I Heard A Fly Buzz-When I Died By Emily Dickinson
Emily Dickinson s carefully thought out poem, I heard a Fly buzz when I died, discusses how
death is an inevitable experience that everyone faces. Dickinson is a well known poet for writing
about death and topics relating to death. The set up of the poem conveys an atmosphere in which
someone dies. A simple fly s buzzdisrupts this quiet and heavy atmosphere surrounding the person s
deathbed which causes the reader to focus more on the buzzof the fly than the person who is dying.
The speaker is coming to terms with the fact that she is dying and tells of how she is giving
away her keepsakes and belongings. Her giving away her belongings conveys that she is ready to
die, however, just as she is about to pass, the fly interrupts again. The fly is a seemingly small,
irrelevant bug, but in this poem, it becomes the focal point to show that deathcan be
inconsequential. The speaker of this poem recounts her last moments before death experiencing
many emotions such as loneliness, calmness, and stress. These emotions make the speaker
notice the insignificant aspects surrounding her in the room causing her to realize that death is
not an extraordinary experience. Dickinson s effective use of symbolism helps create an
atmosphere in which the speaker is able to perceive her death in different ways. The Stillness in
the Room was like the Stillness in the Air between the Heaves of Storm, is symbolism for how
the atmosphere in the room was so still when the speaker died (2 4). The moments before death
are like the calm between a storm, and even though there is no rain in between a storm, the
atmosphere is still heavy just as how the room is when the speaker died. Once the speaker died,
she was able to notice how quiet the room was, and she perceived how different the atmosphere
was from before she died too after her death. As the poem starts to build up, Dickinson mentions
that a King is coming to the speaker s death, which is either death itself or in reference to a
religious figure. In line seven, For that last Onset when the King Be witnessed in the Room, the
King seems to be approaching her as she dies, and if the King is God, then God could be coming
to take the speaker into the afterlife(7 8).

The Future Of Life Chapter 1 Summary
The Future of life, written by Edward O. Wilson, developed a novel with a plethora of ideas,
theories, and problems within in our world today. Wilson breaks down concepts into greater
context which gives the reader in depth description to show the reader a better outlook on issues in
our society today. The author lectures in chapter two, The Bottleneck on how and why the world is
overpopulated. Wilson gives great insight, facts and solutions that will lead into what the future
looks like for an overpopulated world. Wilson begins by opening chapter two with questions
regarding the population shift around the world. Now, increasingly post ideological in temper, we
may be ready to settle down before we wreck the planet (Wilson 28). The author... Show more

Creating two people equal one is the economist and the other is the environmentalist, persevering
together to make this a better sustained world, for every human to live life to the fullest. The
economist is in charge of the production and consumption of the area, explaining the wants and
needs. Thinking of the bigger picture, everything is production and consumption. Plants use
nutrients from the ground and sunlight to give off oxygen, which we inhale to live. Animals eat
nutrients, so we as a society can eat them. Farmers clear fields to grow crops for us to stay
healthy with vegetables and fruits. The economist parameters are the gross domestic product,
trade balance, and competitive index (Wilson 29). Meaning the economist would pair with the
environmentalist to make and sustain a better living headquarters for us to thrive as a planet. The
environmentalist job would be such to work with ecosystems, crop fields and water supplies. The
environmentalist would make sure crops are functioning correctly. Having our wildlife in check
and to not have overpopulated species running wild. Taking control of our water sources, and will
serve very well for now and in the future. Most important job of the two, economist and
environmentalist is make sure we have the resources for living on planet earth. This would not stop
the overpopulation era that we are experiencing right now throughout the world. Yet it would help

Managing The Merger And Acquisition Process
John (1999) said that one of the biggest problems faced by those managing the merger and
acquisition process. The world of business has transform from an industrial to an intellectual basis,
and while those managing M A s are still busy studying all the old parameters, they are missed out
all the new important point.
In the industrial stage the primary assets responsible for creating wealth in the organization were
tangible (Li, 2011). In the new intellectual stage intangible assets are a new primary driver of
wealth. Unfortunately, most of the Merger Acquisition managers ignores the function of intangible
assets.

Enhancing Quality Strategic Decisions for the Government...
Currently the government of Uganda is being accused by the the development partners for not
setting their priorities right especially in the health sector. Discuss some of the qualitative and
quantitative techniques that can be adopted to enhance quality strategic decisions.
Not more than 5pages
Solution
In resource limited settings there prevails unending situations of resource scarcity. This poses
difficulties to governments especially when it comes to considering national priorities in the
process of resource allocation. Taking it down to the health sector, there intra sector challenges
faced when it comes to which sub sector is prioritised for funding. However, effective and
intentional resource allocation is a backbone to functional and impactful national health policies
and hence health system performance. Yet, in the context of making decisions between competing
claims on scarce health service resources, economic tools and thinking have much to offer [1].
Evidence based public health is one of the concepts that need to be embraced. Priority setting and
hence strategic policy and programmatic decisions for the health sector is an area of growing
interest in public health practice. Based on the premise of resource scarcity in health care,
numerous approaches to priority setting have been proposed [1].
Priority setting research in health economics has traditionally employed quantitative methodologies
and been informed by post positivist philosophical assumptions about

Bill Fontana is an internationally reputable composer and pioneering American sound sculptor born
April 25th 1947 in Cleveland, Ohio. Since the mid to late 70 s Fontana has used sound as a
sculptural medium, able to interact and transform our perceptions of visual and architectural spaces.
Fontana is constantly engaged with the idea that at any moment there will be something musical to
hear in the coherent soundpatterns around him. His sound sculptures use the human or natural
environment surrounding as a living source of musical information, often creating multiple
networks of live listening points that relay real time acoustics to a common listening place or
sculptural site. All of Fontana s works produced over the years experiment with process of listening,
recording, relocating and representing found sound patterns. Through discussion of his works and
the process undertaken in his listening for different found sound, the technologies used in recording
and relaying of these sounds to site, and the sites themselves through his works can be seen to
complicate the idea of medium within his practice.
Links from Fontana s background can be seen to have influence upon the development of his

