Sample Apa Style Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of "Sample APA Style Essay" can be a challenging task, requiring
a careful balance of content and adherence to specific formatting guidelines. The APA
(American Psychological Association) style is known for its meticulous rules regarding citations,
references, and overall structure. Crafting an essay in this style demands a keen eye for detail
and a thorough understanding of the APA guidelines.
Firstly, one needs to comprehend the intricacies of APA formatting, including the proper
structure of the title page, abstract, main body, and references. Consistency in font, margins, and
spacing is crucial, as even minor deviations can impact the overall quality of the essay.
Additionally, mastering the art of in-text citations and creating a precise reference list according
to APA standards is essential.
Furthermore, the content of the essay should not only meet academic standards but also present
a clear and concise argument or analysis. Balancing the technical aspects of APA style with the
development of a compelling and coherent narrative adds another layer of complexity. It's crucial
to convey thoughts logically while seamlessly integrating citations and maintaining a scholarly
tone.
Research skills play a vital role in an essay of this nature. Sourcing relevant literature, extracting
key information, and properly attributing it within the text are tasks that demand time and
diligence. The challenge lies not only in finding appropriate sources but also in synthesizing
information to construct a well-supported argument.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of "Sample APA Style Essay" is no small feat. It
requires a meticulous approach to formatting, a deep understanding of APA guidelines, effective
research skills, and the ability to weave together information in a cohesive and persuasive
manner. However, for those seeking assistance or looking to save time, it's worth noting that

Gross Domestic Product Changes In The United States
The production of countries is compared to one another based on their gross
domestic product. A country is said to have economic growth if it has an increase
in output. Every quarter of the year, the Bureau of Economic Analysis releases a
GDP estimate on the US. This allows for people to see how the US economy is
doing, how it s changing, and predict how it might change in the future. The reports
for quarter one, two, and three are all out now for 2014 and it is very interesting so
see how the gross domestic productchanges through each quarter. The articles I
picked to summarize and analyze are each about a certain quarter and are in
chronological order. The first article from Forbes.com that is written by Samantha

The Winter Of The West Coast
Water
West:
I was raised on the west coast, so for me, west was literally the direction of water,
because that was the direction we headed when we wanted to see the ocean. Even
now, it makes sense to me to connect west with water. The strongest storms come
from the west through Oklahoma. Rain always seems to come from the west. West is
also the direction of the setting sun, and when at the ocean on the west coast, at
sunset, the sun looks like it is sinking into the water.
Fall:
Autumn is the time of year when the temperature starts to cool. Water doesn t always
have to be cool, but many ancients thought of water as a cool element. Most lakes,
rivers, and oceans are very cold in their natural states. Autumn is also the time of the
year when plants begin to turn inward and prepare for winter. Water is the element
associated with the subconscious, so it makes sense to associate fall with water.
Dusk:
Dusk, the moment of twilight, is when the sun sinks into the water on the west coast,
so it makes sense to associate it with this element. Also, in the evening, many people
come home and rest from the day. It is the time to relax and be ourselves, to turn
inward. In essence, at dusk people do the same things plants do in autumn, and
because water is associated with the subconscious mind, this connection makes sense.
Emotion:
Water is associated with emotions because it is associated with our subconscious
minds. When a person dives into the water they go down deep
Creating The Modern Day Frankenstein By Mary Shelley
Creating the Modern Day Frankenstein
To the rest of the world, 365 represents the amount of days in an entire year.
However, for David Berkowitz, 365 represents the number of years, he is sentenced
to prison. Also known as The Son of Sam , this horrific serial killer brought
mayhem upon the streets of New York, between the years of 1976 and 1977. He was
convicted of multiple murders and still rots behind bars today. Nevertheless, like
Frankenstein s monster himself, Berkowitz was created evil. This is because he was
unwanted throughout his life, his adopted mother passed away from Breast Cancer
and he slowly began to develop multiple mental disorders as he grew into a young
adult.
Berkowitz was born out of wedlock, in Brooklyn on June 1, 1953.
Jocks In Glen Ridge Sports
Most citizens saw so wrong doing in what the guys supposedly did and were all
concerned about the bright future of these guys. From the things that the guys did to
Leslie in her childhood leading up to the trial these things did not raise any alarm to
the parents because their children held the title of jocks and their statues were elite.
Being jocks gave them flexibility when it came to the rules. Lefkowitz (1997)
stated:The fathers and mothers understood the transgressions of jocks because they
had experienced them themselves... Jocks acted boorishly on occasion. Sometimes
jocks were a little more aggressive with girls than good manners permitted... Parents
believed that this behavior fit within the boundaries of boys will be boys. (Loc....

Organization is the corporate aspect of social life the capacity for collective action
(Black, 1976). In this case neither the jocks nor Leslie had such. It was the jocks
parents who dominated in this aspect of the five types of statues. As Lefkowitz
(1997) would describe the parents of Glen Ridge as the backbone it could be
assumed that these parents all shared a strong network with one another with their
children (jocks) as a common factor. With Leslie parents, they were considered to be
outcasts. The judge could have possibly been associated with their network hence a

An Interesting Software Design Technique
3.3DOMAIN DRIVEN ARCHITECTURE
An interesting software design technique to understand and solve complexity is
Domain Driven Design (DDD). Domain Driven Design advocates modeling based on
the reality of business as relevant to our use cases. As it is now getting older and hype
level decreasing, many of us forget that the DDD approach really helps in
understanding the problem at hand and design software towards the common
understanding of the solution. When building applications, DDD talks about
problems as domains and subdomains. It describes independent steps/areas of
problems as bounded contexts, emphasizes a common language to talk about these
problems, and adds many technical concepts, like entities, value objects and
aggregate root rules to support the implementation. Sometimes these technical rules
are perceived as hard barriers implementing the DDD, but at the end, people tend to
forget that the important part is to organize code artifacts in alignment with business
problems and using the same common, ubiquitous language.
Domain modeling helps to identify and separate tangled implementations, if you are
lucky to have a domain model to guide you. If you don t already have a domain
model for an existing application (which is generally true in most cases), instead of
going through the code to understand the different responsibilities, building a domain
model and mapping the capabilities to the application at hand can probably be a
better approach. This will both save

Review Of Michael Crichton s The Andromeda Strain
Over the summer, I read The Andromeda Strain by Michael Crichton. I really enjoyed
this book. Something I noticed though, throughout the book, is that there were a few
Aha moments for the characters when they found or figured out important pieces of
information. One of these moments happened quite early in the story, when the
scientists found the surviving infant and old man in the town of Piedmont, Arizona.
The scientists who made this incredible discovery then had to figure out how and
why those two people had survived a deadly virus while the rest of the town didn t.
The scientists then found what the two survivors had in common and used that
knowledge to stop the strain from spreading rapidly. Another Aha moment I found in

Essay On Showboat
The musical Showboat acted as hammer in 1927 because of its ability to
revolutionize musical theatre by presenting topics such as racism, interracial
romance, and marital heartbreak as well as changing the course of musical theatre.
The topic of interracial marriage was a topic hit early on in the musical. The star
actress on the show boat named Julie La Verne was discovered to be passing as a
white woman even though she actually an African Americanparent. When this issue
was brought up to the sheriff, he felt obligated to confront Julie and Steve about
their crime of miscegenation. It was at this point in the musical that Steve pricked

