Coyotes Vs Dogs
Coyotes and dogs have the same genus which is Canis but their species are different. Since coyotes
have the same genus as dogs they have many of the same traits. A similarity is that they are about the
same size. From about two weeks old till the end of a coyotes life they will usually live alone unless
they are in a pack. Coyotes are predators of farmers livestock and because of that farmers will hunt the
coyotes. In order to understand the significance of coyotes, one must understand their dog like
characteristics, the smart way of reproduction and parenting, and the challenges of their survival.
To learn about coyotes, one must know its characteristics. Some of the characteristics that are
important to know is that they are a least concerned animal because of their adaptability. Being a least
concerned animal means that they do not have a trouble surviving and are farthest away from being
endangered. Because coyotes can adapt very easily they live in most of North America. Coyotes will
live to be ten to fourteen years old. Dogs and coyotes can breed but it is very uncommon in the wild
because their breeding seasons are at different times. When they do breed their offspring is called a
coydog. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Females will begin mating around two years old, and they will breed during December to March. The
females pregnancy will only last about sixty days and will give birth to five or six pups each weighing
around nine ounces. The pups are born blind and will be blind until two weeks old. The parents will
protect the pups and get them food. To protect the pups the mother will build dens and will keep the
pups inside of them. To prevent from being tracked down they will switch from den to den. After the
pups are old enough to survive on their own the dens will be abandoned, and the parents will leave the
pup so it can learn to live on its

Young Goodman Brown amp; The Lottery
A review of both stories
In this essay I will take the time to review two stories both of the fiction nature. I will discuss the
conflicts of both stories as well as the plot structure. I will talk about the characters and give my point
of view. Both stories are very thought provoking which should make this very interesting to compare
and contrast.
In the story of Young Goodman Brown we can understand the setting from what the limited
omniscient narrator is describing to us. The reader gets a visual of a spooky setting of dark woods in
the nearby town of Salem. The first thing a reader would think of when they hear ... Show more

On my latest research of obtaining a search warrant you will notice that in many cases because a
search warrant grants law enforcement officers the right to search parts of personal space that are not
normally open to public view, the US Constitution and all state constitutions require probable cause or
a fair amount of certainty that a search is related to a crime or criminal investigation before a judge
may issue a warrant. Indeed, a search warrant for one item cannot be used for a broader search of
another item not stated in the warrant. In completing a search warrant, you need to show that based on
the circumstances it s reasonable to believe that a search will produce useful information in solving a
crime. Also with that being said there are many different factors and other cases that deal with using a
search warrants like for example Marcus vs. Search Warrant in his case he had a magazine stand and
the officers pretty much went over their

Lincoln Vs Calhoun
As with Calhoun, Lincoln s notion of the Union and state sovereignty also ties into the principle of
majority rule. However, Lincoln has a far different opinion than Calhoun, arguing that within the
Union, the people, not the states, are the sovereign body, founded on the principle of majority rule.
Furthermore, in Lincoln s opinion, if you have a government based on majority rule, secession cannot
possibly be considered legal or constitutional. While Calhoun fears majority rule will lead to tyranny
and the infringement of the minority s liberty, Lincoln believes it is the foundation of our government
and protects majority will from suppression by a smaller party. Discussing this point further, Lincoln
writes, Unanimity is impossible; the rule of the minority, as a permanent arrangement, is wholly
inadmissible; so that, rejecting the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All rules, laws, or amendments will produce a majority and minority opinion. Ultimately, while
Calhoun argues that majority rule leads to majority tyranny, Lincoln claims that secession allows
tyranny of the minority by allowing a small group of people to undermine the entire government.
Furthermore, because government is based on majority rule, secession violates both the Union and
Constitution. As Lincoln notes, if all the States, save one, should assert the power to drive that one out
of the Union, it is presumed the whole class of seceding politicians would at once deny the power, and
denounce the act as the greatest outrage against State rights (Lincoln 252). Lincoln points out the
hypocrisy in Calhoun s argument, claiming that if the roles were reversed and the majority was trying
to drive out the minority, advocates of secession would be outraged. As a whole, Lincoln is a large
critic of the views of Calhoun, and presents arguments that are polar opposites of his ideology
regarding the Union and majority

A Short Note On Chronic And Chronic Illness
Ms. Jones has a both acute and chronic illness which makes her situation more complex. The acute
conditions have a great potential to be reversed; she has a critical hemoglobin (Hgb) level of 6.4 g/dl,
a major infection and a left gangrenous extremity that requires emergent care. Treatment of the acute
condition may be complicated by her chronic condition of diabetes. Immediate care is required to
avoid the spread of the infection and a further decline in her Hgb level which could result in a fatality.
Stabilization of her Hgb level and starting intravenous antibiotic therapy is necessary to avoid harm;
decreasing her chance of cardiac arrest and systemic infection which would increase the likelihood of
success in her case. This scenario does not mention her blood glucose (BG) level but another way
harm can be avoided is by assuring her BG level is within an acceptable range, as well. Therefore,
admitting her to a medical surgical unit to stabilize her Hgb and BG may be necessary prior to surgery.
Although her anemia could be a result of her infection the practitioner should make an effort to
determine the cause of her low Hgb levels to avoid further complications and develop future treatment
plans. However, medical care would not be indicated, if Ms. Jones continues to refuse blood
transfusions. Therefore, more of a palliative or hospice care path may be indicated versus medical and
surgical acute care. According to our text, Ms. Jones has not had a mini mental

Negative Impact of Whaling in Japan
Biodiversity often appears as an under the radar issue that is put on the backburner to other
environmental problems such as: climate change, ocean acidification, or ozone depletion. When in
reality, it should really be a frontrunner as it explicitly involves all living things that dwell within our
shared biosphere. While the human population did not really start making waves to remedy the
endangerment or extinction of plants and animals until the 1970s with laws that included, the Marine
Mammal Protection Act and the Endangered Species Act; we have proved that our part in biodiversity
is crucial now that we live in the anthropogenic age. A hot and debated topic on the subject of
biodiversity arose with the International Whaling Commission
(IWC), an international body that is set on goals to preserve whale stocks and regulate whaling as to
help various species recover from near endangerment. Most all practices of hunting whales were
banned along the globe but, exceptions were made in cases such as Japan; for alleged scientific
purposes. The focus issues of this paper will stem from the controversy involving whaling,
specifically in Japan, because while they justify their reasons for continued whale hunting, they still
walk a fine line in the eyes of anti whalers and whale watchers alike.
Commercial whaling was banned by the IWC around 1986 but the hunting still continued under
certain expectations. ...Japan, or at least the country s Fisheries

