A Doll House Analysis
Simon Stephens modern adaption of the 1879 play by Henrik Ibsin, A Doll s House, has
allowed for audiences to experience the intense play in modern times. With Carrie Cracknell s
effective use of realism conventions and elements of drama, she has successfully displayed
themes of deception to the audience. The play follows the story of Nora Helmer, and all the
interactions between 6 other characters that follow while she maintains a major secret from her
husband Torvald. The director demonstrates combined use of elements of drama along with
realism conventions to effectively portray the themes of betrayal such as roles and relationships,
use of the fourth wall, and personal objects. Her effective use of these conventions has led to a
brilliant adaption of the classic play A Doll s House.
Cracknell s portrayal of Nora in the play is one of the clearest portrayals of betrayal. The role of
her character and her interactions with other characters gives the audience an insight to what her
character is like. Nora s close relationship with Doctor Rank is shown multiple times through the
show, such as this scene in act 2. Nora and Doctor Rank are left alone in the loungeroom, initially
they speak about his declining health and then progress to flirting with each other. Nora passes
him her new stockings, which is soon followed by Doctor Rank confessing his love for Nora. This
interaction between the two alone clearly shows the betrayal that Nora has committed on her
husband as she

Correlation between Gun Violence and Video Games in the...
The article, The Truth About Video Games and Gun Violence by Erik Kain discusses how video
games and gun violence correlates. The author opens up with someone by the name of Aaron
Alexis who resorted to gun violence while playing video games that contained violence. There is
a violent video game that scares parents and behavioral experts. There has been a debate on
whether people who play video games later have violent behavior. Throughout the years, video
games continue to show images portraying violence. Tragedies like Newton has caused many
well known people or celebrities to give in their input to why violence learned by video games
should be stopped or better regulated. People like Donald Trump, Ralph Nader, and Wayne LaPierre
claim that video games and violence are linked and can be seen throughout society. The government
has proposed alternatives to diminishing consumption so that violence might decrease in our
society, but with this they also want to understand the influence violent video games have on today
s youth. Although, many would find Mario and Pokemon to be the most popular in the video game
industry, first person shooter games are in fact much more popular today. Two examples of first
person shooter games that are popular in today s market are Call of Duty and Bioshock Infinite.
Even though first person shooter games are quite popular among the gaming industry, they still
contain violence. Research trying to prove that video games and violence have a

The Uninsured and Special Populations--Healthcare
UNINSURED AND SPECIAL POPULATTIONS
Introduction
There are 45 million (17%) Americans without health insurance. Uninsured and special populations
are experiencing problems mostly linked to unemployment, cost of health care, low income and
decreased employer based coverage. Also, many people are unable to find health insurance because
of pre existing health conditions. For some, citizenship status may also disqualify them for benefits.
One example is Personal Responsibility Act of 1996, which prevents legal immigrant population
and their U.S. born children to receive certain benefits. These people have since experienced
decreased access to health insurance, among other problems. Uninsured and special populations are
more likely to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, there is a high possibility of health insurance lobbying for their favored services to be
included in the approved plans. The Obamacare, say opponents, imposes a hidden tax where those
with health insurance will be required to pay for those without a health plan. It is a way of taxing
healthy people without calling it a tax.
Supporters of Health Insurance Mandate
Those who support the PPACA are majority Democrats. They claim that the government s health
insurance mandate is constitutional based on the Commerce Clause that allows the federal
government to expand its power in various ways by defining various activities as interstate
commerce. The government is not claiming an individual s property, but is providing a
compensation for the health premiums paid by each person (health insurance). Therefore, the
health insurance requirement does not go against the Fifth Amendment s Taking Clause that states
that the government cannot take a citizen s property without compensation for it. The supporters of
ACA compare the health insurance mandate to minimum wage mandate. Just like the health
insurance mandate that requires premiums paid to insurance companies, the minimum wage
mandate has private beneficiaries (employees), as well.

Looking at the chart the first dimension of culture plotted is individualism collectivism. This
dimension addresses how people define themselves and their relationships with others. Cultures that
fall on the individualism side of the continuum share four characteristics. First, such cultures
consider the individual to be the most important entity in any social setting. Second, individualistic
cultures stress independence rather than dependence. Third, individualistic cultures reward
individual achievement. The last characteristic is; individualistic cultures value each individual s
uniqueness.
The United States according to the chart ranks as an extreme individualism culture. In the story,

certain pipelines and areas. The Spanish influenced countries of Latin America and South America
are seeing the largest increase. The increased interest in the Hispanic culture by society is driving
many consumers to want to escape to the sandy beaches and the tropical oasis. The other trend is
the decrease in the African and the Middle Eastern Pipelines. Much of this can be contributed to

Zeitoun Fight or Flight
Is it worth risking your life to protect your belongings and property when a Category 5 hurricane
is barreling towards your city? Is it right to disregard reports about a storm because in past
experiences the news has been wrong? In Zeitoun by Dave Eggers, a man named Zeitoun decides
to let his family evacuate New Orleans without him so that he can stay behind and protect his
several homes, business, and personal belongings from Category 5 hurricane Katrina. Once the
hurricane passes, and he survives, the city turns into chaos. The streets turn violent and the great
city turns into a third world country. The power goes out for weeks, and there is no water. The
breakdown of all authority gets him arrested and he is soon thrown behind bars. Zeitoun should
have evacuated New Orleans with his family for not only did he put his business in front of them,
but also his shortsightedness almost left his children without a father. Zeitoun s belongings and
business items are all replaceable, but a father is not.
Zeitoun s stubbornness blinds him from the true power of the storm for he constantly dismisses
reports on how strong Hurricane Katrina is. A couple of days before the hurricane his wife
decides it is time to leave. She tells him of her plans and he immediately turns her down. As his
wife continues to bring up the idea of evacuating he reminds himself of past hurricane threats, there
seemed to be a half dozen storms every August, and they were rarely worth the trouble. This

Progreso Financiero
Progreso Financiero faces two critical problems. First, it is falling significantly short of its sales
forecasts (Exhibit 4), causing concern for investors and employees of the company. Second,
Progreso has not yet identified a clear path to profitability. There are four key drivers to
underperformance at Progreso Financiero: poor salesanalytics systems, improper human resource
management, poor managerial decision making and ineffective compensation incentives. The
collective result of these shortcomings is that Progreso s sales employees are highly unmotivated
and ill equipped to help the company realize its sales and profitability goals. In order to be
effective, sales executives need to have clear selling objectives and the ability... Show more content

