Jonathan Watt s Defoe s Transition From Literary...
1a. According to Watt, Defoe s transition from literary traditionalism to true individual experience
mostly distinguishes Defoe from earlier writers. Defoe also rejects the traditional plot series, which
sets him apart from writers like Chaucer, Spenser, Shakespeare, and Milton, who accepted the general
premise of their times that, since Nature is essentially complete and unchanging in records, whether
scriptural, legendary or historical, constitute[s] a definitive repertoire of human experience (366).
Meaning that Defoe did not just reiterate plots from previous literature, which turn out to be
romanticized versions of historical legends and periods in history.
1b. I believe that Watt is accurate and that Defoe distinguishes his writing from others by making an
emphasis on the individual character. Most of the earlier writers based their prose around a test of faith
or trial that the protagonist either passes or fails. Most of these characters signify bigger themes, such
as Una in The Faerie Queen, who stood for the one true faith of England, and other characters were
based around significant people in feudal system such as Queen Elizabeth I, or Saint George: Patron
of England. Every part of the stories signified something more significant, whereas Defoe takes his
novel and tells the story of Moll Flanders.
2a. According to Watt, this dominant theory of the time period continued to incline toward the use of
traditional plots (367) in written works. Defoe s literary

Suffering In The Poems Of Wilfred Owen And Jane Weir
Both poems display suffering in similar ways; Both poems demonstrate the effects of war. Wilfred
Owen and Jane Weir are angry and frustrated about what has happened during and after the war.
Questions are a most common feature of both poems, they are designed to make the reader think. Both
writers make use of literary techniques to draw attention to especially important parts of the poems.
Even though they displayed suffering in similar ways they still used their own ideas and approaches;
Owen writes from the point of view of someone who was involved in the war. Weir writes about
mainly one soldier affected by the war.
Owen had joined the army in 1915 yet was hospitalized in May 1917 experiencing shell shock. Owen,
in the long run, came back to the war, however, was tragically killed days before the war finished. He
is currently thought of as one of Britain s most noteworthy war poets. `Exposure gives a direct image
of life in the trenches during WW1. By the winter of 1917, the two sides had huge losses of soldiers
and extremely frosty climate. It was said to be the coldest winter in living memory. Many troopes
created trench foot, an infection caused by feet being wet and frosty and in boots for days on end. The
image Owen created through descriptive words in the readers minds conflicted with the scenes
displayed by the British press.
In Jane Weir´s poem, Poppies the effect of conflict of people not in the military is explored. Poppies is
a personal reflection,

A Family Of Five Were The First Group Shot
A family of five were in the first group shot. A gray haired elderly woman cradled a baby. The child
couldn t have been more than three months old. She was singing and tickling the little one to keep her
from crying. The baby cooed with delight. Everyone was standing around with tears in their eyes.
A father holding the hand of his six year old spoke softly to him. The boy wept from fear. His father
stroked the boy s head and pointed to the skies. It was as though he was explaining something to him.
The machine guns opened up. They and others fell backward into the dry riverbed.
There was an elderly frail snow white haired woman. Others helped her undress to the shouts of the
insurgent s to hurry up. Two young women helped carry her to her place in line in front of the
makeshift grave.
A young couple held each other tightly. Their wedding day was the following weekend. Looking into
each other s eyes, the man spoke tenderly to her. He told her about how their families had arranged a
nearby hotel for their honeymoon. Now they lay together in a cold, uncaring hollow in the ground.
About thirty people at a time they led to the slaughter.
When the little girl s turn, came. As she made her way to the pit, she saw a mound of bodies tightly
wedged together. In the distance, she heard screams from other people being killed a little way away.
The terrorists dragged their blood covered bodies over to the riverbed and dumped them in on top of
the others.
The girl s mother tried to

Comparing The Girl Who Drank The Moon And The Lost Thing
Antain represents an orphan who is longing for a sense of belonging and who is resilient in his pursuit
to find it. These characteristics are exemplified in Shaun Tan s The Lost Thing (2010). Both Antain
and the lost thing lack belonging. They fail to find their niche. They do not fit in. They have no where
to go. They are too different. There are significant parallels between both characters in their pursuit for
belonging. Immediately, in The Girl Who Drank the Moon (2016) and The Lost Thing (2010), both
characters are portrayed as outcasts. They do fit in to the society that they have been situated. They are
too different. Antain ostracized more explicitly as his is continually bullied whereas the lost thing is
neglected and forgotten (Tan, 2010, p. 3). However, both characters lack a place where they belong
and are loved unconditionally. Antain and the lost thing both possess significant helpers. For Antain,
his helper, Ethyne, appears closer to the end of the novel. As his wife, she encourages him to pursue
his dreams and loves him. The lost thing has a young boy to guide him along his journey throughout
the entire story to find a place where he can belong (Tan, 2010, p.9). ... Show more content on

In both of these quests, the two characters find themselves needlessly wandering around as they do not
know the exact end to their quest. There is an element of uncertainty... will they find their place in
society or will their plans foil? However, in both stories, the characters end up confining and
protecting their belonging. For Antain, he goes out into the forest to kill the with in order to protect his
family his sense of belonging. Whereas, the lost thing becomes confined in another world that protects
those that are different, like him (Tan, 2010, p.

