The Fifth Season Sparknotes
Okay, so this is how this is going to work... The deep book review will be split into different sections,
one where I will dump a bunch of information about the storyline on the reader, another where I will
rant about what makes this book deep but not good, and, finally, another about the author. The
footnotes will be my way of interjecting Laszlo esque commentary on what would normally be a more
formal piece of writing without drastically altering the formality of the review.
Throughout the book, The Fifth Season changes from Syenite to Damaya to, finally, a character
referred to as you (as you might expect, all chapters written from you s perspective are written in
second person). As the book moves on, switching from character to character, similarities between
Syenite and Damaya start to appear, until, chapter seventeen, when it is revealed Damaya is just a
young Syenite. Towards the end, Syenite is revealed to be you (your name is Essun). So all along,
when you thought you were reading the story of three different ... Show more content on

The Fifth Season is definitely interesting, however, I sort of enjoyed reading it because of its
complexity, and, as it is part of a series, it has a sequel. This sequel gives you a glimpse into what is
going on with Nassun and helps explain some stuff, namely, what the hell is happening. Well, Father
Earth lost his favorite child, so, in an attempt to appease Father Earth, some of the stone eaters decided
they should try and get his favorite child, the moon back. So, the book ends with Essun getting ready
to catch the moon. Pure awesomeness aside, I feel like I liked it better when things were confusing.
The second book, The Obelisk Gate, doesn t contain as many of the storyline scrambling mind
blowing revelations that made the first one so interesting, so it has to rely mostly on storyline. This
means it is a bit more enjoyable to read, but it doesn t contain any of the things that, in my mind, make

Research Paper On Okinawa
History of Okinawa (沖縄県) Okinawa or formally known as the Ryukyu kingdom is the most
southern prefecture of Japan. Its capital Naha is located in the southern end of a chain of island that
spans over 1000km including hundreds of small islands between Kyushu and Taiwan. The climates of
the islands range from humid subtropical towards the northern end to tropical rainforest climates in the
south. Of the hundreds of island, less than half are inhabited while much of the other island are coral
reefs and too small to live on. Because of the lack of land and the difference in climate between the
different islands, agriculture was a slow development from the 8th century to the 12th century. The
Okinawa islands are not suited for wet rice farming as there are a lack of rivers and large lakes, which
means it must rely on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to Okinawa s geographical advantage, it was a launch pad for covert missions over South East
Asia. Growing tension between the people and the military highlighted the anti Vietnam war sentiment
that connected the political views for the reversion of Okinawa to Japan (Morrocco). More
controversy grew alleging the storage of Nuclear weapons on Okinawa and growing fears over the
escalating Vietnam War as people perceived this as being a potential target for Communist China as
they could feel threatened by the US military power. As more information leaked out the local
population grew fear for the potential of a retaliation by the Chinese government (Mitchell). The
Okinawa uprising, also known as the Koza riot was a violent and spontaneous protest against the US
military personnel in Okinawa. This event which occurred on December 20, 1970 was symbolised as
the Okinawan anger against the 25 years of military occupation. This was one of the many challenges

DNA Technology Task 3 Poster
DNA fingerprinting, also known as DNA profiling, is a technique used in forensic science that
identifies individuals based on various characteristics of their DNA. Although the DNA sequences
between humans are 99.9% identical, DNA fingerprinting is able to distinguish between individuals
due to the presence of specific sequences within the non coding region of the genome known as
satellite DNA. This satellite DNA consists of long stretches of DNA made up of repeating base
sequences known as short tandem repeats (STR). These STRs considerably vary in length between
individuals, particularly between unrelated individuals, allowing exact individuals to be identified.
One major use of DNA fingerprinting is in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the presence of negatively charged phosphate groups within the sugar phosphate backbone of
DNA, the DNA fragments diffuse through the gel towards the anode. The smaller fragments are more
able to penetrate through the gel and thus travel the furthest whereas the larger fragments travel a
shorter distance. The exact size in bases for each separated fragment in a given sample of DNA can be
determined by comparing each fragment against standard fragments of known length. This is
commonly known as a ladder within the laboratory. For the purposes of a crime scene investigation,
multiple DNA samples would be simultaneously run through the gel, Once separated, a DNA
fragmentation pattern is produced that allows the criminal to be identified. As shown in the figure
below, a DNA sample obtained from the crime scene is compared to two possible suspects. The
pattern of suspect 1 more closely matches the pattern of the DNA obtained from the crime scene thus
allowing the true criminal to be correctly identified. Similarly, for paternal testing, the DNA samples
of the mother and child are compared to the potential fathers. The fragmentation pattern of the child
should resemble both the mother and true father as half of child s alleles are inherited from the mother
and father. Male 1 resembled the child s

Sartre No Exit Essay
Decisions, Decisions In Jean Paul Sartre s play No Exit, three different characters, Joseph Garcin, Inez
Serrano and Estelle Rigault are portrayed together in hell. Although in hell for different reasons, the
common thread that binds them is the fact that they all chose to make undeniably terrible decisions in
their past lives. These characters unequivocally believed that the decisions they made while they were
living, should not constitute their being sent to hell. They believed that the punishments that they
received, hell, was inappropriate and not where they were supposed to be and at the very least, if in
fact in hell, then they should be tormented in a proper manner, torture chamber style. However, based
off of Sartre s portrayal of these character s life choices, how one lives their life and the decisions that