Lastly, Progreso s agreement with Sears forced it to offer its customers a form of payment (gift
cards) that limited their spending flexibility and made the offering less attractive overall. While
expanding to merchant accounts increased overall volume of sales, it did so at the expense of its
sales employees. As shown in Exhibit 1, Progreso s merchant launch in September 2007
immediately precipitated a decline in its loan per employee ratio, well below the commission
threshold level. Previously AEs were able, on average, to reach or surpass 15 loans per month but
after the merchant launch, loans per month declined to 7 per month on average. Despite this,
Progreso made no change to its commission incentive structure to accommodate for the
differences in sales velocity by channel. Progreso faces two key challenges going forward. It
must satisfy investors by proving that it can meet its aggressive sales forecasts and it also must
outline a clear path towards profitability. Currently Progresso is spending more to acquire a
customer (~$177 CPA, Exhibit 3) than it is earning in downstream value from customers acquired
(~$100 CLV, Exhibit 2). In order to improve profitability of its customers, Progreso either needs to
increase the margins per loan transaction or improve its retention

Disability, Health, And Health Care Of The African...
Disability: When it comes to disabilities, causation, health and health care in the African American
community, much of their beliefs around receiving treatment piggybacks on their values and beliefs
in religion and spirituality, including traditional health practices such as healers and Root doctors
(Goode, Jones, Jackson 168), as well as believing in karma, folk tales, faith and destiny. While some
African Americancommunity members may see a child being born with a disability to be a
blessing, representing the family s emotional strength, as well as being a blessing from god for
the child is seen as special, many others view a child having a disability as an evil act or a
punishment from God, or other higher beings, for family sins (Goode, Jones, Jackson 170). Many
African Americans also embrace the scientific, medical and genetic explanation of disabilities.
However, depending on the various beliefs causing disabilities in the community, different actions
are taken in order to treat the child. While their is no scientific cure for some disabilities, many
African Americans may turn to indigenous practices such as calling upon root doctors to break
spells and release the body and mind from any evil, or trying natural herbal remedies. Furthermore,
many religious African American s turn to God to heal their child. It was interesting that the
chapter highlighted that while religious beliefs and practices have been associated with lower

Impact of John Stuart Mill s Philosophies on Philippines Society, Politics and Economy
Mendoza, A.; SocSci 2 WBYDX
John Stuart Mill s social, political, and economic philosophies are widely applied in the
Philippine setting. His conception of social liberty, feminism, political democracy and economic
democracy is practiced in the country, although not holistically applied or not well carried out at
some cases. Philippines, as a democratic country, adapts the libertarian culture that Mill believes
to be the best for achieving intellectual and social development. Every Filipino citizen is
sovereign and free to do what he wants as long as he does not harm others. Mill s proposed ways to

Most of the poor are deprived of their rights for education. Many are illiterate; many did not finish
their education. In this view, the goal of furthering knowledge seems to be difficult to achieve since
the poor, who is using freedom of speech, is uneducated and unable to understand knowledge itself.
Oppression of the mass is also seen in this perspective. The poor is deprived of their rights for
education. In this case, corruption and interests of the powerful could also be seen as the cause of
human rights deprivation in the Philippines. Mill s utilitarianism is again not well practiced by the
government as it hasn t been able to protect Filipino mass rights.
Even in Philippines economy, only the minority benefits from the fruits of business and
production. Economic democracy is not well implemented in the country. Economic democracy,
said Mill, is substituting capitalist businesses into workers cooperatives so that workers would
have more benefits and power for their own welfare. In Philippines status quo, the capitalist
system is growing and workers welfare is being set aside. Profits of businesses mostly go to the
capitalists, while workers earn a minimum wage and are not given benefits that workers are
supposed to have. The country s economic progress is characterized by development aggression,
where only the minority benefits from the

Teens And Gang Violence
About one third of every community experiences some sort of gang violence (Tucker). Although, it
may not directly affect one specific community. It is making a great impact on the new generation.
Gang violence among teens has become more prevalent in today s society. For example, during the
summer of 2017 in Lancaster South Carolina, five teenagers were murdered by other teens in gang
affiliated behaviors. Thus, resulting in imprisonment. The question is how we punish these teens.
Should they receive the death penalty for committing an act of murder? Or should they spend the
rest of their lives in prison with a chance of being released back into society. What is the value of
their lives? Understand they are in the prime of their lives.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Philosopher Michel Foucault s work Discipline and Punish speaks about the changes punishment
and discipline have taken. Punishment has always been used to discourage criminals from unlawful
acts. In the beginning, punishment was aimed at the body through things like corporal punishment.
Now with prison systems in place, the aim is at what Foucault calls the soul . Foucault questions if
these new methods of punishment and discipline are indeed affective.
Commonly the criminals who receive death penalties have committed an act of terrorism, hate
crimes, or murder. There are currently thirty one states in which the death penalty is legalized,
including South Carolina. In the state of South Carolina, by law, a person receives the death
penalty when murder is committed with one of twelve aggravating circumstances. A person who is
convicted of or pleads guilty to murder must be punished by death, or by a mandatory minimum
term of imprisonment for thirty years to life. If the State seeks the death penalty and a statutory
aggravating circumstance is found beyond a reasonable doubt pursuant to subsections (B) and (C),
and a recommendation of death is not made, the trial judge must impose a sentence of life
imprisonment ( Code of Laws ).
The support for and against the death penalty is equally weighted. Those who are for the death
penalty say that it creates both specific and general deterrence. Deterrence is the action of
discouraging an action or event

competitor of Patek Philippe but Patek Philippe is not a competitor of Rolex. This is because
Rolex has a strong awareness and sometimes wealthy customers are more attracted to buying a
Rolex because they don t feel the need to buy watches as costly as Patek Philippe.
What is interesting in this market is that there are no clear leaders. Even though each company s
goal is to make the more profit as possible, we can t define any leader since they have different
strategies and objectives.8 [ (Tower) ] For example, Patek Philippe s core ideology is to have
the most prestigious brand and to make the most expensive watch as possible, and target the most
prestigious people which is a really niche market. In comparison, Rolex s purpose is to be a more

Character Analysis Of Waking Life
In Waking Life by Richard Linklater, the main character has a dream in which he ended up in a
boat shaped car with two random men he had never met. During this car ride, he gets wisdom
regarding how his decisions ultimately shape his life through the words of the driver and the
decisions displayed by the random stranger in the backseat with him. While these things are
being decided he is shown in the film as always plain and boring, with the tone of his voice never
changing, the eyes always closed, and the lack of color, with no life attached to him compared to
many of the other characters. These actions show a lack of personal responsibility, always relying
on others to take responsibility for himself. Sartre says that relying on hope... Show more content on