R V. Buzizi Case Analysis
Reasonable people will generally go a long distance to protect their loved ones.
However, most reasonable people would believe that killing someone else in order
to protect their loved ones would be immoral and harmful. In the case of R v.
Buzizi [2013], a man killed another in a supposed effort to protect his cousin. On an
early morning in MontrГ©al, the accused s cousin and the victim ensued in a brawl.
The initial fight was broken up by a third party. A few moments later, the accused,
Mr. Buzizi, who saw the initial assault from afar, intervened and pushed the victim.
Then, Mr. Buzizi noticed that the victim had an exacto knife, and that his cousin had
a serious wound on his neck. For fear that the victim was going to pull out the... Show

Thus, in order to prove manslaughter through the defense of provocation, the
subjective fault element of second degree murder must not be present. Section 232
(2) of the Criminal Code states that in the case of provocation the accused [acts]
[...] on the sudden and before there [is] time for their passion to cool . This means
that, in order for provocation to exist, the accused must not have had the necessary
guilty knowledge with respect to the course of action they were taking. In Buzizi s
case, this subjective condition for manslaughter is not satisfied, and the subjective
fault element for second degree murder still exists. At trial, the accused revealed
that he had a significant degree of knowledge as to what he was doing during the
altercation. For instance, when the accused testified, he stated that when the victim
tried to pick up the exacto knife after dropping it, this is when he decided to grab
the victim by his sweater and stab him (R v. Buzizi 248 blah 47). This establishes
that Buzizi not only knew precisely what he did to the victim, but it also establishes
that he knew his motivation for doing so, which was that he was afraid of the
potentiality for the victim to attack him with the knife. During his testimony, Buzizi
Pros And Cons Of Payday Lending
To prevent the ban on payday lending in Ohio, FiSCA should pursue a dual strategy
of changing public opinion with borrower stories and supporting a compromise
proposal based on our industry best practices. Changing public opinion is necessary
since the current political environment is anti payday lending. Meanwhile, the current
legislation would not only hurt members, but also sets an unfavorable regulatory
precedent; supporting middle ground regulation would prevent this and build FiSCA
membership.
Proposed house legislation in the state of Ohio would ban payday lending completely.
This comes on the heels of ineffective legislation, a public veto referendum, and a
state Supreme Court case which explain the movement toward increased regulation.

Unlike in the past when we have tried to influence legislators, we would target
borrower stories toward the public. This strategy would start with ad campaigns of
our consumers explaining how payday lending was their only choice and helped
them provide food, water, and housing for themselves and their families in times of
need. Eventually, we would shift the campaign to social media with the goal of
personalizing payday lending for Ohio residents. We know that over one in ten
adults in Ohio use payday loans and have positive experiences, but many in the
public do not recognize this. If someone s cousin, neighbor, or friend were to share
their experience it would be significantly more likely to sway opinions than just
another ad from rich payday lenders.
Swaying public opinion is necessary. The public currently holds an extremely
unfavorable view of the payday lending industry (as demonstrated by the veto
referendum vote), and this low opinion is why the law is even under
consideration. However, we know from our consumer reviews that the majority are
satisfied with their experiences and would use payday loans again. If the public as
a whole saw the value of payday lenders like our consumers do, legislators would not
propose a law banning them since it would be

Comparison Of John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
The story of Of Mice and men takes place in John Steinbeck s birth town Salinas, a
town in California close to the Salinas River and Salinas Valley. Being born and
raised in an agricultural society managed by Capitalism, Steinbeck witnessed the
effects it had on the working class. Jay Parini, the writer of John SteinbeckA
Biography, tells us that John Steinbeck sifted through his whole life, all of his
experiences, while writing this book. So of course when Steinbeck wrote Of Mice
and Men it easily assumed that he was greatly influenced by his own experiences and
personal interactions with migrant laborers. (Parini) Steinbeck wrote Of Mice and

Phineas Gage Paper
Phineas Gage Perhaps one of the most well known cases in cognitive psychology
is that of Phineas Gage. A man who suffered from an injury to his prefrontal lobes
thirty years before the field of Psychology even began (Moulin, 2006). However,
psychologists continue to study his brain and the effects of his injury and its role
in cognitive functions years later. Phineas Gage was a foreman at a railroad who
suffered damage to his prefrontal lobes as a result of an accidental explosion in the
year 1848. This explosion caused an iron bar about a meter long to be launched
completely through Gage s head and supposedly land about nine meters away. As a
result of this accident Gage suffered severe braindamage to his prefrontal lobes,...

passing of Gage, he sought out and received permission from his family to have
the body exhumated in December of 1867 ( II. The sequelae of the accident, 1848
1868, 2002). He did so in order to study the brain and learn from the injury of the
skull and the result that the damages had on Gage s personality. From the study he
was able to determine that Gage suffered damage to three locations; the area under
the zygomatic arch, the base of the skull where the iron rod had entered behind the
eye, and at the top of the head where the iron rod emerged ( III. The damage to
Gage s Skull and Brain , 2002). After studies of Gage s skull where complete,
psychologists have been able to take the measurements from the skull and use
modern technology to determine the approximate location of the legion. Damage was
caused to both the left and right prefrontal cortices in a pattern that caused a defect in
rational decision making and the processing of emotion (Damasio, 1994). Studies that
have been done since the case of Gage have determined that higher cognitive
functions take place in the prefrontal lobes. Some of these functions include working
memory, mental imagery, and willed actions that are associated with consciousness
(Frith Dolan, 1998). Psychologists have been able to learn from this famous case of

Future of Modernization
Future of Modernization SOC/120 May 4, 2013 University of Phoenix Future of
Modernization Modernization in the United States has four traits which were
identified by Peter Berger in 1977. The first trait was the decline of small, isolated
communities. Approximately one hundred years ago there were 40% of Americans
living in cities. Today, 80% of the population lives in cities. The next trait is the
expansion of personal choice. Most people choose their lifestyles instead of allowing
others to make that decision for them. The next trait is the rising amount of diversity
in the United States. Interracial couples are more accepted now then it was even 20
years ago. The fourth trait is the orientation toward the future and a... Show more

