Essay about Hidden Curriculum of Hegemony and Capitalism
Hidden Curriculum of Hegemony and Capitalism
The Oxford Dictionary and Thesaurus, defines education as, the field of study that deals with
methods of teaching and learning in schools, (Elliott, 1997:237). In contrast, the Oxford Dictionary
of Sociology, defines education as, a philosophical as well as a sociological concept, denoting
ideologies, curricula, and pedagogical techniques of the inculcation [instilling/persistent teaching]
and management of knowledge and the social reproduction of personalities and cultures, (Marshall,
1998: 183). Finally, one last definition defines education as, the social institution guiding a society s

It is obvious that schools operations are largely based on political and economic reforms. Students
are encouraged to attend school in order to gain an education and as a result, to qualify in some
form to enter the workforce. Students from a very young age are exposed to hidden messages that
suggest life is equated with achieving well at school. Students are also exposed to a set curriculum
content, which often appears to be related to political movements at any given time. This formal
curriculum allows students to gain knowledge of how and why things are the way they are. The
formal education that students receive at school revolves around the content of the curriculum;
however, there remains a whole hidden curriculum of values and social orientations that students
are constantly subject to alongside this formal learning.
The Hidden Curriculum as it is known, operates more or less on the level of a mini society,
making students accustomed to the regulations, social values and norms of the broader society. As
it is stated by the Oxford Dictionary of Sociology, the hidden curriculum, refers to the way in which

The Color Of Water By James Mcbride
The Color of Water, James McBride s autobiography and tribute to his mother, gives the reader a
look into his childhood and growing up biracial. James McBride was born to an African
American father and a Polish Jewish immigrant mother in 1957. While James was too young to
fully grasp the civil rights and black power events that took place in the 1960s, he recounts
experiencing these events vicariously through his older siblings. James McBride does a marvelous
job at painting a vivid picture for his readers in The Colorof Water. Although McBride utilizes
language and rhetorical devices to alter meaning there are passages that require critical
examination of language. A critical examination of language contributes to our understanding of a
literary text by deepening and expanding our understanding of a work of literature. A critical
analysis of The Color of Water will allow us to break this piece of literature into parts and examine
its components. In doing so, the reader can offer alternative meanings about each part.
The first sentence of The Color of Water prepares the reader for what is to come. I m dead. You
want to talk about my family and here I been dead to them for fifty years. Leave me alone. Don t
bother me. From this sentence we can infer McBride s mother will be a vital part of this literature,
however, the reader will learn about the writer s mother as McBride attempts to figure his mother s
life story together. James truly wants to know about his mother s

John Smith In Pocahontas
John Smith a widely known, beloved, Disney character in the movie Pocahontas. However, he is
also an important and influential person in history. Both of these characters differ greatly from
real life, to a movie character. In the Disney movie, John Smith is shown as Caucasian, slender,
with blond hair and blue eyes. ( John Smith ). He is also shown in an age range from about 20 25.
Socially, John Smith is shown to have many friends in the movie as well as being brave, and
fighting for the rights of the Indians. Throughout the movie John Smith is shown to have only one
motivation: to fight for good by protecting the Native Americans. From all of this information, and
the events in the movie, I felt that sympathized with him. He was the clear protagonist in the movie
and fought for good. Even though John Smith is painted as a good person in Pocahontashe was
actually a very different person in real life.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Little is known about John Smith s real appearance but that he was about 30 years old, and is
depicted as being short with a full beard. In real life John Smith was known for his abrasive
attitude, and was even almost killed multiple times. John Smith had a trade agreement with the
Native Americans for some time, and was mostly friendly, but later in his life turned on them
and put many into slavery or killed them. Not only did John Smith not have many close allies, he
also was described as an [Ambitious] unworthy and [vainglorious] [fellow] ( Captain Smith ).
John Smith was also widely known as someone who stretched the truth quite a bit in his stories. In
fact most of his documentations were proved to be false. After finding out what John Smith was

Honors Class Reflection
Upon looking back at my honors experience at Elgin Community College, I vividly remember the
first honors class that I attended, American Government, or POS 150. I remember being
extremely nervous to attend this class. At this point in my ECC career, I still doubted myself
when it came to my academics and what I was capable of. I kept thinking that I was going to fail
my honors class and ruin my honors experience. What I soon came to realize was that this class
was going to be something completely different than the traditional classes that I had taken before.
The setting of this class was mostly discussion, lecture, and reflection. We had our textbook,
Democracy for the Few, and each week we were instructed to read a chapter and then come to class
ready to discuss and share our ideas.
I loved this attribute of the class because we could always input different ideas and connect with
other students in the class since there were ten of us in the classroom. Not only did I love how the
class was structured and run, but also the information and material that I learned along the way.
Since this class was American Government, I went into it thinking that I would know some of the
basics that we learn throughout high school, but I was mistaken. Everything that I learned was
completely new to me. Sadly, what I was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

different policies. I felt like I was not given the full truth all throughout elementary, middle, and high
school, but rather just the simplified version. In a way, I wish that I was taught things differently
in high school, so that I would be more prepared for my American government class and not be so
perplexed by every new topic. In high school they should have made us analyze and think more
deeply into all of the different policies in the United

How The Battle Of Antietam Changed America
Cannonballs flew left and right and bullets soared through the air in the deadliest and most
important battle of the Civil War, the Battle of Antietam. The Battle of Antietam was the single
bloodiest day in the Civil War, but it was a very important turning point in the Civil War. The Civil
War changed America., and America would have been a completely different place if it weren t for
the one most important battle in the Civil War, The Battle of Antietam. The Battle of Antietam gave
the Union a moral victory which resulted in Abraham Lincolnissuing the Emancipation
Proclamation, allowing slaves to be freed and the union to win the war. The Battle of Antietam was
the only battle in the Civil War fought in the North, and was the single bloodiest... Show more

One of these reasons is that Britain and France would have allied with the South if it weren t for
the Battle of Antietam. Britain and France were suffering shortages of the cotton from the South,
and they were close to joining the South to help them split. The South had had many victories
recently, and it looked like they could have won, but after the Battle of Antietam, the European
nations stayed neutral. Another reason that this battle changed the war is that it helped Lincoln
win the midterm election. Before the Battle of Antietam, Democrats had been campaigning on
the failing war effort, and it was looking like they would control the Senate. If the Democrats had
taken control of the Senate, they would likely have voted to end the war and let the South split
from the north. However, after the Battle of Antietam, the Republicans gained more support and
gained even more seats in the Senate. The Battle of Antietam also helped Lincoln to see the
weakness in his general and replace McClellan. Lincoln had ordered McClellan to destroy the
Army of North Virginia if possible, but McClellan, with twice the manpower and the enemy
pinned against the Potomac, had many opportunities to do so but held back (Klein). McClellan
didn t destroy the Army of North Virginia despite having the perfect opportunity to do so, and
doing this could have ended the war much earlier. Despite having the Confederate battle plans and
twice the manpower, McClellan was still unable to win the battle, and it ended in a draw. This
showed Lincoln that McClellan was incapable of leading the army, and he replaced McClellan with

A Report On Cystic Fibrosis
Cystic Fibrosis
Cystic fibrosis is described as a congenital disorder affecting exocrine gland function, with
respiratory effects, including excessive secretions, obstruction of the bronchial system, infection,
and tissue damage (Kowalczyk, 2014). Cystic fibrosis is also known as CF, and is the most
common lethal disease in white children (Kowalczyk, 2014).
People whom have CF have histologically normal lungs at birth. Lung damage occurs when
secretions from the enlarged bronchial glands gradually increase; this leads to the obstruction of
the bronchial system (Kowalczyk, 2014). Mucus clogs the airways and this plugging promotes
infection such as staph which causes more tissue damage; it also causes atelectasis and emphysema.
Once this destructive cycle starts, it is very difficult to stop and ultimately results in respiratory
failure (Cystic Fibrosis Foundation). Doctors will follow the diseases progression by chest x ray;
it will show the gradual worsening of structural abnormalities (Kowalczyk, 2014). CF does not just
affect the respiratory system, but also affects the exocrine system. Parts of the exocrine system
affected are salivary glands, the small bowel, pancreas, biliary tract, a female s cervix, and the
male genital system (Kowalczyk, 2014). The mucus in the pancreas stops the release of digestive
enzymes; these digestive enzymes are imperative for the body to break down food and absorb
nutrients (Cystic Fibrosis Foundation). Mucus can also cause liver

Naturalism in Miss Julie Essay
Naturalism in Miss Julie
Writers involved in the naturalist movement believed that actors lines should be spoken naturally,
and that mechanical movements, vocal effects, and irrational gestures should be banished. A
return to reality was proposed, with the old theatrical attitudes replaced with effects produced
solely by the voice. There was a call to individualise characters, instead of generalising them, to
produce characters whose minds and bodies would function as they would in real life. Strindberg s
Miss Julie has been said to be an excellent example of this movement, as it involves stress on
multiple motivation of action; a departure from the stereotypical depictions of character; and
random, illogical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is also the bluntly overt exchange of lines such as, Beast! Menial! Lackey! Menial s
whore, lackey s harlot! It has been proposed that this retreat to the characteristics of old
theatricality is perhaps only redeemed in the last minutes, when the stage action becomes
solemnly symbolic. The end of the relationship is represented by the decapitation of Julie s
songbird; the sudden ring of the Count s bell introduces a character that has been silent
throughout, present only in spirit. Jean places a razor in Julie s hand, and she walks out to her
death in silence, as if in a hypnotic trance. Her death is not as melodramatic or theatrical as her
previous behaviour, so this goes some way to compensate for earlier lapses.
Strindberg expressed an aversion to dividing his play into acts, as he believed that, the declining
capacity for illusion is possibly affected by intervals, which give spectators the time to reflect and
thereby withdraw from the suggestive influence of the author hypnotist. His theory centres on the
assumption that by eliminating intervals, which act as breaks from the action, continuity would
improve, thereby increasing the intense nature of the plays action and creating a claustrophobic
environment. In order not to break the illusion, he also wanted to be rid of any musicians that the
audience could see, and would not

The Effects Of Immune System On The Body
Immunity
MersihaFrlj
Herzing University, Minneapolis MN
The purpose of the immune system is to prevent and minimize infections; this is how the body
protects us from microbes that would otherwise make us ill or kill us (Dugdale, 2013). The immune
system works by differentiating between our own cells (self antigens), foreign cells (antigens), and
pathogenic microbes (Dugdale, 2013). When our cells discover anything unfamiliar, our immune
system works to destroy it(Dug dale, 2013). If the immune system cannot activate to kill foreign
cells, we can get infections (Dugdale, 2013). Conversely, if it is activated without any foreign cells
present it can cause pathopysiological problems (Dugdale,2013). This paper will focus on the ...

