2. Observational Learning Analysis
Observational learning occurs when an individual allows another s behavior to influence theirs; my
fondest memory of observational learning was when I learned how to ice skate. Peering at all my
fellow classmates, I learned that running onto the ice is the fastest way to injure myself. Reluctantly, I
decided to proceed slowly onto the ice and taught myself how to ice skate through watching other
experienced skaters. Even now, I am constantly learning in this manner like applying makeup or
cooking. My mother never taught me how to apply cosmetics when I was younger so I have always
relied on watching other; for example, watching a YouTube video to apply cosmetics. YouTube has
been a huge help.

3. The s The Painted Veil By W. Somerset Maugham
In his The Painted Veil, W. Somerset Maugham tells a complex story that addresses sex, infidelity,
marriage, personal growth, and life lessons. The tale being introduced in this literary work focuses on
the primary female character, Kitty Garstin, and her husband, Walter Fane. The central focus of the
story is the marriage between Garstin and Fane and how the two characters act and display their
feelings towards each other. From the very beginning, it is transparent that the distribution of love and
affection in the marriage in not mutual at all. Fane is completely love struck at the beauty of Kitty;
she, on the other hand, feels a heavy feeling of hatred and contempt towards him. While his feelings
towards her are common knowledge, her feelings toward her husband are concealed, or so she thinks.
Kitty s immaturity towards her marriage, her husband s happiness, and her lover s true motives land
her in a situation that she finds quite horrid. However, throughout the duration of the story, Kitty
begins to develop in both her self and her non self . When faced with the aspect of certain death and
despair in the cholera stricken Mei tan fu, the character of Kitty Garstin Fane grows in an exponential
rate. She finally begins to understand the wrongs of her previous actions, the wrongs of her previous
mental state, and the wrongs of her previous life as a whole. While she still cannot stand even the
slightest thought of her husband, she is, arguably, a completely

4. Comparing Explorer Vs. Safari
Comparing Explorer vs. Chrome vs. Firefox vs. Safari The internet is part of everyday life for most
people. It connects people to information that can be accessed from the web any time, any day of the
week. To connect to the internet, an individual needs a thing called a web browser, or browser for
short (Beal). A browser is defined as a software application used to locate, retrieve, and display
content on the World Wide Web, including web pages, images, video, and other files (Beal). There are
many different types of browsers that are used to connect to the internet, but in this paper only four
browsers will be talked about. These four browsers are some of the well known browsers which
include: Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. In this research paper, these browsers will be
compared to each other, comparing some of their benefits and disadvantages. In 1995, a company
called Microsoft introduced their new browser called Internet Explorer 1 to the market. Nearly every
single year until 1999, a new version of this browser would appear. In 1999, something changed,
Microsoft decided to integrate itself with Windows 98 Second Edition and created Internet Explorer
5.0 (Neagle). Around the same time, this browser exceeded 80% of the web browser market share
(Neagle). Since Explorer became popular, it became a target to malicious attacks and viruses on the
7th version of the browser. It was discovered that there was a flaw that could allow criminals to take
control of

The Palo Verde Healthcare District (along with three of its board members) were happy to receive a
victorious result recently from the U.S. District Court s final ruling in their favor. The court ruled that
the plaintiffs in the retaliation lawsuit, Peter Klune, Dennis Rutherford and Tara Barth, were not able
to sufficiently prove their claims of retaliation. In their ruling, the court made it clear that they felt that
the plaintiffs failed to meet the burden of proof against the hospital and the three board members:
Samuel Burton, Trina Sartin and Sandra Hudson. The hospital and its board members stated that the
entire ordeal was taken very seriously and that they were very gratified by the final ruling. They also

one of the plaintiffs in the case. Other violations were also alleged and reported to the U.S. Attorney,
the Riverside County District Attorney and Office of Inspector General of the U.S. Health and Human

