Renewable Energy Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of renewable energy is no walk in the park. The complexity of
this task lies not only in the need for a comprehensive understanding of the various renewable
energy sources but also in the ever-evolving nature of the field itself. Staying updated with the
latest technological advancements, policy changes, and global perspectives is crucial for
presenting a well-informed and relevant discussion.
The intricacy of the topic demands a thorough exploration of different renewable energy options
such as solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, and biomass. Each source comes with its unique set of
advantages, challenges, and implications, requiring in-depth research to provide a nuanced
perspective. Moreover, delving into the economic, environmental, and social aspects of
renewable energy adds another layer of complexity to the writing process.
Effective communication of ideas and arguments is pivotal in an essay of this nature. Balancing
technical details with layman-friendly explanations poses a challenge, as the audience may
include individuals with varying levels of expertise on the subject. The writer must strive for
clarity without oversimplifying complex concepts, maintaining a delicate equilibrium to engage
readers from diverse backgrounds.
Additionally, addressing the global context and the urgency of transitioning towards renewable
energy sources further amplifies the difficulty. The writer needs to navigate through the
intricacies of international collaborations, governmental policies, and the economic implications
of such a transition. Providing a well-rounded perspective on the environmental benefits and the
potential hurdles, including societal resistance or economic constraints, adds yet another layer of
challenge.
In conclusion, composing an essay on renewable energy demands a blend of technical expertise,
research acumen, and effective communication skills. It is a task that requires constant updating
of information and a keen awareness of the evolving landscape in the field of sustainable energy.
The writer must navigate through a labyrinth of technical details, global perspectives, and
societal considerations to present a comprehensive and compelling discussion.
If you find yourself grappling with the intricacies of such a topic, fear not. There are resources

Stricter Dress Code
Dress codes have always been taken into great consideration, but now they are
becoming an immense part of school requirements. For years, some schools have
created stricter dress code rules, while others have made more accessible rules. Part of
the administration considers shaping a stricter dress code, but others disagree. Yes,
students should continue to make smart choices about their clothing, but a stricter
dress codewould only result in more problems. We should have our original dress
code remain and not make any changes to it because it would restrict students from
expressing their feelings, and some dress code rules can be sexist toward girls.
To begin with, for people of all ages, fashion is a way that they can easily express

There were six interviews conducted in total with one participant wishing to remain
anonymous. The interviews were each 30 minutes to over an hour long. These
interviews will delved deeper into the education and possible apprenticeship of
ceramicists.
Participant Observation:
The participant observation portion was conducted by enrolling in a ceramics class at
California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) and interacting with the pottery
students and teacher. During this time, notes were kept about the way students
worked together to solve problems and the general discussions and atmosphere in the
studio. During the participant observation portion I also recorded my interaction and
connection to the clay.

The Feminine Mystique By Betty Friedan
In the book The Feminine Mystique, Betty Friedan brings attention to what she calls
the feminine mystique, or the problem that has no name . Through the use of
anecdotal narratives, her own personal experiences as a journalist, editor, mother, and
the interviews of many women from different backgrounds in order to unveil the truth
about the women of the 1950 s. The problem which sparked the second wave of
feminismin the United States is one that focuses on the inequality between men and
women and the undervaluing of women in both the social and private spheres. The
women of the time gave up pursuing their passions, such as getting an education or
careers in science or business in order to fit the image of the stereotypical stay at
home mom whose main goal in life is to raise her children while providing a safe and
comforting home for her husband. The Feminine Mystique, as she called it, was the
idea of widespread unhappiness of women, despite the preconceived notion that
women were happiest when they have a family. Throughout her work, she dives into
many of the problems associated with the feminine mystique and builds a powerful
concept of what would eventually be labeled feminism.
Friedan begins by pointing out how during the 1950 s the average age of women
when they married was getting younger and younger, and how birthrates among these
women were increasing. One would believe that this would lead to an increase of
happiness because the general population of men
Priestley s portrayal of Inspector Goole in An Inspector...
Consider the ways in which Priestley s portrayal of Inspector Goole and the way in
which he carries out his investigation of the Birling family and Gerald Croft create
dramatic interest? An inspector calls was written in 1945 by J.B Priestley. The play
is set in 1912 and centres on Arthur Birling, a prosperous manufacturer and his
family, who are celebrating the engagement of their daughter, when they are suddenly
and dramatically interrupted by the arrival of the police inspector. The inspector,
investigating the suicide of a young working class woman, uncovers each of the
family s shameful secrets that link them with the young girl and her death. Priestley

Written just after the war Priestley gives the audience the chance to go back to
their old ways of social classes and boundaries and face another World War or to
move forward with this new way of living, where everyone is equal and there are
no class barriers. The family have placed themselves in a kind of dolls house,
shutting out the rest of the world, shutting out any opposing opinions or any of the
terrible things that happen in the real world to other people . The inspector s visit
will be the catalyst that will shatter all of these fake thoughts and feelings, Mr
Birling in particular is very guilty of the selfish capitalist opinions which contrast
to Priestley s and later the Inspector s opinions. When the inspector calls on the
Birling family, they, and Gerald Croft are in the midst of a family celebration, all
are dressed in expensive evening wear and having just finished a their meal the
men are smoking cigars and all are drinking toasts to themselves, feeling full of self
importance, and rather pleased with life. Mr Birling is described as a heavy looking,
rather portentous man in his middle fifties with fairly easy manners but rather
provincial in his speech. He is very much concerned with his social positioning and

Caffeine And Amine Lab Report
In this experiment, I was unable to complete the tests that would suggest isolation
success. If the melting point of the experimental caffeine was tested, the experimental
melting point would need to be 238o Celsius to be successfully isolated. A melting
point lower than this would suggest that the isolate was impure. If a TLC plate was
performed on the crude caffeine and the isolate, the crude would have multiple
retention factor values while the isolate, if isolated successfully, should only have one
retention factor. If an IR spectrum was performed, the spectrum should only show
functional groups in caffeine such as amides and amines, and should not include
functional groups like phenyls or esters. If the IR spectrum includes functional...

This is different from just making tea because the goal is to make the liquid for the
centrifuge tubes as concentrated as possible. When making tea for enjoyment and
consumption, the tea is in a larger amount of water and is usually only steeped for
three to five minutes. Tea for enjoyment is not intended to be extremely
concentrated (in fact, most people would dilute the tea if it is too strong). In this
experiment, potassium carbonate acts as a base. Potassium carbonate would
dissociate into potassium ions (K+) and carbonate ions (CO3 2 ). Carbonate ions
would undergo acid base reactions with the tannins, which then allows the tannins to
be water soluble. However, this makes the tannins far less soluble in the organic
layer, allowing it to separate from that layer after centrifuging. Because caffeine has
dipoles, and thus is polar, it is likely to dissolve in methylene chloride because it is
also polar. This means that methylene chloride and caffeine would be in the same
layer after centrifuging, separating from the inorganic layer. Water in the mixture
exists in the inorganic layer and is used to isolate the caffeine from the tannins from
the tea

hindu death rituals
There is one thing that is certain in this lifetime that eventually we all must die. A
belief in the cyclical reincarnation of the soul is one of the foundations of the Hindu
religion. Death is viewed as a natural aspect of life, and there are numerous epic
tales, sacred scriptures, and vedic guidance that describe the reason for deaths
existence, the rituals that should be performed surrounding it, and the many possible
destinations of the soul after departure from its earthly existence (Retrieved from

