A Brief Note On The Industrial Heritage Of Coal Industry
Hewison claimed that as an industry dies, the heritage solution is gradually applied. Depending
on the developing process of coal industry, it seems that it is too early to talk about the
development of industrial heritage of coal in China. However, in fact, industrial heritage of coal
has already become an infant industry in this country. For example, Haizhou Colliery in
Liaoning province is the biggest open pit coalmine in Asia. It was explored in 1897, and in 1953,
this colliery was used again after Second World War and Civil War. It was the first modern,
mechanized and electrified open pit in China. Nevertheless, by the year of 2005, coalresource
exhaustion caused the close of the colliery and this big open pit was abandoned. This... Show more

There are external and internal motivations for industrial transformation from coal industry to
industrial heritage of coal in China below. The external reasons decide the necessity of industrial
transformation of coal industry. And the internal motivations emphasize the value of industrial
heritage of coal.
In terms of external factors, coal resource depletion and environment contamination are the main
reasons for industrial transformation. Specifically, coal, oil and natural gas are non renewable
resources in the world. Even if China is abundant in coal resource, due to much exploiting of coal,
it has declined sharply. The production of coal resource cannot meet the demand for coal in the
development of industrialization. Until now, China has become the world s largest coal importer.
By the year of 2012, China imported 289 million tonnes. Oppositely, Japan, as the second largest
coal importer, had 184 million tonnes imported coal. In the UK, the number of imported coal was
45 million tonnes in the same year.
China Coal Market Development Blue Book 2010 maintained the reasons that could affect coal
import and export. Market requirement, coal price, ocean freight of coal and national policy about
export and import all impact the export and import of coal resource. On one hand, it is certain that
coal resource is still an important energy for economic and industrial development. On the other
hand, the data shows that domestic coal

How Depression Affects The Quality Of Interpersonal...
Depression is one of the most common psychiatric disorders in the United States. About 20% of
people in the U.S. will experience an episode of depression some time in their lifetime. Of these
people, women make up a majority of this group (Gotlib Hammen, 2008) among men and
women, it is a 1:2 ratio (Kessler, 2003). Depression is responsible for both social and economic
disability among other mental and behavioral disorders during early and middle adulthood
(Goodman Tully, 2008; Wilhelm, 2006). During this period in life, women are most likely mothers
and are still supremely primary caretakers for children (Goodman Tully, 2008; Lamb, 2000).
Depression can negatively affect the quality of interpersonal relationships, including spouses and
children (Hammen, 2008). Mothers have the most contact and influence of a child s caretaking. If a
mother is depressed, that influence would be more impressionable than if the child s father was
depressed in terms of the child s ability to internalize and externalize problems (Goodman Tully,
2008; Connell Goodman, 2002). Children with clinically depressed mothers have been shown to
experience withdrawn or negative interactions with their mothers that can subsequently lead to
behavioral problems (Turney, 2011; Turner Lloyd, 1999).
Depression in mothers can have detrimental consequences on the relationship that a mother has with
their child and the child s future health. One of the greatest risk factors for depression in children

The Empire State Building In The New York City
New York City is full of city landmarks and key pieces to any vacation. It holds some of the world
s most treasured wonders. This city has been through many hard times such as The Great
Depression and World War II, and it has been through good ones too. But none as memorable as
The Empire State Building. The Empire State Buildingis an important building with interesting
facts that are wonderful to learn.
The Empire State Building was built in a race. In the late 1920 s, builders wanted to construct the
tallest building. The main competition was between the Empire State Building and the Chrysler
Building. After many changes the Empire State Building finally won the title of the tallest
building in the world. This record would stand for 40 years. Its structure is modeled after two
buildings which are the Reynold s Building in North Carolina and Carew Tower in Cincinnati.
The Empire State Building s name came from a nickname for New York, the Empire State. The
tower at the top, initially it was supposed to be designed as a mooring mast for airships.
Unfortunately, high winds made this extremely difficult. This plan is now deserted due to the
closest thing to a landing was in September 1931, when an airship tethered itself to the spire for a
little while.
It took approximately 20 months, a record time, with using 3,400 men per day to fully construct
the building. (History.com) The Empire State Building s skeleton was built at a rate of four and a
half stories a week.

Comparing Meso And South American Mythology
In Meso and South American mythology, Jaguars were both admired and feared and often
extensively integrated into stories and religious traditions and rituals. Shamans of this area that
were believed to be able to take the form of these large predators, known as were jaguars, were
feared due to their ability to make contact with dangerous spirits and other harmful forces, which
had a profound impact on Mesoamerican beliefs. Due to Jaguars being the most powerful and
aggressive predator to inhabit these areas, they were additionally associated with fertility, royalty,
the Earth, and even included in myths of creation and cataclysms. The Mayans even believed the sun
god, Ahau Kin, would become the Jaguar god while he spent time in the Underworld during the
time between the sunset and sunrise.
The Aztec calendar depicts the cosmology of the world by illustrating different stages, events and
destinies of both individuals, society, and the world that either occurred in the past or will occur
in the future. Additionally, this calendar was also used to count the years and ran parallel with
the solar year. The calendar comprised of 260 days that were divided into 20 weeks, each of which
was controlled by a specific deity, with each day having its own assigned god or goddess.
Furthermore, the Aztec calendar displays principal elements of the fifth creation, which justifies
war and sacrifice, and illustrates the belief that sacrifices were necessary to nourish the gods. It is

Essay On Catalhoyuk
Since the beginning of time, there has been a great amount of progress throughout the world. From
cultural adaptations, the creation of social classes, technological advancements, the spread of
languages, and so on. We know about all of these progressions simply because of anthropology. By
studying humans, of the past and the present, anthropologists have learned how humans have
evolved throughout time, how they have adapted to their world, their own personal ways of living,
as well as how they communicated with one another. One of the ways anthropologists are capable
of learning such things, is through the study of archaeology. By digging up past civilizations,
archaeology allows anthropologists to put all the missing pieces together and to... Show more