Which correlates with the driver understanding of the concept that one needed to be their own
individual to live life to the fullest, and to rely on oneself. Linklater uses this Pirate Flag to
symbolize what type of human the driver has become and what he is now aware of about life to
display the freedom that any individual has. Linklater uses this driver to make a binary between
him and the main character, who missed countless opportunities of what the viewer could sense
parts of his individuality, for example the girl at the start of the film clip, where the viewer could
almost feel the sense of connection between the two of them, by the way the camera was looking
back and forth between the two,the zooming in on the eyes of each other gave it away. He did not
do anything during this moment, nor in deciding his destination. He let the others around him
decide for him his future. The main character during this incident was this bland face, that seemed
as if he was questioning whether she would do anything to him. Linklater shows this very
carefully in order to show this absolute deadness of a human whose individuality relied on others
to create himself. By using this strong feeling of love, it allowed for the viewer to see the
foolishness of the main character and the opportunity he was missing out of to create something he
wanted. One key moment regarding the drive would be the fact that a random person sitting right
next to him, decided his future by saying exactly

Case Study Of The Melamine Milk Crisis In China
Preventative crises occur again and again for various reasons. One of the main reasons is because
managers and top level business executives desire for profits without regard to sound moral
principles (Crandall, Parnell, Spillan, 2014). Unfortunately, this in itself can trigger an
organizational crisis. This problem appears in many forms, but the results are usually the same: an
organizational crisis of some type, stakeholders who have been hurt, and prevention that would
have cost pennies in comparison to the damage done (Crandall et al., 2014). A classic case of
unethical decision making and lack of crisis management concerns the MelamineMilk Crisis in
China.
This case begins with a Chinese company, the Sanlu Group, who was purchasing milk for use in its
baby formula. Over time employees of the Sanlu Group discovered the milk their company was
purchasing, was tainted with melamine (Crandall et al., 2014). Melamine is a product generally
used to make plastics and laminates. Unfortunately, management personnel working for the Sanlu
Group was unaware of the tainted substance being illegally added to the milk. However, the
melamine product is a life threatening product that can cause kidney stones and renal failure once it
is consumed. Although the melamine boosted the protein rating of the milk, it was illegally added
to the milk (Crandall et al., 2014).
Still unaware of the danger the melamine laced milk was causing to infants, the Sanlu Group
continued to purchase the

Usually, people use dams to store water inside of a reservoir. All of these types of energy can make
electricity using natural resources.
The East Maui Volcano is made of basalt, which is igneous rock. This volcano was formed from
magma erupting from a volcano. Eventually, this volcano will erode because of weathering and
turn to sediment. Sediment is small particles of matter that gets transferred to another place. Solar
energy is the energy from the sun that causes the weather. The weather makes weathering happen
which causes rocks to break down. Next, it will compact and cement to form sedimentary rock.
Compacting and cementing is when the rocks get pushed together to form a rock. Gravity moves
the sediment like in rockslides, mudslides, or waterfalls. Chemical energy helps compact and
cement the sediment to form rocks. Then, the rocks will get pulled deep into the Earth. It will turn
into metamorphic rock due to heat and pressure. Metamorphic rock is rocks that were once
sediment, but now changed. The rocks will melt partially because of the heat.

Rfid, An Automated Identification And Data Collection (...
Radio Frequency Identification, or as it is more commonly known, RFID, is an automated
identification and data collection (AIDC) technology. From access cards to passports to toll tags
RFID has now become ubiquitous as an integral part of our daily lives.
RFID is a small electronic device that consist of a small chip and an antenna. The chip typically is
capable of carrying 2,000 bytes of data or less. RFID technology has been available for more than
fifty years. It has only been recently that the ability to manufacture the RFID devices has fallen to
the point where they can be used as a throwaway inventory or control device.
It s been a decade since Wal Mart told its top suppliers that the world s largest retailer would
charge a fee for each pallet of goods they shipped without a radio frequency identification tag to the
giant Sam s Club distribution center in Texas. The bold initiative came at a time when many
technology pundits were touting the long term benefits RFID would provide, not just to Wal Mart
but also to its suppliers. Much like e commerce, hailed during the late 1990s as the death knell of
brick and mortar retailing, RFID systems were oversold as essential and inevitable, despite much
corporate resistance.
The hype cycle about RFID climaxed a few years later when it became clear the technology was
too costly and difficult to implement. A decade later, the hype has gone with the wind, but item
level RFID technology is playing a much more important role

The courtroom, where most of the action takes place, is the epitome of law and order. The

The Pros And Cons Of Human Rights Act 1998
Human rights were initiated for the protection of the basic civil and political liberties in the
general public. In the United Kingdom the Human Rights Act of 1998 came into force in October
2000. The aim of the HRA in the UK was to provide further legal effect to the basic rights and
freedoms contained in the European Convention of Human Rights. The rights contained in the
HRA not only affect essential matters of life and death, but also issues that occur in people s
daily life. Considering the broad range of basic rights covered, it is not astonishing that the
HRA is viewed as one of the most significant segments of legislation ever passed in the UK. The
impact of Human Rights Act 1998 in UK is critical. There are areas in the society that improved
from the Act but also areas that got worse. The HRA of 1998 has both its advantages and
disadvantages. Here are some reasons why the Human Rights Act makes UK a better place.... Show

Before the HRA of 1998, most people who suffered human rights abuses did not know that their
rights have been violated, and even if they knew, they did not know where or who to turn to for
help. The UK government educated people about their human rights and informed them of the local
and international solutions available to them when their rights are violated. Equality and Human
Rights Commission inspects human rights, protecting equality across nine grounds: age, disability,
gender, race, religion and belief, pregnancy and maternity, marriage, sexual orientation*. The EHRC

Biblical Worldview Of Humanity
In this paper I will be comparing the biblical worldview with a non biblical worldview in regards
to humanity. A biblical worldview foundation is Christ and not us perceiving the world. The
biblical worldview is based in our beliefs and seeing the world through Christ s eyes. I will explain
different theories of humanity along with the biblical worldview of humanity. I will provide you
with a Christian understanding of humanity but I will also show differences and similarities to
other interpretations of humanity. The first alternative theoryI want to speak about is the Animal
Theory. The animal theory says that the human primarily as a member of the animal kingdom
and derived from some of its higher forms. (Erickson, 2015) This view says that we have and
will go through the same sort of processes as other animals. It mentions that there is only a one
degree difference between animals and us and we will have a similar end. We are not animals
because the word of Godsays Let Us make man in Our image, according to our likeness. (Genesis
1:26, New American Standard Bible) If we look at this verse God mentions that we are made on
His image. Many argue that the image of God doesn t necessarily mean that we look like Him
physically, but that we carry many of His qualities like having dominion over animals. But, if we
look into this verse God mentions that He has allowed men to have dominion over animals, an Ape
is an animal. Let them rule over the fish of the sea and over

