Adding (when signs are the same) Keep the sign  Add Examples: 3 + 4 = 7 (-9) + (-4) = -13
Adding (when signs are different) Keep the sign of the number that is farthest from 0 Subtract bigger number from smaller number Examples: -3 + 5 = 2 -7 + 4 = -3
Subtract Change the subtraction sign to an addition sign Change the sign of the second number Follow addition rules Examples: 3 – (- 7) = 3 + (+7) = 10
Multiply/Divide If there are an  EVEN  number of  negative signs …the answer will be  POSITIVE If there are an  ODD  number of  negative signs …the answer will be  NEGATIVE Examples: -4 x (-7) = 28 5 x (-3) = -15