A serum is an injection of proteins from a non human source (Hunt, 2014).The immune system can
attack the skin, kidneys, lungs, blood vessels, joints, and other organs (Hunt, 2014). Lastly, Cell
mediated (Type IV) ,or Delayed, Hypersensitivity happens over 48 72 hours and sometimes 21 28

the lesion can become inflamed and erythematic (Hunt, 2014).
Immunodeficiency and Affect on the Body WHO recognizes more than 220 immunodeficiency
diseases (Specific Disease Type, 2015). These diseases are also chronic and happen when part of
the immune system is defective, missing, or not functioning the way it should ( Specific Disease
Type, 2015). These type of disease can be an antibody deficiency, a cellular immunodeficiency, or
an innate immune disorder (Specific Disease Type, 2013). One innate immune disorder is HIV
(Pagana, 2015). This is a type of retrovirus that contains a protein and depresses the immune system
(Pagana, 2015). Antibody deficiencies affect the upper respiratory, sinuses, or lungs (Specific
Disease Type, 2013).Finally, cellular immunodeficiency can cause viral, fungal, and bacterial
infections in humans (Specific Disease Type, 2013).

Theme Of Jealousy In Medusa And The Laboratory
Carol Ann Duffy and Robert Browning presents jealousy at the core of their poems, Medusa and
The Laboratory . Duffy explores the jealousy felt by Medusa as she uses it to foster her growing
power while Browning develops the notion of jealousy as one that is used to exact revenge over
those who who have wronged the speaker. Both poems are presented in the form of dramatic
monologues that describe how the women use their jealousy to ensure that their partners stay with

The Third And Final Constant Factor Essay
The third and final constant factor originates directly as a result of the anarchic international
environment. As stated, a state acts largely in its own best interest. However, given more than one
state exists, multiple interests oftentimes intersect. Competition, the final constant, results from this
intersection. Rarely, this competition spins out of control into armed conflict. Prior to engaging in
war, a state must carefully weigh any potential benefits against likely costs. Mearsheimer defines
this as calculated aggression. Most likely, state level competition remains at a level lower than war.
Over time, state power balances develop and eventually solidify. Most importantly, state
competition, a state s prevailing interest to secure an improved chance for its continued survival,
remains firmly in place. Seen in this light, both Waltz and Gilpin s arguments for modifying or
upending this balance make better sense. Waltz argues that the international structure limits state
behavior. A state can pursue its interest only so far as to not upset the international balance. Gilpin
steps past Waltz concluding a state can choose to remake the balance if it decides its benefits
outweigh expected costs. One could view Gilpin as a balanced (no pun intended) medium between
Mearsheimer s aggression and Waltz s caution. Despite their respective differences, in prescribing to
a realist philosophy, Mearsheimer, Walz, and Gilpin would each conclude persistent state

Literary Analysis Of Paradise Lost
Renaissance Literature John milton foundation Milton is best known for Paradise Lost, broadly
viewed as the best epic sonnet in English. Works, for example, Paradise Regained and Samson
Agonistes, he preoved his claim to being a standout amongst other English artists . In his works
Milton pushed the abrogation of the Church of England and the execution of Charles I. From the
earliest starting point of the English Civil Wars in 1642 to long after the delegated of Charles
the II, He appeared in every one of his works a political reasoning that contradicted oppression
and a state upheld religion. His impact broadened through the english common wars as well as
to the American and French upsets. In his chips away at philosophy, he esteemed freedom of
inner voice, the significance of Scripture as a guide in confidence, and religious toleration
toward dissidents. Milton turned into the voice of the English Commonwealth after 1649
through his treatment of its universal parallels and his safeguard of the legislature against
unfriendly assaults from abroad. Heaven Lost synopsis Heaven Lost is about the formation of
the principal man and lady, Adam and eve, and their trials that prompted them being constrained

Chance in Philosophy Essay
Chance in Philosophy
Boethius The Consolation of Philosophy demonstrates many thoughts and ideas that Boethius had
while he was imprisoned at Ravenna. Boethius wrote of his conversations with lady Philosophy,
who came to help cure him during his sentence. Throughout the book, she explained (or reminded)
Boethius of many things such as the nature of power and the nature of fame. Many things that she
explains in the beginning of the book can be summed together with the thought that God governs
everything. God, though not the afterlife, is a very important theme in The Consolation of
Philosophy . One part of this theme that I have looked at is whether God orders the world totally, or
there is chance in our lives. Boethius explained, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, because someone at some time buried the treasure, does that mean one was meant to find it?
Yes, I believe that someone was meant to find it, and it is that person s chance that led him or
her to do so. However, in quot; The Consolation of Philosophy quot;, the idea is that there is no
chance in Gods point of view; that God has a supreme knowledge of everything, and things do
not seem to be chance to him because he may foresee their occurrence. It is implied that God
created the world and the order that it stands in, and that he knows everything that will ever
happen to us. So, how is it, then, that we have free will if God already knows what will happen to
us? Does he choose our destiny, or do we shape it ourselves?
I believe that while God may know our destinies, we do shape them ourselves. It is possible for
God to know our destinies because he knows the future. However, the future in God s perspective
is not really the future per se, it is just a depiction of sequence of things rather than a moment of
occurrence. In the book, Philosophy explains that quot;It is not necessary, they say, that what is
foreseen must happen, but it is necessary that what is destined to happen must be foreseen. quot;
(p. __) This may help explain the idea that even though God knows something, it does not mean
that he chose it. I believe that we do have free will in our lives. We can

passive protection method. There are three types of passive devices: limiting the rate of fire growth,
fire containment and then emergency egress. Fire containment is accomplished by limiting a fully
involved fire to the room or area that it is located. This is done through continuous researching and
testing. Fire containment is most successful when complete testing has been done on the many
components of the buildings construction and materials.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tests can be conducted under non load bearing, load bearing, unrestrained, and restrained
conditions. Non load bearing tests are conducted to determine when the fire will spread to the
neighboring compartment. This happens when the heat transfer is high enough to ignite items in
the non fire room. This test can also result in the wall becoming too hot and cracking, creating a
path for the fire to travel. The test is measured by the time it takes for cotton waste on the
unexposed side to ignite. Unlike the non load bearing test, the load bearing test is conducted to
see how long the structure will withstand before is collapses. A collapse not only creates a path
for the fire to travel, but it also affects the safety of anyone that would be inside. The test is
conducted while the assembly being tested is under a weighted load, and the test is concluded
when the assembly begins to collapse. This test is mainly used for wood. Steel and concrete are
tested without weight because they will arch when they near breaking point. When testing steel
framed floors, ceilings, and roof assemblies, they are tested under both restrained and unrestrained
conditions. The steel frame is made to resist the forces of thermal expansion on the industrial steel.
It is important to test under restrained conditions, and this test is required for building parts that
make up a structure capable of resisting thermal expansion through the wide range of

Muscle Torque Essay
Muscle torque is beneficial when multi joint movement (throwing) taken place with accordance to
Central Nervous System, Interaction torque, and the muscles involving when torque occurred.
Torque in multijoint limb movements doesn t only occur from muscles acting at a specific joint,
but from interactions due to the rotations of other joints (Hollerbach and FLash, 1982). In this case,
it supports Bernstein s idea that muscletorque at the two joints was not necessary related to each
other to produce coordinated joint movement (Turvey 1990). The muscle torque (MT) is a
measurement of action muscle torque to rotate the joint (Marconi 2008). Moreover, the interaction

Shoulder deceleration before ball release is not produced by active shoulder antagonist MT, but it
is influenced by IT from elbow extension (Hore, 2010). As a result, MT is predominantly driven by

In a similar study, the Central Nervous System (CNS) is required to generate motor commands by
taking net torque, muscle torque, interaction torque, gravitational torque into consideration to
execute multi joint movement (Hirashima 2003). Throwers were examined by instructing them to
throw balls of different weights and diameter and it was predicted that back forces would adjust the
finger grip force in accordance to the amplitude and finger extension (Harashima, 2003). As a
result, the CNS of the skilled ball throwers could predict for back forces caused by the hand
acceleration (Hirashima, 2003).
In contrary, CNS is only examined through quick movement because of the belief that IT is
acquired on speed (Yamasaki, 2008). Another research opposing the study mentioned that CNS is
unknown in dealing with the IT when adjusting the movement speed in ball throwing movements
(Hirashima, 2003). In conclusion, the central nervous system generates agonist and antagonist
resulting in multi joint movements (Marconi

