Surface mount technology involves attaching electronic components directly to the surface of printed circuit boards, as opposed to through-hole technology where components are inserted into holes. There are three main types of surface mount assemblies depending on whether components are mounted on one or both sides of the board. The surface mount process involves designing the board, applying solder paste, placing components, soldering, cleaning, and potential repair. Infrared and hot gas soldering are two common soldering techniques used. Reworking involves removing faulty components and soldering new ones in their place.

This document summarizes the process of printed circuit board assembly. It introduces Instrumentation Limited, an Indian public sector company, and its state-of-the-art PCB assembly plant. It describes the two main techniques for assembling PCBs: through-hole technology (PTH) where components are inserted into drilled holes, and surface mount technology (SMT) where components are directly placed on the surface. The key equipment used in each technique is outlined, including wave soldering machines for PTH and pick-and-place machines, screen printers, and reflow ovens for SMT. Common applications that use printed circuit boards are also listed.
The document discusses CNC controlled plasma transferred arc (PTA) welding systems. It explains that PTA welding involves using powder as a filler material and is best done through automation rather than manually. CNC control allows automation of all PTA welding parameters including gas flow, powder feed rate, welding current, travel speed, and more. Key benefits of CNC controlled PTA welding include time savings, improved uniformity and repeatability of welds, reduced costs, and not requiring skilled labor operators. The concluding sections provide example applications and emphasize that affordable CNC PTA systems can be designed while maintaining high efficiency.

The document discusses optimizing the capacity and surface quality of a pickling line using the Detmaster MPG Pickling Grade Measurement System. In a pickling process, residual scale from hot rolling is removed through chemical reaction in pickling tanks. The system aims to achieve the nominal level of scale removal while maximizing production capacity. It introduces a new highly sensitive technology that can continuously measure residual scale across the entire strip surface with changes below 2% detectable. This provides operators real-time visualization to precisely control line speeds and processing for each steel grade, increasing capacity by an estimated minimum of 5% without other investments.

The Building Blocks of QuestDB, a Time Series Databasejavier ramirez
Talk Delivered at Valencia Codes Meetup 2024-06.
Traditionally, databases have treated timestamps just as another data type. However, when performing real-time analytics, timestamps should be first class citizens and we need rich time semantics to get the most out of our data. We also need to deal with ever growing datasets while keeping performant, which is as fun as it sounds.
It is no wonder time-series databases are now more popular than ever before. Join me in this session to learn about the internal architecture and building blocks of QuestDB, an open source time-series database designed for speed. We will also review a history of some of the changes we have gone over the past two years to deal with late and unordered data, non-blocking writes, read-replicas, or faster batch ingestion.