Existentialism, according to www.dictionary.com, is, A philosophical attitude associated especially

The progressive era in the United States is associated with political reforms and social change. During
the late 1800s and early 1900s, the United States power was experienced across the globe. Business
firms experienced immense growth making some owners excessively rich. On the other hand, the
American people experienced unhappiness owing to some problems at home. Workers in the huge
corporations did not experience considerable changes in their lives. Employees were subjected to
severe working conditions, which were exposed by muckrakers among other people. Railroad charges
for shipping crops were very high, which gave farmers immense problems. Increased immigration

Sinclair exposed the presence of insects and rats in meat packing plants, which could have a
significant effect on people s health. Some individuals in the federal government knew of the
conditions in such plants but made no interventions. However, the publishing of the book The Jungle
caused pressures from authorities, including President Roosevelt, which led to the enactment of the
Meat Inspection Act. Other writers, such as Ida Tarbell, exposed unethical business competition
techniques, such as that of the Standard Oil Company, which pushed competitors from the market.
The unhealthy living conditions in the overcrowded slums were also exposed by writers. The New
York s Wall Street was also targeted by some writers as few individuals controlled the flow of money
in the entire nation. These writers were referred to as muckrakers. President Roosevelt compared them
to people raking up the muck without doing any good (Cocks, Holloran, Lessoff, 2009). However, the
muckrakers are recognized for exposing the ills that threatened to damage the United States society.
The works of such writers also stimulated policymakers to seek alternative ways of doing things.
Muckrakers played a significant role in exposing scandals, corruption, and wastes, which could not

Strategic Performance Analysis Of Delta, Southwest, And...
Introduction:
Developing a strategic performance plan for a company is only the first step. The plan must then be
implemented and after a short period of time it must then be evaluated. This evaluation is key in
determining if the strategic plan is not only effective but also efficient. After being presented with
yearly data for the top three competitors, Delta, Southwest, and United Airlines, of the US airline
industry, it was my goal to develop comparative performance metrics to find out how if the companies
strategies are efficient in a financial standpoint. While I calculated all of the required metrics, only a
few stood out to me as useful when evaluating the companies. Some of the key performance metrics
that I computed are revenue per employee, accounts receivable turnover, current ratio, and return on
assets.
Revenue per employee
Revenue per employee is a calculation that allows you see if the company is effectively utilizing its
resources and also what their level of productivity is. Revenue per employee and productivity share a
positive relationship so the higher the output, the better. After calculating each company s revenue per
employee during the fiscal years 2005 to 2012, I calculated the average to make an overall comparison
of the three.
Delta Airlines came out on top with the highest revenue per employee and United Airlines with a close
second. This shows that these three companies are staying relatively competitive with their
productivity.

Rome And Han Comparison Essay

Group LEQ: Rome and Han Comparison
By the second and third centuries C.E, trade routes were connecting many civilizations across the land
and sea. These routes traded not only goods, but new beliefs and values as well. However, something
malicious also spread through these trade routes: disease. Both the Roman and Han empires
experienced imperial decline due to epidemic diseases spread by trade routes as well as conflicts with
neighboring forces due to clashing beliefs, however the Han Empire faced more internal problems,
whereas the Romans faced unrest from outside of the empire.

China mainly faced internal struggles, while the Romans mainly faced problems from external
sources. One problem was the aristocrats forming factions among each other, with each faction
seeking to gain more power for itself, which weakened the central government. Another problem was
the uneven distribution of land. Many landowners that possessed most of the land, were powerful
figures in the government who shifted the tax burden onto peasants. This angered the peasants, who
started the Yellow Turban Rebellion in 184 C.E. While the rebellion was unsuccessful in overthrowing
the empire, the unhappiness of the peasants would later lead to many more uprisings. By 220 C.E, the
emperor had no real political power and the Han generals abolished the empire and divided it into
three large kingdoms. On the other hand, the Romans were faced with a massive empire that they
struggled to manage. From 235 to 284 C.E, there were 26 different barrack emperors who controlled
Rome. The position was unstable, and many of them were betrayed and killed. The Roman economy
was also going downhill, and they were also faced with a population decline. These factors also
created a lack of resources needed to protect the empire. China s internal problems were due to the
peasants feeling like they were being mistreated; Rome s problems were due to its size and the

Written by Bob Goudswaard, David Van Heemst, and Mark Vander Vennen Hope in Troubled Times:
A New Vision for Confronting Global Crises, is a compelling book that captures the attention of any
reader especially when we live in such troubling times. The Forward was written by none other than
Christian Leader Desmond Tutu who opposed the apartheid in South Africa. Despite the cheery title
this book was no easy read what so ever. The book covered topics cush as Worldwide Poverty,
Environmental Degradation and Widespread Terrorism, just to name a few. The authors of this book
had an interesting approach to laying these topics out, going in to great detail. Writing from a more
realist approach the authors claimed not to be optimist, which was evident and at times they seemed
slightly pessimistic. Throughout the book the authors made excellent use of many of our cultural
problems pointing out their ideological roots. But before they did that they took to time to explain in
great lengths what ideology really is and how it came about. It is more than just the dictionary
definition: the body of doctrine, myth or beliefs that guide an individual, social movement, institution,
class, or large group (Dictionary.com). However, the explained how good ideas with good intentions
and legitimate goals can over time become ideological without realizing it. Even goal like the