The Post War Era
The zeitgeist of the post war era was change, encompassing both personal, social and political
transformation explored by composer s experimentation with form and subject matter. The
dominant discourse of power during the Cold War was the ideological conflict between Capitalism
and Communism. The dominant ways of thinking were profoundly challenged by the emergence
of an alternative, youth driven culture. A composer s disillusionment with the world in the After
the Bomb period acted as a catalyst for them to not only challenge ways of thinking but also the
traditional form of literature. The era saw widespread criticism of government systems and of the
military industrial complex as hegemonic ideas about America were being questioned. There was a
widespread perception that society had lost touch with the cornerstone of American values and
pillars of democracy and it was the role of the writers, filmmakers and poets to recapture its
emphasis on idealism rights and liberty and challenge the world that rejected these ideals. The texts
which challenged the values and ways of thinking of the time coupled with their exploration of
universal themes and the victims perspective enables these texts to continue to hold enormous
significance and influence in today s society. Accordingly a sense of discomfort pervades
confronting texts of the era as composers experiment with subject matter by amplifying humanity s
growing dissension with towards the values and ideas that shaped

The narrator speaks throughout the short story about her dreams and how exciting they are. In
many of her dreams she s the bold courageous hero; rescuing civilians, galloping on a horse, and
fighting wolves. However, as the story progresses her dreams take a different turn, A story might
start off in the old way then things would change around, and instead, somebody would be rescuing
me. It might be a boy from our class at school, or even Mr. Campbell, our teacher, who tickled

distress trope is damaging to young girls and all women. It overused in society; movies, stories,
and novels. It greatly affects the minds of women, making them believe that they can t be the
hero and that they ll always run into trouble or be kidnapped etc and have a strong male figure
come to their rescue. The young girl has also begun noticing and tending to, her appearance. She
has become more in touch with her feminine side. Lately I had been trying to make my part of
the room fancy We did not sing at night any more. One night when I was singing Laird said, You
sound silly, and I went right on but the next night I did not start (Munro). She has changed from
the tomboy she once was. Becoming more and more feminine. This may be influenced by
biological factor such as puberty but it is also influenced by her surroundings. Her mother for
instance is the only other women in the household, she sets the example for the young girl. Her

The Incorporation Of Music In The Middle Ages
Music has always been apart of my life ,from the tender age of six years old we have ever been
apart. The art form of musical arts will forever intrigue me and compel me to push myself to my
musical limit. The history of the evolution of music through the centuries is quite alluring. The
formulation of musical intellectually concepts and leaps of faith that composers at the time took, is
in my opinion of standing ovation recognition.
The development of music from the time line in the middle ages(450 1450) was known for
incorporation of music in the church that was done by the monks. As I listened to the pieces of
music done by the monks, their music known to be Gregorian chant, it really embodies serenity
and the sacred intent for the music. The resonation of the voices compliment the simplicity of the
monophonic arrangement of the chant. The use of the male voices gives a richness in texture to
the chant.Later on in the century there was the incorporation of chants composed by women, that
explore the wider vocal ranges. In my view the musical genius gene was not exclusive to just men

How growth hormone regulate various body functions in adults. The growth hormones mainly
regulate the body functions via feedback loops. The process is a two way mode of
communication whereby the target organ releases molecules that regulate the endocrine. The
feedback loops are mainly concerned with the maintenance of the hormonal concentration within
range. Endocrine disorder can be classified based on the underproduction or excess production of
the hormone (Medical Discoveries, 2011). The growth hormone is mainly produced from the
brain and it stimulates insulin like factor (IGF 1). It also mediates the actions of HGH which
regulates variety of biological activities including cellular division, development of the body,
overall growth and metabolism. It also plays an important role in body composition, bone and
muscle strength. The growth hormones play an important role in adults because growth factors

Essay on Education Policy in Michigan
An outdated education system is the largest problem Michigan faces because it affects not only
the present, but also the future of the state. Important issues cannot be solved, nor policies created
to remedy them, if the people attempting to solve them are not equipped with the skills and
knowledge needed to make informed decisions. The state cannot run itself, let alone the nation as a
whole, if its people are uneducated. The Constitution, the very basis of our government, relies
heavily on the assumption that citizens of the United States are able to make knowledgeable and
well reasoned decisions, the types of which cannot be made when a person does not receive a
proper education. This proper education is unattainable when low... Show more content on

After several years of success, the required cuts along with economic woes rendered Proposal A
largely ineffective and unable to properly fund Michigan s schools, creating a massive problem
in the way Michigan school districts are to be funded, as well as developing a need for new
educational policy to supplement or overhaul Proposal A and the Michigan educational system.
The educational funding problem in Michigan takes root back in 1809, when the first public
school was founded. While funding was not an issue at the time, the way schools were funded
through local property taxes eventually created a large problem. Fast forward to 1985,
Michigan has long moved past the rural cities of the 1800 s and into affluent suburbs and cities.
The size and taxation pools of cities have greatly changed from 1809 to 1985, but the way
schools were funded remained exactly the same. This lack of change led to a large disparity in
school funding from richer districts to poorer districts. Coupled together with local governments
inability to convince citizens to vote in favor of millages and tax hikes, the disparity ballooned. In
1993, Bloomfield Hills ranked in the 99th percentile of Michigan schools, was spending on average
$10,294 per student, while Standish Sterling ranked in the bottom 1st percentile, spent $3,738 per
student, roughly a $6,500 difference per student (Roy 2003). This inconsistency greatly
disadvantaged students all the way to 95th percentile, where there

