Photosynthesis and respiration are closely related processes. Photosynthesis produces energy through chloroplasts in plants, while respiration uses this energy in mitochondria of cells. There are two types of respiration - aerobic respiration requires oxygen and occurs in mitochondria, while anaerobic respiration does not require oxygen and includes lactic acid fermentation in muscles and alcohol fermentation in rising bread.