Summary Of Software Prefects
Abstract Early predictions of software defects during software development life cycle play a vital role
to produce successful software project. Besides, it reduces the cost of software development,
maintains high quality, improves software testing and facilitates procedures to identify defect prone of
software packages. We need more research studies today to improve convergence across research
studies due to its use a different of inconsistent measurements. Therefore, to avoid several types of
bias: different sizes of the dataset are used in our study to avoid the bias of data. Comparative studies

Therefore, if we can identify which modules in software most probably to be defective it can help us
to reduce our limited resources and time of development [2]. Based on the specific types of software
metrics in the previous research studies, numbers of predictive classification model are proposed for
software quality it can explore the defectives in some of the software modules by using several types
of classifiers such as decision tree [3], SVM [4], ANN [5] and Naïve Bayes [6]. The classification
model is one of the most common approaches used for early prediction of software defects [7],
including two categories: Fault Prone (FP) software and Non Fault Prone (NFP) software. The
prediction model represented by a set of code attribute or software metrics [7, 8]. The objective of this
research is utilized ensemble learning method that combines the vote of multiple learner classifiers by
using the different subset of feature to improve the accuracy of supervised learning. Another
advantage of ensemble methods, it enhances the performance by using different types of classifiers
together because it reduces the variance between them and keeps bias error rate without increasing.
Two main types of ensemble methods [9]: Bagging and Boosting techniques [10]. The first one
depends on subsampling of the training dataset by replacement sample and generates training subset

Consequently, the matter gets worse in some states and local counties. In order to fulfill the people

Hydraulic Fracturing Of Natural Gas From Deep Below The...
Fracking, also known as hydraulic fracturing involves the extraction of natural gas from deep below
the ground. A shaft is drilled into the ground followed by a horizontal well hole that flows to the gas
layer of the earth. The well is divided into smaller sections and these sections are fractured in sections.
Fracking fluid (7 million litres of water is used, several thousand tonnes of sand and 200,000 tonnes of
chemicals (de Rijke, 2013)) is then pumped into the ground at high velocity. Cracks are produced in
the rocks, the sand in the mixture prevents cracks from closing again. The water is then pumped out
and natural gas is now easily obtained. (BBC News, 2016). The first well was constructed in 1949 and

located on an area that is on the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland

Two of the main companies involved in fracking in the UK include, Cuadrilla and Igas. Many protests

they will frack for shale gas if it is approved. (British Geological Survey, 2015). Many of the issues

It may have outdated ideas and themes but that is a product of literature of the 18th century. Survival
in the 1700s on a deserted island is the same as survival on a desert island today witch I find
interesting. Except Crusoe had access to firearms. Throughout his time on the island, he relies heavily
on a fowling piece (and un rifled musket designed to use multiple round lead balls, this gave each ball
less overall velocity, but it was designed to be used at close ranges similar to a shotgun) this gave him
the biggest advantage on the island. I agree with McInally that colonialism and expansion of trade
were some of the biggest themes of the novel. Defoe s was writing about what he knew and
experienced. Also from the stories about the savageness and unforgiveness of the new world. The
most important theme was the mastering of oneself and destiny before you can truly understand what
is important to you and how you are going to live your life. Throughout crusoe s time of the island this
continues, cultivates barley, rice and corn, builds a fort, domesticated goats, He kills the cannibals and

The Impact Of Sports And Sports In Elizabethan England
There were many sports that made popular by citizens in Elizabethan England. Nobles most often
participated in sports such as archery, bowling, dice, hammer throwing and most known tennis (
Alchin Elizabethan Sports ). These nobles watched wrestling and blood sports including bear and bull
baiting and dog and cock fighting. The queen often appeared at these events (Alchin Elizabethan Bear
Bull Baiting ). Sports began to come from other countries and continents as people would travel to
england. Tennis was the most popular sport by the upper classes and originated in medieval France.
Sports presented an opportunity as a release for England s people. The most popular sport was bear

formed to host these spectacles. Philip Henslowe established dedicated animal fighting arenas in
Thames (Alchin Elizabethan Bear Bull Baiting ). The noisy, blood arenas were popular, and
considered the main competition to the plays put on at theaters. These spectacles gave people a place
to get away and watch a beloved event (Andrews). Golf s popularity was short lived. King James VI
of Scotland made it popular while he reined (Baker 86). Believed to have been popular solely for the
reason of the King playing it along with his mother.