8. Jim Crow Laws And Anti-Miscegenation Laws
Enacted by lawmakers bitter about the loss against the North, Jim Crow Laws blatantly favored whites
and repressed those of color as many refused to welcome blacks into civic life, still believing them to
be inferior. These laws were essentially a legalized legislative barrier to the freedom promised by our
constitution, and the newly won war against the southern states to end slavery. This institutionalized
form of inequality spread like a wildfire in the subsequent decades, separating the races in every way
imaginable; in all walks of life. Although these laws varied from state to state, we see a common trend
of laws keeping blacks and whites separated, particularly in social settings and social institutions.
Some of these laws include but are not limited to marriage, hospitalization, restrooms, public
transportation, and prisons; all of which isolating blacks from whites. We even find laws regarding
liquor licensing such as a law in Georgia which required all persons licensed to sell alcohol, to serve
exclusively whites or exclusively colored people; prohibiting sales to the two races simultaneously
(NPS, 2015). Laws such as this were not few and far between. Segregation of blacks became a
defining custom in nearly every aspect of life in the mid nineteenth century well into the mid twentieth
century.
When reviewing the history of these laws and researching their application throughout the various
states, one law stood out to me as remarkably insensitive:

9. Ticks Research Papers
Ticks are very important and harmful blood sucking external parasites of mammals, birds and reptiles
throughout the woria (Furman and Loomis, 1984). The medical and economic importance of ticks had
long been recognized due to their ability to transmit diseases to humans and animals. Ticks belong to
phylum, Aarthropoda and make up the largest collection of creatures in order Acarina. They are
divided into two groups: soft ticks (Argasidae) and hard ticks (Ixodidae). Hard ticks feed for extended
periods of time on their hosts, varying from several days to weeks, depending on factors like life
stage, host type, and species of tick. The outside surface of hard ticks actually grows to accommodate
the large volume of blood ingested which in adult ticks, may be anywhere from 200 to 600 times their
unfed body weight (Sonenshine, 1991). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The outside surface of soft ticks expands, but does not grow to accommodate the large volume of

10. Cyp27a1 Essay
Answer: Cytochrome P450 27A1 (CYP27A1) is an important cytochrome P450 enzyme which is
solely responsible for converting cholesterol to 27 hydroxoycholesterol. 27 hydroxycholesterol is an
oxysterol which can modulate estrogen and liver X receptors in a tissue specific manner. Moreover,
when 27 hydroxoycholesterol level is increased, estrogen and liver X receptors mediate adverse
effects of 27 hydroxoycholesterol in breast cancer. Therefore, regulation of CYP27A1 could be
potential target against breast cancer. The authors studied the regulation of CYP27A1 by 26 drugs
from different therapeutic segment. During their study they showed some strengths as well as some
limitation. 2 pros and 2 cons of this study are elaborated below.
Pros
1. Study ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Drug binding assays: Spectrum of CYP27A1 changes due to the change between P450 heme iron and
a molecule in the sixth heme ligand. A water molecule is placed in that sixth heme ligand for a resting
state and substrate free P450 enzyme. Displacement of this water molecule or occupying by another
function group makes a spectrum difference for P450 enzyme. The authors used spectral analysis for
all 26 drugs to find out the CYP27A1 response to those drugs. In addition to screening enzyme assay,
spectral analysis of 26 drugs strengthens the paper.
Cons
1. Assessment of the CYP27A1 expression: The authors stated that CYP27A1 is the only enzyme
which converts cholesterol to 27 hydroxycholesterol in human. So they have measured the
concentrations of 27 hydroxycholesterol and cholesterol in mice. They interpreted CYP27A1
inhibition from those concentrations. However, they did not mention that CYP27A1 is the only
enzyme which converts cholesterol to 27 hydroxycholesterol in mice too. Therefore, we are not sure
that the only concentration of 27 hydroxycholesterol will make the authors conclusion valid.
The authors could use CYP27A1 knocked out mice to find the effect of the drugs on cholesterol
conversion without the CYP27A1 enzyme activity. In addition to that, they also could measure the
CYP27A1 mRNA expression for the drug treatments, to find the effect on CYP27A1 enzyme

Women s Oppression in Muslim Culture
Many people have the chance to be great citizens, however their actions of oppression towards others

have been treated poorly for a long time, there is still hope that women will have better rights than