INTRODUCTION
Management has been proficient a long time period. Organized endeavors focused by people
accountable for planning, organizing, leading, and controlling undertakings have occurred for
thousands of years.
As the initial days of systematic commercial and structural study, philosophers have contended that
companies can understand aids using either more traditional or more modern management methods.
For example, Taylor, Weber and Fayol were well known societal researchers that advocated a
traditional management. They are the originators of organizational studies and started their theories in
the commencement of the 20th century at the establishment of the industrial era, directing on practical
features, capabilities, instructions and discipline within management (Mullins, 2007, Bloisi et al
2003). Now the world has advanced (multinationals, globalization, information technology) and
management articles and books seem to take an additional modern management method, focusing on
the lengthy period, human beings and the capability to unleash their abilities (Mullins, 2007). The
main focus of this paper is to understand the classical and modern approaches in terms of workplace

Flight 82181
Celebrity Airlines Flight 82181
Found on Celebrity Airlines Flight 82181 were a number of substances brought on by passengers.
Given that the crash was ruled a terrorist attack, identification of all substances found on and in the
bodies and luggages of the victims needed to be made. To do this, empirical and molecular formulas
were put into use when determining substance identities. Each substance was tested to find the percent
composition of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen, and then used to find the empirical formula of
the substance by using 100 grams of each substance to represent 100% made up by the elements
combined. The mass of each element in the substance calculated from the percent was then divided by
the molar mass of that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Victims number 6 and 10 were both found with matching substances, in their bloodstream and pocket,
respectively, composed of 75.42% carbon, 6.63% hydrogen, 8.38% nitrogen, and 9.57% oxygen
(Table 2). The steps described above to find the molecular formula were taken, and the molecular
formula was found to be C21H22N2O2, or strychnine, commonly known as rat poisoning, a substance
highly toxic to humans. From this data, it can be concluded that victim number 10 had murdered
victim number 6 with the strychnine, as it was found in victim 10 s pocket and victim 6 s bloodstream,
and anyone with any common knowledge or with the ability to read knows not to ingest rat poisoning,
making it obvious that victim 6 was murdered. To identify the two victims, any other substances found
on their person and in their personal luggage had to be identified and then matched with any prior
knowledge of the victims. Victim 6, the murder victim, was found two other substances:
C14H18N2O5 , aspartame, and C8H10N4O2 , caffeine, (page 7). Both of these two substances are
found in Diet Coke, something the mother of Miley Cyrus said she never travelled without, (page 8).
Furthermore, in the luggage of victim 10, a substance with the molecular formula of C12H17NO
(page 7), also known as DEET or insect repellent was found. Based off of this evidence, coupled with

Classical Liberalism Research Paper
Liberalism is generally differentiated into two categories which are classical liberalism and modern
liberalism. According to Heywood (2003), classical liberalism was the most primitive tradition which
nothing can surpass. The forming of the ideas of classical liberalism between the seventeenth to
nineteenth century was due to the disruption of feudalism in Europe followed by the reconstructed to
capitalism. However, modern liberalism is the advanced alternation from classical liberalism which is
based on its fundamental basis. This is one of the reasons that some people argued both classic and
modern liberalism are partly similar. Yet, this essay will be more focus on the discussion of the
distinction between classical liberalism and modern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Chernobyl Nuclear Reactor Meltdown Essay
The Chernobyl Nuclear Reactor Meltdown
April 26th 1986 marked the date of the worst nuclear accident to ever occur. Chernobyl, a nuclear
power plant in Russia was undergoing routine safety tests that envolved running the reactor on less
then full power, followed by a standard shut down. At Chernobyl s reactor number 4 a specific test
was designed to show that a coasting turbine could produce enough power to pump coolant through
the reactor core while waiting for electricity from diesel generators. During the test turbine feed valves
were closed to initiate turbine coasting, and automatic control rods were withdrawn from the core.
When the steam valves to the turbine close, the pressure in the reactor should go up causing the ...

All of the firemen died, either a result of the fire, or from breathing radioactive debris. Unfortunately,
their heroic attempts were useless, because the core of the reactor was exposed making the fire much
to hot for water to cool. The first thing the Russians did was try to cover up the accident. This turned
out to be impossible, considering the amounts of radioactive debris released into the air. Shortly after
the accident a nuclear power plant in Sweden measured high amounts of radioactivity in their area,
called the Russians to inquire if there had been an accident. The Russians shortly thereafter alerted the
press, and evacuated towns surrounding Chernobyl. This of course wasn t their biggest problem. They
needed to find the fuel that had escaped from the reactor in order to avoid another massive chain
reaction. This was a huge problem due to the extreme amounts of radioactivity inside the sarcophagus.
They didn t have the money for robots, so they sent in the Soviet Army. 3400 men were used on roof
runs in which they d go and collect samples from the roof of the reactor. During these missions
soldiers could be subjected to 20 Rankin s of radiation. Many people who have worked at Chernobyl
have died from sudden heart failure. The Russian government denies that this has anything to do with
their work at Chernobyl, but their have been too many deaths related to heart failure for it not to be.

