Activity Based Costing – Glaser Health Products Case
Introduction
Glaser Health Products manufactures medical items for the health care industry. Production
involves machining, assembly and painting. Finished units are then packed and shipped. The
financial controller is interested to introduce an activity based costing (ABC) system to allocate (or
distribute) indirect costs to products. Indirect costs, as distinct from direct costs, cannot be
unambiguously linked to specific products. The controller would like to calculate product costs
based on ABC for planning and control, not inventory valuation.
Under an ABC system, the allocation of costs to products is achieved through at least four
analytical steps. Firstly, costs are grouped into activity levels. Secondly, costdrivers are ... Show

Cost Drivers by Activity Level by Division
Cost drivers can be identified for each activity or cost category based on observation, discussions
with management, simulations and statistical studies. The key is to determine the behavior of
indirect costs with respect to activity or resource usage in each activity center (Leslie, 2009). These
efforts have identified the eight cost drivers shown in Table 3.
Direct labor assembly costs are, by their nature, directly traceable to individual products. Therefore
the relevant cost driver for this cost is the number of Direct Assembly Labor Hours. The other 21
cost categories are indirect costs.
At the unit activity level, electricity assembly costs are likely to vary with Direct Labor Hours,
Assembly. Similarly, the three machining costs grouped at the unit activity level are likely to vary
with by the number of Direct Labor Hours, Machining.
Secondly, at the batch activity level, paint cost is likely to vary mainly with the Number of Batches
Processed. Painting activity is the only batch activity at Glaser.
Thirdly, at the product activity level, the two Operations costs are likely to vary mainly with the
Number of Units Produced and the three Sales costs are also likely to vary mainly with the
Number of Units Produced.
Finally, at the facility level, the five Operations costs are likely to vary mainly with the

Cells And Organistics Of Plastic Stherent Stromal Cell...
The majority of studies and clinical trials have used plastic adherent stromal cell populations
expanded in culture. So the starting cell population is heterogeneous comprising progenitors and
committed fibroblasts that are less efficacious. By immunoselecting clonogenic MSCs with
specific surface markers by flow cytometry or magnetic bead sorting, a homogeneous population
of starting cells can be obtained (Lv et al., 2014). As mentioned in section 1.1.1. MSCs are a rare
population of cells in tissues, accounting for 1 4% of cells which decrease with increasing age
(Stolzing et al., 2008). Due to their rarity, MSCs require extensive culture in vitro to generate
sufficient numbers for clinical transplantation especially for use in adult... Show more content on

Studies have shown that the survival rate was significantly less in patients treated with late
passage MSCs compared to early passage MSCs (von Bahr et al., 2012). Heterogeneity and
senescence decrease efficiency of culture expanded MSCs with reduced and/or variable clinical
outcome as has been the experience to date with bmMSCs (von Bahr et al., 2012, Prockop et al.,
2014).
Uncultured transgenic MSCs injected into irradiated mice showed 55 65% recovery from bone
marrow which decreased to 10% and 0% after only 24 hours and 48 hours of culture respectively,
showing both the homing capacity of bmMSCs and the shortness of their survival in vivo on
intravenous infusion (Rombouts and Ploemacher, 2003). The authors also suggested that cell cycle
stage of bmMSCs at the time of transplantation may be a factor influencing survival, whereby the
primary quiescent MSCs in G0 phase of cell cycle survive longer, while the cultured cells are G1
or later stage of the cells cycle have limited survival (Rombouts and Ploemacher, 2003). The
homing ability of MSCs decreases significantly if they have been pre cultured (Sohni and Verfaillie,
2013). This shows that culture conditions likely modified the homing receptors for chemokines.
The MSC markers CD73, CD90 and CD105 appear to be expressed consistently regardless of the
culture environment, passage stage or the functional ability of MSCs (Maumus et al., 2011, Lo
Surdo et al.,

Clinician Psychodynamic Theory Paper
Introduction Theories inform many activities that social workers use within their practice. It
provides a lens that allows the clinician to understand the client s needs in a different way,
depending on what theory is being acknowledged. This paper explores three theories, and how they
informed projects performed within the Department of Family Services. Additionally, the strengths
and limitations of each theoryare also documented. While no theory fits in to every situation within
the social work practice, each has a concept or quality that can improve overall practice and
understanding of the client s being served.
Conflict Theory Description Conflict emerges in almost every environment, and is a recurring
theme for the work clinicians ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The theory is considered revolutionary due to it s life span model of human development that
included eight psychosocial stages. He purposed that in each stage there is a conflict or crisis that
the individual must successfully settle to continue with their development. Erikson also believed
that external and internal forces had significant contributions to how successful an individual s
development would be (Sokol, 2009). The theory is broad and assists in the understanding of
development across the lifespan. Additionally, it takes in to consideration both social and biological
factors. The theory has some criticism as well. Often labeled as vague, some feel the theory is not
specific enough and is difficult to test. Furthermore, other perspectives are that the theory needs to
elaborate on how culture impacts the developmental stages (Zhang,

Essay on Sexual Exploitation of Women in the Media
Sexual Exploitation of Women in the Media
Women are sexually exploited in the media. In today s society if people watch television
programs such as Chingy featuring Snoop Ludacris Holidae; Charlie s Angels; the Z100
commercial with Britney Spears; or Baywatch they will see that the feminine image is presented
differently than the masculine. In these programs men are typically placed in sexual situations
fully clothed, while women are presented in provocative clothing or less. The camera will
frequently zoom in on body parts to focus on the woman s buttocks, midriff, and legs. Society is
still dominated by men who control what people see. As a result women are increasingly