The standard cremation ceremony begins with the ritual cleansing, dressing and
adorning of the body. The body is then carried to the cremation ground as prayers are
chanted to Yama, invoking his aid.
It is usually the chief mourner and the eldest son who perform the Agni or fire
ceremony. He circumambulates the pyre counterclockwise for everything is
backward at the time of death and lights the pyre. The death now is an offering to
Agni. After burning the corpse the chief mourner cracks the skull with a bamboo ,
thus releasing the soul from entrapment in the body. After cremation a thirteen day
ritual is done for the safety of the soul till it reaches heaven. Family read a holy
book called Bhagwat Geeta every afternoon for the deceased person. .Twelve hours
after the cremation, the ashes are thrown into a river, ideally the Ganges river, and
the mourners walk away without looking back. On the 3rd, 5th, 7th or 9th day,
relatives gather for a meal of the deceased s favorite foods. A portion is offered
before his photo and later ceremonially left at an abandoned place, along with some
lit camphor. On the 31st day, a memorial service is held. In some traditions it is a
repetition of the funeral rites. At home, all thoroughly clean the house. the chief

Sundiat An Epic Of Old Mali
In the story of Sundiata: An Epic of Old Mali, the male king, as always is the
dominant figure. Maghan Kon Fatta, was a Mandinka king who received a divine
hunter at his court. The hunter predicted that if he married an ugly woman she
would give him a son who would be a mighty king one day. He had three wives and
six children, three of which were boys and three were girls, one of his sons was
going to take his spot on the throne. Women always seem unequal to men and
basically live under a man s rule. This seems very unfair to women because women
do have an important role in this history as well as being involved in creating the
Mali Empire. Without women, the Mali Empire would not be what is was because

She wanted her son with Mahgan, which was his first son to be the heir to the
throne. She was not happy with the fact that Sundiata was taking that position that
she felt was for her son. She felt as though he was a threat to her son as soon as she
found out he was a boy. Especially since Sundiata was crippled at birth. He could
not walk and she did not think that he should get that position with his disability
because he wouldn t be able to fulfill the king s duties if he had no use of his legs.
She also always made snarky comments about Sundiata. Such as when Sogolon
wanted some baobab leaf, Sassouma said to her, Help yourself, you poor woman.
As for me, my son knew how to walk at seven and it was he who went and picked
these baobab leaves. Take them then, since your son is unequal to mine (19). It
wasn t his fault he was born that way but she would take any chance she could to
degrade him and use that power to make Sogolon feel lesser to her. So, when he
finally did walk years and years later she was very unhappy with his
accomplishment. So, unhappy that she wanted him dead! I want to kill Sundiata,
said Sassouma. His destiny runs counter to my son s and he must be killed while
there is still time (24). She wanted to use her power to have Soumosso Konkomba,
the leader of the nine greatest witches of Mali, to kill him for her. If

Ryanair s Pricing Strategy Of Ryan Air
Ryanair positioned itself as a low cost airline, which delivered services equivalent to
that of British Airways and Aer Lingus. In terms of service quality, they positioned
themselves in the same category as the aforementioned airlines, but at the same time,
charging a relatively low price when compared to British Airways and Aer Lingus.
Their strategy was to deliver first rate/ good quality customer services and offer
meals and amenities comparable to that of British Airways and Aer Lingus. The
second strategy was to charge a single fare ticket of IВЈ98 on it Dublin London
service, which was very low when compared to British Airways and Aer Lingus s rate
of IВЈ208 or IВЈ99 if booked in advance.

This reaction of Ryanair s competitors will be discussed more lately in this paper.
Given that Ryanair is a new airline, chances of survival will be slim if they engage in
a price war.
If all is in favor of Ryanair, they will be able to acquire a sizeable portion of its
competitor s market share for that route, as well as acquire new customers from other
transport options such as trains and ferries, by offering a faster commute. To compare
the price with competitors and consider this opportunity for Ryanair s service
between Dublin and London, Ryanair should estimate the cost and the possibility of
seats sold by using British Airways revenue and cost in exhibit 4 of the case study.
From the exhibit 4, Ryanair can calculate the possibility of seats sold by finding the
ratio of customers who do not book the seat of British Airways in advance and
compare to its own seats available annually. The British Airways average revenue per
passenger equals to IВЈ166.5. Also, British Airways is selling its ticket at the price of
IВЈ208, and IВЈ99 for early advance booking. Therefore, only around 38.07% of
British Airways customers bought the seat in advance, while the rest, 61.93%, paid
for full amount of IВЈ208. That means the round trip passengers around 309,633
persons out of a half million paid at the price of IВЈ208. On the other hand, Ryanair
would run only four
Flat Roofing
If you own a commercial property that has a flat roof, your options for a roofing
material are limited. However, other styles of architecture lend themselves to many of
the same roofing materials used on homes, but the material chosen for a commercial
roof needs to be evaluated using different criteria than you would use when choosing
material for your home. Fortunately, it is not all that difficult to choose the perfect
material if you follow these helpful tips.

Light colors do a better job of reflecting the sun s light and heat; dark colors absorb
more heat. A white roofreflects the most heat, so it is the best choice for lowering
your cooling costs.
( removed HTML ) Consider Avoiding Your Brand Colors ( removed HTML )
Speaking of colors, you might want to evaluate whether you really need to stick
with your brand colors. If your brand colors are red and turquoise, do you really
want your building to be so overwhelmingly extreme? Outlandish color schemes
can make it harder to sell your property if you need to move to another location,
and the other property owners may feel that you are lowering the value of their
properties or negatively impacting the neighborhood s prestige. Many times, it is
better to choose a neutral color for your roof; save your brand colors for lettering or
signs.
( removed HTML ) Avoid a Monotone Look ( removed HTML )
Trying to match the color of your roof to the color of your building is probably not
the best of ideas. First of all, a monochromatic look can be boring. Second, if you
fail to match the color precisely, it can be aesthetically displeasing. A difference of
even a few shades can make the overall effect look a bit tacky. Instead of attempting
to match colors, choose complementary colors for better visual
The Death Of The Funeral
The Death of the Funeral Business Rough Draft
In the essay The Death of the Funeral Business , the author Sandy Hingston
repeatedly illustrates the different roles that technology plays in constructing modern
funeral rituals. Over the past years, technology has become such a big part of our
daily lives, that now funeral homes are changing rapidly to fit in with all of the
technological advances that have been happening to the world around us. I believe
that in The Death of the Funeral Bussiness Hingston works to describe how
technology has changed the values society has towards death and decay writing about
how technology has changed funerals and societies view them.
The Death of the Funeral Business is an article explaining why the traditions of
having a funeral have declined over the past years. According to some of the research
that Hingston made, in 1998, only 24 percent of Americans were cremated compared
to in 2012, where over 43 percent of Americans were cremated. Throughout the article
Hingston explains why technology has been a huge impact on the decline of funeral
traditions.
Technology has advanced right before our eyes and most of us fail to realize, but
now we revolve around technology. When people died years ago, they didn t leave
much behind. For example, the only thing that Hingston s mom left behind was a
single photograph that she wanted all of her grandchildren to have. Hingstons writes,
Mom got her wish; her grandkids all have copies of that
Henry Ossawa Tanners Influence On African Americans
Henry Ossawa Tanner was born in 1859 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is best
known for being a successful African American painter during a time in which that
was rare. He changed how African Americans were seen in art and he branched out
and changed what people would consider to be paintings done by African
Americans. He enrolled at Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 1879, he was
the first African American there and attended fulltime. There was a lot of prejudice
and racism happening while Tanner was at school. In one incident, some students
tied his hands and feet to his easel and put him in the street as a public crucifixion.