Edelstein The Great Terror Summary
The Terror s Origins The nation of France following the approval of the rights of man was a
country in great turmoil. The popular revolution had received what they had so desired, that being a
constitutional monarchy with a set of bylaws that would both protect the people of France and
hinder the power of the monarch. A second revolution would take center stage and hijack the
revolution and push for more radical ideas and push for the stern punishment of the king and those
around him following his flight. The aspect of the revolution that would have the most profound
impact on both the nation and the terror, would be that of the Jacobin clubcoming into power in
France. The collimation of both Jacobin ideals and having the power to institute these ideas would

Edelstein points to the new government as being the culprits to terror, which is best stated as It
remains to be explained why the Jacobins unceasingly widened their circle of hostility, from the

approved institutional violence against those suspected enemies as stated Instead of preserving the
rights and lives of the many, natural right enabled and encouraged State violence to occur on a

Speech On Lasik Surgery

but before that I have a quote here which fit on my topic, We have hearing aids in order to fix our

let me start, what comes into your mind when you hear the word lasik? So basically lasik means
an eye correct vision which needs a laserto reshape the inner cornea. There are three types of eye
conditions, the nearsighted, farsighted and astigmatism. So first let us know the nearsighted or
(myopia), basically means that people who are nearsighted they can t clearly see a text or a thing
that is too far from them and they need to move closer in that certain area, nearsighted people
usually experiencing blur vision when they are far well they can read it but then the text itself
will turn into a blur one. It can be a common cause of having a blur vision. So here is a sample
picture of myopia. The second is farsighted or (hyperopia), basically means that people who are
farsighted they are unable to see things clearly they can see it but it needs to have a good distance

Invisible Man Meaning
What does it mean to be invisible? To have your voice silenced, your identity stripped away from
you, to have to answer to somebody who makes decisions for you? Through the power of learning
the truth in several forms of literature, it is apparent that there has been an agenda. A dominant
power structure has tried to put the African American community in a box, limit our
accomplishments and use us as means to justify an end. Ralph Ellison touched on racerelations and
what it truly means to be an African American in his classic book Invisible Man, but the title has
such a deeper meaning than what you see on the surface. In the grander scheme of things, the title
means to have no sense of identity or culture, tying into the much bigger problem... Show more

We come from a culture that does not exist to the upper echelon of society and we are not
expected to climb any further than what we are allowed to. Booker T. Washington s Atlanta
Exposition Address shows that assimilation is just as dangerous to the black mentality as not
embracing your culture at all. The address shows pride in being second class, an unsettling
hunger for trying to reach the glass ceiling without ever breaking it. Washington s belief is that It
is at the bottom of life we must begin, and not at the top. After years of being taken advantage of
by the system, this is a Stockholm Syndrome style mentality designed to keep African Americans
down for as long as possible. Washington overlooks the fact that black people have done what they
needed to throughout history to gain respect and it has never worked. White people never look at
black pride or black interests as positive, and assimilation allows them to ground blacks and keep
them without a true identity, keep them under an oppressive thumb and keep them not knowing
about their true mental gifts. As Washington states, No race can prosper till it learns that there is as
much dignity in tilling a field as in writing a poem. Preached this way, this man actively encourages
African Americans to remain stuck in a devastating mentality that could have wiped out the race a

Essay on The Symbolism of the Piano in The Piano
The Symbolism of the Piano in The Piano
The piano has been inextricably linked with the roles and expectations of women in British
society since its advent in the mid 1700s to the late 1800s when rising standards of living made
it more accessible to middle class society. Pianos were regarded as secure icons of social distinction
1 and a wife was viewed similarly as a possession of privatization, success and respectability. 2
Pianos were instrumental in both reinforcing gender roles and as delineators of class distinction
thus perpetuating the class system. 3
While concentrating primarily on Ada, this essay will discuss the symbolism of the piano in The
Piano expressed through the relationship with each of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The piano is in fact an extension of herself and this connection is emphasised by the fact that the
longest gaze in the film is given not to a man looking on a woman but to a woman gazing on a
supposedly inanimate object. This gaze emphasises the isolation that she herself feels at this
moment.
Literature is strewn with references to pianos 6 and its feminine characteristics make it an
obvious symbol of the vulnerability and treatment of women. It assumes a feminine role in The
Piano. Men of both cultures treat it roughly: Maori manhandle it through the bush, and thump
unmusically on it when it is moved to Stewart s house; Stewart keeps time coarsely on its frame
as Flora plays for him. Baines acquaintances too, clearly regard it as unmanly to learn to play the
piano. The physicality of the piano and its connection to Ada s body is emphasised on many
occasions by both Ada and Baines: by Baines who bargains parts of Ada s piano in return for
parts of her body he is given permission to touch and see and who, in Ada s absence, strips naked
to delicately and lovingly dust the piano; by Ada writing on the A key Ada loves George ; and
when barricaded into the house by Stewart and cannot see Baines in person, she removes a key
(G) from the piano and inscribes on it Dear George, you have my heart. Ada McGrath. .

