Sexual Harassment In Australia
Introduction
Sexual harassment still remains a serious problem in workplaces around Australia and can affect
anyone no matter their age or gender. There are many rules and laws in place around Australia to
prevent this issue but there are still many cases every year, it is the one of the most common types
of complaints received by the Australian Human Rights Commission under the Sex Discrimination
Act.
It affects 1 in 4 women, and 1 in 6 men in the workplace; this makes the number of people that
have been sexually harassed very large. Sexual harassment is against the law and some types can be
a criminal offence. A single incident is enough to establish sexual harassment; it does not have to be
repeated.
What is sexual harassment?

Reflection
Sexual harassment in the workplace can happen to anyone no matter their age or gender, this
impacts my co workers and I as employees. This issue can happen to me by anyone around my
workplace, which it a bit scary, it is also frightening to know how often sexual harassment occurs
and how it does not get reported as often as it should. It may not affect me in my current job but it
may very well effect me when I am older and working in a larger

No Child Left Behind Was An Act Of Congress Proposed By...
No Child Left Behind was an act of Congress proposed by President Bush January 23, 2001. The
bill was coauthored by the following representatives: John Boehner (R OH), George Miller (D
CA), and Senators Edward Kennedy (D MA) and Judd Gregg (R NH). The purpose of this bill was
to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary EducationAct which included Title 1, a program for
disadvantaged youth. To receive federal funding schools must measure students using standardized
assessments in particular grades. Each state has developed its own standard for how a student must
perform on a given assessment. Before No Child Left Behind states took in billions of dollars for
educational funding and were not held accountable for the funds allocated to them.
Disadvantaged youth were written off as unable to be taught and they were pushed through the
system receiving little to no education. Parents were denied the ability to know if their students
were receiving quality education. Some speculate people against educational reform have
incorrectly claimed that NCLB is an unfunded mandate. Brian Riedl of the Heritage Foundation
noted, NCLB is neither unfunded nor a mandate. States are not obligated to accept funds in federal
education aid NCLB offers. If a state wishes to not be held accountable for improving student
achievement, or that prefer to do things a different way, they can simply decline the money.

Fight Club Chapter Summaries
Ch.9 Professor Dumbldore sent the Gryffindors to the Hall, to keep them safe. The Gryffindors
slept into their sleeping bags that night. No one found Black in the castle, and they wondered
how Black got in. Every Professor knew that Black was after Harry, even Harry knew it himself.
The others didn t want him to be practicing Quidditch in the evenings because it s not safe. On
the other hand, Gryffindor is going to play against Hufflepuff instead of Slytherin. Harry was very
serious about the Quidditch, therefore he was late to the Defense Against the Dark Arts class.
Unfortunately, Professor Lupin was sick, and Snape takes the class instead. Snape is like the old
days, who is a cold horrible teacher for the students. Weasley got a detention because Snape disliked

Although Harry was still very upset about the Nimbus 2000, he didn t argue or complain in the

however, it was smashed into bits by Whomping Willow, which means no chance. Professor Lupin

The Ford Motor Company And General Motors
The largest contributor to Canada s Gross Domestic Product is Canada s largest manufacturing
employer (Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers Association, 2011), but how has this sector surpassed
all other industries? and how has this sector survived all the economic destructions riddled
throughout Canada s history? This is the Canadian automotive industryand it is enormous and
powerful yet so threatened by politics. Two of the largest players in the automotive industry are the
Ford Motor Companyand General Motors. By comparing the two paths both parallel companies
have taken throughout over one hundred years of operations (Dykes, 2015), we can expose proper
and improper business strategies within Canada. We can adventure through the strengths built up
by management, the weaknesses that have attacked through the inside, the potential opportunities
forecasted to arise, and the threats that may enforce themselves towards these industrial giants.
From this we may be able to gather just what it takes to survive the Canadian market. The Ford
Motor company was founded in Windsor Ontario in 1904 and initiated the commercialization of the
automotive industry in Canada (Dykes, 2015). Four years later in 1908 General Motors was
founded by Colonel R.S. Mclaughlin. The government of Canada had placed tariffs, long before the
invention of the working combustion engine, on carriages entering Canada (Melandon, 2009). This
in turn forced entrepreneurs like Mclaughlin to establish manufacturing

The Spirit Of Justice In David s Tales From Ovid
In a world of fire and brimstone, humanity was born. There was no peace, no goodness, no
compassion, a trial by fire. Within this debauched world seeped in chaos, we established order.
With it, we created society and bound the very nature to our will, yet, just as our order binds
others, it ensnares us. In this society of our own creation Man is born free, and everywhere he is in
chains, as Rousseau once said. These chains, the shackles of justice, were forged by us to be
weapons against ourselves. And so we decide when to use that weapon, to decide once and for all
what is justice and what is not. Tales from Ovid, a strong sense of what is right and what is wrong
is both essential and worthless, and the spirit of the stories, embodied in... Show more content on

In that story, Tiresias, a man is called up to the heavens to settle an argument between Jupiter
and Juno. In retaliation for siding with Jupiter, Juno curses him to a life of blindness but
receives the gift of prophecy from Jupiter. This ultimately brief story highlights one of the main
themes of Tales from Ovid, the idea of divine wrath and benefit. Those who anger the Olympians
receive despair in return, often transformed into a lower existence. Actaeon, who only by
accident sees Diana naked, is forced to be a stag that is hunted and killed by his friends and
hounds. Such is a humiliation above all others. Actaeon, who was a predator, is now the prey, a
lowly stag. Yet, in other cases, people are rewarded by the gods. King Midas, who returned
Silenus, one of Bacchus s friends, to the god received one wish within Bacchus s power. There is
no concept of morality within these dealings, only the idea of what pleases and what angers.
Such is not true justice, only a dark revenge or heavenly blessing based on primitive emotions.
Yet, these ideas reveal much about us, the creators of the work. The very presence of divine
entities, such as Jupiter, allows them to judge mortals, the people below them, to right so called
wrongs. People crave a higher power, people above them, to make the decisions. Yet in contrast
with this, Tiresias is asked to make a judgment for the immortals, showing that people still want a
say in what happens. These paradoxical desires are mixed with an intense fear of being punished by
those same almighty beings, exemplified by Tiresias s punishment from Juno. These conflicting
themes represent what humanity first conceived justice to be: punishment in the form of revenge,
to have a higher being right wrongs. Knowing justice can be a double edged sword, the fear of it
being aimed at them terrifies the masses. This

Vinegar Lab
Introduction Research: In this lab I are used agar combined with alkali and placed in vinegar to
simulate how long it takes cells with a larger surface area to volume ratio to transport a material
in and out of their cell. In the lab I will answer the following: Why are cells so small? What aspect
determines how big a cell can be and still function?
For a cell to obtain substance, the substance needs to go across the cell membrane. The volume of
the cell determines its metabolism. Cells with large volume need more materials for them to
survive because they have a large surface area.Cells use diffusion to get materials in and out the
cell. Cells that have a large surface area can diffuse more materials in their cells.
Hypothesis:
If ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The diffusion occurred because the alkali in the agar cubes reacts to the vinegar causing the the
cubes to turn yellow from green. The lab displayed how cells would diffuse materials in their
membrane. The agar with largest ratio sized at 0.5 centimeters changed colors at 1.33 minutes
while the agar with the smallest ratio with size of 2.0 centimeters changed colors at 38.2
minutes. This data supports my hypothesis because it shows that agar smallest ratio took the
longest time for it to change colors. From my observations of the agar in the vinegar, I can
conclude that cells with a smaller surface area to volume ratio would be less efficient at
diffusing materials than a cell with a larger one. I can infer that cells are small because it is
efficient for the cell to get materials in and out of the cell and to carry out their processes while in
larger cell their processes would take a longer time because the cell has more