Modernization is a worldwide trend, as countries such as Japan and China combine
traditional and modern ways. In Japan they are advanced as far as technology, but
there are still few women that are corporate executives and politicians. In China,
contemporary socialist thinking are mixed with ancient Confucian principles. What
took decades or even centuries to transpire in the West has materialized in a matter
of a decade or two in China (The Pros and Cons of Modernization: Cancer in China,
Bill Chameides, 2008). Other countries, such as Mexico and Saudi Arabia, struggle to
move ahead economically because of the respect they have for their religious beliefs.
In short, although we may think of tradition and modernity as opposites,
combinations of traditional and modern are far from unusual, and they are found
throughout the world (Society: The Basics, Eleventh Edition, by John J. Macionis,
Ch 16, pg 495). The consequence of modernization is that normal traditions will
disappear. Some fear this will dehumanize our society. Though modernization has
been successful with diversifying our cultures, increasing our wealth, and expanding
opportunities, the processes of transformation ultimately leaves people feeling
insecure and dejected. The fear is that their jobs will be taken over by computers
which ultimately will prevent them from providing for their families.
Universal Basic Income Essay
In today s America, with robots on the rise, many people are feeling as if machines
are threatening their jobs, and therefore their income, way of life, and basic
stability. This is not an unreasonable fear. In 2013, Carl Frey and Michael Osborne
with the University of Oxford predicted at as many as half the jobs in the United
States could be automated within the next twenty years (Frey and Osborne). Even in
the 1930s, economists such as John Maynard Keynes, the creator of Keynesian
economics, predicted that technological developments could create economic
climate that allows for a 15 hour work week with plenty of free time for the average
American worker by the year 2030 (Thompson). The American workforce is shifting
towards this prediction... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One proposed solution to this problem is the institution of a universal basic
income. The Basic Income Earth Network defines as A periodic cash payment
unconditionally delivered to all on an individual basis, without means test or work
requirement (What Is Basic Income?). Although this definition is fairly simple, it is
also very broad. However, there are some benefits that can be gained through any
universal basic income system. One benefit is the flexibility that a universal basic
income gives a nation. Having a guaranteed income encourages economic growth
because people are more likely to start businesses when they know that if the
business is not immediately successful, they will not be left with nothing. A
universal basic income would take some of the risk of entrepreneurship. An
economy thrives when citizens are keeping currency circulating, so having these
new businesses would positively affect the economy. Even if a person is
unemployed, he or she would probably still contribute more to the economy in a
universal basic income system than America s current one as he or she would
actually have money to spend. This flexibility also lessens the strain on caregivers.

Self Perception
When we look at the sky the first thing we wish to see are the stars, those
amazing shinning objects everyone talks about, but not all see. Self concept and
perception work the same way. Through interpersonal communication we relate,
communicate and evolve with other people physically and emotionally and it s
affected
by one s self concept, perception and emotion.
Self concept is a term used to refer to how someone thinks about or perceives
themselves. How we think about and evaluate ourselves and how aware we are of
ourselves as a concept to be. A more stable definition is, as Baumeister provides, the
individual s belief about himself or herself, including the person s attributes and who
and
what the self is .

other person will get it. You can have a simple discussion by asking straight questions
to someone and having direct and concrete responses. When you have a hard time
discussing an issue that you not know exactly how to express, your recipient might
loose himself in the conversation. Like in any type of communication, there s a chance
that the intended meaning is lost. Specially, when people try to express their feelings
the meanings get wrongly perceived. A person might want to break up a relationship
but
in a nice and mature way, so they try to smooth the situation and be sensitive about
not
saying something dry that can hurt its partner. But, if it is too sensitive and too nice,
the
meaning could get wrongly perceived and the recipient might think its just an issue
they
will get over easily, when the point totally was not that.
Perception is someone s reality, it determines how they perceive information from
another person and how the perception of others is the product of how you view
yourself. Perception can be learned, physical or cultural depending on your
environment.
They type of learned perception is formed with someone s personality, from the
thoughts, ideas and beliefs that are taught. For example, when a child communicates
and transmits information with his parents, the parent s personality traits, beliefs and
ethics of life will reflect in the kid. He
Business Description of Ben Jerrys
Executive Summary Ben and Jerrys is a successful ice cream company with many
strengths and weaknesses. The company faces serious competition, financial
struggles, economic and social influences, all of which are covered in my paper. I
also discussed some recommendations I have for the companies success. Ben and
Jerry s is one of the top ice cream companies around. They have had many ups and
downs throughout the history of the company, but overall, they have overcome most
of their hardships. They have some serious competition facing them in the ice cream
industry; they have faced financial struggles, internal issues, and some social and
economic factors. In conclusion, I have come up with a few recommendations for the

Due to the fact that imitations for the product are being developed more rapidly,
Ben Jerry have changed their primary marketing goal to establish products that
cannot be imitated, but the technological developments of the company have not
allowed them to launch the products within a decent time limit. B J s mission
statement includes the need for a wide variety of innovative flavors. Five years to
find the perfect coffee bean seems unnecessary. Coffee ice cream, in this period,
may have become undesired by the customer. This scenario is compounded by, the
quick replication by competitors, and the high costs related to manufacturing each
different flavor. As a result, it is key to stop producing brands not received well, as
well as introducing new flavors quickly. Flavor of the month may be a way of
bringing consumers to them on a regular basis. Research will be key in identifying
the market in any region or country B J wishes to operate, especially into
consumers needs and wants. The way choices are made needs to be understood
and the positioning of B J needs to accommodate this. The decision is based,
amongst others, by the mood of the potential consumer at the time of decision. Ben
Jerry seem to be proud of the success rate of their relaxed, casual culture and having
employees involved in the decision making. However this policy needs to be

Grant Proposal Requirements
Applying the strategies for writing proposals studied this week, I will be comparing
the grant proposal requirements for three separate foundations. The organizations
being investigated are the W.K. Kellogg, the Sherman, and Mellon Foundation.
Furthermore, I will proceed by reviewing the specific needs for each proposal
distinguishing which elements remained the same across each foundation. Moreover,
I continue by noting any changes that must be made to the strategy used to produce
a proposal. Finally, I present any challenges that may arise from utilizing an online
proposal process versus a paper based process.

Each organization held different proposal requirements, but there were several
similarities. While the elements varied, the standard ones were projected goals,
project summary, budget plan, qualifications, past accomplishments, and
background information. Two of the foundations expected grant seekers to fill out
an application; only then would they be invited to submit a proposal. There were
no significant changes I found to be necessary when applying for a proposal
online. In regards to strategy, I stated that proposal writers should first make sure
they are a good fit for the grant. Secondly, I suggested the proposal be planned out
by a team to make sure no topics are missed as well as for editing purposes. I liked
that the foundations required an application before the proposal, as it helps the grant

The Iranian Hostage Crisis Of 1979
The Iranian Hostage Crisis of 1979 was an event that profoundly impacted Western
Iranian relations, to the extent that its residual effects still linger today. Iran s
revolution of 1979 resulted in a regime change that saw U.S. supported Mohammed
Reza Shah Pahlavi toppled by the formerly exiled Ayotollah Khomeini, who promptly
instated a strongly anti Western regime that established itself as ideologically in
direct opposition to many Western values. This anti Western, and particularly anti
American sentiment was common amongst many Iranians due to their resentment of
U.S. support for Shah Pahlavi and his oppressive and unsatisfactory regime. This
resentment was markedly exhibited to the international community with the seizure
of the American Embassy in Tehran by Khomeini supporting Islamist students, who
took 66 Americans hostage. Since the Western realm is held together by shared
values and sense of community, amongst other features, and Khomeini s Iranhad
proven itself to be not only an ideological threat to Westerners, but a security one as
well as exemplified by the hostage taking, Canadaswiftly worked bilaterally to defend
its realm by sheltering 6 American diplomats in the home of Canadian Ambssador
Ken Taylor, and covertly aiding the C.I.A. in the hostages extraction . Canada s role
in the hostage crisis internationally reinforced its loyalty to the Western realm, and in
particular, its strong bilateral relationship with the United States. This paper will
I Want You For The Us Army Poster Analysis
I Want You for the U.S. Army Posters are splashy, large format images, which are
accompanied by a short text. Usually, the purposes of the posters are to agitate,
advertise, inform, or teach people. Posters from World War I and World War II often
used metaphors, different figures, events, and places. During the First World War
propaganda posters were enormously widespread. Artists used them to agitate people
to conscription, subscriptions to war loans, and aid to the wounded soldiers. One of
the most important posters from World War Iand World War II is I Want You for U.S.
Army by James Mantgomery Flagg. This poster is very influential because of its
figure, the message, and the effect on the people.