Gonzaga s Annual Relay For Life
Essay Questions
1.Describe the events, experiences, and influential people that led to your choice of a science,
engineering, or mathematics major.
I have always been interested in science. As a child, I would perform little experiments by
freezing my dinosaurs in a water bottle filled with water. My family was always very supportive
of me and my scientific pursuits. Because of this, my grandmother gave me a children s science
experiment book. I enjoyed making sugar crystals and a substance called oobleck that was similar
to a solid and a liquid. When I was a little older, my parents even bought me a science experiment
kit, and I was ecstatic. But, my enthusiasm did not end there. I was so enthusiastic about science

Last semester, I was a general chemistry tutor, and this semester I tutor organic chemistry. As part of

Political Majority and Federal Spending Essay
Abstract
This paper addresses the following question: what determines government spending in the United
States. In short, I believe real government spending to be a function of partisan political control.
Specifically, I hypothesizes that a majority congressional representation by either the Democrats or
the Republicans does not affect the level real federal government spending. In other words,
government spending does not increase due to a Democrat majority or decline due to a Republican
majority.
Introduction
Every two years on the first Tuesday in November, Americans across the country vote on who will
represent them in the Federal government. Thusly, they indirectly shape the future of the United
States. Since the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If partisan control of congress is a determinant of real spending, a plethora of new questions shall
arise. In addition, if a Democrat majority results in a decline of spending, then academics and
draw inferences about the budget, and therefore the deficit, the day after elections. Ceteris
paribus, academics would be more likely to predict overall government spending. In other words,
Keynesian economists would predict a less drastic economic downturn if Democrats have majority
control during stagnate growth. Specifically, I wish to determine the following. First, is
congressional control a determinant of federal spending? Next, does the same hold true for federal
defense and non defense spending? Finally, does a specific party majority foreshadow a specific
effect on spending? Alternatively, does a Democrat majority predict an increase in spending?
In the next section, I will review and discuss the implications of prior research. Then, I will detail
my methodology and results. Finally, I will discuss my finding and draw conclusions. The end of
the paper cites references and includes any appendices vital to the understanding of the paper.
Literature Review
Based upon my research, there are two primary motives for legislators to spend: (1) to stimulate
the economy and (2) to benefit their represented district, thereby increasing the likelihood of
reelection. In this section, I will briefly discuss the former. I will cover the latter in

Allen Ginsberg s Poetry
Allen Ginsberg s work carries strong the themes of the Beat Generation, a rebellious and
melodramatic extravaganza. He grew up protesting World War II, then continued to fill his life with
drugs and rebellion. He wrote much of his work during the Vietnam War, a highly opposed war that
caused much distress especially in the young male demographic because of the draft. While often
containing anti war and anti government rhetoric, his poems usually focus on amorous connections
and the troubles of his time. Ravaged by drugs, depression, and debt, the Beat Generationsees many
of its core themes in the work of Allen Ginsberg.
Ginsberg s anti war sentiments show clearly throughout many of his poems, most notably Wichita
Vortex Sutra and, in places,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One particular line in the first section of Howl is my favorite because of its stark transparency:
with dreams, with drugs, with waking nightmares, alcohol and cock and endless balls
(Ginsberg). The first half of this line are beautiful and tragically melodramatic. Finishing with
carnality forces the reader to lower their shock and remember that sexuality really is a part of the
big beautiful picture. Lines like these sparked the actual sexual revolution, the change in
thinking during the 1960 s, ten years after Ginsberg wrote Howl . Hand in hand with Ginsberg s
free sexuality comes his open bisexuality. He has a complete disregard of the social norm,
writing in his poem Message : man / or woman I don t care what anymore, I / want [the] love I
was born for (Ginsberg). The ideas in this line reflect the ideas of the Homophile Movement;
acceptance of gay people and focusing on love instead of sex. Ginsberg surely was one of the
forerunning poets on this movement. Ginsberg s work on the folly of the United States
government, the horror of war, and basic sexuality reflects the ideas of the Beats Generation and the
movements that went along with it; the sexual revolution and the Homophile

Social Work And Social Work
The Common and Separate Ground On the first page of Keith Lucas s, So You Want to be a
Social Worker he makes note of how Christianity and social work share a lot of the same values,
because of this the practice of social work can be viewed as a form of ministry. For example,
most social workers, no matter their religion believe that all people have worth, and see a great
importance in the showing of understanding and kindness towards them. Through my studies in
APS 101, at Redeemer University College, I have learned that social workwas brought up by the
Church; I never knew of this relationship. This new knowledge makes me eager to learn more
about the field, and the ways in which I can use it to serve not only my neighbors, but God himself,
through its missionary characteristics. This text has shown me that my beliefs impact the way I see
the world, the people in it, and that my thoughts and actions are inevitably affected by them. As I
move deeper into my studies, I am learning the importance of this, and of bringing my whole self
into whatever situations I face. Societal values are constantly changing, but Christian values remain
firm, as they are planted with biblical roots (Keith Lucas, 1987, p.3).
Social Work and Christian Beliefs I now understand that the conflicting beliefs, under the blanket of
Christianity can be divided into three categories. The first are the primary beliefs, these are
foundational and include events, such as God creating the world and

Licenses in The Networked Information Economy Essay examples
Free and open source software has become an integral part of the modern internet age. As a result
of the threat posed by copyright laws sponsored by proprietary software companies, the free
software community has developed many software licenses to combat copyright and protect the
developer. Many open source licenses have ben used by developers to release their programs to the
community. Some of the most popular licenses are the Apache License, the GNU General Public
License(GPL), and the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL). Each of these licenses gives
different rights for the licensor and the user of the license. Each license also has implications on the
availability of the code to the future developer community. The GPL more... Show more content on

The LGPL is a less restrictive copyleft license based, for the most part, on the GPL. One main
difference between the two licenses is the fact that the LGPL allows the use of its licensed libraries
to be used in proprietary software as well as free software (Free Software Foundation, n.d.).
Programs that are licensed under the GPL include the Qt application development system, the
RhythmBox music player, and the Blender 3d modeling program. Programs licensed under the
GPL have a wide developer base and a wide variety of improvements because anyone can access
the source code and release changes to the community.
The Apache Software License was developed by the Apache Software Foundation as an
alternative to the restrictions of the GPL. The Apache License is a much less restrictive license
than the GPL or the LGPL. The main difference between the two licenses is that code under the
Apache License can be used in a proprietary program (Wilson, 2005a). Another difference in the
Apace License is the fact that users of programs licensed under the Apache License do not have to
contribute their changes back to the community, as with the GPL (Metz, 2012). Aside from the
Apache web server, Google s Android Operating System and Hadoop a networked data processing
program are licensed under the Apache License (Metz, 2012). Some proprietary software

Essay On Human Life
The Definition of a Human Life In 1998 scientists shocked the world with the discovery of human
embryonic stem cells. This sparked curiosity and enlightenment in the eyes of medical
professionals everywhere. Nineteen years later the world is riddles with a plethora of controversy,
fabrication, and fallacies in regards to the use of embryonic stem cells. Contrary to this, these super
cells have the growing potential to put an end to many medical disputes. Firstly, to understand the
stigma and information behind embryonic stem cell research, there must be a common
understanding of what a stem cell is. Stem cells are a class of undifferentiated cells that are able to
differentiate into specialized cell types (The MNT Editorial Team).... Show more content on

Secondly, you must know the advantages and disadvantages of embryonic stem cell usage.
Since most embryos that are used in ESC research are obtained from IVF treatments, this
reduces the rate of embryos that are being destroyed after treatment is over since there can only
be one embryo used at a time and cannot be saved. Scientists also now have improved their
knowledge in birth defects because ESCs can be turned into models for these birth defects. The
wide array of possibilities these cells can achieve are impeccable, from curing cancer to being
able to replace damaged tissue all over the body. However, the disadvantages of these cells are
where the social stigma occurs. Starting with the possibility of rejection when placed in the body
is something many are wary about. This would cause the patient to be put on anti rejection
medication for the rest of his/her life. Another disadvantage being most spiritual people believe in
life at the point of conception. Even though the blastula show no physical attributes of a human
being and have no chance of developing into a baby unless embedded into the uterine wall, devout
Christians still see this as murder . Scientists have also not achieved full understanding of the
capability of ESC and do not yet know how to control their constant need to divide and form new
cells which could result in tumors and large masses of unwanted tissue (Occupytheory). This brings

Essay about The Odyssey as a Hero Journey
All of us have similar experiences. We share in the life journey of growth, development, and
transformation. We live the same stories…the trappings might be different, the twists and
turns that create suspense might be different from culture to culture, the particular characters may
take different forms, but underneath it all, it s the same story, drawn from the same experiences
(Linda Seger, Creating
Myth, 1).
All people face trials and tribulations throughout their life. Thus, what defines one from one s
fellow human beings is not the trials themselves, but how one overcomes the challenges along the
journey, as well as the psychological and physical lessons one learns from the actions engaged.

