Antitrust Law Violation Of Antitrust Laws
Antitrust Law Violations
Introduction
This paper will discuss the Google case that was presented by Microsoft stating that Google was in
violation of antitrust laws. Also, in this paper some of the pecuniary and non pecuniary costs will be
discussed. Given in this paper will also be my thoughts on monopolies and oligopolies.
Antitrust Case
Google was investigated for antitrust behavior because they were claimed to be an internet bully that
abuses its dominance of online search and advertising (STEINHAUSER LIEDTKE, 2011, p. 1).
Google was doing things like buying smaller companies in search results but then
labeling/highlighting their own services instead. Being that Google was knocking out the competition
by only showing their results ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When dealing with market structures and considering Google as a monopoly, the characteristics of the
monopoly market structure fit. In a sense, Google is being seen as the only producer for internet
search, and is trying to make it seem through their practices that they are the only reliable business in
the industry. Because of the overwhelming market power Google is gaining through the use of other
smaller companies, other businesses such as Microsoft, are beginning to feel that the competition
being created is unfair and favored. Especially with Google blocking out their results as the search
engine is used.
Antitrust as Investopedia pointed out, prohibits a variety of practices that restrain trade, ( Antitrust
Definition | Investopedia , n.d.). According to the complaints of Microsoft, Google was in violation of
the Sherman Act of 1980. The Sherman Act states that, public is best served by free competition in
trade and industry, ( Sherman Anti Trust Act legal definition of Sherman Anti Trust Act , n.d.). Also,
the Sherman Act points out that, it prohibits monopolies attempts to monopolize, or conspiracies to
monopolize. ( Sherman Anti Trust Act legal definition of Sherman Anti Trust Act , n.d). By blocking
out their rivals, and not giving them an equal opportunity to display the information related to the
searches of the consumers, Microsoft felt this was a violation of the Sherman Act. On another note,
after reading the research

To The Virgins To Make Much Of Time By Robert Herrick
In To the virgins to make much of time by Robert Herrick is a poem that features plenty key elements
of a well drafted poem. The poem is dramatized well enough so we know what the speaker is trying to
achieve. This dramatization makes what the speaker wants not meaningless since he is actually trying
to achieve it. In the poem the speaker wants to convey a message to virgins about how they should
gather their rosebuds before it s too late. He encourages the listeners to get married before it s too late
and they re too old. Furthermore, the speaker seems to be skilled and experienced in the subject he s
talking about. He or she could have possibly went through the unfortunate event of aging before
getting the chance to wife someone. For example,

Essay on Taser Guns
Police misconduct and abuse of power has always been an issue in the American Society. As time
progresses so does the world around us, in particular, technology advancement plays a major issue in
our everyday lives. With the rapid advancement in technology, issues of law enforcement and its
power have to be addressed. The issue is, whether problems created when new technologies and the
criminal justice system meet a positive one or do the negatives outweigh the positives. The main focus
is the use of tasers by law enforcement. The Taser is a hand held conducted energy weapon that uses
propelled (i.e., shot) wires to send out or conduct energy that affects the sensory and motor functions
of the central nervous system (Paul V. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

pain as he was stunned several times with a Taser, each time for three to five seconds. He was told
repeatedly to stand up and stop fighting, and was told that if he did not do so he would get Tased

Promoting A Drug Awareness Program For Teens
Promoting a Drug Awareness Program for Teens
Teen drug use/abuse is common. According to the U. S. Department of Health Human Services, the
most common drugs teens use are alcohol, marijuana, tobacco, and prescription drugs (2016). Other
drugs used are inhalants, over the counter medications, and other illegal drugs such as cocaine,
methamphetamine, and heroin. The use of drugs and alcohol increase the risk of injury or death.
According to WebMD, alcohol and drug abuse is a leading cause of teen death or injury related to car
crashes, suicides, violence, and drowning (2014). A drug is anything that can alter the mind or body.
Why do Teens Use or Abuse Drugs?
There are many reasons why a teen or young adult chose to use drugs and alcohol. Many teens do not
have family support or someone to teach them of the dangers of drug use/abuse. Some users do it just
to get a temporary high while others may have others reasons for doing drugs and alcohol. According
to Drug Prevention 4Teens, the most common reasons for doing or tying drugs is to be accepted by
their peers, to alleviate the pressures of school, to be more grown up, and curiosity and lack of
knowledge associated with drug use (2008). Adolescents want to fit in with their peers, and often, the
way to fit in is to use alcohol or drugs. Other teens have issues with keeping up the demands set for
middle school and high school students and may turn to drugs or alcohol as a way to deal with the

Helen Keller s Relationship With Anne Sullivan
Have you ever felt like you couldn t do anything about your life? Like you were stuck and couldn t
move or couldn t listen to anyone s advice because it meant nothing to you? Helen Keller had this
physically happen to her. She experienced a severe childhood illness when she was nineteen months
old and became deaf and blind. For the first few years of her life, it was extremely hard to
communicate with people. Then, she created a relationship with Anne Sullivan who made a goal to
teach Helen to communicate. Helen was courageous throughout her entire life because she was
determined to learn to communicate with other people and have successions like normal people could
do.
Helen Keller went through a lot of hardships throughout her life. First, when she first became blind
and deaf, she was very little so it must have been terrifying to wake up one day and to not see your
mom or dad to be comforted. It also took Helen a while to learn how to communicate, so those few
years that she couldn t do anything it must have been very hard to do daily things. Helen finally
learned the word water from Sullivan after a few frustrating months. After Helen excelled at
communicating with people she became the first blind and deaf person to receive a bachelor s degree
of art. She learned how to speak and practice lip reading. Helen became a proficient writer and ...

For week 7 I decided that I would do my assignment on Shinto, since taking this class and reading
about Shinto it started to interest me, especially now that I can look back and think about what I saw
when I was in Japan and wondered what the religion was that they were practicing. Shinto s meaning
is way of the gods , this is one of the oldest religions in Japan, which began during the period of the
Yayoi culture (c. 300 BCE 300 CE). The faith has neither a founder or prophets and there is no major
text which outlines its principal beliefs. Shinto s key concepts of purity, harmony, family respect, and

at the power/control that the gods wielded. Amaterasu then went to her grandson Honinigi, these were
the jewels and mirror the gods used to persuade Amaterasu out of her cave and the sword that was
given to her by Susanoo, known later as Kusanagi. These three objects would become part of the
imperial regalia of Japan. Another symbol carried by Honinigi was the magnificent magatama jewel
which had special fertility powers. The most powerful god was Okuninushi, Honinigi landed on Mt.

would have the important role of protector of the future royal family. Later, the god would be regarded
as the protector of all Japan.