In 1998, $1billion was spent online on adult content, 69 percent of the total Internet content sales.
In most commercial advertisements on television, women show more skin than men. Commercials
use women to sell sex because it attracts more attention than men showing their bodies. For
instance, Britney Spears, a singer whom many teenagers admire, appeared in a music commercial
for Z100, the number one radio station in New York. Z100 promotes commercially hot music in
modes such as pop, rock, and R B. In Z100 s new commercial, Britney Spears is wearing a beige
outfit consisting of a tight tube top and small shorts that accent her chest and buttocks. After
talking for a moment, she starts dancing with her back facing the camera. Viewers are visually
drawn to the shape of her body. As spokesperson for Z100, Britney Spears is being used as a
marketing tool to attract men and increase ratings. Z100 could have had a popular male in its
commercial. Instead the company s executives chose a popular woman known for her hourglass
figure because men prefer to look at young, shapely, nubile women.
Television shows concentrate more and more on physical imagery showing women and their
bodies exposed in an effort to increase ratings. The show Baywatch is about lifeguards, both men
and women, working on the beach, but the females wear tight and particularly revealing bikinis.
When the show first came out, it was taken seriously as

My Native Costume By Gentileschi
Once, there was a woman who claimed that her identity is like the spirit of Caesar. She was raped
when she was nineteen, and public condemned her of losing her virtue, even though virtue is not a
woman s consumable good that can be achieved by purity or lost by accident. This reaction is
similar to that of school teacher in the poem of MartГn Espada, My Native Costume. In the poem,
the teacher asks the writer to wear traditional costume for the students even though the writer
defines himself as a lawyer. She is full of prejudice that Puerto Rican people will always wear
traditional clothes, but she rather thinks that she is doing a good job for her students while saying
the children want to see a native costume (Espada). Probably the public... Show more content on

Judith Slaying Holofernes is one of her masterpieces that has been acknowledged as a proper piece
to understand the main characteristics of her painting style. Carol Strickland, an American art
historian, explains that this painting shows how Gentileschi depicted her subject into the style of
Caravaggio, who was her father s teacher and famous for dramatic lightning (Strickland, 47). Based
on these facts, some critics conjecture that Gentileschi may just have borrowed the dramatic story
from the Book of Judith to express her technique that resembled that of Caravaggio. They argue that
it is unreasonable and too subjective to relate Judith Slaying Holofernes with the identity of
Gentileschi. Identity of Gentileschi, however, cannot be separated with the story of Judith and the
painting Judith Slaying Holofernes because Gentileschi s identity severely resembles that of Judith.
Their struggle, success leaded by their capacity, and destruction of the gender stereotypes are main
common aspects that Judith and Gentileschi share. These qualities further prove how Artemisia
Gentileschi was an ideal feminist who asserted her freedom inside an unfair

Much Ado About Nothing
A Feminist Perspective of Hero in Much Ado About Nothing
Unlike the title of this piece suggests, Hero did not undergo her transformation in Much Ado About
Nothing through magic. Rather, Hero was a victim of the double standards and illogical fears that
the men of Shakespeare s plays commonly held. The following quote sums it up quite well:
In the plays female sexuality is not expressed variously through courtship, pregnancy, childbearing,
and remarriage, as it is in the period. Instead it is narrowly defined and contained by the
conventions of Petrarchan love and cuckoldry. The first idealizes women as a catalyst to male
virtue, insisting on their absolute purity. The second fears and mistrusts them for their ... Show more

Hero s beauty is all he seems to be concerned about since he makes no mention of her other possible
virtues and attributes.
This banter between the men is consistent with the notion that all Shakespeare men want to marry a
pure, socially benefiting woman and avoid cuckoldry. Claudio also does not seem to know much
about Hero, thus explaining why he is asking Benedick and Don Pedro about her. He not only
wants to know that his budding feelings are justified, but he wants to make sure that his choice of
lady is indeed worthy of his honor. Even if Hero is fair, if she will not compliment Claudio s social
status, he will not marry her (Ranald 74).
Hero does not get a chance to mull over the idea of Claudio as a husband. Even the audience
knows little about her going into the now famous shaming scene. Details about Hero s virtues and
personality are purposely left out, partially to satisfy the dominant male perspective in the play,
but also to give more clout to the heinous claim that Claudio makes during the wedding. The
reactions of Hero s father and others indicate that a woman s virtues are only as good as a man says
they are.
How ironic that Claudio s quick decision to shame Hero at the alter shows his extreme lack of
honor and virtue. Rather than stand by his fiancГ©e s side, he chooses to believe a rumor and
instantly disowns her.

In an excerpt from the book Amazing Grace:The Lives of Children and the Conscience of a

and diseased cities in the west, which creates terrible living conditions. Kozol walks around the

making things up, like how the incinerator burns bodies. After he walks around the city, Kozol talks
with Cliffie s motherin St. Ann s Church about the issues and the better things in the community.

Attachment Styles Influence Relational Patterns Between A...
Attachment styles influence relational patterns between a married couple and their children. These
attachment relational patterns known as anxious, avoidant, and secure base styles are a product of
the interactions experienced in early childhood with their caregivers. It affects people s
intercommunication with others all through their life span. Individuals attachment style involves a
systematic pattern of relational assumptions, emotions, and behavior that develop from the
subjective constructs definitive of attachment experiences throughout their lives. Negative
relational patterns increase the likelihood of marital violence in the home. When experiencing
stress related life issues, conflicts may arise due to substandard communication skills leading to
physical violence, aggressiveness, resulting in harsh spousal disputes. A positive upswing in marital
and family harmony occurs when healthy communication skills develop along with secure based
attachment characteristics, such as, humility, gratitude, and forgiveness of self and others. These
characteristics provide coping mechanisms that establish a positive self identity and healthy social
interaction with others. As the anxious and avoidant relational styles exercise these positive
characteristics, in time, they develop a positive view of self and others while learning to work
through life stressors, which benefit the marriage and family. Introduction Relationships between

Quentin Tarantino s Inglorious Bastards
Quentin Tarantino s 2009 film Inglourious Bastards entails a Jewish revenge fantasy that is told
through a counterfactual history of events in World War II. However, this story follows a

audiences now question the very ideas and arguments that are often associated with World War II.
We believe that Inglourious Basterdsis a Jewish revenge fantasy that forces us to rethink our