The Downfall Of Sophocles Oedipus The King

Date: 09 October, 2015 The Downfall of Oedipus In Sophocles Oedipus the King, the topics of
fate and free will are exceptionally solid all through the play and. Both focuses could be
contended to extraordinary impact. In old Greece, fate was thought to be a simple piece of
everyday life. Each part of life depended and was based upon fate. It is nature conviction to accept
that humankind does in reality have Free will and every individual can choose the result of his or
her life. All Oedipus actions are given to him by God So, fate and free will control his downfall.
Oedipus the King is an anecdote around a noticeable ruler torn by Destiny and the impact his own
behavior has upon his fate. We can gain much from the disastrous story of Oedipus, why he
unknowingly murders his dad, and to wed and has youngsters with his own mom. When Oedipus
is educated of this prescience, he tries urgently to escape it by running from the place where he
grew up and notwithstanding staying away from his assumed folks. In spite of the fact that he
may not understand it, Oedipus own particular activities add to his Downfall; it is his egotistical
irritability and his extreme pride that makes him settle on the choices that set the course of
occasions that lead him to his own fate, as well as to the fate he was attempting so urgently to
avoid. In spite of the way

A Basic Understanding Of Network Competencies Essay
A basic understanding of network competencies is necessary to succeed in most technology fields
and it is a foundational requirement for roles that deal directly with network communications. In
today s connected world of the cloud, apps that depend on internet connectivity, and even
thermostats that can have their temperature set across the internet, the need to understand how
networking works is expanding beyond the traditional roles of Network Administrators, Network
Engineers, and information security professionals to developers, systems administrators, analysts,
and support personnel. A fundamental understanding of networking is necessary to succeed in most
technology jobs. Two such jobs are the Systems Administrator and the Systems Analyst, which
have different training and educational requirements. While much of the Systems Administrator s
job revolves around network related tasks, they also spend a lot of time on servers, software
systems, databases, and storage. Systems Administrators can be responsible for networking and
most of what they do depends on the network, the majority of their time is spent on Servers,
software systems like Active Directory or databases, applications, and storage. Most mid to large
organizations will have at least one dedicated Network Administrator or Network Engineer. The
Systems Analyst job has a much wider skill set, but it also includes some knowledge of computer
networking. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics website,

Why Do Asylum Seekers Enter Australia Essay
Ask yourself this, if we were on a plane and it broke down with everyone being stuck on an

We do not get to decide whether or not their life can be here but we do get a say about it! So let s

Aziz Choudry Fight Back Analysis
Beginning a new life is not easy. Migrants who yearn for refuge, hope and prosperity often select
Canada for its proudly proclaimed multicultural society given its abundance of opportunities.
However, many are left deeply disappointed. Aziz Choudry et al. endeavours to expose the stark
untold reality awaiting many Canadian migrants who long for an improved life. Fight Back;
Workplace Justice for Immigrants provides a comprehensive overview detailing the endless
adversities surrounding employment, social discrimination and exploitation, vividly accented by
the very migrants battling at the forefront.
Fight Back commences with a broad historical analysis examining the implications of unscrupulous
neoliberal tactics. Neo liberalism, defined by the author as the underlying backbone of intensified
political policies on multiculturalism, employment, and immigration coupled with increasing
privatization is largely to blame for the rise of precarious work in Canada. The author theorizes a
capitalist restructuring of Canadian politics in the 1970s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

fact that in the book all Fugui s family dies, including Jiazhen and Kugen. The ending of the

enlightened. The sorrow ending of his life can also be treated by Fugui as a way of hope. Wu Weiis
interpreted in the book through the idea of simplicity in Fugui s life. At the beginning of the
book, Fugui even attempted to kill himself when he lost all his family money from gambling;
however, at the end, after experiencing loss of family, wealth and friends, he finally understood

This summer during May and June, I attended the internship at a company named Focus on Fur
Animal Wellness and Massage, which is owned by a certified small animal massage practitioner.
We both love animals such as dogs and cats and we both keep a dogat home. Our common points
made us feel connected with each other that we had so many topics especially for dogs to talk
about. In addition, the job contents were mostly related to dogs, which attracted me and made
me want to explore more knowledge in this field. I was responsible for multiple tasks during this
internship, since the company was a small start up company that provided me the opportunity to
handle almost everything that a company needs at the preliminary stage. Before my internship,
I had no real direction of a particular position that I would like to pursue as my future career
goal. I was trying to find an opportunity in which I could gain some working experience as well
as put on my resume. Looking back now, an internship with various tasks helps me realize what I
am willing to do and which aspect I am better with. On the other hand, contrary to the experience
of completing an internship at a standard large firm, this internship allowed me to be more
creative and bold to make decisions instead of doing some fixed tasks with strict rules. My

The Analysis On Ephesians Prefacing The Book The Bible ...
In the ESV study bible, the authors wrote an excerpt on Ephesians prefacing the author, title, date,
background information, and a description of the ancient city of Ephesus. Relating to the author of
Ephesians all scholars believed that Paul wrote the letter, until recent times where many scholars
propose that an imitator or a follower of Paul wrote the letter. The scholars give two reasons for this
theory, the first is the letter s style does not represent Pauline thought, and the second being the
authors unfamiliarity with the recipients. In contrast, some scholars say there is ample proof of
Pauline authorship; the first reason is the letter explicitly claims to be Paul s in Ephesians 1:1 and
3:1, and the second reason subsists in more analysis of the text and that it is similar to other Pauline
texts. The final argument for Pauline authorship is the forcefulness of the author s speech
mentioned in Ephesians 4:15, and verse 25. In these two verses, the argument that the author is
unfamiliar with the audience stands debunked because the author commands of them and the
author addresses the unity they all possess. Secondly, an important historical component for
understanding the context of Ephesians is to know the date it is written and background
information of why Paul wrote the letter. Scholars suggest that Paul wrote Ephesians in 62 AD
when he was under house arrest in Rome, this conclusion comes from Paul mentioning his
imprisonment in Ephesians 3:1, 4:1, and 6:20.