Being An Alcoholic
This time they decided to send me out of town to a program in Arizona. I arrived there on a Friday,
however, the program wasn t to commence until that Monday. There was no way I was going to check
in and be on lockdown, knowing that I still had a weekend to play with. I checked into a hotel and
prepared myself for, what I thought would turn out, a great time. I learned that things don t always
turn out as planned. I hit the town running at full speed seeking the first bar I could locate to get things
kicked off. Before I knew it, I had gone from one bar to another, even catching taxis to get to and from
them. When I made it back to the hotel room, I was pretty loaded and should have called it quits. But
there s another thing I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But the party didn t end there. Later that Saturday afternoon, I was released on my own
reconnaissance and I headed back to the room. I still had a full day to enjoy prior to checking in on
that Monday and I had no plans on allowing it to go to waste. I had my wallet with my debit card in it
and conveniently enough, there was an ATM machine in the lobby of the hotel. I withdrew additional
funds from my bank account and once again I was out and about in pursuit of some to drink. I tried to
convince myself to be more careful the second time around because I didn t want to repeat what I had
just experienced the night before. Early on, everything was going as planned. I was drinking, feeling
good and was still partially coherent. I was feeling well enough to call it quits, but the night still
seemed young and I thought I d challenge a few more shots prior to retiring for that evening. I believe
I can vaguely remember having one more drink before everything went pitch black again. By the time
the lights came back on, once again, there I was on the county s floor as a repeat offender of public
intoxication.
There was, however, something different about this time. Before I was released that Sunday, one of
the deputies pulled me to the side for a quick chat. He told me that I was found in a dark space behind
an abandoned building with my shirt open and my pockets turned inside out missing all of its contents.

Gorbachev Imperialism
Leonid Brezhnev and Mikhail Gorbachev were Soviet leaders in the late 1900s. They had similarities
and differences as leaders. First of all, Brezhnev, a hard nosed communist, cared a lot about
communist countries because the Soviet Union had the right to intervene if communism was
threatened in other communist state. On the other hand, Gorbachev had no intention in communist
countries. A foreign policy under Gorbachev was not very strong. However, the economy in the Soviet
Union under both Brezhnev and Gorbachev was bad. According to Brezhnev, the government s central
planning led to a huge and complex bureaucracy, collective farmers had no incentive to work hard,
and there were high standard of living. Also, under Gorbachev, the economic issues led to a slow
down in the arms race. It tripled the national debt in US and the cost of maintaining satellite states and
an enormous military budget under communism were too high that they would not afford it.
Furthermore, due to the ethnic tensions and allowing non communist political party to organize, one
by one the Soviet Republics voted for independence and finally led to a fall of communism in Eastern
Europe and the Soviet Union. 4. The fall of the Soviet Union impacted several satellite states.

The author, Julia Galeota makes three points against cultural imperialism in her essay. The first point
is that many cultures are disappearing due to the overwhelming influence of American tradition. I
refute to this statement because they are just smaller and less influential than American culture. It is
quite exaggerated to say that other cultures are disappearing. For instance, four years ago, a Korean
song called Gangnam Style struck the whole world with its catchy rhythm, dance and funny music
video. It even took second on the Billboard. This shows that other cultures still have a chance to beat
American culture. American culture never stopped other cultures to spread or stand on

Environmental Sustainability in the United State
Professor Timothy Oladunni
4/27/17
Environmental sustainability is the rates of renewable resource harvest, pollution creation, and non
renewable resource depletion that can be continued indefinitely. If they cannot be continued
indefinitely then they are not sustainable (Daly 1990). It is a state in which the demands on the
environment can be met without reducing its capacity to allow all people to live well, now and in the
future. The question here is whether the United States is environmentally sustained, my answer would
be yes, to the best of their ability. In order to do this, they are environmental sustainability laws in the
United States which include ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The goal of environmental sustainability is to conserve natural resources and to develop alternate
sources of power while reducing pollution and harm to the environment (Rinkesh 2009). Their
mission is to promote sustainable engineered systems that supports human well being and that are also
compatible with sustaining natural environmental systems in other words, environmental sustainability
in the United States ensures that incorporating preservation areas and contributing to the overall
preservation of a different wetland area that the damage is balanced out. It argues that the local
economic benefits will lead to more funding to create environmental protection areas elsewhere.
Why is environmental sustainability important in the United States? Environmental sustainability in
the United States is extremely important because it sets a balance between the needs of a growing and
changing population and the ability of natural resources to support growth. Environmental sustainable
helps support smart growth, retain residents in our county and preserve opportunities for future
generations. Environmental sustainability is important because humans tend to be bad at systems
thinking. Environmental sustainability professionals are employed to help balance, or improve, the
human role in environmental

Adolph Coors year of 1985 was a great one. All the sales were record high while everyone else s was
dropping. The significance of this was astounding since the beer industry was down all together.
People didn t drink a lot of beer but, Coors beer jumped by 13% during that time. This shows how
Coors can adapt with the industry and even though the industry may change Coors can still keep the
competitiveness up with other vendors. If Coors continues the way they are and stay on top of the
industry, they will be able to stay competitive and be the best brewing company in the United States.
There are many different types of beers such as light, premium, or super premium. Coors has been
able to impact all those different types and be competitive. They are able to satisfy all the type of beer
drinkers, and by doing this they are able to receive more of a profit by being able to satisfy all the beer
drinkers. By having distributors in the U.S. and Canada, Coors is able to hit many different markets
than other beer companies. This gets their name out to other countries and people will chose their
product over someone else because see Coors cans everywhere. By being able to have both of those

companies in the United States. Building a new brewing factory is in the works but is a work in
progress because of the labor situations. Unions are trying to unionize a plant but Coors cannot claim
that all of their beer is from the clear Rocky Mountain spring water. Coors should focus on cutting and
stabilizing their distribution. Having all these breweries should help lower the cost of keg and this
should help Coors with their profit

Chapter Summary Of The Adventures Of The Lindleys By David...
The story begins on a Sunday afternoon in the middle of summer. Neddy and Lucinda Merrill and
Helena and Donald Westerhazy are sitting around the pool complaining about their hangovers.
Cheever is describing how Neddy is feeling young and energetic and because of this he decides to
swim all the way home. His heart was high and he ran across the grass. Making a pilgrim, and
explorer, a man with a destiny, and he knew that he would find friends along the way. (Cheever 604).
He dives into the Westerhazy s pool thinking about all the pools that lie ahead and with that comes the
friends that will await him.