Teletech 2005
Analysis Teletech 2005 WACC and Hurdle Rate: Risk drives required returns and is a
fundamental concept when determining whether or not a company is providing
appropriate returns to its shareholders. Teletech s policy was to use a uniform hurdle
rate across segments. This policy works well if each potential investment has the
same risk. Unfortunately for Teletech, investments differ in their level of risk and
therefore in their required rates of return. To adequately assess potential investments,
Teletech should implement a hurdle rate for each segment and potentially risk adjust

We feel that she is both correct and incorrect in her logic and that ultimately
segment hurdle rates are a better measure of return maximization. Hurdle rates are
an internal management tool and can be set independent of WACC. We feel that
the diversification of the company does help keep capital costs down which
benefit the company. However, the hurdle rate is the driving factor of resource
allocation. As more resources are shifted to the PS division, capital costs will begin
to increase along side risk. In addition, external investors and analysts have more
information than Helen is indicating. These analysts (36 following Teletech) and
investors often look at companies by the markets they are in. They specifically look
at the types of returns each of Teletech s segments are producing and are projected to
produce and compare those to others in the industry. This may be the main reason for
Teletech s stock price and P/E ratio not keeping up with others in the industry. Once
again we feel that Teletech should institute segment specific hurdle rates. Economic
Profit: Teletech uses a calculation of Economic Profit (EP) to measure business unit
performance as well as evaluate and compensate the business unit leaders. We use the
same EP calculation to determine if the PS segment is underperforming and
ultimately destroying value. Exhibit 2 shows the EP calculation for each segment

of his target customers was decreasing day by day. In 1983, Richard made a decision
of renaming the company as Best Buy Co., Inc. to make the store more appealing to

Father Stereotypes
Negativity Towards Fathers: Incapable Stereotype
Fathers have been degraded in many movies, television shows, and commercials
as incapable and incompetent. Stereotypes are socially constructed by society and
the media. As humans tend to label people by what we are taught and see through
the media. This stereotype arrived from the 1950 s and 1960 s sitcoms that relied
on the incapable father to keep the viewers entertained. The sitcoms in that day and
age featured a 5 o clock dad...with a newspaper as a face (Quindlen 101). In the
1950 s and 1960 s sitcoms fathers would be portrayed as coming home from work at
5 o clock and sitting on the couch reading the newspaper and most likely drinking
beer waiting on dinner. At this time period the fathers... Show more content on

As social media has grown over the past few years so have the use of the incapable
father stereotype and all round every stereotype. As social media exploded new
ways of expressing the incapable stereotype online videos show fathers incapability
in the household, not being able to take care of the kids or clean the house and
other household task. Memes and other pictures have surfaced the social media buzz
over the incapable father highlighting how fathers are seen as solely for going to
work and coming home and sitting on the couch and drinking beer. Much like the
way Peter Griffin is shown in Family Guy. Peter is shown in many episodes
watching television with a beer in his hands telling Louis to do something for him.
Many fathers can very well balance their work life and life at home. Fathers see
that they are not supposed to be able to handle both work and home but with many
more women working they have to pick up the extra task in the house to make things
work. Many fathers are fighting the stereotype when it is shown in commercials and
various television shows. Saying that the times are different than in the 1950 s and
1960 s when the stereotype was maybe more true than it is today. It is known that
now more women are out working that in the past leaving more men to help with the
kids and household work. Peter in Family Guy is shown as evidence that the media
today does not see fathers as the head of the household and fills them with a lack of
faith that people see. Although the stereotype is still famous in the entertainment
world as Family Guy is still reviving great numbers, society may stray away from the
stereotype in the
The Advantages Of Parallax
Tarandeep Reel Assignment 5 Unit 44 Parallax A parallax is used to measure the
distance of how close stars are, the term parallax is the meaning of a semi angle of
an inclination that is between two sight lines to the star and this can be observed
and seen when the earth is on opposite sides of the sun in its orbit. The parallax is
used by its triangulation that will be able to measure the position of the star that is
against the background of more distant stars, the amount that it will shift is 6 months
this is because of the earth orbit and this is the angle of one triangle. The diameter of
the earth orbit is the other side of the triangle. Then trigonometry will play a role and

above the atmosphere means you can observe much more with different wave

within the radio and the optic al range. The major disadvantage is the size. The
larger the mirror on the space telescope then the more light will be gathered up and
more detail we can resolve. But also we are limited on the size that we can

the design, but telescopes don t cause limitations in space they are only limited as

1.What criteria should the HomeRun team use in selecting among the many strategic
possibilities for the company?
a.HomeRun team should focus on technology because a today s great business must
keep up with the continuously evolving of technology. Something great would be the
launch of an application that helps stay in touch with costumers. A company should
differentiate itself form others by providing something that intrigues people, and do
not provide only the classic channels of communications like emails. Moreover,
staying update on technology in a creative way will put a company in front of the
others.

Should HomeRun continue to diversify by entering the global market or concentrate
on national partnerships with large corporations?
c.HomeRun should partnership with corporations nationwide because it can get
many beneficial factors versus going global, which would be too risky at this time.
First of all HomeRun will increase its credibility just for doing business with well
known corporations. Therefore, it will bring more costumers because people will
take it seriously. Then, HomeRun could improve its channels of distribution and get
to the market faster. This could be a good test for its services.
4.Given the saturation in the market and difficulty maintain brand equity, does it
make sense to create a self service platform that other companies can use to run their
own proprietary deals?
d.HomeRun is going through some issues and the sutured market is not helping
either. The company will most likely need a products improvement in order to grow.
A self service platform could help rise the demand because businesses will have
freedom to manage their deals, and they will need to pay HomeRun the commission

Antigone As A Strong Woman
Sophocles presents Antigone as a strong woman who is both dedicated to her family
and her community. Much conflict arises between these two dedications. In this
paper, I will give examples of Antigone s different individual responsibilities and her
philosophies and explain how they conflict with the commitment that she is to have
to her community and indirectly, her king. Ultimately, I will argue that Sophocles
demonstrated his ideas as to what values the Greek community should hold at the
most profound level through Antigone s internal conflicts regarding family, the way
of the gods, and doing what is right versus the commitment towards her community.
Within the first few hundred lines of Antigone, Sophocles shapes the reader s
perception of Antigone and her philosophical beliefs as to right and wrong. When
speaking to Ismene about her plan to bury their brother, she states I ll do what s
honorable, and then I ll die (Antigone, 750). Antigone s willingness to die for a cause
that she feels is honorable and right demonstrates what she values highest. Antigone
shows that the conflicting nature between her beliefs and the king s beliefs on how
to deal with Polyneikes death will not hold her back from doing what she believes is
right.
As a member of the Thebes community, Antigone felt a strong sense of responsibility
towards the gods and what they expected from their people. Antigone continues to
challenge her sister by declaring that Ismene is about to defy laws the gods
New German Materialism
The efforts of the Western Allies to eradicate Nazism in the West German film
industry in the years following the Second World War largely attributed to the
emergence of New German Cinema. By the mid 1950s, the persistent pursuit of their
political and economic self interests left the West German cinema in an economically
and artistically detrimental state, thus calling for government intervention. This, in
turn, resulted in the inauguration of the 1962 Oberhausen Manifesto. Written and
signed by twenty six young German filmmakers who rejected the traditional German
cinema, it emphasized their belief in the necessity for films to reflect the state of
contemporary Germanyrather than to entertain. As a result, they set out to create
artistically challenging films that effectively reflected the materialism of postwar
Germany, the state of various social classes, as well as the moral disaster that the
Nazi legacy left. In prioritising the production and distribution of these films, the
group were successful in gaining financial and augural control in... Show more