Pelvic irradiation may also cause proctitis and sigmoiditis. 2 to 3 weeks after treatment starts,
patients may develop loose stools; sometimes, the diarrhea may be associated with presence of
blood and mucus or feeling of incomplete evacuation. These symptoms can usually decrease
shortly after the completion of radiation treatment. A few of the patients may also develop long

Downloading Music Should Be Made Legal Essay example
Downloading All Music Should Be Made Legal
In 1999, an 18 year old college dropout named Shawn Fanning revolutionized the music industry
with the program he invented called Napster. Napster was an internet program that made it possible
for users to share music files for free. His product gained instant interest across America which
brought an opposite response from the Music industry. In 2001, as expected, Napster was sued for
copyright infringement by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and shut down
at the peak of its success. The media industry wanted the technology halted because it was terrified
of how it would affect the economy. Nonetheless, new programs are rising to take Napster s place
and history is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Looking at the main headlines for downloading that originate from the RIAA, it can be noticed
that the word illegal is replaced by unauthorized . This is because the courts state that the word
illegal is considered to be a false statement when making reference to downloading music. When the
topic is brought to discussion, two typical responses are shouted from the opposing sides.
Supporters of downloading and lobbyists alike both have very opinionated views on the
situation. Some people are arguing that stealing is stealing and wrong no matter what. But is
the downloading of music considered stealing per se? Providing a copyrighted source of
material without charge may sound ludicrous, but when comparing the downloading of music to
radio broadcasting, very few changes are present. Radio broadcasting is allowing listeners to
sample copyrighted material free of charge and is known as a great are kept up to date with the
latest media releases. So if free listening is the problem here, then the radio is much more a
factor to be feared. Music downloading functions in the same motion, but with more benefits to
the artist. Without the free listening opportunity presented by downloading, many new bands
would never have the chance to extend their music on a large scale, from a lack of funds. As
quoted from a survey of Vintage Cask, 85% of profit does not come from the selling of music CD
s believe it or not, but from the selling of merchandise like band shirts and

Writing the Hawkeye is for fun, but the students that do it also get paid. They have a few students

Globalization In Katherine Boo s Novel Behind The...
The city of Mumbai has seen much growth in the past years. A string of hotels have been set up
for travelers and high class businessmen. An ever growing, top of the line airport has been built for
those coming in and out of the country. From the outside, Mumbai seems to enjoy being
internationally integrated with the rest of world, otherwise known as globalization. However, this
is not the case as seen in Katherine Boo s novel Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and
Hope in a MumbaiUndercity. This novel is set in a slum right next to the Mumbai International
Airport called Annawadi. It focuses mainly on the life and story of the main character, Abdul.
Abdul Husain and his family make a living by selling scrap metal tossed out by the upper class
of Mumbai. When looking at Abdul s story, one can see the corruption that made it near
impossible for globalization to have a positive effect on Annawadi. Abdul s relationship with his
neighbor, one legged Fatima, also shows how neighborhood relationships were a barrier to
Annawadi s ability to be a part of Mumbai s globalization. Before examining the reasons for
Annawadi s lack of effects from globalization, one must look at some of the reasons as to why
Annawadi faces the shocking amount of povertythat it does. In the novel, Boo writes, What you
don t want is always going to be with you. What you want is never going to be with you. Where
you don t want to go, you have to go. And the moment you think you re going to live

There would be positive and negative effects of creating this central hub on the Griffith campus.
The effects would also be split in to time frames, whether they are short term or long term effects.
There are going to be fewer positive effects in the short term but there will be more positive effects
in the longer term. The negative short term effects of expanding the library would be the congestion
caused by the original construction of the development. This construction would create traffic due
to the closure of roads near the site of the expansions. Positive short term effects could be the
opportunity of local students in Griffith University Gold CoastCampus to help with the construction
planning or the design of the expansion. The markets at night would also have some short term
effects also creating traffic problems throughout the campus. This would only create problems at the
timeof the markets are being held. There wouldn t be any negative long term effects of the
markets apart from the green space not being able to be used on those nights for the future. There
are numerous positives effects of the markets being held at Griffith. The positive short term effects
would create a steady income for those involved in the markets. The markets will also help
advertise local produce to the wider community, supporting local farmers around the area and
enticing local farmers to come down to the campus and sell their produce.

US MARKET REACTION
US Stocks took their deepest plunge in more than a year as fears grew that Europe s debt crisis
could spread around the world and undermine the U.S. economic recovery. The possibility has been
brewing for weeks, but analysts said some investors are just waking up to it.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 376 points, its biggest point drop since February 2009. All
the major indexes were down well over 3 percent and are now showing losses for 2010. Interest
rates fell sharply in the Treasury market as investors once again sought the safety of U.S.
government debt.
The number of people applying for unemployment benefits last week rose unexpectedly and the
Greek government s response to its debt crisis sparked new protests in Athens, but analysts said
neither event appeared to set off Thursday s selling.
They said more insvestors seemed to be grasping the possibility that the U.S. recovery could be in
jeopardy, and that many were realizing that the stock market s big rebound since March 2009

Disability Issues In I Am Sam
I am Sam is a great movie to watch in diversity class. It focuses on a diversity issue that is
overlooked in society today. The main issue of the movie was that the main character Sam has an
Intellectual disability and he is struggling to take care of his daughter. Intellectual disability is a
disability that interferes with a person s cognitive abilities and the functions they use in everyday
life. This includes everything from their social skills to the way they behave (Chadwick, Wesson,
Fullwood, 2013).
Society tends to forget that everyone has equal rights in America. In the movie they are basically
trying to take Sam s rights away as a parent because of his disability. They believe that he is not
able to properly care for his child being that his mental capacity is that of a seven year old. Instead
of the justice system trying to provide him with the resources he needs, they rather just take the
child out of her home. This is unfair treatment and a form of discrimination in my opinion. Another
diversity issue in this movie is his socioeconomic status. Sam is classified as having low
socioeconomic status. Due to his disability he can only work at fast food types of jobs which
don t pay well. With him having a child to take care of on his own it limits his finances even
more. There are not a lot of places that hire people with disabilities. If they do find a job the pay
is low making it extremely difficult for them to live on their own, and take care of their family.