After finally able to cross the street Neddy finds himself at the public pool. It stank of chlorine and
looked to him like a sink (Cheever 608). Neddy was very displeased with all the rules at the public
pool. All the swimmers needed to shower, rinse their feet and wear their identification disks. He wasn
t able to swim leisurely in this pool like the others. He was forced to swim with his head up so other
swimmers did not bump into him. When he made it to the other side he made a mad dash to his next
destination, the Halloran s.
The true nature of Neddy is that he has made a habit of rejecting invitations, and as friend after friend

himself from those around him. He wasn t aware of his friends illnesses or friends that have moved

The Genetics of Lung Cancer

Cancer can be one of the hardest battles that one must face, whether that battle is lost or won, it
changes the lives of everyone involved. Lung cancer is one of the most diagnosed cancers and it
affects the lining of the lungs and the ability to breathe. Lung cancer is the number one killer of men
and women than any other cancer worldwide. This cancer is mostly found in smokers and this is why
professionals are targeting this population for testing for diagnosing early and possibly saving a life

According to the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) the researchers identified a
large region on human chromosome 6 that conferred greater lung cancer risk in families with many
affected individuals. Subsequent painstaking analysis to pinpoint the source of the elevated risk now
has paid off with the identification of the precise culprit, a gene called RGS17. Researchers conducted
fine mapping of the suspect region of chromosome 6 in members of families in which five or more
individuals over multiple generations were diagnosed with lung cancer. The region contains
approximately 100 genes. Precise computational analysis uncovered similar variants in the DNA
sequence for members of the families with lung cancer. These variants, called single nucleotide
polymorphisms (or SNPS) directed the researchers to the RGS17 gene. The conclusions of this
analysis are that RGS17 plays a major role in lung cancer susceptibility, and individuals who carry the
higher risk version of this gene have an increased susceptibility to lung cancer when exposed to
environmental risk factors, such as smoking. While the research showed that RGS17 is an important
gene for lung cancer susceptibility in families with a high incidence of lung cancer, the researchers did
not see any

Charles Baudelaire Use Of Opium
Opium is widely regarded to be the creative nucleus for a wide breadth of Romantic literary texts and
authors. Charles Baudelaire, Thomas De Quincey, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and William Wordsworth
were all among the number of notable Romantic figures and essayists who utilized opiates as a literary
medium. This is hardly surprising as opium in many ways captured the zeitgeist of both early
romanticism and the nineteenth century as a whole; it was fantastical, serene, all consuming, and
surreal. It would send its user into violent vacillations of highs and lows until they could no longer
differentiate between reverie a term De Quincey himself would often employ to illustrate the
hallucinative states he would find himself in and reality.

Paramount Case Analysis Essay
1. WHY IS PARAMOUNT A TAKEOVER TARGET?
Paramount is a potential merger target to Viacom and QVC for a few key reasons outlined below:
Paramount Viacom:
(1) Synergy creation: The businesses of both companies are famous and highly complementary to each
other.
(2) Cost reduction: Paramount Viacom both have economies of scale and are doing business in a
similar industry.
(3) Addition of enhanced and complementary distribution capabilities, which will significantly
increase revenue.
(4) Better positioning: Will allow Viacom to gain a stronger competitive advantage against its peers.

After making assumptions about various valuation metrics and figures, we were able to value
paramount as a stand alone company using both the APV and WACC methods.
Our base case valuation (APV) was $46.11 per share
Our base case valuation (WACC) was $40.92 per share
Our assumptions and calculations leading up to these valuations are outlined in our exhibits 1 through
5.
We have specified the sources of our assumptions in exhibit 1, with a detailed segment on assumptions
that might require further reasoning.
4. AFTER VALUING PARAMOUNT, COMPARE YOUR VALUATION TO THE MARKET PRICE.
ARE THEY SIMILAR? IF NOT, HOW CAN YOU RECONCILE THEM?
Upon arriving at $46.11 (APV) and $40.92 (WACC) valuations for Paramount, we noticed that these
valuations were at a discount to the market price of $55.50.
Our reconciliation for this undervaluation is that the market is already pricing in a takeover. Some
evidence of this can be demonstrated by the 1.0 beta of paramount. If we look at the 1992 Q1 to

Don Mitchell Analysis
In New Axioms for Reading the Landscape: Paying Attention to Political Economy and Social Justice,
Don Mitchell incorporates old ideas from Peirce F. Lewis s original Axioms for Reading the
Landscape. At the same time, Mitchell includes new ideas into his axioms. In Axiom 1, he explains
that the landscape is not produced through our unwitting autobiography (as Lewis describes it), but as
an act of (social, not individual) will (2007, 34). He also stresses the idea that landscape should be
produced as a commodity. In contrast, Neil Smith explains the main causes behind gentrification.
Smith explains how gentrification happens through a process which he calls rent gap (1979, 545). In
gentrification, the landscape is a commodity because it loses and gains monetary value through
disinvestment and investment. Mitchell highlights in Axiom 1, the importance that social will
(relations) has on the production of a landscape. Social will is the reason why a landscape produces
the things that it does. For instance, when someone buys a house they might take out loans from their
bank, in order to afford it. This results, in the person s house becoming bank property. ... Show more

The Effects Of The Stock Market Crash Of 1929
It is inevitable that a country will have a continuously fluctuating economy; however, this can
potentially be dangerous when economic growth drops precipitously as it did in 1929. Even today,
there is controversy regarding the causal events leading up to the stock market crash of 1929. The
question most debated is which factor was the greatest contributor to causing the crash? Many think
the answer is simple, for example, unemployment. On the contrary, the answer is quite complex
because there were many interconnected causes. When answering this question, it is first crucial to
analyze the causes of the crash and the causes of the depression that followed the crash. Many people

In addition, effective advertising led to more consumer purchases. Consumers were able to purchase
more luxurious items because wages of the urban middle class workers increased. People could afford
mass produced goods like radios, washing machines and cars. This materialistic time period slowly
took a turn for the worst. Various factors began revealing the hidden structural problems of the 1920s.
For one, overproduction became a major problem, as efficiently supplied goods outstripped their
demand. Other problems included income inequality, with only 1% of the population wealthy enough
to invest in stocks. This income gap widened over time; by 1929 the stock market was many times its
value in 1921. Furthermore, easy credit led to growing debt of consumers and companies. Specifically,
people bought stocks on margin while companies took on loans to expand their production. Therefore,
many banks in the U.S grew from small to medium sized, as their loan portfolios increased. The first
sign of trouble in the 1920s was when several rural banks failed, due to farmers failure on agricultural
loans, combined with weak reserve requirements. This developed into a major problem because there
was no lender of last resort addressing the needs of the failing banks. In addition, investors drove up
stock prices even with low earnings per share, in part based on companies unrealistic

The mating for blue ringed octopuses begins when a male meets a female and begins to caress her
with arm. The males then climb on the females back, the female is to allow this happening while the
male starts this process. The hectocotylus is inserted under the females mantle and spermatophores are
let into the female s oviduct. The female then lays between 50 100 eggs and protects them by keeping
them under her tentacle until they hatch about 50 days later into the planktonic paralarvae. The female
then dies as she cannot eat while she guards her eggs. The blue ringed octopus is about the size of a

The Music Of Electronic Dance Music
Tracing as far back as the 1940s when sound pioneers began their own movement known as musique
concrete, sampling, evolved from simple sound collage. Now it has evolved to the act of taking a
portion of one sound recording and reusing it as an instrument or sound recording in a different song
or piece. Today it has become an integral part of many music genres today. Samples often consist of
one part of another song, such as a lyric or rhythm break, and used to create a beat for another song.
The experimental musicians did not get permission from the artists whose work they were using or
from the copyright owner while they were using them to create their own music. It began getting
popular in hip hop when it was just played in local dance parties so they were not obligated to receive
copyright clearance in order to play this music at events. As the 1970s approached, DJs were
experimenting with vinyl by having two turntables and an audio mixer going at the same time and
manipulating them. Leading on into 1980s, electronic dance music was in the making and picking up
on sampling after being influenced by hip hop. It went on to spread to indie rock, contemporary R B,
and industrial music.
The digital sampler was invented after that to enable musicians to record any sound at the touch of a
button, making sampling simpler. Typical sample instruments consist of grand pianos, pipe organs,
violins, cellos, wind and percussion instruments. This can include voices and non traditional