Political Postcard Of Syracuse Cultural Workers By Randolf...
In the catalog, Syracuse Cultural Workers, a man named Randolf Smallwood created a political
postcard that could be seen as controversial. This postcard is meant to appeal to people with a critical
respective and it shows what their thoughts are about Conservatives. The artist uses bumper stickers to
portray the harsh truth what Conservatives support and what they believe in. Political parties often do
not agree on each other s views and this post card is an example of how they may bash each other to
show the points they disagree with. Using a bumper sticker was an interesting approach because many
people have them on their cars to show what candidate or party their supportive of, but these parodies
of bumper stickers reveal more than what they normally say. Everything on this postcard is placed
strategically and meant to portray a certain message. This postcard s main image shows a blue truck
with many colorful bumper stickers on the back of it. It is meant to represent the truthful way that
Conservatives think and what they believe in. We do not see the owner or driver of the truck in the
picture, but we can assume that he is a middle class, white male who supports rich and powerful
people. He does not drive a fancy, expensive car, but he then has a bumper sticker that says SAVE
OUR BILLIONAIRES . He may be in support of the conservatives because he hopes that one day he
will become rich and powerful himself. The postcard shows a medium shot of the car so it is

Civil disobedience spawns a major and widely debated issue by many who established by well known
intelligent scholars and many examples of civil disobedience become displayed. The acts of civil
disobedience can be noted in major works such as Sophocles?s Antigone, King?s ?Letter from
Birmingham Jail?, or even from Plato?s ?from Crito?. A specific claim exemplified throughout these
works make that civil disobedience races in gaining popularity and should remain allowed, and

The body referring to Antigone?s brother, this determination was to go against the law established by
Creon. When a particular law is poorly established, someone is bound to defy it. Namely, Antigone
was bound to break this law and disobey its authority. Credibility is also shown in ?from
Crito?; the prisoner who taught philosophy. Plato was imprisoned because he taught philosophy to
people and he is credible for not doing wrong. In King?s ?Letter from Birmingham Jail?, it is credible
because it is known that Martin Luther King Jr. is a very credible person in the civil rights movement.
Credibility strikes to be an important part of this claim.
The logical part of the rhetorical appeals refers mainly to the specific facts as evidence. From ?Letter
from Birmingham? a good logical claim, made by Martin Luther King Jr., supports and explains how
his race was treated as inferior and being persecuted. He utilizes examples of how racial injustice
became a huge problem. Antigone also provided facts for claims of civil disobedience and of how she
was opposed to the law of leaving her brother left without a proper burial. The quotation ?After those
terrible threats of yours, kings, we brushed the dust away from the body.? This quotation refers and
explains how Antigone had originally buried the body and the guard had uncovered it. There isn?t
much logical appeal in the work ?from Crito?.

Application Essay To Graduate High School
In June of 2015, I achieved my greatest personal achievement to date; I graduated high school.
Graduations are a rite of passage in our culture. Hallmark even has an entire section of cards dedicated
to the occasion. For me personally, graduating high school ignited an orb of hope and positivity within
me that allows me to reflect upon the numerous years of my education as a journey with both peaks
and valleys. High school was a valley that required me to attain new levels of determination and
perseverance. I can vividly remember running up to my guidance counselor after the ceremony to
thank her and just repeating, I did it! in a state of euphoria or incredulity at my own accomplishment.
For most of my high school career I did not believe that I would live to see the class of 2015 graduate
let alone graduate with them.
Following the sense of pride my high school graduation instilled in me, I made a decision to go to
college with purpose and began truly envisioning and planning for my future. It was after I graduated
high school that I decided upon becoming a teacher. A lot of this decision stemmed from my thoughts
on graduation night. I remember thinking of the teachers who supported and shaped me throughout
my education. I remembered my third grade teacher who once told me in secret that I was one of her
most talented students and helped me to recognize my own abilities. I remembered my strict Spanish
teacher in high school who pushed me to focus on my

The Masque Of The Red Death Essay
In Edgar Allan Poe s The Mask of the Red Death is a magnificent story and also a suspenseful story. It
will brings chills to the body when reading the story. The Mask of the Red Death is about a prince
named Prospero who brings in his friends into a abbey where he thinks the red death can not enter. He
decided to have a party and a stranger with a mask was at the party and look quite dead.
Unfortunately, the prince then finds out that the red death was inside the abbey. Poe s story of the red
death works because of the choices he makes as a writer. In The Mask of the Red Death There are
different elements of author s craft that was used to make an effective story. The element of imagery
was use in many different ways to make The Mask of the Red Death an effective story. Edgar Allan
Poe described the stranger in the mask as he was dead. Died each in the despairing posture of his fall

seventh room. The seventh room was covered with blood. One by one dropped the resellers in the

Windows 8.1 vs Maverick
Windows 8.1 versus Mac Maverick OS
1) Multi tasking
Microsoft leads over OS X with 8.1 by allowing users to run up to four apps on the screen at once.
You can t even snap two windows side by side on OS X Mavericks. Just as important, you can now
snap two Modern apps side by side and have them both take up half of the screen. Multitasking on OS
X Mavericks hasn t improved much. For the most part, OS X is best for unitasking because of its
ability to run many apps at full screen.
Winner: Windows 8.1. An improved Snap function makes Microsoft s OS the better bet for
multitaskers.

Everything gets encrypted and pushed to your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
Winner: Windows 8.1 The accessibility of files from more types of devices and improved integration.