Gold Fish Hypothesis
The null hypothesis of this study is that there is no difference in metabolic rate of
gold fish before and after increasing environmental temperature.
The alternative hypothesis of this study is that metabolic rate of gold fish changes
after increasing environmental temperature.
Results
From a sample size of eight measurements taken from eight different gold fish
population, a two tailed, paired t test was conducted to determine the relationship
between the metabolic rate of gold fish before and after the increase of environmental
temperature. As shown in table 1, for the control group, or the population before the
increase of environmental temperature, the mean amount of oxygen consumed per
hour per kilogram of fish was 267 delta[O2]/(hour*kg), with a ... Show more content

Discussion
The data received from the experiment displayed a p value of 0.001, which was
smaller than 0.05. Therefore, the null hypothesis was rejected. In other words, the
data showed that the metabolic rate of gold fish changed after increasing
environmental temperature. The metabolic rate of gold fish was measured by the
change in Oxygen concentration consumed by gold fish per unit of time per
weight of fish, which was delta [O2]/(hour*kg). The result of this study was
significant because it contributed to a previous gold fish study. According to a
gold fish study conducted by F. E. J. Fry and J. S. Hart, the cruising speed of gold
fish was related to water temperature. More specifically, Fry and Hart concluded
that as water temperature increased, the cruising speed of gold fish also increased
until when the temperature became lethal to the fish (41 degree Celsius). Relating
to Fry and Hart s finding, this study suggested that gold fish s behavior related to
water temperature in either one out of two possible ways (Figure 1a and 1b). In the
first case, as water temperature increased, gold fish received heat or energy from the
environment, resulting in
Epicurus Fear Of Life
Francisco MartГnez 818886517 PHIL 401A: Writing Assignment #3 Epicurus was
born in the city of Samos. Epicurus practiced philosophy as a student with a
follower of Democritus. This relationship influenced the work of Epicurus, notable
in the belief Epicurus held of atoms and the void. Known as the Garden, the name
given to the location and individuals that joined Epicurus in contemplation away
from society, was the birthplace of Epicureanism (the school of thought that valued
friendship, pleasure, and modest living). Epicurus is thought to have written
dozens of books, but only a few pieces remain. One of those pieces was a letter to
Menoeceus. The letter is a version from Introductory Readings in Ancient Greek and
Roman Philosophy by C.D.C. Reeve and Patrick Lee Miller. Through the letter
Epicurus advices on topics such as age and the pursuit of philosophy, the irrational
fear of death, the effects of pleasure and pain among other things. This essay will
focus on the second of the aforementioned topics. Epicurus argues that human beings
have an irrational fear of death since, death is nothing to us. In the passage of
concern (page 366) starting at seventh sentence of the second paragraph, Epicurus
writes, So, death the most frightening of bad things, is nothing to us; since when we
exist, death is not yet present, and when death is present, then we do not exist.
Therefore, it is relevant neither to the living nor to the dead, since it does not affect
the former, and the

a) Study a country on how and why its population has aged rapidly during the last 40

Japan s graying population: The reasons behind it, steps taken to curb it and the
implications of an aging society
Introduction
Japan has seen rapid development from the times of Meiji Restoration (1868) up till
today. In fact, it has grown more rapidly than any other countries from 1870 to 1994
(Nafziger,1995) because of the various economic policies its government had
undertaken after the war ended. Thus, as a result of this economic growth, standard
of living has gone up and along with technological advancements, Japan enjoys one of
the highest life expectancy compared to any other countries in the world ... Show

Another reason is the economic recession. The economy was bad for Japan
throughout the 1990s. The unemployment rate rose sharply from 2% in 1990 to
5% in 2003(Suzuki, 2006). Youth was not given an opportunity to work and those
who did obtain a stable job decreased from 77.8% in 1988 to 55.8% in 2004 and
that those who obtained no job or a temporary job went up from 9.4% to 24.6%
during the same period. The proportion proceeding to higher education increased
from 6.5% to 11.8% meaning that starting a family will be delayed. .
Suzuki also mentioned that the low income of young men relative to their fathers
discouraged marriage. Previously, the income of men in their 30s were more than that
of their fathers and motivated women to marry them. Current trends, however,
indicated that the relative income of young men to old men has declined substantially
and young men are less appealing as marriage partners than before.
Problems with an aging society
One of the issues with an ageing society is that the dependency ratio of the country
will increase. Dependency ratio refers to the number of persons under age 15 plus
persons aged 65 or older per one hundred persons 15 to 64. It is the sum of the
youth dependency ratio and the old age dependency ratio. This means that as the
society ages, more young people are tasked
Napoleon Bonaparte Comparison
Napoleon Bonaparte and Robert Mugabe were both dictators that maintained an
iron fist rule on their respective countries, France and Zimbabwe. In times of
oppression and hardship seemingly strong leaders take up the mantle of becoming
what seems like a revolutionary hero. In the case of Napoleon this meant ousting
the dysfunctional rule of the Directory in revolutionary France. His campaign for
power followed a rule of a tyrannical madman by the name of Robespierre, who
ushered an age of absolute peril and most heinous of atrocities, murder. Countless
of heads poured down the French streets during the Age of Terror. Although the
Directory followed Robespierre s rule, there was little they did to help France
recuperate. Needless to say France was in absolute chaos. But a savior by the name
of Napoleon stood up to rescue the French people in their time of most need
bringing lasting justice in the form of the Napoleonic code, religious freedom, and
education reforms that still lasts into present time. Similarly, Mugabe was once
celebrated as a revolutionary war hero in a perceived era of oppression by the British.
Together Mugabe and the ZANU PF(ZimbabweAfrican National Union Patriotic
Front) emancipated the people of Zimbabwe of their colonial chains of oppression in
1980. However, unlike Napoleon Mugabe brought economic ruin, genocide, and
racial injustice to Zimbabwe. Therefore, Napoleon was a just ruler that did more
good than harm for France but Mugabe is a tyrant that
The Country Of Ghana And Nigeria Essay
What is surprising by most is how Africa is one of the largest known continents and
being one of the richest when it comes to natural resources. However, the countries
that make up Africa and the people living in these countries are known to be living in
devastating poverty. How can it be that this plentiful continent of natural resources,
Africas people are living in povertyand living in the poorest conditions? With Africa
being such a rich continent of natural resources why are the countries within Africa
so poor? Take for instance, the countries Ghana and Nigeria There are many
countries within Africa but the main focus will be on the country of Ghana and
the country of Nigeria. Both countries are poor and the people there are in poverty.
Ghana has been struggling with poverty and being poor for quite some time and
has been slowly trying to work its way out of poverty. In an article called

So simple in fact that I saw everything in there as being common sense; but also at
the same time being hidden from the obvious senses.

