Analysis Of The Annenberg Learner, Video On Demand Series...
In the Annenberg Learner, Video on Demand series session 6, Evolution and the tree of life, various
professors or scholars discussed the evolution of life. The session began with a beautiful photograph
of Harvard University of Natural History. Next, a narrator introduced the Museum of Comparative
Zoology located in the basement of Harvard. The basement holds the reptile and amphibian collection.
The narrator pointed out that the century old jars containing specimens of bodies along with their
DNAs carry clues that help scientists to reveal how evolution has shaped and reshaped the living
planet also how to make sense of life. Dr. Linda Grisham of Lesley University then highlighted the
topics to be explored. Namely, what is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

rodent creatures. Dr. Grisham then stated a question that she believed many students might ask that is
why there are so many different types of living things? We then joined Ms. E Abraham in the science

Anglo Saxon Women In Beowulf
The Ones With Power During Angle Saxon times, women played a modest but significant role. From
the few women that are mentioned in Beowulf, the position of women in Anglo Saxon society is
visible. The women that appeared in Beowulf include Freawaru, Hildeburh, Hygd, and Modthyrth,
however the most important women in the poem are Wealhtheow and Grendel s mother. Women held
considerable power both in physical strength, such as Grendel s mother, and in influence, for example
the Danish Queen Wealhtheow. In The Roles of Anglo Saxon Women it says that their role choices
were nearly limited to mother, wife, caregiver, and teacher. Burrell gives an inside look at the life and
the surprising equality of the genders. Women in the Anglo Saxons were able to own land and
generally had the same rights. Everything that a married couple owned was shared equally and before
they married the fiancé would present his offering to the wife to be s father. Burrell said, If the man is
rich, he would give his wife his land, estate and everything that came with the manor. Furthermore,
oxen, cows, horses, and slaves were given to make the agreement more enticing, (Burrell). The wives
in this culture had many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Singh s words, Had it not been for Beowulf killing her son, Grendel s mother would never have
presented herself in a violent manner to the soldiers. Her attack is a direct result and avenging of
Grendel s death. The people of Heorot were ignorant of her for her peaceful nature, had it not been for
Grendel attacking, neither one of them would have even had a name. Grendel s mother was grieving
the loss of her son but she stepped up and took a role, which is typically saved for the males, to take
revenge. Grendel s mother also takes on the role of male nobility in that she, not Grendel, is the ruler
of her realm, the mere as revealed by Harris. Here she takes another masculine stereotype as

Analysis Of Alcoa s Core Practices
Introduction
Last year, the community of Ferndale was in chaos over the upcoming curtailment of Alcoa Intalco
Aluminum Works. This company strongly invested in its community ranging from charity works and
investments to different scholarships offered for the vast beneficial of the community so when the
rumor started, every employee suffered the upcoming turmoil with hard work, dedications that
exceeded expectations, continuous loyalty and grace. Over 500 jobs were hanging in the balance and
the epidemic vast increase in mortgage rates, rents, energy crisis and economical markets and growth

as one thought but somehow, the company came ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On May 2000, Alcoa executives entertained the idea of building a power plant for Intalco however
resulted in selling its power back to BPA, supposedly to help cover the energy crisis which is the plant
s most challenging aspect of its business. BPA pays for the wages and benefits of nearly all the
workers, plus $1.75 million to cover Intalco s tax burden, in 2001 as reported in The Bellingham
Herald printed on the August 2016 article. In 2002, it reopened two potlines that were idle for 6
months which a year later were forced to shut down again due to high energy cost. This move did cost
200 employees out of a job. In 2006, Alcoa Inc. became the full owner of Alcoa Intalco Works after
buying out its partners and later signed a five year contract with BPA for its 450 employees, and
eventually re opened the second potline. In 2008, there was a contiguity for budget cuts including 100
jobs due to low demands in aluminum which later increased in 2009 after BPA and Alcoa Intalco
agreed over enough low cost power to last another seven years.
Alcoa created its aluminum using a process called Hall Herould through electrolysis since aluminum
is highly reactive, also requires a lot of power. This single aluminum plant uses as much electricity as
the city of Tacoma to produce billet, foundry, T ingot, and standard ingot. The company currently
spends a lot of money researching ways to use less power. It, however, still takes an

Screen s Influence On American Culture
American Culture and the Screen s Influence
During the 1920s, movies grew in popularity in the United States due to their affordability and
availability. This led to a general curiosity about the actors lives themselves and gave Hollywood a
harsh reputation due to all of the scandals that occurred. In the 1950s, movies declined in their
popularity and the American public turned their attention toward television. As a result, television
became an American staple and TV shows were more convenient than movies, seeing as they could be
watched without leaving the house. Now Americans can watch both movies and TV shows at home
via DVDs, and are still interested in the personal affairs of the actors and actresses involved. In
general, Americans lead ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the 1920s, the general public associated Hollywood with immorality. There were scandals like
William Desmond Taylor s and Virginia Rappe s murders. Although the two cases were not related,
many people correlated the two and other crimes within the industry. Despite this, many Americans
found themselves enraptured by the lives the actors led, the more dangerous, the more interesting.
Charlie Chaplin, a comedic actor and director, was stopped on the street constantly by rabid fans
begging for autographs. Now, most actors have or will have these issues once they reach a certain
height of fame. Charlie Chaplin was also one of the many actors accused of being a communist during
the Second Red Scare. Actors were publicized so frequently and tended to be more liberal than the
average person, so they made easy targets for the CIA during this period. Some of the trials could be
watched on TV, which also led to Americans questioning their favorite actors political beliefs in order
to be more like them, or just out of general curiosity. Actors deaths were also seen as American
tragedies. James Dean died in 1956 and Americans took it very personally, calling him a
personification of alienated American youth. He represented how teenager s values differed from their
parents throughout the 1950s but did not necessarily shape an entire generation