Archaeologists have to envision how life was once lived, thousands of years ago, simply by
studying paintings on a wall, or through the examination of human remains. Not only do they
have to imagine these things, they need to have proof and evidence to back up their hypothesis.
However, this task can be very difficult to accomplish. Due to the fact that these artifacts are
hundreds to thousands of years old, they are likely to be very fragile. Making it difficult to
collect all the pieces of evidence needed to support their theory. The objects that are still intact,
however, are collected, cleaned, photographed, documented and analyzed for further studies.
While researching Catalhoyuk, I was intrigued with the idea of living in the houses that they
lived in. I wondered if they were dark, or cold. Apparently, a group of archaeologists had the same
thought, and were able to re create and build one of the Catalhoyuk houses in a site near Mira
Stevanovic, according to Ian Hodder. Their model house proved that the rooms were in fact lit up,
because the sun entered through the square opening in the roof. I was also surprised by the fact
that the children born there did not live with their biological parents, especially because family
seemed to have been very important in regards to the social order of the household. My research
has been very valuable for acknowledging the importance of archaeology, and how it has extended
our knowledge on the history of

The History of the First Emperor of China
On March 29, 1974, a couple of workers were digging a water well on the east side of Mount Li
outside of the city of Xi an. The workers uncovered a single terracotta figure and called the
government authorities who investigated the matter. Soon, government archeologists were sent to
the site. The unearthed great clay army that has baffled modern day craftsmen, intrigued
archeologists, and amazed the general public. Before this discovery, no one knew about the First
Emperor of China. Forty years later, we know a good deal about his legacy. Ying Zheng was born
in 259 BCE to the King of Qin and his concubine. In 246 BCE, he took the throne at only thirteen.

Lack of historical records makes some historians question the association between the First
Emperor and the construction of the wall. What is certain, however, is that if the First Emperor
gave the orders to build the Great Wall, it was not built as we know it today. The walls would
have been made of stones or earth, depending on what was more readily available. The
philosophies of the time included Confucianism and Legalism, as simplified by modern scholar
Arthur Waley in his book, Three Ways of Thought in Ancient China. Confucianism was
considered bad and impractical, based on the idea that it was ruler based and hind sighted. The
Legalists were considered good and practical because the administrations they set up were run by
qualified men, used agriculture to stimulate the economy, and created clear laws. In fact, the First
Emperor ordered the burning of several Confucius texts part of the Five Classics including the
Book of Poetry and the Book of Documents. This was knows as the Burning of the Books. This
burning also included other literature such as poetry, historical documents, and philosophical texts.
This was done because the emperor felt threatened by those below him with something critical to
say. [All] persons in the empire daring to store [these books] should go to the administrative and
military governors so that these books may be indiscriminately burned. Those who dare to discuss

Thorough Pre Employment Assessments
Choice #1: Thorough Pre Employment Assessments As companies strive to hire the best
individuals for their open positions, part of the process includes initial assessment tools and
methods. When developing such processes, the organization must understand the scope of the
position and what assessments are most appropriate. In the case of BioServerSystems (BSS),
Stanley Jausneister must determine what each position is doing, seeing, touching, and working
with in order to fully evaluate the most appropriate assessment methods for each position. Presented
are a suggested improved assessment process, recommendations for more initial and substantive
assessments methods, and legal aspects of the recommendations for BSS into the future.
BioServerSystems (BSS) Current State Assessments Currently, BSS begins with reviewing the
application blank or application from employments. This document requires the candidate to fill in
requested information about previous work history with dates, educational and work experience,
and suggested references. This form should only request information that pertains to the candidate s
knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA) needed to complete the duties of the position (Henemann,
Judge, Kammeyer Mueller, 2012). BSS took the stance that the information on the provided by the
applicant was being truthful and the information was accurate. Another method utilized by BSS is

Antonio Lucio Vivaldi
Birth: Antonio Vivaldi had been born on March the 4th, 1678. He was baptized immediately after
birth
Early Adult Years: Antonio Vivaldi was made a priest in 1703. But, according to him, a year
later after becoming a priest, he no longer wanted to celebrate Mass due to complaints like
tightness of chest . This may have been genuine or fake. It may have been genuine, in which case,
the illness was probably asthma. It may have been faked due to his greater love of music, so he
could spend more time writing it and jotting ideas down instead of celebrating mass. Anyways,
Antonio Vivaldi became a clergyman against his own will. He probably became one in the first

After 3 years in Rome, Vivaldi returned to Venice in 1725, where he produced more operas in the
very same year.
Vivaldi also managed to squeeze in The Four Seasons in that epic year too. They were the first
four in a collection of twelve with a long name for another Opus, Opus 8. (Man he s written a lot
of Opuses).
Late Adult Years: During his career height, Vivaldi was asked by many royalties and noblemen to
play for them. He played for some weddings and wrote another Opus, Opus 9.
Emperor Charles the Sixth adored Vivaldi s music, and he knighted him and gave him a gold
medal, and an invitation to Vienna to work for him. In turn, Vivaldi wrote some good music for
Charles the Sixth.
Vivaldi s life ended in financial difficulties, for Vivaldi left Venice. He went to Vienna to perform
and work for Charles the Sixth, who unfortunately died shortly after Vivaldi arrived. This tragedy
put Vivaldi in a sticky situation. He no longer had Royal protection and money and income, aka. No
job.
Death: It is perhaps not very surprising that Vivaldi died soon after Charles, a year later, on the
27th of July, 1741. On July 28 he was buried in a simple grave. His funeral also took place shortly
after his death.
Although Vivaldi has died long ago, he has not been forgotten. There are monuments and
memorial plaques at his last resting place and his last dwelling place in Vienna. His works are still

Argumentative Essay On Nuclear War

1 November 2017
Rough Draft
Nuclear warfare is arguably one of the darkest topics and one of the biggest threats in today s
society. A Nuclear War would cause exponential chaos and destruction to our world and many lives
would be lost. Many countries have nuclear weapons at their disposal. The first people to create
nuclear weapons were the scientist at the Manhattan project. The Manhattan Project is one of the
most important and technologically advanced events involving the smartest minds of all time and
changed the course of history.
In the evening of June 18th, 1942, the Manhattan project was ordered to be created by president
Roosevelt. Roosevelt order this weapon to be created because Hitler was making progress in
Europe and our naval base at pearl harbor got destroyed months earlier. The man placed in
control of the project was Colonel J.C. Marshall. The main goal of the Manhattan project was to
build a nuclear bomb before Germany could, it was a race to see who would build it first and the
winner of the race most likely would win the war. Because it was a race against Germany,
Colonel Marshall wanted every single aspect of the project to be kept secret. By fall of the same
year that it was created they had recruited hundreds of scientists to work on this project but it still
was not enough. The scientist worked on different aspects of the creation and were not allowed to