The Jew Hunter is very polite yet vicious and frightening and displays this again through a silent
brutal strangling of one of the spies. These scenes depict Jewish and supporters revolt against
Hitler s reign and the war in itself it was before American involvement.
Inglourious Basterds argues that the American lens of Jews in World War II is inaccurate by
contrasting the traditional American lens with a strong Jewish lens through parallel plots in the
story. In Inglourious Basterds, we mentioned the opening scene which starts with the Jew
Hunter in complete control and using fear tactics to make a French farmer give up the Jews he
is harboring. This scene shows the Jew Hunter in full control of the situation with all power
resting solely in his hands. The Jewish family being harbored is completely helpless as they hide
under the floorboards. The Jews in this scene are in line with what the American perspective of
Jews in World War II, helpless and at the mercy of the Nazis. However the Basterds violently
contradict the American lens of Jew s role in World War II history. This is done so in the way
the film is laid out with alternating five different chapters, which alternate between Jews having
power and lacking power. The Basterds reverse the power structure and become the ones
inflicting fear. They begin to not only kill Nazis they make the Nazis fear Jews. This can be seen

There are so many books written by well known professors and writers that are filled with
information about many things we do not know. I choose to read The Visual Display of
Quantitative Information by Edward Tufte because I found it really interesting. The first factor
that makes me want to read this book was the history behind writing this book. The writer stated
in introduction part that the primary focus of the book was to teach statistics of few journalists
who were interested in learning Economic concepts in the year of 1975 A.D which gave me a
general idea that the book was written for novices, which means that the information provided
will be clear, understandable and it will contain a lots of examples to make it clear. Being a
finance major, I had and will have situations where I have to use visual display of data many
times, but I never got to go back and check the history how they were originated, how the use of
them transformed during the era of timeand how the development of the visual display has
impacted in the modern business world. This book provided me a chance, which no other books I
have read, to see the significance of visual data, which was mostly introduced and developed from
1750 1800.
The book was also really helpful in clarifying the terms and applications we studied in the
classroom. Since I took a 8 week class, we could only cover so much and this book helped me to

The first important situation to consider is that Francos s dictatorship was based on the beliefs of

the role of women in society. Fray Luis de LeГіn in 1583 based it in some writings such as La

The Roles Of The Role Of Women In The Iliad
Throughout history, the role of women in the society has been a topic of debate. Men have
traditionally been viewed as superior since the beginning of time. As a war poem, the Iliad too
highlights the battles and decisions of men. The position of women in the Iliad can be analyzed in
two parts: the mortal sphere and the immortal sphere. Mortal women are less prominent than the
mortal men, who are either treated as the property of men (for example Chryseis and Briseis) or are
typecast as interlocutors and stereotyped mothers like Thetis and Queen Hecuba. However, these
women are not completely without power or persuasive influence, as they affect the events off the
battlefield. In the other sphere, Goddesses like Athena and Hera, seem to be more powerful and
influential than their male counterparts.
One of the primary purposes of the mortal women in the Iliad is to serve as objects of prize or
bounty to the war heroes. This is shown from the beginning with the priest Chryses brining a
priceless ransom to win his daughter, Chryseis, back from king Agamemnon. Agamemnon,
however, firmly refuses and says:
The girl I won t give up the girl. Long before that, old age will overtake her in my house, in Argos,

Murder Of Emmett Till Thesis
The Murder of Emmett Till is an incredible documentary about the harsh reality of life for
African Americans in the U.S. in the 1950 s. The documentary does an amazing job of shedding
light onto this terrible period of American history by showing it s audience a very graphic
example of this time period s prejudice against African America. The Murder of Emmett Till
focuses on a case in 1955 in which a 14 year old African American boy was ruthlessly murdered for
supposedly flirting with a white woman. The intention of this magnificent documentary are made

Many of the interviews included in the film are those of friends, family, and witnesses. The most
impacting of those interviews were those that included friends and family. The film reached out
to Till s mother and was able to interview and she really tied the documentary together, often she
would speak about her deceased son and how his death impacted her and the rest of the African
American community. Moses Wright who was there when Bryant kidnapped Emmet was also
very impactful, he tried to convince the kidnappers to give the boy a whipping, instead of doing
the unthinkable, of course, they didn t listen and took the boy. Many other friends and family of
Till were interviewed as well, many of which described Till and his personality. This allowed the
audience to build an image of Emmet Till, which also something many documentaries fail to do.
An ordinary documentary would give the audience cold hard facts about the case, The Murder of
Emmet Till, however; builds upon emotion by building up these people like an author would build
a character. The film uses the audience s emotions to emphasize the importance and tragedy of this
event, the use of emotion also encourages the audience to care more about what happened. Instead
of relying on pure facts, which often only appeal to only some people, they use emotion which
appeals to all and they, of course, include facts to support their overall

Psychology And Cognitive Science, Confirmation Bias ( Or...
In psychology and cognitive science, confirmation bias (or confirmatory bias) is a tendency to
search for or interpret information in a way that confirms one s preconceptions, leading to statistical
errors. It is a type of cognitive bias and represents an error of inductive inference toward
confirmation of the hypothesis under study.
Confirmation bias is a phenomenon wherein decision makers have been shown to actively seek out
and assign more weight to evidence that confirms their hypothesis, and ignore or underweigh
evidence that could disconfirm their hypothesis.
As such, it can be thought of as a form of selection bias in collecting evidence.
An individual might even seek out proof that further backs up this belief, while discounting
examples that do not support this idea.
Unlike other similar concepts such overconfidence bias or anchoring, confirmation biases impact
how people gather information, but they also influence how people interpret and recall
information. For example, people who support or oppose a particular issue will not only seek
information that supports their beliefs, they will also interpret news stories in a way that upholds
their existing ideas and remember things in a way that also reinforces these attitudes.
Therefore, this concept is important because without seeking for objective facts, interpreting
information in a way that only supports one s existing beliefs, and only remembering details that
uphold these beliefs, people often miss important