America s Grammar Problem Essay
America s Grammar Problem Growing up we re told repeatedly that, grammar is important, and you
will need it in college. As I sit in these lectures, however, I see that claim hasn t fazed anybody. I sit in
an English class expecting to read these great, well put together papers, and I get the same writing
level I saw my senior year in high school. I should expect this, I mean, no kid is going to magically
learn the rules of writing over the summer. I didn t. It took nine grueling months of an English class
that, quite frankly, was hell on earth to learn most of them. The class was the toughest class I have
ever sat through, and yet, I m blessed. I m in my second semester as a college student, and Sandra
Stebbin s English class has saved me more times than I care to count. It s time for the United States
education system to start taking grammar seriously. This is a huge concern, because our future leaders
can t afford to have writing skills equivalent to a 7th grade middle school kid. I will start with a
journey through a hellacious class focused around grammar. Coming into the WCSCC as a 12th
grader, I was astonished at how little skill I had when it came to grammar. It still boggles my mind that
it took twelve years of school before I met a teacher who really, really cared about how I composed
my sentences. She wanted us to know what adjectives, prepositions, nouns, pronouns, and run on
sentences were. However, she knew we didn t. On the first day of class, she made the

Sling Blade Essay
Sling Blade
Film directed by and screen play by Billy Bob Thornton.
Theme
Sling Blade s main theme is the redemption of Karl s lost childhood. Karl Childer s overly religious
parents believed he was a punishment from God. They severely abused him, treated him like an
animal, and forced him to live in a shed in solitude. Everyone in town picked on him and called him
names. He was seen as a retard or slower than others. He had little to call his own. His only
possessions were a Bible and several books on Christmas and carpentry. Karl was taught the Bible as a
child, but it wasn t really the Bible. The stories they told him were not in the Bible. His parents had

Through a deadly crime, Karl freed his young friend from a life of pain and despair, only to end up
back where he began at the nut house . The choice of right or wrong seemed to make good and evil
equal.
The main point of Sling Blade was to convey the message that sometimes wrong can be right.
Symbolically, killing with the switchblade represents for cutting away the troubles that get in the way.
Sling Blade was a subjective film. It seduces the audience to emphasize with Frank and Karl and think
the way the director wants.
Elements
The first element I found that supported the theme was the script. The actors dialogues shaped the
characters roles. Karl adopted a new dialect. He picked up a backwoods, disturbed, monotone,
punctuated by a throaty um hmmm . Karl s dialogue showed that he spoke in a simple way. He
avoided complicated, fancy language. He spoke like a child, slow and easy, while the others in the
movie indicated more education through their speaking. Karl explained the way he was treated as a
child, his love for Frank, and his fear of Doyle. His moments of silence revealed his reflection, his
caged up behavior, and his childlike manner. Karl s words shaped him as gentle and to the point. Karl
told Frank s mamma she s good for Frank. He let people know their worth. At the end Karl stated, the
world was too big . He

The Concept Of Cultural Erasure, Inequality And Violence
Postcolonialism: The Concept of Cultural Erasure, Inequality and Violence Colonization can be dated
back to 1492 with the Spanish venture led by Columbus. Colonialism is defined as The policy or
practice of acquiring full or partial political control over another country, occupying it with settlers,
and exploiting it economically (Oxford Dictionary). This expedition spread European influence
worldwide, in places such as China, Lebanon, India, and Antigua. European influence is still prevalent
today through the crossing of racial lines and shifting of cultures towards a more civilized way of
living. Colonialism is still prevalent today, in the form of postcolonialism. Postcolonialism can be
defined as America s benefaction to nations worldwide that include dynamic influences in things such
as: government, culture, education and economy. One of the concepts erected from colonialism is
globalization. Since globalization is a direct effect of colonialism, it is no surprise that globalization
influences the same categories as postcolonialism (government, culture, education and economy),
making the two concepts almost synonymous with minimal differences. Globalization is defined as
the integration of economics and communications of nations through increased contact by technology.
Globalization dominates the economic and social side of the field while postcolonialism dwells in the
cultural and educational aspects. This European gift has contributed to global conflicts,

Seeing how affective these projectiles could be, the police in Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong
eventually made a more sophisticated wooden bullet. By the 1970s, the British brought the idea back
to England, where they replaced wood with rubber. Eventually this idea trickled down to many other
countries including the United States. These rubber bullets can be shot from a standard police
handgun. The bullet has a metal shell casing but instead of a metal bullet it is replaced by a black thick
rubber projectile. In riots, the police will attempt to aim for any area below the neck; when the bullet
hits an object it flattens out in order to cause no permanent damage. Rubber bullets travel up to 950
mph, and if hit by one of these rubber bullets a rioter will experience an extreme stinging pain. Some
people describe the pain as being hit with a baseball bat (Norman). Although not intended to be deadly

when it comes down to controlling hostile crowds, rubber bullets are the most effective and instant
way to turn rioters away. These are just a few non lethal weapons used by police in riots all across the

Comparing The Tell-Tale Heart And Silence Of The Lambs
A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti. This is a
quote from the movie Silence of the Lambs (1991) which is one of the greatest horror movies of all
time. This quote in particular is the most chilling of all lines in the movie because it shows how insane
Hannibal Lecter really is, not on an intellectual level but a barbaric one. The Silence of the Lambs and
Edgar Allan Poe had very similar styles in their literary use. In the three stories The Tell Tale Heart ,
The Black Cat , and The Cask of Amontillado Edgar Allan Poe s three main stylistic writing uses are
the use of irony, horror, and covering up horrible deeds done by the main character.
One stylistic technique that Edgar Allen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the story The tell tale Heart the narrator kills an old man, takes apart his body. I pulled up three of
the boards that formed the floor, and put the pieces of the body there. Then I put the boards down
again, carefully, so carefully that no human eye could see that they had been moved. (Poe, The Tell
Tale Heart 4) The reason Edgar decides for the character to put the body in the floor boards because
the narrator wants to hide his horrible deed or sin because he is not fully insane and could not handle
the horrible truth knowing that he killed a man when he returns to insanity. Another reason he could
have covered up the body was to shield it from god because murder is a sin. In the story The Black
Cat the narrator kills his wife and wants to hid her away forever so he would never be able to get
charged with the crime. And in this calculation I was not deceived. By means of a crowbar I easily
dislodged the bricks, and, having carefully deposited the body against the inner wall, I propped it in
that position, while with little trouble, I re laid the whole structure as it originally stood. Having
procured mortar, sand, and hair, with every possible precaution, I prepared a plaster which could not