For one month Odysseus refuses to leave his safe home in peaceful and bountiful Ithaca. The
reader is not told of the rationale behind his final decision to join the war; however, one must
assume that he believes he will be successful, returning home with many spoils of war, or that he
will receive honor for participating. His decision to leave Ithaca cannot be simply based on a
whim: he is a young king with many responsibilities, and while he rules his land with great strength,
he is inexperienced. Thus, the reasons for initiating his journey most probably include the
experience and maturity he will gain fighting the Trojans.
One can ascertain that the actual catalyst that enters into Odysseus life is the Trojan War itself. The
war represents a first step for
Odysseus; after all, while it is his trickery that eventually wins the war for the Achaens (it was his
idea to build the large wooden horse in which the Achaen army hid and from which they
successfully defeated
Troy, we are introduced to Odysseus as the great tactician (Book
VII, 232 301). Cunning is a trait he already possesses: it cannot be the object of his journey; it
merely starts him off. Yet he must initially survive the battle, and his survival proves his capacity to
undertake the journey, moving him to the next stage of the Hero
Journey.
The Second stage of the Hero Journey is the most visible. It consists of the trials that

Importance of Ambitions in Life Essay
Importance of Ambitions in Life Ambition is defined as a strong desire to obtain success,
power, or riches or as something that you want very much to do or to obtain. Having an
ambition represents everything to many people. The only purpose in a man s life is fulfilling his
dream, because am ambition can be associated with a dream. And if this dream doesn t exist you
can t say that you have lived your life to the full. In the moments of solitary meditation when we
are alone with ourselves and we can no longer lie or delude ourselves, we ask the fundamental
question: why do I have to die, why is it that my life must end, why is my existence finite, limited in
time? Ambition is the catalyst that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The creative act is born from an irresistible impulse towards the absolute, that is the wish of the
individual to lift his subjectivity to the maximum perfection allowed by his spiritual resources
and then to transpose this degree of spiritual elevation into a concrete world. On the other hand,
the creative act is born from the hope that people will recognize the value of his work and
therefore remember his name forever. You should consider the first aspiration of the individual.
We can assert that that it is dissolved in a paradox. Of course, the process of creation augments
substantially the spiritual energies of the individual, it even makes him think that he represents
the supreme measure of the generating principle of life, but the work, the product of this
process does not succeed in conveying all the superior exigencies of the creator and,
consequently, it does not completely confirm his exceptional self appreciation during the
creation of his work. But in my opinion when you have an ambition it means that you are living
for fulfilling it, you live your life to the full, you are completely dedicated and focused on what
you want to achieve or fulfil. When you have a certain ambition, even if it is a very strange one
and you hope every day that one day you will fulfil it, you have passion and you give everything
you have to see you dream come true. To take an example I can

Fortunato Short Story Analysis
This story by Edgar Allan Poe is one of premeditated murder. Montresor tells the story of the
night when he took his revenge on Fortunato, his friend. Montresor is upset about a long term
insult between his family and Fortunato s because Montresor says: Thousand injuries that he
has suffered at the hands of Fortunato . He plots to murder his friend during carnival, an event
that is usually represented by joy. Montresor chooses the exact moment when the man is drunk
and not in his correct mind. Montresor tricks Fortunato into the catacombs to try a wine and
eventually seals Fortunato within the catacombs to die. The story s setting describes one
closely related to horror, as Poe causes the readers to predict, to fear, and tremble in the opening.
The atmosphere of horror increases much more as Montresor describes his adventure with
Fortunato into the vaults. There are several examples of verbal irony within Montresor s words.
Montresor says one thing that has more than one meaning. Early on, Montresor gives
demanding orders to his attendants, not to leave the house, knowing that this will ensure that
they would. More than once in the writing we can see Montresor calling Fortunato his friend,
while taking him to death. Fortunato says that his cough will not kill him. A cough won t kill
me , he says, and Montresor replies, True, true . This quote is probably the most memorable line
of the story because he was sure that the cause of his death would not be his cough. Verbal irony
along with dark humor seems to fill the whole story. It kind of baffles the reader to think one can
be so blindsided into falling for some of the things Montresor has set up for Fortunato s fate.
Many times verbal irony has more than one meaning which makes this story as great as it is. In
Montresor s last words there is the last example of irony, it happened when Montresor realized
that his friend had finally passed. He called Fortunato s name repeatedly, with no answer.
Montresor threw his torch into the small hole and it fell into Fortunato s place of death. His last
words to his friend were In pace requiescat, which means rest in peace. The irony can be
interpreted in two ways, one is Montresor wishing his friend to rest in

resolutions that would greatly benefit your dogs and cats.
#1 Update Or Create An ID For Your Pet
If you don t have an ID for your pet, the start of a New Year is a great time time to invest in a
identification tag for you pet that has their name on it as well as your contact information.
If you pet s identification tag is out of date and contains contact information for you that is no
longer valid, get it updated. That way, if anything every happens to your pet, whomever finds them
will be able to get in touch with you.

#4 Groom Your Pet On A Regular Basis
Finally, make sure that you keep up on your pet s grooming this year.
If you have a dog, sit with it and brush its coat at least once a day. This will only take a few
minutes to do every day and will result in multiple positive benefits. If you brush your dog s coat
everyday, more of their lose fur will end up on their brush instead of around your house. Brushing
your dog everyday should reduce the amount of fur around your house. Additionally, it will help
spread the oils on your dog s skin to their fur, which will help keep their fur looking and feeling
healthy. Finally, its a great way to bond with your dog.
You can also brush your cat as well on a daily basis if they will let you. Many cat s prefer to groom
themselves, but if you start young, your cat should allow you to groom it as well.
Remember grooming extends to your pet s teeth as well. At least once a week, you should brush
your dog or cat s teeth with a toothbrush and toothpaste specifically designed for pets. You can also
stay on top of their dental healthy by providing them with treats and chewy toys that are designed to
specifically combat tarter and keep their teeth

Cochlear Implant History
A cochlear implant is an electronic medical device that does the work of the damaged parts of the
cochlea, which is the inner ear, to provide sound signals to the brain. Cochlear implants were a
major breakthrough in history. There was now a way for people, who have had little or no benefit
from hearing aids, to receive sound. The cochlear implant, which was sometimes called a Bionic
Ear could help some people to hear again.
In 1972 the first single channel cochlear implant was introduced. This provided many deaf people
with better lip reading enhancement. In 1984, a multi channel cochlear implant was introduced.
The difference between the single channel and multi channel implant system was that the single
channel system only delivered sound ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speech processor is like a computer, it is usually with the microphone behind the ear. The
speech processor analyzes the sound and sends it to the transmitter.
The transmitter is worn on the head just behind the ear, it sends coded signals to the implanted
receiver just under the skin. The receiver takes the coded electrical signals from the transmitter and
takes them to the electrodes which have been surgically implanted in the cochlea. These electrodes
then stimulate the auditory nerve and the sensation of sound in recognized.
Cochlear implants help provide a sense of sound to an individual who is deaf or hard of hearing.
They can help individuals who have hearing loss in both ears or in only one ear. The benefits from
a cochlear implant vary depending on whether the individual had hearing loss before or after
developing language, the individual s age, or the motivation of the individual.
Cochlear implants do not restore normal hearing, but they can help a deaf individual to have an
3
effective representation of sound and help the individual understand speech. Most of the time,
individuals tend to hear better with time and practice.
Some individuals have benefitted from cochlear implants and some have not. There

Analysis Of August Wilson s Fence

The play Fence by August Wilson s has a connection with real world fence. The yard is a small
dirt yard, partially fenced, except for the last scene, with a wooden sawhorse, a pile of lumber,
and other fence building equipment set off to the side. The Opposite is a tree from which hangs a
ball made of rags. A baseball bat leans against the tree. Two oil drums serve as garbage receptacles
and sit near the house at right to complete the setting (Wilson 2). He mentions that the fence has

Essay On Amelia Earhart
Amelia Earhart spoke the words, I want to do something useful in the world. Not only did she
speak these words, but she lived by them with her lifetime full of astonishing aviation records
and other services. From her tomboyish childhood to her first flight, Amelia Earhart proved that
airplanes and service were her passion. Throughout her entire career, Earhart showed the world
what women could do and truly became a world leading pilot and adventurer. Amelia Mary
Earhart was born on July 24, 1897 to Edwin and Amy Otis Earhart in Atchison, Kansas
(Encyclopedia of World Biography.) Earhart s father was an attorney for the railroad, and
because he was always moving for his job, Earhart spent most of her childhood with her mother s
parents, Judge Alfred and Amelia Otis (Dictionary of American Biography.) It was with them
that she showed early evidence of living life while beating to her own drum. Growing up on her
grandparents farm, she partook in many tomboy activities like exploring river caves and playing
physical sports such as football, basketball, and baseball (Contemporary Heroes and Heroines.)
She also loved school although attending six different high schools because of her family having
to move around (Science and Its Times.) After graduating high school, Earhart became a nurse s
aide in Canada during World War I to help with the wounded soldiers returning home from war.
Afterwards, she enrolled at Columbia University in New York as a pre medical student, but

A Report On Car Sharing Vehicles
with vehicles located in neighborhoods, are rented by the hour,
The current transportation market offers consumers many options for purchasing an automobile,
but fewer practical options for using a vehicle occasionally.
This contributes to several problems:
It results in inefficient use of valuable assets. Many private automobiles are used only a few hours
per week. These low annual mileage vehicles have high costs per vehicle mile.
It increases vehicle use. Because cars are expensive to own but cheap to drive, owners have the
incentive to maximize their use. This increases external costs such as traffic congestion, facility
costs, accidents and environmental impacts.
Some low income households cannot afford to drive at all, or they spend an excessive portion of
their budgets own vehicles they only need occasionally. This is a financial burden and contributes
to problems such as uninsured driving.