Hester And Dimmesdale
The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne is a Romantic novel about two adulterers, Hester and
Dimmesdale, who are forced to live with the repercussions of their sin. Hester Prynne is punished
by wearing a scarlet A which ostracizes her from Puritan Boston, leading to several years of
solitude. During this time, Roger Chillingworth, her vengeful husband, preys on Dimmesdale,
whose only source of repent is in his hypocritical preachings. When Dimmesdale finally speaks to
Hester again, they plan to escape their wrongdoings by fleeing back to England, where they can
live together as a loving family with their daughter Pearl. Although some may argue that Hester and

When Hester first traveled to the colonies, she was completely alone, and ...in two years, or

Puritan women, would have visited the church frequently, where she most likely first met
Dimmesdale. This young and attractive Reverend would have easily caught the eye of Hester
during their countless interactions in the church; she was particularly vulnerable, being alone in a
new land, and her only relationship was a false and unnatural relation (Hawthorne 66) with the
man she left behind. This desire for a companion was reflected in both Hester and Dimmesdale, as
his only source of love was in the churchgoers, and it eventually led to the ultimate malefaction: the
act of adultery. Some may say that Hester turning towards Dimmesdale during her time of seclusion
constitutes love. However, it only further proves that they more prominently felt lust, since both
Dimmesdale and Hester succumbed to their desires instead of listening to their religion and simply
comforting one another. True love can be defined not as physical comfort, but as being there for

The Sale Of Foreign Arms
POSITION PAPER
ON
THE SALE OF FOREIGN ARMS
1. This paper will argue that, in its current state, the sale of foreign arms does not support United
States (US) foreign policy. The sale of US arms exacerbates conflict in the Middle East and
contributes to human rights abuses.1 The Obama administration implemented a Conventional Arms
Transfer Policy in 2014 to control arms sales and prevent human rights abuses while providing the
weapons countries need to defend themselves in order to prevent the need for US boots on the
ground.2 However, these measures are not enough and US weapons can and do still end up in the
hands of terrorists.1
2. The Obama administration has approved more major arms deals by almost $30 billion in its
initial five ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Countries in the area have hoarded, are using, and are asking for more American arms. These
events have unleashed the possibility of a dangerous new arms race in areas of turmoil and
changing alliances.3 Some of the arms the United States sold to the region are being used in
conflicts. Saudi Arabia uses Boeing F 15 fighters to strike Yemen and the United Arab Emiratesis
flying Lockheed Martin F 16 s to bomb Yemen and Syria.3 Saudi Arabia in particular has
committed human rights abuses in its air war in Yemen. Amnesty International has called on the US
to cease selling bombs, fighter jets, and combat helicopters to Saudi Arabia. According to the
United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the conflict between Saudi Arabia and anti
government rebels has killed thousands of civilians, and two thirds of those lives were claimed by
Saudi air strikes.4
4. The United States has not ignored the role foreign arms sales play in human rights violations. In
2014, President Obama issued a directive called Conventional Arms Transfer Policy. It clearly
expresses that the United States should not sell military arms to countries that are unstable enough
that they might turn the weapons against the US or its allies. The policy calls for officials to
examine the risk that the recipient of the arms would use them to commit human rights violations
or that the arms

First, the part of the brain that is responsible for higher forms of thought such as language, the
broca s area which pertains to the production of speech, located in the frontal lobe, is much

Essay on Jocasta in Oedipus the King
The Role of Jocasta in Oedipus the King
Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he will receive the crown of life,
which the Lord hath promised to them that love Him. (James 1:12) Such is the proclamation in the
Holy Bible, and so was the proclamation in ancient Greece. Since the founding of religion, the gods
have sought to test those with power. Jocasta was sent by Apollo to do just that: to test Oedipus the
king of Thebes faith and conviction.
Throughout the play, Jocasta tested the beliefs of those around her by feigning disbelief in the
gods herself. Though she put up this false front, she did keep her faith. At the beginning of the
scene wherein a messenger relayed word of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jocasta proceeds to plant doubts of the gods by telling Oedipus the story of the Delphian Oracle and
the circumstances surrounding Laius death. Again, after Polybus death, she excitedly tells Oedipus
that his prophecy was obviously untrue, though it wasn t, and by doing so she attempts to hint that
the oracles and thus the gods are false. By planting this doubt in Oedipus mind, the gods are able to
test his faith, and his ruling power, through Jocasta a test which he fails until it is too late.
Why, then, would Jocasta be forced to perform such a dubious task for the gods? It is because she
tried to avoid an earlier prophecy. By tying her child s feet together and casting him out, she
attempted to defeat the gods, and this of course angered them. Her punishment, then, was to test the
beliefs of the very child she cast out.
Oedipus Rex was Sophocles attempt to show the Greeks that they could not avoid the dealings
of the gods, or they may be forced to conspire against the very people they should love most.
Jocasta was, in this way, a victim. Though it was by her own doing that this penalty was cast upon
her, it was not something she was happy to do, which becomes apparent when she realizes the truth
in her earlier prophecy. It is at this moment that she becomes aware of her punishment, and in
desperation kills herself. Oedipus Rex is a true tragedy in the sense that fate and

Diverse Characters In Cassandra Clare s The Shadowhunter...
Cassandra Clare s works, The Shadowhunter Chronicles, are full of diverse characters, and for
various reasons. One reason being that she believes it is important for novels to have all different
kinds of characters to reflect the world around us; because the world is diverse, the book she
writes must also be diverse. She strives to create relatable characters so that readers of any sexual
orientation, race, or gender are able to identify with her works. For example, Clare s choice of
writing her main character as a young female was made because she would have wanted to read
that as a teenager. Every character is created in order to give people, especially those who are not as
represented in the media, someone to look up to or relate to. Cassandra Clarecreates an important
series for teenagers to read as they begin to discover who they are; the inclusion of racially diverse,
LGBTQ+, and mentally disabled characters in Clare s The Mortal Instrumentsand The Dark
Artifices gives young readers a variety of different characters so that any reader can see themselves
in the novels.
First and foremost, I would like to emphasize how important it is to have representation in young
adult novels. A large part of the reason that teenagers read books is to read about someone that
they can relate to. Being able to read about a character who has a lot in common with the reader
helps the reader to not only feel connected to the book and its characters, but also to feel as if
someone is

The Age And Stages Questionnaire
Introduction Children in the early childhood stage are always striving for independence. They
are at the age where they are learning self control and starting to recognize the needs of others
(Ashford LeCroy, 2013). How do delays in development impact these desires? For my
developmental and biopsychosocial assessment I interviewed a 5 year old boy who I will refer to
as John. He was recently diagnosed with developmental delays, and currently receives speech and
physical therapy services. This paper will explore his assessment using the Ages and Stages
Questionnaire (ASQ), as well as how John s age and environment impacts his development.
Age Assessment Communication
During the assessment John s mother reported that his speech had improved significantly after
seeing a speech therapist for the past year and a half. She also shared that John was not speaking
at all up until February of 2016, and now he uses one or two word phrases. I saw this during my
time with John, where he was unable to form complete sentences. Instead of saying I want a drink
he would point to his cup and whimper. Mom encouraged him to use his words, which resulted in
him saying, drink.
John also struggled with following multistep directions that were unrelated to each other. We started
with an activity where I gave mom three different steps, then her and John preformed them
together. I instructed, walk to the window, touch your head, and come back. John was able to