Market opportunity is a big factor in shaping a company s strategy. Indeed, managers can t properly

How Does Temperature Affect The Rate Of Reaction
A chemical reaction is a process that involves the movement of the molecules in a substance. All
chemical reactions involve both reactants and products. Reactants are substances that cause a
chemical reaction, and products are substances that are generated in the reaction. The reaction
rate for a reactant or product in a particular reaction is defined as how quickly or slowly a
reaction takes place. In general, the reactions between covalent compounds are slow. For example
rusting of iron. In the same way weathering of rocks takes place in millions of years. An example
of a fast reaction rateis in an explosion when the reaction has to happen quickly. In general, the
reactions between ionic compounds are fast. This reaction is also called neutralisation reaction.
Reaction rates can be altered in four ways these are; The temperature is increased, the
concentration of a dissolved reactant is increased, the pressure of a reacting gas is increased, solid
reactants are broken into smaller pieces and if a catalyst is used or added. In this investigation it
was tested if a chemical reactionwould occur faster if the surrounding temperature was hotter.
Aim
The aim of this experiment was to find out how temperature affects the rate of reaction between
Sodium thiosulfate (hypo) and hydrochloric acid.
Hypothesis It is believed that if the temperature is hotter then the reaction rate will occur faster.
This is because the heat will make the particles move faster.

Andy Goldsworthy Analysis
In the second half of the twentieth century, artistic movements made pushes in order to move
beyond the traditional gallery space, changing the terrain of displaying and making art. An artist
s body of work no longer needed to reside inside of a gallery or art collection, and artists became
free to explore other ways of creating and displaying work. In this vein, Andy Goldsworthyworks
sculpturally with natural media, and leaves the sculptures within a particular environment, often
expecting his work to decay quickly. Many times, the only evidence of any art he makes is the
photographs taken during the process. By more traditional standards, art of this nature is entirely
contradictory. What is the point of pieces of visual art that cannot... Show more content on

Goldsworthy had constructed a dome made out of sticks at the edge of a tide pool during low tide,
right next to a river meeting an ocean. This is described further by Jeffrey L. Kosky in his book
Arts of Wonder. There Goldsworthy has gathered driftwood into a dome, with a hole at its top,
an echo of the vortex around which a whirlpool might spin or an eddy might form... before being
released into the rushing flow. (156). After finishing constructing the piece, Goldsworthy steps
back to view his piece and is confronted by a man walking by, who asks after some conversation,
What do you expect will happen?... Will it stay intact? , to which Goldsworthy responds, No it
won t, absolutely not. (cite) The tide begins to pull in, and some of the outer shell of sticks begin
to float away. Shortly after though, the entire piece is picked up at once by the tide, and begins to
float above where it was built. After this, the piece slowly floats away, down the river and away
from the camera. Goldsworthy then

The Song Of The Md Poem Analysis
Throughout history, people of different backgrounds have perceived the act of going to war
differently, and it was often reflected in literature in the form of poetry. Some poets, such as
Richard Lovelace and Alfred Lord Tennyson, glorified and honored sacrifice; in contrast, others
like Mary Borden and Wilfred Owen, condemned war and viewed it as a waste of life. The two
poetrycollections, while both discuss the effect of going to war, have very distinct central themes.
The difference can be depicted mainly through each poet s tone and diction, in addition to sound
elements and the point of view. While each element contributes to engaging and/or persuading the
reader, an analysis of those elements, and research on the history of each era, must be done in
order to properly define the motives and purpose of each work of literature.

In The Song of the Mud, Borden uses ironic diction in descriptive lines, such as: The pale yellow
glistening mud that covers the hills like satin While the focus of the poem is exposing the mud as
an active player in the Battle of the Somme, in addition to being the disguise of the war zone, most
lines throughout the poem compare the obvious appearance of the mud to the impertinent,
intrusive, ubiquitous...obscene, filthy, putrid effect it has on the machines, corpses, and most
importantly the soldiers. Similarly, in Dulce et Decorum Est, Owen uses realism to illustrate the
dreadful experience of being forced to fight in war, highlighting the vicious effect of the gas on a
comrade in a dream sequence: Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud / Of vile, incurable sores on
innocent tongues. The tone deduced from these lines is repugnant and blaming. Finally, Owen
resolves to accusing war of being wasteful, stating that dying for one s country is not sweet or
honorable: The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est / Pro patria

Second Wave Of Feminism Analysis
The Second Wave of Feminism took place in the 1960s and 70s, a time of political and social
activism in the United States. Up until the late 1950s and early 1960s, the quintessential
American woman was a homemaker, a wife, and a mother (Gorman 6). For her, success was seen
as having a husband with a good job who could provide for his wife and family (6). As stated by
Jacqueline Laks Gorman, the frustration of the societal limits faced by American women of the mid
twentieth century caused women to unite to fight for equality and women s rights (5).

My Philosophy Statement Essay
My Philosophy Statement
In this philosophy statement you will not be reading the statement of a great philosophical mind,
but of an education student who loves to work with kids and who tries to have the students best
interest in mind. comparing and contrasting my views with the views of many of the philosophical
giants throughout history I will discuss five topics: 1.) the nature of students, 2.) the nature of
knowledge, 3.) the purpose of public education, 4.) the method of education, 5.) and the curriculum
that should be used in public schools.
Taking off on the topic of the nature of human beings we need to look back at our own childhood

I also agree with the pragmatist/progressivists about the area of evolving knowledge. Throughout
our lives, and especially in our younger years, we develop different changes and experiences. For
instance, after sent to stand in the corner for the tenth time Billy finally realized that the action of
talking back to his mother had consequences.
My third topic, the purpose of education, has several areas in it that I am going to discuss, the first
being the general importance of education. Spring outlined many goals for education. The
prevention of teenage pregnancies, prevention of drug abuse, and the prevention of the spread of
sexually transmitted diseases were among the many goals. To achieve these goals I agree with the
pragmatist/progressivists that believe that we need to teach kids how to think and not what to
think. By teaching kids how to think we will allow them to see the consequences of their actions
and let them make the decision of whether they can handle the consequences or not. Today kids are
taught what to think and not how to think so they rebel to get out from under the control of their
authorities not seeing the consequences. For this reason education is very important, because it
allows students the opportunity to make educated and well founded judgments and decisions that
they may not have been able to make otherwise.
Continuing on with my third topic, I hope to accomplish several goals as a

