1. A2 Media
The brief I have chosen for my coursework is :
• The first four pages from a regional
magazine.
• Two hyperlinked pages from the magazines
website.
• A billboard advertisement for magazine.

2. Initial Ideas
My initial idea is to create a women's fashion
magazine for the summer season. The target
audience for my magazine is 18-30 year old
females who will have an interest in clothes,
make-up, models and their overall appearance.
The colour scheme for my magazine will consist
of bright and vibrant colours such as pink, white,
yellow etc. since it is a summer issue.
3. Summer Work
During the summer I started the initial planning for my
coursework and researched various different fashion
magazines to gather some ideas and knowledge. Firstly, I
created a mood board which included all of my starting ideas
about what could be included in my magazine. I also thought
about who my target audience would be and recorded what
would appeal to them and make them buy the issue.
I then made an action plan
in order to track each date
that certain parts of my
work should be complete.
This will keep me organised
in order to complete my
work on time. I then looked
at various inspirational texts
and conventions of fashion
magazines which has
helped me understand the
general layout more.
4. Inspirational Texts
I have researched various different magazines which has helped me complete my initial ideas
and has given me an insight to what a good fashion magazine should look like. A common
feature in each magazine I have researched is bright colours. The colour scheme can be used
to attract the reader to the magazine if it stands out well against everything on the page. As
each magazine I have looked at is designed for the summer season, the bright colours will
attract a large target audience as people will most likely be wearing colours such as bright
pink, yellow, white etc. at this season. I have also noticed that the layout of each magazine is
quite similar as they each have a mid shot of a model in the centre of each front cover. This
looks effective as it is important that the audience can see details on the models outfit, as the
magazine is about fashion.
The magazines also include a lot of
sell lines, used to entice the reader
and to give them some knowledge
on what is included in the magazine.
It is also important that the
masthead is bold and stands out,
therefore is commonly placed on
the top third of the page.
5. Condé Nast Publications
An institution which could produce my product is Condé Nast
Publications.
The company also owns Fairchild Fashion Media (FFM) and its
portfolio of comprehensive fashion journalism brands: Beauty Inc.,
Footwear News, M, Style.com and WWD.
The company attracts more than 164 million consumers across its 20
print and digital media brands: Allure, Glamour, Architectural Digest,
Ars Technica, Bon Appétit, Brides, Condé Nast Traveler, Details,
Epicurious, Golf Digest, Golf World, GQ, Lucky, The New Yorker, Self,
Teen Vogue, Vanity Fair, Vogue, W and Wired.
6. Target Audience
The target audience for my magazine is 18-30
year old females. The age group will be
interested in fashion, beauty, looking
good/keeping healthy. The type of
advertisements that would appear in my
magazine could be for example; skin products,
makeup, perfume, clothing etc. As I
understand the key interests of my target
audience, this makes it easier to plan out what
I will include in my magazine and what my
main contents will include.