Evidence Based Outcomes And Utilizing Findings
Evidence Based Outcomes and Utilizing Findings Evidenced based practice (EBP) is now
considered to be best practice but, although great strides have been made in applying the
research in practice, there is still progress to be made. EBP is central to delivering the highest
quality healthcare and ensuring the best outcomes for patients. However, EBP guiding the
practice in healthcare systems is not the norm in many healthcare systems across the United
States (Melnyk Fineout Overholt, 2011). The most overwhelming evidence for using EBP in
practice is that is provides better outcomes in patients and provides a higher quality of care.
Therefore, patients are more satisfied, healthcare costs are reduced and there is a reduction in
differences in delivery of care according to geographic area (Melnyk Fineout Overholt, 2011).
Evidence based practice is defined by Polit and Beck (2012) as a practice that involves making
clinical decisions on the best available evidence which is usually from disciplined research, while
research utilization is using an aspect of a study for something else unrelated to the original
research. The two terms are sometimes used synonymously but there is a distinct difference. In
research utilization the emphasis is on translating the information into real word applications.
Evidence based practice (EBP) is broader than research utilization and incorporates research
findings with other factors (Polit Beck, 2012). Many factors work to either facilitate

Asexual And Sexual Evolution Similarities
The main difference between asexual and sexual evolution is the process in which new individuals
are created. With asexual organisms reproduction involves creating an exact copy of the parent
often by itself. Sexual reproduction, on the other hand, involves meiosis and the fusion of an egg
and sperm from two separate parents in order to create a new, unique individual. This causes vast
differences in the evolutionof each. The most prominent disadvantage of sexual evolution is the fact
that two individuals of opposite sexare required to reproduce as this makes the process much slower
in rate and causes vast challenges from the environment due to limited resources and parents.
Asexual reproduction, however, has the ability to duplicate alone and has a extremely fast and
effective rate of reproduction. The disadvantages that come with this are major as a single, harmful
mutation can be passed through an entire family tree through copying errors with little to no
variation. Muller s Ratchet theory explains how damaging mutations in an asexual species will
eventually cause the population to become extinct while a sexual species will overcome this as its
offspring have variation which could keep a gene free of the harmful mutations through evolution.
This variation is the main reason sexual reproduction has evolved so vastly and effectively.
The first bilateral flatworms had huge impact on many future animal designs and sex strategies
because they were one of the first species to branch off starting the tree of bilateral species on
earth making them bilaterians earliest ancestor. This is important to understanding how and why
many bilateral animals have evolved to what they are today. The most important aspect about the
flatworms innovative design is the placement of the brain and eyes connected by a central nervous
system. The purpose of having its brain and eyes at the head of the body makes it very effective
for tracking and hunting prey and resources. This innovative structure created a new body plan that
many predators and prey would come to follow in evolution.
One animal that I found interesting, in terms of extreme innovations to reproduction, was the
Jacana Birds and their method of polyandry, which

This is because her portrayed way of life attracted the narrator to Rosemary s house, which in

another person that the main character almost could not recognize. With her change in
appearance from vintage clothing to more updated clothing, as well as her almost disregard for

I Am Silent As A Mouse
Bang! There was a loud boom sound as the dinner plates shattered. I stood silent as a mouse. I
did not know what to say or do. My children Sam and Elle; both aged 12, just asked me about
ww2. For you it could just be history but for me; a Jewish woman named Beth Smith is my past.
Yes, my past! I thought for a minute or two, how long could i hide the horrific truth. Well, they
were old enough to know about the grandparents. Quickly I gathered them both to tell them my
story. My terrifying past! Just before I began I felt a shiver just like 30 years ago. A shiver where it
all started...
It began with you grandparents and me hiding from the Germans. Behind the bookshelf was a
camouflaged, pale, white door where I and my family used to hide for protection. However, one
foggy, windy, cold day the Germans started to destroy everything that was in the house and found
us! I still remember when the door banged opened and the bullets flied like a rocket to the ceiling.
Loudly, they shouted surrender or face the terrible consequence! before we surrendered ourselves
and started to walk I had the family hug. A hug that I yearn for. As time rushed fast, 8 hours later I
reached at the dull, muddy, petrifying camp. The camp that most people talked about. The camp that
crumbled people s lives...
As soon as we got there I got spilt up with my parents. I could never live without my parents, I just

The Eight Beatitudes In The Sermon On The Mount
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus introduced the eight beatitudes to teach his followers how to
live an ideal Christian life. He taught those who listened about the 8 important blessings to guide
us to soon be living an everlasting life with God in His kingdom above. Some of the Beatitudes
influence us to feel compassion towards those who have wronged us, to be able to act out of the
goodness of our hearts, and to bring peace and harmony to friends and enemies in times of
disagreement. These Beatitudesare significant to us as Christians, for they shall enlighten us with
Jesus teachings for a virtuous and moral life here on earth and above. Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy is the fifth beatitude that Jesus had said on the Mount. This Beatitude
means to show forgiveness to those who have wronged you and to always be compassionate and
sympathetic towards them. The idea of being merciful means to give up seeking revenge to
those who have hurt them and follow Jesus ways of turning the other cheek. This Beatitude can
be applied to my own life in many situations, situations in which I have been able to love
someone unconditionally despite the fact that they ve betrayed me. A situation I ve experienced
betrayal was when my friend had gone behind my back spreading personal things that I had
confided in her to keep private, but instead she had spread it like wild fire. As a result, I did not
think of revenge as a Plan A, I didn t want anger to rule my

The Carnage Of The Indians
Indeed, so bombarded are most Americans with the unexamined ideology of worthy and unworthy
victims . . . (26) Genocides, such as that of the Amerindians, show this grotesque train of thought in
human beings. The dehumanization and murder of the Native Americans was nothing more than an
action made by the Europeans to show their superiority they believed they possessed. Throughout
history, this behavior can be seen in many tyrannical communities, such as those that ruled over the
Armenians, Jews, Gypsies, Tbos, Bengalis, Timorese, Cambodians, Ugandans, and others. (4)
Although many people argue that a variety of diseases killed the unexposed Indians, it is proven
that mass murders killed off a majority of native people. David E. Stannard defends this argument
by giving samples of evidence that suggest that the carnage of the Indians reflects very similarly
with the holocaustof the Jewish people in Nazi Germany.
Stannard brings up valid justification to his argument by comparing the two acts of cruelty.
Stannard shows the similarities of labor for the Jews and Indians by giving an example of the
strenuous work both were demanded to do. In both cases, from the so called silver mountain of
Potosi in the sixteenth century Andes to the synthetic rubber factory of Auschwitz in the 1940 s,
the slave drivers calculated that it was cheaper to work people to death by the tens of thousands and
then replace them than it was to maintain and feed a permanent captive labor