Imagery In Devil In The White City
In the nonfiction novel The Devil in the White City, Erik Larson uses Imagery, dark tone, and
oxymorons to portray H. H. Holmes, whose point of view is half of the story, as the Devil
incarnate: evil and subhuman. Larson utilizes imagery to exemplify Holmes character and
actions to the audience. He describes Holmes reaction to a friend s sister s death to give the
reader an idea of the cold inhumanity he possesed. Even though Holmes told Ned how sorry he
was about her passing, yet in his eyes there was only a flat blue calm like that of a lake on a still
August morning (123). Larson presents this imagery to give the reader a clear view of Holmes
point of view on death. When he reacts with such a flat blue calm, the reader can clearly see that
he did not posses even the slightest bit of sincerity. This serves to help the reader see the surface,
and allude to what lies beneath. Larson further proves his inhumanity with the portrayal of
Holmes murder of his pregnant fiancГ©e, Julia. Holmes promised he would marry her, but with
the condition that she had to allow him to execute an abortion. He then held the cloth coated in
chloroform over her nose and mouth and within seconds her eyes fluttered and rolled upwards
followed by the inevitable, reflexive disturbance of muscles, like a dream of running (148). Larson
uses words like flutter and rolled to show the reader that her consciousness fled from her with no
objection from her being noted. This is to

Gloria AnzaldГєa Research Paper
Writing Assignment #1B Gloria AnzaldГєa s theory of borderlands is one with a vast number of
concepts and ideas. Her unique writing style, incorporating poems and metaphors to convey her
message, along with the use of her native language provide the reader to fully grasp the content.
While there are many interpretations of what AnzaldГєa s theory is, for simplicity s sake, it will be
defined as followed: we must reexamine our definition of borders and their formation so that we
can start the decolonization of our rhetoric, lifestyles, and ideologies; all in hopes of either finding
our identity, or giving our identity meaning and empowering the New Mestiza . This paper will
examine this theory through five key concepts: her methodology, borders, la facultad, hybridity, and
cultural conflict. Following the key concepts, I will apply AnzaldГєa s theory to my own lived
experiences. Before looking at key concepts found in particular chapters or sections, AnzaldГєa...

She notes that there is a lot of hurling of accusations from both sides of the river (AnzaldГєa 100).
White and non whites are in a constant racial conflict. AnzaldГєa writings were a reflection of the
society in the 80s, but they paint a similar picture of today s society. Racial tensions are as high as
they have ever been and partisan lines are being drawn in the sand, with opposing sides refusing to
go near the middle. AnzaldГєa laments that while people of colors cry for help are legitimate, but
engaging in hostile communication will not result in any change. She suggest that gringos, or
white people stop arguing about past wrongs and admit they happened and take full responsibility,
and then ask what they need from people of color. For people of color, she suggest that we stop
debating past harms and voice our needs (AnzaldГєa 107). By doing this, AnzaldГєa hopes that will

Employment Laws in Canada
Canada Employment Law The employment affiliation can be complex, with no quick and easy
method to use which will provide an instant answer. When collecting information from the
parties in regards to their work association, the inspector/health and safety officer must keep in
mind that the numerous tests are not tests in and of themselves, but rather circumstances
outlined in jurisprudence. They may be given more or less credence in a particular case to
establish if a worker is simply part of the payer s business or in business on his or her own
account (Determining the Employer/Employee Relationship IPG 069, 2012). The general
principles of contract law rule the structure of the contract of employment. A contract of
employment is a contract by which a person, the worker, takes on for a limited or undefined
period of time to do work for payment according to the instructions and under the direction or
control of another person, the employer. Inside the structure of a contract of employment, a person
carries out the service of work, gets payment and the work is carried out according to the direction
and supervision of the employer. The terms of the contract may be either in writing or given orally,
but both are equally binding and enforceable. When a person is hired to be an employee, the person
enters into a contract of service, which is an employer/employee relationship (Determining the

Essay on A Philosophical Examination of Language
A Philosophical Examination of Language
Philosophy is language idling.
Ludwig Wittgenstein Language and philosophy have an intimate connection to one another;
without a philosophical examination of the meanings and structure of language, we cannot easily
ascertain the objective truth of the statements we make, nor can we usefully discuss abstract
concepts. The philosophy of language seeks to understand the concepts expressed by language and
to find a system by which it can effectively and accurately do so. This is more difficult than it
appears at first; philosophers are looking for a theory of language which avoids the minute errors of
meaning and usage which occur in all discussions of abstract concepts and which tend to ... Show

Ordinary language theory, on the other hand, suggested that these philosophical problems appear
when language is used improperly; the language itself is perfectly acceptable and can be easily
applied to the discussion of abstract and philosophical concepts without undue modifications, as
long as it is used and interpreted properly (Katz 69). Each of the! ! se movements in linguistic
philosophy had its strengths and weaknesses, and its supporters and detractors. LOGICAL
EMPIRICISM
Pure metaphysical speculation which is not based on fact is, to the empiricists, neither relevant nor
useful. The only truth, in this philosophy, is that which is mathematically provable or
experimentally observable (Katz 18 19). This truth can be divided into two categories: analytic
truths are based on inherent meanings and can be observed through the application of reason, if not
experiment; synthetic truths are those facts which are obtained from the experience of reality
(Quine, in Rosenberg Travis, 63). How does this apply to linguistic philosophy? Any system of
communication must, in order to be meaningful, include some way to represent the truth
accurately; any empiricist will tell you that this truth is only valuable and meaningful if it can be
considered absolute and provable. In order to be perfectly accurate in representing the truth,
language must conform to a certain set of specifications designed to prevent it from

Abstract. Supply chains are complex systems with silos of information that are very difficult to
integrate and analyze. The best way to effectively analyze these disparate systems is the use of
Business Intelligence (BI). The ability to make and then to process the right decision at the right
time in collaboration with the right partners is the definition of the successful use of BI. This

However, despite the huge investment in SCM software systems, they did not provide desired
Return On Investment (ROI). The main reason is that these systems mostly provide only
transaction based functionality. They lack the sophisticated analytical capabilities required to
provide an integrated view of the supply chain. This is where Business Intelligence (BI) tools like
data warehousing, ETL (Extraction, Transformation, and Loading), data mining, and OLAP (On
Line Analytical Processing) can help adequately analyze operational effectiveness across the supply
chain. 1.1 Supply Chain Performance Measurement
Supply Chain Performance Measurement (SCPM) is vital for a company to survive in today s
competitive business environment. Performance measurement is one of the key aspects of
management. If a company does not have a clear understanding of how well its supply chains are
performing, it will be very hard to manage them successfully.

Coronary Artery Disease Research Paper
Abstract
The heart is composed of four chambers, the right and left atrium and the right and left ventricles.
This important muscle is used to pump and create pressure to circulate blood throughout our
bodies2. It is important for our heart to properly function because it helps blood deliver important
nutrients and oxygen to the rest of our body. The heart is located in between the lungs (2/3 slightly
tilted to the left), in the central portion of the thorax2. The atria collect the blood versus the
ventricles which pump out the blood to the rest of the body. In order for the heart to properly
function is must also receive enough oxygen and proper electrical stimulus. The coronary arteries
are in charge of distributing adequate amounts of oxygen to the heart2. The heart s nodes help the
heart function with electrical impulses which allow the heart to contract. These are also known as
the pacemakers of the heart. Failure to properly function can result in a heart attack.

Media Literacy and Media Influence
In today s world media literacy has become a very important commodity among our digitally
connected society. With so many users connected to social media mediums such as Facebook,
Twitter, Instagram etc. it is very important that people understand how to properly analyze,
evaluate, and interpret media as well as develop the ability to create media. This, in essence, is
what media literacy is about and with so many different sources of information streaming through
our daily lives all at once, being media literate can not only help us discern actual facts from
fiction, but it helps us better understand some of the complex messages we receive from these
sources. Throughout this essay I will discuss my media literacy by talking about different media
products and how they have impacted and helped shape my life as well as the culture of our
society. The first product in this essay and the first product to ever influence me was the numerous
Spider Man comic books from Marvel publishing. The very first comic books that I encountered
in my life came in a two pack at Walmart and contained the 30th anniversary issue of The
Amazing Spider Man and Spider Man: Maximum Carnage issue 13. Of course, when I first
received these comics, I was only infatuated with the pictures but after reading these comics and
collecting a few more, I became entranced and inspired by the tales

Hero and Leander by Peter Paul Reubens
During this semester s course we have studied various styles of art throughout Europe, and what
has intrigued me the most is Baroque art. Baroque, as we have studied it, is a period of artistic
style that used exaggerated motion and clear, easily interpreted detail to produce drama, in
sculpture, and painting. Baroquestyle began in Rome, Italy in the 1600s and quickly spread
throughout Europe. The Baroque style was endorsed by the Roman Catholic Church, in their
response to the Protestant Reformation. The Church encouraged artists to create works of art that
would connect their audience intellectually and emotionally with religious themes. For my final
visual analysis I have chosen Hero and Leander, by Peter Paul Rubens(Figure 1). Rubens created
this oil on canvas painting between 1604 and 1605 in Lombardy, Italy. Ruben s painting features
Leander, a youth of Abydos, who used to swim across the waters at night to Sestos on the
opposite side to meet his lover Hero, a priestess of Aphrodite. The painting measures 96 X 127 cm
and is currently located in the Yale University Art Museum, in New Haven, Connecticut. (Early
mythological paintings) From Hero and Leander we can see the influence that Michelangelo and
Titian had on Rubens during his career, in particular, how the human body moves in extreme ways.
Emil Kren and Daniel Marx, on the Web Gallery of Art, give a nice summary of the subject of
Ruben s painting.
The subject of the painting is a legend according to which

How Does Jesus Change During The Eucharist
In the book Encountering Christ in the Sacraments, it defines the word Real Presence as when
the bread is consecrated, it is changed into Christ s Body. When the wine is consecrated, it is
changed into Christ s Blood. The bread and wine do not literally change into flesh and blood, but
their substance is. However, this does not mean this is the only way a person can experience the
real presence of Jesus. In my life, I have felt this presence not by the Eucharist.
Though I did not feel it during the Eucharist, I did feel it during the mass. It was during the homily,
where the priest was telling the crowd a story that relates to the Gospel reading he just read. My
attention span began to shrink when I felt something wrap around my shoulders.

