Question 2: How does your media product represent particular social groups? In this PowerPoint I am going to consider who I have included images of on my work, how I have posed and dressed her and what my mise-en-scene communicates about the social group I have represented. I am also going to point out how my product represents its target audience, what I have done different to other representations from within my magazine genre and if my representation challenges or supports dominant idea about the social group I have represented.
Who I have included images of in my work – how I have posed/dressed them In my media product I have taken pictures of belle, using a variety of different posses, showing her happy and cheerful side. I chose to do some pictures where she has purposely posed for the camera but in other pictures I chose to do natural pictures where she was not ready for the picture to be taken, I thought this would represent a lot about her self and what type of person she is. I chose my front cover picture purposely, because I wanted her to be the main attraction to the magazine because I have posed her with her staring, like she is staring out of the magazine, this adds affect to the magazine and makes the magazine very ‘in your face’. Her pose is very elegant which makes the cover powerful and striking.
What does my mise-en-scene communicate about the social group I have represented? I have used the setting I have put belle in to amplify my characters emotion or her dominant mood which can establish aspects of belle. I have positioned her in this way to show how she is and by this image people will get the impression that she is a very elegant artist. I changed the lighting and effects to my image using Photoshop because I feel that it can have a profound effect on the way my image will be perceived, I aimed most of the intensity of the lighting in the middle of her face and gradually got darker as it went out, which will help the aspect of her face being the main feature of my front cover.
How does my product represent its target audience? My product represented its target audience because my artist is very similar to other artists such as ‘pixie Lott’ or ‘ellie goulding’, which I feel will have a main target audience of young girls ages from 14 – 18, which is who I aimed my magazine at, as belle is new to the industry she will not have a big range of audience. My ideal audience is female aged from 14-18, therefore I styled my artist belle so she could become an icon for girls in that age range and give girls inspiration. My front cover also represents its target audience because my one cover line says “win tickets to the top gigs or festivals this year” I used this cover line, because I felt that this would appeal to my target audience, because my typical audience would enjoy gigs/festivals. The most reprehensive part of my magazine is my choice of photographs throughout my magazine, I feel that they represent herself, her life and how she is.