John Gray shows a very obvious point of why men and women sometimes have
such hard times getting along to each other. We men tend to take things too literally
and anything else we take as an attack against us. Women tend to say sentences
which have deeper meanings. Some of the phrases men easily misinterpreted are:
We never go out. , You don t love me anymore. , or The house is always a mess. .
And for these phrases we have some dumb response like, We just went out last
week. . In telling people that both sexes speak two different languages I can see
how Gray is helping couples out. Gray is in fact in encouraging people to be more
sensitive to their mates and to be very communicative. Also to try to be more
understanding of their partners when there is something troubling him/her. I say
Gray gets one point for bringing up such a good point.
Onto another point I award to John Gray. John distinguishes Martians and Venusians
have very different cultures. There are things in which guys do that the does not
interest the female and vise versa. I agree with John on the point that men usually
like to solve their own problems. It makes a male feel needed and useful. Women on
the other hand like to talk out their problems. They don t actually need people to
help solve their problems; but people to hear them out. In one of the sections John
said that guys are generally Mr.

Research Paper On Welfare Drug Testing
Implementing Drug Testing into the Welfare System
The United States has many welfare programs, such a Temporary Assistance for
Needy Families (TANF) that provide social welfare payments to those in need. Often,
these benefits are abused by drug users those who lack the ability or motivation to
find employment and become self sufficient. As a result, several states have
attempted to implement drug testing as a requirement to receive benefits. Proponents
of drug testing believe that incorporating drug testing into the welfare systems allows
the government to provide those with drug addictions the needed treatment and
suspend the benefits from those who continue to use drugs and test positive after
treatment. They also claim that in the long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Setting a time frame for recipients before they are drug tested has been shown in
research by Perter Muenning to motivate recipients to find employment or receive
treatment for any addiction to avoid risking having their benefits removed. Those
who test positive would be required to receive treatment or have their benefits
removed, which helps to reduce costs to the welfare system. The time restrictions on
drug testing persuade recipients to actively seek employment or find addiction
consoling before the welfare system drug tests them. Implanting this system would
drastically reduce costs by motivating a majority of the recipient and only actually
drug testing a few.
Author Ilan Wurman argues in this his publication, that drug testing to apply for
welfare violates the fourth amendment of the constitution so changes must be made
to the current system. A failed testing program in Florida required all applicants to
complete a drug screening test before receiving benefits and the cost of the tests are
paid for by the applicant, but reimbursed if the test results are negative. Wurman
concludes by stating that suspicion less drug testing of government assistance

Forensic Accounting
A study conducted by two professors from Rider College interviewed over 150
lawyers, Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) and accounting educators. The study
identified sixteen skills needed by forensic accountants. According to the study, the
five most important skills are analytical skills, basic accounting skills, problem
solving skills, data analysis skills and interviewing skills (McMullen Sanchez, 2010).
Forensic accountants need analytical skills because as they review financial reports
and other source documents, they need to analyze the validity of each transaction and
determine if the company recorded the transaction fairly. The forensic accountant
needs the ability to analyze where the data came from and whether the data accurately
reflects the numbers posted in the financial reports (McIntosh, n.d.). With an in house
forensic accountant, this will ensure the company s financial state is accurately
reflected while an independent forensic accountant can verify the accuracy of the
reports, both of which help investors determine if the company is worth investing in.
Accounting is widely regarded as the language of business (McMullen and Sanchez,
2010, pg.1). As such, the need for basic accounting skills is self evident, for a forensic
accountant to be able to review financial reports and other source documents he needs
to have an understanding of basic accounting. Without that understanding, the
forensic accountant couldn t determine if the entries in the
How Does Atticus Play In Oedipus s Law
Leviticus
The book of Leviticus is mainly focus on the law. In the book of Leviticus it
discuss about God s Covenant, Guidelines for Priesthood, the Sacrificial System,
and a Time to Celebrate. Appearing before Moses, God gave direction and
information on how the Israelites are to offer sacrifices to the Lord and why to do
so. He gave other laws in regards to cleanliness, staying clean, and what to keep
away from. Laws on how to stay moral and have good ethics were also given.
Instead of the practices they had used in the past, God gave them laws to show
how they should be living. The Lord gave guidance on feasts and celebrations to
show their thankfulness to him. Finally, God told the people that they would
experience curses or blessings all based on if they follow the covenant with God.
The dominant theme of Leviticus is the holiness of God. It also shows that God s
law is what we should follow and there are many instances in Leviticus where the
Lord followed through with his promises, all based on his covenant. The whole
purpose was for you to obey and to avoid being punished. If you did obey you would

The Great Hymn Akhenaten And Religion
Religion was a significant issue throughout the eighteenth dynasty of Egypt, also
known as the Amarna period, and shortly after it. Within the infantry stage of the new
pharaoh Akhenaten s reign, he had turned the customary polytheistic religion
worshiped by citizens for many years into a monotheistic worship of the Aten, a god
represented by the sun disk. Furthermore, Akhenatenpossessed such strong beliefs for
the god Aten that he created a new city, Amarna, where all could worship Aten,
singularly. Akhenaten s obsession caused the devotion of the Aten to become more of
a cult than a religion. Within the Great Hymn to the Aten Akhenaten states that only
he knows Aten, meaning when citizens pray to Aten, they are not allowed to pray

Bali
Tourism has several impacts on many different aspects of Bali s society. Tourism has
impacted on the already existing, social, economic, cultural and environmental
processes of the island. For example, as a result of tourism the pace of urbanisation
has rapid increased and tourism has sped up the process of economic development.
There are large economic consequences on the economy of Bali. One significant
impact on Bali is the foreign exchange earnings. Tourism is the fourth largest income
earner for Indonesia at around US 5.5 billion (2003). Tourism is very labour
intensive, with the influx of tourists more services are required thus leading to more
creation of jobs, even though it increases job opportunities and higher paying jobs, ...