Let s Stop Judging A Book By It s Cover
Just like Ghandhi said, an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. There are plenty of times,
when we accidently may judge someone we don t know. For instance, when first going to a new
class full of people, or even a job interview. Isn t it crazy how one small conversation with
someone you don t know can change your total perspective on them? Personally, it happened to
me so many times and the people I thought were weird turned out to be one of the coolest people
I know. Let s stop judging a book by it s cover and actually read it and interpret it s true meaning.
Kwame Anthony Appiah, who is the author of the book Cosmopolitanism is also the Laurance S.
Rockefeller University Professor of Philosophy and a member of the University center for
Human Values. Appiah believes that conversation can help end separation and boundaries
people have around the world. Conversation can allow for cultural exchange, acceptance and
resolve differences. After reading Making Conversation and the Primacy of Practice I believe
conversation works as a positive model for resolving and managing world problems to a certain
extent, depending on the individual/people you are talking to. Overall, some people you will try
to converse with may be hard headed and so stuck on their views and others will be willing to
compromise. Either way, conversation opens doors to new thoughts, perspectives, and voices to
unheard views.
Just like in math, there are so many ways to solve a problem. Just

Honor and Glory
The idea of obtaining honor and glory are what Greek characters dedicate their lives to. The Greeks
lived by a heroic code, which shaped their society. Being remembered, as a great warrior, is one of
the highest honors a Greek soldier can obtain. Honor and glory are the cause of the Trojan War,
which takes the lives of many men. Honor and Glory are what define the hero in the epic poem,
The Iliad, written by Homer. Throughout the Iliad, honor and glory is the motivation behind the
characters, there are different ways to obtain honor and glory, and the different views of honor
throughout the epic poem.
The idea of honor and glory are essential to understanding the motivation behind the characters in
the Iliad. Glory was gained by the heroic actions and deeds. The best opportunity to gain honor
was during a battle. A warrior would try and obtain honor during the battle, no matter the cost. The
importance of honor can be seen in Hector s final battle when he says, Let me not then die
ingloriously and without a struggle, but let me first do some great thing that shall be told among
men hereafter. (Homer, Iliad 22.232) Hector has accepted that he will die at the hand of Achilles.
However, he wishes to be remembered as a great warrior of Troy. Hector does not wish to have his
live spared, but rather he wishes to do some honorable deed and die with honor and glory. Glory

Touching Spirit Bear Change
Cole Matthews Journey of Change
What is a crime? An action or omission that constitutes an offense that may be prosecuted by the
state and is punishable by law. Cole Matthews is classified as a criminal. We see him commit
numerous crimes throughout Touching Spirit Bear, such as, breaking into a hardware store,
trashing that same hardware store, assaulting Peter Driscal, etc. Our intuition of Cole Matthews at
the beginning of the book is not very pleasant but, as we read on, we see how Cole Matthews
does change into a more responsible and calm individual. Cole Matthews is obviously responsible
for this change but, there were many other people that had a vast influence on him. By examining

When Cole had first reached island, Edwin had given advice to Cole about how to live on the
island, Nobody s going to babysit you here. If you eat you ll live. If not, you ll die. This land can
provide for you or kill you. Winters are long. Cut plenty of wood or you ll freeze. Keep things
dry, because wet kills. This island is covered with Devil s Club. Don t grab it or hundreds of tiny
thistles will infect your hands and make them swell up like sausages. The stream over there is
where you get fresh water, (17). By giving this advice, it is clear that Edwin wants Cole to be
safe on the island. Edwin had even built a shelter for Cole on the island. Edwin had left Drake, his
homeland, and came to Minneapolis just to attend Cole s Circle Justice meetings, which shows his
determination to help Cole. At a Circle Justice meeting, after Cole had attempted to kill the Spirit

everyone s perspective on Cole and his identity, People change two ways with slow persistence
pressure, or with a single and sudden traumatic experience. That s why people often change so
much when they have a near death experience. I believe something significant happened to Cole

anger, such, dipping into the pond in the morning and carrying the ancestor rock, Happiness, like

This would also be very consistent with Starbucks guiding principles that state: Embrace diversity
as an essential component in the way we do business .6 Moreover, the American coffee company
will have to face the Chinese increasing national pride to avoid Western brands, which makes it
even harder for Starbucks to establish a strong and positive image in the long term. Furthermore,
their target customers and therewith their probable locations are limited to the major cities and the
coastal urban areas. But within these areas, Starbucks has a good potential, since a growing
number of young, trendy people are willing to spend more money on luxury goods, as the
Starbucks products are in China. In this context, tourists also capture an increasingly important
position, since they are more and more traveling to China and hence are possible Starbucks clients
as well. Additionally, the middle class starts to earn more money and thus also represents a potential
future consumer. As a result of the growing amount of prospective customers and so copycats, it
could be a challenge for the global company that the market suddenly is oversaturated, since coffee
still remains anything but the Chinese favorite beverage.

Using An Organized Approach To Crime Scene Investigations
A successful investigation is everything in a police department, to the victim, and the family of
the victim. A successful investigation will more than likely result in justice, even some peace to
all those wronged by those events. An investigation is an investigator most important job. A lot
goes into an investigation, endless hours working the scene, canvassing, interviewing, chasing
leads but its success is the best reward. In an organized approach to Crime Scene Investigations
there are three basic and simple stages in properly processing the crime scene. Those stages
consist of Scene Recognition, which is determining if a crime has been committed or not, Scene
Documentation and Evidence Collection. An organized approach is a sequence of established
and excepted duties and protocols. The region or jurisdiction and population will determine the
amount of resources the department will be able to use on a specific case. The type of crime also

learned the previous year. Although there are academic benefits to a year round schedule schools
should continue to operate on a 10 month 36 week schedule because it is traditional.