Hydrochloric Acid And Acetone Lab Report
Abstract
This experiment was conducted to find the rate law for the reaction of iodine with acetone. This was
found by using the method rates. The orders of acetone and hydrochloric acid is one while the order of
iodine is zero. The procedure was meant to notice the disappearance of one reactant, Iodine.
Introduction
A chemical reaction is when chemical substances are changed into other substances. When a chemical
reaction takes place, chemical bonds break and new ones are formed. Kinetics is the study of the rate
and mechanism of chemical reactions. Reaction mechanism is a series of individual chemical steps by
which an overall chemical reaction occurs 1. These mechanisms are important in deciding what is the
most efficient way of causing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The method of initial rates is a common way to find the order. For this experiment, the time it takes
for the color of iodine to disappear is measured as the initial rate of reaction. HCl was used as the acid
catalyst. An acid catalyst makes a reaction happen faster, but does not get consumed in the process.
The purpose of this experiment is to find the rate law for the reaction of iodine with acetone by using
the method rates.
Experimental
First, the following materials were gathered: Four fifty milliliter beakers, four pipets, four graduated
cylinders, about 30 mL of 4.0 M Acetone, 1.0 M HCl, and 0.005 M Iodine, a squeeze bottle filled with
distilled water, a spectrometer, and a tablet that displays the data from the spectrometer. The acetone,
hydrochloric acid, and iodine were put into three of the fifty milliliter beakers. The tablet was
connected to the spectrometer via Bluetooth. The spectrometer was calibrated for a wavelength of 410
nm. It was calibrated by filling a cuvette with water and placing it inside the spectrometer. The room
temperature was recorded. Reaction number one started off the experiment. For reaction one, as
recorded in Table 1, 3 mL of Acetone, 3 mL of HCl, 8 mL of water, and 4 mL of Iodine were measured
out into the four graduated cylinders. Then, the acetone, hydrochloric acid, and water were combined
into the last remaining fifty milliliter beaker. At the same time, the

The Recession Of The Great Recession
In 2007, the United States economy experienced a financial crisis known as the Great Recession,
which affected much of the world. It officially lasted from December 2007 to June 2009 and all began
with the bursting of an 8 trillion dollar housing bubble. A volatile mixture of financial market chaos
triggered by the housing bubble and low consumer spending left millions of Americans wondering
about their economic fate, the fate of their neighbors, and the fate of the nation.
The Great Recession, from 2007 2009, is the greatest economic downturn since the Great Depression,
from 1929 1939. In spite of its currency, much of the world doesn t know what led up to the Great
Recession, let alone what caused it. This video simplifies the housing crisis and breaks down the key
factors that attributed to the downfall of the financial market. While the recession only lasted two
years, many are still feeling its effects.

College Transfer Research Paper
The College Transfer Sucess book and ACA 122 had me doing some extensive soul searching and
decision making on what I want to do with my life and how I am going to timely and efficiently
execute it. I have made some important decisions and learned some very useful tips that I have or plan
on using in my everyday life. I intend to major in Criminology and minor in Criminal Justice at either
George Mason University, Penn State, or East Tennessee State University. My top choice right now is
George Mason University because it is extremely family oriented and is close to home. When deciding
on which colleges or universities I want to attend I took several elements into consideration, one being
cost. I am not overly concerned with paying for college since my parents have had a college savings
account set up for me since I was a baby. However, I still plan on applying for numerous scholarships,
taking out loans, and acquiring financial aid. Since I am only a sophomore, I will be applying to all of
these the fall of my senior year. However, I have already started preparing by completing practice

Target Market Strategy
Based on the research of Coffeeberry and situation analysis, the core customers are nearby residents
and students from University of La Verne. Therefore, the volume of customers is roughly around
5000. Coffeeberry is located in old town La Verne, and right next to University of La Verne. The very
basic reason why Coffeeberry pick up this location is because it is a downtown area and a lot of
businesses are centered here, where people living nearby and students from the university hang out.
The competitors, who also offer coffee products, including Circle K, Starbucks, McDonald s and Miss
Donut Bagel, etc.
According to the researched the demographics of City of La Verne. According to the 2012 statistical
summary of City of La Verne (ci.la verne.ca.us), population was 31,461, which means it is a very
small and private town with a very small population. The median age was 43.1, which indicates the
population consists of senior people. Besides, there were 11,366 households and median household
income was 73,541, which was higher than average household income in Los Angeles County.
Therefore, a lot of residents have more time and money to enjoy coffee in store. Meanwhile, students
from University of La Verne are very important parts of the target customers, because young college
students love to hang out with peers and enjoy coffee. Some of the students also enjoy sitting in store

New Classics of the Horror Film Genre Essay
Dracula. Frankenstein. Godzilla. These monsters no longer strike fear into the hearts of viewers as
they once did. Formerly the villains of the classic monster movie, these relics, who now represent all
that is archaic in horror film history. The monster movie of the past makes way for the thriller or