Fahrenheit 451 Week 1 Lesson Learned
This week in school I learned about mutations. Mutations are the changing of the structure of a gene,
resulting in a variant form that may be transmitted to subsequent generations, Caused by the alteration
of single base units in DNA, or the deletion, insertion, or rearrangement of larger sections of genes or
chromosomes. The most important thing I learned about this week is that if it was not for mutations
we would not be able to survive up to this date. The assignment that I spent the most time on was

The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander Essay
As Elie Wiesel once stated, I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure
suffering and humiliation. We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim.
Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented ( Elie Wiesel Quote ). Michelle Alexander s
book The New Jim Crow, which discusses criminal justice and its role in mass incarceration, promotes
a similar idea regarding silence when America s racial caste system needs to be ended; however,
Alexander promotes times when silence would actually be better for the tormented. The role of silence
and lack of silence in the criminal justice system both contribute to wrongly accused individuals and
growing populations behind bars.

In this case, speaking up should not be feared; those under surveillance need to render the courage to
stand up and tell police officers that they cannot unreasonably search belongings because these actions
lead to unprovoked arrests and loss of fourth amendment rights.
Following through the process of the criminal justice system, after being stopped by police officers,
many individuals remain innocent of committing any crime and walk away from the situation without
further questions asked. However, at this point, silence is not the answer. Alexander notes regarding
the unreasonable searches, Hardly anyone files a complaint, because the last thing most people want to
do after experiencing a frightening and intrusive encounter with the police is show up at the police
station where the officer works and attract more attention to themselves (Alexander 69). Therefore,
these countless searches remain unheard of by many because the innocent are too scared to come
forward and tell their stories. Perhaps if the silence is broken, word of mouth would prevent others
from being unlawfully searched and arrested based on no suspicion. This is not the case though;
nevertheless, it is known that the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) trains police to conduct utterly
unreasonable and discriminatory stops and searches (Alexander 70). The use of such searches and

Overview Of Erikson s Psychosocial Model Of Development
Since the development of Erik Erikson s psychosocial model of development in the 1960s, it has
become one of the most widely used measurements for studying emotional and personality
development across the human lifespan (Dunkel Harbke, 2017). Erikson s model contains eight
developmental stages, beginning in infancy and progressing until old age, and as a person ages they
begin to pass through the stages, with a new psychological crisis arising at each stage (Svetina, 2014).
Whitbourne, Sneed and Sayer (2009) describe how the outcome of each crisis is met with identity
attainment and new personal adaptations (positive outcome), or with an incoherent identity (negative
outcome). Additionally, each new stage allows for the reassessment of previous achievements, and in
some cases, failures (Dunkel Harbke, 2017). Erikson s model is commonly recognised as a
developmental ladder each previous stage lays a foundation before an individual can progress toward
the next stage (Malone, Liu, Valliant, Rentz Waldinger, 2016). It is important to note that whilst they
are referred to as stages , they should be viewed as being on a continuum rather than fixed categories
(Dunkel Harbke, 2017). The current paper will focus on three key stages of Erikson s model industry
vs. inferiority, intimacy vs. isolation, and generativity vs. stagnation. Applying each to selected
characters from the 2003 romantic comedy Christmas film, Love Actually. This film follows the lives
of eight unique couples, each dealing with both their love lives and personal development.
Interestingly, each of the eight stories are loosely interrelated. The film picks up five weeks before
Christmas, playing out a weekly countdown to the annual holiday, concluding with an epilogue that
takes place a month after Christmas. Whilst the film follows eight couples, the current paper will only
focus on three individuals Sam, Sarah, and Billy Mack. Each of whom are in different stages of
Erikson s model. Erikson s theory of psychosocial development is suited to analyse this particular film
as each character, including ones beyond this analysis, are all in different stages and outcomes of the
model. It is this that allows for direct examples of how

Although there are advantages and disadvantages to both a representative government and deliberative
democracy the benefits are largely dependant on the context of policy making and whose interests are
being considered. A representative democracy is one that is currently in place across Australia and, for
the most part, the rest of the world whereby a group of representatives deliberate without unequal
distributions to power on behalf of the nations citizens by denoting their beliefs, attitudes and
perspectives. Recent and ongoing concerns regarding the self interested, bureaucratic nature of
government has lead to increased interest in a more classical deliberative form of democracy

The argument being that representative democracy allows for politically educated and aware elected
representatives, who have the resources and expertise, to make informed decisions. This views the
decision to allow the general public who may lack political awareness or inclination to make rational,

solutions or may marginalise individuals and minorities. Begging other questions in regards to
whether elected officials should utilise their skill and knowledge to lead the public through more

Some advocates of representative democracy acknowledge its limitations, but argue that deliberative
democracy is simple unfeasible in modern conditions. A direct government with high levels of
participation may be possible amongst relatively small communities, because personal communication
can take place between and amongst its citizens, however it is impractical and ineefgctive when it

Marilyn Monroe Theory Essay
Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn Monroe was all that we ever needed, an inspirational woman. Although she died over 50
years ago, she is still as much as a role model to what she was to young women in 1962.
When Marilyn was born
Marilyn was born on the 1st of June 1926. Her mother was Gladys Baker and her father was Martin
Edward Mortenson.
Marilyn s Death
Marilyn died on the 5th of August 1962. It was unsure about how she died. Because of that there are
three theories. The first theory is suicide. The cause of Marilyn s death was listed as a probable
suicide, but they never managed to find a suicide note. The second theory is Accidental drug
interaction. It is said that she had developed an addiction to Nembutal so she chose to let her doctor
wear her off the medication by switching to chloral hydrate but some people think that she secretly
continued taking Nembutal. The third theory is murder. It suggests that an individual or group
murdered her to keep her silence as when she met president John.F.Kennedy and his brother Robert
there were rumours of them both having affairs with Marilyn, so they payed someone to kill her so
they could keep their reputation and their careers.
When you think of Marilyn Monroe you might think of her enticing performance of Diamonds are a
girl s best friend from the movie Gentleman prefer blondes. For many women back then and
especially today she is much more than the dumb blondes she played in most of her movies. She was a
role model.
Her Family Life
The Marilyn we all know and love isn t really Marilyn Monroe. Her real name is Norma Jean
Mortenson. She was the girl who had been helplessly abandoned to a number of foster homes by her
mother and never even knew her father. Norma survived being smothered when she was 2 and when
she was 6 she was nearly raped. Later in her life she lived in an LA orphanage, where she earned 5
cents every month for her work in the kitchen. With that money she was forced to give 1 cent to the
nearby church every week.
Her Relationships
Out of the many relationships Marilyn had, her first marriage was with James Dougherty. She was
married to him from 1942 and then in 1946 they divorced. Her second marriage was with Joe
DiMaggio from 1954 to 1955. Her