Despite his inexperience at living off the land, Chris Mccandless managed to survive in the
Alaskan wilderness for a time. His adventures across the United States contributed to honing his
skills at surviving with inadequate supplies, little money, and few essential tools. Unfortunately
This was not enough, and his inexperience on the finer points of outdoor living and general
knowledge of particular subjects proved to create more challenges, and finally this inexperience
killed him. Particularly, with his successful kill of a moose we see a perfect example of his
ignorance, Then on June 9, he bagged the biggest prize of all: MOOSE! (166.) His tendency to

Overjoyed, the proud hunter took a photograph of himself kneeling over his trophy, rifle

Another way that Coach Norman Dale encouraged confidence in his followers was by keeping
them focused on their present task and familiarizing each one of them with their particular job
on the court. It is important to mention some of the characters such as Jimmy, the shooter, and
the teacher (Myra Fleeter). Jimmy is one of the best players in the team but he rejects to play
with new coach. Therefore, coach needs to find a way to bring him back to the team. He uses
reverse psychology in the situation when he explains Jimmy that team is all of them, not just
him . Here coach shows expert power because he uses prior knowledge probably from previous
situations in his life. When we talk about the shooter and his relationship with the coach, we can
say that coach chooses the shooter for his assistant for several reasons. Firs of all, the shooter
knows a lot about basketball so he shows the expert power. Also, Coach Dale gives him another
chance because people deserve another chance . Also, some other people have previously put
their trust in him by giving him, Coach Dale, a second chance. In the case of Myra Fleener, it
can be said that she displays a very autocratic leadership style. She attempts to lead Coach
Norman Dale with a firm hand with very little input. She pretends to ignore and put off what the
coach has to say, but towards the end of the film she takes Norman s side and adjusts her
leadership style to a more democratic view. She agrees with the coach that

lab 1 interreach variability Essay
Interreach variability and correlation analyses between biotic and abiotic factors of the Old Chelsea
stream
BIO2129 Section

Department of Biology
Hypotheses
Water quality parameters such as pH, dissolved oxygen, seston, water temperature etc. are important
variables in the abundance and diversity of benthic macroinvertebrates of the Old Chelsea stream.
Therefore, it can be hypothesized that pH and dissolved oxygen have a direct correlation on biotic
factors within the stream. Furthermore, due to the surface water velocity variations of the stream, it
is hypothesized that water pH and dissolved oxygen interreach variability is statistically significant.
Results
Note that for figures 1 and 2, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In figure 2, we observe that dissolved oxygen levels are higher in site 2 compared to site 1 and
that variations within the same site are rather small. Lastly, both figure 1 and figure 2 show
slightly higher elevations of both pH and dissolved oxygen at the 3rd location of sampling. In
figure 3, we observe a significant correlation between pH and Simpson s Diversity Index where
it can be noted that the higher the level of pH, the higher the diversity index. In figure 4, we
observe an unsupported correlation between pH and total taxa. Henceforth, total taxa does not
depend on pH levels. In figure 5, an unsupported correlation between is observed between
dissolved oxygen and Simpson s Diversity Index. In figure 6, an unsupported correlation is
observed between dissolved oxygen and total taxa. As in figure 4, it can be concluded from these
observations that total taxa does not depend on dissolved oxygen levels in the water. In figure 7, it
is observed that the percent relative abundance of taxa at site 1 does not share a particular link with
the percent relative abundance of taxa at site 2. Furthermore, different taxa are shown to be
dominant for both sites. Ephemeroptera and Odonata are the only taxa shared by both sites
according to this figure. In table 1, the most prominent statistical conclusion was failure to reject the
null hypothesis, that the variability of abiotic factors (pH and dissolved oxygen)

The Role Of Violence In Early 20th Century Literature
Violence seems so intrinsic to history individuals appear desensitized to the implications of subtle,
vicious, or aggressive physical violence. Can we challenge emotional reactions or do transcendent
principles guide human behavior to justify violence with reason? In early 20th century literature,
violent and hostile acts were fundamental to a protagonist s resolution; authors used this theme to
illustrate the prevalence of evil and question the effects on society when violencewas tolerated.
These works profoundly impacted the overall societal view on the implication of violence as evil.
Contributed to raising consciousness as well as help change the perpetual discrimination at the time.

loves you. Come with your child (Chopin 424). Desiree confronts Armand one last time and

s own internalized racism and the perpetual discrimination at the time facilitated his ability to
renounce his clam to marriage and fatherhood. Desiree having a child of the ethnicity Armand
helped keep violently and cruelly enslaved would reveal detrimental to her murder suicide.
Furthermore, what is more tragically revealing is the later unveiling of Armand s true ethnicity
from a letter written by his mother. Armand had hidden away a remnant letter written from his
mother to his father stating, night and day, I thank the good God for having so arranged our lives
that our dear Armand will never know that his mother who adores him, belongs to the race that is
cursed with the brand of slavery (Chopin 425). Armand is aware of his ethnic background, still to
avoid any accountability due to the perpetual societal discrimination at the time he cruelly and
viciously blames Desiree to

Acute Stroke
The initial signs of acute stroke on nonenhanced CT are subtle but signs that may be visible
would include: loss of distinction between white and grey mater, hypodensities in the brain
parenchyma, loss of appearance of sulcal markings on surface of the brain and obscured
delineation of basel ganglia. The presence of hyerdensity in a main artery may imply thrombus
in a main cerebral artery. In the absence of contrast this sign has a high specificity but a low
sensitivity for middle cerebral artery occlusion. Overall a nonenhanced CT brain in acute stroke
has a sensitivity as low as 26%. If more than 30% of the distribution of the middle cerebral artery
shows evidence of acute strioke thrombolysis is contraindicated. The Alberta Stroke Program Early
CT Score ( ASPECTS) can be used to categorise patients as suitable or not for thrombolysis. In this