Examples Of Porter s Five Forces
Porter s Five Forces Model
Porter s Five Forces are the following: Potential entrants with their threat of entry; Buyers with
bargaining; Suppliers with their bargaining power; Threats of substitutes and Rivalry. I will
describe the Five Forces and how they are helpful in the international area. I will also discuss
their current applications and conclude with the limitations that this model has. The first force to
discuss is the supplier power. This force leads to buyer supplier relationships between firms and
industries. When suppliers are in a position of strength they have influence over the industry that
provides raw materials; their goal is to sell raw materials at a higher price in order to capture some
of the industry s profit. An example of this can be Jewelry stores holding ... Show more content on

When new industry enters the market if throws of the balance, affecting competitions. In theory we
have a free market; meaning any firm can enter and exit the market at will. The reality it s just not
that simple due to barriers of entry. When profits are high many firms what to enter the market
and over time profits will decrease. When the profits begin to decrease then firms begin to exit the
market. Barriers are unique characteristic in the industry to reduce the rate of entry of new firms
into the market. One type of barrier is entry deterring pricing, this is when the price is kept
relatively low to discourage other firms from entering the market. Government barriers are those in
with the government create monopolies through regulations. An example of this type of barrier is
the utility market, in which the government rather have one company providing efficient service.
Other barriers are patents and assets specificity. Exit barriers keep a firm from leaving the markets.
Examples can be that they have specialized assets that difficult to liquidate, high exit cost and

Electric Guitar Research Paper
With the increased pressure to go electric, many artists who played the guitar at the height of the
Rock n Roll movement switched their acoustic instruments to electric versions. Unlike bass guitars,
which can often be converted into electric basses, a purely electric guitar will not produce melodic
sounds without the help of an amplifier which carries the tune produced through an electronic
current. Electric guitars also allow the player to partially manipulate the sound coming to the
amplifier through equalizing, distorting, and other methods.
If you want to teach yourself the electric guitar, you are going to first have to choose which type
you want to play. Many versions exist and it is up to you to decide which one fits your style or
how much dedication you really want to put into your practice. If you want to learn using
classical pedagogy, lessons will probably be essential. Choosing this route will allow you to choose

Goals Of Therapy
Practically, therapy is the process of meeting with a counsellor or psychotherapist for the purpose of
resolving problematic behaviours, beliefs, feelings and related physical symptoms (Ulman, 2001).
The radical and visionary ideas of Ronald D. Laing that associated with the anti psychiatry
movement challenged the psychoanalysisestablishment, clamming that diagnosis was scientifically
meaningless (Kotowicz, 1997). Laing (1964) argues that the mad were sometimes saner than the
normal he believes that the psychotic experiences may have healing dimension, and the
psychiatrists are the actual anti psychiatryas their function has nothing to do with the healing
(Laing Cooper, 1964). Likewise, Arthur W. Comb, was a beacon for humanistic education during
the half of the 20th century, believes that the body gets well by itself, propelled by its own basic
need (Combs, 1989) (Murray, 1938). He assumes that the doctor could not cure the person, but to

In The Little Mermaid the father was Authoritative, although the father laid down the rules he gave

The Pros And Cons Of Wireless Sensor Networking
Introduction
Wireless networking or atleast the networks in which we operate normally refers to wireless

The little pieces of information like temperature sensors or open/close sensor are extremely valuable
information as it provides insights into defense that might happen in their business processes. There

With wireless sensor network, the applications are cost effective and people can use it. The main
disadvantage of the wireless sensor network is that it have the limited energy and computational
power so it is impossible to make traditional security methodologies to use. Many of the
researchers (A.Perrig, et.al 2001) and (Karlof. C., et.al, 2004) have given attention on this
problem in there research paper. There are some devices which work with sensor network which
use Check, Track and Trace , this type of functionality is used by most of the companies for

environment. Track determines locating an object at its place as an example in the hospital or in
the warehouse, we can determine the location of physical assets and then tracing that with the help
of sensors. The large application in the Wireless sensor networks make it hard to discuss security
without any specific context. In wireless sensor networks, the security is the main problem.
Critical Analysis and Details
There are different levels for different level application in structure and scale which are important
for developing the sensor network. Location sensor nodes play an important role in the real world

127 Hours Theory
In this essay, I will examine 127 Hours and it s representation of the real life event of getting
trapped in a canyon without any sort of communication to the outside world and without the
acknowledgment of family and friends. I will use the analysis of behaviour for Aron Ralston during
his trap to bring forth the films objective for promoting continuous faith in one s self,
courageousness and insurance of safety through proper communication. Such evaluation will be
done through the usage of theories of Gombrich s cognitive versus affective belief that states the
difference between sayings and actions, and Freud s psychoanalytic theory of ritual and neurosis
that places repetitive behaviours as those of neurotics to withdraw from reality.... Show more

Gombrich sheds light on the fact that people tend to show differences in what they claim to
believe and what they act upon. His theory, cognitive versus affective belief, takes into account
behaviour and the mind to prove opposition between believed ideas and actions thus showing
that actions can be as meaningful as faith. In 127 Hours, after being trapped in the canyon for
multiple days with barely enough food and water, Aron carves RIP 75 03 ARON RALSTON on
the walls after recording an introduction of himself and his situation with his camera. Yet, Aron
still aims to preserve his food and, especially, water up until he ran out and had to resort to
cutting his arm off to rescue himself. Aron itching such a phrase reflects his cognitive belief that
he will die stuck in the canyon. Also, it symbolizes mental relinquishing and the vanishing of
hope since it represents his tombstone. Furthermore, the fact that the first few sentences Aron
records since his fall into the canyon consist of a plea to send the camera to his family also
constitute to his cognitive belief of death. However, his cognitive belief does not match with his
actions while being trapped, his affective belief. Instead of completely giving up through the
consumption of all his sustenance and waiting for death, Aron fights to survive by carefully
monitoring his food and water intakes. As well as that, Aron s constant trails of escape and
methods of keeping himself warm in the cold nights disprove his cognitive belief of giving into
death as his affective belief is centered not only on survival but also escaping alive and adapting to
his current environment. Of course, Aron s affective belief in this case is heavily influenced by
human instinct, but Aron goes a higher level regarding his need for survival when he cuts his arm
off to escape. Even though

Speer s Architectural Role In Nazi Germany

Bartleby the Scrivener Essay
Bartleby s Isolation and the Wall
Introduction:
Bartleby the Scrivener, A Story of Wall Street is a short story by Herman Melville in which the
narrator, a lawyer who runs a firm on Wall Street, tells the story of a rebellious scrivener who
worked for him named Bartleby. One day, Bartleby simply states I would prefer not to when asked
to do his normal copying duties as a scrivener (Melville). Soon Bartleby starts sleeping and eating
at the office, refusing to leave. Eventually the narrator decides his only option is to move out and
leave Bartleby there. Unfortunately the next tenant is not nearly as passive as the prior and has the
lonely scrivener arrested. In jail he continues his preference against society and it eventually leads

By stripping himself of all physical human contact he has transformed himself from a person to a
thing. He is merely a purposeless object that has rooted itself to the office. By this point we can see
Bartleby has successfully isolated himself physically from the world.
Bartleby s Emotional Isolation: Bartleby s method of rejection is broken down in the online
article Time of Our Lives: A Critical History of Temporality , by David Couzens Hoy. When
Bartleby uses the statement, I would prefer not to [it] is neither an affirmation nor a negation.
Bartleby is not refusing to do what he is asked, but he is not accepting the order either. There is a
double negation involved, and because the only two possibilities are to say yes or no. Bartleby s
impossible position of saying neither collapses into nothingness (Hoy, 174). As it is stated in the
quote Bartleby is neither refusing nor is he accepting any duty the lawyer asks of him. This
double negative statement makes it very difficult for the lawyer to understand what Bartleby
means by it. By being so ambiguous in his meaning Bartleby can keep his emotions or feelings
towards society, work, humanity etc. hidden from sight. By isolating himself emotionally and
keeping his feelings out of plain sight he leaves things up for interpretation. Keeping his emotions
inside is just another step towards complete isolation. Egbert S. Oliver states it best in the book A