The Pros And Cons Of The New Deal
The New Deal allowed the government to create new programs that either provided relief or
recovery, or were a reform for the problems during that time. In the time of an economic crisis, the
government should get involved and provide a safety net for Americans. Government involvement
is necessary to work towards a resolution, but too much involvement will put too much power in the
Government s hands, which could lead to a government type we do not want in America. During
economic busts, the government should use the programs that are currently in place to provide a
safety net and support Americans. However, during economic booms Americans should provide for
themselves and not be reliant on the government to provide for them.
One of the reforms created through the New Deal that still exists today is Social Security. Social
Security was established through the Social Security Act of 1935 by Franklin D. Roosevelt. It
established a national pension fund, a public assistance program for dependent mothers and
disabled people, an unemployment insurance system, as well as benefits for victims of industrial
accidents (Social Security Act of 1935). Social Security is very beneficial regarding its ability to
help those who need it, but it is also the largest federal program today, resulting in huge expenses.

Manual Transmissions In Classics
Automatic and Manual Transmissions in Classics
Some could argue that there is nothing that compares to downshifting into a tight corner and
shifting up while accelerating on the way out of it. We would argue that the only thing potentially
better, is doing so in a classic sports car.
While it s true that automatic transmissions were made with the idea of promoting pure driving
enjoyment, without the worry of complicating the experience to 3 pedals and RPMs. The question
we re looking at is if there is actually anything you have to know if you have a manual transmission

You have the benefit of being able to drive and really enjoy the vehicle without any hassle.
Manuals are as the name implies, manually controlled transmissions. These transmissions rely on
the driver s ability to best control how the car behaves. This also means that should the driver not
be experienced, they could be doing more bad than good. Meaning they could be causing damage
or require more maintenance on a whole.
We ve found that those who tend to seek out manual classics are looking more for the sport or
muscle classics to get the most out of their power.
This being said, if you re comfortable and confident with your ability to drive a stick, either
option should work for you. After all, there are endless beauties on both sides of the fence and we

Sexual Fantasy Within The Odyssey

September 22, 2015
Sexual Fantasy Within The Odyssey In the Odyssey, by Homer, Homer suggests that women can be
seductive traps that prevent or delay men from reaching their goals. The women that Odysseus
encounters on his journey home in The Odyssey all represent a different sexual fantasy figure in the
eyes of a male, and serve as a distraction that he must work around. Although the three women that
Odysseus encounters on his travels are desirable to him, the only thing that he wants is to get
home to his devoted wife. The soft, alluring, pastoral sensuality of Calypso, the purity, youth and
innocence of the young Nausicaa, and the adventurously sexy Circe are no contest to the loyal
and faithful Penelope. Penelope holds aspects of each of these three women, making her the
most sought after by Odysseus. The goddess Calypso resides in a cave on an island. The lush
and blossomed forest that surrounds her cave symbolizes the idea of and new life, whereas the
cave itself represents a womb. Around her cave the woodland was in bloom,...Four separate
springs flowed with clear water, crisscrossing channels as they meandered through meadows lush
with parsley and blossoming violets (Odyssey, 5. 67 76). These symbols of fertility are important
to males, especially during the time period that the Odyssey portrays when a woman s primary duty
was to birth children and raise them. Odysseus was forced to stay on the island with Calypso for

Some may say that bystanders are terrible and have no sense of morality and yes, that may true
for some bystanders. The case of Kitty Genovese truly shows how cruel and unthoughtful
bystanders can be, but when we ask the question of why people would ignore someone in a crisis
such as that, we automatically make up rationalizations such as diffusion of responsibility but in
reality that s not the case. The idea of this new law is fantastic, absolutely. In reality, this law is

throughout this text is the representations of ambition within the play Macbeth, and we will be
focusing on the protagonist of the story, ironically named Macbeth.
The effect of ambition can be a double edged sword. Ambition can provide a person with desire, so
that they can accomplish goals, and give them a kick start towards them. On the other hand,
however, ambition can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once he murders the King Duncan, he knows that he must prolong his undeserved spot as King, as
the repercussions will be that of the actions that he have committed. This is due to the Chain of
Being, which he has distinctly broken. Once this hypothetical chain is broken, which by the way,
represents the natural order, the universe will be plundered into chaos, and righting the wrong will
retain the natural order.
Throughout the ending of the play, when Duncan s sons plot to overthrow Macbeth, he accepts his
fate, and the apparitions stated by the three witches during their second meeting with Macbeth
come to fruition. He knows of his imminent downfall, and within his final moments of life, he
accepts defeat.
I will not yield to kiss the ground before young Malcolm s feet, and to be baited with the rabble s
curse. Though Birnam Wood be come to Dunsinane, and thou opposed, being of no woman born,
yet I will try the last. Before my body I throw my warlike shield. Lay on, Macduff; and damned be
him that first cries, Hold, enough!
This scene marks the promised demise of Macbeth, and good once again conquering evil. His
ambitions overall lead to his demise, and if he had either followed his orders from the King, who
is a higher being on the Chain of Being , or gained the royal, majestic position through an accepted
process, then his death would not have been sentenced and

