The liberation war of 1971 was a unique general event in
human history. Because the liberation war of Bangladesh
is the movement for establishing the self-determination of
the people of the country, but in a special world situation,
it achieves international standards. The biggest proof of
this is that America and China publicly take positions
against Bangladesh, while on the other hand, the India
and the Soviet Union express clear support for the people
of Bangladesh.

In the 12 October, the US Ambassador in a meeting
with Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, told that if
India does not quit helping the freedom fighters, at
that point Pakistan can attack India from the west.
In 22 November, US President Nixon reports a notice
to the Soviet Union for providing arms to India.
After that, they sent Seventh Fleet on 9th
December, that was deployed to the Bay of Bengal.

allies in our liberation war

more prominent.
China also sent 200 military experts in October
for training in guerilla warfare.
On 5 and 7 December, China give veto against
Soviet Union’s two proposals.

Undoubtedly, the liberation war of 1971 was a unique event
in human history. The role of super powers in the liberation
war brought a bold relief to the reality of international
politics during the 1971. Each of the super powers played its
part in accordance with its own national, regional and global
interests.
Involvement of the superpowers, positive or negative, resulted
in the emergence of Bangladesh as an independent and
sovereign state.
