Eval q2.
1. 2. How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
2. Gender
Here are some of the photos I have used in my magazine. For my magazine I have
used all female models as I feel as though females are more likely to buy my
magazine and they are the main audience for this specific magazine.
Women are portrayed in a specific way (Laura Mulvey) I have tried to reflect this in
my images in my magazine. Women are seen to always be wearing dresses, lots of
make up, having long hair etc. These are all presented in the images of the women I
have taken. Some of the images have been taken with there hands on there hips or
down by there side, and are looking strait towards the camera, this is seen as being
a provocative female stance and is a way many females are represented in a lot of
music magazines.
In some of my images the model has a guitar as a prop in the soot with her, this is
showing people reading the magazine that young people are able to write there
own songs and play there own instruments, gibing some readers things to aspire to
be like.
3. Age
The ages of the models that have been photographed are from 16 – 19, this reflects
the main age group which will be purchasing the magazine and also who will buying
the singles in the charts. This is also the age range as the readers of the magazine
can look up and aspire to be a young star like the artists in the magazine.
All of the girls in the photos portray the stereotype of the young female as some are
wearing a dress, skirts, jackets, trousers, leggings, this variety ensures all types of
readers are aimed at and feel as though there style has been incorporated into the
articles.
All of the models in the articles are wearing fashionable clothing, this alows the
reders to look up to them in there fasition sence but also to promote brand names
within the maazine and formote other aspectes, e.g asecorys, games, tablets and
many other things that can be possible just from spesific colthing.
4. Class
Social class is defined by the persons occupation or job, for the age group that my
magazine will be aimed at this will be by the jobs of there parents. My artists have
been styled to link to this class
A lot of the girls in my magazine are wearing lots of make up, dressed in posh and
expensive looking clothes and have there hair styles, this suggests that they have
enough money to be able to buy good quality clothes and expensive makeup and
hair products. All of my images have been taken in a rather posh/sophisticated
My magazine comes out monthly and is only £2.99, due to this price both working,
middle and upper class can afford my magazine.
5. Ethnicity
In my magazine there are only white, British artists are represented in my magazine.
This is because the genres in my magazine, pop and indie artists they are generally
associated to be white-British and those that are in the charts, this ‘stereotype’ has
been reflected in the images I have chosen and originally taken. It also appeals to the
majority of citizens in the UK, because white-British is the majority group in society.
Also, because the product has been made in the City Of York, the area is
predominantly white, so these sort of people have been represented and have
become the audience for the magazine.
