 1812, a war between America and Britain, and the Napoleonic Wars, a series of wars taken place in
the seas near France, ended. The Federalist party was dissolving at the end of the war, and was
completely dissolved when Monroe came into office as president in 1817. At the start of this era, there
was primarily a one party political system, the Democratic Republicans, and there was a rise of
nationalism, hence the era received the title Good Feeling . Socially, this nationalism was felt
throughout the entire nation, specifically directly following the war, in 1815 1817. Economically,
however, the issues of state sovereignty led to the rise of sectionalism, not deserving of the title Good
Feeling . Furthermore, politically, America at this time began to split into the second party system.
While at the start almost everyone was Republican, sectionalism arose during this era, and ultimately
led to the ending of the good feelings entirely. Overall, the time between 1815 and 1825 is
undeserving of its name, The Era of Good Feeling, and sectionalism played a larger role in the United
States at this time then nationalism did. Socially, the the title good feeling is an accurate representation
of the nationalism people were feeling at the time following the War of

  • 2. Drug Addiction, Death, And Burroughs Lifestyle Drug addiction, death, and Burroughs lifestyle are perfect examples of voices from the fringe. William S. Burroughs was born on February 5, 1914, in St. Louis, Missouri. Burroughs died in Lawrence, Kansas, on August 2,1997. He supposedly died from complications of a heart attack, which he incurred the day before. He was buried in the family plot in Bellefontaine Cemetery, which is located in St. Louis Missouri. (Burroughs, Bio) Burroughs was the younger of two sons born to the parents Laura Hammon Lee and Mortimer Perry Burroughs. The Burroughs family was recognized as wealthy and of English descent in St. Louis, Missouri. Burroughs grandfather was known for founding the Burroughs Adding Machine Company. It later became known as the Burroughs Corporation. Burroughs mother was known as the daughter of a minister. The ministers family was apparently related to the famous and remarkable Robert E. Lee. Ivy Lee, Burroughs maternal uncle was an advertising innovator. He later got employment being a publicist for the famous Rockefellers. • 3. Do You Agree with Conflict Theory Have you ever noticed a divide in society between the privileged and who s who are not? Such as someone who is rich versus someone who is poor. This is what we call Conflict theory. How conflict theory is applied to our everyday lives can be seen through many different ideas brought about by these conflict theorists. Whether or not I agree or disagree with this theory, will be determined by the factors and situations that conflict theory has to show. Karl Marx, a philosopher, journalist, and revolutionary socialist, is considered the father of conflict theory. He pointed out the continuous competition for power between different classes in society and how the powerful groups exploit those with less. He suggested social order is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... their influence in the making of social decisions, and their ability to impose values, will also be greater than those of the lower classes (McShane, Williams 129 130). If you are on the bottom and you don t like something that is going on with people in power, you could have a revolution or stage a riot. Anytime you are dealing with the situation where people are fighting over the use of land or who s going to have what status or privilege, we are then seeing things through the eyes of a conflict theorist. Money is a big part of this. Being a member of an aristocracy or a powerful group is part of this. So in addition, we also see minority groups in conflict with the dominant groups. We see exploitation and domestic violence between men and women and sometimes children. There are numerous perspectives of conflict theory on the law. Most of the conflict theorists talk about the law as a way of maintain inequality. That the law is there to advance the interests of people in power, usually people with money. There are also conflict theories that argue about morality or moral entrepreneurs, people that use the criminal law to impose their morality on other people despite the fact that it is not widely held belief and an example would be things like prostitution or other vices that are widely utilized by large segments of the population, but there are smaller segments ... • 4. Autotomy Essay Abstract Autotomy occurs in many animals, but most research focuses on lizards as the trait occurs in the majority of all lizard families (Downes Shine, 2001). The most common form of autotomy in this order is caudal autotomy, relating to the tail. What has possibly made this adaptation so advantageous is the ability of many lizard species to regenerate their tail after autotomy. Being able to grow a secondary tail that can perform the same antipredator function is highly beneficial, and other tail functions such as post autotomous thrashing and bright coloration enhance autotomous behavior greatly. The loss of a limb may appear catastrophic for some organisms, but there are many species that will do it voluntarily when faced with a threat. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In some species, post autotomous tails retain the ability to flex, diverting the attention of the predator away from the escaping lizard to the rapidly undulating tail. Acrobatic flips are occasionally performed by the severed tails of some species, and many others enjoy great dexterity even when not attached to their parent body (Hingham Russell, 2009). The movement of the autotomized tail is independent of brain activity and is instead governed by a network of neurons inside the spine. While predictable central pattern generators are not uncommon in nature, lizard species like the Tokay gecko (gekko gecko) have incorporated erratic and complicated movements into their autotomized tail displays (Hingham Russell, 2009). This unpredictable behavior is meant to appear novel and thus noticeable to the predator, preventing it from pursuing the rest of the gecko body. The mechanism of tail loss involves the coordination of many tissues in the tail to prevent serious damage or danger to the lizard. Vertebrae are specialized in intravertebral autotomous lizards, containing a fracture through the side of vertebra near the disconnection site (Gilbert et al 2013). Most autotomous lizards contain fractured vertebrae, but a few others autotomize intervertebrally, separating between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Baba Joon Essay Baba Joon is the newly released movie by writer/director Yuval Delshad. With a film career that grew from the documentary world, this is his first feature. Never one to shy from reality, Delshad turned to a subject that spoke to his heart; the father/son relationship. To create authenticity, the movie