14. Assess The Difference Between Democracy And Totalitarianism
Authoritarianism is a political system in which a leader or a small elite group contains all real power.
Individual liberties such as freedom of speech, press, and religion are subordinate to the authority of
which citizens are blindly compliant to, as opposed to enjoying at will. Therefore, the people s main
role in the government is to execute rather than engage. Authoritarianism is described as being a
strong central government, which is essentially the exact opposite of democracy.
There are several types of authoritative regimes that can be divided up into two categories, which are:
autocracy and oligarchy. An autocracy is the rule by a single person and totalitarian government or
dictatorship, monarchy, and constitutional monarchy are all examples of this. A totalitarian
government or dictatorship is as the name implies when every part of the government is totally and
completely controlled by one person. Adolf Hitler of Germany, Joseph Stalin of Russia were both
dictators. A monarchy is when a king, queen, emperor or empress contains absolute power. An ...

successful of an authoritarian regime. Despite China being controlled by the communist party, it has a

Abuse is a serious problem worldwide and happens countless times on a daily basis. Information
regarding how to deal with violence and aggression is vital to our personal well being. Abuse comes in
numerous styles and does not discriminate against anybody; violence can and often does happen to
people in every type of lifestyle, culture, occupation, social class, religion and age group. Abuse, or
violence, is considered to be any intentional and unwanted contact. Violence is a major public health
problem in the United States, from infants to the elderly, it affects people in all stages of life. Violence
is portrayed in the media, movies, and shows on television today. For instance, television presents so
much violence that it has become so well adapted and practiced in our society that it is no longer
viewed as completely repulsive and appalling to the human mind. Violence throughout various
television programing continues to become more accepted. We, as a society, have gradually become
numb to the consequences caused by brutality. As a result, it gives an indeterminate percentage of
society the notion that violence is totally normal and socially acceptable.
Hostile creatures going out causing harm to individuals with poor reasoning or without any particular
explanation at all is justifiable in the eyes of immoral culprits. Observing violence primes individuals
for aggressive behavior by triggering violence related thoughts. The information provided up to this

Outsourcing is a practice used by different companies to reduce costs by transferring portions of work
to outside suppliers rather than completing it internally. (Investopedia) Outsourcing jobs has become
increasingly popular in the economic realm of the world since the mid 20th century and has since then
become a more controversial topic. The United States economy has been under the microscope for the
last 4 years due to the economic recession. In today s global business competitive environment,

Some economists seem to disagree with this idea, stating that the price of goods in the U.S are more
than the price of goods overseas. American companies have outsourced jobs to people in foreign
countries that are skilled and willing to accept lower salaries. This results in hundreds of thousands of
American people unemployed, in particular the semi skilled and skilled workers. Many companies run
into a dilemma though when they outsource jobs. In order for a company to succeed, it must be
backed by experience along with customer care. When companies outsource jobs they essentially take
away the middle man who has been trained and replace him/her with an inexperienced person who
now has to learn all of the rules and regulations. This comes at a price to the company, causing them to
come out even or even in deficit because of the time spent and money spent to train these employees.
Many IT companies have outsourced jobs to India and the Philippines for the sole purpose of
customer care and call service. Taking away these jobs from the American people will only cause
them to fall into the lower quartile of the economy, giving them no reason to invest or to

Voltaire works Candide and Zadig ou la Destinée discuss the happiness of men and the philosophy
behind being happy. Candide suggests that men should be continuously striving for a better society
where everyone is happy, while Zadig ou la Destinée argues that a society where all men are happy
cannot exist. It appears that since Voltaire wrote these pieces, society has progressed and become a
better place but attaining the ideal of happiness for all men does not seem possible. In Candide, the
main character Candide, is taught to think optimistically about everything he encounters. So, for the

At the end of this novel, the main character, Zadig learns that bad things will always happen, and
sometimes they happen to good people. In other words, somebody could do everything right and they
still might have something bad happen to them. Voltaire argues that this is because there are some
things beyond our control, and while we might not see it, the universe always has a reasons for its
actions. Using this philosophy, it becomes clear that while we should always strive to make the world
a better place, we cannot make it a perfect world where everyone is happy all the time. For example,
society could progress so that no biases exist at all, everyone has an equal opportunity at achievement
despite their race, gender, or income. Everyone might be happy at least most of the time, but we
cannot stop people from dying, or volcanoes from erupting, There are some things bad things that