The choice between OS X and Windows has always been fairly simple for those on a tight budget. If
you don t want to spend $999 or more on a new notebook, a Mac isn t the right choice for you. But
when it comes to the overall experience on comparable hardware, the choice becomes more difficult.
Windows 8.1 builds upon the touch friendly strengths of Windows 8 while better catering to desktop
users. This OS is better at multitasking than OS X Mavericks, and SkyDrive is more robust than
iCloud. OS X Mavericks isn t all that ambitious a release compared to the upcoming iOS 7, but it does
beat Windows 8.1 in many key categories. While not as dynamic, Mavericks interface is easier to use
because there aren t two competing environments (desktop and tablet). Mavericks also does a better
job with notifications and search, as well as social sharing. Do we wish Apple would

The Elizabethan Poor Law
The Elizabethan Poor Law was passed in 1601 as a state response to the dire need of the poor in
British North America and acted as measures for the relief of destitution (Fowle, 1881, p.55).
Previously, the Catholic Church was Britain s state church, but on the decision of Henry VIII, the state
would become the source of aid for the poor (Finkel, 2006). Simultaneously, the feudal system was
winding down in England along with the societal norm that serfs were the responsibility of landlords
so as the textile industry grew, tenants were evicted to create space for sheep due to the demand for
their wool (Finkel, 2006). As the changes in structures and industry took place, Finkel (2006) notes

A formal eligibility system would be enacted to establish who were the poor in very deed and the
Elizabethan Poor Law would be born.
Poor Laws, Politics, and Ideologies
Fowle (1881) notes that at no time were the vagrancy laws more severe or more severely administered
than in the reign of Henry VIII and this was also a time of great social and religious hardship (p. 56).
The change in the role of the Church in terms of aiding the poor as well as the decline of the English
feudal system, and the growing textile industry, created an increasing number of poor and the need for
inexpensive labour. With the varying societal changes as well as the shifting relationship between
Church and state, inevitably this caused a strain between labour and profit. The ideas which influenced
the Poor Law were that of a laissez faire style government, the idea of less eligibility , and the
principle of the perception of needs . It was deemed that state aided workers should earn less than
privately employed workers...so as to avoid any upward pressures on wages in the private sector
(Finkel, 2006, p. 50). The discrepancy between the wages of state labourers and privately employed
workers was supported by the laissez faire government as well as neoliberalist ideals. There was also

Women s Rights For Disabled Women Essay
(ii) From MacMurchy to Galton, sterilisation to technological innovations, rights for women to rights
for disabled women , the stigmatisation of disabled families has long been a complex of systemic
alienation and destruction: mental defect is the chief cause of immorality and venereal discourse (Dr.
MacMurchy 1910) . Disabled families are viewed in quantitative measures of lack and qualitative
markers of excess in the notion of sexual citizenship. The establishment of new exclusionary
normative caught up in an inappropriate neo liberal agenda (Shildrick 2014, 135). Corrective
discourses dominate discursive approaches to directing the disabled family agency towards normative
measures of ability, competence, and capacity. Fundamentally a heterosexist framework (135),
nebulous family models consist of able bodied ideality demarcating socio economic relation. The
nuclear family stands as a symbolic representation of what an ideal form of national identity should
consist of: cultural attitudes which value individualism and competition above social support and the
recognition of a diversity of individual needs (Wilde Hoskison Clark 2014, 56). Socio economic
circumstances lead to attitudinal environments where class became a socio cultural marker for
prohibiting inappropriate family form . Therein, rigid attributes of masculinity and femininity, in a sex
gender system, pivot domesticate marital roles. Family modes of behaviour are juxtaposed to a

messages. An allegory is a story, poem or a picture which can be interpreted to reveal a hidden
meaning. While reading Steinbeck s book I noticed different metaphors such as the usage of animals
and Curley s wife. Throughout the whole book the reader can notice many animals mentioned such as
rabbits, mice, the puppy and the old dog. Curley s wife is also a sort of symbol. She represents the
way in which the women were treated and looked upon in those days. The animals and Curley s wife
all symbolize different things in life in the 1930 s USA. They all symbolize the hopes and the dreams
that the characters share which motivates and drives them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Saying that the rabbits should be furry, fluffy and colorful makes their life even more padded and
warm, which protects them from the tough world at that time. The animals are a great way to show
and symbolize different things. To find the allegorical meaning you only have to look in between the
lines to find a different meaning to the words and sayings. This can be seen in the case of Curley s
wife. By looking more closely at the story, one can see that Curley s wife is also a metaphor which
symbolizes the way which other people looked upon women in the society of the 1930 s. Curley s wife
represents a whole marginalized group in the American society at that time. In the novel, characters
are never fully developed, but instead appear as outlines or symbols of real people. Candy, Crooks,
and Curley s wife represent the discriminated groups of age, race, and sex. Curley s wife has been
given an overall picture in the eyes of George and Lennie before they even meet her, by Candy. The
picture Candy paints about her hints at how she tends to give all the men on the ranch the eye .
Nobody really knows Curley s wife because nobody ever talks to her and listens to what she really has
to say. Curley s wife wants attention. She wants people to notice her. She is the only woman on the
ranch out of all the men. She wears fancy clothes and nice make up to make her look beautiful and

Japan And India Dbq Essay
Throughout the late 1800s to the early 1900s, both japan and India saw a rise in the use of machines in
the textile industry. Both showed similar recruitment techniques, but were not so similar in who the
workers were and their working conditions.
The Indian textiles chart showed how India used machines to produce greater yarn and cloth amounts
in 1914 as compared to the production in 1884. As well it demonstrated how the amount of people
using machine made textiles had greatly increased opposed to hand made textiles (Doc 1). In 1916
Radhakamal Mukerjee, an Indian economist, explains how that handwoven textiles cannot keep up
with the machine made textiles, and therefore is on a decline (Doc 6). This identifies how India is