Not only do the characters not take themselves seriously, they also don t take horror movies seriously.
A day after the first murders take place, Sidney Prescott receives a cryptic phone call. However, she is
not frightened because she believes the caller to be one of her own friends Randy, a movie lover,
calling to harass her. The mysterious caller asks her why she doesn t like horror films and she replies,
What s the point? They re all the same: some stupid killer stalking some big breasted girl who can t
act and is always running up the stairs when she should be going out the front door. It s insulting. As
an audience member, I realize that this skeptical and often accurate view of horror movies is a
message directly from the film s writer and director (Riptov 86).
Later in the film, when Sidney suggests that the killer might still be on the loose, her best friend Tatem
replies, Don t go there, Sid. You re starting to sound like one of those Wes Carpenter flicks. As the
audience, we get a laugh out of this statement because not only do we know that Tatem has misnamed
Wes Craven, we also know this is a Wes Craven flick. These scenes are like inside jokes for the
viewers;

Harold En Italie Analysis
The second symphony by French composer Berlioz (1803 1869): Harold en Italie, Symphonie en
quatre parties avc un Alto principal, Op. 16 was commissioned but never performed by the Italian
violin virtuoso Paganini who had an intention to showcase his new Stradivari viola. Even though
Paganini trusted Berlioz to write suitable music for his new instrument, his disappointment about a
sketch in one of the movements led to ill fated conclusion. Unluckily, due to incompetent conductor,
plentiful wrong notes and missed entries by the orchestra, the premiere was unsatisfactory for Berlioz
who later commented it was the sheer murder . According to https://www.britannica.com/topic/Harold
in Italy Op 16, Barlioz stated, My idea was to write a series of scenes for the orchestra in which the
solo viola would be involved as a more or less active character, always retaining its own individuality.
By placing the viola in the midst of poetic recollections of my wanderings in the [Italian] Abruzzi, I
wished to make of it a sort of melancholy dreamer after the manner of Byron s Childe Harold. Thus
the title: Harold in Italy. This piece was inspired by the English poet Lord Byron (1788 1824) and his
epic narrative poem: Childe Harold s Pilgrimage, which was dedicated to his lady Charlotte Harley.
This storyline was gained after travelling through Portugal, the Mediterranean and Aegean Sea that is
why this poem was thought to be his own autobiography which revealed a lot of himself. Harold

An Unlikely Friendship Between Olivier Nakache And Eric...
Mobility, as a theme, is central to the plot of Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano s 2011 film Les
Intouchables . Although from different backgrounds, the two central characters are both, in their own
way, immobile. Driss, played by Omar Sy, suffers social immobility. Living in the banlieues of Paris
(an impoverished and often ignored area, the name for which has become pejorative, meaning slums
dominated by immigrants ), he has many social barriers which he must transcend. The immobility of
the aristocratic, quadriplegic and millionaire Phillipe, who lives in a large expensive house in a
wealthy part of Paris, is not social but physical. Phillipe, portrayed by François Cluzet, has to live his
life in a wheelchair due to a paragliding accident which left him paralysed many years ago. The tale of
an unlikely friendship between two men from opposite milieu which follows creates an interesting
film in which numerous boundaries, both social and physical, are seen to be transcended. This essay
will discuss how the theme of mobility is represented by directors Nakache and Toledano in Les
Intouchables , including a particular focus on the techniques used to highlight this theme throughout.
This can be seen, firstly, in the deliberate selection of the actors used to portray Driss and Phillipe in
order to highlight the theme of mobility in the film. Omar Sy, an actor of Senegalese descent, was
chosen to play the part of Driss in the true story inspiration upon which

The rise of seaside resorts
In 1752 Dr Richard Russell published Concerning the Use of Sea Water which led to an increase in
seaside resorts as doctors began to realise that the healing and relaxing minerals that were present in
spa waters were also to be found in the sea. Resorts such as Southend, Brighton and Blackpool began
to increase in popularity. Accommodation, catering and entertainment facilities were developed in the
resorts, some of which benefited from the introduction of steamboat services in the early nineteenth
century, a factor that led to the contribution of many of the piers still seen at seaside resorts today.

Mesopotamian Civilizations
By looking in the past, us humans can learn about how we evolved as a species over time. Two of the
most studied civilizations are the Egyptian and Mesopotamian civilizations. Even though each
civilization arose in different locations and time periods, both river system civilizations are mainly
similar regarding religion, art, writing, and architectural styles; except for a few slight differences that
are unique to each civilization. Both the Egyptian and Mesopotamian civilizations were strongly
reliant on religion, and this led both civilizations to believe in a polytheistic religion system. The
Egyptian and Mesopotamian populations believed in many gods, and associated their gods with the
natural forces that existed around them. For example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the Egyptians are most commonly known for their large architectural projects which
required an enormous labor force. Some examples include the Three Pyramids at Giza, where Khufu,
Menkaure, and Khafre were buried, The Great Sphinx, and the Stepped Pyramid at Saqqara. Likewise,
the only Mesopotamian structure that can compare to the size of the pyramids is the ziggurat.
Significance wise, both were built for religious purposes, as the ziggurat is a place of worship and
pyramids were built to immortalize the kings. Both the Egyptians and Mesopotamians developed their
own forms of writing, Hieroglyphics and Cuneiform, respectively. Hieroglyphics is the more complex
of the two, consisting of pictograms, phonograms, and determinatives, and symbols can hold a variety
of meanings depending on the context of what is being written. When looking at art forms, you can
learn many things about societal order and hierarchy. For example, when looking at Egyptian
monolithic statues, you can see clear differences in social status just by structure and build of the
piece. Kings and important officials had their statue carved out of stone materials, like granite, while
lesser figures were carved in wood. Kings often had perfect physique in their sculptures, while scribes
often looked lethargic and naturalistic. More important figures even had a

Beetroot Cell Membrane Permeability Experiment
Practical Assessment
Planning
AIM
Beetroot cells contain a red pigment, which is stored in the cell vacuole and a vacuole membrane to
prevent this leaking out of the cell surrounds it. The outer of the cell is also surrounded by a
membrane, which again helps contain the pigment inside the cell. In this experiment I aim to find out
the relationship between the leakage of red pigment from a beetroot cell and the surface area. To do
this successfully I will need to alter the surface area of the beetroot cells accurately and then measure
if any and how much dye is let out. I can hopefully then look at my results and then find a relationship
between the two factors and be able to explain exactly why any changes took place.