What I gathered from personal opinion from the statement was, America today is broken in many
different aspects. Let me elaborate on that. I feel that the way the world is today is corrupted by our
media and extra pleasures we feel are necessary for our everyday lives. Men and women today are in
disarray because of the upbringing they have had. I am not speaking on all accounts, just views I have.
Like I will point out dreams. Dreams people have today get thrown away on a daily. There should be

terrorism is, but we blind it by pointing the finger at random people. Terrorism is something created in

world terrorism is no problem. It s a topic of choice. People love to talk about as much as the

They created terrorism! The people who decide what country is bad? They created terrorism. So it s

a whole country for something a few people did. Before the wars did you even know anything about

21. Similarities Between Deucalion And Lycaon
In a Greek version Deucalion is warned of the flood. He builds an ark and stuffs it with creatures.
Deucalion also sends a pigeon to search for land, and the bird returns with an olive branch. When he
completes the voyage he gives thanks, and takes advice from the gods on how to repopulate the Earth.
In a more colorful version, Zeus was angered by the extreme pride of the Pelasgians , the indigenous
inhabitants of the Aegean Sea region, so he decided to punish them. Lycaon was the king of Arcadia,
which was a part of the Peloponnese peninsula. It was an unspoiled, harmonious wilderness, thought
to be the home of Pan. To punish Zeus for his oppression, Lycaon offered a blood sacrifice. Arcas, a
son of Zeus, was placed upon the burning altar. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They chastised and rebuked Salih, whom they had once adored. The poor and needy of the community
became His only believers. This caused the others to mock His efforts even more. Salih asked that the
rich stop oppressing the poor, and adopt a more virtuous behavior. A few more people accepted His
words. Not surprisingly, most of them refused to heed His warning, and instead began to harass Him
to cause a miracle as proof of the Power of God. Salih kept telling them to look around and remember
the numerous miracles God had already bestowed upon them. He reminded His people of the
countless castles and palaces they had built, and of their rich farm fields, and technical superiority. He
also reminded them of the fate of the Ad, and how they were destroyed for their similar, unrepentant
sins. Produce a camel from the rocks , they shouted. Still, He exhorted them to worship One God, and
be thankful to the One from whom all blessings flow. There was still time to turn from idolatry to

22. Love And Cruelty In James Hurst s The Scarlet Ibis
Love and cruelty are two feelings that are so different, yet they are very similar. Cruelty can be
changed and conquered by love, turning into a proud, and wonderful thing. Yet, love can still fall apart
against the harshness of cruelty. James Hurst represents this idea through his characters, Doodle and
Brother, in his work, The Scarlet Ibis . Doodle is born with a caul around his head and grows up
crippled and physically limited. Brother is ashamed of Doodle s limitations and teaches Doodle how
to walk, run, climb, fight and swim. Hurst uses the symbols of the storm and the scarlet ibis to
demonstrate the cruelty and the love in Doodle and Brother s relationship, ultimately showing how
even the strongest of relationships can end.
The storm is used to symbolize Brother s cruelty towards Doodle. Doodle is born with a membrane
surrounding his head, a caul. Because of this, Brother is embarrassed and ashamed of Doodle not
being normal . Brother so much thought of killing Doodle to remove his problem although he never
actually did. Yet one day while Brother is watching Doodle in his crib, he sees Doodle smile and
realizes that he does have a brother in there. This inspires Brother to try and teach Doodle how to do
basic things any kid his age should be able to do. After having spent a lot of time with Doodle, Brother
has an epiphany and realizes he did not do this because of love, he did it because he is embarrassed
and ashamed of having a crippled brother. Yet one day while