Great White Fleet Essay
The Great White Fleet was a powerful battle fleet sent off by Theodore Roosevelt on a round the globe
journey dating from December of 1907 to February 1909. The fleet was four squadrons of warships;
or 16 battleships and their supporting auxiliary ships, which were painted white for no other reason
than the visual appeal and to hide mechanical errors contained in the engine rooms. All were manned
by 14,000 sailors and marines and traveled 43,000 miles. The fleet made twenty port calls on six
different continents. The hopes for the effect this battle fleet would cause were mostly about America s
image. Roosevelt s plan was to use this fleet to show the world how powerful we had become, as well
as demonstrate our navy capability. It was impressive to many, displayed great influence and

Inventing Historical Truth On The Silver Screen Analysis
When viewing films of the past, we then form a counter discourse because we can compare it to
modern day views and beliefs. The article, Inventing Historical Truth on the Silver Screen, by Robert
Rosenstone, explains having a current perspective on history and how we interpret it. Written
historical documents can only be backed up by truth so far. These films Amistad, 1776, and The Black
Robe, can help form ideas of what might have happened, but that is what they are used for, to help
mold and shape historical events to the present day.
It is clear and obvious that slavery is wrong and never should have happened, but certain people
decided differently. Of course we do not obtain video footage of such historical event and go off of
verbal and written documentation, but the movie Amistad, goes into detail about how the slaves were
treated. It was inhumane and they were treated worse than animals. They were captured, traded in
from their own people, beaten, killed, raped, separated from families, forced to work and do things no
one should ever have to go through. But for public purposes, it did not show everything they went
through. The movie definitely softens certain clips for the reason of who might watch the film and for
what they would be allowed to film and produce. A few examples would be when the shipmen were
softly kissing on the women slaves on the boat, how the movie portrayed the selling of slaves, and
how Baldwin received one swat on his head and a few death letters. ... Show more content on

Jane Austen was born in December 16, 1775 in Steventon, Hampshire, England. Jane was the seventh
of eight children and the second of two girls. Growing up Jane and her older sister, Cassandra attended
Abby s boarding school, their only education outside of their family.( ) As a result, she became ever
fascinated by a world of stories, Jane began to write in bound notebooks ( Jane Austen Biography ).
Austen s notebooks were filled with poems and stories that she would soon use in the fast approaching
future. Many of her most famous stories are Emma, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, and Sense
and Sensibility. Within the stories such as in Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen satirizes values and
functioning of the British Society in several ways through her characters. Firstly, she attacks the
numerous social limitations put on women and their views on marriage resulting because of these
restrictions during that time ( enotes ). Jane Austen often used her writings to depict her viewpoint of
the British Social Class System. British Class System is a system in which a person belongs to the

qualitative and quantitative research methods
Psychological Research Methods: Exploring Qualitative and Quantitative Research
In psychology, answers to our questions are not as succinct as in other types of sciences, and the
findings essentially depend upon the underlying epistemology used. This essay seeks to define and
examine the fields of qualitative and quantitative research. It will address the different epistemologies
and methodologies of each paradigm, and aim to give you a brief overview of the two main research
methods underlying scientific knowledge.
Qualitative research is often only defined in contrast to Quantitative research; That is, it does not

Ponterotto (2005) further states that the aim of quantitative research is the prediction, and control of
variables that can be expressed as mathematical formulas to determine functional relationships.
These differing ontological approaches bring to pass differing methodological approaches.
Methodology refers to the processes and procedures of the research. Research methods used include
observation, interviews, focus groups, surveys, case studies, questionnaires and analysis of text
(Ponterotto, 2005, p.132).
Observational research is non experimental research where a researcher observes ongoing behaviour.
It can be unstructured, semi structured, structured, participant or non participant (Wellington
Szczerbinski, 2007, p.80). Some limitations to this type of research are language and cultural barriers
as well as the risk of observer bias, with one of the advantages being that the researcher gains access
to information they normally wouldn t have. Observation is typically used in qualitative research, but
can be used in quantitative research prior to designing questionnaires (Wellington Szczerbinski, 2007,
p.80).
As with observation, interviews and focus groups can be structured, semi structured and unstructured,
and can use photographs, notes, videos and tape recordings to improve data quality. Interviewing
allows the researcher to guide and

was taken with no control group applied, where subjects knew the intention of the study. Pre and post
measurements were taken for analysis. Prior to conducting the study all of the subjects had to

Once the subject had completed the warm up session, they were then instructed to stand on the Biodex
Balance System (BSS) (Biodex, Shirley, New York, USA), using the leg that they would use to kick a

their dominant knee up to 10° to ensure that the talo crural joint was mainly targeted during testing.
They were also required to maintain an upright posture, and to maintain a comfortable knee angle with
the unsupported leg. If the subject were to touch the support railings during the assessment, it would
invalidate the results and have to be repeated. Once in position, the platform was unlocked allowing
for movement. The subjects were then instructed to adjust their dominant foot s position until they
found the position at which they were at the most comfortable and stable. This was done to establish
the subject s ideal foot positioning for testing. The platform was then locked, and subjects were told to
maintain their foot position. This position was used for testing, and recorded by investigators. The
testing protocol consisted of a single 20 second test using level 8 resistance provided by the BSS. This
process was then repeated for the opposite limb. Each subject then received a figure of eight, heel lock

Cloud Gate Visual Analysis
Art can speak to people in many different ways. Art stimulates viewers visual senses, and allows them
to express themselves in ways they could have never thought possible. Cloud Gate, commonly
referred to as The Bean , is an intriguing art piece. Kapoor s Cloud Gate sculpture challenges viewers
to contemplate self image, three dimensional life, and religion through its structure and appearance.
Cloud Gate reaches a wide range of people because of its popularity. It has become Chicago s second
largest tourist attraction. The sculpture was constructed in 2004, but its official dedication to Chicago s
Millennium Park took place in 2006. Since then, it has been featured in the press quite a bit. Many
movies, including The Break Up, have given this marvelous art piece a cameo. The Bean can also be
seen in Kanye West s music video, Homecoming . This allows the beauty of The Bean to shine
worldwide. Some of the popularity of the art can also be contributed to its media debuts.