The Fight For Women s Rights
In pre civil war America women were thought of as subordinate to men and thus had less rights
than free black men. African American and White women had similar political positions and
rights besides the fact that white women could own slaves with their family. They even performed
the same jobs when it came to house work. Black slaves were thought of to have 3/5s a vote in the
senate while women had none. Abolitionist and anti slavery movements arose along with the
thought that people should rally to abolish slavery and give free slaves rights. It was never before
a movement to fight for women s rights and thus educated women began to realize they must fight
for their own rights.

The first convention dedicated to women s rights was in Seneca Falls, New York in 1848. It
spanned both the 19th and 20th of July. This convention was run by two women, Elizabeth Cady
Stanton and Lucretia Mott and organized by Mary M Clintock. This event attracted approximately
one three hundred people, the majority being women. At this convention a modified draft of the
Preamble to the Declaration of Independence was drawn and stated, We hold these truths to be self
evident: that all men and women are created equal. The title of this modification is known to be
Declaration of Sentiments, Grievances, and Resolutions , written by Elizabeth Stanton. Thirteen
resolutions were made including that a man should not withhold a woman s rights, take her
property or refuse to allow her to vote, and sacred right of franchise. The revision of the
Declaration of Independence received signatures from female and male supporters. Sixty eight of
the signers were women and 32 were men, including Frederick Douglass. Although the Seneca Falls
Convention was the first women s rights convention in America, it was inspired by the World Anti
Slavery Convention in 1840 in London. This convention invited women but did not allow them to
speak their opinions. Lucretia Mott expressed the hypocrisy of this in her diary and thus sparked

Hamlet Soliloquies Analysis
All seven soliloquies in the play are based on several common themes such as death, incest, pain,
fear, emptiness of existence, and pride and hypocrisy that make us human. To create these themes
and further develop character, Shakespeare uses certain techniques. First of all, Shakespeare
employs blank verse to create a smooth flowing rhythm and cadence. He masterfully switches back
and forth between fast and slow pace by utilizing both short choppy sentences and fluent long ones.
Secondly, it is clear that the soliloquies do not waste any word. Each syllable and sound adds depth
to the development of Hamlet. Each soliloquy successfully conveys to the reader Hamlet s state of
mind and intensity of his emotion. Most importantly, the soliloquies reveal something special that
the play itself does no t. Just by looking at the play separately, it i s very hard for readers to notice
the character development that Hamlet goes through. For instance, the beginning soliloquies prove
that Hamlet is indecisive and irresolute. Thus, it i s the soliloquy found in each aAct of the play
that readers can watch Hamlet grow internally.
As an uptight and hypersensitive individual, Hamlet never seems to reveal much about his thoughts
throughout the whole play. In fact, since Hamlet is inclined to express his emotions in a physically
interactive way, including his abusive interaction with his mother and aggressive physical contact
with Laertes and Claudius, it is rather difficult for the audience to interpret his intentions and his
thoughts. His soliloquies, however, are the only ways in which the audience can finally gain an
understanding of his thoughts. This soliloquy, also being the first, reveals him to be thoroughly
disgusted with Gertrude, Claudius, and the world in general. This is when the King Claudius and
Queen Gertrude urges Hamlet in the open court to cast off the deep melancholy which, as they
think, has taken possession of his mind as a consequence of his father s death. In their opinion,
Hamlet has sufficiently grieved for his father s death already. Prior to the soliloquy, King Claudius
and Queen Gertrude announce their marriage, as according to them, the court cannot afford
excessive grief, which further saddens

The Hundred Flowers Campaign began in 1957 when Mao Zedong declared in a speech, Let a

Chinese Communist Party. After members began pointing out where the party had made mistakes,
however, Mao suddenly reversed this new policy and began the Anti Rightist Movement,

Mao s retaliation was severe, precise, and on an enormously large scale. He was obviously poised
to attack, and this hints that the Hundred Flowers Campaign was merely a wily method of enticing
Mao s prey.
There is, on the other hand, much evidence to support that the campaign was a genuine attempt at
reform. In his Contradictions speech, given to leading party workers in early 1957, Mao
complained of the oppressive way some party officials were applying policies and hinted that it was
time to begin permitting intellectuals to voice their opinions. Furthermore, in 1956, he had been
tolerant of Hu Feng, a writer who challenged the idea that all artistic merit should be judged based
on Marxist Leninist values, even as other CCP leaders viciously censured him. These two examples
show that Mao, although previously disdainful of intellectuals, may have begun to see their
importance, and thus may have been honestly inviting their criticism when the Hundred Flowers
Campaign began.
In addition, the launching of the Hundred Flowers Campaign may have been triggered by events in
other communist states rather than a desire to trick party opponents. In 1956, Soviet Union leader
Nikita Khrushchev launched an attack on the previous leader Joseph Stalin, dead now for three
years, and his cult of personality, Mao probably saw how his own popularity adulating portraits of

Rorschach Test And Its Impact On The Field Of Psychology
Abstract
The Rorschach test, used first in 1918, has been the center of much controversy in the field of
psychology. This particular test uses print inkblots in order to test many factors within clients based
on how they answer when asked about the pictures. Although Hermann Rorschach never made it
known where he got the idea for the Rorschach test, it is believed it was inspired by the game Blotto,
which was a game which used inkblots. The Rorschach test was originally used to test patients with
schizophrenia during which Rorschach discovered that these patients responded significantly in a
different way from others without schizophrenia. Later, Rorschach began working more with the
test using forty inkblots in his original studies but only using fifteen of them commonly with his
clients. Today, this test is used by highly trained professionals who are studying personality based
on scoring clients answers to questions about the inkblots. (Framingham, 2016)
History of the Rorschach Test
The Rorschach test, which was first administered in 1918, is one of the most controversial
psychological tests in the history of psychology. This particular test uses print inkblots in order to

created by Herman Rorschach. Although Rorschach never made it known where the inspiration for

Assignment #3 Option 2 The Human Genome Project
Tuesday November 17, 2015
What makes one person differ from the other? Is it physical appearance, personality or mentality?
These three factors separate each individual from one another and it is what makes them different.
Physical appearance, personality and mentality are made up from the same building blocks which
are known as DNA sequences. DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid), is a self replicating material that is
found throughout every living organism. It s a large macromolecule that transforms characteristics
into life. DNA is made up two strands that run in opposite directions therefore they are known to be
antiparallel. The lagging strand runs in the 5 3 direction while the leading strand run s in the 3 5
direction (International Baccalaureate Organization, 2009). There s a phosphate group attached by
a covalent bond to the carbon atom which is covalently attached to a nucleotide base. The two DNA
strands are attached to each other by hydrogen bonds. There are two hydrogen bonds found between
Thymine and Cytosine and three hydrogen bonds found between Guanine and cytosine
(International Baccalaureate Organization, 2009). Many studies have been done in order to gather
information about the human DNA. The sequence of base paring in DNA was determined by The