Defining Psychological Disorders
Defining psychological disorders. Psychological disorders are behavior patterns that lead to
inability to function properly in life. There are quite a number of mental disorders but I will only
focus on attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder because it is the most studied mental disorder
and the most frequently diagnosed disorder especially in children. This disorder causes inability
to pay attention, difficulty in controlling one s behaviors or causes one to be excessively active.
A lot of misleading information about this disorder is everywhere in the communities and even
the society. Some do not even believe it is real and therefore it is important to understand what
this disorder is. Patients with these disorders will mostly act without thinking and therefore
impacting on their families and loved ones. The actual cause of attention deficit/hyperactivity

DVT Research Papers
Define (What is it?)A DVT is a clot in the lower extremities.
Etiology (What caused it? What is happening in the body?)Thrombus formation starts in the calf
and extends proximally. They mostly begin intraoperatively, but can also start a few days to a
month. A thrombus is composed of fibrin and red cells. The development of thrombosis can result
from endothelial injury, abnormal blood flow, and/or hypercoagulability. High risks include obesity,
prolonged immobility, cancer, smoking, estrogen use, advancing age, varicose veins, dehydration,
splenectomy, and orthopedic procedures.
A DVT in the lower limbs can be classified as proximal (popliteal vein/thigh vein) or distal (calf
veins). A proximal vein thrombosis is of greatest importance and... Show more content on

The Humane Association At An Animal Shelter
Bitterroot Humane Association

Research Paper
Imagine being a staff member or a volunteer at an animal shelter. Imagine watching day in and day
out as animals passed through your doors, the unmistakeable scent of desolation and grief filling
the room like a tidal wave. Imagine standing in front of the donation jar, counting the measly
offerings, and hoping they added up to at least five dollars. Ravalli County should do more to
encourage adoption of impounded animals, and supply more resources for, the Bitterroot Humane
Association. The BItterroot Humane Association is our local pound that takes in lost, abandoned,
abused, or unwanted companions. They provide pet owners with an outlet should they ever not be
able to take care of their animals. Then, these pets are placed back into loving homes, making
everyone happy. With a limited budget, they have to care for many, many animals. The Bitterroot
Humane Association does not give animals a time limit for being put down. Some shelters in
Missoula, for example, euthanize their residents if they do not find homes soon enough. Many
animals at the kill shelters are very loving and sweet, and deserve a little more time to adjust. At no
kill shelters, such as the Bitterroot Humane Association, they are not put down. Several of the dogs
and cats have been there for a long time, which is definitely hard on them. Finally, the humane
association also helps other animals in

Remoteness and Loneliness in Wuthering Heights by Emily...
Remoteness and Loneliness in Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
Emily Bronte loved nature and spent most of her childhood on the remote Yorkshire Moors near her
home in Haworth. Emily found that the
Moors were a place of peace and sanctuary where she could retreat to relax and follow one of her
most favourite past times, which was writing. However she knew that in a matter of seconds the
Moors could change into a wild and savage wilderness.
Emily chose this ever changing setting for her only novel Wuthering
Heights . Wuthering Heights tells the tale of two families living in and around the bleak Yorkshire
Moors near a small village, very similar to Haworth, called Gimmerton. This setting mirrors the

In this quote Heathcliff is describing his scorn at the petty argument between Edgar and Isabella
Linton that himself and Catherine had watched through the window of Thrushcross Grange before
they had been caught by the Lintons. He is obviously disgusted at their foolish behaviour and
cannot understand why they would want to quarrel when they have the best of everything. The
interior is also an indication of the high social status of the inhabitants. Perhaps Emily chose to
write about opposite families at opposite ends of the social scale, as social status was very
important when she was alive. Emily would have been very accustomed to the ways of the working
class and the much talked about upper class. Without the remote setting of the Moors
Wuthering Heights would not have been as believable and realistic.
If it were set in London or another large city it would have been impossible for Heathcliff to

Japanese Anime Vs American Culture
Recently, Japan s entertainment industry has swept the nation. With popular anime films like,
Your Name, and In This Corner of The World, it s no surprise that Japanese television erupted
over time. In chapter ten of, A Geek in Japan, the main focus is Japanese cinema. It introduces a
familiar, but new world of entertainment filled with action, adventure, and melodramas. This
paper will reflect on Japanese dramas and their storytelling, ass well as marketing and production.
After skimming through Garcia s A Geek in Japan, this paper will dig deeper into the world of

From family dramas, to high school dramas, action, comedy, the list goes on. And that s what is
so great about Japanese television, because there is something for everyone. Japanese dramas
really are different to American dramas. Today, a lot of American series focus on vampires,
zombies, or some random C.S.I. spin off. Now of course, Japan follows that pattern as well. But
there are so many series, mostly due to the fact that Japanese dramas only last about one or two
seasons, (Dunning, pg. 38). But some can go even longer. For example, the series Mito Komon,
aired all the way back in 1969, and continued to air years after, (Dunning, pg.

Racism Against Indigenous People
Racism Against Indigenous People
If racism to the Canadian Indigenous is over, how is it that 50.7% of Indigenous peoples have
reported moderate, or high levels of psychological stress, while sadly, 22% commit suicide. As
we very much know, racism is a big problem in our world today. It may sometimes be confused
that one can only be racist to another with a different skin colour. Not only can racial ideas be
affected or shaped through skin colour, but also religion and culture alike. That is why it is
commonly misconceived, that there was no wrongdoing or discrimination towards the Indigenous
peoples back when the Europeans first arrived. I believe that the Canadian government is not
doing nearly enough to provide our natives with proper the sympathy they re entitled to, causing
them to fall ever deeper into the hole of racism and misunderstanding. Using our history, I will
explain what happened to the Indigenous peoples of Canada and why they should be given more of
a chance in their lives to command authority and leadership, concluding with how we can help.
As the 16th century began, the Indigenous peoples were living happy and peaceful lives, respecting
the environment and the creatures within it. But with about 5 years time passing, the europeans
came, commencing what would eventually be the cause of all our Indigenous problems now a
days... so, what did they do? As the europeans crossed the border, they introduce many things into
the first nations daily lives. Firstly,

City Draft Riots
Throughout the United States there have been quite a number of riots in just about everywhere.
Riots are typically known as noisy violent public discordance to protest against a new government
policy or law or against another group. In a society such as America it is quite the norm for
populations to take matters into their own hand and riotto stop what they believe is an injustice
being done to them. Among the many riots that have occurred in the United States, the New York
City Draft riots remains the largest riot to have occurred. It also remains the worst riot to ever
occur in the city New York. (Cook 24) The Detroit raceriots are significant because it is one of the
largest riots experience by Detroit. The largest experienced by the United states in a three decade
period following the East St. Louis riots in 1917. The significance of the stonewall riots is largely
more obvious than the previous two. The stonewall riots were the first major uprising by the gays
and lesbians in the United States. The word stonewall has become synonymous with the start of the
lesbian and gay civil rights movement in the United States. (Carter 1) There is an abundance of
research done on the New York City draft riots, the Detroit race riots and the stonewall riots, yet to
my knowledge there has been no attempt to link those three major and effective civil rights events
together.