The sculpture is built to appear as both an ovary and a testical. This may make some people
uncomfortable, but it coneys an important message. Men and women play very separate roles in
society, today. It seems to be hard for men and women to relate to one another. Friendships between
the opposite genders are becoming less common. This may be because people fear expressing
themselves in front of the opposite gender. Men might feel as if they look less masculine when doing
things such as shopping or buying flowers. Similarly, women may feel that they are coming off as less
feminine when they go to the gym or change a tire. Kapoor s Cloud Gate sculpture is a reminder that
we are all equal. We should not separate ourselves according to gender, in fact, we should unify.
People should be able to do things that they enjoy without fearing

Everyday we place our trust in people and the services those people provide. We trust that our friends
will not betray our confidences, that the water we drink will not make us ill, that the building we work

Effects Of Colonization In Africa
J. Klíma argues that Africa was the most affected by colonization. Colonialism established artificial
states which did not respect ethnic, natural and cultural units. Massive decolonization of the countries
in Africa commenced mainly after the Second World War. The Anglophone countries struggled for
their independence more or less successfully. Great Britain began to retreat from the Empire shortly
after 1945. The British government fell back because they could not afford financing of the
administration, army and other important issues to maintain their distant possessions. There was not
only lack of interest to engage in African possessions, there was also general persuasion of
illegitimacy of colonialism. It is confirmed by United Nations resolution (Declaration on the Granting
of Independence to Colonial Countries and People). According to this resolution, Recognizing the
passionate yearning for freedom in all dependent peoples and the decisive role of such peoples in the
attainment of their independence, and Recognizing that the peoples of the world ardently desire the
end of colonialism in all its manifestations, Milestone in decolonization in sub Saharan Africa became

The Attacks on the Berlin Wall ...Indeed, under certain conditions, our obligations are to resist unjust

this quote would be The Berlin Wall in Berlin, Germany from 1961 1989. The Wall was set up to keep
the fascist West Berlin away from Communist East Berlin. However, the wall was fuel to the fire of
civil disobedience in Berlin, Germany. Most of the civilians undertook civil disobedience to fight the

The Objectives Of Positivism
It has to recognise that the positivism doctrine is complex in terms of explaining succinct and precise
manner due to the fact that there are major differences among settings researchers make use of
positivism. The variations for clarifying positivism might be equal in number of authors that addresses
the area of research philosophy. However, within its spirit, positivism is dependent on the idea that
reveals science is the only approach to learn about the truth (Alasuutari Brannen, 2008).
Interpretive, critical and positivist sociology comes up with unique observing standards and depicting

As mentioned by Denscombe (2014), one major mistake that can be highlighted in Positivist social
research is certain assumption that is developed on scientific inquiry. For adopting positivistic stance,
it is not just for adopting specific approaches to develop research studies. Sarantakos (2012) pointed
out that this implies that the study result might incline to be presented as recognised truths and
objective facts.
Today, positivists are less enthusiastic for certain earlier expectations of epistemology. Recognising
the claims for accuracy and objectivity rests over less secure foundation that is once believed aspect of

Portrayal Of Women In The Odyssey Essay
hough women play a central role in The Odyssey written by famous author Homer the portrayal and
characterization of said women highlights the negative portrayal of women at the time as well as
shows double standards that still plague our society today. All of the women are characterized with
few traits, most of which only describe their looks, while the reader is constantly reminded of all of
Odysseus good traits, most of which have nothing to do with his looks. Even Penelope, who is
portrayed as the ideal woman, is only ever described as beautiful and faithful . Sadly, this sexism is
reflected in the Ancient Greek s patriarchal society in which women were considered the property of
men and they were married off with or without consent at very young ages. Women play a central role
in the Odyssey, yet due to the Ancient Greek s society prejudices the women are written in a way that
clearly highlights the double standards of society and the way men used to portray women. In the
society of Ancient Greece women were never in charge of their own decisions and often had little to
no say in them and were often married at young ages and were judged, not by her own achievements,
but by their looks, and the wealth and status of their fathers or husbands. Even Penelope seems to
acknowledge this when she says My looks, my face, my carriage, were soon faded or lost. knowing
that is what the people of the Ancient Greek society judged people on. After Odysseus is presumed

The Atmosphere and The Ozone Layer
The atmosphere is an amazing creation. It contains many things that help make this world a place
where we can live. The atmosphere contains ozone. That helps protect our skin from harmful sun rays.
Many layers make up our atmosphere. There are five main layers, the troposphere, stratosphere,
mesosphere, thermosphere, and lastly the exosphere. Each layer has a different purpose. Clouds are
located in the atmosphere and are a big part of the water cycle. There are different types of clouds and
they all have different effects. Conduction and convection also play a big part in how we live our lives
today.
Ozone is a gas in the atmosphere. It absorbs ultraviolet radiation from the sun. Without ozone, our
skin would burn from the suns radiation. Ozone can be either good or bad for your health. It depends
on the location of it in the atmosphere. It can also be bad for the environment. When ozone is near the
ground it is considered very dangerous. During the hot summer months ozone levels should be
monitored. In the summer, more harmful ozone concentrations are in the air we use. Inhaling ozone
can be very dangerous to our health. It can cause a number of health problems. Scientists are figuring
out ways to help keep the air clean and people and the environment healthy. (1)

