O Research objectives are the specific actions
proposed to answer the research questions .
O Objectives indicate what we are trying to get
from the study or the expected results or
outcomes of the study.
O They are closely related to the statement of
the problem.
CHARACTERISTICS
O Research objectives should be clear ,
achievable and verifiable - as they directly
assist in answering the research questions /
problem .
O Objectives may be specified in the form of
actions (verbs) to answer the posed
questions-generally objectives begin with to :
discover …, determine …, establish …
access……identify……, compare …., analyze ,
evaluate…..,…etc.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES
OThey are broad goals to be achieved and
state what the researcher expects to achieve
by the study in general terms
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
OThey are short term and narrow in focus
OThey address various aspects of the research
problem
OThey should specify what the researcher will
do in the study, where and for what purpose
OThey are divided in three phases: Exploratory,
descriptive and explanatory
EXPLORATORY PHASE
O The objectives of this level provide the
researcher a general vision regarding the
focus of the study

O These objectives intend to describe in detail
