2. To chose a suitable target audience to aim
and distribute my magazine at, I had to find
out lots of things about my target audience
to ensure my magazine would be appealing
and suitable for them and
this particular target audience. Before fully
identifying who my overall target audience
would be, I decided to produce a basic
reviews and profile of a typical audience
member who enjoys and already reads rock
magazine which was the genre of music
magazine which I wanted to create. I chose
this typical audience member to be myself. I
thought that choosing myself, a 17 year old
college student, would be a good idea as i
already buy and read existing rock music
magazines and like rock fashion and music. By
choosing myself it was convenient as i could
create my magazine and out things into it
that would convince me to buy and read the
magazine but also thing inside of the
magazine which I would enjoy and what
other target audience, similar to myself,
would also similarly like. I made sure to
include my music taste, fashion style
interests, favourite places to shop and eat,
hobbies and favourite social media websites.
3. After looking at these and
gaining a basic understanding
of the target audience that I
will be aiming my magazine
at, i was able to determine a
specific target audience, who i
found out would be both male
and female, aged 13-19, who
likes rock music and are still at
school or college or have their
first job. I created a
questionnaire
on Microsoft word and
printed this out and
handed these questionnaires
randomly out around college
for people to fill in and
complete. I also used a
questionnaire on paper to ask
people there favourite shops
and places to eat and
favourite, social media
websites.
4. From these questionnaire i found out that 45% were male and 55% was female. The average age was 13-19, the most
popular music group was rock with 65%. 35% would prefer weekly magazines, 65% would prefer monthly magazines,
the average price people would spend ion a music magazine is £2-£3, the magazines most people already read now is
kerrang and rocksound and people want to see Q&A's, interviews, free posters, gig reviews and album reviews and
celebrity news. The most favourite shop was topshop, the most popular place to eat out was nandos, and the most
popular social media website was twitter and tumblr. All these points were important and relevant factors to find out
when researching information on my target audience as it provides me with essential information needed to create my
magazine and a magazine that would appealing and attract this audience and that they would also enjoy to read it. By
finding out the age of my target audience is shows that they will be still at school or college meaning they would have
not much income so i will have to consider this when choosing a price for my magazine, it would have to be a price
they could afford to buy. Knowing that the target audience is both male and female i would have to make my magazine
suitable for both genders. Also finding out peoples favourite bands/artists and music tastes i would know who to
feature in my magazine to attract the target audience to buy my magazine over existing magazines. I asked if people
liked gigs and fesitvals and if they attended them so that i knew weather to included gig and festival reviews inside my
magazine.
Finally after gathering all of this information i can now create my magazine but will keep in mind my target audience at
refer back to this information and results at all times.
