He developed the philosophical framework of rationalism, which uses reason rather than experience as the basis for understanding the world. Descartes was the first to provide a framework for the nature sciences and mathematics as they developed. He died in 1650 in Stockholm, Sweden while working as a philosophy teacher for the queen.