The Evaporation Race
When it rains, puddles of water are often left behind, but it starts to disappear after just a few
hours. What is happening? This is called evaporation. Evaporation is a very common natural
process that occurs all around the world, where a liquid changes from a liquid state to a gaseous
state. Evaporation occurs when enough heat energy is absorbed by the molecules in a liquid state
to the point where it starts to vaporize. Do other liquids react in the same way? The answer is yes,
but in this experiment, a heat source will be used to evaporate different liquids. The results will
show if certain liquids do, in fact, evaporate faster or slower than others depending on their
ingredients.
How do liquids change from a liquid to a gas phase? A liquid is a primary state of matter that has
no specific shape. According to chemwiki.ucdavis.edu, Liquids are more dense and less
compressible than gasses. Liquids have a definite volume, independent of the size and shape of
their container. The attractive forces are not strong enough, however, to keep neighboring
molecules in a fixed position and molecules are free to move past or slide ... Show more content on

How is the dependent variable, evaporation rate, affected by different liquids? As said on
water.usgs.gov, Heat (energy) is necessary for evaporation to occurs. Energy is used to break the
bonds that hold water molecules together, which is why water easily evaporates at the boiling point
(212Лљ F, 100ЛљC)... Water s boiling point is a known fact, but other liquids with lower boiling
points evaporate faster, and that is what will make the evaporation rate for each liquid vary. If
energy is added to a liquid, the molecules will react by vibrating faster and spreading apart,
eventually changing the liquid to a gaseous phase. With these facts in mind, one can resume with

The Cost Of Immigration Reform
Over the past years, our nation has been dealing with immigration issues. The issues have divided
our nation and brought about disruption in the nations unity. The immigration topic which has been
an issue for many years, was also a major topic in our 2016 presidential election. However not only
that, the topic evokes questions about the outcome of our nation s economy, if all illegal
immigrants were to be removed. In the 2016 Presidential election, both candidates had distinct
outlooks on immigrationreform. Hillary, was committed to the immigrants rights community where
as, Trump was more focused on enforcing stronger immigration laws. Hillary Clinton s position on
immigration reform was to be devoted to the nations incoming immigrants.... Show more content on

However, there are some immigrants that migrate to the U.S. that are disruptive and dangerous. So,
I believe the most effective way to address the issue of immigration would be that of which would
not cause any riot or separation within the people of the United States or any disruption with any of
the other countries. One solution which would be very critical, would be enforcing immigration
laws humanely. Another solution that would be helpful would be that a guest worker friendly
program be created and enforced. Along with the program, I believe that the U.S. should enhance
border security, but not to the extent of building a wall along the border. In conclusion,
immigration has always been a hot topic in the United States, and we all have different outlooks on
the immigration issues. Although some may fail to accept it, immigrants are a major part of our
nation, and it is interesting to see what will happen with our nation after our new president enters
office and begins enforcing their