For this reason the water used will be at room temperature (23° approx) and will be performed on the
same day to allow no margin for any discrepancies.
Time Time is an important factor. When leaving the beetroot in the test tubes it must be ensured that
they are in the water for exactly 20 minutes each. This will make sure that the same period of time is
given for dye leakage to occur. To control this, putting the beetroot into each test tube two minutes
apart will give enough time for them to be removed before the next test tube is ready to have its
contents removed.
pH pH can affect the structure of a membrane and therefore cause it to be unable to function
efficiently. The pH s, which cause this affect, would be those that are acid or alkaline. Therefore we
must use water as our substance as it has a pH 7 and this is neutral and will have no affect on the
leakage of pigment.

This is significant for the discussion of ritual to note the difference in suburban villa house structure
verses the previously stated traditional Roman house. The Roman Villa has long been epitomized as
an elegant and luxurious refuge, and a haven removed from the commotion of everyday life. Even in
antiquity the time spent at villas were synonymous with pleasure, wealth, and leisure. As the letters of
Cicero and Pliny expressively demonstrate, the aim of every wealthy noble was to have several villas,
or country residences, preferably with immaculate views. This acceptance of more opulent style of life
has been regarded as an acculturation effect resulting from Rome s expanded rule into the western and
eastern Mediterranean, and their direct contact with the Hellenistic world. Roman aristocrats began to
desire lavish surroundings to match their sense of power and dominance. This new way of life called
for opening the house to the landscape and including gardens within the inhabited space. The Roman
Villa s clever orientation of porticos, dining rooms, and bedrooms to take advantage of particular
vistas shows that Roman aristocrats and their architects consciously included nature and the landscape
in their designs to enhance them and add a new dimension to the inhabitant s enjoyment. As one can

How Social Media Has Revolutionized The Way People Live
The term social media generally refers to communication technologies and interactive platforms, such
as Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. A further definition is given by Kaplan and Haenlein (2010) who
described it as a group of Internet based applications that allow the creation and exchange of User
Generated Content, and emphasizes that any user of social media can be a content creator and can
distribute to a network of users. In a broad term, social media is the social interaction via online

2.2.2. Social Media and Employee Voice
However, until recently, most of the organisations s social media strategy of human resource
management put emphasis on recruitment and neglect an important audience within the organisation:
their own people (CIPD, 2013). Social media could be a power tool not only for establishing external
interaction between employers and job seekers, but also for maintaining internal relationships between
employers and employees. Furthermore, technology has blurred the physical boundaries between work
and home and the recent years have seen the development of various type of employment such as
teleworkers or outsourcing (Mustafa and Gold, 2013). For example, employees knowledge,
experience, and talent are often underutilized when a workforce is dispersed over functional areas,
departments, and the globe. Moreover, the multinational corporation in the global community has
increased dramatically which means employees might have a great possibility to work across the
globe. Given the emergence of teleworkers and global workforce, an effective communication system
plays a pivotal role in managing relationship with both traditional and non traditional workers within
organisations. Thus, many businesses have increasingly adopted a virtual approach to workspace

you have brought food, or helped decorate this place, or just come to support the happy couple, thank
you. Secondly to the bridesmaids, you have done a magnificent job helping the bride today, and you

He has asked me to tell you how happy you have made him by becoming his wife, something that I

best man before, I had to spend several hours surfing the Internet to try and find out exactly what my
duties would be. So apparently the most important thing I had to do was make sure Danny got to the

The Causes Of Japanese Americans In America During And...
During and Post World War II, many Americans seemed to embrace the fear stemming from the War.
Due to the attacks on Pearl Harbor, Japanese Americans were highly discriminated against and
rounded up into interment camps during the war. Along with the historical racism of blacks, the
Japanese Americans began to be sought out and segregated from white America. As America moved
into the 1950 s and 60 s greater fear was on the minds of Americans as this time usher in the cold war
era, which was also known as the red scare. Communism was the ultimate enemy among Americans
and it showed that many citizens were afraid of being close to communist empathizers. Many
Americans were accusing their neighbors and their peers for being supportive of such ideology. Most
of these factors taking place in America from World War II up to the early 1960 s, lead to the desire of
many middle class white American s to seek new neighborhoods and to segregate them selves from
the fear they had. On top of these fears, the ability and access of which an increasing amount of
American s started to have during this period made it possible for such migration into new
neighborhoods and suburbia. Suburbs grew because of demand for new housing and space following
the war. Families were reunited and the new American dream was to own a house in the suburbs with
white picket fence and a yard for the kids to play in. Housing cost were low as ever because of the