Barack Obama Persuasive Speech Analysis
Before getting into how persuasive Barack Obama is, I d like to discuss how powerful the art of
persuasion is. In order to understand and analyze Barack Obama s power of persuasion, we need to
understand the fundamentals of persuasion and the likely outcome of utilizing those fundamentals.
The ultimate goal of persuasion, persuasive speeches being the medium in any president s case, is to
convince an audience to accept the speaker s point of view, to motivate an audience to act on that
point of view, and make them feel good about acting on the speaker s point of view ( The Goals of a
Persuasive Speech: Convincing, Actuation, and Stimulation Boundless Open Textbook ). Having an
audience to do all three of these things means the speaker has given a successful persuasive speech.
There are countless techniques one could use to achieve these goals. The first, and most prevalent in
any president s persuasive power, is the authority factor; People will follow the lead of creditable and
knowledgeable experts (Zipkin). With the 2016 primary elections coming up, one would hear
conversation this aspect all of the time. It comes with deciding if someone has enough experience to
be the leader of the free world. Obama used this technique in the 2008 primary elections against
Hillary; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

gets to like him, the more other people will want to be a part of the pack of people who like Obama.
By creating a big enough following to do the persuading for him, he is using the ultimate form of
persuasion. This can be said about how many more people voted for him in his second term. He had a
big enough following the first time around where that following convinced others of just how great
they thought Obama was, in turn, getting him elected a second

potential in the High Line, which was no longer active in 1982 when he saw it, one day while

Friends of the High Line fought for the High Line s preservation and transformation at a time when
the historic structure was under the threat of demolition. They came together to recreate the High Line
into an open space for the public to walk above the city . Yet it was not until 2002 to 2003 they began
to figure out how they wanted to reuse the already existing framework without altering too much. The
best way to say money and truly preserve the High Line s historical figure was by planning around the
rail line. The architecture firm that helped was James Corner Field Operations, Diller Scofidio +

Energy Consumption And Its Effect On The Environment
Introduction
Energy consumption is universal to all, in spite of the location in the world. Different countries and
people consume different amounts of energy at any given time. Energy consumption ranges from
small scale to large scale uses for different purposes. However, what is common to all despite the
amount used is the impact of the consumption that cuts across every region. Among the most
fundamental sources of energy used on regular basis, include oil, natural gas, and coal, which are
fossil fuels. The generation of energy from fossil fuels requires combustion to take place, which, as a
resultant, causes pollution to the atmosphere. An increase in the pollutants in the atmosphere causes
environmental issues in the specific locale and the globe on a larger scale. The main pollutant to the
environment due to fossil fuel combustion is the greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide. Climate change is
accelerated by the emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere; there have been efforts from
around the world by governments to reduce the emission of this greenhouse gas. Some measures put
in place has reduced the emission of the said gas, however, some are yet to yield the desired result.
Different countries consume different amounts of energy, and therefore, the emission of carbon
dioxide into the environment varies greatly from one country to another.
Energy in the United States and China
Both China and the United States are the major global consumers of energy in the world. As

Who Is Jim Carey A Hero
Hello there, this writing piece is about my hero Jim Carrey. In this piece, I will tell you about the
things Jim Carrey has done for me over the years. Firstly, I will be telling you about his battle with
depression and how it affected me.
Last year, around halfway through the year, I had very bad depression. I soon learned that Jim Carrey
also had bad depression at one point. This is when I started fighting depression. When I stopped
having suicidal thoughts. When I started having thoughts like Wait a second, he s not my friend! I m
just one of his cronies! That thought had a few... bad names in it, but were removed due to them being
rude. After I had that thought I decided to completely ignore them. But they had strengths in numbers
He, being the most popular kid in school, had as many friends as you could count. But I, being now
the most unpopular kid in school, had only the kids he had bullied. There was Jawn, my best friend
since kinder, Jonty, who up until that point I had never been friends with, Darcy, who was much taller
than me and hated him with a burning passion, and Bradley, who was like an undercover spy, spying
on what they said about us. The battle continued, and I started doing horrible in school because I didn
t get much sleep, maybe 6 7 hours a night, but I still tried my best, because there were Jim Carrey
movies I haven t watched. But soon enough I was running out of Jim Carrey movies to watch. The
depression started to take over. I started getting

Abraham And The Early Journey Of The Formation Of Israel
Introduction
This world was created for a purpose. That purpose was to shine and reflect the majesty of the creator.
Faith is having a confident attitude toward God, involving commitment to His will for one s life and
that His plans are for our best and flow from His love for us. As we read through the Old and New
Testament of the bible we see how the men of God are described living by their faith.
1 Corinthians 13:13 (NKJV) ... 13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of
these is love.
Body
Though we could look at many of the Bible accounts from Adam to Noah, Noah to Abraham,
Abraham to David or David to Jesus, we will primarily focus on Abraham and the early journey of the
formation of Israel. The same principles can be found in all of these periods. God s promise to
Abraham was he would become the father of many nations. Abraham s obedience to God allow him to
experience the Love of God by trusting God at his word. When God asked Abraham to take Isaac his
son, Genesis 22:2 (NKJV) Then he said, Take now your son your only son Isaac, whom you love and
go to the land Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I will
tell you. . Abraham obeyed God and while on the journey Isaac asked Abraham, where the Lamb was
for the sacrifice Abraham answered God will provide and this is where you see Abraham s faith in
God. Works of obedience evidence this faith, which God actually identifies as righteousness. We see

Internet Censorship Of China, South Africa And Other...
Internet censorship in China, South Africa and other countries is something that prohibits real
discussion from taking place regarding issues that affect the public. For instance, in China, certain key
word searches are automatically filtered out so that users cannot find the information they are seeking.
While Internet censorship may be good from one perspective (in terms of stemming the flow of child
pornography, curbing false information, or putting a nation s interests first), it can be viewed as bad
from another perspective (in terms of cutting down on the opportunity to inform sides of a dialogue,
promoting free exchange of ideas, or discussing why one form of pornography is allowed but not
another). This paper will show why Internet censorship can be interpreted in both positive and
negative ways depending on the perspective that one adopts (whether one is pro Statist or anti Statist).
In short, pros and cons depend wholly upon one s worldview and outlook. The first pro may be, as
Lorentzen (2014) notes, that a partial censorship strategy is an effective way for governments to
control the levels of discontent in their respective countries (p. 405). Lorentzen (2014) observes that
this is a model that could be applied in China as it attempts to control its Internet content, though he
argues that all nations could utilize it, permitting half of the discontent to be reported when discontent
is high and all of the discontent to be reported when discontent is