The social and cultural processes are also significantly impacted. Tourism has
helped develop and keep up the unique culture of the island, it has helped revive
artistic traditions, and has provided an economic justification for preserving them.
But tourism has also led to importantly behavioural impacts, for example; nude
sunbathing by tourist is widely disliked by the locals, as well as that lack of respect
is shown by tourists in scared places such as temples. Another negative impact is the
social development of Bali. There are constant conflicts between local villagers and
developers who want the land for hotels and attractions like golf courses. These social
impacts have led to a loss in culture and heritage. Another significant impact is the
turning of Balinese culture into a commodity. The major influx of tourists has
plagued Bali s culture. Dances, ceremonies and arts and crafts are all now adapted to
tourists timetables and tastes, and are mass produced to reduce cost. Also because
more people are choosing to work in the tourism industry, this has meant that fewer
are available doe traditional ceremonies and communal tasks, placing more pressure
on traditional community organisations.
As a result of tourism Bali has suffered a lot. In my opinion tourism has plagued
Bali and it s culture. Tourism brings in a lot of money for Indonesia and Bali, but as
a result of it the beautiful island is being
Literacy Reflection Paper
During this photovoice assignment, I became enlightened on the literary culture at
the school in which I am conducting my observation. I toured the school s hallways
and my clinical supervisor s classroom as if it were a museum deliberately designed
for literacy. I closely examined many of the school s bulletin boards, posters,
bookshelves, and classrooms with the sole purpose of unearthing the culture of
literacyin the elementary school. The many steps I took to and fro each classroom
and hallway taking pictures of every literarily related item I could find were not in
vain. In fact, walking around the school and digitally capturing every bit of literacy
culture allowed me to identify not only the strengths and the weaknesses of the
literacy customs incorporated by the school, but it also provided me with literacy
strategies I could integrate into my own lesson plan when I become an educator.
The gallery walk I took throughout the school and my clinical supervisor s
classroom provided me with many pictures worth a thousand words; however, only
six photos stood out to me: Jat, the Little Blue Rat, Books Everywhere, Group
Reading, Three a Day with ELA, Mr. Spaceman, and Feeling Cozy with Phonics.
When one thinks of literacy, it is easy to assume that it simply consists of only
reading; however, literacy is reading and writing combined. Jat, the Little Blue Rat,
and Mr. Spaceman were two of my favorite photos because they visually illustrate the
true definition of literacy,
Castration And Animal Welfare
On my farm the issues that may arise that deal with animal welfare are just the
basics, such as testicle castration in the young males also just simply the way they
are raised. I intend to run everything by the local veterinarian to make sure that it s
handled in the right manner. There are several different methods of castration,
however, they can be classified into 2 major groups; physical, and hormonal. These
groups can be divided further by technique but overall, it is removing the testicles
surgically, damaging them irreparably, or causing them to atrophy by stricture of the
blood supply achieves castration. I castrate my male calves a few hours after birth
using a band method. Some producers choose to not castrate until 2 to 4 months
The Only Know Case Study
Natasha Durling knew something was wrong with her son, she just didn t know
what. Doctors were also puzzled after checking Oliver, telling his mother it was a
virus.
Taking Tylenol and Benadryl was not enough of an answer for Oliver s mother who
watched as her son was in pain, with a fever, vomiting, diarrhea and sore muscles,
according to the Daily Mail.
Natasha was initially told to take her son to the doctor if his fever lasted for more
than five days, it did, and he progressively got worse, with more symptoms
beginning to show. Oliver stopped eating and drinking, his eyes became bloodshot
and a rash broke out on his face and neck.
Natasha rushed to get her son to the hospital where he was quarantined for the
measles by the nurse when they arrived. According to ... Show more content on

Doctors were ready to release him, but Natasha insisted he stayed in the hospital.
Then, the mother found out more news about her son s health when a nurse rushed
up to tell her Oliver also tested positive for the measles:
Ollie is the ONLY know case of contracting measles while having all his up to date
immunizations , and Kawasaki disease at the same time. I have one strong, brave
little man! I couldn t be more proud of him!
The mother once again fought to keep her son in the hospital until all of his tests
came back normal, and wants other parents to do the same for their children:
Trust your gut mom s and dad s. Fight for your kids if something doesn t seem
right! We know our kid s, so don t take no for an answer.
Natasha also thanked vaccinations for saving her son s life:
If Oliver didn t have his vaccinations, he would be dead right now. The vaccines
lessened the severity of the measles while his body ALSO fought the Kawasaki
disease.
A GoFundMe page has been setup to help the family while Oliver is on the road to
The Last Night Of The World Chapter Summary
What if the end of the world was tonight? Many people often worry about their last
day of life on Earth; if it were to ever end. This fear tends to make people think
about what they could do to make the best of their remaining time. This situation is
shown in the short story The Last Night of the World by Ray Bradbury. In this
story, there are two unnamed characters who talk about what they are thinking and
feeling on their last day. These two characters connect with each other at a higher
level, dealing with the last day of their existence together. The theme of this short
story is to live life to the fullest while you can. If people live this way, then the end
is less scary, and the journey there is more enjoyable. This theme is portrayed
through the characters words, describing how they feel about the situation. The first
way the theme emerges is in the girl s words. The girl is younger than the man and is
more cautious about the matter. She isn t scared, but more... Show more content on

He is older and wiser, and has mostly come to peace with his life. The first way this
is shown is when he says Sometimes it frightens me; sometimes I m not afraid at
all but at peace (1). This shows that although he is scared of the future, he is at
peace with his past and what will happen. The second way his words show is
serenity with the situation is when he is describing the things he will miss. He
says I won t miss a thing except perhaps the change in weather, and a glass of ice
water when it s how, and I might miss sleeping (3). This quote is saying that he will
miss the simple things, not the big ones. The last way the theme is emerged is
when the man and his wife go to bed as normal. It says, They washed the dishes and
stacked them away with special neatness. At eight thirty the girls were out to bed and
kissed goodnight... (3). This scene show that although the world is ending, people are
still about to be normal about

  • 2. Gross Domestic Product Changes In The United States The production of countries is compared to one another based on their gross domestic product. A country is said to have economic growth if it has an increase in output. Every quarter of the year, the Bureau of Economic Analysis releases a GDP estimate on the US. This allows for people to see how the US economy is doing, how it s changing, and predict how it might change in the future. The reports for quarter one, two, and three are all out now for 2014 and it is very interesting so see how the gross domestic productchanges through each quarter. The articles I picked to summarize and analyze are each about a certain quarter and are in chronological order. The first article from Forbes.com that is written by Samantha Sharf is titled U.S.

Even now, it makes sense to me to connect west with water. The strongest storms come from the west through Oklahoma. Rain always seems to come from the west. West is also the direction of the setting sun, and when at the ocean on the west coast, at sunset, the sun looks like it is sinking into the water. Fall: Autumn is the time of year when the temperature starts to cool. Water doesn t always have to be cool, but many ancients thought of water as a cool element. Most lakes, rivers, and oceans are very cold in their natural states. Autumn is also the time of the year when plants begin to turn inward and prepare for winter. Water is the element associated with the subconscious, so it makes sense to associate fall with water. Dusk: Dusk, the moment of twilight, is when the sun sinks into the water on the west coast, so it makes sense to associate it with this element. Also, in the evening, many people come home and rest from the day. It is the time to relax and be ourselves, to turn inward. In essence, at dusk people do the same things plants do in autumn, and because water is associated with the subconscious mind, this connection makes sense. Emotion: Water is associated with emotions because it is associated with our subconscious minds. When a person dives into the water they go down deep