He employs music in a way that allows him to articulate ideas that cannot be
expressed by the characters through dialogue. For example, the recurring use of the

a way of communication. The song serves as a trademark of her presence in scenes

When the song is played by Officer 663 at the end of the film rather than Faye, it
represents the fact that she has left a lasting impression on him. Thus, Wong s

Essay on The Politics of Going Green
Sustainability, as it pertains to the environment, seems like an idea that would
appeal to everyone. The idea of conserving what we have, reusing what we can, and
developing new ways to more efficiently use our planet s limited recourses just
seems like common sense to me. Unfortunately, our representatives in Washington
D.C. have used environmentalism as a way to gain votes and divide the electorate.
Responsible management of our planet has become as widely debated as gay
marriage or religion in the schools. Like most social issues, sustainability has ardent
supporters and determined critics. Global warming has become the spotlight for both
sides of the battle over sustainability in American politics. Supporters of... Show more

On that day some 20 million Americans throughout the country held peaceful

the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on December 2, 1970.The EPA is
charged with establishing and enforcing environmental protection standards,
conducting environmental research, assisting others in combating environmental
pollution, and recommending new environmental protection policies to the

funding for solar energy and the continuation of Nixon policies. As the
environmental decade came to close and the Carter administration ended in 1981,
the new President shifted attention and funding elsewhere. The left praised Reagan
for his environmental record as governor of California but after entering the oval
office Reagan quickly began undoing much of the environmental progress of the
last decade. In his first year in office Reagan proposed a 25 percent cut in funding
for the EPA. Reagan was quoted saying trees cause more pollution than automobiles

Theme Of Foreshadowing In The Great Gatsby
Foreshadowing, in literature, is used to indicate a significant event or a series of
significant events that occur later on in the piece of writing. Often, the reader does
not fully comprehend the importance of indicative words and/or phrases until being
made aware of them later. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald foreshadows the inevitable
outcome for his main star, Jay Gatsby. The events prior to Gatsby s death all
foreshadow the final outcome. Almost every characters are foreshadowed with how
they end up. Fitzgerald uses imagery to convey hints and clues to Gatsby and
everyone surrounding him and all of their eventual destination.
Firstly, Fitzgerald uses a few incidents involving cars to foreshadow the
recklessness of Daisy, resulting in the death od Myrtle. In chapter three, Owl eyes
is accused of crashing his car in the ditch. When in reality, it was a man who was
drunk and disordered. Owl eyes represents a lack of vision within the story. Of
course, the recklessness of the drunk man with the car foreshadows Daisy s
recklessness with Gatsby s car. To further the foreshadowing of that event, Owl
eyes insists that the problem is not the tire, that is lying on the ground, but is that
his car is out of gas and requests that it be brought to the gas station: Wonder ff tell
me where there s a gas line station? At least a dozen men ... explained to [Owl eyes]
that wheel and car were no longer joined by any physical bond (Fitzgerald 56). Not
only does Owl eyes have impaired vision, but this also foreshadows when Tom,
Nick, and Jordan stop at the Wilson s auto mechanic shop for gas.
Before getting in the car, Tom argues with Daisy and Gatsby about the entire love
triangle. Tom insists on driving Gatsby s bright car with Daisy. Daisy chooses to
go with Gatsby in Toms car. Out of rage, Tom drives fast and recklessly. The
recklessness in Gatsby s car foreshadows the later recklessness is the same car, but
with Daisy at the wheel. Upon running low on gas, Tom reluctantly stops at the
Wilson s mechanic shop. Myrtle, from the window, sees Tom and miss sees Jordan
as Tom s wife, Daisy. Myrtle also takes note on the brightly coloured car which
foreshadows her misunderstanding of who the car actually belongs to.
All Things Run Their Course
All Things Run Their Course Everyone has a different perception of fate, some
believe it to be a predetermined path controlled by a higher power; others believe
their actions and choices determine the outcome of their lives. In Greek mythology,
it is believed that one s destiny is controlled by three goddesses. Clotho is the
spinner of lifelines, Lachesis determines the length of each lifeline and Atropos clips
the lifelines, condemning the bearer of the severed thread to death ( Greek
Mythology). Charles Dickens manifests his belief in fate in the novel A Tale of Two
Citiesas an explanation for the inevitability of the French Revolution. The plot of A
Tale of Two Cities revolves around the concept that the tension between social...

All three books are riddled with allusions to fate, including the progression of
Madame Defarge s character. Charles Dickens uses vivid description, personification,
symbolism, and character development to illustrate that the French Revolution was
carefully orchestrated by fate and caused by strained power dynamics between the
french social classes.
Dickens uses symbolism to highlight the many attributes including steadfastness,
silence, relentlessness, power, and ill regard that characterize fate, while
mentioning it holds power over all and waits for none. The following scene occurs
immediately after the death of a peasant infant that is crushed by the carriage
wheel of the Marquis: ... when the one woman who had stood conspicuous,
knitting, still knitted on with the steadfastness of fate. The water of the fountain
ran, the swift river ran, the day ran into evening, so much of life in the city ran into
death according to rule, time and tide waited for no man, the rats were sleeping
close together in their dark holes again, the Fancy Ball was lighted up at supper,
all things ran their course. ( A Tale of Two Cities, book 2, chapter 7, page 117),

Examples Of Biblical View On Ecumenism
IV.Biblical view on Ecumenism
According to Cloud, ...the Ecumenical philosophy is widespread, but it also patently
unscriptural for the following reasons:
First, ecumenical philosophy is refuted by the Bible s teaching on doctrine. 1Tim
1:3 states As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia,
that thou mightest charge some that they teach NO OTHER DOCTRINE. In other
words, there is only one true apostolic Christian faith and we have been given the
Holy Spirit so that we know that there is only one true faith we believe in and shall
teach
.
Second, the ecumenical philosophy is refuted by the Bible s warning of false teachers
who preach heresies. This is manifested through Paul s warnings about false teachers.
Not only did Paul do this but so did John, Jude, and most importantly, Jesus Christ.

John 17:21 that has been taken as one of the theme verses for modern ecumenism,
states, I pray that they may all be one Father! May they be in us, just as you are in
me, and I am in you. May they be one, so that the world will believe that you sent
me. It claims that unity which Christ prayed is an ecumenical unity of professing
Christians that disregards biblical doctrine. In John 17, the Lord plainly state that
the unity for which He was praying is a unity based on salvation and truth and
separation from the world. There is also nothing in Christ s prayer that man is to
do anything whatsoever to create the unity herein. John 17 is not a commandment
addressed to men; it is a High Priestly prayer that was addressed to God the Father,
and the prayer answered. It describes a spiritual reality that was created by God
among genuine born again saints who are committed to the Scriptures, not a
possibility that must be organized by man. It may also be seen that biblical unity is
first of all a matter of having one mind in 1 Corinthians
The Functionalist Theory Of Education
The functionalist perspective is based largely on the works of Herbert Spencer, Emile
Durkheim, Talcott Parsons, and Robert Merton. According to functionalism, society
is a system of interconnected parts that work together in harmony to maintain a state
of balance and social equilibrium for the whole. Functionalism is a positive theory
and in this case will look at how education contributes to the stability of society.
Sociologists usually begin their sociological analysis with the following questions; 1.
How does education contribute to the well being and mainetenance of society. 2.
What is the relationship between education and other parts of the social system.

