RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) bind to RNA and participate in forming ribonucleoprotein complexes. They contain structural motifs like the RNA recognition motif and have roles in post-transcriptional control and RNA processing. RBPs exhibit specific recognition of their RNA targets through these motifs. The most common motif is the RNA recognition motif, which interacts with RNA through its beta-sheet. Double-stranded RNA-binding motifs and zinc finger motifs also allow for specific protein-RNA binding.