Examples Of Archetypes In An Old Friend
Intro to Lit

Block 4
Mid Term
After doing what a young girl at the edge of adulthood does like sneaking around, going to meet
boys rather than doing what she tells her parents, a young rebellious girl, Connie, who has a bad
relationship with her parents, works through the temptations and situations from a creepy guy by
the name of Arnold. Her consciousness of right and wrong outweigh all the temptations. These
decisions and temptations are shown through archetypes in Where Are You Going, Where Have
You Been by Joyce Carol Oates. Oates focuses on biblical symbols, symbolic colors, and her
beliefs in order to create her story and make it have the meaning it does. Arnold Friend is a
mysterious, creepy man who takes over Connie when her parents are away. Arnold s name is
connected to An Old Friend if you take out the r on Arnold. Friend is misinterpreted though when
the description of him states he is a boy with shaggy, black hair, in a convertible jalopy painted

The light colors usually, most the time represent good things. Dark colors most likely mean evil.
In the story most the colors go from light to dark, so things are good and turn bad. Arnold s car
is an example of bright things having a dark meaning because His car is painted a bright gold
that caught the sunlight opaquely so even though it was bright, it had a dark feel to it meaning
something bad (2). His name appears on his car in tar like black letters and both boys, Arnold
and Ellie, wear metallic sunglasses constantly as if they don t like the sunlight and are avoiding
it, reflecting and keeping it out because they are evil. Connie s dress does the same thing. In the
beginning she has on a bright green blouse and toward the end the dress darkens because she s
sweating(3). This shows the tone of her being happy hanging with friends, to bad and scared
because of what Arnold is doing to

Qing Dynasty Of China And Tokugawa Shogunate
Transformations in China and Japan In both the cases of the Qing Dynasty of China and the
Tokugawa Shogunate of Japan, their rule prospered until the centuries old dynastic systems were
overthrown in both countries. In their own ways the Qing and Tokugawa shared similarities yet
also displayed many differences in how they were overthrown, their impacts, and the forces that
overall led to the change at the end of these systems. Their influential powers from the 1600s to the
early 19th century brought great change to their countries that were seen well at first, but the
people were not happy with either complete outcome, overall leading to the definite ends of the two
powers despite their differences throughout. In the mid 1600s, rebellion... Show more content on

For both, the leaders of each had to eventually sign treaties which angered the people and caused
much discontent. In Japan, the shogun gave in and signed the Treaty of Kanagawa in 1854. The
people felt that the shogun had given in too easily to the wants of westerners and were getting
angry. In China after the Boxer Uprising, Cixi was forced to sign a treaty the created reform in
China. She had not been doing what was right with the purpose of the Boxers, and other
countries needed her to take more control than let it happen as she was doing (China and the
New Imperialism). Connected to the Boxers, in both countries foreigners caused conflict,
causing even more anger among the people. For Cixi, the Boxers were fueled by hatred for
foreigners, and she saw it as no real problem for what they were doing, even though it was
literally hurting and killing the foreign people. In Japan, Commodore Matthew Perry came from
the United States, opening up ideas of trade that Japan had to truly think about. They had been
isolated for 200 years, and suddenly many foreigners from different countries were coming to trade
with them. By agreeing to trade, the shogun made many of his people angry and ultimately led to
his own downfall (Japan and the West). Also by overall changing policies that both countries had
relied on for so long, it created an almost inevitable change that the people could

Soccer is one of my first loves in life, so given the opportunity to pass this love on to someone
else I jumped at the chance. During the spring soccer season of 2016 a competitive U12 girls
soccer team needed a coach, and I jumped at the opportunity. The team consisted of fifteen girls
between the ages of ten and twelve. I ve played soccer for eleven years; in the past, I coached two
recreational soccer teams. Coaching a competitive soccer team was something I figured I was up
for the challenge of. Regular season playwent reasonably well, but the highlight of the season was
when the team went to The Yellowstone Cup in Rexburg, Idaho. This is where we had the most

Everyone was keyed up for the game. You could feel the energy on the field, it was contagious.
After warm ups the referees had us line up and walk onto the field and face the crowd, so our
fans could take pictures of us. Once the referee blew the whistle and the game started the
intensity instantly doubled. Right as the game started, I could see the new formation we
worked on in our game against Bridger valley that morning wasn t going to work. The Pocatello
players were penetrating our defense. Changing formations on the fly with young players is
extremely difficult. While I was struggling to get the team to understand what I wanted them to
do, Pocatello scored. I did a couple substitutions at the restart, so I could put the team back in its
regular formation. We continued to fight for the rest of the half, but we just couldn t get any
shots in the net. Right before the half ended one of my speedy outside defenders collided with
another player and went down. Her knee popped and hurt to walk on, so she could no longer
play. The trainer that was covering the game said nothing in her knee was torn, but it probably
would be best if she didn t continue to play. The referee restarted the game, and we continued until
halftime. At halftime we talked about staying calm and passing the ball instead of just trying to
kick it down the middle of the field. Once the game started in the first few minutes we controlled

Wood is also aseptically pleasing and can provide a more relaxed, warmer environment for
customers. To maximise the full potential of timber construction the use of glued laminated
timber (Glulam) could be used in the design to offer improved strength and increased spans.
Glulam structures offer excellent performance in the case of a fire. It can be calculated to a
0.7mm per min char rate and unlike steel it can retain its strength. (Carpenter Oak and Wood Land,

because it s a widely utilised technique within the industry. They can be considered very similar to
timber framed construction in terms of similar working methods. Steel frames are already
commonly used for retail spaces as they can provide the wide open spans required in retail spaces,
quick erecting times during construction and the industry, such as contractors are generally familiar
with its properties. Furthermore another motive for steel is that there are many manufacturers and
suppliers established in the UK that specialise in steel construction and manufacturing. This

