2. ROSE BENGAL
 Is -4,5,6,7-tetrachloro-2',4',5',7'-
tetraiodofluorescein
 It is a derivative of flurescein dye
 Is a brownish- red powder, available in
stripes also
 Water soluble material

3.  It will cross the cell membranes of dead cells
or degenerated cells, but not living cells
 Its sodium salts commonly used in eye drops
to stain damaged conjunctival and corneal
cells, thereby identify damaged area

4. PROPERTIES
 Stains dead and devitalized tissues
 Anti viral activity
 Stains mucus threads and corneal filaments
 It suggest deficiency of tear components like
mucin and albumin

5.  Very sensitive and stains bulbar conjunctiva
and cornea in early stage of dry eye
syndrome
 It is irritating
 Available as stripes and solution
 Usually seen with white light
 Can also seen with green filter

6. AVAILABILITY
 Available as 1% topical solution
 As 1.3mg stripe 1% RB

 Corneal staining
toxic keratitis, dendritic keratitis

8.  In kerato conjunctivitis sicca (KCS)

10.  Cicatricial pemphigoid

11.  Steven johnson syndrome(SJS)

12.  Body of pingiculae and pterygium
 Pressure areas in contact lens wear

13.  Sjogren syndrome

can be used with after topical anesthetics