This has the effect to produce contrast between vascular structures and surrounding soft tissues.
Depending on the timing of imaging after IV injection arteries veins or soft tissues are
highlighted. For the purposes of acute evaluation of stroke as is described above an initial non
contrats CT scan is performed , followed immediately afterwards by a CT angiogram to evaluate
vascular structures from aortic arch to the vertex. This technique is very accurate for diagnosing
occlusion of any of the cerebral arteries be they intracranial or extracranial. It will also diagnose
the presence of stenosis or dissection of the carotid arteries or middle cerebral arteries. From these
images reconstructions of intracranial and extracranial cerebral arteries can be made. A contrast
enhanced cerebral angiogram is essential for the planning of thrombectomy as it will provide
precise anatomy of cerebral arteries, any stenosis or thrombus in each

Interaction with the Web site
A retailer s Web site is the primary contact point in an online transaction, where customers can
ascertain a great deal of information about an organization s attention to detail and emphasis on
customer satisfaction. If a Web site is hard to use and visually distracting, customers will often
switch to another retailer that makes the shopping experience easier. Five attributes influence how
customers evaluate the quality of their Web site interactions.
Ease of Use When customers access a retailer s Web site, they often find that no formal instructions
are provided. Instead, online retail settings frequently require customers to learn by doing. This
means that a Web site must be extremely intuitive and easy to use, regardless of how much
computer experience a customer has. In an online setting, customers associate ease of use with
freedom from significant mental effort.3 One of the strengths of online retailing endless shelf space
can quickly turn into a weakness if a Web site is difficult to use. Customers want easy to use search
engines that allow them to find products quickly. For instance, Amazon.comInc. has a wide variety

Essay about Effect of Media Violence on Children
Effect of Media Violence on Children
The children of today are surrounded by technology and entertainment that is full of violence. It is
estimated that the average child watches from three to five hours of television a day! Listening to
music is also a time consuming pastime among children. With all of that exposure, one might pose
the question, How can seeing so much violence on television and video games and hearing about
violence in in music affect a child s behavior? Obviously these media have a big influence on
childrens behavior: we can see it in the way they attempt to emulate their favorite rock stars by
dressing in a similar style and the way children play games, imitating their favorite cartoon

14), and Ice Cube, who goes on trial next month on charges of shooting a man to death at a
bowling alley (AP Nov. 11), are seen as heroes to a lot of children. Most people would agree that
they are not very good role models and that the lyrics that they write promoting shooting
policeman and raping women can have a negative affect on children s behavior. However, there
are examples of music having a positive influence on kids are also prevalent. The girl rap group
Salt N Pepa, who are often categorized according to their sexual image, also project an image of
feminine strength. Cheryl James, a.k.a Salt, said, We get compliments from women like, You
inspired me to get out of an abusive relationship. It makes me feel good about what I do (AP
Nov. 5). There is also some good examples of music, which brings a more positive feeling to the
group. An example of this can be heard in the animaniacs compact disk.
Television
Television is especially influential on the children of today. Thirty years ago, not every home had
a television; they were considered a luxury that only the rich could afford. Now, most households
have two televisions and children watch them incessantly. Many children s programs are
extremely violent and a child can learn violent behavior from watching these programs. For
example, about a month ago, in Norway, a small girl was beaten, stripped, and left to die by three
boys aged 5, 6, and 6. When asked why