India is a country of geographic diversities with varied soil types, habitats, climates and vegetations.
India is a major producer of food (fruits, vegetables, wheat, pulse, milk, spices etc.) in the world after
China. This industry is the front end of the agriculture sector, which is a significant economic
component, employing nearly 60% of the country s population and contributing to around 25% of

The proportionate expenditure on cereals, pulses, edible oil, sugar, salt and spices declines as
households climb the expenditure classes in urban India while the opposite happens in the case of milk
and milk products, meat, egg and fish, fruits and beverages. For instance, the proportionate
expenditure on staples (cereals, grams, pulses) declined from 45 per cent to 44 per cent in rural India
while the figure settled at 32 per cent of the total expenditure on food in urban India. A large part of
this shift in consumption is driven by the processed food market, which accounts for 32 per cent of the

The Virgin Suicides, Indignation And The Price Of Salt
Society has labeled girls as passive and unable to show or express their emotions and Plath writes how

Through films and writings such as The Virgin Suicides, Indignation and The Price of Salt, we can see
how there is a much deeper underlying issue that girl culture is experiencing. When girl culture is
represented through films and books that are not written by an adolescent girl, they fail to recognize
the real issues that these girls are dealing with. Girls are struggling with self esteem and a sense of
who they are as a person, and when films and books put a false image of how they should be if they
don t meet that standard, it only complicates their lives further. We have seen the impact of societies
standards in, The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath, where she has thought about ending her life
because of the situations that she has experienced. Until society can stop putting unrealistic
expectations on adolescent girls, they will continue to struggle to find an identity and build

Why We Need The 21st Century
Anyone studying need 21st century abilities to be fruitful. It s energizing to trust that we live in times
that are revolutionary to the point that they request new and diverse capacities. The aptitudes
understudies need in the 21st century are relevant today as they were 20 years ago. Critical thinking
has been a part of the human advancement all through history, from the improvement of ahead of
schedule devices, to horticultural headways, to the innovation of antibodies, to land and ocean
investigation. In different societies skills such as information literacy and global awerness are not new.
The Republic, Plato expounded on four unmistakable levels of astuteness. Maybe at the time, these
were viewed as third century BCE abilities ? What s very is the degree to which changes in our
economy and the world imply that aggregate and individual achievement relies on upon having such
abilities. A majority of the students in the U.S are taught these aptitudes the individuals who are
sufficiently blessed to go to very viable schools or possibly experience extraordinary educators
however it s a matter of chance as opposed to the intentional outline of our educational system. Today
we can t manage the cost of a framework in which accepting a brilliant instruction is much the same as

Racial Diversity And Diversity
Diversity is permanently entrenched in American culture and with a better understanding of other
cultures people can come to a place of collaboration and cooperation with one another. Looking back
on what all I have learned in this course, the most important realization I had was just how white

myriad of white researchers who were attempting to prove the inferiority of other races especially
African Americans. Paper after paper delineating all of the physical differences and potential mental
differences between African Americans and Caucasians simply to bolster their own inaccurate sense of
superiority reveals the darker side of research and scientific exploration (Guthrie, 2004). Several of
the issues we discussed in class were ones I was at least somewhat aware of and had been informed
about in some sense or another. One of the surprising pieces of information was the health disparity
between Caucasians and minorities. Logically speaking this disparity makes sense since when there is
such a wide wage gap between these two groups one could assume this would have an effect on the
health of those in question as well. While I was aware of the social construction of gender, I was not
aware of all of the various types of gender and gender expression that exists in other cultures and
societies. For instance, the term two spirited in some Native American tribes refers to people

Characteristics Of Bee Hummingbirds
Bee hummingbirds are interesting birds that you may or may not know about. They are from Cuba and
are the smallest birds in the world. In this paper you will discover more about bee hummingbirds and
their special features and lifestyle. Prepare to be amazed by them!
Description
Bee hummingbirds are the smallest known species of hummingbird, and also the smallest known
species of bird in the world! They have a record of about 5cm, and are often mistaken for bees because
of their size. They re so small, that they can easily perch on the tip of one of your fingers! They weigh
about 2 grams. That s about the weight of two one dollar bills! Their lifespan is only about 3 5 years
long. The males have a blue back with a black head and white under feathers. They have black spots
on the tip of each tail feather If the male is breeding, their plumage turns brightly colored, with a
bright red , almost pink, head. They have blue spots on the tips of their wings and like most
hummingbirds, they have a gorget, a patch of feathers that are the same color as the head that come
down onto the neck on each side. The females have a mostly green back, and white under feathers and
their tails are tipped white rather than black. The females are also slightly larger than the males.
Habitat Bee hummingbirds live mostly in Cuba and possibly some smaller islands around it.( see pic)
They prefer to be in lower altitude and live mostly in and along the edges of the forests

Sterilization and Disinfection in a Dental Office Essays
There are two important things to do in a dental office in order to prevent cross infection. These two
forms are sterilization and disinfection. According to the CDC and the Food and Drug Administration
before either of these forms can be used you have to clean the instruments. This can be done either by
hand or by using an ultrasonic cleaner.
Even though both sterilization and disinfection are both important there is a big difference between the
two. Sterilization is the process of killing all microorganisms. Where disinfection is the process of
destroying pathogenic organisms or rendering them inert. The centers for disease control says there is
one cardinal rule for infection ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The reason behind this is because of the chemicals toxicity.

(this is for the bio) The third is dry heat. Dry heat is one of the earliest forms for sterilizing. This form
is as it sounds, dry heat utilizes hot air that is either free from water vapor, or has very little of it, and
where this moisture plays a minimal or no role in the process. The way dry heat sterilizes is by
coagulating the proteins in any organism, thus causing drying of cells. Dry heat can even burn them to
ashes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dry_heat_sterilization The last form of sterilization I am going to
talk about is cold sterile. The reason for cold sterile is not all items can go into heat sterilization.
Liquid sterilant, such as 2% to 3.4% glutataldehyde, must be used for this type of sterilization. In
order for the cold sterile to work the items must be fully submerged for no less than 10 hours,
anything less than that would only be disinfection. This form of sterilization also requires a material
safety data sheet due to it being a chemical.