The story of a Japanese factory worker illustrates the harsh long hours fork work, no heat, and small
portions of food. On top of that they were not paid much or at all for the first year of their work (Doc

the Japanese textile factories seem barely livable. In contrast the Indian factory workers lived in their
own huts and worked for only two years (Doc 9). This shows much better living conditions for Indian
workers than Japanese workers. Since the document is written by a commissioner not a worker, the
author could be leaving out bad details to make his report look

Roman Architecture
The Greek and Roman empires existed during the same time, which was about 2500 years ago. They
were practically neighbors with Rome developing in Italy and the Greeks in Greece. The the Romans
learned about Greek culture when Greek colonies established towns in southern Italy. The Romans
were influenced by Greek writing, art, religion, and architecture. Greek architecture had an influence
on the development of Ancient Rome because the Romans used Greek materials, Greek designs and

Two Major Themes In Poetic Realism
Isolation and fatalism are two major themes in this film. the main characters are trapped and they try
hard to escape the current situations. The army deserter heading for the port of Le Havre, Jean is on
the run from a society run by a criminal underworld. His solitary figure associates with the fog in the
opening shot of the film. What he faces was fatal since he had no choices. He could only run away;
otherwise, his life would be in danger. A 17 year old abused girl, Nelly who is trapped by her
godfather, Zabel tries to run away from him. In the beginning of the film, Jean and Nelly are used to
be isolated by the society. Both are not connected with other people. It is not surprising that they want
to escape from the current traps later ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Zabel is a respectable businessman who loves religious music and the finer. However, there is a
shameful and jealous heart hides in his body that he lusts for his goddaughter Nelly. This is a rather
immoral theme shown in Quai des brumes. Moreover, Poetic Realism films focus on working class
characters and the theme of doomed love, which is the blending of comedy and tragedy. Compared to
Naturalism, poetic realism had a more romantic, idealistic, mysterious character.(Linda Nochlin,
Realism) It shows that the characters in Poetic Realism are usually marginal characters in the society.
Jean undoubtedly represents the marginal characters in the society. He carries a national identity,
which is the army in 1930s and represents the lower class in the society. When he meets the beautiful
girl, Nelly, these two fall in love immediately and passionately.Nelly says. They have real happiness
and the love is shared, but in this film s bleak world it is inevitably going to be dearly bought.
Therefore, their love is romantic but at the same time, it is also a tragic. The only way Jean can be
with Nelly is if he deals with the corrupt men that are causing troubles for her. Unfortunately, it turns
out to be a tragic end for the

Statistics and Decision-Making in Hrm
STATISTICS AND DECISION MAKING IN HRM
(word count 1155)
The word statistics has a Latin origin where the word status means state. Statistics is defined as the
science that helps us understand how to collect, organize and interpret numbers or other information
(data) about some topic (Bennett, et al., 2003). It is a discipline of data collection and summarizing to
aid understanding and decision making. It is also concerned with evaluation of the present status and
predicting the future (Stockberger, 1996). Statistics studies the nature of a relationship between two or
more variables of interest by using the numerical statistical data. Moreover only statistics makes it
possible to analyze these relationships (Kachigan, 1986).

From the company management perspective statistics help managers to convert data into information
which enables to accept informed decisions (Levin and Rubin, 1997). Thus statistics helps to manage
the organizational functions in a company. Such management science procedures as project evaluation
and review techniques and critical path method help to control and plan not only company projects
and initiatives but take adequate people related decisions belonging to the functional area of Human
Resource Management. HRM function involves activities such as recruitment, training, performance
assessment, reward and motivation. Productivity of these activities to a great extent is predetermined
by the wide use of statistical tools. By using statistics, HR forecasts the needs in terms of required
number of employees and their level of qualification. For the recruitment of new staff the tests are
conducted to assess the candidates on merit basis. Validity of various HR tests can be assessed by
means of statistical tools. Statistical analysis of test results helps to reveal deficiencies in employee
training programs and to assess the compensation program to determine whether they are reliable and
support the organisation s performance objectives. Regular employee performance appraisals based on
statistical methods are important for making HR decisions regarding compensation and promotion.

Analysis of Frankenstein From Shelley s Novel to Branagh s...
Analysis of Frankenstein From Shelley s Novel to Branagh s Film
Branagh s adaptation of Mary Shelly s novel was fairly good with significant changes to Shelly s text;
however this was done to illuminate what he considers to be the major themes of the novel, eg the
dangers of the relentless pursuit of science and Victor s relationships.
Victors love interest with Elizabeth in the film is much more intense compared to what is described in
the novel as communication is mostly through letters, whereas in the film Branagh has Elizabeth
follow him left, right and centre, she even comes to his sick bed after the creation. This however is for
the interest of the audience as many people enjoy love ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As in Shelley s novel victors reaction is the beauty of the dream vanished and disgust filled my heart ,
but Branaghs film attempts to address why he abandons the monster and also how close Victor was to
his family. This makes it even more triadic to bare witness to their deaths, especially when the
distraught Elizabeth is seen carrying Williams s lifeless body, the thunderstorm also sets the scene and
makes the audience feel hatred for the monster and despair for Victor and his family.
Branagh showed the misery of the monster, especially when it was rejected by the De Lacy family but
I think Branagh was very much one sided on where our sympathies should lie and this was clearly
directed towards Victor, this maybe because Branagh is the director as well as Victor. I think Branagh
should have portrayed one aspect of the book in more detail and that is the eloquence of the creature.
Having Clerval stay alive also seems to serve a purpose, this meant they Victors conscience was there
to observe what he did to Elizabeth. Also having Justine killed in that manner made it seem more
painful for Victor as he did not even have a court case as an attempt to save her innocent life. I think
Helena Carter made a good Elizabeth as she portrayed the characters beauty; however she was a bit
boisterous for that particular