King Arthur And The Winter King Similarities
While reading The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights by John Steinbeck and The Winter
King by Bernard Cornwell, I noticed that there are both differences and similarities between the
legends told in the novels. Before reading these novels I had barely any background knowledge of
any King Arthur legends so I was learning new things as I read. The two novels portray both things
that Arthur did and the characters he was involved with very differently. Even though there were
some similarities, both authors added their own twist to the legends. Furthermore, I will be
discussing the similarities and differences between the treatments of Arthurian legend in both
novels. To begin with, the first thing I would like to discuss would be the actual legend behind King
Arthur. In The Acts of King Arthur, Arthur pulls a sword out of a stone to prove he is King and the
novel goes in depth into how he is conceived rather than what Arthur actually does.. In The Winter

Mucus Essay
Lubricating and protective properties of mucus and its importance in the gastrointestinal tract
Mucus is a thick secretion made up of water, electrolytes, and a mixture of several glycoproteins.
The Glycoproteins are made up of large polysaccharides which are bound with much smaller
quantities of protein.
Mucus is slightly different in different parts of the gastrointestinal tract. It has numerous important
characteristics applicable everywhere that make it both a superb lubricant and a protectant for the
wall of the gut. These are as follows:
1.It has adherent qualities it adheres tightly to the food or other particles to spread as a thin film
over the surfaces.
2.It has sufficient body the wall of the gut is coated by the mucus and ... Show more content on

It causes fecal particles to adhere to one another to form the fecal masses that are excreted during a
bowel movement.
5.It can t be easily digested by the gastrointestinal enzymes (very strong resistance).
6.The glycoproteins of mucus have amphoteric properties (they are capable of buffering small
amounts of either acids or alkalies) and mucus regularly contains moderate amounts of bicarbonate
ions, which particularly neutralise acids.
Mucus allows easy slippage of food along the gastrointestinal tract and to prevent abrasive or
chemical damage to the epithelium. When the salivary glands does not secrete saliva you very
quickly become aware of the lubricating qualities of mucus, as it is then difficult to swallow solid
food even when it is eaten while drinking large amounts of water.
Lubricating and protective properties of mucus and its importance in other parts of the body
The mucus secreted by the epithelial cells within the linings of the respiratory and upper
gastrointestinal tracts also contains antimicrobial chemicals. As mucus is sticky, particles that stick
to it are prevented from entering the blood. In the upper respiratory tract they are swept by ciliary
action up into the pharynx and then swallowed, or are phagocytosed by macrophages in the various

Israel s Unfaithfulness To Hosea
A prophet was someone called by God to be a spokesman and a model of the message that God
gave them. The prophets spoke the God given message through different types of oracles, as well
as in a poetic fashion. Not only did God call the prophets to speak the message, he also called
them to visually illustrate the message with their lives. So, they lived out what they preached.
Hosea was a prophet to the kingdom of Israel. God called Hosea to marry a harlot as a symbol of
Israel s adultery against God. Gomer s unfaithfulness to Hosea was an illustrative picture of
Israel s unfaithfulness to God with the gods of the other kingdoms. Hosea had three children

Research Paper On Charles Darwin s Voyage
Charles Darwin received an exhilarating invitation to be a part of the HMS Beagle for a trip
around the world. And on December 27, 1831, Charles Darwin set sail for the purpose of
exploring the exotic animal world along the coast of South America because of the fascination it
brought to him. Darwin embarked on this journey with high ambition and his mind set on
collecting specimens for the study of geology and natural history. The ship set sail out of
Plymouth and over the course of five years and hit the coast of South America, Africa, England,
Australia, and New Zealand. However, there was no smooth sailing during the duration of the

Challenges Faced United Arb Emirates (UAE) Health Care System
UAE Health Care System Strategy
To achieve anything you want it you must put strategy to how you can achieve it successfully, and
that s what United Arab Emirates (UAE) health care system did. The ambition of the UAE health
care system to become one of the favorite destinations for local patients as well as a center for
international medical tourists require high quality and cost effective procedure and treatment, that s
what makes UAE put long term strategy to achieve this aspiration (world health organization, 2005

effort to attract special high level health care providers to the UAE. However, despite the strong

Challenges
One of the great challenges was faced health care development is the lack of standardization of

Abortion Vs Abortion Essay
Abortion (Roe v. Wade) Abortion should be an independent decision; no one should tell you can t
have an abortion. Being that abortion is something very personal and very dangerous if not done
correctly problems come out of it very easily. With that being said law suits happen which gets the
court get involved, and laws are placed with restrictions on abortionare made.
The judicial branch helped in every court case about abortion, by showing how the people feel and
attacks the problems that are associated with abortions and what can be done to fix these problems.
For instance the case between Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania and Casey over
the, Pennsylvania s 1982 Abortion Control Act claiming that it violated the Court s decision by
burdening women s access to abortion. In their decision, the Supreme Court upheld the basis of
Roe while also deeming parts of the Pennsylvania law to be constitutional. David H. Souter wrote
the majority opinion, which reaffirmed a woman s constitutional right to an abortion. But the Court
also clarified that states could place restrictions on abortion as long as they did not present the
undue burden test. In Casey, the justices defined as a substantial obstacle in the path of a woman
seeking an abortion before the fetus attains viability. The majority determined that the waiting
period and the parental notification part of the law was fine but the spousal notification clause was
not. However the implementation of the undue burden test continues to be debated from policy to
policy. In the case of Monday s ruling on Whole Women s Health, the test was enough to strike
down Texas law.
Legislation played a part in passing laws and looking at all aspects of the subject. For legislation
to prohibit a specific abortion procedure, the partial birth abortion procedure, was passed in the
108th Congress. The partial birth abortion ban act is an example of Congress restricting the
performance of a medical procedure. Legislation that would stop the transport of minors over state
lines in order for the minor to get an abortion has been brought up in a number of Congresses. The
courts did not settle the issue, the courts prompted debate and a variety of

The Subatomic World of Quantum Mechanics
Quantum Mechanics
The Quantum Mechanics are weird, yet incredibly powerful theory of the subatomic world, in
which everyday concepts to do with the forces and motion are seen in a different perspective, as
they do not longer apply in the same way. This calls for a new type of mechanics based on what
scientists call quantum rules.
Quantum mechanics are a very complicated matter that scientists don t fully understand yet; they
are in charge of studying the smallest faces of our world. The idea of quantum mechanics was
developed in the 20th century by a German physicist Max Planck who introduced his constant,
called PlankВґs Constant (h=6.62606957Г—10 34 m2 kg/s), which is used to determinate the
energy of a photon. When E=hv (v=frequency). Albert Einstein, Niels Bohr, Paul Dirac and Werner
Heisenberg later extended the theory in the 1920s.
Trying to explain quantum mechanics is like trying to explain how the universe was formed. There
are different doctrines but again, none of them is completely certain.
Although it was a tremendous success to the researchers no one really knows how or why it works.
It makes prediction in the microscopic world that go completely against our common sense. For
example quantum mechanics state that an atom can be in more than 1 place at the same time until
we look at it, since then we force it to make a choice on where he is. Also assures that an atom is
neither a particle nor a wave, it is both and neither at the same time. All these weird