Too Much Televison Is Good
Some people believe that things such as televison, computers, and cell phones have a negative effect
on children while others believe that in the long run they have no real effect. In my opinion watching
too much televison is not good for children in the long run and can cause many problems for you in
the future. Children in the United States have an average of 7.5 hours of screen time per day. Spending
that much time watching a televison screen can be very damaging for the eyes as opposed to reading a
book, creating an art project, or just going out side to get some fresh air. An article from a scientific
journal says that light from the screen confuses the viewers body clock this causes the veiwer to not

The Current Pressurized Oxygen Tension Based Indices Response
In this thesis, I have attempted to further explore the nature of the current utilised oxygen tension
based indices response, with a view to its use as a tool to assess the pulmonary oxygenation in
critically ill patients. Furthermore, this thesis developed a new index to assess pulmonary
oxygenation. This topic was explored with external pulmonary factors to quantify oxygenation defect
through a maze of mathematics, different diseases, and pathophysiology. There was one or two ways
that could lead us to the answer and many dead end routes. Ultimately, the research produced an
equation that was more robust than the PaO2/FiO2 ratio in terms of less variation. The first chapter
described two different types of oxygen indices and its use. The second chapter described the medical
simulator in general and the Nottingham Physiology Simulator (NPS) in particular. In chapter three,
we examined the variation of certain oxygen indices with changes in the following external
physiological factors (FIO2, Hb, RQ, and VO2) without changing the pulmonary configuration status.
This investigation was done with ARDS simulated patients using a validated NPS model. The study
demonstrates that the external physiological factors induced a remarkable variation in comparing to
oxygen indices, and the use of each index depends on the type of the external physiological factors.
However, we conclude that clinicians should be aware of using the best index according to patient s
status. Accordingly,

Identity In Hunger Of Memory By Richard Rodriguez
The public self is often times not the true self. This indication of a difference between the public and
true self leads to the idea that the self and identity of an individual are different concepts. The self, is a
person s essential being that makes each individual unique compared to others; whereas the identity, is
a person s character that is essentially created to help the individual fit into society. These two
concepts begin to form early in life through influences from society, family, and culture. However, as
the individual beings to assimilate the world around them, their sense of identity transforms in order to
adapt to the new environment, while their sense of self remains the same. When talking to an
individual, rarely will they describe themselves completely, as their true self; meaning, they will give

This socioeconomic status can be affected by the individual s job, their race, and gender. It is because
of this socioeconomic status that causes some people to forget about their family and traditions to go

always ashamed of how dark his skin was compared to the other kids. He saw how all the Mexican
farmers and los pobres, or the poor, were of dark complexion, which made him think that his dark
complexion would determine his future. However, he began going to focus in school and further his

Human Trafficking Through A Feminist Theoretical Perspective
Human Trafficking Through a Feminist Theoretical Perspective
Feminist Theory
It s unfortunate that when some people hear the term feminism, they automatically place that as a
negative word and it becomes something they don t want to be associated with. It is unfortunate that
people will try to avoid it however, people will still embrace the feminist politics. As feminist scholar
Susan A. Mann (2012) describes, when people refuse to identify as a feminist they create the I m not a
feminist but syndrome. This refers to when people understand the importance of struggles with gender
issues, such that include the wage gap or domestic violence, but they will still reject the notion that it
may actually mean they are a feminist if they are fighting for that cause. Feminism has a simple
definition, it means that women seek gender equality through political, social, and economic gain.
Feminist theory is directed to the understanding of women s lives, struggles, and how we can improve
those areas of struggles for women. Theory has become a significant part to the feminist community,
because it gives feminists the opportunity to discuss the issues in a manner where they feel liberated,
and could service as a healing function (bell hooks, 1994).

Parole Officers And The Prison System
The world we live is constantly changing whether we are on the streets or in the prison system.
Society doesn t understand that being in the prison is the almost the same as being on the streets. For
instance, there are inmates that sell drugs and rob and kill people and cover it up just as if
they were on the streets. There are correctional officers that work there, but they can t observe
everything that goes on in the prison system. This is one of the reasons that being a parole officer
would be a good job to have. The streets are already bad enough so taking some of the bad guys
off the streets can help get the community back under control. Parole officer not only help in the
streets the help in the court house. Parole officers can help the judge make decisions on what the
inmate should be given whether its freedom or jail time. Parole officers have allot of offenders to
keep in contact with when they have not had contact with the offender this becomes a violation
and their parole can be revoked. (https://pap.georgia.gov/parole violations revocations) In the
past few years I have seem allot of inmates in back in prison because they could not follow the
guidelines for parole and they were sent back to prison to finish their sentence. When an offender

Rome. Though Brutus acknowledges the ethical and moral concerns of his actions, he commits to the
conspiracy against Caesar, and carries it out with conviction. The question, however, is whether or not
Brutus actions are justifiable from an objective point of view. Unlike most other political
assassinations, Brutus isn t a hysterical stranger distraught with the target, but a close ally, and trusted

The Abolition Of The Brazilian Slaves Essay
The Abolition of the Brazilian Slaves
Slavery in the Americas started with Christopher Columbus at the end of his first voyage, west of the
Atlantic. When Columbus saw the Indians (as he called them) and he thought they would make great
servants to overlords in Europe. The author writes, he promised to bring Ferdinand and Isabella as
many slaves as they required (Nowara 10). This was a suitable proposition because the lifestyle of
slavery was already embedded in the minds of the Europeans during the medieval times. The
Portuguese and the Spanish were already using slaves from Africa while Columbus was discovering
the Americas and the Caribbean. During sometime between 500 A.D 1500; the Iberian Peninsula
became a gateway for slavery after Spanish and Portuguese kingdoms drove out Muslim kingdoms
and battled them in the North of Africa. Another place that was conquered by the Portuguese was
Morocco and the city of Ceuta which was a strait in the peninsula. Giving the Portuguese control and
power of trade routes of gold and slaves. This soon brought the Portuguese west and down Africa
coastline. But African slaves was already well known in parts of west and central Africa. The author
writes slavery was a well rooted institution in the African societies with which they traded (Nowara
12).
There is proof of trade routes dating before the Atlantic slave routes, coming from the Saharan and
Indian Ocean region. But the Atlantic slavery trade routes had a lot more captives