Unlike the functionalist theory who looks at the positive impacts of education and
how it contributes to the stability of society, the conflict theory looks at the
negative, conflicted and ever changing nature of society. The functionalist theory
accepts the status quo and does not encourage social change. One of the major
contributors to this theory was Karl Marx. Conflict theorists are of the belief that
the education system is designed to meet the interests of the capitalist class. The
believe that society is made up of two groups; The ruling class and the subject
class. They are of the view that the rich and powerful, forces social order on the
poor and weak. This essay will focus on the functionalist theory as it relates to how
education impacts society through: Socialization, providing a bridge between
particularistic values and universalistic values, meritocracy and the labour force and
also from the conflict perspective and their views of how the education system
exploits the labour force, meritocracy is a mythand also how the education system is

Essay about Taking a Closer Look at the Golding Sisters
The Good Christian Award recognises outstanding works in a religious context. The
Golding Sisters (Isabelle Therese, Annie Mackenzie and Kate Dwyer) are worthy of
such recognition based on their brave plight for social justice and equality for women
at the turn of the 20th century. These women founded various organisations and used
public speaking skills, firsthand understanding of women s needs and Catholic social
teachingprinciples to sway opinions of those who didn t support women s equality.
Evidence of their work is still evident today with women in Australia enjoying
equality in society, freedom of speech, equal pay and vocations.

Unemployment and financial struggles grew with this increasing population. Male
dominance was considered the norm so women were left with unjust opportunities
for unemployment and equality in the workplace (Women s Diaries, 1997). The
Golding Sisters felt it was their duty to bring peace and equality to society so
established such foundations as the Women s Organising Society. By 1900, five
million women were in the labor force (Women s Diaries, 1997). The Golding
Sisters worked hard to remove discrimination from society, resulting in multicultural
immigrants participating freely in Church activities and masses. The Church became
what 19th Century Irish bishops hoped for; a Church based on the Irish model
(Dixon, 2005). Their work was often described as a practical expression of the
Catholic faith (Fawkner Kelly, 1995). Thus, the Golding Sisters should be
commemorated for their works that changed the society and church for the better by
receiving the Good Christian award.
The Golding Sisters lead by example through Catholic Social Teaching principles,
demonstrating at least seven of the principles, but focusing on two. Throughout their
lives, the women continually lobbied for the dignity and rights of workers. They
encouraged the government to listen, understand and finally represent the people as a
whole (Caritas Australia, 2013). The sisters fought for the respect they felt women
deserved; the right for fair wages, productive work, economic

portion of his life to writing multiple genres of stories. Throughout his stories, the
similarities in his style and technique are easily noted and identified. Two of the
short stories he wrote contain themes and motifs that specifically explain the
plotline. The first story, The Snows of Kilimanjaro, sets its scene in the depths of a
desolate area in Africa, where the main characters, Harry and his wife, decide to
make their home. After living there for a few years, Harry ventures out and falls into

The Short, Happy Life of Francis Macomber also contains the theme of arduous
moral situations for the characters. Margot, the wife of Francis, is challenged by
the temptation to have relations with their tour guide. Eventually, she commits the

Well, why doesn t he keep his wife where she belongs? What does he think I am, a
bloody plaster saint? Let him keep her where she belongs. It s his own fault
(Hemingway 13). By the tone of Wilson thoughts, it is inferred that he is not able
to find fault in himself and decides to blame it on the most vulnerable person,
Francis. In spite of Wilson being the only man to blame for this whole incident,
Margot can also take part of the blame. She appears to be a faithful and caring wife,
but her actions do not justify this statement. As stated in Short Stories for Students:
The phrase well kept is particularly revealing in its multiple meanings. On one hand,
Margot is fashionable and presents herself well. Furthermore, she is kept by her
husband in a state of luxurious affluence. Ironically, she is not well kept by her
husband at all, as she freely and unapologetically commits adultery. Her marriage to
Francis Macomber is obviously not a happy one. ( Short Happy 214) Margot is a

century in which Europeans embarked on extensive overseas expeditions. European

in global trade and set up many trade colonies and routes. Many people will say that
the European s only reason for exploration was to spread Christianity, obtain gold,
and gain glory through their conquests and acquisition of lands. Some people might
also say that the Ottomans heavily influenced the Europeans to participate in this

The Europeans were greatly intimidated by the Ottoman s increasingly strong and

European nations, similar to how they brought down the Byzantine Empire by
conquering Constantinople. The Europeans fears came from seeing the ease at which
the Ottoman Empire was able to achieve military victories. They believed that the
Ottoman armies would cause the political and social infrastructure of Europe to

Lebron James felt as if the Cavaliers GM was not helping the team enough, as they
could not get past the Boston Celticsin the playoffs. As Lebron went to Miami he
was able to win two back to back championships in the four years he was there. This
made things worse for the Boston Celtics. Not only were they losing every year to
the same team, their team... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Isaiah is suffering from and a non fixed hip Injury. Therefore, if Boston
wanted Kyrie that bad they had to come off more assets in the deal. Also, former
Cavs Star Kyrie Irving requested a trade earlier in the year and was said that he
basically did not want to play the shadow of former teammate LeBron James and
that he wants to go somewhere else where he can be the number one man on the
team. Everyone was shocked to hear about the news considering the fact that
LeBron James led them to go to 3 straight finals since he has been back in
Cleveland. Other stars in the NBA had words about the request saying that it was
crazy and that anyone would be lucky to be guaranteed a shot in the finals every
year. Why would Irving want to leave a situation where he could play with the
league s best player LeBron James? On the other hand, stars Isaiah Tomas and Jae
Crowder are more than happy to join King James and the Cavaliers at another
chance at a ring. This next season will continue to get more exciting to closer it
gets. The Pre season starts in October and everyone can t wait to get a sneak peek
and see the new teams in action for the first
Two Types Of Motivation Essay
Issue 1: Motivation
Motivation is a psychological force that helps to determine the path or direction of
a person s behavior. It compels an action toward a desired goal. It can be considered
as a behavior where people engage their effort towards their desired goal. There are
two types of motivation, internal and external motivation.
Internal motivation is said to be intrinsic motivation. According to (Carol, 2013),
intrinsic motivation refers to the pleasure one gets from the task itself or from the
sense of satisfaction in completing or even working on a task. However, extrinsic
motivation is related to rewards such as salary and bonuses where it is given to
employees by managers. Both of these motivations convince a person to put their
effort towards his or her goals.
Back in the past, China Airlines expects their employees to be loyal to their
company even there are better offers from other airlines. But now, employees like to
switch their job to other companies. It has become a big problem to the company.