New Wave Cinema
In David Cook s, A History of Narrative Film, it is said that the prevailing mode of postwar French
cinema was literary adaption, which caused French films to become increasingly verbal and theatrical.
It was against this tendency identified as the tradition of quality by Francois Truffaut and the other
critics writing in Cashiers du Cinema, that the New Wave reacted in the late 1950 s and 1960 s.

just that by telling us a story about a boy coming of age. As part of the New Wave, for The 400 Blows,
the movie was not only shot on location, but natural lighting was used to give the movie a realistic
film. In addition to this, many producers/directors during this time used mobile cameras (handheld).
These were many characteristics that these artists used in their films. It was real and it was raw and it

Homeless People And The Homeless Essay
Think about what it is like, not knowing where you will end up sleeping tonight, or when your next
meal or shower is going to be, according to the National Alliance to End Homelessness there were
about 600,000 homeless people in America in January of 2015. This paper will hopefully spread
insight on homelessness as a whole. There are many misconceptions about homeless people and many
facts that people do not realize about homeless people. These facts should be brought to attention in
order to help increase the knowledge of what normal everyday individuals can do to help. Every day
we are surrounded by someone who is homeless and we don t even know it. People tend to have a
false interpretation of what a homeless person looks like, the reasons for them becoming homeless,
and even how to help them.
There are many different factors that cause people to become homeless. The leading causes of
homelessness in America are not having enough affordable housing, a lack of income, unemployment,
poverty, and domestic violence. The reason people can become homeless can be the result of one
specific event which occurs, or it could be due to a kind of snowball effect which occurs, where one
small event leads to another and then another, until the end result is not having a house anymore.
While interviewing Katrina Knight, the executive director of Good Shephard Center for the Homeless,
she gave me a good example of this. In a situation where a couple splits up and there is only one

Equally Consider This
In Peter Singer s All Animals are Equal, he presents an argument for equal consideration for members
of nonhuman species, otherwise known as animals. In this paper, I will argue that Singer s argument
does not prove that animals are deserving of equal consideration because it contains a premise that is
not obviously true. The premise I believe to be inadequately supported is the premise that there is no
property that all human sentient creatures have that not all sentient creatures have that would explain
why the interests of human sentient creatures ought to be given equal consideration even though it is
not true that the interests of all sentient creatures ought to be given equal consideration.
II.
In his argument, Singer states his thesis as the following: We should extend to other species the basic
principle of equality that most of us recognize should be extended to all members of our own species
(Singer 171). He goes on to explain that by the basic principle of equality he is referring to equality of
consideration (172). Understanding that equality of consideration for different beings may potentially
lead to different treatment and different rights amongst them, his argument remains uncompromised
based on the fact that equality of consideration from one group to another does not imply that we must
treat both groups in exactly the same way, or grant exactly the same rights to both groups (172). His
argument is not for all sentient creatures to be endowed with

The Three Types Of Carilage In The Human Body
There are three types of cartilages which are the hyaline cartilage, elastic cartilage, and fibrocartilage.
The hyaline cartilage is the most abundant cartilage in the human body that provides a firm support
with pliability. Examples of the hyaline cartilage are the articular, costal, respiratory, and nasal
cartilage. The elastic cartilage is a cartilage that is more flexible than the hyaline cartilage. Examples
of the elastics cartilage are external ear and epiglottis. The fibrocartilage is a cartilage that is highly