The Use Of Film Techniques In Sleepy Hollow
Sleepy Hollow is a gothic horror film directed by Tim Burton in 1999. It tells the story of when
Ichabod Crane is sent to the isolated town of Sleepy Hollow to solve the mystery of the Headless
Horseman. The isolated gloomy setting for example, when Ichabod Crane enters the town, the film
techniques such as music and lighting such as when the Headless Horseman appears combined with
characters that have supernatural powers including Catrina and Lady Van Tassel reinforces the idea
that Sleepy Hollow is a gothic horror film.
The town of Sleepy Hollow is isolated, dark and gloomy, it also has contains mostly gothic
architecture. This is to support the spine chilling atmosphere that Tim Burton has intended in the film.
This is to create a theme of fear and panic towards the viewer because the idea of gothic horror is to
create a suspenseful, isolated and dark environment in the movie. An example of this is when Ichabod
Crane arrives at sleepy hollow and is instantly greeted by a grave yard and a gloomy, foggy and gothic
looking town. The setting of the place in this scene is an excellent example of how gothic horror
differs from other styles of horror. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Police Brutality
There is various forms of human rights violation currently in the United States, however; Police abuse
remains the most serious of them all. Police brutality is, therefore, the use of excessive force or even
unnecessary force by the police while they are dealing with civilians. People are left wondering if the
police are doing the jobs they were appointed to do under the law. They act in ways such as the use of
guns and pepper sprays to intimidate civilians, racial profiling, false arrests, severe beatings,
unjustified shootings, police corruption and even sexual abuse among others (King). The truth of the
matter is that such incidents usually go un noticed and worse of unreported. Police brutality is an issue
of contention given that they have the authority to apply force when necessary. Hence, when do we
say that police brutality has occurred, what causes it and how do we end it.
Currently, there is inadequate report statics of police brutality incidents or complaints. The reason
being that there is no requirement that states that any of the law enforcement agencies must report
such statistics. Hence, all the data that is presented is based on the ones reported voluntarily. In fact,
the federal bureau of investigation stated that they cannot handle such cases when there is no reliable
information that they can analyze (Dokoupil). Police brutality remains to be high in areas where there
is a high prevalence of criminal

want to mow lawns and trim trees for a living and continuously fights with his father and has a lack of
respect for what he does to earn money. Perhaps that biggest conflict in the movie is both Carlos and
Luis against society which appears to be completely against them as they work together to get their
stolen truck back but are met with nonstop resistance and obstacles, and in the end leads to Carlos
finally getting his truck back but only to find himself getting pulled over by a police officer and
getting sent to jail where he waits to get deported. Even with being deported in the end, the last scene

The Nations that are our current enemies are Austria hungary. We see them as a threat because we

we will not need them for anything else. If we keep our country s best interest in mind and stop
worrying about treaties, we believe we can win.

The Civil War Of Iran Essay
Historical Background
Throughout the 1980 s, Lebanon was engulfed in a brutal civil war that was waged between the
government and different rebel factions. Hezbollah, a fundamentalist Shia militant group allied with
the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), was one of the major forces fighting against the
Lebanese government. With Ronald Reagan as acting president of the United States, he made an effort
toward stabilizing the Area by sending peacekeeping forces to Beirut. In retaliation to this
involvement, a suicide bomber drove a truck into a military barracks, killing 241 peacekeepers on
October 23, 1983. 21 suspects were detained in suspicion of being involved in the planning of the
attack; Hezbollah, in retaliation, began to kidnap American and western individuals, demanding the
release of these men along with other outrageous concessions. Meanwhile, only a few countries away,
the newly formed Islamic Republic of Iran was at war against its secular neighbor, Iraq. Prior to the
Iranian Revolution, America had close relations with Iran s former leader, Shah Mohammad Reza
Pahlavi, and supplied the regime with American made military equipment. The new Iranians leaders,
however, had begun to exhaust these munitions from its war with Iraq, requiring more weapons and
spare parts in order to effectively thwart the advances by Saddam Hussein s army. The United States
however, had vowed neutrality, stating they would not sell arms to the belligerents of the war. In the

Academic Writing Styles
Academic writing
Proper academic writing should demonstrate the students understanding of the subject at hand. (Elton,
2010) adds that because academic writing may defer from discipline to discipline, instructors in
schools have a duty to express their expectations of students writing while students on the other hand
should act on it.
Academic writing is logical
The student s work needs to have a introduction, the body and the conclusion. The introduction gives a
background to the topic and one could include interesting facts and quotations. It is important to
outline the main ideas that are in the body. The student then discusses the main points in the body.
This is done in paragraphs which should be well structured to give a coherent argument. The
conclusion is the final paragraph and must briefly summarise every idea discussed in the body.
Other s works
Academic writing builds on what others have done on the same subject. A student therefore needs to
base his work on his own ideas as well as what others have done and thought about, however, students
should take care not to get lost in another scholar s voice but should instead incorporate the
information so as to maintain the novelty of his argument. (Hampton, 2014) states that another scholar
s work should be fully acknowledged by accurate citation.
Academic writing is objective
Academic writing is objective (A. De Montfort University Website, 2014) states that one needs to

The Normative View Of Christianity
Christianity is a widespread religion that reaches many different cultures and places all around the
world. Since it is such a widespread religion there are many types of interpretations that can be
developed based off the words and teachings of the Bible. Most commonly we have the normative
view of Christianity. The normative view can most basically be understood as the highly shared
teachings of churches. Another type of interpretation that encompasses all beliefs that are not
compliant with the normative view is called esoteric. Here we will compare the interpretations of
Daskalos, the Great Teacher of Cypress, and his Researchers of Truth against the normative view of
Christianity as understood by both Catholics and Protestants. In order to further investigate the
differences between Daskalos esoteric beliefs and normative beliefs we must understand fully what
esoteric and normative truly mean. A few beliefs of normative Christianity, as explained by Moreman,
are as follows: the belief in judgement after death. There are only 2 places to go, hell or heaven and
that may or may not be after a slight stop in purgatory, the intermediate state of being right after death
where souls await resurrection (Moreman, 62). When the resurrection happens, people will be
resurrected in their physical bodies, thanks to interpretations by St. Augustine of Hippo (Moreman,
62). Those souls or people that are evil will spend eternity in hell in fiery damnation (Moreman, 63).