  • 6. An Interesting Software Design Technique 3.3DOMAIN DRIVEN ARCHITECTURE An interesting software design technique to understand and solve complexity is Domain Driven Design (DDD). Domain Driven Design advocates modeling based on the reality of business as relevant to our use cases. As it is now getting older and hype level decreasing, many of us forget that the DDD approach really helps in understanding the problem at hand and design software towards the common understanding of the solution. When building applications, DDD talks about problems as domains and subdomains. It describes independent steps/areas of problems as bounded contexts, emphasizes a common language to talk about these problems, and adds many technical concepts, like entities, value objects and aggregate root rules to support the implementation. Sometimes these technical rules are perceived as hard barriers implementing the DDD, but at the end, people tend to forget that the important part is to organize code artifacts in alignment with business problems and using the same common, ubiquitous language. Domain modeling helps to identify and separate tangled implementations, if you are lucky to have a domain model to guide you. If you don t already have a domain model for an existing application (which is generally true in most cases), instead of going through the code to understand the different responsibilities, building a domain model and mapping the capabilities to the application at hand can probably be a better approach. This will both save

Something I noticed though, throughout the book, is that there were a few Aha moments for the characters when they found or figured out important pieces of information. One of these moments happened quite early in the story, when the scientists found the surviving infant and old man in the town of Piedmont, Arizona. The scientists who made this incredible discovery then had to figure out how and why those two people had survived a deadly virus while the rest of the town didn t. The scientists then found what the two survivors had in common and used that knowledge to stop the strain from spreading rapidly. Another Aha moment I found in the book

The initial fight was broken up by a third party. A few moments later, the accused, Mr. Buzizi, who saw the initial assault from afar, intervened and pushed the victim. Section 232 (2) of the Criminal Code states that in the case of provocation the accused [acts] [...] on the sudden and before there [is] time for their passion to cool . This means that, in order for provocation to exist, the accused must not have had the necessary guilty knowledge with respect to the course of action they were taking. In Buzizi s case, this subjective condition for manslaughter is not satisfied, and the subjective fault element for second degree murder still exists. At trial, the accused revealed that he had a significant degree of knowledge as to what he was doing during the altercation. For instance, when the accused testified, he stated that when the victim tried to pick up the exacto knife after dropping it, this is when he decided to grab the victim by his sweater and stab him (R v. Buzizi 248 blah 47). This establishes that Buzizi not only knew precisely what he did to the victim, but it also establishes that he knew his motivation for doing so, which was that he was afraid of the potentiality for the victim to attack him with the knife. Pros And Cons Of Payday Lending To prevent the ban on payday lending in Ohio, FiSCA should pursue a dual strategy of changing public opinion with borrower stories and supporting a compromise proposal based on our industry best practices. Changing public opinion is necessary since the current political environment is anti payday lending. Meanwhile, the current legislation would not only hurt members, but also sets an unfavorable regulatory precedent; supporting middle ground regulation would prevent this and build FiSCA membership. This strategy would start with ad campaigns of our consumers explaining how payday lending was their only choice and helped them provide food, water, and housing for themselves and their families in times of need. Eventually, we would shift the campaign to social media with the goal of personalizing payday lending for Ohio residents. We know that over one in ten adults in Ohio use payday loans and have positive experiences, but many in the public do not recognize this. If someone s cousin, neighbor, or friend were to share their experience it would be significantly more likely to sway opinions than just another ad from rich payday lenders. Swaying public opinion is necessary. The public currently holds an extremely unfavorable view of the payday lending industry (as demonstrated by the veto referendum vote), and this low opinion is why the law is even under consideration. However, we know from our consumer reviews that the majority are satisfied with their experiences and would use payday loans again. If the public as a whole saw the value of payday lenders like our consumers do, legislators would not propose a law banning them since it would be

He did so in order to study the brain and learn from the injury of the skull and the result that the damages had on Gage s personality. From the study he was able to determine that Gage suffered damage to three locations; the area under the zygomatic arch, the base of the skull where the iron rod had entered behind the eye, and at the top of the head where the iron rod emerged ( III. Studies that have been done since the case of Gage have determined that higher cognitive functions take place in the prefrontal lobes. Some of these functions include working memory, mental imagery, and willed actions that are associated with consciousness (Frith Dolan, 1998). In Japan they are advanced as far as technology, but there are still few women that are corporate executives and politicians. In China, contemporary socialist thinking are mixed with ancient Confucian principles. What took decades or even centuries to transpire in the West has materialized in a matter of a decade or two in China (The Pros and Cons of Modernization: Cancer in China, Bill Chameides, 2008). Other countries, such as Mexico and Saudi Arabia, struggle to move ahead economically because of the respect they have for their religious beliefs. In short, although we may think of tradition and modernity as opposites, combinations of traditional and modern are far from unusual, and they are found throughout the world (Society: The Basics, Eleventh Edition, by John J. The Basic Income Earth Network defines as A periodic cash payment unconditionally delivered to all on an individual basis, without means test or work requirement (What Is Basic Income?). Although this definition is fairly simple, it is also very broad. However, there are some benefits that can be gained through any universal basic income system. One benefit is the flexibility that a universal basic income gives a nation. Having a guaranteed income encourages economic growth because people are more likely to start businesses when they know that if the business is not immediately successful, they will not be left with nothing. A universal basic income would take some of the risk of entrepreneurship. An economy thrives when citizens are keeping currency circulating, so having these new businesses would positively affect the economy. Even if a person is unemployed, he or she would probably still contribute more to the economy in a universal basic income system than America s current one as he or she would actually have money to spend. This flexibility also lessens the strain on caregivers. Becca Kirkpatrick, a community organizer and proponent of the universal

The organizations being investigated are the W.K. Kellogg, the Sherman, and Mellon Foundation. Furthermore, I will proceed by reviewing the specific needs for each proposal distinguishing which elements remained the same across each foundation. Moreover, I continue by noting any changes that must be made to the strategy used to produce a proposal. Finally, I present any challenges that may arise from utilizing an online proposal process versus a paper based process. Foundations and Requirements WKKF The W.K. While the elements varied, the standard ones were projected goals, project summary, budget plan, qualifications, past accomplishments, and background information. Two of the foundations expected grant seekers to fill out an application; only then would they be invited to submit a proposal. There were no significant changes I found to be necessary when applying for a proposal online. In regards to strategy, I stated that proposal writers should first make sure they are a good fit for the grant. Secondly, I suggested the proposal be planned out by a team to make sure no topics are missed as well as for editing purposes. I liked that the foundations required an application before the proposal, as it helps the grant writer prepare for the real
  • 26. The Iranian Hostage Crisis Of 1979 The Iranian Hostage Crisis of 1979 was an event that profoundly impacted Western Iranian relations, to the extent that its residual effects still linger today. Iran s revolution of 1979 resulted in a regime change that saw U.S. supported Mohammed Reza Shah Pahlavi toppled by the formerly exiled Ayotollah Khomeini, who promptly instated a strongly anti Western regime that established itself as ideologically in direct opposition to many Western values. This anti Western, and particularly anti American sentiment was common amongst many Iranians due to their resentment of U.S. support for Shah Pahlavi and his oppressive and unsatisfactory regime. This resentment was markedly exhibited to the international community with the seizure of the American Embassy in Tehran by Khomeini supporting Islamist students, who took 66 Americans hostage. Since the Western realm is held together by shared values and sense of community, amongst other features, and Khomeini s Iranhad proven itself to be not only an ideological threat to Westerners, but a security one as well as exemplified by the hostage taking, Canadaswiftly worked bilaterally to defend its realm by sheltering 6 American diplomats in the home of Canadian Ambssador Ken Taylor, and covertly aiding the C.I.A. in the hostages extraction . Canada s role in the hostage crisis internationally reinforced its loyalty to the Western realm, and in particular, its strong bilateral relationship with the United States. This paper will