(CAL). The trouble was attributed to its poor safety record in the 1990s that severely
tarnished its brand image besides lowering passenger traffic. For example, the case of
Flight 140 that was from Chiang Kai shek International Airport to Nagoya Airport in
Nagoya, Japan on 26 April 1994 and Flight 676 on 16 February 1998. However,
analysts felt the faulty pilot recruitment policies, lenient flight crew training process,
ineffective corporate culture, high cost operational structure, lax maintenance
systems and the cost cutting policies of the management which sacrificed safety
standards added to its woes. That will influence the performance of the organization.
In addition, the serious and strained political relations among mainland China and
Taiwan which prohibited the airline to routes in China only compounded its problems
from launching
Google, The Co Founder Of Google
Report: Google
1.Purpose
The IT entrepreneur I ve decided to research on is Larry Page, the co founder of
Google. This report covers the purpose of Google as a search engine, the
technologies that it uses for its searches, how it managed to beat its predecessors and
the hardware that it uses, both old and new ones. The reason why I chose Google is
because I ve been using it for a number of years now and I thoroughly enjoy the
experience of surfing the web with it. 2. Key Information
1.1Introduction
The idea of Google developed when its founders wanted to organize an infinite
amount of information on the web. It was first called Backrub , and later on adopted
the name Googol, after a mathematical terminology. The founders, Larry Page and
Sergey Brin worked on their idea for 3 years before deciding to incorporate it. It
officially became a company in the year 1998. Google started off as a search engine,
and it maintains its core business until now. The main benefits of having a search
engine include quick results for intended searches, as search engines extract
information from the web and display in an organized manner.
Google quickly became the most popular search engine due to several reasons.
Firstly, this is due to speed of delivering search results. When it first launched, Google
used several different computers to
The Myth Of Apollo And Daphne
Jackson DeBord P.2 Artist Statements Eros: For Eros, the god of love, I chose to do
his perspective on the myth of Apollo and Daphne. I made him resent Apollo for
being a braggart, and had Eros sound like his pride was hurt by Apollo s gloating.
He was just retaliating for Apollo s arrogance. For my picture of Eros I decided to
make him look like a child. I also made him hold both a torch, which is mentioned
in the original story and which I mentioned in my rendition, and a bow with a
quiver of arrows slung on his back, which is also referenced in both the original
and my telling of the myth. I decided to make the background of Eros a
combination of warm colors to represent the fire and passion of love. Nemesis: I
decided to do the myth of Narcissus and Echo from Nemesis s point of view for a
story of her. I tried to make her sound a little defensive because she has to give bad
fortune, which no one likes, and she is considered mean because of this, even
though she is only doing her duty and keeping balance and order maintained by
controlling fortunes. Nemesis is the goddess of divine retribution and justice and I
decided to incorporate this in my artwork by giving her a full body nimbus, the glow
depicted around holy figure s head in art, to emphasize her divine aspect. I also gave
her a balance and sword to show, like in my story, she is just trying to keep order, but
she will be forceful or violent in doing so. Hekate: For Hekate I decided to do the
fairly famous
Animal Farm Character Analysis
Animal Farm, written by George Orwell in 1945 and performed at the All Saint s
College centre of performing arts, is known as a worldwide classic. Orwell based
this novel on Joseph Stalin s betrayal of the Russian Revolution and was his
attempt at destroying the Soviet myth. It is regarded as one of the most famous
political allegories in the world. It follows the story of a group of animals, who
decide to start a rebellion against the owner of their farm (Mr. Jones), and commit
to run it themselves in a way which is entails that all animals with receive equality
and freedom, and at the same time be happy. However, by the end of the story, the
pigs become their own version of Mr. Jones and begin to exploit the other animals
and take advantage of their dim wittedness. In the end, they become just like human
beings, and change their old maxim four legs good, two legs bad with a new one
four legs good, two legs better. A cruel tyranny was the end result.
One character in Animal Farm which particularly caught my attention was Napoleon,
who was played by Tessa Redman. I believe that she delivered a particularly effective
performance for the following reasons...
1.She stayed in character particularly well throughout the entire performance
Even when Redman was not speaking and was just standing in the dim light, she still
applied the gait, sound effects and facial expressions that she would have used if she
were the main focus of the scene. One example of where she applied
The Theme Of American Pastoral By Philip Roth
Human beings strived for a better life since the beginning. Mankind witnessed a
never ending race for happiness, wealth, power and superiority. Many revolutions
changed the course of history and became watershed events having great impact on
the human life. While some of the ideas lived on, some of the ideas were short lived.
American Dream was one of such ideas which laid the foundation for the making of
United Statesof America. The Statue of Liberty itself symbolizes the idea of the
Great American Dream. The celebrated idea of American Dream had tremendous
impact on the entire nation and influenced each and every individual in some way or
the other. In fact, it became a significant subject in the course of history and played a
quintessential... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pastoral was initially originated by the Greek poet Theocritus and the Latin poet
Virgil, who wrote poems about the shepherds ( pastor is Latin for shepherd ). In
Shostak s book Philip Roth: American Pastoral, The Human Stain, The Plot Against
America, the traditional pastoral is described as: a deliberate conventional poem
expressing an urban poet s nostalgic image of the peace and simplicity of the life of
the shepherds and other rural folk in idealized natural settings (qtd. in. Shostak
34). In American Pastoral, Roth presents the story of Levovs, an American family,
who in search of the American dream, gain wealth and success, but suffers from
heartache and pain due to the adverse situations. In a way, it is similar to the story
of Job in the Holy Bible, in which Job s life moves from one phase to another, from
poverty to riches, and then back to the former. The novel consciously alludes to
Milton s epic poem Paradise Lost, both thematically and formally, with the Jewish
post war acquisition and loss of an American
Biodynamic Farming Vs Bionamic Farming
My third main point is against the use of pesticides is organic and biodynamic
farming. Organic farming is a method of crop and livestock production that involves
much more than choosing not to use pesticides, fertilizers, genetically modified
organisms, antibiotics and growth hormones. Yakowski states, Maintaining the health
of the soil is a key organic principle (16). To continue to have healthy soil farmers
need to avoid the use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). GMOs harm soil
quality, disrupt ecosystems, and decrease annual crop yield potential. Yakowski
states, Animals raised on an organic farm, whether chickens or cattle, must be
provided with humane living conditions, such as access to the outdoors, adequate
space, grazing pastures, and organically produced feed (17). Keeping these living
conditions help the animals to reduce potential illnesses. Synthetic growth regulators,
steroids, antibiotics, and hormones are not able to be used for the animals at any
time. Yakowski states, Biodynamic farming incorporates many of the methods used
in organic farming. It s not just about sustainability, but also focuses highly on
regeneration of the soil (19). Farmers use cover crops and companion planting instead
of chemical controls which is way better for the environment. Biodynamic farming
does not use any chemical preparations. They use things such as manure, fermented
herbs such as chamomile and valerian, or minerals such as silica. The crops you
obtain from
How Did Alfred Hitchcock Turn Into Blockbuster Films
Alfred Hitchcock s journey to international filmmaking stardom started small but
ended with him being considered the best director of the 20th century. Alfred directed
many films throughout his life. His career started in a humble London film studio
and working on small films, working his way up to Hollywood, CA, in massive
Paramount studios and producing blockbuster films. Alfred Hitchcockwas arguably
one of the most experienced and imaginative filmmakers of the 20th century. Alfred
Hitchcock developed his technical experience for filmduring many years of hard
work and determination while working under other directors. Alfred acquired many
of his skills while working as a director s assistant in London. As a director s
assistant, Alfred would do many odd jobs. He would critique many aspects of the
film, or help any department that needed help. He would help costume design,
rewrite a scene, or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alfred used creative tricks in filming to properly portray emotions. Alfred learned
many of his tricks while working under other directors like Michael Balcon and
David O. Selznick. These tricks included camera angles, forced perspective, and
control of sights and sounds. These tricks would give him his signature style and
ability to control the audience s feelings. in a way. Alfred also showed imagination
by creating blockbuster films out of other people s stories or plays, along with his
own. Nearly all of Alfred s early films were adapted from books or plays that his
companies secured the rights to, like The Lodger, or The Mountain Eagle. while
adversely, Alfred was aloud to create stories of his own for later films, such as
Vertigo, or North By Northwest. Alfred s ability to adapt stories or ideas to
masterpiece films showcase his imagination in film. Alfred used creative tricks and
amazing stories to become a great
Current Ratios Acid Test Ratio
Liquidity Current Ratio Acid Test Ratio The five year current ratio average for
Ross was 1.41 with an acid test ratio of 0.47, while TJX had an average of 1.63 for
their current ratio, and 0.66 for their acid test ratio. This shows that TJX has a
greater ability to pay back their debts than Ross does. Even though both companies
have a low acid test ratio, compared to their competitors, it isn t so bad. Other
competing retail stores such as Walmart and Target have an acid test ratio of 0.19