The Ethical Ethics Of The Court System
Abstract
This paper is going to be over the ethical misconduct that comes when working for or in a court
system. Daily there are criminals being sent to prison and being released from prison; some for
crimes that they committed, some for crimes that they were just there at the wrong time for. But
is there ever a time where people are sent to serve a sentence for a crime they did not commit?
The answer is yes. Many of the public do not have a strong liking for lawyers, judges, or mainly
just people that work within the federal or state government. Reason being, sometimes you may
have to question the fairness, equity or the integrity of the person to know if they are coming
from a good place or not. As a lawyer this may be hard to prove ... Show more content on

The amendments that were set into place were structured to give certain guidelines that were to be
followed by the judicial system and how it should be operated. As with the fifth amendment it
states no person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a
presentment or indictment of a grand jury nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be
in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be witness against
himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law this is to be
strictly followed by the system in order to ensure that there is a delivery with justice for whomever
is being represented.
Judiciary Duties and Ethics
When it comes to the ethical standards that are to be delivered and expressed it is not only the judge
s position to do so, but along with lawyers and jurors as well. The 12 juror system, though not
always works out in some cases, it is there so that when a defendant is charged with a crime, he
or she could be fairly tried by an impartial jury of their peers. Unfortunately, jurors can never be
100% impartial, some of are going to be biased in some way or another and will always be
affected by the outsiders. The average juror is either not capable of or not competent to accurately
decide what the manipulations of the lawyers mean and what the court room or the

Nowadays, United States is often associated with the term melting pot , which refers to the
assimilation of immigrants who were initially heterogeneous with their own distinct backgrounds.
Corresponding to that fact, racial discrimination has been significantly reduced within melting pot ,
in which people gradually understand the differences between them without aversion. However,
back in the past, many Americans conceived of Asians as strangers. They were not willing to
understand and embrace the biological and cultural differences that set Asian immigrants apart from
Europeans and early Americans. Coolie trade, which brought numerous Asian immigrants to the

Asian immigrants were willing to work although the only given tasks were menial that Caucasians
did not consider preferable. Asian immigrants way of life was laborious, diligent, and humble; they
did not complain about their given environments and quit their jobs like Europeans. Asian
immigrants had their own American dream to achieve citizenships and prosperity, and in order to
accomplish their goals, they kept on working despite harsh and unfair working conditions.
However, one distinction that can be made between Asian immigrants and American laborers was
there was no justice for Asians. They were purposely denied the resources to defend themselves and
influence legislation by Americans like Samuel Gompers who deviously published lies that
suggested that Asian immigrants were willing to accept the poor working conditions and low
wages in order to dominate over their competitors. Eventually, Asian immigrants began to dominate
the American job market; as a result, American and European laborers started to view them as
threats and lobbied for discriminatory laws which resulted in immigration quotas. In order to hinder
the success and progress of Asian immigrants, many Americans like Samuel Gompers viewed them
as strangers and prevented them from gaining equal protection under the law which further isolated

Ancient Greek columns?
This essay will initially look at the period prior to 620 BC to see if there is any evidence to suggest
that the ancient Greeks may have imitated another civilizations designs to create the three
architectural orders that Vitruvius wrote about in his Ten Books of Architecture. The next part of
this essay will look at each of the three columns to discuss their virtues in relation to proportionality,
structure and visual imitation.
The oldest of the ancient Greek classical orders is the Doric order. The creation of the Doric order
has been traced back to the ancient Greek Dorian tribe. It has been written by Anderson that after
the Dorian tribe took control of the Peloponnesos area of Greece in 1100 BC they then expanded
into every part of Greece kingdom including Crete. This would have given the Dorian s access to
the ruins of the Knossos Palace from the Minoan civilization.
One of the most notable contributions of Minoans was their unique column design. This column
was different to the Greek columns as it was wider at the bottom than the top. It was suggested by
Adams that the columns of Knossos were installed in this direction to ensure the trees didn t take

New York Public Library Essay
INTRODUCTION
The New York Public Library is one of the most revered institutions of a city with many competing
interests. To stand out of the crowd is a tough and serious task. Embodied in the Beaux Art building
on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Forty Second Street in Manhattan, the flagship building is
synonymous with everything that makes New York City, a world class metropolis, known the world