23. The Garden Of Forking Paths Theme
The infinite is a concept that is difficult for man to comprehend, yet in Jorge Luis Borges short story
The Garden of Forking Paths he does such a fantastic job of describing this idea of infinity and its
effect on mankind through his explanation of a labyrinth. This short story also can be used as
somewhat of a lens while reading Fun Home by Alison Bechdel. Borges story begins with frame
narrative but both stories are, for the most part, told from a first person point of view. This aspect of
point of view is very helpful in supporting the idea of infinite possibilities and infinite universes. By
writing their stories from a first person point of view Bechdel and Borges give their readers a glimpse
into the idea that each action, however little that action or decision may be, always has a reaction that
can alter the outcome of a persons life drastically. Each action, can have different outcomes that
essentially leads to infinite outcomes in other universes. A majority of Borges story is told from a first

In Borges The Garden of Forking Paths he shows that perhaps there are many sides to a story and a
person should not just choose one and trust it entirely. Alison Bechdel promotes a similar idea in Fun
Home, and shows that each action, no matter how small, can have a large effect on a person s life. It is
impossible to explain an exact outcome because there are numerous reasons why a certain result
occurred. While both of these stories explore completely different topics, they relate to each other in
underlying theme. Writing these two pieces in a first person point of view makes each character seem
somewhat untrustworthy, and this is why the idea of infinite possibilities is so relevant. It is such a
difficult concept to grasp and completely understand, however the infinite plays a much bigger role in
a person s life than they can even

Caring, respectable, valued and honoured are all traits desirable of an emperor. Augustus encompassed
all of these and went as far as restoring the Republican government from its once fallen state, but this
was all forgotten when Tiberius became emperor. Tiberius was corrupt by power and Rome began to
live in an era of destruction. As well, the subsequent emperors, Caligula and Nero followed in the
same path, portraying violence and negatively impacting the city of Rome. Their reign caused them to
be unpopular as each marginalized pietas, the duty towards the Gods, family, homeland, and
followers, which is highly valued by the romans. This can be seen through the actions and behaviours

hatred for his brother Drusus formed and he treated his wife poorly, depriving her of the dowry left to

mother became very ill, Tiberius showed no priority to visit her. When she died, he refused to attend
her funeral establishing a lack of respect and honour for her. Also outlining the betrayal of his family

Tiberius, being irritated by this disturbance, ordered his face to be mutilated with the claws of the crab

In her poem, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Maya Angelou The bird sings because it wants her
freedom. I think the caged bird also sings because she is bored or probable she needs distraction
because she does not have nothing to do alone. I guess the bird is also calling someone because she
might need something. Also i think the bird is ignored by the people that have the bird captured. I
think this paragraph has to do with The Long Walk Home because Odessa can not do nothing by her
choice. I also think she can t do nothing by herself in the movie. I think people should know this
because it s sad that in the past people had to do that for white people. For me i think the poem and the
movie are at least alike. Odessa cannot do stuff in the house because the owners might get mad at her
but the wife stands up for the black people for me that was a good choice because black people are
people they are not toys. Odessa is related to the caged bird because she can t go to places. This
supports my claim because people right now are not locked up for slaves. This also supports my claim
because black people are not toys they are people that do work for them to get money but what they
do in that day is not okay because they are slaves. My discussion is that slaves should be treated nice

26. The Similarities between Angelina Jolie and Beowulf Essay
Throughout time, heroes have stereotypically been described as men who possess qualities such as
courage, strength, leadership, and determination. Certainly, many of these characteristics have
changed as time has passed. In modern society, heroes can simply be average people who sacrifice
their own happiness for the welfare of others and do their best to create a change in the world.
Beowulf, an extraordinary warrior in the Anglo Saxon period, is an epic hero because of his pride,
strength and courage. He fought many battles in order to protect the Danes from chaos. Angelina Jolie,
like Beowulf, is a hero because she defeats every impediment to help and fight against inequality.

