- 1. Question1: In what waysdoes your media productuse, developor challengeformsand conventionsofreal mediaproducts? Music Magazine The title of the Magazine: When designing my magazine I researched other magazines to see what appealed to specific target audiences for inspiration on fonts, titles and color schemes, I looked in magazines such as; NME and Q. My inspiration came from a magazine called ‘Alternative’ which is the genre alternative rock; therefore I chose a title which was associated and clearly linked to the Indie genre, developing the conventions of a real media product. My chosen title is ‘Indiscovered’ as it appeals to the Indie genre. As part of the genre was when smaller bands began emerging on local scenes and people took notice, I have highlighted this through the title meaning the artists being discovered. My colour scheme was decided to match my photographs colour. I decided on the main colours; green as it symbolises growth, harmony and freshness which represents my magazine and also the genre, yellow as it is associated with joy and happiness which produces a warming effect, arouses cheerfulness, and white which is associated with light and goodness. Design: The design style of my magazine is balanced. The image is symmetrical as there is a person in the band either side of Shaun, creating a more balanced layout. I tried to follow the Guttenberg design principle as much as possible as my masthead is in the primary optical area, then the cover lines follow the axis of orientation to the strong fallow area, as these are the areas that receive the most attention from the audience. In the weak fallow area, where the magazine receives the least attention, is empty space or nothing that is vital for the audience to see on my front cover. Photography: The props used in my magazine are guitars; this is to highlight my genre of Indie. The photography shows the image of the band suggesting the main focus of my front cover. I looked at magazines such as Q to see whether props were used, and if so which ones and also to see how the images were shot. I choseto have my band image with
- 2. a direct mode of address as this was a frequent convention of Q magazines. This attracts the audience and connects the reader with the artists. Image Manipulation: I used a manipulation on my image to give it a more neutral colour to tie in with my colour scheme. I softened the image with a blue overtoneto make sure the colours didn’t contrast and complimented each other. From analysing photos on magazines like Q and NME I noticed that they follow a set colour scheme depending on their image. For example on Q’s magazine of Florence, fromFlorence and the Machines, the colour scheme follows red, blue and white as the artists costume consists of blue eyeliner, a slightly red lip and hair, and also a white skin tone. The colour scheme of the image and the text complement eachother, making the magazine look professional and sophisticated.
