2. REAL NUMBERS
• A real number is any positive or negative number .
• This includes all integers and all rational and irrational numbers.
• R=p/q where q is not equal to 0
3. RATIONAL NUMBERS
• A rational number is any number that can be expressed as the
quotient or fraction p/ q of integers , a numerator p and a non- zero
denominator q . Since q may be equal to 1, every integer is a rational
number.
• p/q , q is not equal to 0
4. IRRATIONAL NUMBER
• The irrational numbers are all the real numbers which are not rational
numbers . That is , irrational numbers cannot be expressed as the
5. COMPLEX NUMBERS
• A complex number is a number that can be expressed in the form of
a+ib , where a and b are real numbers and i is a solution of the
equation i^2= -1 because no real number satisfies this equation , i is
called an imaginary number. a is called the real part and b is called the
imaginary part.
• Eg : 1+3i
6. NATURAL NUMBERS
• The natural numbers are those used for counting and ordering . Begin
the natural numbers with 0 corresponding to non-negative integers
0,1,2,3... Whereas start with 1 , corresponding to positive Integers
1,2,3,...
7. IRRATIONAL NUMBER
• The irrational numbers are all the real numbers which are not rational
numbers .That is , irrational numbers cannot be expressed as the ratio
of two integers.
• Eg : √2
8. WHOLE NUMBERS
• Whole numbers are the basic counting numbers 0,1,2,3,4,5,... And so
on. Whole numbers include natural numbers that begin from 1
onwards . Whole numbers include positive Integers along with 0.
9. INTEGERS
• An integer is a whole number that can be positive ,negative or zero.
• Eg : -5 ,1, 5 ,8,...
10. POSITIVE INTEGERS
• The positive Integers are the numbers 1 ,2 ,3,.. Sometimes called the
counting numbers or natural numbers .
• It is denoted as Z^+ .
11. NEGATIVE INTEGERS
• A negative integer is one of the integers -1 ,-2 ,-3 ,-4,... Obtained by
negating positive integers.
• It is denoted as Z^- .
12. NON – NEGATIVE INTEGERS
• A non – negative integer is an integer that is positive or zero.
It is the union of the natural numbers and the number zero.
• {0, 1,2,3,...}
