A Morgagni hernia is a rare type of congenital diaphragmatic hernia that accounts for 2% of cases. It occurs when there is a failure of fusion of costal and sternal elements of the diaphragm, resulting in herniation through the foramen of Morgagni on the right side. Morgagni hernias are often asymptomatic and discovered incidentally on imaging. While congenital diaphragmatic hernias have an incidence of 1 in 2000-4000 births, Morgagni hernias specifically account for approximately 2% of congenital diaphragmatic hernia cases.