  • 2. Coyotes Vs Dogs Coyotes and dogs have the same genus which is Canis but their species are different. Since coyotes have the same genus as dogs they have many of the same traits. A similarity is that they are about the same size. From about two weeks old till the end of a coyotes life they will usually live alone unless they are in a pack. Coyotes are predators of farmers livestock and because of that farmers will hunt the coyotes. In order to understand the significance of coyotes, one must understand their dog like characteristics, the smart way of reproduction and parenting, and the challenges of their survival. To learn about coyotes, one must know its characteristics. Some of the characteristics that are important to know is that they are a least concerned animal because of their adaptability. On my latest research of obtaining a search warrant you will notice that in many cases because a search warrant grants law enforcement officers the right to search parts of personal space that are not normally open to public view, the US Constitution and all state constitutions require probable cause or a fair amount of certainty that a search is related to a crime or criminal investigation before a judge may issue a warrant. Indeed, a search warrant for one item cannot be used for a broader search of another item not stated in the warrant. In completing a search warrant, you need to show that based on the circumstances it s reasonable to believe that a search will produce useful information in solving a crime. However, Lincoln has a far different opinion than Calhoun, arguing that within the Union, the people, not the states, are the sovereign body, founded on the principle of majority rule. Furthermore, in Lincoln s opinion, if you have a government based on majority rule, secession cannot possibly be considered legal or constitutional. While Calhoun fears majority rule will lead to tyranny and the infringement of the minority s liberty, Lincoln believes it is the foundation of our government and protects majority will from suppression by a smaller party. Discussing this point further, Lincoln writes, Unanimity is impossible; the rule of the minority, as a permanent arrangement, is wholly inadmissible; so that, rejecting the ... Ultimately, while Calhoun argues that majority rule leads to majority tyranny, Lincoln claims that secession allows tyranny of the minority by allowing a small group of people to undermine the entire government. Furthermore, because government is based on majority rule, secession violates both the Union and Constitution. As Lincoln notes, if all the States, save one, should assert the power to drive that one out of the Union, it is presumed the whole class of seceding politicians would at once deny the power, and denounce the act as the greatest outrage against State rights (Lincoln 252). Lincoln points out the hypocrisy in Calhoun s argument, claiming that if the roles were reversed and the majority was trying to drive out the minority, advocates of secession would be outraged. • 7. A Short Note On Chronic And Chronic Illness Ms. Jones has a both acute and chronic illness which makes her situation more complex. The acute conditions have a great potential to be reversed; she has a critical hemoglobin (Hgb) level of 6.4 g/dl, a major infection and a left gangrenous extremity that requires emergent care. Treatment of the acute condition may be complicated by her chronic condition of diabetes. Immediate care is required to avoid the spread of the infection and a further decline in her Hgb level which could result in a fatality. Stabilization of her Hgb level and starting intravenous antibiotic therapy is necessary to avoid harm; decreasing her chance of cardiac arrest and systemic infection which would increase the likelihood of success in her case. This scenario does not mention her blood glucose (BG) level but another way harm can be avoided is by assuring her BG level is within an acceptable range, as well. Therefore, admitting her to a medical surgical unit to stabilize her Hgb and BG may be necessary prior to surgery. Although her anemia could be a result of her infection the practitioner should make an effort to determine the cause of her low Hgb levels to avoid further complications and develop future treatment plans. However, medical care would not be indicated, if Ms. Jones continues to refuse blood transfusions. Therefore, more of a palliative or hospice care path may be indicated versus medical and surgical acute care. According to our text, Ms. Jones has not had a mini mental ... Negative Impact of Whaling in Japan Biodiversity often appears as an under the radar issue that is put on the backburner to other environmental problems such as: climate change, ocean acidification, or ozone depletion. When in reality, it should really be a frontrunner as it explicitly involves all living things that dwell within our shared biosphere. While the human population did not really start making waves to remedy the endangerment or extinction of plants and animals until the 1970s with laws that included, the Marine Mammal Protection Act and the Endangered Species Act; we have proved that our part in biodiversity is crucial now that we live in the anthropogenic age. A hot and debated topic on the subject of biodiversity arose with the International Whaling Commission (IWC), an international body that is set on goals to preserve whale stocks and regulate whaling as to help various species recover from near endangerment. Most all practices of hunting whales were banned along the globe but, exceptions were made in cases such as Japan; for alleged scientific purposes. The focus issues of this paper will stem from the controversy involving whaling, specifically in Japan, because while they justify their reasons for continued whale hunting, they still walk a fine line in the eyes of anti whalers and whale watchers alike. First of all, Brezhnev, a hard nosed communist, cared a lot about communist countries because the Soviet Union had the right to intervene if communism was threatened in other communist state. On the other hand, Gorbachev had no intention in communist countries. A foreign policy under Gorbachev was not very strong. However, the economy in the Soviet Union under both Brezhnev and Gorbachev was bad. It tripled the national debt in US and the cost of maintaining satellite states and an enormous military budget under communism were too high that they would not afford it. Subsequent painstaking analysis to pinpoint the source of the elevated risk now has paid off with the identification of the precise culprit, a gene called RGS17. Researchers conducted fine mapping of the suspect region of chromosome 6 in members of families in which five or more individuals over multiple generations were diagnosed with lung cancer. The region contains approximately 100 genes. Precise computational analysis uncovered similar variants in the DNA sequence for members of the families with lung cancer. These variants, called single nucleotide polymorphisms (or SNPS) directed the researchers to the RGS17 gene. The conclusions of this analysis are that RGS17 plays a major role in lung cancer susceptibility, and individuals who carry the higher risk version of this gene have an increased susceptibility to lung cancer when exposed to environmental risk factors, such as smoking. Lewis s original Axioms for Reading the Landscape. At the same time, Mitchell includes new ideas into his axioms. In Axiom 1, he explains that the landscape is not produced through our unwitting autobiography (as Lewis describes it), but as an act of (social, not individual) will (2007, 34). He also stresses the idea that landscape should be produced as a commodity. In contrast, Neil Smith explains the main causes behind gentrification. Smith explains how gentrification happens through a process which he calls rent gap (1979, 545). In gentrification, the landscape is a commodity because it loses and gains monetary value through disinvestment and investment. Mitchell highlights in Axiom 1, the importance that social will (relations) has on the production of a landscape. Social will is the reason why a landscape produces the things that it does. This materialistic time period slowly took a turn for the worst. Various factors began revealing the hidden structural problems of the 1920s. For one, overproduction became a major problem, as efficiently supplied goods outstripped their demand. Other problems included income inequality, with only 1% of the population wealthy enough to invest in stocks. This income gap widened over time; by 1929 the stock market was many times its value in 1921. Furthermore, easy credit led to growing debt of consumers and companies. Specifically, people bought stocks on margin while companies took on loans to expand their production. Therefore, many banks in the U.S grew from small to medium sized, as their loan portfolios increased. The first sign of trouble in the 1920s was when several rural banks failed, due to farmers failure on agricultural loans, combined with weak reserve requirements. Today it has become an integral part of many music genres today. Samples often consist of one part of another song, such as a lyric or rhythm break, and used to create a beat for another song. The experimental musicians did not get permission from the artists whose work they were using or from the copyright owner while they were using them to create their own music. It began getting popular in hip hop when it was just played in local dance parties so they were not obligated to receive copyright clearance in order to play this music at events. As the 1970s approached, DJs were experimenting with vinyl by having two turntables and an audio mixer going at the same time and manipulating them. Leading on into 1980s, electronic dance music was in the making and picking up on sampling after being influenced by hip hop. It went on to spread to indie rock, contemporary R B, and industrial music. The digital sampler was invented after that to enable musicians to record any sound at the touch of a button, making sampling simpler. Typical sample instruments consist of grand pianos, pipe organs, violins, cellos, wind and percussion instruments. This can include voices and non traditional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. America s Grammar Problem Essay America s Grammar Problem Growing up we re told repeatedly that, grammar is important, and you will need it in college. As I sit in these lectures, however, I see that claim hasn t fazed anybody. I sit in an English class expecting to read these great, well put together papers, and I get the same writing level I saw my senior year in high school. I should expect this, I mean, no kid is going to magically learn the rules of writing over the summer. I didn t. It took nine grueling months of an English class that, quite frankly, was hell on earth to learn most of them. The class was the toughest class I have ever sat through, and yet, I m blessed. I m in my second semester as a college student, and Sandra Stebbin s English class has saved me more times than I care to count. It s time for the United States education system to start taking grammar seriously. This is a huge concern, because our future leaders can t afford to have writing skills equivalent to a 7th grade middle school kid. I will start with a journey through a hellacious class focused around grammar. Coming into the WCSCC as a 12th grader, I was astonished at how little skill I had when it came to