Removal of slag is important , and needs to be done …it can be
done manually …using a chipping hammer …but the process is
laborious and time consuming …sometimes needs a dedicated
works men specially for slag removal in assembly line ….hence
there is need for a special purpose machine to remove slag from
welded components.

7. Need for Project :
Manual method has following disadvanatages:
1.Very Slow
2. Not very clean –may have slag inclusions
3.Un-safe …slag may fly into the eyes of
operator
4.Improper quality of surface
5.Single purpose of slag removal
6. Separate tools for slag removal and wire
brush cleaning needed.

cleaner mechanism with horizontal (to-fro)
stroke adjustment & hammer mechanism based
on cam-follower mechanism with spring return
2. Design development and manufacturing of
(work-piece) holding fixture arrangement , work
–piece indexing mechanism with adjustable
length and adjustable diameter
3 . Making machine multi-purpose by addition of
Polishing wheel and Buffing wheel