Thin looks more healthy and attractive. Thin looks you more better in clothing that you would want to
wear. In my opinion, being thin is not what it is all cracked up to be. Being thin has many benefits in a
matter of health tissues, but being fat doesn t necessarily mean that the fat person is close to have heart
attack. It all depends on the person. Fat is good, it gives you that insulation that you need during those
long, lonely, cold nights because there s no one to hold you. People are too into thin is in idea, not
seeing that fat can be beautiful. As a person who doesn t belong in the thin category, I strongly believe
that I can be healthier without changing my size dramatically. It s true that there are many health
issues to consider when a person is fat, but it is also true that many thin people have just as many
problems. Many people strive to become thin to look beautiful and can be accepted by our societies,
especially models and dancers. Many of them have eating disorders that definitely does not make
them healthy. There will always be a debate between fat and thin. In my opinion, fat is better. Despite
the possible health problems and risks, fat people too, can be healthy. It s a choice made by the person.
I have never met an angry, up tight fat person in my nearly sixteen years of existence. We re just jolly

Love and Desdemona
othello was a tradgic play. it shows many different types of feeling inWithout Trust, Love Cannot
Prevail
Trust can be defined as assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or
something (Webster s 1246). In life many people are faced with the decision on who or who not to
trust, especially in the realm of love. Trust is one of the main factors needed to determine a healthy,
loving relationship. In William Shakespeare s Othello, the main character Othello is unable to trust his
new bride Desdemona. In act one, scene three, Desdem the all the actsOthello, the central character of
William Shakespeare s play is an excellent leader but a poor reasoner and foolish lover. The tragedy of
`Othello is largely due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are in Othello, as in life, many different types of love, with some characters displaying different
sorts of love depending on with whom they are sharing their love. Probably The Senate scene should
be studied carefully in order to reach an adequate appreciation of the frankly declared love of these
newly wedded people. Only by realizing the great depth of their love can one grasp the enormity of
Iago s hideous crime against them. Some of the commentators tell us that it was a love in which one
great soul called to another, but each reader must find his own evidence of such a love in the lines of
the play. Careful study will convince him that theirs was a greater, deeper love than the impetuous
love of Romeo and Juliet or the impassioned love of Antony and Cleopatra. (82)
Daringly, Shakespeare opens this tragedy of love not with a direct and sympathetic portrayal of the
lovers themselves, but with a scene of vicious insinuation about their marriage. The images employed
by Iago to describe the coupling of Othello and Desdemona are revoltingly animalistic, sodomistic. [. .
.] This degraded view reduces the marriage to one of utter carnality, with repeated emphasis on the
word gross : Desdemona has yielded to the gross clasps of the lascivious Moor, and has made a gross
revolt against her family and society (II.129, 137). (218)

Gilgamesh Analysis
Gilgamesh One of the earliest surviving works of literature is The Epic of Gilgamesh. It is a source
into understanding the Sumerians and what they believe. The Epic of Gilgamesh takes place in an
ancient Sumerian city of Uruk, which is modern day Iraq. We can take a few things away from this
poem about the Sumerians. For one, they have strong beliefs in gods and goddesses and they have a
self consciousness of their cultivation with the natural world. The main character of this poem is
Gilgamesh, the king of Uruk. Gilgamesh is 1/3rd human and 2/3rds god, incredibly handsome, and is
one of the strongest humans. Ultimately Gilgamesh is the most powerful man of his time, which
allows him to exploit women and wear out the city. Gilgamesh s power started to irritate the people
and they needed someone who would be able to stand up to him. Hence, the goddess, Aruru, created
Enkidu, Gilgamesh s frenemy turned loyal companion. Before Enkidu became Gilgamesh s friend and
loyal companion, he was one with the wild. Instead of being part human, part god, Enkidu was 1/3rd
human and 2/3rds beast. He lived in the forest with animals only eating grass and drinking out of
water holes. He was unaware of the civilized life outside of the forest. He did not understand the ways
of civilized life. Instead he was used to his primitive ways, he did not know what losses he was facing
verses what he was going to gain. After the temple prostitute, he developed a need for human

Advantages And Disadvantages Of The British Army
with the advantages, the British soldiers had more money to buy supplies such as weapons; they did
not have to worry about whether how many armed men were coming up to them and what weapons
were they carrying because they knew that they were the most powerful in this matter. As well as the
advantages, the British army had disadvantages. One of their disadvantages was that they fought from
home, which made them have poor communication with their leaders. The British had a hard job; they
needed to make the Americans to give up their claims of independence. The British army also had less
reasons to fight this war, they were fighting because it was their job, unlike the Americans who were
pursuing freedom. Additionally, the British were fighting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The British decided to end the war in part because of military setbacks but also because London
merchants were eager to renew trade with America. The British government had also concluded that
the war was not worth the cost. The war virtually becomes to an end in 1781 but, it was not until 1783
when the Treaty of Paris made it official. The Treaty of Paris served as a negotiation between the
United States and Great Britain as a way of ending the war. The American Congress named a group of
Americans to discuss the peace negotiation with the British; they included John Adams, John Jay and
Benjamin Franklin. Great Britain finally recognizes that the thirteen former colonies belong to the
Americans and they agreed that the Mississippi is part of the United States serving as a boundary. The
war for independence had effects in political, economic and social life. People started to be treated as
equal, this government became a form of government where power was given to people. Women
became politically active and thousands of slaves were set free. The Articles of Confederation were
created as a great outcome of the Revolutionary