  • 2. Essay about Hidden Curriculum of Hegemony and Capitalism Hidden Curriculum of Hegemony and Capitalism The Oxford Dictionary and Thesaurus, defines education as, the field of study that deals with methods of teaching and learning in schools, (Elliott, 1997:237). In contrast, the Oxford Dictionary of Sociology, defines education as, a philosophical as well as a sociological concept, denoting ideologies, curricula, and pedagogical techniques of the inculcation [instilling/persistent teaching] and management of knowledge and the social reproduction of personalities and cultures, (Marshall, 1998: 183). Finally, one last definition defines education as, the social institution guiding a society s transmission of knowledge including basic facts, job skills, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is obvious that schools operations are largely based on political and economic reforms. Students are encouraged to attend school in order to gain an education and as a result, to qualify in some form to enter the workforce. Students from a very young age are exposed to hidden messages that suggest life is equated with achieving well at school. Students are also exposed to a set curriculum content, which often appears to be related to political movements at any given time. This formal curriculum allows students to gain knowledge of how and why things are the way they are. The formal education that students receive at school revolves around the content of the curriculum; however, there remains a whole hidden curriculum of values and social orientations that students are constantly subject to alongside this formal learning. The Hidden Curriculum as it is known, operates more or less on the level of a mini society, making students accustomed to the regulations, social values and norms of the broader society. As it is stated by the Oxford Dictionary of Sociology, the hidden curriculum, refers to the way in which cultural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Color Of Water By James Mcbride The Color of Water, James McBride s autobiography and tribute to his mother, gives the reader a look into his childhood and growing up biracial. James McBride was born to an African American father and a Polish Jewish immigrant mother in 1957. While James was too young to fully grasp the civil rights and black power events that took place in the 1960s, he recounts experiencing these events vicariously through his older siblings. James McBride does a marvelous job at painting a vivid picture for his readers in The Colorof Water. Although McBride utilizes language and rhetorical devices to alter meaning there are passages that require critical examination of language. A critical examination of language contributes to our understanding of a literary text by deepening and expanding our understanding of a work of literature. A critical analysis of The Color of Water will allow us to break this piece of literature into parts and examine its components. In doing so, the reader can offer alternative meanings about each part. The first sentence of The Color of Water prepares the reader for what is to come. I m dead. You want to talk about my family and here I been dead to them for fifty years. Leave me alone. Don t bother me. From this sentence we can infer McBride s mother will be a vital part of this literature, however, the reader will learn about the writer s mother as McBride attempts to figure his mother s life story together. James truly wants to know about his mother s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. John Smith In Pocahontas John Smith a widely known, beloved, Disney character in the movie Pocahontas. However, he is also an important and influential person in history. Both of these characters differ greatly from real life, to a movie character. In the Disney movie, John Smith is shown as Caucasian, slender, with blond hair and blue eyes. ( John Smith ). He is also shown in an age range from about 20 25. Socially, John Smith is shown to have many friends in the movie as well as being brave, and fighting for the rights of the Indians. Throughout the movie John Smith is shown to have only one motivation: to fight for good by protecting the Native Americans. From all of this information, and the events in the movie, I felt that sympathized with him. He was the clear protagonist in the movie and fought for good. Even though John Smith is painted as a good person in Pocahontashe was actually a very different person in real life.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Little is known about John Smith s real appearance but that he was about 30 years old, and is depicted as being short with a full beard. In real life John Smith was known for his abrasive attitude, and was even almost killed multiple times. John Smith had a trade agreement with the Native Americans for some time, and was mostly friendly, but later in his life turned on them and put many into slavery or killed them. Not only did John Smith not have many close allies, he also was described as an [Ambitious] unworthy and [vainglorious] [fellow] ( Captain Smith ). John Smith was also widely known as someone who stretched the truth quite a bit in his stories. In fact most of his documentations were proved to be false. After finding out what John Smith was really like I did not like him. I believe that he was nothing more than a liar who was embodied a hero in American ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Honors Class Reflection Upon looking back at my honors experience at Elgin Community College, I vividly remember the first honors class that I attended, American Government, or POS 150. I remember being extremely nervous to attend this class. At this point in my ECC career, I still doubted myself when it came to my academics and what I was capable of. I kept thinking that I was going to fail my honors class and ruin my honors experience. What I soon came to realize was that this class was going to be something completely different than the traditional classes that I had taken before. The setting of this class was mostly discussion, lecture, and reflection. We had our textbook, Democracy for the Few, and each week we were instructed to read a chapter and then come to class ready to discuss and share our ideas. I loved this attribute of the class because we could always input different ideas and connect with other students in the class since there were ten of us in the classroom. Not only did I love how the class was structured and run, but also the information and material that I learned along the way. Since this class was American Government, I went into it thinking that I would know some of the basics that we learn throughout high school, but I was mistaken. Everything that I learned was completely new to me. Sadly, what I was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This class, allowed my eyes to be opened to the true United States that we live in and all of its different policies. I felt like I was not given the full truth all throughout elementary, middle, and high school, but rather just the simplified version. In a way, I wish that I was taught things differently in high school, so that I would be more prepared for my American government class and not be so perplexed by every new topic. • 6. How The Battle Of Antietam Changed America Cannonballs flew left and right and bullets soared through the air in the deadliest and most important battle of the Civil War, the Battle of Antietam. The Battle of Antietam was the single bloodiest day in the Civil War, but it was a very important turning point in the Civil War. The Civil War changed America., and America would have been a completely different place if it weren t for the one most important battle in the Civil War, The Battle of Antietam. The Battle of Antietam gave the Union a moral victory which resulted in Abraham Lincolnissuing the Emancipation Proclamation, allowing slaves to be freed and the union to win the war. The Battle of Antietam was the only battle in the Civil War fought in the North, and was the single bloodiest... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of these reasons is that Britain and France would have allied with the South if it weren t for the Battle of Antietam. Britain and France were suffering shortages of the cotton from the South, and they were close to joining the South to help them split. The South had had many victories recently, and it looked like they could have won, but after the Battle of Antietam, the European nations stayed neutral. Another reason that this battle changed the war is that it helped Lincoln win the midterm election. Before the Battle of Antietam, Democrats had been campaigning on the failing war effort, and it was looking like they would control the Senate. If the Democrats had taken control of the Senate, they would likely have voted to end the war and let the South split from the north. However, after the Battle of Antietam, the Republicans gained more support and gained even more seats in the Senate. The Battle of Antietam also helped Lincoln to see the weakness in his general and replace McClellan. Lincoln had ordered McClellan to destroy the Army of North Virginia if possible, but McClellan, with twice the manpower and the enemy pinned against the Potomac, had many opportunities to do so but held back (Klein). McClellan didn t destroy the Army of North Virginia despite having the perfect opportunity to do so, and doing this could have ended the war much earlier. Despite having the Confederate battle plans and twice the manpower, McClellan was still unable to win the battle, and it ended in a draw. This showed Lincoln that McClellan was incapable of leading the army, and he replaced McClellan with Ambrose Burnside as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. A Report On Cystic Fibrosis Cystic Fibrosis Cystic fibrosis is described as a congenital disorder affecting exocrine gland function, with respiratory effects, including excessive secretions, obstruction of the bronchial system, infection, and tissue damage (Kowalczyk, 2014). Cystic fibrosis is also known as CF, and is the most common lethal disease in white children (Kowalczyk, 2014). People whom have CF have histologically normal lungs at birth. Lung damage occurs when secretions from the enlarged bronchial glands gradually increase; this leads to the obstruction of the bronchial system (Kowalczyk, 2014). Mucus clogs the airways and this plugging promotes infection such as staph which causes more tissue damage; it also causes atelectasis and emphysema. Once this destructive cycle starts, it is very difficult to stop and ultimately results in respiratory failure (Cystic Fibrosis Foundation). Doctors will follow the diseases progression by chest x ray; it will show the gradual worsening of structural abnormalities (Kowalczyk, 2014). CF does not just affect the respiratory system, but also affects the exocrine system. Parts of the exocrine system affected are salivary glands, the small bowel, pancreas, biliary tract, a female s cervix, and the male genital system (Kowalczyk, 2014). The mucus in the pancreas stops the release of digestive enzymes; these digestive enzymes are imperative for the body to break down food and absorb nutrients (Cystic Fibrosis Foundation). • 9. Naturalism in Miss Julie Essay Naturalism in Miss Julie Writers involved in the naturalist movement believed that actors lines should be spoken naturally, and that mechanical movements, vocal effects, and irrational gestures should be banished. A return to reality was proposed, with the old theatrical attitudes replaced with effects produced solely by the voice. There was a call to individualise characters, instead of generalising them, to produce characters whose minds and bodies would function as they would in real life. Strindberg s Miss Julie has been said to be an excellent example of this movement, as it involves stress on multiple motivation of action; a departure from the stereotypical depictions of character; and random, illogical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is also the bluntly overt exchange of lines such as, Beast! Menial! Lackey! Menial s whore, lackey s harlot! It has been proposed that this retreat to the characteristics of old theatricality is perhaps only redeemed in the last minutes, when the stage action becomes solemnly symbolic. The end of the relationship is represented by the decapitation of Julie s songbird; the sudden ring of the Count s bell introduces a character that has been silent throughout, present only in spirit. Jean places a razor in Julie s hand, and she walks out to her death in silence, as if in a hypnotic trance. Her death is not as melodramatic or theatrical as her previous behaviour, so this goes some way to compensate for earlier lapses. Strindberg expressed an aversion to dividing his play into acts, as he believed that, the declining capacity for illusion is possibly affected by intervals, which give spectators the time to reflect and thereby withdraw from the suggestive influence of the author hypnotist. His theory centres on the assumption that by eliminating intervals, which act as breaks from the action, continuity would improve, thereby increasing the intense nature of the plays action and creating a claustrophobic environment. In order not to break the illusion, he also wanted to be rid of any musicians that the audience could see, and would not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Effects Of Immune System On The Body Immunity MersihaFrlj Herzing University, Minneapolis MN The purpose of the immune system is to prevent and minimize infections; this is how the body protects us from microbes that would otherwise make us ill or kill us (Dugdale, 2013). The immune system works by differentiating between our own cells (self antigens), foreign cells (antigens), and pathogenic microbes (Dugdale, 2013). When our cells discover anything unfamiliar, our immune system works to destroy it(Dug dale, 2013). If the immune system cannot activate to kill foreign cells, we can get infections (Dugdale, 2013). Conversely, if it is activated without any foreign cells present it can cause pathopysiological problems (Dugdale,2013). This paper will focus on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both poems are presented in the form of dramatic monologues that describe how the women use their jealousy to ensure that their partners stay with them. • 13. The Third And Final Constant Factor Essay The third and final constant factor originates directly as a result of the anarchic international environment. As stated, a state acts largely in its own best interest. However, given more than one state exists, multiple interests oftentimes intersect. Competition, the final constant, results from this intersection. Rarely, this competition spins out of control into armed conflict. Prior to engaging in war, a state must carefully weigh any potential benefits against likely costs. Mearsheimer defines this as calculated aggression. Most likely, state level competition remains at a level lower than war. Over time, state power balances develop and eventually solidify. Most importantly, state competition, a state s prevailing interest to secure an improved chance for its continued survival, remains firmly in place. Seen in this light, both Waltz and Gilpin s arguments for modifying or upending this balance make better sense. Waltz argues that the international structure limits state behavior. A state can pursue its interest only so far as to not upset the international