Fossils In Exemplary Conditions Are Easily Found All Over...
1.Fossils are very useful in putting together the history of organisms and how things have evolved
over time. They can be found deep in the ground. The long process that makes this possible is
fossilization. Fossilization is the process by which the remains of a plant or animal fail to fully
decompose and in time, converts into a fossil. In order for organisms to turn into fossils, certain
conditions must be met. The soft parts of an organism will often decompose or be consumed by
scavengers. Therefore, organisms with hard parts like a shell are more often fossilized, leaving
behind the skeleton. Even hard parts such as the skeleton can be destroyed by nature such as waves
or by other microorganisms. Most importantly, the chances of fossilization decrease with greater

It takes a very long time for fossilization to get its finished product, a fossil. In the years that
fossilization takes place, many things can occur that will damage the organism. Quickly
following the first part, the second half of the statement, fossils in exemplary conditions are
easily found all over the world is also false. In a given scenario that an organism did fossilize, the
chances of it being in exemplary condition are slim. Nature has most likely taken its toll on it,
breaking it apart with wind, rain, storms, waves, etc. Fossils that have been discovered are rarely
in exemplary conditions. Bits and pieces of it go missing. Fossils do exist all over the world but
the condition that they are in is not always perfect. It is like a bag of chips or peanut butter
crackers. When you first get them, the chips are most likely in almost to perfect shape inside an
air filled bag. The peanut butter crackers are not broken up. But as you put the chips and crackers
in your bag for a whole day, it gets knocked around, squished and thrown on the

Flawless , a song sung by iconic pop sensation BeyoncГ©, is a lyrical poem that worships her

supernatural creators, as Zeus did. This represents the rarity of a perfect creator. This is displayed
through the Erechtheion a statue created in the image of Athena and Poseidon, constructed
between 421 B.C. and 406 B.C. This statue was built in exultation to these celebrated, supernatural
rulers and to this day still stands as a landmark of history. Seeing as there were several other statues

Fair Value Measurement
FAIR VALUE MEASUREMENT: IMPLEMENTATION ISSUES AND CHALLENGES (PART 1)
(by Tuam Kwok Choon and Ng Kean Kok)
INTRODUCTION Since the promulgation of fair value accounting by the International Accounting
Standards Board (IASB), the subject matter has been hotly debated by industry players and
professionals of the accounting fraternity the world over. Many problems and pitfalls have been
highlighted on the mark to market premise. For example, David Gwilliam and Richard H.G.
Jackson (2008) noted that Enron was able to monetize physical assets so as to bring them within
the remit of mark to market accounting , suggesting misuse of fair value measurement. Fair value is
said to be superior to other forms of measurement because it is easily ... Show more content on

With the emphasis on mark to market approach, fair value hence is definitely very relevant in
today s business environment. Historical cost accounting fails in terms of not only in relation to
reporting current values, but also in terms of projecting future values. Fair value hence allows for
better investment decision to be made, based on latest fair values reported.
INDUSTRY FEEDBACK AND RESPONSE Critics of the US banking institutions have strongly
criticised and blamed fair value accounting for aggravating the credit crisis, forcing the institutions
to heavily slash the value of their mortgage assets, which resulted in weakening the regulatory
capital ratios. The need to mark to market the financial instruments forced many financial
institutions to incur large writedowns on the balance sheets. Without the regulatory cash cushion,
inter bank and customer lending became severly hampered, thus creating a stagnant credit market.
It is easy to make accounting rules the scapegoat when it comes to shifting blames. The reality is
that had financial institutions adopted fair value accounting and its disclosure requirements early,
they would have seen the writing on the wall.
Still, it is hard to ignore the fact that the recent financial crisis has exposed some shortcomings of
fair value accounting. Reporting fair value in illiquid markets creates earnings volatility and

Ethics of Penn Square and Dow Corning Essay
Ethics of Penn Square and Dow Corning
Ethics of Penn Square Bank and the Dow Corning Bankruptcy Penn Square Bank: What were the
ethical pressures on the firm concerning documentation, credit extension, and revenue recognition
that lead to the final collapse? What should have been done to reduce or offset these pressures?
Penn Square Bank was a small commercial bank in Oklahoma City which made high risk financial
loans during the late 1970s in the oil boom. The bank ultimately collapsed during the early 1980s
due to their financing practices. The bank was overestimating and valuing its customer s gas and
oil reserves that let at that time to fund a bigger credit line. In addition, the bank didn t request

For offsetting ethical pressures to increase revenue recognition, the Penn Square Bank should have
stuck to FASB principles. The GAAP should have been complied with and this would have helped
avoid revenue recognition problems.
Dow Corning Corporation was founded in 1943 as a jointly owned enterprise by The Dow
Chemical Company and Corning Incorporated to develop the potential of silicone materials. Dow
Corning s principal businesses were silicone materials and polycrystalline silicon.
In the early 1960 s Dow Corning supplied Texas plastic surgeons Frank Gerow and Thomas Cronin
with silicone for their medical implant device research. Gerow and Cronin, using Dow Corning
silicone, invented the first silicone breast implant as a device to aid women who had undergone
mastectomies. At that time, the Food and Drug Administration had no regulations governing
implantable devices. Companies like Dow Corning had to determine the safety of devices on their
own. The surgeons conducted clinical trials of the implant prior to product introduction in 1964. In
the next several years, the implant grew popular for cosmetic surgery as well as reconstructive, and
Dow Corning cornered both markets. Between 1960s and the mid 1990s, about two million women
nationwide have received breast implants, most of them for cosmetic reasons. However, some
women have started to complain that the implants have ruptured, allowing gel to leak into the
breast cavity and migrate to other

Monsanto s Roundup
Since the appearance of humans on Earth seven million years ago, humanity has always utilized
newly discovered technology to improve life. From primitive stone tools to the invention of the
light bulb, to the creation of self handling vehicles, humanity constantly works to enhance their
existence. The invention of the first genetically modified organismcame in 1973, and has been
utilized ever since to advance everything from food to medicine. A genetically modified organism,
also known as a GMO, is an organism whose DNAis combined with different DNA to give the
organism desirable qualities. Human consumption of GMOs has been debated for many years due
to the potential health risks. However, food companies and corporate giants such as... Show more

Monsanto is an American agrochemical corporation which manufactures pesticides and GMO
crops. One of the most well recognized herbicides is Monsanto s Roundup, which contains the
carcinogen glyphosate. To prevent from killing the crops when farmers apply Roundup to their
fields, Monsanto invented GMO versions of many staple crops such as corn, soybeans, and
cotton which resist Roundup. Like the weeds, these GMO crops still absorb glyphosate,
however the crops are able to stay alive through changes in their genetic makeup which make
them herbicide resistant. The herbicide tolerance of certain crops has been adopted because it,
simplifies weed control to the use of a single herbicide and a flexible and easy management
strategy (Labrada, 2003), as well as decreasing the cost of weed control programs. As a result,
Monsanto bought out most small farms and now owns 80% of the U.S. market share of corn and
93% of the U.S. market share of soy, which are then sold to modern food processing. Upwards of
75% of the processed food on American supermarket shelves contain genetically engineered
ingredients. Not only are Americans consuming massive amounts of GMOs, which pose a huge
health risk themselves, they are also consuming massive amounts of glyphosate, a chemical known
to cause cancer and birth defects (Kruger, 2014). If society stopped consuming carcinogens, the
cancer epidemic will be