  • 2. Stricter Dress Code Dress codes have always been taken into great consideration, but now they are becoming an immense part of school requirements. For years, some schools have created stricter dress code rules, while others have made more accessible rules. Part of the administration considers shaping a stricter dress code, but others disagree. Yes, students should continue to make smart choices about their clothing, but a stricter dress codewould only result in more problems. We should have our original dress code remain and not make any changes to it because it would restrict students from expressing their feelings, and some dress code rules can be sexist toward girls. To begin with, for people of all ages, fashion is a way that they can easily express

  • 4. The Feminine Mystique By Betty Friedan In the book The Feminine Mystique, Betty Friedan brings attention to what she calls the feminine mystique, or the problem that has no name . Through the use of anecdotal narratives, her own personal experiences as a journalist, editor, mother, and the interviews of many women from different backgrounds in order to unveil the truth about the women of the 1950 s. The problem which sparked the second wave of feminismin the United States is one that focuses on the inequality between men and women and the undervaluing of women in both the social and private spheres. The women of the time gave up pursuing their passions, such as getting an education or careers in science or business in order to fit the image of the stereotypical stay at home mom whose main goal in life is to raise her children while providing a safe and comforting home for her husband. The Feminine Mystique, as she called it, was the idea of widespread unhappiness of women, despite the preconceived notion that women were happiest when they have a family. Throughout her work, she dives into many of the problems associated with the feminine mystique and builds a powerful concept of what would eventually be labeled feminism. Friedan begins by pointing out how during the 1950 s the average age of women when they married was getting younger and younger, and how birthrates among these women were increasing. One would believe that this would lead to an increase of happiness because the general population of men

This is different from just making tea because the goal is to make the liquid for the centrifuge tubes as concentrated as possible. When making tea for enjoyment and consumption, the tea is in a larger amount of water and is usually only steeped for three to five minutes. Tea for enjoyment is not intended to be extremely concentrated (in fact, most people would dilute the tea if it is too strong). In this experiment, potassium carbonate acts as a base. Potassium carbonate would dissociate into potassium ions (K+) and carbonate ions (CO3 2 ). Carbonate ions would undergo acid base reactions with the tannins, which then allows the tannins to be water soluble. However, this makes the tannins far less soluble in the organic layer, allowing it to separate from that layer after centrifuging. Because caffeine has dipoles, and thus is polar, it is likely to dissolve in methylene chloride because it is also polar. This means that methylene chloride and caffeine would be in the same layer after centrifuging, separating from the inorganic layer. Water in the mixture exists in the inorganic layer and is used to isolate the caffeine from the tannins from the tea

Given that Ryanair is a new airline, chances of survival will be slim if they engage in a price war. If all is in favor of Ryanair, they will be able to acquire a sizeable portion of its competitor s market share for that route, as well as acquire new customers from other transport options such as trains and ferries, by offering a faster commute. To compare the price with competitors and consider this opportunity for Ryanair s service between Dublin and London, Ryanair should estimate the cost and the possibility of seats sold by using British Airways revenue and cost in exhibit 4 of the case study. From the exhibit 4, Ryanair can calculate the possibility of seats sold by finding the ratio of customers who do not book the seat of British Airways in advance and compare to its own seats available annually. The British Airways average revenue per passenger equals to IВЈ166.5. Also, British Airways is selling its ticket at the price of IВЈ208, and IВЈ99 for early advance booking. Therefore, only around 38.07% of British Airways customers bought the seat in advance, while the rest, 61.93%, paid for full amount of IВЈ208. The Death Of The Funeral The Death of the Funeral Business Rough Draft In the essay The Death of the Funeral Business , the author Sandy Hingston repeatedly illustrates the different roles that technology plays in constructing modern funeral rituals. Over the past years, technology has become such a big part of our daily lives, that now funeral homes are changing rapidly to fit in with all of the technological advances that have been happening to the world around us. I believe that in The Death of the Funeral Bussiness Hingston works to describe how technology has changed the values society has towards death and decay writing about how technology has changed funerals and societies view them. The Death of the Funeral Business is an article explaining why the traditions of having a funeral have declined over the past years. Throughout the article Hingston explains why technology has been a huge impact on the decline of funeral traditions. Technology has advanced right before our eyes and most of us fail to realize, but now we revolve around technology. When people died years ago, they didn t leave much behind. For example, the only thing that Hingston s mom left behind was a single photograph that she wanted all of her grandchildren to have. Hurdle rates are an internal management tool and can be set independent of WACC. We feel that the diversification of the company does help keep capital costs down which benefit the company. However, the hurdle rate is the driving factor of resource allocation. As more resources are shifted to the PS division, capital costs will begin to increase along side risk. In this paper, I will give examples of Antigone s different individual responsibilities and her philosophies and explain how they conflict with the commitment that she is to have to her community and indirectly, her king. Ultimately, I will argue that Sophocles demonstrated his ideas as to what values the Greek community should hold at the most profound level through Antigone s internal conflicts regarding family, the way of the gods, and doing what is right versus the commitment towards her community. Within the first few hundred lines of Antigone, Sophocles shapes the reader s perception of Antigone and her philosophical beliefs as to right and wrong. When speaking to Ismene about her plan to bury their brother, she states I ll do what s honorable, and then I ll die (Antigone, 750). Antigone s willingness to die for a cause that she feels is honorable and right demonstrates what she values highest. Antigone shows that the conflicting nature between her beliefs and the king s beliefs on how to deal with Polyneikes death will not hold her back from doing what she believes is right. As a member of the Thebes community, Antigone felt a strong sense of responsibility towards the gods and what they expected from their people. Antigone continues to challenge her sister by declaring that Ismene is about to defy laws the gods