  • 2. Activity Based Costing – Glaser Health Products Case Introduction Glaser Health Products manufactures medical items for the health care industry. Production involves machining, assembly and painting. Finished units are then packed and shipped. The financial controller is interested to introduce an activity based costing (ABC) system to allocate (or distribute) indirect costs to products. Indirect costs, as distinct from direct costs, cannot be unambiguously linked to specific products. The controller would like to calculate product costs based on ABC for planning and control, not inventory valuation. Under an ABC system, the allocation of costs to products is achieved through at least four analytical steps. Firstly, costs are grouped into activity levels. Secondly, costdrivers are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cost Drivers by Activity Level by Division Cost drivers can be identified for each activity or cost category based on observation, discussions with management, simulations and statistical studies. The key is to determine the behavior of indirect costs with respect to activity or resource usage in each activity center (Leslie, 2009). These efforts have identified the eight cost drivers shown in Table 3. Direct labor assembly costs are, by their nature, directly traceable to individual products. Therefore the relevant cost driver for this cost is the number of Direct Assembly Labor Hours. The other 21 cost categories are indirect costs. At the unit activity level, electricity assembly costs are likely to vary with Direct Labor Hours, Assembly. Similarly, the three machining costs grouped at the unit activity level are likely to vary with by the number of Direct Labor Hours, Machining. Secondly, at the batch activity level, paint cost is likely to vary mainly with the Number of Batches Processed. Painting activity is the only batch activity at Glaser. Thirdly, at the product activity level, the two Operations costs are likely to vary mainly with the Number of Units Produced and the three Sales costs are also likely to vary mainly with the Number of Units Produced. Finally, at the facility level, the five Operations costs are likely to vary mainly with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Cells And Organistics Of Plastic Stherent Stromal Cell... The majority of studies and clinical trials have used plastic adherent stromal cell populations expanded in culture. So the starting cell population is heterogeneous comprising progenitors and committed fibroblasts that are less efficacious. By immunoselecting clonogenic MSCs with specific surface markers by flow cytometry or magnetic bead sorting, a homogeneous population of starting cells can be obtained (Lv et al., 2014). As mentioned in section 1.1.1. MSCs are a rare population of cells in tissues, accounting for 1 4% of cells which decrease with increasing age (Stolzing et al., 2008). Due to their rarity, MSCs require extensive culture in vitro to generate sufficient numbers for clinical transplantation especially for use in adult... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Studies have shown that the survival rate was significantly less in patients treated with late passage MSCs compared to early passage MSCs (von Bahr et al., 2012). Heterogeneity and senescence decrease efficiency of culture expanded MSCs with reduced and/or variable clinical outcome as has been the experience to date with bmMSCs (von Bahr et al., 2012, Prockop et al., 2014). Uncultured transgenic MSCs injected into irradiated mice showed 55 65% recovery from bone marrow which decreased to 10% and 0% after only 24 hours and 48 hours of culture respectively, showing both the homing capacity of bmMSCs and the shortness of their survival in vivo on intravenous infusion (Rombouts and Ploemacher, 2003). The authors also suggested that cell cycle stage of bmMSCs at the time of transplantation may be a factor influencing survival, whereby the primary quiescent MSCs in G0 phase of cell cycle survive longer, while the cultured cells are G1 or later stage of the cells cycle have limited survival (Rombouts and Ploemacher, 2003). The homing ability of MSCs decreases significantly if they have been pre cultured (Sohni and Verfaillie, 2013). This shows that culture conditions likely modified the homing receptors for chemokines. The MSC markers CD73, CD90 and CD105 appear to be expressed consistently regardless of the culture environment, passage stage or the functional ability of MSCs (Maumus et al., 2011, Lo Surdo et al., ... It provides a lens that allows the clinician to understand the client s needs in a different way, depending on what theory is being acknowledged. This paper explores three theories, and how they informed projects performed within the Department of Family Services. Additionally, the strengths and limitations of each theoryare also documented. The theory is broad and assists in the understanding of development across the lifespan. Additionally, it takes in to consideration both social and biological factors. In today s society if people watch television programs such as Chingy featuring Snoop Ludacris Holidae; Charlie s Angels; the Z100 commercial with Britney Spears; or Baywatch they will see that the feminine image is presented differently than the masculine. In these programs men are typically placed in sexual situations fully clothed, while women are presented in provocative clothing or less. Commercials use women to sell sex because it attracts more attention than men showing their bodies. For instance, Britney Spears, a singer whom many teenagers admire, appeared in a music commercial for Z100, the number one radio station in New York. Z100 promotes commercially hot music in modes such as pop, rock, and R B. In Z100 s new commercial, Britney Spears is wearing a beige outfit consisting of a tight tube top and small shorts that accent her chest and buttocks. After talking for a moment, she starts dancing with her back facing the camera. Viewers are visually drawn to the shape of her body. As spokesperson for Z100, Britney Spears is being used as a marketing tool to attract men and increase ratings. Z100 could have had a popular male in its commercial. Instead the company s executives chose a popular woman known for her hourglass figure because men prefer to look at young, shapely, nubile women. Television shows concentrate more and more on physical imagery showing women and their bodies exposed in an effort to increase ratings. She was raped when she was nineteen, and public condemned her of losing her virtue, even though virtue is not a woman s consumable good that can be achieved by purity or lost by accident. This reaction is similar to that of school teacher in the poem of MartГn Espada, My Native Costume. In the poem, the teacher asks the writer to wear traditional costume for the students even though the writer defines himself as a lawyer. Judith Slaying Holofernes is one of her masterpieces that has been acknowledged as a proper piece to understand the main characteristics of her painting style. Carol Strickland, an American art historian, explains that this painting shows how Gentileschi depicted her subject into the style of Caravaggio, who was her father s teacher and famous for dramatic lightning (Strickland, 47). Based on these facts, some critics conjecture that Gentileschi may just have borrowed the dramatic story from the Book of Judith to express her technique that resembled that of Caravaggio. They argue that it is unreasonable and too subjective to relate Judith Slaying Holofernes with the identity of Gentileschi. Identity of Gentileschi, however, cannot be separated with the story of Judith and the painting Judith Slaying Holofernes because Gentileschi s identity severely resembles that of Judith. Much Ado About Nothing A Feminist Perspective of Hero in Much Ado About Nothing Unlike the title of this piece suggests, Hero did not undergo her transformation in Much Ado About Nothing through magic. Rather, Hero was a victim of the double standards and illogical fears that the men of Shakespeare s plays commonly held. The following quote sums it up quite well: In the plays female sexuality is not expressed variously through courtship, pregnancy, childbearing, and remarriage, as it is in the period. Hero s beauty is all he seems to be concerned about since he makes no mention of her other possible virtues and attributes. This banter between the men is consistent with the notion that all Shakespeare men want to marry a pure, socially benefiting woman and avoid cuckoldry. Claudio also does not seem to know much about Hero, thus explaining why he is asking Benedick and Don Pedro about her. He not only wants to know that his budding feelings are justified, but he wants to make sure that his choice of lady is indeed worthy of his honor. Even if Hero is fair, if she will not compliment Claudio s social status, he will not marry her (Ranald 74). Hero does not get a chance to mull over the idea of Claudio as a husband. Even the audience knows little about her going into the now famous shaming scene. Details about Hero s virtues and personality are purposely left out, partially to satisfy the dominant male perspective in the play, but also to give more clout to the heinous claim that Claudio makes during the wedding. The reactions of Hero s father and others indicate that a woman s virtues are only as good as a man says they are. • 15. The Roles Of The Role Of Women In The Iliad Throughout history, the role of women in the society has been a topic of debate. Men have traditionally been viewed as superior since the beginning of time. As a war poem, the Iliad too highlights the battles and decisions of men. The position of women in the Iliad can be analyzed in two parts: the mortal sphere and the immortal sphere. Mortal women are less prominent than