Research Into
Target Audience
By Ana Vasilescu
Introduction
In order to fulfill project criteria and to successfully design and produce a
desired magazine, I had to carry out primary research. The sole purpose of
this primary research was to mainly identify the potential target audience and
their desires, needs and wants in regards to the fashion magazine. Using
SurveyMonkey, which is an online program, i have created a questionnaire
with specific set of questions which will enable me to produce a magazine.
Target Audience Questionnaire
Survey Analysis
I started of the survey by finding out who my
general audience was, and how i should address
them. Finding out their age group and gender
would also give me an insight into what i would
mainly write about.
From the results I would be addressing an
audience of mainly 18 to 24-year-olds which are
mainly made up of women
Within this questions i have identified that the potential target audience does purchase
fashion magazines, therefore there is a market for similar print products which i intend to
design and make.
The following questions were to determine
my readers interests. This would help me
determine what i should focus my articles on
so that my target audience would actively
read the magazine.
These results showed that i should focus
mainly on “Models’ Lives”; Styling Clothes and
Up-and-Coming Designers. Along with the
fact that most of my readers abstract art.
Next I was interested on finding out
that format of writing which my target
audience was interested in. I also
wanted to see whether my readers
wanted the magazine to be strictly on
fashion or whether I should branch out
into other topics.
From the results I have deduced that my readers
would enjoy interview/exposes of important
people in the fashion industry.
Along with the fact that they would enjoy reading
different real-world stories among the fashion-
related spreads.
The following question was asked so that I
could determine whether the target
audience wanted the magazine to have a
running colour scheme, or if they would
rather see something different each issue.
From the results of this question we can
observe that the readers would enjoy a diverse
and new theme every month.
I wanted to know which magazines my
audience was already reading. This way I
would get a rough idea of what my readers
enjoy to see
These results have shown that mostly my
readers enjoy Vogue magazine.
Lastly I wanted to know whether my
readers would enjoy receiving freebies or
have opportunities to enter contests and
giveaways.
From the results I have concluded that my
readers would enjoy these kinds of
opportunities.

Research Into Target Audience

  • 2. Introduction In order to fulfill project criteria and to successfully design and produce a desired magazine, I had to carry out primary research. The sole purpose of this primary research was to mainly identify the potential target audience and their desires, needs and wants in regards to the fashion magazine. Using SurveyMonkey, which is an online program, i have created a questionnaire with specific set of questions which will enable me to produce a magazine.

Finding out their age group and gender would also give me an insight into what i would mainly write about. From the results I would be addressing an audience of mainly 18 to 24-year-olds which are mainly made up of women
  • 8. Within this questions i have identified that the potential target audience does purchase fashion magazines, therefore there is a market for similar print products which i intend to design and make.
  • 9. The following questions were to determine my readers interests. This would help me determine what i should focus my articles on so that my target audience would actively read the magazine. These results showed that i should focus mainly on “Models’ Lives”; Styling Clothes and Up-and-Coming Designers. Along with the fact that most of my readers abstract art.

I also wanted to see whether my readers wanted the magazine to be strictly on fashion or whether I should branch out into other topics. From the results I have deduced that my readers would enjoy interview/exposes of important people in the fashion industry. Along with the fact that they would enjoy reading different real-world stories among the fashion- related spreads.

This way I would get a rough idea of what my readers enjoy to see These results have shown that mostly my readers enjoy Vogue magazine. Lastly I wanted to know whether my readers would enjoy receiving freebies or have opportunities to enter contests and giveaways. From the results I have concluded that my readers would enjoy these kinds of opportunities.

She loves being informed of real-world issues and going to museums in her free time. She thinks that her style is high fashion and a little vintage. Anytime she gets pocket money from her parents she usually saves up to buy fashion magazines and up-market clothes.