The Importance Of Bilingualism On Child Development
Due to the increased migration and globalization, the shift in linguistic demographics and the advent
of multiculturalism sparked researchers interest to investigate the cognitive mechanism behind
bilingualism. Whether bilingualism has significant imprint on the development is still premature to
conclude with absolute certainty. However, with rich theoretical background, growing number of
empirical evidence supports the undeniable perk of bilingualism in various realms of cognitive
development. Despite the on going debate over the benefit of bilingualism, bilingualism became an
emerging topic among researchers and scholars like Ellen Bialystok, Stephanie Carlson, and Albert
Costa have been conducting research exploring the mechanism of bilingualism and executive
functions. After all, Vygotsky also argued that bilingualism may have positive impact on human mind
(Vygotsky, 1962). On the one hand, patterning, an ability to extract the underlying rule of a sequence
and to predict by applying the rule, is a highly endorsed and utilized skill that received relatively low
attention from researchers. Surprisingly little is known about the mechanism behind the patterning and
its cognitive impact, and yet the educators and policy makers have implemented patterning instruction
for last several decades. Patterning has not been widely studied in the field of developmental
psychology despite of the importance. Vast majority of the literature comes from mathematics

school in America. Why is that? , you may ask, why him? Why is his rebellion significant in American
history? . Bacon s rebellion used to be seen as the start of the American Revolution, but now, modern
historians have uncovered the truth of the Virginian Rebellion of 1676. Historians have found out that
the real issue that caused Nathaniel Bacon s rebellion was his stubbornness and selfishness. People
may specifically point fingers to a number of reasons for Bacon s rebellion, they may include the

The situation became a crisis when, the colonists decided to fight back and made the grave mistake of
attacking the wrong Indians, which caused many more Native American attacks to take place. To
prevent future attacks, Governor Berkeley ordered an investigation into the issue. He set up what was
to be a disaster of a meeting between the Indians and himself, which resulted in the murders of several
tribal chiefs. Berkeley tried to be rational with Nathaniel Bacon and the other rebels. However, Bacon
ignored the governor and continued his terrible actions against the Native Americans. Then Berkeley
approached Bacon and told him how disappointed he was in him, which caused the Virginians to
wonder who was right. The governor, Berkeley, attempted to find a compromise. His goal was to
maintain the friendship and loyalty that he had with the Indians. To make sure that they had loyalty
between themselves Berkeley called the Long Assembly in March 1676. Despite being thought to be
corrupt, the assembly declared war on all bad Indians and set up a strong defensive zone around
Virginia. The Long Assembly was accused to being corrupt because they traded with the Indians. Most
of the traders were friends of the governor Berkeley The Indian wars, which came from this made

Computer Programmer Pierre Omidyar Established Ebay Inc.
In 1995 computer programmer Pierre Omidyar established eBay Inc. (eBay) from his living room in
San Jose, California. He created a simple prototype of an auction site on his personal website and
called it Auction Web, then let people list items for auction. He was amazed at the number of buyers
and sellers that his site attracted and he soon had to set up a separate site devoted to auctions. By
charging sellers for posting their auction items, and taking a small percentage of each sale, the
company made money simply by supplying a place for buyers and sellers to meet. Business grew
through word of mouth. A Feedback Forum was added to allow buyers and sellers a way to rate each
other for honesty and reliability. Branching out from collectibles, the site quickly expanded into a vast
range of items, including electronics, home furnishings and appliances, and cars and other vehicles. In
1996, Omidyar hired Jeff Skoll as his first employee and the company s first president. Skoll is
credited with writing a business plan that took eBay from a start up to a sensational success. In 1996,
Auction Web hosted 250,000 auctions. In the first month of 1997, it hosted two million. Omidyar
changed the company s name to eBay in 1997. In 1998 former Hasbro executive Meg Whitman was
hired to serve as president and CEO. Whitman brought on a diverse management team with