  • 2. I Heard A Fly Buzz-When I Died By Emily Dickinson Emily Dickinson s carefully thought out poem, I heard a Fly buzz when I died, discusses how death is an inevitable experience that everyone faces. Dickinson is a well known poet for writing about death and topics relating to death. The set up of the poem conveys an atmosphere in which someone dies. A simple fly s buzzdisrupts this quiet and heavy atmosphere surrounding the person s deathbed which causes the reader to focus more on the buzzof the fly than the person who is dying. The speaker is coming to terms with the fact that she is dying and tells of how she is giving away her keepsakes and belongings. Her giving away her belongings conveys that she is ready to die, however, just as she is about to pass, the fly interrupts again. The fly is a seemingly small, irrelevant bug, but in this poem, it becomes the focal point to show that deathcan be inconsequential. The speaker of this poem recounts her last moments before death experiencing many emotions such as loneliness, calmness, and stress. These emotions make the speaker notice the insignificant aspects surrounding her in the room causing her to realize that death is not an extraordinary experience. Dickinson s effective use of symbolism helps create an atmosphere in which the speaker is able to perceive her death in different ways. The Stillness in the Room was like the Stillness in the Air between the Heaves of Storm, is symbolism for how the atmosphere in the room was so still when the speaker died (2 4). The moments before death are like the calm between a storm, and even though there is no rain in between a storm, the atmosphere is still heavy just as how the room is when the speaker died. Once the speaker died, she was able to notice how quiet the room was, and she perceived how different the atmosphere was from before she died too after her death. As the poem starts to build up, Dickinson mentions that a King is coming to the speaker s death, which is either death itself or in reference to a religious figure. In line seven, For that last Onset when the King Be witnessed in the Room, the King seems to be approaching her as she dies, and if the King is God, then God could be coming to take the speaker into the afterlife(7 8). ... • 8. The Post War Era The zeitgeist of the post war era was change, encompassing both personal, social and political transformation explored by composer s experimentation with form and subject matter. The dominant discourse of power during the Cold War was the ideological conflict between Capitalism and Communism. The dominant ways of thinking were profoundly challenged by the emergence of an alternative, youth driven culture. A composer s disillusionment with the world in the After the Bomb period acted as a catalyst for them to not only challenge ways of thinking but also the traditional form of literature. The era saw widespread criticism of government systems and of the military industrial complex as hegemonic ideas about America were being questioned. There was a widespread perception that society had lost touch with the cornerstone of American values and pillars of democracy and it was the role of the writers, filmmakers and poets to recapture its emphasis on idealism rights and liberty and challenge the world that rejected these ideals. The texts which challenged the values and ways of thinking of the time coupled with their exploration of universal themes and the victims perspective enables these texts to continue to hold enormous significance and influence in today s society. The development of music from the time line in the middle ages(450 1450) was known for incorporation of music in the church that was done by the monks. As I listened to the pieces of music done by the monks, their music known to be Gregorian chant, it really embodies serenity and the sacred intent for the music. The resonation of the voices compliment the simplicity of the monophonic arrangement of the chant. The use of the male voices gives a richness in texture to the chant.Later on in the century there was the incorporation of chants composed by women, that explore the wider vocal ranges. Important issues cannot be solved, nor policies created to remedy them, if the people attempting to solve them are not equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to make informed decisions. The state cannot run itself, let alone the nation as a whole, if its people are uneducated. After several years of success, the required cuts along with economic woes rendered Proposal A largely ineffective and unable to properly fund Michigan s schools, creating a massive problem in the way Michigan school districts are to be funded, as well as developing a need for new educational policy to supplement or overhaul Proposal A and the Michigan educational system. The educational funding problem in Michigan takes root back in 1809, when the first public school was founded. While funding was not an issue at the time, the way schools were funded through local property taxes eventually created a large problem. Fast forward to 1985, Michigan has long moved past the rural cities of the 1800 s and into affluent suburbs and cities. The size and taxation pools of cities have greatly changed from 1809 to 1985, but the way schools were funded remained exactly the same. This lack of change led to a large disparity in school funding from richer districts to poorer districts. Coupled together with local governments inability to convince citizens to vote in favor of millages and tax hikes, the disparity ballooned. In 1993, Bloomfield Hills ranked in the 99th percentile of Michigan schools, was spending on average $10,294 per student, while Standish Sterling ranked in the bottom 1st percentile, spent $3,738 per student, roughly a $6,500 difference per student (Roy 2003). Pianos were regarded as secure icons of social distinction 1 and a wife was viewed similarly as a possession of privatization, success and respectability. 2 Pianos were instrumental in both reinforcing gender roles and as delineators of class distinction thus perpetuating the class system. 3 While concentrating primarily on Ada, this essay will discuss the symbolism of the piano in The Piano expressed through the relationship with each of the ... The piano is in fact an extension of herself and this connection is emphasised by the fact that the longest gaze in the film is given not to a man looking on a woman but to a woman gazing on a supposedly inanimate object. This gaze emphasises the isolation that she herself feels at this moment. Literature is strewn with references to pianos 6 and its feminine characteristics make it an obvious symbol of the vulnerability and treatment of women. It assumes a feminine role in The Piano. Men of both cultures treat it roughly: Maori manhandle it through the bush, and thump unmusically on it when it is moved to Stewart s house; Stewart keeps time coarsely on its frame as Flora plays for him. Baines acquaintances too, clearly regard it as unmanly to learn to play the piano. The physicality of the piano and its connection to Ada s body is emphasised on many occasions by both Ada and Baines: by Baines who bargains parts of Ada s piano in return for parts of her body he is given permission to touch and see and who, in Ada s absence, strips naked to delicately and lovingly dust the piano; by Ada writing on the A key Ada loves George ; and when barricaded into the house by Stewart and cannot see Baines in person, she removes a key (G) from the piano and inscribes on it Dear George, you have my heart. In the ESV study bible, the authors wrote an excerpt on Ephesians prefacing the author, title, date, background information, and a description of the ancient city of Ephesus. Relating to the author of Ephesians all scholars believed that Paul wrote the letter, until recent times where many scholars propose that an imitator or a follower of Paul wrote the letter. The scholars give two reasons for this theory, the first is the letter s style does not represent Pauline thought, and the second being the authors unfamiliarity with the recipients. In contrast, some scholars say there is ample proof of Pauline authorship; the first reason is the letter explicitly claims to be Paul s in Ephesians 1:1 and 3:1, and the second reason subsists in more analysis of the text and that it is similar to other Pauline texts. The final argument for Pauline authorship is the forcefulness of the author s speech mentioned in Ephesians 4:15, and verse 25. In these two verses, the argument that the author is unfamiliar with the audience stands debunked because the author commands of them and the author addresses the unity they all possess. Secondly, an important historical component for understanding the context of Ephesians is to know the date it is written and background information of why Paul wrote the letter. Scholars suggest that Paul wrote Ephesians in 62 AD when he was under house arrest in Rome, this conclusion comes from Paul mentioning his imprisonment in Ephesians 3:1, 4:1, and 6:20. ... • 37. Chris Mccandless And The Alaskan Wilderness For A Time Despite his inexperience at living off the land, Chris Mccandless managed to survive in the Alaskan wilderness