What are faecal coliforms? These are microscopic bacteria which originate from human waste. In

however in the case of the following article, faecal coliforms were found in the ice of the Starbucks

(Rainy, 2017)
Article Analysis:
The scandal affecting Starbucks in this particular article directly links to the business topic of
marketing and more specifically, the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) no.68 of 2008. Traces of
faecal bacteria do not belong in beverages. What this scandal says about the Starbucks franchise is
that it is negligent, unsanitary and ultimately does not care for the well being of its consumers.
According to the CPA, which is a legal document that protects the rights of consumers, Consumers
have the right to fair value, good quality and safety of goods and services . Unfortunately, the
scandal in the article is an infringement of those rights because the iced coffee at Starbucks was of
poor quality and had the potential to make customers very sick.
The following is not mentioned in the article; however, I think that after such an infringement, that
particular Starbucks franchise will most probably be under close surveillance and have
spontaneous checks from the food industry regulators from the UK. This will negativity affect staff
as they will always be feeling on edge.
In addition to that, Starbucks will have to also make an effort and spend money in terms of
minimizing the effects of the negative publicity it gained. Not only was the brand exposed, but it
was exposed of national television in the UK. Such exposure will reduce consumer confidence
because the buyers behaviour has been negatively influenced

The New U.s. Shipping Act Of 1984
The new U.S. Shipping Act, signed into law by President Reagan on March 10, 1984. The

of the things which the Shipping Act of 1984 were different were that markets, industry,

of 1916 made all conference agreements subject to approval by the Federal Maritime Commission,

Although U.S. law has acknowledged the constructive role of conferences in the liner trades since
the Shipping Act of 1916, the American commitment to free trade and competition has led
Congress to disallow many features of international conferences. Most importantly, the Shipping
Act of 1916 required shipping conferences transporting the foreign commerce of the United States
to offer membership to any liner carrier capable of engaging in such service. U.S. conferences are
therefore termed open conferences . A conference agreement had to meet a strict antitrust standard

business to engage the most effective components and recognize the importance of communication
to make informed, accurate decisions (McGrath, 2001). This system can organize the company s
knowledge resources, knowledge obtaining, organizing, and applying to make a sound routine the
will enforce effectiveness (Niu, 2008). The dynamic function of knowledge management to create,
capture, and apply knowledge to achieve an organization s objective will allow them to be more
profitable and successful (Zucker, 1986). In addition to increasing profits, the system can be also
used to reduce costs and enhance research and development (DeTienne Jackson, 2001). With all of
these advantages, it would be wasteful for a company to not employ knowledge management. As
seen in the Discovery Communications, Inc. example, the company can attribute their new
productivity levels and increase in ease of securing documents to the knowledge management
system that put into place by Carefree Technology. Like Discovery Communications, Inc.,
knowledge management is so popular today because companies can collect, process and share
knowledge to ignite employees creativity which in turn will make the business grow. Wenhong and

What Is America A Land Of Opportunity
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said America is another name for opportunity . My vision of
America is a place where citizens have a chance for success. Even though everyone cannot be a
millionaire, that does not mean that you have to live on the streets. It should not matter if you are
a farmer, a lawyer, a veteran, or even an everyday average person, they all have the opportunity to
live the American Dream. This is why I envision America as a land of opportunity and success. In
the countryside, during the middle of summer, there are small farmers tending to their gardens one
the side of the road while there is a large commercial agriculturist planting and managing the crops
for the harvest on the other side. Along with farmers,

Lindbergh Case Study
The Lindbergh Case was one in which the whole world seemed to be following in 1932. Charles
Jr. was so easily swept away from his room and family in the middle of the night with little clues
to tell what and how it happened. This meant the involvement of the Criminal Justice System was
needed to try and find out who had taken their baby. These components include the Police, Court,
and eventually Corrections. Starting with the Police, or the detectives on the scene of the
abduction. For this particular incident there was involvement with New Jersey Police, New York
Police, and the F.B.I which at times caused some confusion. The detectives on the scene found
little evidence initially, this included a Ransom note and a broken ladder with some footprints
outside the house. Once reading the ransom note they found that it was written in a very childish
tone and a lot was misspelled. The Lindbergh family received many other Ransom notes in time
and found out that it was clear the abductor had planned this for a long time. Detectives working
the case also had to look into all possible suspects in the kidnapping, It started with the family
members themselves in which they had to take in all aspects, including Anne Lindbergh s sister
Elizabeth who was seen as physically and mentally ill. Next the three staff members of the estate
were looked into with great detail, including Betty Gow who was the last to see Charles Jr. In his
room, because of this her boyfriend was looked into

Kidd Blackmails Haven Summary And Analysis
Basic Story The film begins with Tracy Lord whose wedding plans are foiled by the arrival of
her of her ex husband, Dexter Haven, and two journalists who pose as Dexter s friends ( Connor
and Imbrie). Tracy was married to Haven, but divorced him because he did not measure up to
her standards and he was a drunk. She was now marrying Kittredge who is a wealthy public
figure. Tracy does not want her wedding in the newspaper because it is a private affair.
However, Sidney Kidd, ,the publisher of Spy Magazine, makes Connor and Imbrie cover the
story. Kidd blackmails Haven, who is employed by the magazine to get Connor and Imbrie into
the wedding in exchange of withholding a story about Tracy s father s infidelity and being able to
get revenge... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tracy has high standards for herself and the people around her. In the beginning of the movie,
we see Tracy wearing a pant suit. This indicates a sense of dominance. The first traditional
feminine outfit that Tracy wears is when she is mocking the idea of the model hostess.2 The
ruffles on the dress represent foolishness and her distaste of the situation; she was pretending to
be someone she was not. When Tracy feels weak and powerful less, she is half dressed like in a
swimsuit. However when she is dressed up in elaborate gowns, she is calm and vigorous. The
dress she wears for the party before the day of the wedding was the most beautiful gown she s
worn in the movie, she exceeds the expectations for herself of being powerful and of high class.
However, the color of the gown (white) represents that the internal battle Tracy is having on
whether to marry George or do the right thing. Her wedding dress is a mixture of
dominance, similar to her pant suits, and a sense of helplessness. The broad shoulders of her dress
represents that she is not willing to settle for her happiness, but the loose and flowy parts of her
dress represent the feeling of not wanting to disappoint her loved