balance. Gilpin steps past Waltz concluding a state can choose to remake the balance if it decides its benefits outweigh expected costs. One could view Gilpin as a balanced (no pun intended) medium between Mearsheimer s aggression and Waltz s caution. Despite their respective differences, in prescribing to a realist philosophy, Mearsheimer, Walz, and Gilpin would each conclude persistent state ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many things that she explains in the beginning of the book can be summed together with the thought that God governs everything. So, because someone at some time buried the treasure, does that mean one was meant to find it? Yes, I believe that someone was meant to find it, and it is that person s chance that led him or her to do so. However, in quot; The Consolation of Philosophy quot;, the idea is that there is no chance in Gods point of view; that God has a supreme knowledge of everything, and things do not seem to be chance to him because he may foresee their occurrence. It is implied that God created the world and the order that it stands in, and that he knows everything that will ever happen to us. So, how is it, then, that we have free will if God already knows what will happen to us? Does he choose our destiny, or do we shape it ourselves? I believe that while God may know our destinies, we do shape them ourselves. It is possible for God to know our destinies because he knows the future. However, the future in God s perspective is not really the future per se, it is just a depiction of sequence of things rather than a moment of occurrence. In the book, Philosophy explains that quot;It is not necessary, they say, that what is foreseen must happen, but it is necessary that what is destined to happen must be foreseen. quot; (p. __) This may help explain the idea that even though God knows something, it does not mean that he chose it. The differences between the two are that active fire protection requires outside help in the form of mechanical or electrical power for the device to work. A passive system works with no outside help at all. Fire containment is a passive protection method. There are three types of passive devices: limiting the rate of fire growth, fire containment and then emergency egress. Fire containment is accomplished by limiting a fully involved fire to the room or area that it is located. This is done through continuous researching and testing. Tests can be conducted under non load bearing, load bearing, unrestrained, and restrained conditions. Non load bearing tests are conducted to determine when the fire will spread to the neighboring compartment. This happens when the heat transfer is high enough to ignite items in the non fire room. This test can also result in the wall becoming too hot and cracking, creating a path for the fire to travel. The test is measured by the time it takes for cotton waste on the unexposed side to ignite. Unlike the non load bearing test, the load bearing test is conducted to see how long the structure will withstand before is collapses. A collapse not only creates a path for the fire to travel, but it also affects the safety of anyone that would be inside. The test is conducted while the assembly being tested is under a weighted load, and the test is concluded when the assembly begins to collapse. This test is mainly used for wood. Steel and concrete are tested without weight because they will arch when they near breaking point. When testing steel framed floors, ceilings, and roof assemblies, they are tested under both restrained and unrestrained conditions. For example, most social workers, no matter their religion believe that all people have worth, and see a great importance in the showing of understanding and kindness towards them. Through my studies in APS 101, at Redeemer University College, I have learned that social workwas brought up by the Church; I never knew of this relationship. Contrary to this, these super cells have the growing potential to put an end to many medical disputes. Importance of Ambitions in Life Essay Importance of Ambitions in Life Ambition is defined as a strong desire to obtain success, power, or riches or as something that you want very much to do or to obtain. Having an ambition represents everything to many people. The only purpose in a man s life is fulfilling his dream, because am ambition can be associated with a dream. And if this dream doesn t exist you can t say that you have lived your life to the full. In the moments of solitary meditation when we are alone with ourselves and we can no longer lie or delude ourselves, we ask the fundamental question: why do I have to die, why is it that my life must end, why is my existence finite, limited in time? Ambition is the catalyst that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The creative act is born from an irresistible impulse towards the absolute, that is the wish of the individual to lift his subjectivity to the maximum perfection allowed by his spiritual resources and then to transpose this degree of spiritual elevation into a concrete world. On the other hand, the creative act is born from the hope that people will recognize the value of his work and therefore remember his name forever. You should consider the first aspiration of the individual. We can assert that that it is dissolved in a paradox. Of course, the process of creation augments substantially the spiritual energies of the individual, it even makes him think that he represents the supreme measure of the generating principle of life, but the work, the product of this process does not succeed in conveying all the superior exigencies of the creator and, consequently, it does not completely confirm his exceptional self appreciation during the creation of his work. But in my opinion when you have an ambition it means that you are living for fulfilling it, you live your life to the full, you are completely dedicated and focused on what you want to achieve or fulfil. When you have a certain ambition, even if it is a very strange one and you hope every day that one day you will fulfil it, you have passion and you give everything you have to see you dream come true. • 33. Fortunato Short Story Analysis This story by Edgar Allan Poe is one of premeditated murder. Montresor tells the story of the night when he took his revenge on Fortunato, his friend. Montresor is upset about a long term insult between his family and Fortunato s because Montresor says: Thousand injuries that he has suffered at the hands of Fortunato . He plots to murder his friend during carnival, an event that is usually represented by joy. Montresor chooses the exact moment when the man is drunk and not in his correct mind. Montresor tricks Fortunato into the catacombs to try a wine and eventually seals Fortunato within the catacombs to die. The story s setting describes one closely related to horror, as Poe causes the readers to predict, to fear, and tremble in the opening. The atmosphere of horror increases much more as Montresor describes his adventure with Fortunato into the vaults. There are several examples of verbal irony within Montresor s words. Montresor says one thing that has more than one meaning. Early on, Montresor gives demanding orders to his attendants, not to leave the house, knowing that this will ensure that they would. More than once in the writing we can see Montresor calling Fortunato his friend, while taking him to death. Fortunato says that his cough will not kill him. A cough won t kill me , he says, and Montresor replies, True, true . This quote is probably the most memorable line of the story because he was sure that the cause of his death would not be his cough. Verbal irony along with dark humor seems to fill the whole story. It kind of baffles the reader to think one can be so blindsided into falling for some of the things Montresor has set up for Fortunato s fate. Many times verbal irony has more than one meaning which makes this story as great as it is. In Montresor s last words there is the last example of irony, it happened when Montresor realized that his friend had finally passed. He called Fortunato s name repeatedly, with no answer. Montresor threw his torch into the small hole and it fell into Fortunato s place of death. His last words to his friend were In pace requiescat, which means rest in peace. The irony can be interpreted in two ways, one is Montresor wishing his friend to rest in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Holmes, whose point of view is half of the story, as the Devil incarnate: evil and subhuman. Larson utilizes imagery to exemplify Holmes character and actions to the audience. He describes Holmes reaction to a friend s sister s death to give the reader an idea of the cold inhumanity he possesed. Even though Holmes told Ned how sorry he was about her passing, yet in his eyes there was only a flat blue calm like that of a lake on a still August morning (123). When he reacts with such a flat blue calm, the reader can clearly see that he did not posses even the slightest bit of sincerity. This important muscle is used to pump and create pressure to circulate blood throughout our bodies2. It is important for our heart to properly function because it helps blood deliver important nutrients and oxygen to the rest of our body. The heart is located in between the lungs (2/3 slightly tilted to the left), in the central portion of the thorax2. The atria collect the blood versus the ventricles which pump out the blood to the rest of the body. • 47. Hero and Leander by Peter Paul Reubens During this semester s course we have studied various styles of art throughout Europe, and what has intrigued me the most is Baroque art. Baroque, as we have studied it, is a period of artistic style that used exaggerated motion and clear, easily interpreted detail to produce drama, in sculpture, and painting. Baroquestyle began in Rome, Italy in the 1600s and quickly spread throughout Europe. The Baroque style was endorsed by the Roman Catholic Church, in their response to the Protestant Reformation. The Church encouraged artists to create works of art that would connect their audience intellectually and emotionally with religious themes. For my final visual analysis I have chosen Hero and Leander, by Peter Paul Rubens(Figure 1). Rubens created this oil on canvas painting between 1604 and 1605 in Lombardy, Italy. Ruben s painting features Leander, a youth of Abydos, who used to swim across the waters at night to Sestos on the opposite side to meet his lover Hero, a priestess of Aphrodite. The painting measures 96 X 127 cm and is currently located in the Yale University Art Museum, in New Haven, Connecticut. (Early mythological paintings) From Hero and Leander we can see the influence that Michelangelo and Titian had on Rubens during his career, in particular, how the human body moves in extreme ways. She had not been doing what was right with the purpose of the Boxers, and other countries needed her to take more control than let it happen as she was doing (China and the New Imperialism). Connected to the Boxers, in both countries foreigners caused conflict, causing even more anger among the people. For Cixi, the Boxers were fueled by hatred for foreigners, and she saw it as no real problem for what they were doing, even though it was literally hurting and killing the foreign people. In Japan, Commodore Matthew Perry came from the United States, opening up ideas of trade that Japan had to truly think about. They had been isolated for 200 years, and suddenly many foreigners from different countries were coming to trade with them. By agreeing to trade, the shogun made many of his people angry and ultimately led to his own downfall (Japan and the West). Also by overall changing policies that both countries had relied on for so long, it created an almost inevitable change that the people could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 52. Personal Narrative Soccer Team Soccer is one of my first loves in life, so given the opportunity to pass this love on to someone else I jumped at the chance. During the spring soccer season of 2016 a competitive U12 girls soccer team needed a coach, and I jumped at the opportunity. The team consisted of fifteen girls between the ages of ten and twelve. I ve played soccer for eleven years; in the past, I coached two recreational soccer teams. Coaching a competitive soccer team was something I figured I was up for the challenge of. Regular season playwent reasonably well, but the highlight of the season was when the team went to The Yellowstone Cup in Rexburg, Idaho. This is where we had the most growth as a team and where I learned the most about tactics as a coach. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everyone was keyed up for the game. You could feel the energy on the field, it was contagious. After warm ups the referees had us line up and walk onto the field and face the crowd, so our fans could take pictures of us. Once the referee blew the whistle and the game started the intensity instantly doubled. Right as the game started, I could see the new formation we worked on in our game against Bridger valley that morning wasn t going to work. The Pocatello players were penetrating our defense. Changing formations on the fly with young players is extremely difficult. While I was struggling to get the team to understand what I wanted them to do, Pocatello scored. I did a couple substitutions at the restart, so I could put the team back in its regular formation. We continued to fight for the rest of the half, but we just couldn t get any shots in the net. Right before the half ended one of my speedy outside defenders collided with another player and went down. Her knee popped and hurt to walk on, so she could no longer play. The trainer that was covering the game said nothing in her knee was torn, but it probably would be best if she didn t continue to play. The referee restarted the game, and we continued until halftime. At halftime we talked about staying calm and passing the ball instead of just trying to kick it down the middle of the field. Once the game started in the first few minutes we controlled the ball and had a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wood is also aseptically pleasing and can provide a more relaxed, warmer environment for customers. To maximise the full potential of timber construction the use of glued laminated timber (Glulam) could be used in the design to offer improved strength and increased spans. Glulam structures offer excellent performance in the case of a fire. It can be calculated to a 0.7mm per min char rate and unlike steel it can retain its strength. (Carpenter Oak and Wood Land, 2011) 4.2 Steel frame We thought that steel frame was an obvious system to analysis and compare because it s a widely utilised technique within the industry. They can be considered very similar to timber framed construction in terms of similar working methods. Steel frames are already commonly used for retail spaces as they can provide the wide open spans required in retail spaces, quick erecting times during construction and the industry, such as contractors are generally familiar with its properties. Furthermore another motive for steel is that there are many manufacturers and suppliers established in the UK that specialise in steel construction and manufacturing. This provides a competitive market that would help reduce costs and lead times when ordering. However steel demands lots of energy in during its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