for a time. His adventures across the United States contributed to honing his skills at surviving with inadequate supplies, little money, and few essential tools. Unfortunately This was not enough, and his inexperience on the finer points of outdoor living and general knowledge of particular subjects proved to create more challenges, and finally this inexperience killed him. Particularly, with his successful kill of a moose we see a perfect example of his ignorance, Then on June 9, he bagged the biggest prize of all: MOOSE! (166.) His tendency to brashly tackle everything head on with will and determination ultimately led to his demise, Overjoyed, the proud hunter took a photograph of himself kneeling over his trophy, rifle triumphantly overhead, his features distorted in a rictus of ecstasy and amazement. (166.) From McCandless notes and photographs of the kill, we realize that Chris s attempt to preserve the meat was met in vain. June 14: Maggots already! Smoking appears ineffective. Don t know, looks like a disaster. (167.) The moose was so large; to the point that Alex had trouble cutting out the parts of the moose he needed. McCandless spent six days toiling to preserve what he had killed before it spoiled. He butchered the carcass under a thick cloud of flies and mosquitoes. (166.) He rapidly came to discover that the crude meat was spoiling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Leadership and Coach Norman Dale Hoosiers There are several leadership styles represented in the film Hoosiers. This movie brings two different concepts called transactional leadership and transformational leadership. Transactional leadership styles are more concerned with maintaining the normal flow of operations, whereas a transformational leader goes beyond managing the daily tasks for leading their followers to success. Transactional leadership styles also include trying to establish direction, aligning people, they are dedicated to communication, creating teams, motivation and inspiration. A transformational leadership styles basically turn towards to creating the agenda and requests, they are dedicated to planning, policies and procedures. The leader s job ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another way that Coach Norman Dale encouraged confidence in his followers was by keeping them focused on their present task and familiarizing each one of them with their particular job on the court. It is important to mention some of the characters such as Jimmy, the shooter, and the teacher (Myra Fleeter). Jimmy is one of the best players in the team but he rejects to play with new coach. Therefore, coach needs to find a way to bring him back to the team. He uses reverse psychology in the situation when he explains Jimmy that team is all of them, not just him . Here coach shows expert power because he uses prior knowledge probably from previous situations in his life. When we talk about the shooter and his relationship with the coach, we can say that coach chooses the shooter for his assistant for several reasons. Firs of all, the shooter knows a lot about basketball so he shows the expert power. Also, Coach Dale gives him another chance because people deserve another chance . Also, some other people have previously put their trust in him by giving him, Coach Dale, a second chance. In the case of Myra Fleener, it can be said that she displays a very autocratic leadership style. She attempts to lead Coach Norman Dale with a firm hand with very little input. She pretends to ignore and put off what the coach has to say, but towards the end of the film she takes Norman s side and adjusts her leadership style to a more democratic view. She agrees with the coach that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. lab 1 interreach variability Essay Interreach variability and correlation analyses between biotic and abiotic factors of the Old Chelsea stream BIO2129 Section Demonstrators: October 1, 2014 Department of Biology Hypotheses Water quality parameters such as pH, dissolved oxygen, seston, water temperature etc. are important variables in the abundance and diversity of benthic macroinvertebrates of the Old Chelsea stream. Therefore, it can be hypothesized that pH and dissolved oxygen have a direct correlation on biotic factors within the stream. Furthermore, due to the surface water velocity variations of the stream, it is hypothesized that water pH and dissolved oxygen interreach variability is statistically significant. Results Note that for figures 1 and 2, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In figure 2, we observe that dissolved oxygen levels are higher in site 2 compared to site 1 and that variations within the same site are rather small. Lastly, both figure 1 and figure 2 show slightly higher elevations of both pH and dissolved oxygen at the 3rd location of sampling. In figure 3, we observe a significant correlation between pH and Simpson s Diversity Index where it can be noted that the higher the level of pH, the higher the diversity index. In figure 4, we observe an unsupported correlation between pH and total taxa. Henceforth, total taxa does not depend on pH levels. In figure 5, an unsupported correlation between is observed between dissolved oxygen and Simpson s Diversity Index. In figure 6, an unsupported correlation is observed between dissolved oxygen and total taxa. As in figure 4, it can be concluded from these observations that total taxa does not depend on dissolved oxygen levels in the water. In figure 7, it is observed that the percent relative abundance of taxa at site 1 does not share a particular link with the percent relative abundance of taxa at site 2. Furthermore, different taxa are shown to be dominant for both sites. Ephemeroptera and Odonata are the only taxa shared by both sites according to this figure. In table 1, the most prominent statistical conclusion was failure to reject the null hypothesis, that the variability of abiotic factors (pH and dissolved oxygen) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Role Of Violence In Early 20th Century Literature Violence seems so intrinsic to history individuals appear desensitized to the implications of subtle, vicious, or aggressive physical violence. Can we challenge emotional reactions or do transcendent principles guide human behavior to justify violence with reason? In early 20th century literature, violent and hostile acts were fundamental to a protagonist s resolution; authors used this theme to illustrate the prevalence of evil and question the effects on society when violencewas tolerated. These works profoundly impacted the overall societal view on the implication of violence as evil. Contributed to raising consciousness as well as help change the perpetual discrimination at the time. Acute Stroke The initial signs of acute stroke on nonenhanced CT are subtle but signs that may be visible would include: loss of distinction between white and grey mater, hypodensities in the brain parenchyma, loss of appearance of sulcal markings on surface of the brain and obscured delineation of basel ganglia. The presence of hyerdensity in a main artery may imply thrombus in a main cerebral artery. In the absence of contrast this sign has a high specificity but a low sensitivity for middle cerebral artery occlusion. Overall a nonenhanced CT brain in acute stroke has a sensitivity as low as 26%. If more than 30% of the distribution of the middle cerebral artery shows evidence of acute strioke thrombolysis is contraindicated. This has the effect to produce contrast between vascular structures and surrounding soft tissues. Depending on the timing of imaging after IV injection arteries veins or soft tissues are highlighted. For the purposes of acute evaluation of stroke as is described above an initial non contrats CT scan is performed , followed immediately afterwards by a CT angiogram to evaluate vascular structures from aortic arch to the vertex. This technique is very accurate for diagnosing occlusion of any of the cerebral arteries be they intracranial or extracranial. It will also diagnose the presence of stenosis or dissection of the carotid arteries or middle cerebral arteries. From these images reconstructions of intracranial and extracranial cerebral arteries can be made. It is estimated that the average child watches from three to five hours of television a day! Listening to music is also a time consuming pastime among children. With all of that exposure, one might pose the question, How can seeing so much violence on television and video games and hearing about violence in in music affect a child s behavior? However, there are examples of music having a positive influence on kids are also prevalent. The girl rap group Salt N Pepa, who are often categorized according to their sexual image, also project an image of feminine strength. Television Television is especially influential on the children of today. Thirty years ago, not every home had a television; they were considered a luxury that only the rich could afford. Now, most households have two televisions and children watch them incessantly. Many children s programs are extremely violent and a child can learn violent behavior from watching these programs.