grammar. It still boggles my mind that it took twelve years of school before I met a teacher who really, really cared about how I composed my sentences. She wanted us to know what adjectives, prepositions, nouns, pronouns, and run on sentences were. However, she knew we didn t. On the first day of class, she made the ... Karl Childer s overly religious parents believed he was a punishment from God. They severely abused him, treated him like an animal, and forced him to live in a shed in solitude. Everyone in town picked on him and called him names. He was seen as a retard or slower than others. He had little to call his own. His only possessions were a Bible and several books on Christmas and carpentry. Karl was taught the Bible as a child, but it wasn t really the Bible. The stories they told him were not in the Bible. Through a deadly crime, Karl freed his young friend from a life of pain and despair, only to end up back where he began at the nut house . The choice of right or wrong seemed to make good and evil equal. The main point of Sling Blade was to convey the message that sometimes wrong can be right. Symbolically, killing with the switchblade represents for cutting away the troubles that get in the way. Sling Blade was a subjective film. It seduces the audience to emphasize with Frank and Karl and think the way the director wants. Elements The first element I found that supported the theme was the script. The actors dialogues shaped the characters roles. Karl adopted a new dialect. He picked up a backwoods, disturbed, monotone, punctuated by a throaty um hmmm . Karl s dialogue showed that he spoke in a simple way. He avoided complicated, fancy language. He spoke like a child, slow and easy, while the others in the movie indicated more education through their speaking. Karl explained the way he was treated as a child, his love for Frank, and his fear of Doyle. His moments of silence revealed his reflection, his caged up behavior, and his childlike manner. Karl s words shaped him as gentle and to the point. Karl told Frank s mamma she s good for Frank. He let people know their worth. At the end Karl stated, the world was too big . He ... The Concept Of Cultural Erasure, Inequality And Violence Postcolonialism: The Concept of Cultural Erasure, Inequality and Violence Colonization can be dated back to 1492 with the Spanish venture led by Columbus. Colonialism is defined as The policy or practice of acquiring full or partial political control over another country, occupying it with settlers, and exploiting it economically (Oxford Dictionary). This expedition spread European influence worldwide, in places such as China, Lebanon, India, and Antigua. European influence is still prevalent today through the crossing of racial lines and shifting of cultures towards a more civilized way of living. Colonialism is still prevalent today, in the form of postcolonialism. Postcolonialism can be defined as America s benefaction to nations worldwide that include dynamic influences in things such as: government, culture, education and economy. One of the concepts erected from colonialism is globalization. Since globalization is a direct effect of colonialism, it is no surprise that globalization influences the same categories as postcolonialism (government, culture, education and economy), making the two concepts almost synonymous with minimal differences. Globalization is defined as the integration of economics and communications of nations through increased contact by technology. Seeing how affective these projectiles could be, the police in Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong eventually made a more sophisticated wooden bullet. By the 1970s, the British brought the idea back to England, where they replaced wood with rubber. Eventually this idea trickled down to many other countries including the United States. These rubber bullets can be shot from a standard police handgun. The bullet has a metal shell casing but instead of a metal bullet it is replaced by a black thick rubber projectile. In riots, the police will attempt to aim for any area below the neck; when the bullet hits an object it flattens out in order to cause no permanent damage. Rubber bullets travel up to 950 mph, and if hit by one of these rubber bullets a rioter will experience an extreme stinging pain. This is a quote from the movie Silence of the Lambs (1991) which is one of the greatest horror movies of all time. This quote in particular is the most chilling of all lines in the movie because it shows how insane Hannibal Lecter really is, not on an intellectual level but a barbaric one. The Silence of the Lambs and Edgar Allan Poe had very similar styles in their literary use. In the three stories The Tell Tale Heart , The Black Cat , and The Cask of Amontillado Edgar Allan Poe s three main stylistic writing uses are the use of irony, horror, and covering up horrible deeds done by the main character. I pulled up three of the boards that formed the floor, and put the pieces of the body there. Then I put the boards down again, carefully, so carefully that no human eye could see that they had been moved. (Poe, The Tell Tale Heart 4) The reason Edgar decides for the character to put the body in the floor boards because the narrator wants to hide his horrible deed or sin because he is not fully insane and could not handle the horrible truth knowing that he killed a man when he returns to insanity. Another reason he could have covered up the body was to shield it from god because murder is a sin. In the story The Black Cat the narrator kills his wife and wants to hid her away forever so he would never be able to get charged with the crime. And in this calculation I was not deceived. By means of a crowbar I easily dislodged the bricks, and, having carefully deposited the body against the inner wall, I propped it in that position, while with little trouble, I re laid the whole structure as it originally stood. Michelle Alexander s book The New Jim Crow, which discusses criminal justice and its role in mass incarceration, promotes a similar idea regarding silence when America s racial caste system needs to be ended; however, Alexander promotes times when silence would actually be better for the tormented. However, at this point, silence is not the answer. Therefore, these countless searches remain unheard of by many because the innocent are too scared to come forward and tell their stories. • 35. Overview Of Erikson s Psychosocial Model Of Development Since the development of Erik Erikson s psychosocial model of development in the 1960s, it has become one of the most widely used measurements for studying emotional and personality development across the human lifespan (Dunkel Harbke, 2017). Erikson s model contains eight developmental stages, beginning in infancy and progressing until old age, and as a person ages they begin to pass through the stages, with a new psychological crisis arising at each stage (Svetina, 2014). Whitbourne, Sneed and Sayer (2009) describe how the outcome of each crisis is met with identity attainment and new personal adaptations (positive outcome), or with an incoherent identity (negative outcome). Additionally, each new stage allows for the reassessment of previous achievements, and in some cases, failures (Dunkel Harbke, 2017). Erikson s model is commonly recognised as a developmental ladder each previous stage lays a foundation before an individual can progress toward the next stage (Malone, Liu, Valliant, Rentz Waldinger, 2016). It is important to note that whilst they are referred to as stages , they should be viewed as being on a continuum rather than fixed categories (Dunkel Harbke, 2017). The current paper will focus on three key stages of Erikson s model industry vs. inferiority, intimacy vs. isolation, and generativity vs. stagnation. Applying each to selected characters from the 2003 romantic comedy Christmas film, Love Actually. This film follows the lives of eight unique couples, each dealing with both their love lives and personal development. Interestingly, each of the eight stories are loosely interrelated. The film picks up five weeks before Christmas, playing out a weekly countdown to the annual holiday, concluding with an epilogue that takes place a month after Christmas. Whilst the film follows eight couples, the current paper will only focus on three individuals Sam, Sarah, and Billy Mack. Each of whom are in different stages of Erikson s model. Erikson s theory of psychosocial development is suited to analyse this particular film as each character, including ones beyond this analysis, are all in different stages and outcomes of the model. It is this that allows for direct examples of how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although she died over 50 years ago, she is still as much as a role model to what she was to young women in 1962. When Marilyn was born Marilyn was born on the 1st of June 1926. Her mother was Gladys Baker and her father was Martin Edward Mortenson. Marilyn s Death Marilyn died on the 5th of August 1962. It was unsure about how she died. Because of that there are three theories. The first theory is suicide. The cause of Marilyn s death was listed as a probable suicide, but they never managed to find a suicide note. The second theory is Accidental drug interaction. It is said that she had developed an addiction to Nembutal so she chose to let her doctor wear her off the medication by switching to chloral hydrate but some people think that she secretly continued taking Nembutal. The third theory is murder. It suggests that an individual or group murdered her to keep her silence as when she met president John.F.Kennedy and his brother Robert there were rumours of them both having affairs with Marilyn, so they payed someone to kill her so they could keep their reputation and their careers. When you think of Marilyn Monroe you might think of her enticing performance of Diamonds are a girl s best friend from the movie Gentleman prefer blondes. For many women back then and especially today she is much more than the dumb blondes she played in most of her movies. She was a role model. These facts should be brought to attention in order to help increase the knowledge of what normal everyday individuals can do to help. In this paper, I will argue that Singer s argument does not prove that animals are deserving of equal consideration because it contains a premise that is not obviously true. The premise I believe to be inadequately supported is the premise that there is no property that all human sentient creatures have that not all sentient creatures have that would explain why the interests of human sentient creatures ought to be given equal consideration even though it is not true that the interests of all sentient creatures ought to be given equal consideration. II. In his argument, Singer states his thesis as the following: We should extend to other species the basic principle of equality that most of us recognize should be extended to all members of our own species (Singer 171). He goes on to explain that by the basic principle of equality he is referring to equality of consideration (172). Understanding that equality of consideration for different beings may potentially lead to different treatment and different rights amongst them, his argument remains uncompromised based on the fact that equality of consideration from one group to another does not imply that we must treat both groups in exactly the same way, or grant exactly the same rights to both groups (172).