  • 2. A Doll House Analysis Simon Stephens modern adaption of the 1879 play by Henrik Ibsin, A Doll s House, has allowed for audiences to experience the intense play in modern times. With Carrie Cracknell s effective use of realism conventions and elements of drama, she has successfully displayed themes of deception to the audience. The play follows the story of Nora Helmer, and all the interactions between 6 other characters that follow while she maintains a major secret from her husband Torvald. The director demonstrates combined use of elements of drama along with realism conventions to effectively portray the themes of betrayal such as roles and relationships, use of the fourth wall, and personal objects. Her effective use of these conventions has led to a brilliant adaption of the classic play A Doll s House. Cracknell s portrayal of Nora in the play is one of the clearest portrayals of betrayal. The role of her character and her interactions with other characters gives the audience an insight to what her character is like. Nora s close relationship with Doctor Rank is shown multiple times through the show, such as this scene in act 2. Nora and Doctor Rank are left alone in the loungeroom, initially they speak about his declining health and then progress to flirting with each other. Nora passes him her new stockings, which is soon followed by Doctor Rank confessing his love for Nora. This interaction between the two alone clearly shows the betrayal that Nora has committed on her husband as she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Correlation between Gun Violence and Video Games in the... The article, The Truth About Video Games and Gun Violence by Erik Kain discusses how video games and gun violence correlates. The author opens up with someone by the name of Aaron Alexis who resorted to gun violence while playing video games that contained violence. There is a violent video game that scares parents and behavioral experts. There has been a debate on whether people who play video games later have violent behavior. Throughout the years, video games continue to show images portraying violence. Tragedies like Newton has caused many well known people or celebrities to give in their input to why violence learned by video games should be stopped or better regulated. People like Donald Trump, Ralph Nader, and Wayne LaPierre claim that video games and violence are linked and can be seen throughout society. The government has proposed alternatives to diminishing consumption so that violence might decrease in our society, but with this they also want to understand the influence violent video games have on today s youth. Although, many would find Mario and Pokemon to be the most popular in the video game industry, first person shooter games are in fact much more popular today. Two examples of first person shooter games that are popular in today s market are Call of Duty and Bioshock Infinite. Even though first person shooter games are quite popular among the gaming industry, they still contain violence. Research trying to prove that video games and violence have a ... Uninsured and special populations are experiencing problems mostly linked to unemployment, cost of health care, low income and decreased employer based coverage. Also, many people are unable to find health insurance because of pre existing health conditions. For some, citizenship status may also disqualify them for benefits. One example is Personal Responsibility Act of 1996, which prevents legal immigrant population and their U.S. born children to receive certain benefits. These people have since experienced decreased access to health insurance, among other problems. Uninsured and special populations are more likely to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, there is a high possibility of health insurance lobbying for their favored services to be included in the approved plans. The Obamacare, say opponents, imposes a hidden tax where those with health insurance will be required to pay for those without a health plan. It is a way of taxing healthy people without calling it a tax. Supporters of Health Insurance Mandate Those who support the PPACA are majority Democrats. They claim that the government s health insurance mandate is constitutional based on the Commerce Clause that allows the federal government to expand its power in various ways by defining various activities as interstate commerce. The government is not claiming an individual s property, but is providing a compensation for the health premiums paid by each person (health insurance). Therefore, the health insurance requirement does not go against the Fifth Amendment s Taking Clause that states that the government cannot take a citizen s property without compensation for it. The supporters of ACA compare the health insurance mandate to minimum wage mandate. Just like the health insurance mandate that requires premiums paid to insurance companies, the minimum wage mandate has private beneficiaries (employees), as well. 2010 Health Care Reform The U.S. government signed into law the Patient Protection ... • 7. Zeitoun Fight or Flight Is it worth risking your life to protect your belongings and property when a Category 5 hurricane is barreling towards your city? Is it right to disregard reports about a storm because in past experiences the news has been wrong? In Zeitoun by Dave Eggers, a man named Zeitoun decides to let his family evacuate New Orleans without him so that he can stay behind and protect his several homes, business, and personal belongings from Category 5 hurricane Katrina. Once the hurricane passes, and he survives, the city turns into chaos. The streets turn violent and the great city turns into a third world country. The power goes out for weeks, and there is no water. The breakdown of all authority gets him arrested and he is soon thrown behind bars. Zeitoun should have evacuated New Orleans with his family for not only did he put his business in front of them, but also his shortsightedness almost left his children without a father. Zeitoun s belongings and business items are all replaceable, but a father is not. Zeitoun s stubbornness blinds him from the true power of the storm for he constantly dismisses reports on how strong Hurricane Katrina is. A couple of days before the hurricane his wife decides it is time to leave. She tells him of her plans and he immediately turns her down. As his wife continues to bring up the idea of evacuating he reminds himself of past hurricane threats, there seemed to be a half dozen storms every August, and they were rarely worth the trouble. • 8. Progreso Financiero Progreso Financiero faces two critical problems. First, it is falling significantly short of its sales forecasts (Exhibit 4), causing concern for investors and employees of the company. Second, Progreso has not yet identified a clear path to profitability. There are four key drivers to underperformance at Progreso Financiero: poor salesanalytics systems, improper human resource management, poor managerial decision making and ineffective compensation incentives. The collective result of these shortcomings is that Progreso s sales employees are highly unmotivated and ill equipped to help the company realize its sales and profitability goals. In order to be effective, sales executives need to have clear selling objectives and the ability... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lastly, Progreso s agreement with Sears forced it to offer its customers a form of payment (gift cards) that limited their spending flexibility and made the offering less attractive overall. While expanding to merchant accounts increased overall volume of sales, it did so at the expense of its sales employees. As shown in Exhibit 1, Progreso s merchant launch in September 2007 immediately precipitated a decline in its loan per employee ratio, well below the commission threshold level. Previously AEs were able, on average, to reach or surpass 15 loans per month but after the merchant launch, loans per month declined to 7 per month on average. Despite this, Progreso made no change to its commission incentive structure to accommodate for the differences in sales velocity by channel. Progreso faces two key challenges going forward. It must satisfy investors by proving that it can meet its aggressive sales forecasts and it also must outline a clear path towards profitability. Currently Progresso is spending more to acquire a customer (~$177 CPA, Exhibit 3) than it is earning in downstream value from customers acquired (~$100 CLV, Exhibit 2). In order to improve profitability of its customers, Progreso either needs to increase the margins per loan transaction or improve its retention ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Disability: When it comes to disabilities, causation, health and health care in the African American community, much of their beliefs around receiving treatment piggybacks on their values and beliefs in religion and spirituality, including traditional health practices such as healers and Root doctors (Goode, Jones, Jackson 168), as well as believing in karma, folk tales, faith and destiny. While some African Americancommunity members may see a child being born with a disability to be a blessing, representing the family s emotional strength, as well as being a blessing from god for the child is seen as special, many others view a child having a disability as an evil act or a punishment from God, or other higher beings, for family sins (Goode, Jones, Jackson 170). Many African Americans also embrace the scientific, medical and genetic explanation of disabilities. However, depending on the various beliefs causing disabilities in the community, different actions are taken in order to treat the child. Impact of John Stuart Mill s Philosophies on Philippines Society, Politics and Economy Mendoza, A.; SocSci 2 WBYDX John Stuart Mill s social, political, and economic philosophies are widely applied in the Philippine setting. His conception of social liberty, feminism, political democracy and economic democracy is practiced in the country, although not holistically applied or not well carried out at some cases. Philippines, as a democratic country, adapts the libertarian culture that Mill believes to be the best for achieving intellectual and social development. In this view, the goal of furthering knowledge seems to be difficult to achieve since the poor, who is using freedom of speech, is uneducated and unable to understand knowledge itself. Oppression of the mass is also seen in this perspective. The poor is deprived of their rights for education. In this case, corruption and interests of the powerful could also be seen as the cause of human rights deprivation in the Philippines. Mill s utilitarianism is again not well practiced by the government as it hasn t been able to protect Filipino mass rights. Even in Philippines economy, only the minority benefits from the fruits of business and production. Economic democracy is not well implemented in the country. Economic democracy, said Mill, is substituting capitalist businesses into workers cooperatives so that workers would have more benefits and power for their own welfare. In Philippines status quo, the capitalist system is growing and workers welfare is being set aside. For example, during the summer of 2017 in Lancaster South Carolina, five teenagers were murdered by other teens in gang affiliated behaviors. Thus, resulting in imprisonment. The question is how we punish these teens. Should they receive the death penalty for committing an act of murder? Or should they spend the rest of their lives in prison with a chance of being released back into society. What is the value of their lives? Understand they are in the prime of their lives.