Ancient Greece And Rome During The World
Ancient Greece and Rome are some of the most famous time periods in the world, but what influenced
them? Ancient Greece lasted roughly from 1000 400 B.C.E while ancient Rome was from 753 B.C.
476 A.D (Cole and Symes, 75). The Greek alphabet was influenced by Phoenician sea traders and
their art was mostly influenced by Egypt and western Asia. On the other hand, Rome was influenced
by the Greek and derived the alphabet, many of their religious beliefs, and much of their art (Cole and
Symes, 147). Ancient Greece and Rome were influenced by the Ancient Near East sedentary societies
through art, religion, and architecture. Greece was the first society that was male dominated . Also,
sexuality was a part of everyday life for Greeks. If home owners did not offer hospitality to certain
groups of people, then they would be sentenced to death (Garcia Lecture 2/3/16). The Greeks had
extremely strict rules with education and training. Greece is also known well for their world famous
philosophers such as Aristotle, Socrates, Plato, and much more. Ancient Rome started as a small town
in central Italy, but developed into a vast empire, including continental Europe, Britain, much of
western Asia, northern Africa and the Mediterranean islands. Although Rome was influenced by many
aspects of Greek life, they downplayed their influence in mythology, preferring to emphasize their
alleged descent from the Trojans (Cole and Symes, 147). The social structure of Rome was based on

Essay about Influential Poets of the Beat Generation
The Beat Generation of poets was created by a group of poets in the 1950s that were part of a new
culture in literature. They chose to use their experiences in their writings which were widely criticized
as well as loved by many readers. Two of the most influential Beat Poets of that Generation of writers
were Allen Ginsberg and Lawrence Ferlinghetti. The Beat Generation poetry was the first poets to
write about non conventional subjects as well as using different forms of expression in their works.
This generation of poets greatly influenced poets such as Anne Sexton, who wrote about personal
experiences as well. The Beat Generation s style of poetry have influenced many generations of poets

religion centering on the Eastern World, rejection of materialism and freedom of expression. The
members of this movement were known as non conformists and were spontaneously creative in their
writings. Thomas Merrill states that the influence of drugs in the movement was:
The incessant search for reality within (through drugs, meditation and intense feeling) was a quest for
authenticity that reason, it was felt, deadened. It called for the reconnaissance at the extremes of
human experience, as far beyond the limits of reason as possible, thus placing uncommon stress upon
subjunctive moods. (Merrill, 2) Influences of the Beat Movement can be noted in the next phase of
American History: Hippie counter culture of the 1960s. The Beat Generation was an important
political catalyst for those minorities that had no voice. The beatniks of the movement were seen as a

Fossil Fuels As A Source Of Energy
Since the evolution of science, many people have become solely dependent on a variety of
technologies to supply their essential needs of life. A key technology that people have a high level of
dependency on is fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are a source of energy people use in their everyday life as a
way to get light, electricity, and to keep warm. Fossil fuels are perceived as a nuclear energy, which
has been around for decades. Initially, scientists perceived this type of energy as affordable and safe;
however, in the late 20th century, danger of nuclear plants began to threat regions of United States.
Due to the increase of global warning from the burning of fossil fuels, climate scientists and
environmental experts are considering ways to replace nuclear energy (Ferguson). Since the world
uses fossil fuels as a source of energy supply, it would be beneficial if the world considered using
alternatives means of energy sources once all the present energy has been used up. The world would
greatly benefit from these alternatives since the production of present energy is polluting America. Yet
with the world being greatly overpopulated and having insufficient supplies of resources, scientists all
across the nation are thinking of ways to replace fossil fuels with alternative energies. Therefore, the

being merely dependent on fossil fuels, and the advantages and disadvantages of

Despite having a large agricultural land, Mississippi is still one of the poorest states in America
without enough food for its population. One of the reasons is that farming has been taken over by

parts of the world. The environment pays a big price for this, as these corporations do not find it

Depression Is Not Only A State Of Feeling Sad
Depression is not only a state of feeling sad, it is an illness that overpowers the ability to feel emotion,
whether bad or good. Depression involves the mind, and it also involves the body and thoughts. This
disorder can be passed down through genes or can be caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. A
biological cause of this disorder would be something such as enlarged adrenal glands. People who are
depressed have a lower count of neurotransmitters involved with depression. An imbalance of
hormones can also be connected to depression, therefore, when having too high of count of a hormone
related to stress in particular (cortisol), depression may occur. Unfortunately, depression affects twenty
percent of all Americans. Women are more likely to become depressed than men. Genes also have a
lot to do with Depression. While studying twins, scientists have found that there is a powerful genetic
influence in depression. Identical twins are three times more possible to have depression than fraternal
twins raised in the same environment. In lecture we discussed that rates of MDD are two times greater
in those with firs degree relatives. Symptoms caused by major depression can vary from person to

your baby around when you get to your final destination. If you are lucky enough to win the struggle
of getting the stroller in and out of your vehicle, the next task is setting it up. That can often be a
difficult task as well. If can be enough to convince any parent to not bother with the struggle and just
stay home. Lightweight ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following are some of the factors to look at during your search for a new lightweight stroller. Type
There are two types of lightweight strollers, so your first consideration should be which one of these
two will best fit your needs. The most common type of lightweight stroller is the umbrella stroller.
This type of stroller is typically the one parents envision when they consider a second stroller that is
compact enough to take on the go. This type of stroller is generally basic and does not include any
extras that are common on full sized strollers. The other type of lightweight stroller is a bit bigger than
an umbrella stroller but not as big as a standard stroller. This type of lightweight stroller generally is
more comfortable and has a few conveniences such as under seat storage and larger sunshades. Budget
As with most items you buy, price is always a consideration. Lightweight strollers have a wide price
range, depending on the features you are looking for. It is not hard to find a lightweight stroller to fit
any budget, and it is equally as easy to find one that will break your bank account. So, it is a good idea
to set your budget before you start looking for a stroller so you can easily eliminate some choices right
off the bat. Durability Just as lightweight strollers come in a variety of price ranges, they also vary in
their durability. Before you purchase a