Story Of An Hour Analysis
In her short story The Story of an Hour, Kate Chopin s brilliant use of words immediately captures the
reader s attention. There is no introduction of characters and no build up to this story. In the opening
sentence, Chopin introduces the readers to Louise Mallard and informs them of her heart condition.
Little do the readers know, this will be a huge factor at the end of the story. The readers also learn that
Louise s husband has died in a railroad accident. With the knowledge of these two events, Chopin
takes the reader on a journey with the widowed Louise Mallard in the last hour of her life with all the
conflicting emotions that go along with it.
Richards and Josephine think they must break the news of Brently s death to Louise as gently as
possible. Josephine tells her in broken sentences; veiled hints that revealed in half concealing.
However, Louise does not hear this news with the same emotions as most women would at the loss of
a loved one. Initially, She wept at once, with sudden, wild abandonment, in her sister s arms. When the
storm of grief had spent itself she went away to her room alone. This is the normal and expected
reaction. Suddenly, the mood of the story changes as Louise looks out an open window and observes
the tops of trees that were all aquiver with the new spring life. The delicious breath of rain was in the
air . Even Louise seemed to be confused as to what was happening. Now her bosom rose and fell
tumultuously. She was beginning to

Bullying In The Workplace
Bullying often associated with one kid being cruel to another kid, evolved beyond the playground, and

repeated, health harming mistreatment of one or more persons (the targets) by one or more

Subsequently, preventing workplace bullying means identifying and stopping the bully. More
importantly, individuals being bullied need to feel as if their issues and concerns matter, and dealt with

can have a voice. As Wiedmer (2011) remarks, policies, rules, and practices must be in place to make
workplaces safe and conducive for workers producing at peak levels. Furthermore, organization
policies should clearly address bullying with procedures for reporting, investigating and administering

chronicle the incident reports, steps taken, outcomes realized, and effectiveness of strategies
employed. At no point, should reported bullying be sugar coated or put off for another time. For that
reason, employee must have a person(s) they can go in the organization, whom they trust and who will