By the mid 1950s, the persistent pursuit of their political and economic self interests left the West German cinema in an economically and artistically detrimental state, thus calling for government intervention. This, in turn, resulted in the inauguration of the 1962 Oberhausen Manifesto. Written and signed by twenty six young German filmmakers who rejected the traditional German cinema, it emphasized their belief in the necessity for films to reflect the state of contemporary Germanyrather than to entertain. As a result, they set out to create artistically challenging films that effectively reflected the materialism of postwar Germany, the state of various social classes, as well as the moral disaster that the Nazi legacy left. • 29. Theme Of Foreshadowing In The Great Gatsby Foreshadowing, in literature, is used to indicate a significant event or a series of significant events that occur later on in the piece of writing. Often, the reader does not fully comprehend the importance of indicative words and/or phrases until being made aware of them later. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald foreshadows the inevitable outcome for his main star, Jay Gatsby. The events prior to Gatsby s death all foreshadow the final outcome. Almost every characters are foreshadowed with how they end up. Fitzgerald uses imagery to convey hints and clues to Gatsby and everyone surrounding him and all of their eventual destination. Firstly, Fitzgerald uses a few incidents involving cars to foreshadow the recklessness of Daisy, resulting in the death od Myrtle. In chapter three, Owl eyes is accused of crashing his car in the ditch. When in reality, it was a man who was drunk and disordered. Owl eyes represents a lack of vision within the story. Of course, the recklessness of the drunk man with the car foreshadows Daisy s recklessness with Gatsby s car. To further the foreshadowing of that event, Owl eyes insists that the problem is not the tire, that is lying on the ground, but is that his car is out of gas and requests that it be brought to the gas station: Wonder ff tell me where there s a gas line station? At least a dozen men ... explained to [Owl eyes] that wheel and car were no longer joined by any physical bond (Fitzgerald 56). Not only does Owl eyes have impaired vision, but this also foreshadows when Tom, Nick, and Jordan stop at the Wilson s auto mechanic shop for gas. Before getting in the car, Tom argues with Daisy and Gatsby about the entire love triangle. Tom insists on driving Gatsby s bright car with Daisy. Daisy chooses to go with Gatsby in Toms car. Out of rage, Tom drives fast and recklessly. The recklessness in Gatsby s car foreshadows the later recklessness is the same car, but with Daisy at the wheel. Upon running low on gas, Tom reluctantly stops at the Wilson s mechanic shop. Myrtle, from the window, sees Tom and miss sees Jordan as Tom s wife, Daisy. Myrtle also takes note on the brightly coloured car which foreshadows her misunderstanding of who the car actually belongs to.

For example, the case of Flight 140 that was from Chiang Kai shek International Airport to Nagoya Airport in Nagoya, Japan on 26 April 1994 and Flight 676 on 16 February 1998. However, analysts felt the faulty pilot recruitment policies, lenient flight crew training process, ineffective corporate culture, high cost operational structure, lax maintenance systems and the cost cutting policies of the management which sacrificed safety standards added to its woes. That will influence the performance of the organization. In addition, the serious and strained political relations among mainland China and Taiwan which prohibited the airline to routes in China only compounded its problems from launching
  • 40. Google, The Co Founder Of Google Report: Google 1.Purpose The IT entrepreneur I ve decided to research on is Larry Page, the co founder of Google. This report covers the purpose of Google as a search engine, the technologies that it uses for its searches, how it managed to beat its predecessors and the hardware that it uses, both old and new ones. The reason why I chose Google is because I ve been using it for a number of years now and I thoroughly enjoy the experience of surfing the web with it. 2. Key Information 1.1Introduction The idea of Google developed when its founders wanted to organize an infinite amount of information on the web. It was first called Backrub , and later on adopted the name Googol, after a mathematical terminology. • 41. The Myth Of Apollo And Daphne Jackson DeBord P.2 Artist Statements Eros: For Eros, the god of love, I chose to do his perspective on the myth of Apollo and Daphne. I made him resent Apollo for being a braggart, and had Eros sound like his pride was hurt by Apollo s gloating. He was just retaliating for Apollo s arrogance. For my picture of Eros I decided to make him look like a child. I also made him hold both a torch, which is mentioned in the original story and which I mentioned in my rendition, and a bow with a quiver of arrows slung on his back, which is also referenced in both the original and my telling of the myth. I decided to make the background of Eros a combination of warm colors to represent the fire and passion of love. Nemesis: I decided to do the myth of Narcissus and Echo from Nemesis s point of view for a story of her. I tried to make her sound a little defensive because she has to give bad fortune, which no one likes, and she is considered mean because of this, even though she is only doing her duty and keeping balance and order maintained by controlling fortunes. Nemesis is the goddess of divine retribution and justice and I decided to incorporate this in my artwork by giving her a full body nimbus, the glow depicted around holy figure s head in art, to emphasize her divine aspect. I also gave her a balance and sword to show, like in my story, she is just trying to keep order, but she will be forceful or violent in doing so. Hekate: For Hekate I decided to do the fairly famous

Orwell based this novel on Joseph Stalin s betrayal of the Russian Revolution and was his attempt at destroying the Soviet myth. It is regarded as one of the most famous political allegories in the world. It follows the story of a group of animals, who decide to start a rebellion against the owner of their farm (Mr. Jones), and commit to run it themselves in a way which is entails that all animals with receive equality and freedom, and at the same time be happy. However, by the end of the story, the pigs become their own version of Mr. Jones and begin to exploit the other animals and take advantage of their dim wittedness. In the end, they become just like human beings, and change their old maxim four legs good, two legs bad with a new one four legs good, two legs better. A cruel tyranny was the end result. One character in Animal Farm which particularly caught my attention was Napoleon, who was played by Tessa Redman. I believe that she delivered a particularly effective performance for the following reasons... 1.She stayed in character particularly well throughout the entire performance Even when Redman was not speaking and was just standing in the dim light, she still applied the gait, sound effects and facial expressions that she would have used if she were the main focus of the scene. One example of where she applied

The pastoral was initially originated by the Greek poet Theocritus and the Latin poet Virgil, who wrote poems about the shepherds ( pastor is Latin for shepherd ). In Shostak s book Philip Roth: American Pastoral, The Human Stain, The Plot Against America, the traditional pastoral is described as: a deliberate conventional poem expressing an urban poet s nostalgic image of the peace and simplicity of the life of the shepherds and other rural folk in idealized natural settings (qtd. in. Shostak 34). In American Pastoral, Roth presents the story of Levovs, an American family, who in search of the American dream, gain wealth and success, but suffers from heartache and pain due to the adverse situations. In a way, it is similar to the story of Job in the Holy Bible, in which Job s life moves from one phase to another, from poverty to riches, and then back to the former. The novel consciously alludes to Milton s epic poem Paradise Lost, both thematically and formally, with the Jewish post war acquisition and loss of an American
  • 44. Biodynamic Farming Vs Bionamic Farming My third main point is against the use of pesticides is organic and biodynamic farming. Organic farming is a method of crop and livestock production that involves much more than choosing not to use pesticides, fertilizers, genetically modified organisms, antibiotics and growth hormones. Yakowski states, Maintaining the health of the soil is a key organic principle (16). To continue to have healthy soil farmers need to avoid the use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). GMOs harm soil quality, disrupt ecosystems, and decrease annual crop yield potential. Yakowski states, Animals raised on an organic farm, whether chickens or cattle, must be provided with humane living conditions, such as access to the outdoors, adequate space, grazing pastures, and organically produced feed (17). Keeping these living conditions help the animals to reduce potential illnesses. Synthetic growth regulators, steroids, antibiotics, and hormones are not able to be used for the animals at any time. Yakowski states, Biodynamic farming incorporates many of the methods used in organic farming. It s not just about sustainability, but also focuses highly on regeneration of the soil (19). Farmers use cover crops and companion planting instead of chemical controls which is way better for the environment. Biodynamic farming does not use any chemical preparations. They use things such as manure, fermented herbs such as chamomile and valerian, or minerals such as silica. The crops you obtain from