Vikings Impact On Society
The Impact of the Vikings
Ike Sarac
While the Vikings may have existed over a thousand years ago, they have not gone forgotten. Not just
a football team has remained and effected modern culture. The Viking age has left a large impression
of the world most through their powerful military, prominent geography, historical figures, and their
complex accomplishments. Why do 21st century people feel the need to study the Vikings today?
Would the world we know today be different without the presence of these people centuries ago? Why
do Minnesotans seem to identify with these ancient people so much? The Vikings lived and explored
parts of the world that are prominent and remain to have a large impact in modern times. Norway,
Scandinavia, Sweden, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to Minnesotans, the weather conditions strengthened this group of people. Many farmers ha to
make sure they had enough food stored away to last them through to the spring. If these crops were to
fail, the threat of starvation would soon loom over them. Adding to that, these regions of the planet
helped the Vikings in their powers and successes in raiding. Most Viking movements resulted in trade
and a more prosperous economy. All in all, much like Minnesota, the geography were the Vikings
resided shaped their vivid culture. Scandinavian civilization is home to very well renowned art and
accomplishments. For example, Iceland according to The Penguin Atlas is home to some of the richest
medieval literature. Stories, legends, and myths have endured the test of time. Poetry in Skaldic and
Eddic verse are still preserved and feature a copious amount of pagan gods and valued Scandinavian
characters. The Vikings were considered to be highly skilled artists and craftworkers. Just about
everything they used was made by hand. Materials like wood, iron, clay, and iron were used to make
the majority of their everyday items. Even bone was used to make needles, and

The Seven Dispensations In The Bible
The seven dispensations are not explicitly stated in the Bible. Instead they are a Biblical interpretation
that divides the history of mankind into seven different categories. There are different versions or
interpretations of the seven dispensations, but I will explain the general understanding that is
commonly accepted. The seven dispensations are: the dispensation of innocence, the dispensation of
conscience, the dispensation of human government, the dispensation of promise, the dispensation of
law, the dispensation of grace, and the millennial kingdom of Christ. The first dispensation, innocence,
begins with the creation of man (Genesis 1:27) and ends with the fall of man (Genesis 3). This
dispensation is called innocence because Adam, the first man, was created innocent and without
knowledge of good and evil. Adam was given the authority to rule over everything of the earth, under
one condition: Adam and Eve must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. ... Show

The time period of this dispensation is 1,000 years. The responsibilities of the resurrected Old
Testament saints, glorified church, and survivors of the tribulation will be to remain obedient, remain
unified, and continue worshiping Jesus. (The Seven Dispensations) There will be peace, justice, unity,
abundance, healing, righteousness, and joy during the 1,000 year reign of Jesus on earth and satan will
be locked up in the abyss unable to escape. (The Seven Dispensations) After the 1,000 year reign is
over satan will be let out one last time to tempt Jesus s believers. The followers of satan and satan
himself will be defeated once and for all and they will all be cast into the lake of fire. The people who
are found unrighteous by Jesus on the Great White Throne will also be cast into the lake of fire. After
these things people will live and know God

Ritalin Abuse
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) first licensed methylphenidate hydrochloride in 1955 for
treating what was formerly known as hyperactivity, attention deficit disorder or ADD. The drug was
commonly prescribed in the 1990s when the diagnosis of ADHD became better known and accepted.
In 2000, Janssen Pharmaceuticals received approval from the FDA to market Concerta, an extended
release form of Ritalin. Approximately two thirds of 6.4 million children presently diagnosed have
been prescribed drugs like Ritalin or Adderall (another common CNS stimulant).
First synthesized in 1944, the Ritalin formula (at that time commonly known as MPH, from
methylphenidate) was improved in 1950, and by 1954 it was being tested on humans. In 1957, Ciba
Pharmaceutical Company began marketing MPH as Ritalin to treat chronic fatigue, depression,
psychosis associated with depression, narcolepsy, and to offset the sedating effects of other
medications. It was used into the 1960s to try to counteract the symptoms of barbiturate overdose.
Ritalin has a high potential for abuse when injected it may produce feelings of euphoria. Those who
misuse Ritalin increase the amphetamine like effects by crushing the tablets into a powder and
snorting it or dissolving it in water for intravenous injection. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

While amphetamines stimulate the release of dopamine, cocaine and Ritalin block the transporters that
reuptake dopamine into the neuron that released it. By blocking transporters, Ritalin allows more
dopamine to reach receptors, thus increasing attention signaling, which helps people with ADHD to
focus. Ritalin, when taken orally, slowly raises dopamine levels over the course of an hour or so. By
contrast, when inhaled or injected, cocaine reaches the brain in seconds, producing a

Becoming A Nurse Application Essay
My aspiration to become a nurse developed through the care I received from many nurses as a very ill
child. My goal in life is to make those in need feel as cared for and well supported as I did through a
difficult time. From the age of 13 I have been gathering experience in different medical areas to
discover what suits me best. In year 9 I was enrolled on a 3 year introduction to medicine course
which is a coalition between Sheffield University, South Yorkshire Education Department and
Sheffield Outreach and Access Medical Scheme. I was 1 of 60 to be successfully chosen to attend this
course out of over 800 applicants. During this time I learnt the basic healthcare skills such as the
ABCDE approach, handling and moving patients, dealing with penetrating trauma and how to deal
with urgent real life situations. In addition to this, I attended Sixth Form work experience at
Rotherham General Hospital. I was taught about caring for a patient, such as examination and
assessment of patients, checking the vital signs, taking blood, how to give IM/SC injections and insert
IVs. I also witnessed 2 theatre operations where I shadowed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

many ways that people can resist or accept change. Meeting many new people and hearing their

generally most connected with was buried on 14th February simply a little north of Rome, but besides
that very little is in fact know about probably the most popular saints in the annals of the church.
Actually, because so little is well known about the Valentine involved, he was taken off the Catholic