Also, in this paper some of the pecuniary and non pecuniary costs will be discussed. Given in this paper will also be my thoughts on monopolies and oligopolies. Antitrust Case Google was investigated for antitrust behavior because they were claimed to be an internet bully that abuses its dominance of online search and advertising (STEINHAUSER LIEDTKE, 2011, p. 1). When dealing with market structures and considering Google as a monopoly, the characteristics of the monopoly market structure fit. In a sense, Google is being seen as the only producer for internet search, and is trying to make it seem through their practices that they are the only reliable business in the industry. Because of the overwhelming market power Google is gaining through the use of other smaller companies, other businesses such as Microsoft, are beginning to feel that the competition being created is unfair and favored. Especially with Google blocking out their results as the search engine is used. Antitrust as Investopedia pointed out, prohibits a variety of practices that restrain trade, ( Antitrust Definition | Investopedia , n.d.). According to the complaints of Microsoft, Google was in violation of the Sherman Act of 1980. The Sherman Act states that, public is best served by free competition in trade and industry, ( Sherman Anti Trust Act legal definition of Sherman Anti Trust Act , n.d.). Also, the Sherman Act points out that, it prohibits monopolies attempts to monopolize, or conspiracies to monopolize. ( Sherman Anti Trust Act legal definition of Sherman Anti Trust Act , n.d). Shinto Research Paper For week 7 I decided that I would do my assignment on Shinto, since taking this class and reading about Shinto it started to interest me, especially now that I can look back and think about what I saw when I was in Japan and wondered what the religion was that they were practicing. Shinto s meaning is way of the gods , this is one of the oldest religions in Japan, which began during the period of the Yayoi culture (c. 300 BCE 300 CE). The faith has neither a founder or prophets and there is no major text which outlines its principal beliefs. In order to understand and analyze Barack Obama s power of persuasion, we need to understand the fundamentals of persuasion and the likely outcome of utilizing those fundamentals. The ultimate goal of persuasion, persuasive speeches being the medium in any president s case, is to convince an audience to accept the speaker s point of view, to motivate an audience to act on that point of view, and make them feel good about acting on the speaker s point of view ( The Goals of a Persuasive Speech: Convincing, Actuation, and Stimulation Boundless Open Textbook ). Having an audience to do all three of these things means the speaker has given a successful persuasive speech. There are countless techniques one could use to achieve these goals. The first, and most prevalent in any president s persuasive power, is the authority factor; People will follow the lead of creditable and knowledgeable experts (Zipkin). Obletz was many things, an activist, Metropolitan Transportation Authority consultant (which sparked his interest in the High Line), and chairman on the Community Board 4. He saw potential in the High Line, which was no longer active in 1982 when he saw it, one day while exploring an abandoned section of the once elevated rail. That trip began his fight in the 1970s. • 14. Energy Consumption And Its Effect On The Environment Introduction Energy consumption is universal to all, in spite of the location in the world. Different countries and people consume different amounts of energy at any given time. Energy consumption ranges from small scale to large scale uses for different purposes. However, what is common to all despite the amount used is the impact of the consumption that cuts across every region. Among the most fundamental sources of energy used on regular basis, include oil, natural gas, and coal, which are fossil fuels. The generation of energy from fossil fuels requires combustion to take place, which, as a resultant, causes pollution to the atmosphere. An increase in the pollutants in the atmosphere causes environmental issues in the specific locale and the globe on a larger scale. The main pollutant to the environment due to fossil fuel combustion is the greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide. Climate change is accelerated by the emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere; there have been efforts from around the world by governments to reduce the emission of this greenhouse gas. Some measures put in place has reduced the emission of the said gas, however, some are yet to yield the desired result. Different countries consume different amounts of energy, and therefore, the emission of carbon dioxide into the environment varies greatly from one country to another. Internet censorship in China, South Africa and other countries is something that prohibits real discussion from taking place regarding issues that affect the public. For instance, in China, certain key word searches are automatically filtered out so that users cannot find the information they are seeking. While Internet censorship may be good from one perspective (in terms of stemming the flow of child pornography, curbing false information, or putting a nation s interests first), it can be viewed as bad from another perspective (in terms of cutting down on the opportunity to inform sides of a dialogue, promoting free exchange of ideas, or discussing why one form of pornography is allowed but not another). This paper will show why Internet censorship can be interpreted in both positive and negative ways depending on the perspective that one adopts (whether one is pro Statist or anti Statist). In short, pros and cons depend wholly upon one s worldview and outlook. The first pro may be, as Lorentzen (2014) notes, that a partial censorship strategy is an effective way for governments to control the levels of discontent in their respective countries (p. 405). Lorentzen (2014) observes that this is a model that could be applied in China as it attempts to control its Internet content, though he argues that all nations could utilize it, permitting half of the discontent to be reported when discontent is high and all of the discontent to be reported when discontent is ... Racial Diversity And Diversity Diversity is permanently entrenched in American culture and with a better understanding of other cultures people can come to a place of collaboration and cooperation with one another. Looking back on what all I have learned in this course, the most important realization I had was just how white washed the scientific community really is. When civil rights issues were in full swing, there was a myriad of white researchers who were attempting to prove the inferiority of other races especially African Americans. Paper after paper delineating all of the physical differences and potential mental differences between African Americans and Caucasians simply to bolster their own inaccurate sense of superiority reveals the darker side of research and scientific exploration (Guthrie, 2004). Several of the issues we discussed in class were ones I was at least somewhat aware of and had been informed about in some sense or another. One of the surprising pieces of information was the health disparity between Caucasians and minorities. Logically speaking this disparity makes sense since when there is such a wide wage gap between these two groups one could assume this would have an effect on the health of those in question as well. The Current Pressurized Oxygen Tension Based Indices Response In this thesis, I have attempted to further explore the nature of the current utilised oxygen tension based indices response, with a view to its use as a tool to assess the pulmonary oxygenation in critically ill patients. Furthermore, this thesis developed a new index to assess pulmonary oxygenation. This topic was explored with external pulmonary factors to quantify oxygenation defect through a maze of mathematics, different diseases, and pathophysiology. There was one or two ways that could lead us to the answer and many dead end routes. Ultimately, the research produced an equation that was more robust than the PaO2/FiO2 ratio in terms of less variation. The first chapter described two different types of oxygen indices and its use. The second chapter described the medical simulator in general and the Nottingham Physiology Simulator (NPS) in particular. In chapter three, we examined the variation of certain oxygen indices with changes in the following external physiological factors (FIO2, Hb, RQ, and VO2) without changing the pulmonary configuration status. This investigation was done with ARDS simulated patients using a validated NPS model. The study demonstrates that the external physiological factors induced a remarkable variation in comparing to oxygen indices, and the use of each index depends on the type of the external physiological factors. Human Trafficking Through A Feminist Theoretical Perspective Human