Animal Models And Clinical Trials
(WY Mak et. Al, 2014) discusses the concerns of the fact that many drugs that are successful in
animal trials are not successful in clinical trials, most specifically, drugs used in cancer treatments.
Animal models have been an important factor in the testing of a new drug before it is used in
clinical trials, but many drugs that are approved in animalmodels are not successful in human
models. It has been shown that 85% of early clinical trials for novel drugs are not successful and
from the remaining 15%, only half are approved for human use. The reason there is a difference
in results between animal models and clinical trials have to do with the inability of animals to
identically mimic human body functions. An example of a trial that had a difference in results
is the TGN1412 trial. TGN1412 was a drug used to treat diseases such as MS, rheumatoid
arthritis, and certain cancers. Before used in clinical trials, this drug was first tested in mice.
There were no complications shown in mice that would indicate complications in humans.
Humans in clinical trials were given a dose 500 times lower than the dose given to mice and it
resulted in catastrophic organ failure. Another study involving IPI 296 in patients with advanced
chondrosarcoma was ended early due to the fact that it had no effect shown in clinical trials. When
IPI 296 was used on mice, they were shown to have an increase in survival rate. This showed that
the effects of the drug on animal models was different

A Chariot Racing Day in the Roman Times
The Circus Maximus was the oldest and the largest of all the circuses where chariot races took
place holding up to 250, 000 spectators. It was traditionally founded in the sixth century BC by
Tarquinius Priscus, the fifth king of Rome. In 329 BC, permanent starting gates were
constructed and, in 174 BC, that they were rebuilt and seven large wooden eggs were set up to
indicate the completion of each lap. The track was originally formed by the low ground of the

Some people in the crowd looked for powerful beauty of the stallions, the richness of their
accoutrements, perfection of their training and all the agility and bravery of the drivers and riders.
Some people watched it because they gambled money into it. A few minorities hated chariot racing.
A Roman called Pliny is one of them. He couldn t understand the appeal of the circus. Chariot races

saying There s never anything new or different. He s amazed by the amount of people who watch