Depending on the developing process of coal industry, it seems that it is too early to talk about the development of industrial heritage of coal in China. However, in fact, industrial heritage of coal has already become an infant industry in this country. For example, Haizhou Colliery in Liaoning province is the biggest open pit coalmine in Asia. It was explored in 1897, and in 1953, this colliery was used again after Second World War and Civil War. It was the first modern, mechanized and electrified open pit in China. Nevertheless, by the year of 2005, coalresource exhaustion caused the close of the colliery and this big open pit was abandoned. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are external and internal motivations for industrial transformation from coal industry to industrial heritage of coal in China below. The external reasons decide the necessity of industrial transformation of coal industry. And the internal motivations emphasize the value of industrial heritage of coal. In terms of external factors, coal resource depletion and environment contamination are the main reasons for industrial transformation. Specifically, coal, oil and natural gas are non renewable resources in the world. Even if China is abundant in coal resource, due to much exploiting of coal, it has declined sharply. The production of coal resource cannot meet the demand for coal in the development of industrialization. Until now, China has become the world s largest coal importer. By the year of 2012, China imported 289 million tonnes. Oppositely, Japan, as the second largest coal importer, had 184 million tonnes imported coal. In the UK, the number of imported coal was 45 million tonnes in the same year. China Coal Market Development Blue Book 2010 maintained the reasons that could affect coal import and export. Of these people, women make up a majority of this group (Gotlib Hammen, 2008) among men and women, it is a 1:2 ratio (Kessler, 2003). Depression is responsible for both social and economic disability among other mental and behavioral disorders during early and middle adulthood (Goodman Tully, 2008; Wilhelm, 2006). During this period in life, women are most likely mothers and are still supremely primary caretakers for children (Goodman Tully, 2008; Lamb, 2000). Depression can negatively affect the quality of interpersonal relationships, including spouses and children (Hammen, 2008). Mothers have the most contact and influence of a child s caretaking. If a mother is depressed, that influence would be more impressionable than if the child s father was depressed in terms of the child s ability to internalize and externalize problems (Goodman Tully, 2008; Connell Goodman, 2002). Children with clinically depressed mothers have been shown to experience withdrawn or negative interactions with their mothers that can subsequently lead to behavioral problems (Turney, 2011; Turner Lloyd, 1999). Depression in mothers can have detrimental consequences on the relationship that a mother has with their child and the child s future health. One of the greatest risk factors for depression in children ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing Meso And South American Mythology In Meso and South American mythology, Jaguars were both admired and feared and often extensively integrated into stories and religious traditions and rituals. Shamans of this area that were believed to be able to take the form of these large predators, known as were jaguars, were feared due to their ability to make contact with dangerous spirits and other harmful forces, which had a profound impact on Mesoamerican beliefs. Due to Jaguars being the most powerful and aggressive predator to inhabit these areas, they were additionally associated with fertility, royalty, the Earth, and even included in myths of creation and cataclysms. The Mayans even believed the sun god, Ahau Kin, would become the Jaguar god while he spent time in the Underworld during the time between the sunset and sunrise. From cultural adaptations, the creation of social classes, technological advancements, the spread of languages, and so on. We know about all of these progressions simply because of anthropology. Apparently, a group of archaeologists had the same thought, and were able to re create and build one of the Catalhoyuk houses in a site near Mira Stevanovic, according to Ian Hodder. What is certain, however, is that if the First Emperor gave the orders to build the Great Wall, it was not built as we know it today. The walls would have been made of stones or earth, depending on what was more readily available. The philosophies of the time included Confucianism and Legalism, as simplified by modern scholar Arthur Waley in his book, Three Ways of Thought in Ancient China. Confucianism was considered bad and impractical, based on the idea that it was ruler based and hind sighted. The Legalists were considered good and practical because the administrations they set up were run by qualified men, used agriculture to stimulate the economy, and created clear laws. • 12. Evidence Based Outcomes And Utilizing Findings Evidence Based Outcomes and Utilizing Findings Evidenced based practice (EBP) is now considered to be best practice but, although great strides have been made in applying the research in practice, there is still progress to be made. EBP is central to delivering the highest quality healthcare and ensuring the best outcomes for patients. However, EBP guiding the practice in healthcare systems is not the norm in many healthcare systems across the United States (Melnyk Fineout Overholt, 2011). The most overwhelming evidence for using EBP in practice is that is provides better outcomes in patients and provides a higher quality of care. Therefore, patients are more satisfied, healthcare costs are reduced and there is a reduction in differences in delivery of care according to geographic area (Melnyk Fineout Overholt, 2011). Evidence based practice is defined by Polit and Beck (2012) as a practice that involves making clinical decisions on the best available evidence which is usually from disciplined research, while research utilization is using an aspect of a study for something else unrelated to the original research. The two terms are sometimes used synonymously but there is a distinct difference. In research utilization the emphasis is on translating the information into real word applications. Evidence based practice (EBP) is broader than research utilization and incorporates research findings with other factors (Polit Beck, 2012). Many factors work to either facilitate ... • 15. Asexual And Sexual Evolution Similarities The main difference between asexual and sexual evolution is the process in which new individuals are created. With asexual organisms reproduction involves creating an exact copy of the parent often by itself. Sexual reproduction, on the other hand, involves meiosis and the fusion of an egg and sperm from two separate parents in order to create a new, unique individual. This causes vast differences in the evolutionof each. The most prominent disadvantage of sexual evolution is the fact that two individuals of opposite sexare required to reproduce as this makes the process much slower in rate and causes vast challenges from the environment due to limited resources and parents. Asexual reproduction, however, has the ability to duplicate alone and has a extremely fast and effective rate of reproduction. The disadvantages that come with this are major as a single, harmful mutation can be passed through an entire family tree through copying errors with little to no variation. Muller s Ratchet theory explains how damaging mutations in an asexual species will eventually cause the population to become extinct while a sexual species will overcome this as its offspring have variation which could keep a gene free of the harmful mutations through evolution. This variation is the main reason sexual reproduction has evolved so vastly