  • 2. Jonathan Watt s Defoe s Transition From Literary... 1a. According to Watt, Defoe s transition from literary traditionalism to true individual experience mostly distinguishes Defoe from earlier writers. Defoe also rejects the traditional plot series, which sets him apart from writers like Chaucer, Spenser, Shakespeare, and Milton, who accepted the general premise of their times that, since Nature is essentially complete and unchanging in records, whether scriptural, legendary or historical, constitute[s] a definitive repertoire of human experience (366). Meaning that Defoe did not just reiterate plots from previous literature, which turn out to be romanticized versions of historical legends and periods in history. 1b. I believe that Watt is accurate and that Defoe distinguishes his writing from others by making an emphasis on the individual character. Most of the earlier writers based their prose around a test of faith or trial that the protagonist either passes or fails. Most of these characters signify bigger themes, such as Una in The Faerie Queen, who stood for the one true faith of England, and other characters were based around significant people in feudal system such as Queen Elizabeth I, or Saint George: Patron of England. Every part of the stories signified something more significant, whereas Defoe takes his novel and tells the story of Moll Flanders. 2a. According to Watt, this dominant theory of the time period continued to incline toward the use of traditional plots (367) in written works. Defoe s literary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Suffering In The Poems Of Wilfred Owen And Jane Weir Both poems display suffering in similar ways; Both poems demonstrate the effects of war. Wilfred Owen and Jane Weir are angry and frustrated about what has happened during and after the war. Questions are a most common feature of both poems, they are designed to make the reader think. Both writers make use of literary techniques to draw attention to especially important parts of the poems. Even though they displayed suffering in similar ways they still used their own ideas and approaches; Owen writes from the point of view of someone who was involved in the war. Weir writes about mainly one soldier affected by the war. Owen had joined the army in 1915 yet was hospitalized in May 1917 experiencing shell shock. Owen, in the long run, came back to the war, however, was tragically killed days before the war finished. He is currently thought of as one of Britain s most noteworthy war poets. `Exposure gives a direct image of life in the trenches during WW1. By the winter of 1917, the two sides had huge losses of soldiers and extremely frosty climate. It was said to be the coldest winter in living memory. Many troopes created trench foot, an infection caused by feet being wet and frosty and in boots for days on end. The image Owen created through descriptive words in the readers minds conflicted with the scenes displayed by the British press. In Jane Weir´s poem, Poppies the effect of conflict of people not in the military is explored. Poppies is a personal reflection, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Family Of Five Were The First Group Shot A family of five were in the first group shot. A gray haired elderly woman cradled a baby. The child couldn t have been more than three months old. She was singing and tickling the little one to keep her from crying. The baby cooed with delight. Everyone was standing around with tears in their eyes. A father holding the hand of his six year old spoke softly to him. The boy wept from fear. His father stroked the boy s head and pointed to the skies. It was as though he was explaining something to him. The machine guns opened up. They and others fell backward into the dry riverbed. There was an elderly frail snow white haired woman. Others helped her undress to the shouts of the insurgent s to hurry up. Two young women helped carry her to her place in line in front of the makeshift grave. A young couple held each other tightly. Their wedding day was the following weekend. Looking into each other s eyes, the man spoke tenderly to her. He told her about how their families had arranged a nearby hotel for their honeymoon. Now they lay together in a cold, uncaring hollow in the ground. About thirty people at a time they led to the slaughter. When the little girl s turn, came. As she made her way to the pit, she saw a mound of bodies tightly wedged together. In the distance, she heard screams from other people being killed a little way away. The terrorists dragged their blood covered bodies over to the riverbed and dumped them in on top of the others. The girl s mother tried to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Comparing The Girl Who Drank The Moon And The Lost Thing Antain represents an orphan who is longing for a sense of belonging and who is resilient in his pursuit to find it. These characteristics are exemplified in Shaun Tan s The Lost Thing (2010). Both Antain and the lost thing lack belonging. They fail to find their niche. They do not fit in. They have no where to go. They are too different. There are significant parallels between both characters in their pursuit for belonging. Immediately, in The Girl Who Drank the Moon (2016) and The Lost Thing (2010), both characters are portrayed as outcasts. They do fit in to the society that they have been situated. They are too different. Antain ostracized more explicitly as his is continually bullied whereas the lost thing is neglected and forgotten (Tan, 2010, p. 3). However, both characters lack a place where they belong and are loved unconditionally. Antain and the lost thing both possess significant helpers. For Antain, his helper, Ethyne, appears closer to the end of the novel. As his wife, she encourages him to pursue his dreams and loves him. The lost thing has a young boy to guide him along his journey throughout the entire story to find a place where he can belong (Tan, 2010, p.9). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For Antain, he goes out into the forest to kill the with in order to protect his family his sense of belonging. Given that the crash was ruled a terrorist attack, identification of all substances found on and in the bodies and luggages of the victims needed to be made. To do this, empirical and molecular formulas were put into use when determining substance identities. Each substance was tested to find the percent composition of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen, and then used to find the empirical formula of the substance by using 100 grams of each substance to represent 100% made up by the elements combined. Victims number 6 and 10 were both found with matching substances, in their bloodstream and pocket, respectively, composed of 75.42% carbon, 6.63% hydrogen, 8.38% nitrogen, and 9.57% oxygen (Table 2). The steps described above to find the molecular formula were taken, and the molecular formula was found to be C21H22N2O2, or strychnine, commonly known as rat poisoning, a substance highly toxic to humans. From this data, it can be concluded that victim number 10 had murdered victim number 6 with the strychnine, as it was found in victim 10 s pocket and victim 6 s bloodstream, and anyone with any common knowledge or with the ability to read knows not to ingest rat poisoning, making it obvious that victim 6 was murdered. To identify the two victims, any other substances found on their person and in their personal luggage had to be