  • 2. The Fifth Season Sparknotes Okay, so this is how this is going to work... The deep book review will be split into different sections, one where I will dump a bunch of information about the storyline on the reader, another where I will rant about what makes this book deep but not good, and, finally, another about the author. The footnotes will be my way of interjecting Laszlo esque commentary on what would normally be a more formal piece of writing without drastically altering the formality of the review. Throughout the book, The Fifth Season changes from Syenite to Damaya to, finally, a character referred to as you (as you might expect, all chapters written from you s perspective are written in second person). As the book moves on, switching from character to character, similarities between Syenite and Damaya start to appear, until, chapter seventeen, when it is revealed Damaya is just a young Syenite. Towards the end, Syenite is revealed to be you (your name is Essun). So all along, when you thought you were reading the story of three different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Fifth Season is definitely interesting, however, I sort of enjoyed reading it because of its complexity, and, as it is part of a series, it has a sequel. This sequel gives you a glimpse into what is going on with Nassun and helps explain some stuff, namely, what the hell is happening. Well, Father Earth lost his favorite child, so, in an attempt to appease Father Earth, some of the stone eaters decided they should try and get his favorite child, the moon back. So, the book ends with Essun getting ready to catch the moon. Pure awesomeness aside, I feel like I liked it better when things were confusing. The second book, The Obelisk Gate, doesn t contain as many of the storyline scrambling mind blowing revelations that made the first one so interesting, so it has to rely mostly on storyline. This means it is a bit more enjoyable to read, but it doesn t contain any of the things that, in my mind, make The Fifth Season deep book ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Research Paper On Okinawa History of Okinawa (沖縄県) Okinawa or formally known as the Ryukyu kingdom is the most southern prefecture of Japan. Its capital Naha is located in the southern end of a chain of island that spans over 1000km including hundreds of small islands between Kyushu and Taiwan. The climates of the islands range from humid subtropical towards the northern end to tropical rainforest climates in the south. Of the hundreds of island, less than half are inhabited while much of the other island are coral reefs and too small to live on. Because of the lack of land and the difference in climate between the different islands, agriculture was a slow development from the 8th century to the 12th century. The Okinawa islands are not suited for wet rice farming as there are a lack of rivers and large lakes, which means it must rely on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to Okinawa s geographical advantage, it was a launch pad for covert missions over South East Asia. Growing tension between the people and the military highlighted the anti Vietnam war sentiment that connected the political views for the reversion of Okinawa to Japan (Morrocco). More controversy grew alleging the storage of Nuclear weapons on Okinawa and growing fears over the escalating Vietnam War as people perceived this as being a potential target for Communist China as they could feel threatened by the US military power. As more information leaked out the local population grew fear for the potential of a retaliation by the Chinese government (Mitchell). The Okinawa uprising, also known as the Koza riot was a violent and spontaneous protest against the US military personnel in Okinawa. This event which occurred on December 20, 1970 was symbolised as the Okinawan anger against the 25 years of military occupation. This was one of the many challenges that Okinawans faced ... • 4. Science DNA Technology Task 3 Poster DNA fingerprinting, also known as DNA profiling, is a technique used in forensic science that identifies individuals based on various characteristics of their DNA. Although the DNA sequences between humans are 99.9% identical, DNA fingerprinting is able to distinguish between individuals due to the presence of specific sequences within the non coding region of the genome known as satellite DNA. This satellite DNA consists of long stretches of DNA made up of repeating base sequences known as short tandem repeats (STR). These STRs considerably vary in length between individuals, particularly between unrelated individuals, allowing exact individuals to be identified. One major use of DNA fingerprinting is in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to the presence of negatively charged phosphate groups within the sugar phosphate backbone of DNA, the DNA fragments diffuse through the gel towards the anode. The smaller fragments are more able to penetrate through the gel and thus travel the furthest whereas the larger fragments travel a shorter distance. The exact size in bases for each separated fragment in a given sample of DNA can be determined by comparing each fragment against standard fragments of known length. This is commonly known as a ladder within the laboratory. For the purposes of a crime scene investigation, multiple DNA samples would be simultaneously run through the gel, Once separated, a DNA fragmentation pattern is produced that allows the criminal to be identified. As shown in the figure below, a DNA sample obtained from the crime scene is compared to two possible suspects. The pattern of suspect 1 more closely matches the pattern of the DNA obtained from the crime scene thus allowing the true criminal to be correctly identified. Similarly, for paternal testing, the DNA samples of the mother and child are compared to the potential fathers. The fragmentation pattern of the child should resemble both the mother and true father as half of child s alleles are inherited from the mother and father. Male 1 resembled the child s ... • 5. Sartre No Exit Essay Decisions, Decisions In Jean Paul Sartre s play No Exit, three different characters, Joseph Garcin, Inez Serrano and Estelle Rigault are portrayed together in hell. Although in hell for different reasons, the common thread that binds them is the fact that they all chose to make undeniably terrible decisions in their past lives. These characters unequivocally believed that the decisions they made while they were living, should not constitute their being sent to hell. They believed that the punishments that they received, hell, was inappropriate and not where they were supposed to be and at the very least, if in fact in hell, then they should be tormented in a proper manner, torture chamber style. However, based off of Sartre s portrayal of these character s life choices, how one lives their life and the decisions that they make, influence their destination, also known as existentialism, and further suggests that ... Existentialism, according to www.dictionary.com, is, A philosophical attitude associated especially with Heidegger, Jaspers, Marcel, and Sartre, and opposed to rationalism and empiricism, that stresses the individual s unique position as a self determining agent responsible for the authenticity of his or her choices. Sartre emphasis this philosophy of thinking, and living, explicitly and throughout his work, No Exit. The three different characters were responsible for their own choices in their lives which we saw. They believed they were in control of their own destination, and in fact on some level they were, and their actions did dictate their eternally reminder of their past, their forever and eternal present, and the unchanging future. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, the United States power was experienced across the globe. Business firms experienced immense growth making some owners excessively rich. On the other hand, the American people experienced unhappiness owing to some problems at home. Workers in the huge corporations did not experience considerable changes in their lives. Employees were subjected to severe working conditions, which were exposed by muckrakers among other people. Railroad charges for shipping crops were very high, which gave farmers immense problems. Increased immigration rates also caused numerous concerns with the need to reform the foreign ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sinclair exposed the presence of insects and rats in meat packing plants, which could have a significant effect on people s health. Some individuals in the federal government knew of the conditions in such plants but made no interventions. However, the publishing of the book The Jungle caused pressures from authorities, including President Roosevelt, which led to the enactment of the Meat Inspection Act. Other writers, such as Ida Tarbell, exposed unethical business competition techniques, such as that of the Standard Oil Company, which pushed competitors from the market. The unhealthy living conditions in the overcrowded slums were also exposed by writers. The New York s Wall Street was also targeted by some writers as few individuals controlled the flow of money in the entire nation. These writers were referred to as muckrakers. President Roosevelt compared them to people raking up the muck without doing any good (Cocks, Holloran, Lessoff, 2009). However, the muckrakers are recognized for exposing the ills that threatened to damage the United States society. The works of such writers also stimulated policymakers to seek alternative ways of doing things. • 7. Strategic Performance Analysis Of Delta, Southwest, And... Introduction: Developing a strategic performance plan for a company is only the first step. The plan must then be implemented and after a short period of time it must then be evaluated. This evaluation is key in determining if the strategic plan is not only effective but also efficient. After being presented with yearly data for the top three competitors, Delta, Southwest, and United Airlines, of the US airline industry, it was my goal to develop comparative performance metrics to find out how if the companies strategies are efficient in a financial standpoint. While I calculated all of the required metrics, only a few stood out to me as useful when evaluating the companies. Some of the key performance metrics that I computed are revenue per employee, accounts receivable turnover, current ratio, and return on assets. Revenue per employee Revenue per employee is a calculation that allows you see if the company is effectively utilizing its resources and also what their level of productivity is. Revenue per employee and productivity share a positive relationship so the higher the output, the better. After calculating each company s revenue per employee during the fiscal years 2005 to 2012, I calculated the average to make an overall comparison of the three. Delta Airlines came out on top with the highest revenue per employee and United Airlines with a close second. This shows that these three companies are staying relatively competitive with their productivity. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Rome And Han Comparison Essay Owen Timmy Group LEQ: Rome and Han Comparison By the second and third centuries C.E, trade routes were connecting many civilizations across the land and sea. These routes traded not only goods, but new beliefs and values as well. However, something malicious also spread through these trade routes: disease. Both the Roman and Han empires experienced imperial decline due to epidemic diseases spread by trade routes as well as conflicts with neighboring forces due to clashing beliefs, however the Han Empire faced more internal problems, whereas the Romans faced unrest from outside of the empire. During the second and third C.E, the trade routes at the time brought destructive diseases such as smallpox, measles, and the bubonic plague. It is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... China mainly faced internal struggles, while the Romans mainly faced problems from external sources. One problem was the aristocrats forming factions among each other, with each faction seeking to gain more power for itself, which weakened the central government. Another problem was the uneven distribution of land. Many landowners that possessed most of the land, were powerful figures in the government who shifted the tax burden onto peasants. This angered the peasants, who started the Yellow Turban Rebellion in 184 C.E. While the rebellion was unsuccessful in overthrowing the empire, the unhappiness of the peasants would later lead to many more uprisings. By 220 C.E, the emperor had no real political power and the Han generals abolished the empire and divided it into three large kingdoms. On the other hand, the Romans were faced with a massive empire that they struggled to manage. From 235 to 284 C.E, there were 26 different barrack emperors who controlled Rome. The position was unstable, and many of them were betrayed and killed. The Roman economy was also going downhill, and they were also faced with a population decline. These factors also created a lack of resources needed to protect the empire. China s internal problems were due to the peasants feeling like they were being mistreated; Rome s problems were due to its size and the population ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Comparative Essay On Hope A Comparative Essay on Hope In Troubled Times and Summary Written by Bob Goudswaard, David Van Heemst, and Mark Vander Vennen Hope in Troubled Times: A New Vision for Confronting Global Crises, is a compelling book that captures the attention of any reader especially when we live in such troubling times. The Forward was written by none other than Christian Leader Desmond Tutu who opposed the apartheid in South Africa. Despite the cheery title this book was no easy read what so ever. The book covered topics cush as Worldwide Poverty, Environmental Degradation and Widespread Terrorism, just to name a few. The authors of this book had an interesting approach to laying these topics out, going in to great detail. Writing from a more realist approach the authors claimed not to be optimist, which was evident and at times they seemed slightly pessimistic. Throughout the book the authors made excellent use of many of our cultural problems pointing out their ideological roots. But before they did that they took to time to explain in great lengths what ideology really is and how it came about. It is more than just the dictionary definition: the body of doctrine, myth or beliefs that guide an individual, social movement, institution, class, or large group (Dictionary.com). However, the explained how good ideas with good intentions and legitimate goals can over time become ideological without realizing it. Therefore, if we can identify which modules in software most probably to be defective it can help us to reduce our limited resources and time of development [2]. Based on the specific types of software metrics in the previous research studies, numbers of predictive classification model are proposed for software quality it can explore the defectives in some of the software modules by using several types of classifiers such as decision tree [3], SVM [4], ANN [5] and Naïve Bayes [6]. The classification model is one of the most common approaches used for early prediction of software defects [7], including two categories: Fault Prone (FP) software and Non Fault Prone (NFP) software. The prediction model represented by a set of code attribute or software metrics [7, 8]. The objective of this research is utilized ensemble learning method that combines the vote of multiple learner classifiers by using the different subset of feature to improve the accuracy of supervised learning. Another advantage of ensemble methods, it enhances the performance by using different types of classifiers together because it reduces the variance between them and keeps bias error rate without increasing. A shaft is drilled into the ground followed by a horizontal well hole that flows to the gas layer of the earth. The well is divided into smaller sections and these sections are fractured in sections. Fracking fluid (7 million litres of water is used, several thousand tonnes of sand and 200,000 tonnes of chemicals (de Rijke, 2013)) is then pumped into the ground at high velocity. The article, Inventing Historical Truth on the Silver Screen, by Robert Rosenstone, explains having a current perspective on history and how we interpret it. Written historical documents can only be backed up by truth so far. These films Amistad, 1776, and The Black Robe, can help form ideas of what might have happened, but that is what they are used for, to help mold and shape historical events to the present day. It is clear and obvious that slavery is wrong and never should have happened, but certain people decided differently. Of course we do not obtain video footage of such historical event and go off of verbal and written documentation, but the movie Amistad, goes into detail about how the slaves were treated. It was inhumane and they were treated worse than animals. They were captured, traded in from their own people, beaten, killed, raped, separated from families, forced to work and do things no one should ever have to go through. But for public purposes, it did not show everything they went through. The movie definitely softens certain clips for the reason of who might watch the film and for what they would be allowed to film and produce.