and effectively. The first bilateral flatworms had huge impact on many future animal designs and sex strategies because they were one of the first species to branch off starting the tree of bilateral species on earth making them bilaterians earliest ancestor. This is important to understanding how and why many bilateral animals have evolved to what they are today. The most important aspect about the flatworms innovative design is the placement of the brain and eyes connected by a central nervous system. The purpose of having its brain and eyes at the head of the body makes it very effective for tracking and hunting prey and resources. This innovative structure created a new body plan that many predators and prey would come to follow in evolution. One animal that I found interesting, in terms of extreme innovations to reproduction, was the Jacana Birds and their method of polyandry, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He taught those who listened about the 8 important blessings to guide us to soon be living an everlasting life with God in His kingdom above. Some of the Beatitudes influence us to feel compassion towards those who have wronged us, to be able to act out of the goodness of our hearts, and to bring peace and harmony to friends and enemies in times of disagreement. These Beatitudesare significant to us as Christians, for they shall enlighten us with Jesus teachings for a virtuous and moral life here on earth and above. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy is the fifth beatitude that Jesus had said on the Mount. This Beatitude means to show forgiveness to those who have wronged you and to always be compassionate and sympathetic towards them. (26) Genocides, such as that of the Amerindians, show this grotesque train of thought in human beings. The dehumanization and murder of the Native Americans was nothing more than an action made by the Europeans to show their superiority they believed they possessed. Throughout history, this behavior can be seen in many tyrannical communities, such as those that ruled over the Armenians, Jews, Gypsies, Tbos, Bengalis, Timorese, Cambodians, Ugandans, and others. (4) Although many people argue that a variety of diseases killed the unexposed Indians, it is proven that mass murders killed off a majority of native people. David E. Stannard defends this argument by giving samples of evidence that suggest that the carnage of the Indians reflects very similarly with the holocaustof the Jewish people in Nazi Germany. Stannard brings up valid justification to his argument by comparing the two acts of cruelty. Stannard shows the similarities of labor for the Jews and Indians by giving an example of the strenuous work both were demanded to do. In both cases, from the so called silver mountain of Potosi in the sixteenth century Andes to the synthetic rubber factory of Auschwitz in the 1940 s, the slave drivers calculated that it was cheaper to work people to death by the tens of thousands and then replace them than it was to maintain and feed a permanent captive labor ... • 27. Honor And Glory By Homer Steven Exum Mr. Lipscomb AP Literature and Composition, B Period October 5, 2015 Honor and Glory The idea of obtaining honor and glory are what Greek characters dedicate their lives to. The Greeks lived by a heroic code, which shaped their society. Being remembered, as a great warrior, is one of the highest honors a Greek soldier can obtain. Honor and glory are the cause of the Trojan War, which takes the lives of many men. Honor and Glory are what define the hero in the epic poem, The Iliad, written by Homer. Throughout the Iliad, honor and glory is the motivation behind the characters, there are different ways to obtain honor and glory, and the different views of honor throughout the epic poem. The idea of honor and glory are essential to understanding the motivation behind the characters in the Iliad. Glory was gained by the heroic actions and deeds. The best opportunity to gain honor was during a battle. A warrior would try and obtain honor during the battle, no matter the cost. The importance of honor can be seen in Hector s final battle when he says, Let me not then die ingloriously and without a struggle, but let me first do some great thing that shall be told among men hereafter. (Homer, Iliad 22.232) Hector has accepted that he will die at the hand of Achilles. However, he wishes to be remembered as a great warrior of Troy. Hector does not wish to have his live spared, but rather he wishes to do some honorable deed and die with honor and glory. Glory came as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Hamlet Soliloquies Analysis All seven soliloquies in the play are based on several common themes such as death, incest, pain, fear, emptiness of existence, and pride and hypocrisy that make us human. To create these themes and further develop character, Shakespeare uses certain techniques. First of all, Shakespeare employs blank verse to create a smooth flowing rhythm and cadence. He masterfully switches back and forth between fast and slow pace by utilizing both short choppy sentences and fluent long ones. Secondly, it is clear that the soliloquies do not waste any word. Each syllable and sound adds depth to the development of Hamlet. Each soliloquy successfully conveys to the reader Hamlet s state of mind and intensity of his emotion. Most importantly, the soliloquies reveal something special that the play itself does no t. Just by looking at the play separately, it i s very hard for readers to notice the character development that Hamlet goes through. For instance, the beginning soliloquies prove that Hamlet is indecisive and irresolute. Thus, it i s the soliloquy found in each aAct of the play that readers can watch Hamlet grow internally. As an uptight and hypersensitive individual, Hamlet never seems to reveal much about his thoughts throughout the whole play. In fact, since Hamlet is inclined to express his emotions in a physically interactive way, including his abusive interaction with his mother and aggressive physical contact with Laertes and Claudius, it is rather difficult for the audience to interpret his intentions and his thoughts. His soliloquies, however, are the only ways in which the audience can finally gain an understanding of his thoughts. This soliloquy, also being the first, reveals him to be thoroughly disgusted with Gertrude, Claudius, and the world in general. This is when the King Claudius and Queen Gertrude urges Hamlet in the open court to cast off the deep melancholy which, as they think, has taken possession of his mind as a consequence of his father s death. In their opinion, Hamlet has sufficiently grieved for his father s death already. Prior to the soliloquy, King Claudius and Queen Gertrude announce their marriage, as according to them, the court cannot afford excessive grief, which further saddens ... He was obviously poised to attack, and this hints that the Hundred Flowers Campaign was merely a wily method of enticing Mao s prey. There is, on the other hand, much evidence to support that the campaign was a genuine attempt at reform. In his Contradictions speech, given to leading party workers in early 1957, Mao complained of the oppressive way some party officials were applying policies and hinted that it was time to begin permitting intellectuals to voice their opinions. Furthermore, in 1956, he had been tolerant of Hu Feng, a writer who challenged the idea that all artistic merit should be judged based on Marxist Leninist values, even as other CCP leaders viciously censured him. These two examples show that Mao, although previously disdainful of intellectuals, may have begun to see their importance, and thus may have been honestly inviting their criticism when the Hundred Flowers Campaign began. In addition, the launching of the Hundred Flowers Campaign may have been triggered by events in other communist states rather than a desire to trick party opponents.