the mortal men, who are either treated as the property of men (for example Chryseis and Briseis) or are typecast as interlocutors and stereotyped mothers like Thetis and Queen Hecuba. However, these women are not completely without power or persuasive influence, as they affect the events off the battlefield. In the other sphere, Goddesses like Athena and Hera, seem to be more powerful and influential than their male counterparts. One of the primary purposes of the mortal women in the Iliad is to serve as objects of prize or bounty to the war heroes. This is shown from the beginning with the priest Chryses brining a priceless ransom to win his daughter, Chryseis, back from king Agamemnon. In psychology and cognitive science, confirmation bias (or confirmatory bias) is a tendency to search for or interpret information in a way that confirms one s preconceptions, leading to statistical errors. It is a type of cognitive bias and represents an error of inductive inference toward confirmation of the hypothesis under study. Confirmation bias is a phenomenon wherein decision makers have been shown to actively seek out and assign more weight to evidence that confirms their hypothesis, and ignore or underweigh evidence that could disconfirm their hypothesis. As such, it can be thought of as a form of selection bias in collecting evidence. An individual might even seek out proof that further backs up this belief, while discounting examples that do not support this idea. Unlike other similar concepts such overconfidence bias or anchoring, confirmation biases impact how people gather information, but they also influence how people interpret and recall information. For example, people who support or oppose a particular issue will not only seek information that supports their beliefs, they will also interpret news stories in a way that upholds their existing ideas and remember things in a way that also reinforces these attitudes. Therefore, this concept is important because without seeking for objective facts, interpreting information in a way that only supports one s existing beliefs, and only remembering details that uphold these beliefs, people often miss important ... All chemical reactions involve both reactants and products. Reactants are substances that cause a chemical reaction, and products are substances that are generated in the reaction. The reaction rate for a reactant or product in a particular reaction is defined as how quickly or slowly a reaction takes place. In general, the reactions between covalent compounds are slow. For example rusting of iron. In the same way weathering of rocks takes place in millions of years. An example of a fast reaction rateis in an explosion when the reaction has to happen quickly. In general, the reactions between ionic compounds are fast. This reaction is also called neutralisation reaction. Reaction rates can be altered in four ways these are; The temperature is increased, the concentration of a dissolved reactant is increased, the pressure of a reacting gas is increased, solid reactants are broken into smaller pieces and if a catalyst is used or added. In this investigation it was tested if a chemical reactionwould occur faster if the surrounding temperature was hotter. Aim The aim of this experiment was to find out how temperature affects the rate of reaction between Sodium thiosulfate (hypo) and hydrochloric acid. The Song Of The Md Poem Analysis Throughout history, people of different backgrounds have perceived the act of going to war differently, and it was often reflected in literature in the form of poetry. Some poets, such as Richard Lovelace and Alfred Lord Tennyson, glorified and honored sacrifice; in contrast, others like Mary Borden and Wilfred Owen, condemned war and viewed it as a waste of life. The two poetrycollections, while both discuss the effect of going to war, have very distinct central themes. The difference can be depicted mainly through each poet s tone and diction, in addition to sound elements and the point of view. My third topic, the purpose of education, has several areas in it that I am going to discuss, the first being the general importance of education. Spring outlined many goals for education. The prevention of teenage pregnancies, prevention of drug abuse, and the prevention of the spread of sexually transmitted diseases were among the many goals. To achieve these goals I agree with the pragmatist/progressivists that believe that we need to teach kids how to think and not what to think. Today kids are taught what to think and not how to think so they rebel to get out from under the control of their authorities not seeing the consequences. In the time of an economic crisis, the government should get involved and provide a safety net for Americans. Government involvement is necessary to work towards a resolution, but too much involvement will put too much power in the Government s hands, which could lead to a government type we do not want in America. During economic busts, the government should use the programs that are currently in place to provide a safety net and support Americans. However, during economic booms Americans should provide for themselves and not be reliant on the government to provide for them. Sexual Fantasy Within The Odyssey Cassidy Bulger Professor Isser Montserrat September 22, 2015 Sexual Fantasy Within The Odyssey In the Odyssey, by Homer, Homer suggests that women can be seductive traps that prevent or delay men from reaching their goals. The women that Odysseus encounters on his journey home in The Odyssey all represent a different sexual fantasy figure in the eyes of a male, and serve as a distraction that he must work around. Although the three women that Odysseus encounters on his travels are desirable to him, the only thing that he wants is to get home to his devoted wife. The soft, alluring, pastoral sensuality of Calypso, the purity, youth and innocence of the young Nausicaa, and the adventurously sexy Circe are no contest to the loyal and faithful Penelope. Penelope holds aspects of each of these three women, making her the most sought after by Odysseus. The goddess Calypso resides in a cave on an island. He knows of his imminent downfall, and within his final moments of life, he accepts defeat. I will not yield to kiss the ground before young Malcolm s feet, and to be baited with the rabble s curse. Though Birnam Wood be come to Dunsinane, and thou opposed, being of no woman born, yet I will try the last. Before my body I throw my warlike shield. Lay on, Macduff; and damned be him that first cries, Hold, enough! This scene marks the promised demise of Macbeth, and good once again conquering evil. His ambitions overall lead to his demise, and if he had either followed his orders from the King, who is a higher being on the Chain of Being , or gained the royal, majestic position through an accepted process, then his death would not have been sentenced and ... • 43. The Evaporation Race Leanna Lim Mrs. Stout P1 1/20/16 The Evaporation Race When it rains, puddles of water are often left behind, but it starts to disappear after just a few hours. What is happening? This is called evaporation. Evaporation is a very common natural process that occurs all around the world, where a liquid changes from a liquid state to a gaseous state. Evaporation occurs when enough heat energy is absorbed by the molecules in a liquid state to the point where it starts to vaporize. Do other liquids react in the same way? The answer is yes, but in this experiment, a heat source will be used to evaporate different liquids. The results will show if certain liquids do, in fact, evaporate faster or slower than others depending on their ingredients. How do liquids change from a liquid to a gas phase? A liquid is a primary state of matter that has no specific shape. According to chemwiki.ucdavis.edu, Liquids are more dense and less compressible than gasses. Liquids have a definite volume, independent of the size and shape of their container. The attractive forces are not strong enough, however, to keep neighboring molecules in a fixed position and molecules are free to move past or slide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How is the dependent variable, evaporation rate, affected by different liquids? As said on water.usgs.gov, Heat (energy) is necessary for evaporation to occurs. Energy is used to break the bonds that hold water molecules together, which is why water easily evaporates at the boiling point (212Лљ F, 100ЛљC)... Water s boiling point is a known fact, but other liquids with lower boiling points evaporate faster, and that is what will make the evaporation rate for each liquid vary. If energy is added to a liquid, the molecules will react by vibrating faster and spreading apart, eventually changing the liquid to a gaseous phase. With these facts in mind, one can resume with the topic of this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So, I believe the most effective way to address the issue of immigration would be that of which would not cause any riot or separation within the people of the United States or any disruption with any of the other countries. One solution which would be very critical, would be enforcing immigration laws humanely. Another solution that would be helpful would be that a guest worker friendly program be created and enforced. Along with the program, I believe that the U.S. should enhance border security, but not to the extent of building a wall along the border. In conclusion, immigration has always been a hot topic in the United States, and we all have different outlooks on the immigration issues. Although some may fail to accept it, immigrants are a major part of our nation, and it is interesting to see what will happen with our nation after our new president enters office and begins enforcing their ...