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Philosopher Michel Foucault s work Discipline and Punish speaks about the changes punishment and discipline have taken. Punishment has always been used to discourage criminals from unlawful acts. In the beginning, punishment was aimed at the body through things like corporal punishment. Now with prison systems in place, the aim is at what Foucault calls the soul . Foucault questions if these new methods of punishment and discipline are indeed affective. Commonly the criminals who receive death penalties have committed an act of terrorism, hate crimes, or murder. There are currently thirty one states in which the death penalty is legalized, including South Carolina. In the state of South Carolina, by law, a person receives the death penalty when murder is committed with one of twelve aggravating circumstances. A person who is convicted of or pleads guilty to murder must be punished by death, or by a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment for thirty years to life. If the State seeks the death penalty and a statutory aggravating circumstance is found beyond a reasonable doubt pursuant to subsections (B) and (C), and a recommendation of death is not made, the trial judge must impose a sentence of life imprisonment ( Code of Laws ). The support for and against the death penalty is equally weighted. Those who are for the death penalty say that it creates both specific and general deterrence. During this car ride, he gets wisdom regarding how his decisions ultimately shape his life through the words of the driver and the decisions displayed by the random stranger in the backseat with him. While these things are being decided he is shown in the film as always plain and boring, with the tone of his voice never changing, the eyes always closed, and the lack of color, with no life attached to him compared to many of the other characters. These actions show a lack of personal responsibility, always relying on others to take responsibility for himself. Sartre says that relying on hope... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Linklater uses this Pirate Flag to symbolize what type of human the driver has become and what he is now aware of about life to display the freedom that any individual has. Linklater uses this driver to make a binary between him and the main character, who missed countless opportunities of what the viewer could sense parts of his individuality, for example the girl at the start of the film clip, where the viewer could almost feel the sense of connection between the two of them, by the way the camera was looking back and forth between the two,the zooming in on the eyes of each other gave it away. He did not do anything during this moment, nor in deciding his destination. He let the others around him decide for him his future. The main character during this incident was this bland face, that seemed as if he was questioning whether she would do anything to him. Linklater shows this very carefully in order to show this absolute deadness of a human whose individuality relied on others to create himself. By using this strong feeling of love, it allowed for the viewer to see the foolishness of the main character and the opportunity he was missing out of to create something he wanted. One key moment regarding the drive would be the fact that a random person sitting right next to him, decided his future by saying exactly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Case Study Of The Melamine Milk Crisis In China Preventative crises occur again and again for various reasons. One of the main reasons is because managers and top level business executives desire for profits without regard to sound moral principles (Crandall, Parnell, Spillan, 2014). Unfortunately, this in itself can trigger an organizational crisis. This problem appears in many forms, but the results are usually the same: an organizational crisis of some type, stakeholders who have been hurt, and prevention that would have cost pennies in comparison to the damage done (Crandall et al., 2014). A classic case of unethical decision making and lack of crisis management concerns the MelamineMilk Crisis in China. This case begins with a Chinese company, the Sanlu Group, who was purchasing milk for use in its baby formula. Over time employees of the Sanlu Group discovered the milk their company was purchasing, was tainted with melamine (Crandall et al., 2014). Melamine is a product generally used to make plastics and laminates. Unfortunately, management personnel working for the Sanlu Group was unaware of the tainted substance being illegally added to the milk. However, the melamine product is a life threatening product that can cause kidney stones and renal failure once it is consumed. Although the melamine boosted the protein rating of the milk, it was illegally added to the milk (Crandall et al., 2014). Radio Frequency Identification, or as it is more commonly known, RFID, is an automated identification and data collection (AIDC) technology. From access cards to passports to toll tags RFID has now become ubiquitous as an integral part of our daily lives. RFID is a small electronic device that consist of a small chip and an antenna. The chip typically is capable of carrying 2,000 bytes of data or less. RFID technology has been available for more than fifty years. It has only been recently that the ability to manufacture the RFID devices has fallen to the point where they can be used as a throwaway inventory or control device. It s been a decade since Wal Mart told its top suppliers that the world s largest retailer would charge a fee for each pallet of goods they shipped without a radio frequency identification tag to the giant Sam s Club distribution center in Texas. The bold initiative came at a time when many technology pundits were touting the long term benefits RFID would provide, not just to Wal Mart but also to its suppliers. Much like e commerce, hailed during the late 1990s as the death knell of brick and mortar retailing, RFID systems were oversold as essential and inevitable, despite much corporate resistance. The hype cycle about RFID climaxed a few years later when it became clear the technology was too costly and difficult to implement. Jocasta was sent by Apollo to do just that: to test Oedipus the king of Thebes faith and conviction. Again, after Polybus death, she excitedly tells Oedipus that his prophecy was obviously untrue, though it wasn t, and by doing so she attempts to hint that the oracles and thus the gods are false. By planting this doubt in Oedipus mind, the gods are able to test his faith, and his ruling power, through Jocasta a test which he fails until it is too late. Why, then, would Jocasta be forced to perform such a dubious task for the gods? It is because she tried to avoid an earlier prophecy. By tying her child s feet together and casting him out, she attempted to defeat the gods, and this of course angered them. Her punishment, then, was to test the beliefs of the very child she cast out. One reason being that she believes it is important for novels to have all different kinds of characters to reflect the world around us; because the world is diverse, the book she writes must also be diverse. She strives to create relatable characters so that readers of any sexual orientation, race, or gender are able to identify with her works. For example, Clare s choice of writing her main character as a young female was made because she would have wanted to read that as a teenager. Every character is created in order to give people, especially those who are not as represented in the media, someone to look up to or relate to. Cassandra Clarecreates an important series for teenagers to read as they begin to discover who they are; the inclusion of racially diverse, LGBTQ+, and mentally disabled characters in Clare s The Mortal Instrumentsand The Dark Artifices gives young readers a variety of different characters so that any reader can see themselves in the novels. First and foremost, I would like to emphasize how important it is to have representation in young adult novels. A large part of the reason that teenagers read books is to read about someone that they can relate to. Being able to read about a character who has a lot in common with the reader helps the reader to not only feel connected to the book and its characters, but also to feel as if someone is ... If imitation has effected the design of the Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian columns, how is this change seen? What relationships can be seen between the human body and the Ancient Greek columns? This would have given the Dorian s access to the ruins of the Knossos Palace from the Minoan civilization. One of the most notable contributions of Minoans was their unique column design.