is filmed in the dusty village where Delshad grew up and the actors speak a blend of Hebrew and Farsi, just like it was in the 1980 s of his childhood. Delshad loves the fact that life imitates art, My baby, Yitamar, was conceived during the start of photography and he is already trying to crawl! Baba Joon centers on the conflict of a traditional father, Yitzhak, whose life has been hard and demanding, and his gently defiant son who, as a pre teen, is refusing to learn how to farm turkeys. The mother understands that their son, Moti, has no passion for the family livelihood but Yitzhak takes the decision badly. And thus ends the hopes of all good dreams; the father s desire to pass on his father s business is doomed by his son s utter disinterest. Here is a kid who has no love of turkeys, no desire to learn the trade and no appreciation of the art of poultry manufacture. More painful is the perceived lack of respect that the father senses in Moti s lack of interest. This is the farm that his father built with sweat labor and was the essential ... • 6. The Debate Of Banning The Death Penalty Public Executions The United States has been going through the debate of banning the death penalty for decades; however, it continues to remain at a standstill as crime rates continue to stay the same throughout the country. The people for continuing the death penalty happens to see their group split in to two groups. One for the private executions and the other for public. Public executions can do many things like deter crimes from happening, giving the victims closure, and finding the right kind of execution method that is inexpensive and once used throughout history. The ability to deter crimes with the method of public execution is one we should not waste. It leaves everyone with the knowledge that there is nothing to keep them from being the next one on the chopping block so to speak, especially if they have committed such a crime to deserve the sentence. It takes removes this mindset that the public has come to grasp that everything does not have a consequence for the actions they take. The scare factor works brilliantly in this regard, holding the public to a line they know not to cross. With the line drawn, the number of convicts in the prison system would decrease. This will also free up taxpayers money for other things like education, medical, security, and paying off the national debt. Secondly, this would bring closer to the families, as well as, friends and acquaintances of the victim. This type of execution would give everyone the benefit of seeing ... New contacts were formed in the Atlantic world due to the discovery and colonization of the Americas and later African slave trade, which were both very major events of this time. These interactions mainly affected Western Europe, Africa, and the Americas, whose economies were broadened and social structures further developed and altered as a result. In 1492, spice trade led to Europe s exploration and discovery of the Americas, their advanced weaponry allowed for the colonization of the Americas and also slave trade in Africa. This meant temporary realignment within New Zealand politics, as New Right middle class voters voted Labour at the New Zealand general election, 1987 in approval of its economic policies. At first, Labour corporatised many former government departments and state assets, then emulated the Conservative Thatcher administration and privatised them altogether during Labour s second term of office. In the 1940 s DeCarava began shooting a series photographs in Harlem, which later were included in his first solo show in 1950. In 1952, Decarava was awarded Guggenheim Fellowship, and was the first African American photographer to receive this grant. In 1955 he founded A Photographer s Gallery, which was implemented to gain public interest in photography, and eventually closed due to poor sales. In this paper we try to point out the challenges the organizations might face when they apply variable pay system by reviewing related literature. We find that it is difficult for the company to have a reliable measure for the variable pay system. In addition, the focus of the variable pay plan should be on motivating employees or cutting cost and how to strike a balance between these two is also an essential issue. Like John Traci (2004) stated in their article that if the companies do not manage variable pay plan effectively, the outcome could be less than stellar. At the end of this story the minister who is wearing the veil rhetorically asks, What but the mystery which it obscurely typifies has made this piece of crape so awful? (Hawthorne 1044). Hawthorne has built up this character so carefully and intensely to this point, to quite directly state that this veil on his face represents mystery. The minister also begs the question of, what else does it represent? Asking his congregation, who also persecuted him, to look deep in themselves and figure out the real reason for his apparel. The minister blatantly reveals that his veil typifies mystery in a sense where his congregation cannot keep themselves together, unless they know the absolute truth. Hawthorne uses this veil as a direct representation of mystery and self control, but he also uses it as a symbol of a divine controller, tying in spirituality and religion. Towards the beginning of the story the minister reveals himself looking different, as he wore an obvious black veil over his face. His audience hated the idea of his new look as they muttered amongst themselves, I don t like it, and Our parson has gone mad! (Hawthorne 1038). These two particular quotes obviously reveal the initial distaste for the veil, but it also shows that the congregation could not even control themselves, as they wondered why he wore this disgusting cover. Yet, Joseph lived beyond his circumstances. Joseph was a godly man who overcame terrible situations to be used by God in a mighty way. Over the years, Joseph would suffer many dramatic reversals of fortune. He overcame prison, abandonment, loneliness, and fear, until God ultimately placed him in a position to save his entire family and, indeed, all the progeny of Abraham. Though Joseph might not have been able to see it, God was always at work in His life. Indeed, through Joseph, God acted to preserve His covenant people. There are many lessons from the overcoming life of Joseph that Christians may take comfort in today. The first lesson is in overcoming betrayal. What did sibling rivalry look like in your family? Did you squabble over a favorite TV channel? Did you suspect mom and dad played favorites? On our way there we went a little ahead and the GPS told us to make left and that road was a do not enter road and on the other side there was a car coming so Amina had to turn the car quickly, before we crashed. We finally got to the Alley theater and the Alley did not give us enough information on parking either. I feel like the temporary Alley should have done a better organization for the theater. All ...