  • 2. Sexual Harassment In Australia Introduction Sexual harassment still remains a serious problem in workplaces around Australia and can affect anyone no matter their age or gender. There are many rules and laws in place around Australia to prevent this issue but there are still many cases every year, it is the one of the most common types of complaints received by the Australian Human Rights Commission under the Sex Discrimination Act. It affects 1 in 4 women, and 1 in 6 men in the workplace; this makes the number of people that have been sexually harassed very large. Sexual harassment is against the law and some types can be a criminal offence. A single incident is enough to establish sexual harassment; it does not have to be repeated. What is sexual harassment? • 3. No Child Left Behind Was An Act Of Congress Proposed By... No Child Left Behind was an act of Congress proposed by President Bush January 23, 2001. The bill was coauthored by the following representatives: John Boehner (R OH), George Miller (D CA), and Senators Edward Kennedy (D MA) and Judd Gregg (R NH). The purpose of this bill was to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary EducationAct which included Title 1, a program for disadvantaged youth. To receive federal funding schools must measure students using standardized assessments in particular grades. Each state has developed its own standard for how a student must perform on a given assessment. Before No Child Left Behind states took in billions of dollars for educational funding and were not held accountable for the funds allocated to them. Disadvantaged youth were written off as unable to be taught and they were pushed through the system receiving little to no education. Parents were denied the ability to know if their students were receiving quality education. Some speculate people against educational reform have incorrectly claimed that NCLB is an unfunded mandate. Brian Riedl of the Heritage Foundation noted, NCLB is neither unfunded nor a mandate. States are not obligated to accept funds in federal education aid NCLB offers. If a state wishes to not be held accountable for improving student achievement, or that prefer to do things a different way, they can simply decline the money. • 4. Fight Club Chapter Summaries Ch.9 Professor Dumbldore sent the Gryffindors to the Hall, to keep them safe. The Gryffindors slept into their sleeping bags that night. No one found Black in the castle, and they wondered how Black got in. Every Professor knew that Black was after Harry, even Harry knew it himself. The others didn t want him to be practicing Quidditch in the evenings because it s not safe. On the other hand, Gryffindor is going to play against Hufflepuff instead of Slytherin. Harry was very serious about the Quidditch, therefore he was late to the Defense Against the Dark Arts class. Unfortunately, Professor Lupin was sick, and Snape takes the class instead. A stream of visitors intended to cheer him up, and Hagrid even sent him a bunch of earwiggy flower. Still, Harry didn t feel any better, because he realised that the screaming woman was her mother. Harry returned to class; others were discussing about how much they dislike about Professor Snape. Professor Lupin offered help to fix Harry s Nimbus 2000; however, it was smashed into bits by Whomping Willow, which means no chance. • 5. The Ford Motor Company And General Motors The largest contributor to Canada s Gross Domestic Product is Canada s largest manufacturing employer (Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers Association, 2011), but how has this sector surpassed all other industries? and how has this sector survived all the economic destructions riddled throughout Canada s history? This is the Canadian automotive industryand it is enormous and powerful yet so threatened by politics. Two of the largest players in the automotive industry are the Ford Motor Companyand General Motors. By comparing the two paths both parallel companies have taken throughout over one hundred years of operations (Dykes, 2015), we can expose proper and improper business strategies within Canada. We can adventure through the strengths built up by management, the weaknesses that have attacked through the inside, the potential opportunities forecasted to arise, and the threats that may enforce themselves towards these industrial giants. From this we may be able to gather just what it takes to survive the Canadian market. The Ford Motor company was founded in Windsor Ontario in 1904 and initiated the commercialization of the automotive industry in Canada (Dykes, 2015). Four years later in 1908 General Motors was founded by Colonel R.S. Mclaughlin. The government of Canada had placed tariffs, long before the invention of the working combustion engine, on carriages entering Canada (Melandon, 2009). This in turn forced entrepreneurs like Mclaughlin to establish manufacturing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Spirit Of Justice In David s Tales From Ovid In a world of fire and brimstone, humanity was born. There was no peace, no goodness, no compassion, a trial by fire. Within this debauched world seeped in chaos, we established order. With it, we created society and bound the very nature to our will, yet, just as our order binds others, it ensnares us. In this society of our own creation Man is born free, and everywhere he is in chains, as Rousseau once said. These chains, the shackles of justice, were forged by us to be weapons against ourselves. And so we decide when to use that weapon, to decide once and for all what is justice and what is not. Tales from Ovid, a strong sense of what is right and what is wrong is both essential and worthless, and the spirit of the stories, embodied in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In that story, Tiresias, a man is called up to the heavens to settle an argument between Jupiter and Juno. In retaliation for siding with Jupiter, Juno curses him to a life of blindness but receives the gift of prophecy from Jupiter. This ultimately brief story highlights one of the main themes of Tales from Ovid, the idea of divine wrath and benefit. Those who anger the Olympians receive despair in return, often transformed into a lower existence. Actaeon, who only by accident sees Diana naked, is forced to be a stag that is hunted and killed by his friends and hounds. Such is a humiliation above all others. Actaeon, who was a predator, is now the prey, a lowly stag. Yet, in other cases, people are rewarded by the gods. King Midas, who returned Silenus, one of Bacchus s friends, to the god received one wish within Bacchus s power. There is no concept of morality within these dealings, only the idea of what pleases and what angers. Such is not true justice, only a dark revenge or heavenly blessing based on primitive emotions. Yet, these ideas reveal much about us, the creators of the work. The very presence of divine entities, such as Jupiter, allows them to judge mortals, the people below them, to right so called wrongs. People crave a higher power, people above them, to make the decisions. Yet in contrast with this, Tiresias is asked to make a judgment for the immortals, showing that people still want a say in what happens. These paradoxical desires are mixed with an intense fear of being punished by those same almighty beings, exemplified by Tiresias s punishment from Juno. These conflicting themes represent what humanity first conceived justice to be: punishment in the form of revenge, to have a higher being right wrongs. Knowing justice can be a double edged sword, the fear of it being aimed at them terrifies the masses. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Vinegar Lab Introduction Research: In this lab I are used agar combined with alkali and placed in vinegar to simulate how long it takes cells with a larger surface area to volume ratio to transport a material in and out of their cell. In the lab I will answer the following: Why are cells so small? What aspect determines how big a cell can be and still function? For a cell to obtain substance, the substance needs to go across the cell membrane. The volume of the cell determines its metabolism. Cells with large volume need more materials for them to survive because they have a large surface area.Cells use diffusion to get materials in and out the cell. Cells that have a large surface area can diffuse more materials in their cells. Hypothesis: If ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The diffusion occurred because the alkali in the agar cubes reacts to the vinegar causing the the cubes to turn yellow from green. The lab displayed how cells would diffuse materials in their membrane. The agar with largest ratio sized at 0.5 centimeters changed colors at 1.33 minutes while the agar with the smallest ratio with size of 2.0 centimeters changed colors at 38.2 minutes. This data supports my hypothesis because it shows that agar smallest ratio took the longest time for it to change colors. From my observations of the agar in the vinegar, I can conclude that cells with a smaller surface area to volume ratio would be less efficient at diffusing materials than a cell with a larger one. I can infer that cells are small because it is efficient for the cell to get materials in and out of the cell and to carry out their processes while in larger cell their processes would take a longer time because the cell has more ... • 9. Downloading Music Should Be Made Legal Essay example Downloading All Music Should Be Made Legal In 1999, an 18 year old college dropout named Shawn Fanning revolutionized the music industry with the program he invented called Napster. Napster was an internet program that made it possible for users to share music files for free. His product gained instant interest across America which brought an opposite response from the Music industry. In 2001, as expected, Napster was sued for copyright infringement by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and shut down at the peak of its success. The media industry wanted the technology halted because it was terrified of how it would affect the economy. Nonetheless, new programs are rising to take Napster s place and history is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Looking at the main headlines for downloading that originate from the RIAA, it can be noticed that the word illegal is replaced by unauthorized . This is because the courts state that the word illegal is considered to be a false statement when making reference to downloading music. When the topic is brought to discussion, two typical responses are shouted from the opposing sides. Supporters of downloading and lobbyists alike both have very opinionated views on the situation. Some people are arguing that stealing is stealing and wrong no matter what. But is the downloading of music considered stealing per se? Providing a copyrighted source of material without charge may sound ludicrous, but when comparing the downloading of music to radio broadcasting, very few changes are present. Radio broadcasting is allowing listeners to sample copyrighted material free of charge and is known as a great are kept up to date with the latest media releases. So if free listening is the problem here, then the radio is much more a factor to be feared. Music downloading functions in the same motion, but with more benefits to the artist. Without the free listening opportunity presented by downloading, many new bands would never have the chance to extend their music on a large scale, from a lack of funds. As quoted from a survey of Vintage Cask, 85% of profit does not come from the selling of music CD s believe it or not, but from the selling of merchandise like band shirts and ... • 11. Globalization In Katherine Boo s Novel Behind The... The city of Mumbai has seen much growth in the past years. A string of hotels have been set up for travelers and high class businessmen. An ever growing, top of the line airport has been built for those coming in and out of the country. From the outside, Mumbai seems to enjoy being internationally integrated with the rest of world, otherwise known as globalization. However, this is not the case as seen in Katherine Boo s novel Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and Hope in a MumbaiUndercity. This novel is set in a slum right next to the Mumbai International Airport called Annawadi. It focuses mainly on the life and story of the main character, Abdul. Abdul Husain and his family make a living by selling scrap metal tossed out by the upper class of Mumbai. When looking at Abdul s story, one can see the corruption that made it near impossible for globalization to have a positive effect on Annawadi. Abdul s relationship with his neighbor, one legged Fatima, also shows how neighborhood relationships were a barrier to Annawadi s ability to be a part of Mumbai s globalization. Before examining the reasons for Annawadi s lack of effects from globalization, one must look at some of the reasons as to why Annawadi faces the shocking amount of povertythat it does. In the novel, Boo writes, What you don t want is always going to be with you. What you want is never going to be with you. Where you don t want to go, you have to go. The effects would also be split in to time frames, whether they are short term or long term effects. There are going to be fewer positive effects in the short term but there will be more positive effects in the longer term. The negative short term effects of expanding the library would be the congestion caused by the original construction of the development. This construction would create traffic due to the closure of roads near the site of the expansions. Positive short term effects could be the opportunity of local students in Griffith University Gold CoastCampus to help with the construction planning or the design of the expansion. The markets at night would also have some short term effects also creating traffic problems throughout the campus. This would only create problems at the timeof the markets are being held. There wouldn t be any negative long term effects of the markets apart from the green space not being able to be used on those nights for the future. There are numerous positives effects of the markets being held at Griffith. The positive short term effects would create a steady income for those involved in the markets. • 16. Disability Issues In I Am Sam I am Sam is a great movie to watch in diversity class. It focuses on a diversity issue that is overlooked in society today. The main issue of the movie was that the main character Sam has an Intellectual disability and he is struggling to take care of his daughter. Intellectual disability is a disability that interferes with a person s cognitive abilities and the functions they use in everyday life. This includes everything from their social skills to the way they behave (Chadwick, Wesson, Fullwood, 2013). Society tends to forget that everyone has equal rights in America. In the movie they are basically trying to take Sam s rights away as a parent because of his disability. They believe that he is not able to properly care for his child being that his mental capacity is that of a seven year old. Instead of the justice system trying to provide him with the resources he needs, they rather just take the child out of her home. This is unfair treatment and a form of discrimination in my opinion. Another diversity issue in this movie is his socioeconomic status. Sam is classified as having low socioeconomic status. Due to his disability he can only work at fast food types of jobs which don t pay well. With him having a child to take care of on his own it limits his finances even more. There are not a lot of places that hire people with disabilities. If they do find a job the pay is low making it extremely difficult for them to live on their own, and take care of their family. ... Electric Guitar Research Paper With the increased pressure to go electric, many artists who played the guitar at the height of the Rock n Roll movement switched their acoustic instruments to electric versions. Unlike bass guitars, which can often be converted into electric basses, a purely electric guitar will not produce melodic sounds without the help of an amplifier which carries the tune produced through an electronic current. Electric guitars also allow the player to partially manipulate the sound coming to the amplifier through equalizing, distorting, and other methods. If you want to teach yourself the electric guitar, you are going to first have to choose which type you want to play. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gombrich sheds light on the fact that people tend to show differences in what they claim to believe and what they act upon. His theory, cognitive versus affective belief, takes into account behaviour and the mind to prove opposition between believed ideas and actions thus showing that actions can be as meaningful as faith. In 127 Hours, after being trapped in the canyon for multiple days with barely enough food and water, Aron carves RIP 75 03 ARON RALSTON on the walls after recording an introduction of himself and his situation with his camera. Yet, Aron still aims to preserve his food and, especially, water up until he ran out and had to resort to cutting his arm off to rescue himself. Aron itching such a phrase reflects his cognitive belief that he will die stuck in the canyon. Also, it symbolizes mental relinquishing and the vanishing of hope since it represents his tombstone. Furthermore, the fact that the first few sentences Aron records since his fall into the canyon consist of a plea to send the camera to his family also constitute to his cognitive belief of death. However, his cognitive belief does not match with his actions while being trapped, his affective belief. Instead of completely giving up through the consumption of all his sustenance and waiting for death, Aron fights to survive by carefully monitoring his food and water intakes. As well as that, Aron s constant trails of escape and methods of keeping himself warm in the cold nights disprove his cognitive belief of giving into death as his affective belief is centered not only on survival but also escaping alive and adapting to his current environment. Bartleby s Emotional Isolation: Bartleby s method of rejection is broken down in the online article Time of Our Lives: A Critical History of Temporality , by David Couzens Hoy. When Bartleby uses the statement, I would prefer not to [it] is neither an affirmation nor a negation. Bartleby is not refusing to do what he is asked, but he is not accepting the order either. There is a double negation involved, and because the only two possibilities are to say yes or no. Bartleby s impossible position of saying neither collapses into nothingness (Hoy, 174). As it is stated in the quote Bartleby is neither refusing nor is he accepting any duty the lawyer asks of him. This double negative statement makes it very difficult for the lawyer to understand what Bartleby means by it. By being so ambiguous in his meaning Bartleby can keep his emotions or feelings towards society, work, humanity etc. hidden from sight. By isolating himself emotionally and keeping his feelings out of plain sight he leaves things up for interpretation. Keeping his emotions inside is just another step towards complete isolation. • 36. Abortion Vs Abortion Essay Abortion (Roe v. Wade) Abortion should be an independent decision; no one should tell you can t have an abortion. Being that abortion is something very personal and very dangerous if not done correctly problems come out of it very easily. With that being said law suits happen which gets the court get involved, and laws are placed with restrictions on abortionare made. The judicial branch helped in every court case about abortion, by showing how the people feel and attacks the problems that are associated with abortions and what can be done to fix these problems. For instance the case between Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania and Casey over the, Pennsylvania s 1982 Abortion Control Act claiming that it violated the Court s decision by burdening women s access to abortion. In their decision, the Supreme Court upheld the basis of Roe while also deeming parts of the Pennsylvania law to be constitutional. David H. Souter wrote the majority opinion, which reaffirmed a woman s constitutional right to an abortion. But the Court also clarified that states could place restrictions on abortion as long as they did not present the undue burden test. In Casey, the justices defined as a substantial obstacle in the path of a woman seeking an abortion before the fetus attains viability. The majority determined that the waiting period and the parental notification part of the law was fine but the spousal notification clause was not. However the implementation of the undue burden test continues to be debated from policy to policy. In the case of Monday s ruling on Whole Women s Health, the test was enough to strike down Texas law. Legislation played a part in passing laws and looking at all aspects of the subject. For legislation to prohibit a specific abortion procedure, the partial birth abortion procedure, was passed in the 108th Congress. The partial birth abortion ban act is an example of Congress restricting the performance of a medical procedure. Legislation that would stop the transport of minors over state lines in order for the minor to get an abortion has been brought up in a number of Congresses. The courts did not settle the issue, the courts prompted debate and a variety of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Subatomic World of Quantum Mechanics Quantum Mechanics The Quantum Mechanics are weird, yet incredibly powerful theory of the subatomic world, in which everyday concepts to do with the forces and motion are seen in a different perspective, as they do not longer apply in the same way. This calls for a new type of mechanics based on what scientists call quantum rules. Quantum mechanics are a very complicated matter that scientists don t fully understand yet; they are in charge of studying the smallest faces of our world. The idea of quantum mechanics was developed in the 20th century by a German physicist Max Planck who introduced his constant, called PlankВґs Constant (h=6.62606957Г—10 34 m2 kg/s), which is used to determinate the energy of a photon. When E=hv (v=frequency). Albert Einstein, Niels Bohr, Paul Dirac and Werner Heisenberg later extended the theory in the 1920s. Trying to explain quantum mechanics is like trying to explain how the universe was formed. There are different doctrines but again, none of them is completely certain. Although it was a tremendous success to the researchers no one really knows how or why it works. It makes prediction in the microscopic world that go completely against our common sense. For example quantum mechanics state that an atom can be in more than 1 place at the same time until we look at it, since then we force it to make a choice on where he is. Also assures that an atom is neither a particle nor a wave, it is both and neither at the same time. All these weird ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