identified and then matched with any prior knowledge of the victims. Victim 6, the murder victim, was found two other substances: C14H18N2O5 , aspartame, and C8H10N4O2 , caffeine, (page 7). Both of these two substances are found in Diet Coke, something the mother of Miley Cyrus said she never travelled without, (page 8). Chernobyl, a nuclear power plant in Russia was undergoing routine safety tests that envolved running the reactor on less then full power, followed by a standard shut down. At Chernobyl s reactor number 4 a specific test was designed to show that a coasting turbine could produce enough power to pump coolant through the reactor core while waiting for electricity from diesel generators. During the test turbine feed valves were closed to initiate turbine coasting, and automatic control rods were withdrawn from the core. All of the firemen died, either a result of the fire, or from breathing radioactive debris. Unfortunately, their heroic attempts were useless, because the core of the reactor was exposed making the fire much to hot for water to cool. The first thing the Russians did was try to cover up the accident. This turned out to be impossible, considering the amounts of radioactive debris released into the air. Shortly after the accident a nuclear power plant in Sweden measured high amounts of radioactivity in their area, called the Russians to inquire if there had been an accident. The Russians shortly thereafter alerted the press, and evacuated towns surrounding Chernobyl. This of course wasn t their biggest problem. They needed to find the fuel that had escaped from the reactor in order to avoid another massive chain reaction. This was a huge problem due to the extreme amounts of radioactivity inside the sarcophagus. They didn t have the money for robots, so they sent in the Soviet Army. 3400 men were used on roof runs in which they d go and collect samples from the roof of the reactor. During these missions soldiers could be subjected to 20 Rankin s of radiation. Many people who have worked at Chernobyl have died from sudden heart failure. • 11. Political Postcard Of Syracuse Cultural Workers By Randolf... In the catalog, Syracuse Cultural Workers, a man named Randolf Smallwood created a political postcard that could be seen as controversial. This postcard is meant to appeal to people with a critical respective and it shows what their thoughts are about Conservatives. The artist uses bumper stickers to portray the harsh truth what Conservatives support and what they believe in. Political parties often do not agree on each other s views and this post card is an example of how they may bash each other to show the points they disagree with. Using a bumper sticker was an interesting approach because many people have them on their cars to show what candidate or party their supportive of, but these parodies of bumper stickers reveal more than what they normally say. Everything on this postcard is placed strategically and meant to portray a certain message. This postcard s main image shows a blue truck with many colorful bumper stickers on the back of it. It is meant to represent the truthful way that Conservatives think and what they believe in. We do not see the owner or driver of the truck in the picture, but we can assume that he is a middle class, white male who supports rich and powerful people. He does not drive a fancy, expensive car, but he then has a bumper sticker that says SAVE OUR BILLIONAIRES . Plato was imprisoned because he taught philosophy to people and he is credible for not doing wrong. In King?s ?Letter from Birmingham Jail?, it is credible because it is known that Martin Luther King Jr. is a very credible person in the civil rights movement. Hallmark even has an entire section of cards dedicated to the occasion. For me personally, graduating high school ignited an orb of hope and positivity within me that allows me to reflect upon the numerous years of my education as a journey with both peaks and valleys. High school was a valley that required me to attain new levels of determination and perseverance. I can vividly remember running up to my guidance counselor after the ceremony to thank her and just repeating, I did it! in a state of euphoria or incredulity at my own accomplishment. For most of my high school career I did not believe that I would live to see the class of 2015 graduate let alone graduate with them. Following the sense of pride my high school graduation instilled in me, I made a decision to go to college with purpose and began truly envisioning and planning for my future. It was after I graduated high school that I decided upon becoming a teacher. A lot of this decision stemmed from my thoughts on graduation night. I remember thinking of the teachers who supported and shaped me throughout my education. • 19. The Elizabethan Poor Law The Elizabethan Poor Law was passed in 1601 as a state response to the dire need of the poor in British North America and acted as measures for the relief of destitution (Fowle, 1881, p.55). Previously, the Catholic Church was Britain s state church, but on the decision of Henry VIII, the state would become the source of aid for the poor (Finkel, 2006). Simultaneously, the feudal system was winding down in England along with the societal norm that serfs were the responsibility of landlords so as the textile industry grew, tenants were evicted to create space for sheep due to the demand for their wool (Finkel, 2006). The change in the role of the Church in terms of aiding the poor as well as the decline of the English feudal system, and the growing textile industry, created an increasing number of poor and the need for inexpensive labour. With the varying societal changes as well as the shifting relationship between Church and state, inevitably this caused a strain between labour and profit. The ideas which influenced the Poor Law were that of a laissez faire style government, the idea of less eligibility , and the principle of the perception of needs . It was deemed that state aided workers should earn less than privately employed workers...so as to avoid any upward pressures on wages in the private sector (Finkel, 2006, p. 50). Women s Rights For Disabled Women Essay (ii) From MacMurchy to Galton, sterilisation to technological innovations, rights for women to rights for disabled women , the stigmatisation of disabled families has long been a complex of systemic alienation and destruction: mental defect is the chief cause of immorality and venereal discourse (Dr. MacMurchy 1910) . Disabled families are viewed in quantitative measures of lack and qualitative markers of excess in the notion of sexual citizenship. The establishment of new exclusionary normative caught up in an inappropriate neo liberal agenda (Shildrick 2014, 135). Corrective discourses dominate discursive approaches to directing the disabled family agency towards normative measures of ability, competence, and capacity. Fundamentally a heterosexist framework (135), nebulous family models consist of able bodied ideality demarcating socio economic relation. The nuclear family stands as a symbolic representation of what an ideal form of national identity should consist of: cultural attitudes which value individualism and competition above social support and the recognition of a diversity of individual needs (Wilde Hoskison Clark 2014, 56). Socio economic circumstances lead to attitudinal environments where class became a socio cultural marker for prohibiting inappropriate family form .