He did not give up while fighting with the brawny monster Grendel, even though Grendel clutched at
[him] with his claws (Beowulf 428). According to Milena Veselinovico, the author of leading women,
Angelina Jolie has risked her life to protect refugees in many countries in Africa. She went to Sudan
during a tremendous conflict and Chad during the civil war. She could have been assassinated, but her
thirst of justice could not be sate easily; she kept helping no matter the circumstances. In able to be a
hero, one must be internally strong to triumph obstacles life brings and never back down when
conflicts arrive.
Heroes often combat injustice to win equality and peace. Beowulf saves the Danes by fighting the
monster Grendel, but Angelina Jolie saves refugees by fighting the figurative monster of inequality. In
the mead hall, the place the Anglo Saxon warriors celebrated their battles, everyone was terrified to
fight Grendel because he was powerful and seemingly undefeatable. Beowulf fought the abominable
beast and obtained the glory of tranquility for the Danes because he wanted to live in greatness and
courage (368 369). Angelina Jolie keeps fighting with the invincible monster of inequality that is
happening in some parts of Africa and gives part of her fortune to refugees who suffer from hunger
and persecution. A hero does not need to fight a monster, sometimes the injustice is the monster itself.

Sam Robert in the article A decade of fear argues that Mccarthyism turned Americans against each

internal conflicts. The author s purpose is to point out a vulnerable point in American history in order
to demonstrate how Americans fell prey to Mccarthy s propaganda. The author writes in a direct and
cynical tone for an educated audience. I Strongly agree with Rogers. Mccarthyism caused Americans
to turn on each other because it sparked and strengthened the fear of there being communist spies in
the government. As well as inciting Americans to hunt and expose communists or anyone they thought
to be communist and plunging Americans into a mass hysteria.
Clearly Mccarthyism planted the fear of there being communist spies in the government. For example
Mccarthy stated I have here in hand a list of of 205, a list of names that were made known to the
Secretary of State as being members of the Communist Party and who nevertheless are still working

29. Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Market Economy
Market Economy A market economy is one of the types of economies. In this particular economy
economic decisions and the pricing of goods and services are done by the citizens and businesses of
the economy. The market economy is the complete opposite of a command economy. Adam Smith,
David Ricardo and Jean Baptiste developed the idea of a market economy in the late 19th early 20th
centuries. With a market economy the idea is based off of a supply and demand system with citizens
and businesses. With this system there is rarely or ever any government involvement. Almost all
governments nowadays have this type of economic system infiltrated in their economy in some way.
They will either have a full market economy or they will have a mixed economy which is most
common, this is an economy with some government influence but mainly based off citizens and
businesses. In my opinion I think there are advantages and disadvantages to this economic system. I ll
start with the disadvantages. One of the main disadvantages would be not having a deciding power or
having someone in charge to step in when something doesn t make sense or is a bad idea that becomes
undecided between citizens and businesses. Another disadvantage is that sometimes too much freedom
can be a bad thing, free reign to do what you want can be cool and nice until people start using that
freedom in a negative way. However there are also advantages, one of them being the absolute
freedom and the ability to do and vote

Today water bottles are marketed all over the world, and about 1,000 bottles are consumed every
second. In fact, it has been reported that 200 billion water bottles are sold globally collecting 60
billion dollars. Additionally, bottled water was created for being portable, because of ordinary tap
water quality, safety and health concerns, and as a substitute for sugary drinks. In contrast, bottled
water shouldn t be around anymore because they have become a health and environmental issue.

them being portable, alternative to tap water, and a substitute for sugary drinks bottled water shouldn t
be used anymore because they are hazardous to the environment, human and animal life.
It is ironic that water bottles were brought up for safer and purer water, but retains an exceedingly

Aspartame is about 200 times sweeter than sugar (Magnuson 633). Many foods are reduced in calories
from aspartame. Aspartame is created by joining aspartic acid and phenylalanine, and a little bit of

Phenylalanine is an amino acid found in many foods. Ingesting certain amounts of phenylalanine can
build up in the blood. This can cause other chemicals from getting to the brain that are important for
function. Aspartame is digested just like any other protein (Magnuson 645). Aspartame breaks down
into its basic components and is absorbed in the blood (Magnuson 645). Aspartame does not build up
in the body over time. The FDA has concluded that aspartame is safe for the general public, including
people with diabetes, woman that are pregnant or nursing, and young children. Aspartame is one of the
most watched and studied agents in food. It has been tested over 100 times before the FDA approved
