Social norms have long been dictated by racism. Prior to the Loving v. Virginia
Supreme Court Case in 1967, it was socially acceptable for certain states to dictate
which race of people one could marry from. For example, in many southern states, it
was illegal for a white man to marry a black woman. It was not until the Loving v.
Virginia case reached the Supreme Court in 1966 that the constitutionality of these
laws was considered. The Loving v. Virginia case erupted when Richard and Mildred
Loving were arrested when they returned to their house in Caroline County, Virginia
after traveling to Washington D.C. to get married (Newbeck and Wolfe). Prior to the

My Adulthood Memories And Memories Of A Childhood
Home
Places are more than less often full of memories. Rooms have narratives that can be
told through the items and furniture they contain. These narratives are often
overlooked and not thought about, especially in places where one does not want to
spend a particularly large amount of time. Rooms speak, even though we often don t
want to listen, or don t want to know. Basements are often like this, full of broken
thing and memories, knee deep castaways, childhood toys and holiday lights. The
basementin my childhood home is this way, completely divided into then and now;
simply, entirely, depressing. This room is split into two distinct halves. The stairs
are creaky and off white, stained grey and black from soda spills, muddy shoes,
snow slush and dirty dog feet. Clumps of dog hair sit in the corners of each step,
wrapped up into dust balls. At the bottom, to the immediate left, is where a
playroom used to be. There are drawings and old bits of paper stuck up on the
walls, hinting as to what this space used to contain. Now, a large, professional grade
ping pong table sits in the middle of the room. Once loved, the table is now stacked