  • 3. Anglo Saxon Women In Beowulf The Ones With Power During Angle Saxon times, women played a modest but significant role. From the few women that are mentioned in Beowulf, the position of women in Anglo Saxon society is visible. The women that appeared in Beowulf include Freawaru, Hildeburh, Hygd, and Modthyrth, however the most important women in the poem are Wealhtheow and Grendel s mother. Women held considerable power both in physical strength, such as Grendel s mother, and in influence, for example the Danish Queen Wealhtheow. In The Roles of Anglo Saxon Women it says that their role choices were nearly limited to mother, wife, caregiver, and teacher. Burrell gives an inside look at the life and the surprising equality of the genders. Women in the Anglo Saxons were able to own land and generally had the same rights. Everything that a married couple owned was shared equally and before they married the fiancé would present his offering to the wife to be s father. Burrell said, If the man is rich, he would give his wife his land, estate and everything that came with the manor. Furthermore, oxen, cows, horses, and slaves were given to make the agreement more enticing, (Burrell). The wives in this culture had many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Screen s Influence On American Culture American Culture and the Screen s Influence During the 1920s, movies grew in popularity in the United States due to their affordability and availability. This led to a general curiosity about the actors lives themselves and gave Hollywood a harsh reputation due to all of the scandals that occurred. In the 1950s, movies declined in their popularity and the American public turned their attention toward television. As a result, television became an American staple and TV shows were more convenient than movies, seeing as they could be watched without leaving the house. Now Americans can watch both movies and TV shows at home via DVDs, and are still interested in the personal affairs of the actors and actresses involved. In general, Americans lead ... Although the two cases were not related, many people correlated the two and other crimes within the industry. Despite this, many Americans found themselves enraptured by the lives the actors led, the more dangerous, the more interesting. Charlie Chaplin, a comedic actor and director, was stopped on the street constantly by rabid fans begging for autographs. Now, most actors have or will have these issues once they reach a certain height of fame. Charlie Chaplin was also one of the many actors accused of being a communist during the Second Red Scare. Actors were publicized so frequently and tended to be more liberal than the average person, so they made easy targets for the CIA during this period. Some of the trials could be watched on TV, which also led to Americans questioning their favorite actors political beliefs in order to be more like them, or just out of general curiosity. Actors deaths were also seen as American tragedies. James Dean died in 1956 and Americans took it very personally, calling him a personification of alienated American youth. For this experiment, the time it takes for the color of iodine to disappear is measured as the initial rate of reaction. HCl was used as the acid catalyst. An acid catalyst makes a reaction happen faster, but does not get consumed in the process. The purpose of this experiment is to find the rate law for the reaction of iodine with acetone by using the method rates. Experimental First, the following materials were gathered: Four fifty milliliter beakers, four pipets, four graduated cylinders, about 30 mL of 4.0 M Acetone, 1.0 M HCl, and 0.005 M Iodine, a squeeze bottle filled with distilled water, a spectrometer, and a tablet that displays the data from the spectrometer. The acetone, hydrochloric acid, and iodine were put into three of the fifty milliliter beakers. The tablet was connected to the spectrometer via Bluetooth. The spectrometer was calibrated for a wavelength of 410 nm. It was calibrated by filling a cuvette with water and placing it inside the spectrometer. The room temperature was recorded. Reaction number one started off the experiment. For reaction one, as recorded in Table 1, 3 mL of Acetone, 3 mL of HCl, 8 mL of water, and 4 mL of Iodine were measured out into the four graduated cylinders. Harold En Italie Analysis The second symphony by French composer Berlioz (1803 1869): Harold en Italie, Symphonie en quatre parties avc un Alto principal, Op. 16 was commissioned but never performed by the Italian violin virtuoso Paganini who had an intention to showcase his new Stradivari viola. Even though Paganini trusted Berlioz to write suitable music for his new instrument, his disappointment about a sketch in one of the movements led to ill fated conclusion. Unluckily, due to incompetent conductor, plentiful wrong notes and missed entries by the orchestra, the premiere was unsatisfactory for Berlioz who later commented it was the sheer murder . According to https://www.britannica.com/topic/Harold in Italy Op 16, Barlioz stated, My idea was to write a series of scenes for the orchestra in which the solo viola would be involved as a more or less active character, always retaining its own individuality. By placing the viola in the midst of poetic recollections of my wanderings in the [Italian] Abruzzi, I wished to make of it a sort of melancholy dreamer after the manner of Byron s Childe Harold. Thus the title: Harold in Italy. This piece was inspired by the English poet Lord Byron (1788 1824) and his epic narrative poem: Childe Harold s Pilgrimage, which was dedicated to his lady Charlotte Harley. This storyline was gained after travelling through Portugal, the Mediterranean and Aegean Sea that is why this poem was thought to be his own autobiography which revealed a lot of himself. Harold ... Although from different backgrounds, the two central characters are both, in their own way, immobile. Driss, played by Omar Sy, suffers social immobility. Living in the banlieues of Paris (an impoverished and often ignored area, the name for which has become pejorative, meaning slums dominated by immigrants ), he has many social barriers which he must transcend. The immobility of the aristocratic, quadriplegic and millionaire Phillipe, who lives in a large expensive house in a wealthy part of Paris, is not social but physical. Phillipe, portrayed by François Cluzet, has to live his life in a wheelchair due to a paragliding accident which left him paralysed many years ago. The tale of an unlikely friendship between two men from opposite milieu which follows creates an interesting film in which numerous boundaries, both social and physical, are seen to be transcended. This essay will discuss how the theme of mobility is represented by directors Nakache and Toledano in Les Intouchables , including a particular focus on the techniques used to highlight this theme throughout. This can be seen, firstly, in the deliberate selection of the actors used to portray Driss and Phillipe in order to highlight the theme of mobility in the film. Resorts such as Southend, Brighton and Blackpool began to increase in popularity. Accommodation, catering and entertainment facilities were developed in the resorts, some of which benefited from the introduction of steamboat services in the early nineteenth century, a factor that led to the contribution of many of the piers still seen at seaside resorts today. The introduction of holiday camps The first purpose built holiday camp was opened by Billy Butlin in 1936 at Skegness. Holiday camps worked on the simple principle that if the children were happy on holiday then the parents would be happy as well. Holiday camps provided entertainment and activities for both parents and children at a low, all inclusive rate with the added bonus of a child minding service to allow the parents to enjoy themselves. Likewise, the only Mesopotamian structure that can compare to the size of the pyramids is the ziggurat. Significance wise, both were built for religious purposes, as the ziggurat is a place of worship and pyramids were built to immortalize the kings. Both the Egyptians and Mesopotamians developed their own forms of writing, Hieroglyphics and Cuneiform, respectively. • 25. Beetroot Cell Membrane Permeability Experiment Practical Assessment Planning AIM Beetroot cells contain a red pigment, which is stored in the cell vacuole and a vacuole membrane to prevent this leaking out of the cell surrounds it. The outer of the cell is also surrounded by a membrane, which again helps contain the pigment inside the cell. In this experiment I aim to find out the relationship between the leakage of red pigment from a beetroot cell and the surface area. To do this successfully I will need to alter the surface area of the beetroot cells accurately and then measure if any and how much dye is let out. I can hopefully then look at my results and then find a relationship between the two factors and be able to explain exactly why any changes took place. PREDICTION For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For this reason the water used will be at room temperature (23° approx) and will be performed on the same day to allow no margin for any discrepancies. Time Time is an important factor. When leaving the beetroot in the test tubes it must be ensured that they are in the water for exactly 20 minutes each. This will make sure that the same period of time is given for dye leakage to occur. To control this, putting the beetroot into each test tube two minutes apart will give enough time for them to be removed before the next test tube is ready to have its contents removed. pH pH can affect the structure of a membrane and therefore cause it to be unable to function efficiently. The pH s, which cause this affect, would be those that are acid or alkaline. Therefore we must use water as our substance as it has a pH 7 and this is neutral and will have no affect on the leakage of pigment. APPARARATUS ·Safety goggles ·Cutting mat ·Test tube holder