Trafficking Through a Feminist Theoretical Perspective Feminist Theory It s unfortunate that when some people hear the term feminism, they automatically place that as a negative word and it becomes something they don t want to be associated with. It is unfortunate that people will try to avoid it however, people will still embrace the feminist politics. As feminist scholar Susan A. Mann (2012) describes, when people refuse to identify as a feminist they create the I m not a feminist but syndrome. This refers to when people understand the importance of struggles with gender issues, such that include the wage gap or domestic violence, but they will still reject the notion that it may actually mean they are a feminist if they are fighting for that cause. Feminism has a simple definition, it means that women seek gender equality through political, social, and economic gain. Feminist theory is directed to the understanding of women s lives, struggles, and how we can improve those areas of struggles for women. Theory has become a significant part to the feminist community, because it gives feminists the opportunity to discuss the issues in a manner where they feel liberated, and could service as a healing function (bell hooks, 1994). • 31. Justification of Brutus’ Betrayal of William ShakespeareÂŽs... In William Shakespeare s tragedy Julius Caesar, the character of Marcus Brutus is tasked with making a difficult choice: either kill one of his most beloved friends, or risk the corruption and downfall of Rome. Though Brutus acknowledges the ethical and moral concerns of his actions, he commits to the conspiracy against Caesar, and carries it out with conviction. The question, however, is whether or not Brutus actions are justifiable from an objective point of view. Unlike most other political assassinations, Brutus isn t a hysterical stranger distraught with the target, but a close ally, and trusted friend. Brutus justifies his own doings by convincing himself and others that they re sacrificing, not murder Caesar, and acting not out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Caesar also states that he has no equals amongst his people, effectively raising himself above his former peers and almost comically making him a target his assassination, which comes shortly after this event. This speech by Caesar gives reason for great concern amongst the Romans, as his attitude an arrogance have reached a critical level, even before taking the reigns as emperor. • 32. The Abolition Of The Brazilian Slaves Essay The Abolition of the Brazilian Slaves Slavery in the Americas started with Christopher Columbus at the end of his first voyage, west of the Atlantic. When Columbus saw the Indians (as he called them) and he thought they would make great servants to overlords in Europe. The author writes, he promised to bring Ferdinand and Isabella as many slaves as they required (Nowara 10). This was a suitable proposition because the lifestyle of slavery was already embedded in the minds of the Europeans during the medieval times. The Portuguese and the Spanish were already using slaves from Africa while Columbus was discovering the Americas and the Caribbean. During sometime between 500 A.D 1500; the Iberian Peninsula became a gateway for slavery after Spanish and Portuguese kingdoms drove out Muslim kingdoms and battled them in the North of Africa. Another place that was conquered by the Portuguese was Morocco and the city of Ceuta which was a strait in the peninsula. Giving the Portuguese control and power of trade routes of gold and slaves. This soon brought the Portuguese west and down Africa coastline. But African slaves was already well known in parts of west and central Africa. The author writes slavery was a well rooted institution in the African societies with which they traded (Nowara 12). It tells the story of when Ichabod Crane is sent to the isolated town of Sleepy Hollow to solve the mystery of the Headless Horseman. The isolated gloomy setting for example, when Ichabod Crane enters the town, the film techniques such as music and lighting such as when the Headless Horseman appears combined with characters that have supernatural powers including Catrina and Lady Van Tassel reinforces the idea that Sleepy Hollow is a gothic horror film. The town of Sleepy Hollow is isolated, dark and gloomy, it also has contains mostly gothic architecture. This is to support the spine chilling atmosphere that Tim Burton has intended in the film. This is to create a theme of fear and panic towards the viewer because the idea of gothic horror is to create a suspenseful, isolated and dark environment in the movie. Police brutality is, therefore, the use of excessive force or even unnecessary force by the police while they are dealing with civilians. People are left wondering if the police are doing the jobs they were appointed to do under the law. They act in ways such as the use of guns and pepper sprays to intimidate civilians, racial profiling, false arrests, severe beatings, unjustified shootings, police corruption and even sexual abuse among others (King). The truth of the matter is that such incidents usually go un noticed and worse of unreported. Police brutality is an issue of contention given that they have the authority to apply force when necessary. Hence, when do we say that police brutality has occurred, what causes it and how do we end it. Currently, there is inadequate report statics of police brutality incidents or complaints. The reason being that there is no requirement that states that any of the law enforcement agencies must report such statistics. Hezbollah, a fundamentalist Shia militant group allied with the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), was one of the major forces fighting against the Lebanese government. (Elton, 2010) adds that because academic writing may defer from discipline to discipline, instructors in schools have a duty to express their expectations of students writing while students on the other hand should act on it. Academic writing is logical The student s work needs to have a introduction, the body and the conclusion. The introduction gives a background to the topic and one could include interesting facts and quotations. It is important to outline the main ideas that are in the body. The student then discusses the main points in the body. This is done in paragraphs which should be well structured to give a coherent argument. The conclusion is the final paragraph and must briefly summarise every idea discussed in the body. Other s works Academic writing builds on what others have done on the same subject. A student therefore needs to base his work on his own ideas as well as what others have done and thought about, however, students should take care not to get lost in another scholar s voice but should instead incorporate the information so as to maintain the novelty of his argument. (Hampton, 2014) states that another scholar s work should be fully acknowledged by accurate citation. Academic writing is objective Academic writing is objective (A. Since it is such a widespread religion there are many types of interpretations that can be developed based off the words and teachings of the Bible. Most commonly we have the normative view of Christianity. The normative view can most basically be understood as the highly shared teachings of churches. Another type of interpretation that encompasses all beliefs that are not compliant with the normative view is called esoteric. Here we will compare the interpretations of Daskalos, the Great Teacher of Cypress, and his Researchers of Truth against the normative view of Christianity as understood by both Catholics and Protestants. In order to further investigate the differences between Daskalos esoteric beliefs and normative beliefs we must understand fully what esoteric and normative truly mean. A few beliefs of normative Christianity, as explained by Moreman, are as follows: the belief in judgement after death. There are only 2 places to go, hell or heaven and that may or may not be after a slight stop in purgatory, the intermediate state of being right after death where souls await resurrection (Moreman, 62). When the resurrection happens, people will be resurrected in their physical bodies, thanks to interpretations by St. Augustine of Hippo (Moreman, 62). The Epic of Gilgamesh takes place in an ancient Sumerian city of Uruk, which is modern day Iraq. We can take a few things away from this poem about the Sumerians. For one, they have strong beliefs in gods and goddesses and they have a self consciousness of their cultivation with the natural world. The main character of this poem is Gilgamesh, the king of Uruk. Gilgamesh is 1/3rd human and 2/3rds god, incredibly handsome, and is one of the strongest humans. Ultimately Gilgamesh is the most powerful man of his time, which allows him to exploit women and wear out the city. Gilgamesh s power started to irritate the people and they needed someone who would be able to stand up to him. Hence, the goddess, Aruru, created Enkidu, Gilgamesh s frenemy turned loyal companion.