INDUSTRY FEEDBACK AND RESPONSE Critics of the US banking institutions have strongly criticised and blamed fair value accounting for aggravating the credit crisis, forcing the institutions to heavily slash the value of their mortgage assets, which resulted in weakening the regulatory capital ratios. The need to mark to market the financial instruments forced many financial institutions to incur large writedowns on the balance sheets. Without the regulatory cash cushion, inter bank and customer lending became severly hampered, thus creating a stagnant credit market. It is easy to make accounting rules the scapegoat when it comes to shifting blames. The reality is that had financial institutions adopted fair value accounting and its disclosure requirements early, they would have seen the writing on the wall. Monsanto is an American agrochemical corporation which manufactures pesticides and GMO crops. One of the most well recognized herbicides is Monsanto s Roundup, which contains the carcinogen glyphosate. To prevent from killing the crops when farmers apply Roundup to their fields, Monsanto invented GMO versions of many staple crops such as corn, soybeans, and cotton which resist Roundup. Like the weeds, these GMO crops still absorb glyphosate, however the crops are able to stay alive through changes in their genetic makeup which make them herbicide resistant. The herbicide tolerance of certain crops has been adopted because it, simplifies weed control to the use of a single herbicide and a flexible and easy management strategy (Labrada, 2003), as well as decreasing the cost of weed control programs. Al, 2014) discusses the concerns of the fact that many drugs that are successful in animal trials are not successful in clinical trials, most specifically, drugs used in cancer treatments. Animal models have been an important factor in the testing of a new drug before it is used in clinical trials, but many drugs that are approved in animalmodels are not successful in human models. It has been shown that 85% of early clinical trials for novel drugs are not successful and from the remaining 15%, only half are approved for human use. The reason there is a difference in results between animal models and clinical trials have to do with the inability of animals to identically mimic human body functions. An example of a trial that had a difference in results is the TGN1412 trial. TGN1412 was a drug used to treat diseases such as MS, rheumatoid arthritis, and certain cancers. Before used in clinical trials, this drug was first tested in mice. There were no complications shown in mice that would indicate complications in humans. Humans in clinical trials were given a dose 500 times lower than the dose given to mice and it resulted in catastrophic organ failure. Another study involving IPI 296 in patients with advanced chondrosarcoma was ended early due to the fact that it had no effect shown in clinical trials.
