2. INFLUENCES
In order to create a postcard
for our film we derived
inspiration from these two
existing postcards. “Do I
sound gay?” clearly portrayed
its topic by having a rainbow
in the postcard. “Beautiful
Boy” is a coming-of-age film
with a subtle and aesthetically
pleasing postcard.

3. FIRST DRAFT
In the first draft we wanted to incorporate the
rainbow flag which represents the LGBTQ+
community. Having the dog on the rainbow would
instantly portray the comedic aspect of this film.
The bright colours would be eye catching to our
audience and instantly attract the LGBTQ+
community as they would feel represented in the
film. However, we believe that having the dog on the
rainbow might give away the twist of the film and
lead to it losing its comedic aspect.

4. FINAL DRAFT
For our final draft we worked in more of the
subtlety from “Beautiful Boy”’s postcard. The
closet represents the commonly used metaphor of
“coming out of the closet” which refers to
someone coming out as gay or lesbian. The dirty
pink dress is a reference to the one mentioned in
the film. The bright ink dress being the only
element in colour will draw the attention of
viewers. Overall, this postcard is subtle yet eye
catching and portrays the film’s dramedy feel.