The Roman Villa has long been epitomized as an elegant and luxurious refuge, and a haven removed from the commotion of everyday life. Even in antiquity the time spent at villas were synonymous with pleasure, wealth, and leisure. As the letters of Cicero and Pliny expressively demonstrate, the aim of every wealthy noble was to have several villas, or country residences, preferably with immaculate views. This acceptance of more opulent style of life has been regarded as an acculturation effect resulting from Rome s expanded rule into the western and eastern Mediterranean, and their direct contact with the Hellenistic world. Roman aristocrats began to desire lavish surroundings to match their sense of power and dominance. This new way of life called for opening the house to the landscape and including gardens within the inhabited space. One of the reasons is that farming has been taken over by mega corporations whose harvest is not intended to feed the local population, but instead to feed other parts of the world. The environment pays a big price for this, as these corporations do not find it important to put aside some funds to take care of it. This has caused people like Mr. Wendell Berry to speak out. An imbalance of hormones can also be connected to depression, therefore, when having too high of count of a hormone related to stress in particular (cortisol), depression may occur. Unfortunately, depression affects twenty percent of all Americans. Women are more likely to become depressed than men. Genes also have a lot to do with Depression. While studying twins, scientists have found that there is a powerful genetic influence in depression. Identical twins are three times more possible to have depression than fraternal twins raised in the same environment. In lecture we discussed that rates of MDD are two times greater in those with firs degree relatives. Symptoms caused by major depression can vary from person to person. Although depression may occur only one time during a person s life, some people have multiple episodes of depression. • 45. The Seven Dispensations In The Bible The seven dispensations are not explicitly stated in the Bible. Instead they are a Biblical interpretation that divides the history of mankind into seven different categories. There are different versions or interpretations of the seven dispensations, but I will explain the general understanding that is commonly accepted. The seven dispensations are: the dispensation of innocence, the dispensation of conscience, the dispensation of human government, the dispensation of promise, the dispensation of law, the dispensation of grace, and the millennial kingdom of Christ. The first dispensation, innocence, begins with the creation of man (Genesis 1:27) and ends with the fall of man (Genesis 3). This dispensation is called innocence because Adam, the first man, was created innocent and without knowledge of good and evil. Adam was given the authority to rule over everything of the earth, under one condition: Adam and Eve must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. ... Ritalin Abuse The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) first licensed methylphenidate hydrochloride in 1955 for treating what was formerly known as hyperactivity, attention deficit disorder or ADD. The drug was commonly prescribed in the 1990s when the diagnosis of ADHD became better known and accepted. In 2000, Janssen Pharmaceuticals received approval from the FDA to market Concerta, an extended release form of Ritalin. In 1957, Ciba Pharmaceutical Company began marketing MPH as Ritalin to treat chronic fatigue, depression, psychosis associated with depression, narcolepsy, and to offset the sedating effects of other medications. It was used into the 1960s to try to counteract the symptoms of barbiturate overdose. Ritalin has a high potential for abuse when injected it may produce feelings of euphoria.