In other words, the data showed that the metabolic rate of gold fish changed after increasing environmental temperature. The metabolic rate of gold fish was measured by the change in Oxygen concentration consumed by gold fish per unit of time per weight of fish, which was delta [O2]/(hour*kg). The result of this study was significant because it contributed to a previous gold fish study. According to a gold fish study conducted by F. E. J. Fry and J. S. Hart, the cruising speed of gold fish was related to water temperature. More specifically, Fry and Hart concluded that as water temperature increased, the cruising speed of gold fish also increased until when the temperature became lethal to the fish (41 degree Celsius). Relating to Fry and Hart s finding, this study suggested that gold fish s behavior related to water temperature in either one out of two possible ways (Figure 1a and 1b). Epicurus practiced philosophy as a student with a follower of Democritus. This relationship influenced the work of Epicurus, notable in the belief Epicurus held of atoms and the void. Known as the Garden, the name given to the location and individuals that joined Epicurus in contemplation away from society, was the birthplace of Epicureanism (the school of thought that valued friendship, pleasure, and modest living). Epicurus is thought to have written dozens of books, but only a few pieces remain. One of those pieces was a letter to Menoeceus. The letter is a version from Introductory Readings in Ancient Greek and Roman Philosophy by C.D.C. Reeve and Patrick Lee Miller. Through the letter Epicurus advices on topics such as age and the pursuit of philosophy, the irrational fear of death, the effects of pleasure and pain among other things. This essay will focus on the second of the aforementioned topics. Epicurus argues that human beings have an irrational fear of death since, death is nothing to us. In the passage of concern (page 366) starting at seventh sentence of the second paragraph, Epicurus writes, So, death the most frightening of bad things, is nothing to us; since when we exist, death is not yet present, and when death is present, then we do not exist. Therefore, it is relevant neither to the living nor to the dead, since it does not affect the former, and the

Japan s graying population: The reasons behind it, steps taken to curb it and the implications of an aging society Introduction Japan has seen rapid development from the times of Meiji Restoration (1868) up till today. In fact, it has grown more rapidly than any other countries from 1870 to 1994 (Nafziger,1995) because of the various economic policies its government had undertaken after the war ended. Thus, as a result of this economic growth, standard of living has gone up and along with technological advancements, Japan enjoys one of the highest life expectancy compared to any other countries in the world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another reason is the economic recession. The economy was bad for Japan throughout the 1990s. The unemployment rate rose sharply from 2% in 1990 to 5% in 2003(Suzuki, 2006). Youth was not given an opportunity to work and those who did obtain a stable job decreased from 77.8% in 1988 to 55.8% in 2004 and that those who obtained no job or a temporary job went up from 9.4% to 24.6% during the same period. The proportion proceeding to higher education increased from 6.5% to 11.8% meaning that starting a family will be delayed. . Suzuki also mentioned that the low income of young men relative to their fathers discouraged marriage. Previously, the income of men in their 30s were more than that of their fathers and motivated women to marry them. Current trends, however, indicated that the relative income of young men to old men has declined substantially and young men are less appealing as marriage partners than before. Problems with an aging society One of the issues with an ageing society is that the dependency ratio of the country will increase. Dependency ratio refers to the number of persons under age 15 plus persons aged 65 or older per one hundred persons 15 to 64. It is the sum of the youth dependency ratio and the old age dependency ratio. This means that as the society ages, more young people are tasked
  • 33. Napoleon Bonaparte Comparison Napoleon Bonaparte and Robert Mugabe were both dictators that maintained an iron fist rule on their respective countries, France and Zimbabwe. In times of oppression and hardship seemingly strong leaders take up the mantle of becoming what seems like a revolutionary hero. In the case of Napoleon this meant ousting the dysfunctional rule of the Directory in revolutionary France. His campaign for power followed a rule of a tyrannical madman by the name of Robespierre, who ushered an age of absolute peril and most heinous of atrocities, murder. Countless of heads poured down the French streets during the Age of Terror. Although the Directory followed Robespierre s rule, there was little they did to help France recuperate. Needless to say France was in absolute chaos. But a savior by the name of Napoleon stood up to rescue the French people in their time of most need bringing lasting justice in the form of the Napoleonic code, religious freedom, and education reforms that still lasts into present time. Similarly, Mugabe was once celebrated as a revolutionary war hero in a perceived era of oppression by the British. Together Mugabe and the ZANU PF(ZimbabweAfrican National Union Patriotic Front) emancipated the people of Zimbabwe of their colonial chains of oppression in 1980. However, unlike Napoleon Mugabe brought economic ruin, genocide, and racial injustice to Zimbabwe. Therefore, Napoleon was a just ruler that did more good than harm for France but Mugabe is a tyrant that

Some of the phrases men easily misinterpreted are: We never go out. , You don t love me anymore. , or The house is always a mess. . Often, these benefits are abused by drug users those who lack the ability or motivation to find employment and become self sufficient. As a result, several states have attempted to implement drug testing as a requirement to receive benefits. Setting a time frame for recipients before they are drug tested has been shown in research by Perter Muenning to motivate recipients to find employment or receive treatment for any addiction to avoid risking having their benefits removed. Those who test positive would be required to receive treatment or have their benefits removed, which helps to reduce costs to the welfare system. The time restrictions on drug testing persuade recipients to actively seek employment or find addiction consoling before the welfare system drug tests them. Implanting this system would drastically reduce costs by motivating a majority of the recipient and only actually drug testing a few. Author Ilan Wurman argues in this his publication, that drug testing to apply for welfare violates the fourth amendment of the constitution so changes must be made to the current system. The study identified sixteen skills needed by forensic accountants. According to the study, the five most important skills are analytical skills, basic accounting skills, problem solving skills, data analysis skills and interviewing skills (McMullen Sanchez, 2010). Forensic accountants need analytical skills because as they review financial reports and other source documents, they need to analyze the validity of each transaction and determine if the company recorded the transaction fairly. The forensic accountant needs the ability to analyze where the data came from and whether the data accurately reflects the numbers posted in the financial reports (McIntosh, n.d.). With an in house forensic accountant, this will ensure the company s financial state is accurately reflected while an independent forensic accountant can verify the accuracy of the reports, both of which help investors determine if the company is worth investing in. Accounting is widely regarded as the language of business (McMullen and Sanchez, 2010, pg.1). As such, the need for basic accounting skills is self evident, for a forensic accountant to be able to review financial reports and other source documents he needs to have an understanding of basic accounting.
